246 Duckworth St, St. John's, NL A1C 1G8, Canada
All-day breakfast, bagel sandwiches, steak & seafood in cozy digs with kitschy decor & a fireplace.
Best little breakfast place in St. John’s!! Hot chocolate was out of this world good. Large portions, just delicious. Great service and lovely atmosphere.
First time there and First Impressions were awesome! The Cafe is incredibly cozy and clean! Everything well placed and organized! The decor is so awesome, love the lighting! Had their Fish Cakes breakfast and it was well prepared and gorgeous! Hungry going in and full coming out! Well done to the staff there! Definitely a return is in the works! Yum!
BEST POTATOES EVER! such an incredible spot. the decor is out of this world. Food is great, worth the wait if there’s a line out the door. only thing to note is their toutons are deep friend instead of pan friend, but still good.
Came here for a late breakfast. Luckily for us, they serve breakfast all day! There are a lot of great items to choose from this menu with a really great variety of flavors. We kicked off with a couple alcoholic drinks. We got the Perogi breakfast and the featured Manu item with the Toutone, Beans, and fish cakes. Both were really great. This location is not dog friendly because they are fully enclosed. The vibe is nice downstairs but they have additional seating upstairs too.
Amazing food here! Dined here 3 times. First day had the Touton crab cake breakfast with beans and molasses. Very tasty and interesting dish, nice chewy bread texture that goes well with the beans and crab cake. Lobster egg Benedict’s had nice chewy flavourful lobster with a nice creamy hollandaise sauce. You get lots of potatoes with the dishes, generous portion which you can share one dish with. Second day came for the lobster dinner. Tasty steamed lobster served with garlic butter ( lobster was tasty without the butter ). Got one with fries and one with salad. Got the snow crab after too because why not. Tasty meaty crab; Newfoundland snow crab has a distinct sea salt taste to it, nice chewy, tender meat. Third day had fish cake breakfast and crab cake Benedict’s with smoked salmon. Both delicious cakes, crispy and chewy inside and great smoked salmon ( not too salty). Got the seafood chowder too just to try and it was good as well, full of cod, salmon and mussels, and vegetables. Generous portions here at a great price. Last day they were short staffed but did a great job serving everyone. Come early especially on weekends as there was a line up outside as we left. One the only breakfast places that open at 7Am.
Busy place with quick turnover. Breakfast was very delicious. Had the omelette and the eggs Benedict. Sadly the coffee machine was out of order. But overall good experience
Had a great experience at this cozy Hotspot in the downtown. Tried a touton for the first time and really enjoyed it. Got great service and great tasting food. Would recommend it to anyone looking for a local spot which will hit the spot. Will visit again when in the area and recommend it to all my friends who visit. St.John's.
Having seen reviews to this restaurant, I wanted to try the toutons. In my opinion, it was similar to a deep fried dough. It did give a good complimentary texture to the savory bean and crispy bacon. I would rate the presentation 10/10. However, the quality is 8/10. Fruits were fresh and plentiful. The service was great and attentive. I went after the busy lunch service (2pm) and was served no more than 10 minutes of ordering. Would recommend a try!
Salmon bagel to go was pretty good!
Great staff, great service, good taste of music, atmosphere is wonderful and esthetic. (Needs a little dusting, tho)
We went here for brunch a few months ago, we ordered food and while we were waiting for the food to be brought to us we saw a mouse under one of the tables in front of us, when we told the waiter about it he was very normal and said here is downtown And mice are found everywhere. This is while we have gone to a restaurant and want to eat, do you think it is normal to see a mouse in the environment where food is served??!!!
I came in for a late breakfast and was in for a treat. The atmosphere is phenomenal the food is great and very friendly service. The hash browns are some the best I ve ever had and the touton breakfast was a wonderful local treat. Would highly recommend stopping in to enjoy the cozy booths and the delicious food.
Had the crab with breakfast. Sooo good. Coffee good but pricey
This place was amazing.
Fun place, lots going on, food is really good. Hash potatoes were actually good.
Simply delicious fresh ingredients and big portions
Great service. Great food and a super cool eclectic atmosphere.
The waitress was very nice. Coffee is good. Large selection to choose from. The portions were huge. Would recommend this place. Thanks so much I would have taken pictures but I ate everything too quickly.
