Traditional Chinese Food Cantonese Style. Try our famous General Chicken!
Rice was disgusting burnt, egg rolls, chicken balls over cooked dry. Nasty taste. Waste of money. Place looks dirty, chairs in the entryway looks greasy. I called and he said no food was not burnt. It tasted like it was cooked in a rust Wok. Then he calls me back trying to convince me the good was great 🙃 I said have you read the reviews, cause I wish I did.
Food was delicious. Ready on time ! Lee was very friendly. My first time eating here and he introduced him self, asked my name, we got to chatting while he wrote up the receipt. I will be eating here again.
I wanted this place to be good, but I think it’s a bit past its time. The man that I am assuming owns the restaurant was very sweet but the food was not very good. The veggies looked a bit old and the beef and broccoli was more old broccoli than any beef. Reasonably priced but I am honestly worried about the after effects
The chicken fried rice and Singapore noodles were burnt to the point where the taste was terrible. I never usually complain but I paid a lot of money. When I called them, the lady was very rude. She said $60 was not much money. I offered to take it back and get a replacement but she said that if there was more than a 1/4 gone out of it they can’t use it. Use it how?? Give it to another customer? They are going to sell burnt food that was handled by someone else.
Go-to Chinese food place! General chicken is their best!
We ordered dinner for five and we loved it.
I found the dishes to be somewhat disappointing. The most notable issue was the excessive oiliness of the food, which detracted from the overall flavor and enjoyment. Additionally, the beef in the noodles, which should have been the star protein of the dish, was scarcely present, overshadowed by an overwhelming amount of carbohydrates. This imbalance in the dish's composition was quite unsatisfactory. Furthermore, the service left much to be desired. It lacked the professionalism one would expect from an establishment of this nature. The staff seemed untrained in the finer points of hospitality, which unfortunately impacted the dining experience. In conclusion, while the eatery has the potential to be a delightful culinary stop, there are areas that require significant improvement, particularly in terms of food balance and service quality.
I absolutely love this place, all because of Mr. Lee. He will remember you for a long time and will always give you a warm service! Everytime I go there, he will check up on me and ask me how I'm doing in life. He is almost like a family to me, so my review maybe a bit biased. The food is cheap and is pretty worth it compared to the price, but he makes it up with his enthusiasm and kindkess. I'd go back again and again just to see his smiling face! I think this place needs more recognition that it gets!
Always my choice for good food, service.
Worst Chinese restaurant I have ever been to.The food tasted too salty and the portion was way little for what we have spent. If I could I would have given a zero star.
Such a lovely and full of life older gentleman. Amazing food and absolutely delightful service. Quite honestly I felt like eating at my grandparents. Thats Asian hospitality for you! Thank you thank you thank you. God bless the owner uncle and God bless hong kong. :)
Where do I start ordered dinner for three A and fried rice noodles Singapore-style ohhhh my NEVER again, the egg rolls were greese yet dry like cardboard and the filling was almost neon green. The chicken balls were burnt dry and greesey all the same time the batter tasted like it was a supposed to be fish batter the chicken inside was soggy leather. The beef with mixed vegetables was all onion and maybe five broccoli tops and three peices of shredded carrots . Switched out the chow main for soo guy that was burnt dry and greesey, and the rice dont even be talking the only flavor it had was burnt. The fried rice noodles Singapore-style was so rubbery chicken was dry and not spicy at all and that was neon green to. Sweet and sauce was runny the gravy was salty. EVERYTHING TASTES LIKE IT WAS COOKED ON A COAL BBQ that the fluid never burnt off. Even the fortune cookie was stale.
Super delicious food!! It is very fresh and flavourful. The inside was very neat and clean. Super friendly owners! We will definitely be back! :)
Food is great! Such a sweet man.
The owners are really sweet! Food is amazing. You always get the place to yourselves since they arent usually busy.
Interesting dishes,
The absolute best Chinese food, in my opinion in the city!
