Ive ordered the same thing here multiple times almond chicken guy ding and chicken balls and fried rice everything has always been amazing the veggies in the guy ding always fresh and the chicken is always perfect will never go anywhere else for great Chinese

I used to live on Monroe Street I have know the people who used to own Monroes take out years ago and the service was fast and also friendly all times there the store has never changed very much there foods Ive have loved for years still and I will never stop going there Kid-friendliness: Fast service and friendly staff members all the time

This was my first visit here. I was told by a co- worker this was the best spot for what I was looking for... and it turned out to be true! Waiting area was half full when I arrived. Called ahead and was told 20-25 mins for my order to be ready. It took about an hour in total...but most people in the waiting area were there for over 20/30 minutes waiting as well. I guess it was the Saturday night rush. Lol Food was delicious. Definitely want to try more from their menu

This place is only a take out. The food was great but there was a long wait. It was New Years Eve, however.

If I could give zero stars I would. Boyfriend and I ordered chow mein in hopes of a noodle dish. Turns out they dont put noodles in their chow mein? Maybe someone should mention that on the phone especially since we ONLY ordered that and some spring rolls. Also, was so greasy and drippy, it ruined the paper bag and spilled all over my coat, pants, and car seat. Thanks for nothing. Dont waste your money here.

This is one of the classic Chinese take out spots in St. Johns. Pick up only, order about 40 minutes before you want to pick up. Their soups and BBQ fried rice are to die for. All of their dishes have that great flavor that comes with a well seasoned wok.

We called in our order at 4:30. Was told it would be ready in 20-25 minutes. Drove from mount pearl and got there around 5. They seemed busy and very unorganized. Got our order at 5:30. Drove back to mount pearl. Opened the bags and it was not our order. Not even close. Had to drive back to Monroes. Finally got back home to eat around 6:30. Didnt offer us a refund or anything. The young fellow working there was very flustered and confused. Youll need to smarten up and be more organized before we go there again. Also the food was VERY greasy and bland. PLEASE CHECK YOUR ORDERS BEFORE LEAVING!!

I orded noodles along with other things, and didn t get them. Cookies were stale. Rude workers.

Garlic honey wings were boiled? Had some broth? Really weird and went to the trash. Then I had fried pork bbq with vegetables. Very bland and had a hair . Than a second and third hair. I suggest wearing a hairnet. All in 33$ of food I didn t eat and went to trash. Big disappointment.

BY FAR the WORST restaurant I ve tried in my life. I m shocked and I have no words to describe what I ve tasted. I ve travelled to over 40 countries including China & Hong Kong, and I ve never tasted anything as bad as this. It s an insult to the Chinese culture. I tried the sweet chicken, the fish n chips, the hamburger, and one Asian dish. The sweet chicken and the fish n chips were extremely oily with no seasoning. The hamburger tasted like chowmein, and the meat was questionable. I had hope for the Asian dish, but it was horrible. So I don t understand the good reviews. They are either fake or they come from people who have not tried a lot of different food in their life. I always joke around about this place because it s literally the worst thing I ve tried in my life, and in any larger city this place would ve been shut down.

How to start... My partner and I had the sweet chicken, a vegetable and pork dish and a fish and French fries.... I have never seen such a greasy fish and chips in my life! The fish was dripping with oil, literally. As for the sweet chicken, I dont know what to say. Putting jello on fried chicken... ok why not, but very expensive for what it is. The pork dish was intensely bland. Oh yes, we also had a burger. Honestly, the meat looked like it was from last year. It had a bitter aftertaste. All this to say that we spent a total of 75$ (including delivery) for the whole thing, and we ended up with beautiful stomach aches the evening and the next morning. To be avoided at all costs! Scammers !!

It was Good, not to expensive, not crowded, food was good as well . These days its hard to find a good place to eat out and feel good about it and actually enjoy what you just bought. Thank you Monroe Take Out.

No seating, strictly take-out. The waiting area is shabby. It didnt bother me! Parking can be difficult if they are busy due to it is a home converted into a restaurant so setting is a residential neighborhood.

Definitely the BEST Chinese food in the St.Johns /mount pearl/Cbs/area! Despite their high demand they consistently give you quality food and great service every time! I have also never had an order arrive cold or incorrect. I know everyone makes mistakes and food service can t be perfect all of the time so maybe it s just a happy coincidence that it s never happened to me! Side note/ps- I ordered from there last night and the leftovers in the fridge are already calling my name (at 9am LOL) Come on lunchtime

I went there years ago for the first time, ordered a poutine and cheese burger and from that day on I have never tried anything else on the menu! Best in the city! Great flavor and price! Cant beat them!

We ordered Chinese take out from Monroe Restaurant. Food was forgettable. Forgot the egg rolls. Even the rice was bland. Delivery was an hour late, because they are taking orders from outside their delivery area, Mount Pearl. On the positive side, the fortune Cookies were on par. My advice when running a Chinese restaurant, get good at a couple of dishes. Own them.

I really enjoyed the food. The interior could use some upgrading but the meal was great!

The store itself is dirty and disorganized. Behind the counter you can see a bunch of things you wouldnt normally find behind the counter of a restaurant such as stacks of pop cans for sale and a vacuum cleaner. Despite the unorganized appearance Monroes has the best tasting Chinese food in the city and its great value for the portion sizes you get. If they cleaned up the waiting area and decorated it a little neater it would be a much better experience. A seat in the waiting area would be a great addition as well.

If you want to try the best onion rings in the city, drop by Monroes, you wont be disappointed. Chinese food is decent and most of it what you would expect but, wouod not suggest the egg Foo Yung. Very basic, mostly folded egg. Used to have a great cheeseburger but it wasnt as good as I remembered the last time I was there about 10 years ago. But again, order the onion rings, even if youre getting standard fair... just so amazing

One of the best places in town for takeout

First time trying this was last week. Called and placed 3 orders. 15-20 minute wait, not bad at all. Staff was friendly when we got there. Food was hot and fresh. Lots of combos to choose from with great prices. Will definitely order again.

I was ripped off $17. When I called to talk to them, a younger male took the call. He told me the Facebook profile that I got the prices from was not made by them; it was a fake Facebook account. I asked why would someone make a Facebook account with their business name, their full menu, and prices... He told me there are weird people out there who make fake accounts. When I added the items up individually and then the tax and STILL came out with a different number than him, he told me it was because I did not add the items up in the same way he did (which was to add each individual item + tax and then together). He was saucy, ignorant, and never offered to correct the situation in any way. This was the poorest customer service I have ever had. Its a shame this business has this guy as a representation of their restaurant.

If you want simple food delivered late at night this is your best best. My husband just wanted a burger and he was happy with that i though i was ording noodles and pork but he misordered and it was just pork and it was very dry and unedible.

I have been a customer of Monroe Take Out on Monroe Street for 20 years plus.... It is my understanding they are a second generation business, moving into the third generation. It is my go to place for take out Chinese food. In fact, I have to pass several other establishments to get there. ITS THAT GOOD! They offer both Chinese and Canadian food. The menu is quite large for a take out with a selection of combination platters as well as individual dishes. All made fresh to order. Very tasty. Very good value. Dont let appearances fool you. You should go.