What a great little restaurant!! Came for lunch. I had the seafood chowder....amazing!! Service was fast too. Hopefully I can visit them again soon!!
Good food. Large menu. Huge portions.
We ate breakfast there each day on our recent vacation visit. Great staff and fun food! Toutons, open face omelets, pancakes, waffle chicken sandwiches, bagels, grilled cheese with bacon and smoked ham and great coffee.
So much choice! The menu is amazing. We ordered and didnt take a picture. So order whatever and it will be delicious
Visited this lovely 3 times during our 3-week adventure in Newfoundland. Crispy fish and chips were awesome. Lobster meal was spectacular Touton was a new experience, and you have to try them! Cant wait to come back to this place! Food : 5/5 |
Everything was great, the entryway felt a little cramped but the waitress was very kind, the food was well cooked and they even accepted the changes I wanted to make to the food! The bathroom was clean and well kept and the decor was super cute!
Mandatory stop for breakfast. Its decoration is incredible. Famous for its copious breakfasts. I recommend the SUNRISE.
Had breakfast here twice during our week in St. Johns, and it was worth it! So many options, and the fact that they can serve most options gluten-free (i.e. on a gluten-free bagel) was great. Unfortunately, they do not have a dedicated deep-fryer, so I wasnt able to get any of the unhealthy stuff that everyone else had, but thats okay...I appreciated the fruit substitution for the hash browns! Dietary restrictions: Their gluten-free bagel sandwiches were delicious!
Such a quirky little place, loved it! Visiting from Ontario this week and I hope to be able to come back here again!
Excellent friendly service with great ambiance. Portions are massive so my wife and I split a veggie omelette with more than enough for both of us.
Went here after getting of the ship to go back home with some work mates , massive portions, and the waitress was fantastic and had good banter
Best breakfast in town
Such wonderful break from cruise ship
Lots of choice for breakfast as well as handheld foods. The portions are big. I got the pancakes with sausage, 2 eggs and hash browns. I was only able to finish half of it but it was all so yummy. The pancake was the size of a dinner plate. Lol. The atmosphere was a bit dim and felt crowded (maybe some ppl like it that way?). Sadly, the service was only alright... it wasnt even that busy but we waited 20 minutes for the server to notice us even after we tried to flag someone down to take our order several times. We were constantly just told will be right with you but the server then walks to other tables that didnt seem to have flagged for attention.
Best sea food chowder I have ever had. My husband had the homemade burger with pasta salad. Very generous portions.
Awesome breakfast!!! Great food and service. Food
Very busy, very large portions, so it s good to split! Food is decent , but not gourmet. Food
Great place to have a brunch
We stopped in for lunch during our week in St Johns. The burgers are big and tasty. Open wide. The fries are also good. Everything arrived quickly and nice and hot. We also got the chicken roaster and fries. Half a chicken that was excellent. Juicy and tasty.
The food was good, and the portion sizes were good value for money EXCEPT the coffee. 2 coffees were priced at $11.50. Absolutely outrageous. Plus the coffee was burnt and weak. Our server seemed like she had a chip on her shoulder. I get having a bad day, but you have to do a better job at checking that at the door. I made one small complaint about the exhorbant amount of butter on my toast, and the young server looked SO OFFENDED. She was rude and in response she replied, Well did you want it dry? It wasnt her response, but rather HOW she responded. So much attitude which is not okay in a server position. Ive always been a huge advocate for bagel cafe. But this was truly a terrible experience.
Parking: Parking on street out front and on side streets Kid-friendliness: Great for kids. Food : 3/5 |
Beautifully eclectic spot to enjoy a meal. Great bagels and full on meals. The breakfast was divine.
I am from the States. Ohio to be exact. And I like to pay Honor where honor is due. We went for breakfast and we had great service. I am disabled and it would have been nice for them to have a wY to get to the second floor othere than steps. And it would be nice for a handicapped toilet. But or servers was above and beyond. Melissa was great nothing got past her she was attentive to every little detail. Kyra was really good on taking our orders as well got everything correct. I would like their Boss to know that they did a great job and should be commended for it. Thank you ladies for great Service. Better than all the rest.
Awesome place to eat great food and great service local favourite I m sure!