Good traditional chinese food with great value for the money. I was served by a very polite gentleman and will definitely come back. An excellent choice!
Real chineese fresh food
Call for delivery, ask where its going, said no problem. Ask how many ppl and then ask if paying cash, said no. Said cant help you, good bye. Not many has cash on them anymore, first time calling this place, give it a try, diff wont be for sure now. Good bye.
Its a good place to chinese! The quantity is great.
Terrible food! The rice had a burn flavour. The chicken balls were over cook, General Tao Chicken overcooked, wontons overcooked. Broccoli and Beef ( broccoli was soggy, egg roll was overcooked. No cherry sauce for wontons. I will never order from them again.
I have been here many times and the food has yet to disappoint..
The worse food I ever ate the meat was so sour I was ready to trow up at the table. The chicken balls was hard like a rock. Cooked many times I think and the rice taste and looked like dirt. I told the waitress the meat was sour and I could not eat it. Her response you owe me 14.95. Not even a discount and I only ate about two spoonfuls. Please for the sake of your health do not eat there
The lady was the best. Personable, funny very easy to talk to. Food was decent but not great. Good price, mediocre meal but best service
Like a lot of other people note, some of the food (chicken balls, eggroll, wontons) was overdone and borderline burnt. The rice tasted a bit burnt and the noodles, most oddly, tasted vaguely like propane. The lady working there was quite nice, but Id rather have bad service and edible food than vice versa.
Did not enjoy the food at all. Soo Guy was too hard to consume Chicken rice was very gross And the chicken in the chicken balls was like leather. Chow mein was a bowl of onions and celery. Way overpriced The gravy was good. Pop was cold.. First AND LAST time ordering from here
I always enjoy Lees cooking
Always delicious!! The sweetest owners and the food is always great!! It s our regular spot for Chinese food.
Prepared fresh. A staple restaurant for Chinese take out in St. Johns.
Food was burnt
We ordered chicken fried rice and tofu fried rice. There was just plain rice no veggies no protein nothing. It was so much money for nothing.
The general Tao chicken is incredible! I also love Mr. Lee s lemon chicken and Singapore noodles.
Excellent food.
Dropped in and palced a simple order beef broccoli and rise and the rise had mold in it and every thing was burnt
Rice burnt, egg rolls over cooked and greasy, chicken balls taste of fish, spear ribs honey garlic dry and taste less, mix veggies and broccoli and chicken was the only items thats was good. Rest thrown out.
Only one person working in the restaurant which is the man in charge , he said he doesn t need anyone else he can do it all himself . Service was exceptional but there was a bit of a wait time , when we got the food home the rice was burnt up couldn t eat as well as the egg roll , the rest was amazing food overall I think the place would do well with more workers . Probably won t eat there again
Great hospitality and good food
Nice food and great hospitality
Love the food and service great good
Nice food and very friendly staff
Everything was freezer burned and overcooked. Chicken balls were a gross gray color. Threw it away.
Went there on a date before, very nice man serving but, the food was basically inedible.. some people say it s good, but me and my date didn t think so
The general chicken is delicious
Best hot and sour soup in town.
The best
The best Chinese food I have had so far
Very friendly owner amd delicious food. Thank you for the experience!
Best Chinese food myself and my wife have had in the city!!! .... Soooo good, definitely recommend!!
Not bad for the price
Found this place on my last trip to St Johns. By far the best Chinese Takeaway Ive had in years. Fast and friendly service. Absolutely recommend.
My favorite Chinese Food. So flavorful. . As far as the actual Chinese Food goes, its as authentic as it gets. Love this place and the sweet Couple that own and make this place the best in town.
Great Chinese food. Great service and very friendly staff.
Lee is so nice I love that guy. Best tasting Chinese food with the most entertaining conversations as well
No idea why this place is only 4.2 stars. Everything is fresh and yummy. Perfect.
Tasty food. Loved it.
Best general chicken.
good food
Reliably good Chinese food!