Super pretty and beautiful! It has good air conditioning to relax in St-John.
Great food as always. I come here every time Im in NL. Limited GF options but there are some!
Food was great. Generous portions. Service was great. The decor was interesting .it was like a weird aunt who went to Morocco in the 2000s and just fell in love with eclectic colours and items. Food : 4/5
One of the best places to have breakfast and have a fresh lobster meal in summer.
Food was delicious and service was incredible. Portions were large, regret not taking pictures, but all 4 of us were full, leaving breakfast
This place has amazing breakfast options and a great menu all around. I do prefer the breakfast menu compared to their dinner menu. It just seems that breakfast options are executed better - although, the variety is great for both! If you like waffles, breakfast bagels, and coffee, this is the place to go. The coffee is probably some of the best Ive had in the city. The only downside to eating here is the tight quarters. While the aesthetic has vintage vibes with great music, the space is very limited. Getting around tables and walking through the restaurant can be very cramped, and even certain tables have limited space when sitting. Its a split chance: you can get a spacious booth or table with excellent window views onto Duckworth, or you may be sat in a cramped area that proves uncomfortable during your meal. One thing for sure, the breakfast is completely worth it!
I had an extremely disappointing experience at this place. I ordered perogies, and to my surprise, I was served a plate with five tiny ones and a huge pile of fried potatoes, which I dont eat and which were not mentioned as part of the dish on the menu. We were seated at a table in the walkway, directly in front of the air conditioner. We were freezing the entire time. When I asked the waitress to address the issue, she said she wouldnt do anything about the air conditioner but could move us once another table became available. A few minutes later, two tables opened up, but she seated new customers there immediately. When I asked why she didnt move us, she said she thought we were fine by then. Overall, this was one of the worst dining experiences Ive ever had. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
Food was fabulous, get your home fries poutined. There was a small wait for a table but on Sunday morning you have to expect that. Service was a tad slow but servers are friendly and star ambassadors for beautiful St. Johns
Not clean, everything was covered in a greasy film
Stick to your ribs brekkie in iconic surroundings.
Great Breakfast! Extensive breakfast menu, quick service, big cups of coffee. You will enjoy breakfast here... Recommended!
Lobster is awesome! Good value for money.
Amazing local Newfoundland breakfast oriented restaurant. Highly recommended if visiting downtown St. Johns. It has interesting decor, a cozy atmosphere, and huge portions with excellent pricing for a treat meal out. 10/10 toutons! Food : 5/5
A nice busy little spot for a classic breakfast with large portions.
I went here for breakfast 15mins after opening and it was quite a wait from the time I walked in to getting my food even as a solo person who was getting 1 meal. There wasn t many people there that I saw to explain for the long wait either and the booth I was in had very small seats so a tad uncomfortable. But I will say the wait and seats were worth it for their Cape Spear touton. Touton was massive, beans were juicy, fish cake great, eggs and bacon perfect! The portion size was massive definitely worth it for that price.
Love the food...always amazing!!
Quirky little gem downtown. And the food! Oh my goodness it was so good. Portion sizes were great, the staff were really friendly. It was busy, and there might be a bit of a wait, but the line moves pretty quick.
Big breakfast portions best as brunch. Food was delicious.
I felt that the place is overrated. The food is just okay.
What an amazing experience- do not miss this if in town it s a must do and then go back again - it s way to tasty to o my do once
It may be the place to go for breakfast but definitely not dinner. I will admit the lobster looked good but we didn t have it.Four of us went for dinner, beer batter fish, didn t seem fresh, the burger was just okay, the chicken wings just okay, the cod tongue was pretty good and the mussels were terrible, zero flavor. Overall did not enjoy it.
Ate here every morning while I stayed in st. Johns. Food was delicious and the coffee was fantastic and much appreciated staff were welcoming and helpful
Best Breakfast in St.Johns
Great spot for an anytime breakfast, large portions for the $$
Great breakfast
Great personality and great food
It is ok we wanted to try a touton .we did! Service was pretty mediocre and the other food was ok just ok for the price
Incredibly cute, wonderful service with delicious food. I was shocked there wasnt a huge line.
Had a great experience. Staff is very nice and the food is delicious.
Good food and good service, but some of the prices of some things is ridiculous. Especially the brewed coffee, $6. $6 for a cup of coffee is a bit excessive especially since it tasted like cheat no name brand coffee from Walmart.
Touton and NL steak with egg, baked beans and molasses soooooooo yummmms!!!! 5* deelish!! Food : 5/5
Super tasty breakfast. Excellent service.
Fantastic , order the Yorkshire Benedict !!
Portions are huge, but food very good
Eclectic decor with warm service and excellent food. We had smoked salmon Benedict and a single touton with molasses. Everything was excellent. Our server Nashira was lovely. Gave lots of recommendations, was efficient and very friendly. Would 100% come back . . . Possibly for breakfast tomorrow
Touton was wonderful but expensive
It s a very unique place with an interesting interior design and diverse menu. You will most certainly find something that you like there.
People rave about this place. The servers were excellent and very friendly. The food was good- hot and tasty. The coffee was $5.50 for a cup. Regular perk coffee. Ouch. Thats more expensive than the green coffee chain. Its a busy place and feels cramped for my liking. Food
Very nice breakfasts
Spectacular. Highly recommended place for a good breakfast. Attention 10, flavor 10 summarizing everything 10
The place is cool, and the service is very good. The quality of food was really good and they gave the kids some fruit as well
Fantastic food ! been there twice in the last 3 weeks
Came here because the menu seemed gluten friendly, however there werent as many options as we had thought. My friend is gluten intolerant and while the server was proactive in figuring out what they could do to accommodate, she failed to mention that swapping the side of hashbrowns (not gluten free) to fruit (gluten free) would be a $6 upcharge. She ended up paying $24 for a bagel and a bowl of fruit, which unfortunately wasnt completely ripe so she could only eat the melon. To top it off the drip coffee was $6 and we unfortunately werent topped up, so it DID end up being a costly meal for such a mediocre experience. My burger was also fairly dry, but I chalked that up to this being a bagel place primarily. Would definitely skip visiting here next time.
In St. John s? Then you need to try a TOUTON! Not just any touton, but one piled high with baked beans, poached eggs and crab cakes, with molasses on the side. The quirky decor is a treat, so are the lovely staff who come by to top off your coffee and chat.
Big helping ! Delicious !
Cozy little place, great decor, awesome food (I had the perogies). And our hostess, gorgeous!
A lovely restaurant in downtown St. Johns thats close to the waterfront and many cool shops. A great option to start your day and then explore the city. But if youre up for a hike, youd also be able to hit up Signal Hill and/or Qidi Vidi. The menu is highly diverse and offers classic options with lots of Newfoundland flare, the toutons and crab cakes specifically were to die for. Definitely recommend if youre looking to grab a bite with unique local options. The servers were very accommodating and knowledgeable regarding food allergies and dietary restrictions. They also had a very good lobster dinner for 2 deal that would be amazing for a date night. 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking for a delicious and filling meal!
Great food. Great staff. Opened right on time. Amazing food. Worth it.
Best breakfast ever! Beautifully decorated and a friendly atmosphere adds to the whole experience. Food
Very quiet when we were seated at 5pm. Coffee was delivered luke warm. Server mixed up or forgot items ordered entirely three times. Server appeared inebriated. We tried to give benefit of doubt. We went elsewhere.
We were visiting St John s and were told by a few people to check out the Bagel cafe. It was by far one of the worst experiences I have had at a restaurant. When we arrived at 5pm, it appeared very quiet in the restaurant. We were seated without menus and it took a while for her to come by with them and ask for our drink orders. When coffees arrived, the server almost spilled them on us and they arrived barely warm. We gave her the benefit of the doubt but when our meals arrived, only 1/3 were correct. She seemed extremely confused and was slurring her words during every interaction. She brought us the incorrect order 3 times and we ended up leaving and eating elsewhere. The server appeared very intoxicated and irritated when we would politely tell her our orders were wrong. We did inform another staff member about the wrong orders and the appearance of intoxication with no solutions. A manager or owner was no where in sight. Very disappointing experience.
Exceeded expectations. Rich menu choice, tasty food, and great service, e.g. offered to add water to tea without me asking.