Loved it. Food is delicious and staff is good..worth to go
Had an awesome meal from here. The man who served us, Lee, was really friendly and chatted with us while we waited for our food. The chicken balls impressed me particularly, as I do not regularly like them that much as I find them too crunchy. These had a nice crisp outside and a perfectly soft inside and the sauce they use is a lot more tasty than the regular cherry sauce most places use. Everything else was great as well and very reasonable for the price. The dinner for two is larger portions than I thought it would be for an awesome price! Highly recommend.
I loved the food everything was made to perfection ! Service was just as great
The best General Chicken that I have had in St. Johns!
Great food and wonderful service!
Just awesome!
Excellent food..he prepares freah so you have a wait time. Does alot of take out
This place isn t as good as what it used to be, but still fair at best
Well made food, tasty and not at all oily/greasy.
The best Chinese food in the city!!!
Our goto place for Chinese food. Nice folks run the place, they have great food they prepare freshly to order, and the price is right.
After ordering by phone and arriving on time, had to wait for another 45 minutes for pick-up. Guy working there did nothing except laugh... Food was greasy, expensive for amount, and had little flavour.
The rice tasted like cigarette ash. The chicken balls and egg rolls were either burnt or or cooked in grease that hadnt been changed in months, i couldnt tell which. And the sweet n sour sauce looked like burnt transmission fluid and didnt taste much better. The worst food i have ever attempted to swallow. I had to throw it in the garbage and warm up some left over goulash from yesterdays supper. Absolute waste of money!!
I went there based on the high ratings but Im sorry to say the food was so gross I couldnt eat it. The owner was really friendly though. Maybe the ownership changed? I cannot understand all the good reviews.
Best Chinese food in town! The cook is such a sweet man.
Tasty food prepared fresh.
The owners are warm, welcoming, and friendly. The food is always prepared fresh when you order and is absolutely delicious.
Wouldn t eat Chinese food from anywhere else in the city. Always perfect.
Owners are so nice and so funny, they get me every time. The food is great, not much of a dine in experience though.
Was there today. The owner was friendly. He actually seemed surprised we wanted to to be seated in his restaurant. He said he dont usually see customers in the day time. So he turned on the heat and unlocked the door so we could go in. It actually looked clean inside. He walked us to the table. When he left to get our drinks he locked the door again. Locking us in. When he came back with our drinks we saw how long and dirty his finger nails were. My mom said it looked like he was digging worms. LoL . We still decided to give it a try so we ordered. It was so gross. Everything tasted burnt. NO ONE ATE THEIR MEAL. WASTED 40. Sorry we wont be back anytime soon. So dissapointed..
Had a dozen of my buddies in here for my bachelor party supper. Best feed of Chinese Ive ever had. The general chicken was my favourite.
I had the fried egg noodles Singapore Style and my wife had platter number 10. The noodles had burnt taste, and the fried rice had a really strange taste to them, couldnt really say what the taste was, just strange. The won-ton soup was the best Ive had in a long time, just a little too salty. Service was excellent! Very friendly and quick.
Very unprofessional. Was told it would be a half hour wait, showed up about 35 minutes later only to wait another 45 minutes. After that, he managed to charge me twice for my order, plus when we got home the food was either wrong or undercooked. Went back for a refund with the uneaten food and he refused to refund my money even though I proved he charged me twice and brought back the food. All he could say is come back tomorrow and maybe I can get my refund. 10/10 would not recommend
Great prices, good food, and a very friendly staff.
Some of the best Chinese food in town. Owners are really nice hard working people. Try the Phoenix Chicken its sooooo good
I always love the food :) won ton soup is by far my fave in the city
The Wonton soup is perfect.
best take out in all of St. Johns!
Staff was very friendly and price was reasonable. Egg rolls were a bit overcooked but tasted ok. Chop suey was good but some pieces burnt/black Chow mein was good Lemon chicken really wasnt acceptable, the chicken was mostly just small overcooked pieces of batter, not appealing at all. The lemon sauce was in a separate container and more like water but did taste good.