You want to visit this place for breakfast. A gem in St. Johns. Great food, especially their omlettes but the most inviting was their warmth. Shout out to Tina but every staff member made you feel welcome. A must stop when in that city.
Great first meal of our trip! Jess attended our table and was so kind to my mom, brother and me. We will be back.
The Bagel Cafe offers an exceptional Harbour Main meal featuring crispy, fresh cod, smoked salmon, egg, and hollandaise sauce. The cod is perfectly cooked, providing a rich, savory flavor that pairs beautifully with the creamy hollandaise. The egg adds a satisfying texture, making each bite a harmonious blend of taste and comfort. This dish is a must-try for seafood lovers seeking a unique and delicious breakfast experience.
Busy and bustling. Great food, generous portions and quick. Would definitely return. Food
Ordered the sautéed shrimp and scallops dinner. Extremely disappointed with the amount of seafood for the price. Served 3 shrimp and 4 small scallops. For this I paid $ 32.99. Also, someone needs to show the cook how to cook veggies el dente, not mostly raw. I regret not saying anything at the time, but I felt it was best to keep quiet about it. I felt I would have said more than what would be considered polite.
We stopped here on an early morning after we arrived in st Johns. The reviews seemed promising but the food was just ok. Nothing bad but nothing spectacular either However the portions were massive. Easily could have shared a breakfast with my husband instead of each getting one. The pricing was a little more expensive than I thought it would be. Our server was friendly and the owner even came and spoke with us. Wheelchair accessibility: Not wheelchair accessible. The bathrooms are up a flight of stairs and the restaurant is very cramped with lots of decorations.
First trip to St Johns and was told this was a very good place to eat. I was torn between breakfast & supper food. Decided on Belgian waffle w/ mixed berries, bacon & whip creme on side. It did not disappoint!
The Missus and I had lunch and dinner at the Bagel Cafe during our St. John s visit. Lunch was hectic but we managed to be seated relatively quickly. Tables are a bit cramped and hallways a bit tight. The lighting was also a bit dark. However, maybe that was the ambiance being strived for. The food was above average and prices in line with other local eateries in the area. Initially my breakfast came with missing eggs but was delivered by the server on a separate plate. The Missus enjoyed her turkey bagel sandwich and pasta salad. Despite the name Bagel Cafe, there are many other options on the menu and is worth a visit.
Cozy little place. Had breakfast here, it was delicious and plentiful. I highly recommend going here.
I love this place. Its been a favorite for years. Had a very recent visit... Service was great. The portions were huge. Coffee was a little weak. Just had an extra cup. All good. Had the stuffed blueberry and strawberry french toast special, camw with bacon and hashbrowns definitely could have fed 2 people. Everything was delicious, especially the giant mimosa!! My friend had a Ceasar that was very good as well.
It was our first time here. Our daughter and son in law took us. Its small but very well laid out. The decor is unique, and we loved it. The servers were very pleasant, and the food was amazing. The portions were huge, and prices were good. Will definitely go back again.
This was our first time here. Our daughter and her fiancé took us. What an absolutely gorgeous place. A wonderful, extensive menu and such sweet staff! I HIGHLY recommend going. You will not be disappointed. Oh! And its not just bagels!!
Went there at lunch and they brought water to the table I said I was ready to order the lunch and instead of taking the order I was told there were other people who ordering ahead of us? Then we were waiting and nothing so we left and went to another establishment. Wont be going back there again.
Huge menu, very well prepared. Ambience second to none. I ve been here a few times over the years (I d come more often if I lived nearby) and it s been consistently great. Absolutely unique.
Hearty breakfasts are what the serve here. We couldnt finish our plates, though we tried. Staff is courteous and efficient. We we seated quickly and our orders arrived in no time. Great experience and nice ambiance as well.
Delicious all day breakfast served in a quaint little spot with charming decor and vibe. Lobster claw Caesar was perfect and the eggs Benedict topped with fresh salmon on crab cakes was too notch. Food
We were told about this little Jem and so happy we went. Its so amazing inside to just look around at the awesome ambiance its so hard to explain but we highly recommend you see for yourself. The food was amazing and not your run at the mill bacon and eggs. Thank you Bagel Cafe. Food
Fantastic food, decor and experience. Waitress was wonderful as well :)
During our trip to St. John s we went to this restaurant 3 times. Everything we had was delicious and big portions. Friendly staff, especially Tina. Very nice eclectic style. Would recommend, especially for Brunch.
It is a very grateful place to have breakfast. With dishes that are very typical of the place.
My favorite place to eat in St. Johns! Breakfast is amazing, portion sizes are huge, and so many options!!
Great food and service, nice cosy atmosphere
Expected it to have really good bagels based on the fact that it s called the bagel cafe but I was served a Dempsters bagel with barely any cream cheese and flavourless salmon that was not very fresh.. being called the bagel Café they should at least have in-house made bagels and fresh salmon, Ended up paying 21$ for 2 bagels that I can get for 6$ at Walmart . Atmosphere was also very cluttered and slightly dirty.
Excellent food, great service, its one of my favorite places to eat!
I liked the food potions here for the prices. The service was on point they were very understanding and patient with my order. The atmosphere was not of my personal preference as it is a little dark and the walkways are pretty narrow. But everything else was great! (Breakfast waffles were amazing!)
This was a cute place to drop by and have dinner. The table wasnt very clean, and the booth was quite uncomfortable. Service was ok, but not very friendly. Food
Super great spot solid menu big portions
This was our 3rd time here, and everytime their food always tasted amazing. I love the hot chocolate drink too.
The perfect place to sit enjoying heaped plates of food and huge mugs of steaming tea and coffee while the wind howls outside and the rain/snow lashes against the window. Dietary restrictions: Dont visit if youre counting calories!
Awesome atmosphere, service, and food.
The Canadian Breakfast was HUGE, the stack of bacon, I couldnt eat all of it, perfectly fried eggs, real ham, one huge sausage, homemade bread, and a load of Hashbrowns. Id give it an 11 out of 10. My wife had the homemade fish cake, Touton, baked beans, and bacon. She also couldnt finish it. Amazing atmosphere and lots of stuff on the walls to look at.
Service was Great & Fast Food was Delicious Food
I took my partner, daughter and granddaughter to Bagel Cafe for New Years eve supper. The price for a new years eve menu was phenomenal. The choices were exceptional and the food was fresh and delicious. The atmosphere was cozy and it was quiet enough we could actually talk during dinner. Many restaurants are too loud. It was very festive and a wonderful warm atmosphere. The service was excellent. We had a really lovely evening and our meal at Bagel Cafe was the start of a perfect new years eve. Kudos to the Chef and staff. Murphy/ Nippard family
Cozy and cute place, food were ok but the hot choco is too sweet to my liking. Some server needs to be trained for good customer service - does not smile, not welcoming and sarcastic.
Portions are big make sure you go there very hungry to get through the breakfast
Delicious, hearty home cooked comfort food in a delightful cozy cafe. Well be raving about this place every visit back to the beautiful Newfoundland. First meal was touton with battered cod, smoked salmon smothered in a delectable hollandaise sauce. Second meal was classic over easy eggs, home fries, mountain on bacon and sausage, bologna and absolutely amazingly delicious fishcakes. Stuffed to the brim with happiness and wicked food!
Excellent
No service whatsoever. We left after 20 minutes having never been served.
We visited the Bagel Cafe a couple of times during our stay in St. Johns. The lineups on the weekend are a little intense as the place is rather small and very cluttered with curios that its hard to get around. On our first time we ordered the bfast touton and the potato bake. The touton was excellent, a lovely chewy and soft disk of golden fried bread with fun toppings, but the bake was too dry. A pile of hashbrowns with raw spinach, mushrooms and bacon with some pre-shredded cheese on top didnt have any sauce or meltage to cut thru the dry components. Also having to pay an extra $2 for a fried egg on top of this $18 pile is chintzy. Ive never had a this kind of dish without eggs on top. The coffee was absolutely excellent however, and came in enormous cups. Our server was super helpful and confident. The second time we ordered a different kind of touton (still excellent) and a bagel breakfast sandwich with sausage, which was really tasty. The bagel was very chewy and soft. A pity to find out that the Bagel Cafe does not make its own bagels lol. The restaurant is cluttered as mentioned, but its all rather pleasing and chaotic and adds to your dining experience as theres plenty to see while you sip your coffee. Just a 10 min walk from Water Street.