Favourite neighbourhood Chinese place. The general chicken and sweet and sour chicken balls are the best in the city.
Have gone to a few places and have our regular haunt but gave this a try as a few friends recommended it. It was Awesome. Rice delish, chicken balls crispy and homemade, veggies fresh, Singapore noodles could have been spicier(will ask for extra hot next time) but super tasty! Is our new go to!
Ive had Chinese cuisine from a few places in st Johns and this is the best one! Everything was fantastic. The lady upon pick up was great to talk with. She inquired about why we moved here and made us feel absolutely welcome. I would rate this 5 stars however one item was missing from our order. So just double check (like you would anywhere) but you will not be disappointed in the flavours and how fresh everything tastes.
Best little place to get Chinese food. It was a very friendly and welcoming place. Loved the chicken balls, rice, egg rolls..loved it all. Will visit there again.
The best!
Local Chinese cuisine
Rice tasted like it was burnt yesterday then frozen over night and slightly burned it again before serving it the chicken balls were so bad that I had wished they just served me sobeys brand chicken balls instead would of at least half enjoyed something cherry sauce was like oily red water
Small place that serve a lot of take out. Food is good, prices even better. Chinese lady who does it all there is very friendly and welcoming. I ate there twice and certainly would go back. Not upscale.
Best place in town for Canadian Chinese
Good food less price... Better than a lot of famous restaurants..
We go here often for neighbourhood Chinese takeout. Portions are generous, food is always prepped fresh and by the time I call it in and walk or drive over my order is usually ready to go.
Fairly standard Chinese food.
Best Chinese food in town ....
Jeff is wrong, this place is so good it will blow your mind. The best Chinese food in Newfoundland
Excellent service, cheap price, quick service and excellent food. Will and have returned
Best food ever, the rice is to die for. Plus the service is nothing but awesome. Its my go to Chinese food when ever I have a craving.
Love it! Always get the same thing but the singapore noodles,s chezwan chicken and lemon chicken are fab!!
My wife loves the hot and sour soup and its her medicine whenever she has a cold. :) I love their food as well, super nice people.
Lovess it!
Best Cantonese food in St. Johns, hands down. Family owned, established for 25 years. They must be doing something right. I highly recommend checking it out!
Some of the best food Ive ever tasted. Not just good Chinese food, but excellent food. The rice tasted like it had been cooked in a 5 star Chinese restaurant. I kid you not, it tasted like it was straight from China. We also had the Phoenix chicken, which was nothing but awesome, batter that must have been left in the deep fryer for the perfect amount of time. Golden friggin brown! The chicken balls were also out of this world. The egg rolls tasted like heaven, which is fine if you want to believe in heaven, but not in an egg roll. The only thing that was either bit bad was opening the plum sauce, friggin greasy fingers. We ordered this by delivery, it took very little time to get here, and price was reasonable. The taste was out standing. My fiance says she now has a conditioned taste to Chinese food. Thanks New China Town Eatery for introducing her to the best Chinese around. She will not eat Chinese anywhere else. Seriously, do not go some where else for food, dont put yourself through missing this. Thank you China Town Eatery,
Some of the worst food Ive ever tasted. Not just bad Chinese food, but terrible terrible food. The rice tasted like it had been cooked over a camp fire. I kid you not, it tasted like fire burnt rice. We also had the Phoenix chicken, which was nothing but gross batter that must have been left in the deep fryer for 5 minutes too long. The chicken balls were also a strange breed as they were very soft a mushy with a odd flavor. The egg rolls tasted like curry, which is fine if you want curry, but not in an egg roll. The only thing that was either bit palatable was the beef and broccoli. Which would have been fine if the restaurant only served that. We ordered this by delivery, it took little over an hour to get, and price was reasonable. The taste was not. My fiance says she now has a conditioned taste aversion to Chinese food. Thanks New China Town Eatery for ruining Chinese food for her. Seriously, go some where else for food, dont put yourself through this.