My girlfriend and I were in St. Johns Newfoundland on a quick vacation and this was the only restaurant we went to more than once! We had breakfast here twice in 4-5 days. The first time here I had to try the toutan breakfast with beans, bacon, eggs and a side of molasses. The portion was decent and it was delicious! The second time was on our final day in St. Johns where I definitely had to try one of their bagels. Why name yourself the bagel cafe if your bagels arent the star of the show?! I ordered a simple bagel breakfast sandwich with sausage egg and a sesame bagel and it was amazing! The bagel was soft and chewy and everything you would expect a bagel to be like. I would definitely have more than one of those next time Im in town. The other thing I wanted to mention is how impressive the size of the mugs they use for their coffee are. Im a huge coffee drinker and when the waitress came by with our coffees I was visibly impressed at how much coffee you get. Great job bagel cafe!! Both times the service was top notch. We were lucky with chatty and friendly service staff which made us want to come back a second time! Watch out for lineups over the weekend but if you happen to be here during the week the lineups are non-existent and its a quick wait before you get a table. If we find ourselves in St. Johns again. I will definitely seek out the bagel cafe if not for another generous cup of coffee and one of their amazing bagel sandwiches!
We ate there twice in the last two weeks and the food is absolutely amazing! The tables are a little cramped but the service and atmosphere is outstanding. The portions are huge so consider sharing a breakfast. We would highly recommend this place!
amazing breakfast but also was saved by a wonderful server from an angry wasp
Great lobster dinner! Lovely, sweet waitress and a great little booth at the front!
Very bad coffe. Forget about flat white or whatever you want to drink The food is like you eat a heavy box of nails Food
This is the best place for breakfast in St.John! The staff the room the music and the food!!! The only place all week that I went to that had turkey bacon! I would recommmend and I would come back for sure on my next trip! Service was exceptional.
Great food! Came out hot and had huge portions! Service was friendly.
I guess this is like a qwerky hidden gem. The foods really nice, and the staff are very friendly and professional. Its got an alternative look inside. Unique for St Johns. Definitely recommend for food or drinks at any time of day. You may need to make a reservation later in the afternoon.
Awesome food excellent service
Hadn t been to the bagel cafe in years. Now gluten free + many other allergies. Servers were able to help me navigate the menu for what I could safely eat. Service was excellent, food was amazing & the restaurant still has that rustic charm Dietary restrictions: Knowledgeable about dietary restrictions for allergies and careful wit cross contamination Parking: Free street parking on weekends. Easy to find if you get there early in the day. Can t speak to mid morning and onwards.
Our experience lived up to the hype! Great food, friendly service and cozy, comfortable atmosphere.
Long waiting for seating, ordering, and food.
Food was good. But staff was as cold as the air in the place. Freezing.
Went to this place twice for breakfast during our stay in St Johns, and have nothing but good things to say about these guys. Quirky place with lots of dust-gathering trinkets, dark corners and tight seating, heaps of atmosphere! Had the best seafood chowder of my entire stay here, and the breakfasts were delicious, generous and fairly priced. Fast, friendly service as well. Who could ask for anything more?
Food came about 20 minutes after we sat down, which was reasonable. My sister had the hot turkey sandwich and I had the burger with cheese, bacon and mushrooms and fries. I asked for gravy and dressing as well. My sister really liked hers but it was too much for her to finish. They dont put gravy on the fries so youll need to add a side of gravy if you want it. They make their own burger patties but there didnt seem to be any seasoning in it and it was dry but the other toppings made it pretty tasty. I asked for ketchup but had to go hunt it down. I love fries, dressing and gravy so I really enjoyed that but if it matters to anyone, they dont make their own fries. The service wasnt good for the most part. Too bad the hostess wasnt our server because she was really sweet and friendly. She seated us, brought our food, cleaned our table and brought the machine for us to pay the bill. The server only took our order. She didnt come by to check how the food was or offer to refill our empty drinks. Pop is $4.75 here and the glass likely wouldnt hold a full can! I only left a 10% tip and explained why to the hostess. She said it was okay and apologized. Id go back again but hope for a different server.
Lovely little place. Huge portions and great staff!
Unconventional shop with good food and very nice service!
I had the sirloin steak special with crab legs for two with bottle of wine with a colleague! Delicious, steak well done crab legs perfect, and the dessert exceptional! We ve been there 4 times and never disappointed! Excellent service by Nicole! Highly recommend:)
Such a cute place to have brunch, the food was really good, the waitresses very nice also :)
Good food but a bit crowded for 4 persons We got a really small table that was most likely for 2 persons. Over price coffee at 5$/cup.
Captures the true essence of being downtown St. Johns. Never know who youll run into there as well!
What a unique cafe. They make bagels and serve up a number of menu choices. We were there twice once for lunch and once for dinner. Highly recommend. Parking: Parking on Duckworth St, may have to walk a bit but worth it.
Cute spot for brunch although it can get pretty busy on weekends.
Great food, great staff, and they have managed to utilize all of their dining space well, which is impressive given that its such a small space. Seems expensive at first, until you see the portions. They are huge. I might even recommend that they lower the price a bit and go with smaller portions given that I dont think a lot of people are finishing their plates.
Went in for breakfast, as a recommendation from the Duckworth Inn. Great portions and delicious food, even extra fruit for the hike after breakfast! The atmosphere was very cozy and the staff were extremely friendly!
Highly recommend this place. They serve great chowder and lobster!
Ive returned to bagel Cafe after a long time. I used to have a three-star review of this restaurant. However, Ive come back to change it to the five star youre seeing here. Our service at this restaurant was amazing. We were well taken care of. It was the perfect balance of being left alone and being attended to. The atmosphere here is so cozy and warm. From all the unique and tacky and quirky decorations here, there is always something cool and fun to marvel at. The food has improved a lot since Ive come last. Both times I got a bagel breakfast sandwich with sausage, egg, and cheese. The sandwich I had long ago was painfully bland and boring. However, this sandwich I had today was perfect. The sausage had so much flavour, it felt like it was dancing on my tongue. This is a side note but I believe this to be really important and awesome to see from a loved local restaurant. I saw that they heard there was a hungry person outside the restaurant who didnt have enough money to pay for breakfast. But without skipping a beat, the staff here were eager and happy to make the man a sandwich and coffee. Its just so heartwarming and awesome to see the bagel cafe cares.
A great place for breakfast or lunch with friendly staff
The bagels are super good, especially the sweet cream cheese ones. Each table is intimate with stained glass windows and a small bench. Great place for a quick lunch.
Awesome breakfast spot. Unique decor and atmosphere. Food portions are huge and very tasty.
Delicious food, HUGE portions, excellent service, in a uniquely decorated restaurant. If youre hungry for breakfast, this is the place.

Place in Sant Johns that should not be missed, amazing and very delicious breakfasts, if I had found it before I would have gone every day, they have everything, 100% recommended and very good service, atmosphere and price.
Awesome serving sizes for a great price! Totally worth it to check this place out for breakfast, the atmosphere is super unique and the menu has so much to choose from, I will be going back for sure!
THE place for all day breakfast. The toutons are awesome, everything is awesome. No better place to spend a rainy sunday morning, or any other time come to that!
Good food
Fun little family spot. It would need more light inside and more fruits on plates!
A MUST visit in St. John s. Possibly the cosiest restaurant I ve ever attended. Uniqued menu & good coffee.
Im on the hunt for the citys best hot chocolate. Im a huge orange chocolate lover so I was excited to try their orange chocolate hot chocolate. I got a regular hot chocolate for my kid, but I thought there was a mistake and that I was given both regular hot chocolates. Until I got to the bottom of mine and the chunk of orange chocolate had melted. So the bottom was delicious but it would have been great if the whole thing tasted the same. I will try it again as it was a super busy day and maybe it just didnt go as planned. Great place - Ive always loved how its decorated! Service is always great!
Best place in St. JOHNS for breakfast.
The atmosphere is whimsical, it feels like youre in a fairytale or something and I love it. Food is good portions are very big
Just ordered the grilled cheese benedict and it was awesome. Proper hollandaise sauce and not too skimpy with it too. Big portions also for the price. Really recommend if you fancy good breakfast food.
The atmosphere and service were 10/10 ! Chowder was very good and other dishes were good. Will recommend and be back for sure.
