I recently visited this cafe and really enjoyed my time here. The service was great and I had a great conversation with Alla. I had a delicious latte, cookies, and cake. I highly recommended stopping by at this cafe if you are in the area.
I’ll start with saying that I think Toslow has a lot of great ideas (Louisiana food, movie showings, etc) but I find their execution in the simpler tasks are a bit lacking. The coffee has always been great every time I’ve visited. What I mean by the execution lacking is: - The first time I went, it took quite a long time to receive my latte. We were the only ones being served at the time which is why I was surprised and thought it was worth mentioning. This was a few months back. - The second time, which was just a few days ago, I ordered an iced vanilla latte. The person working there informed me they were out of cold lids or cups and told me they’d put it in a standard cup for a warm drink but reassured me that they knew the drink was iced. When she got done making the drinks she handed me to hot vanilla lattes. I don’t think either or these points should dissuade anyone from visiting, but I do think that if they can figure out how to execute just a bit better, this would be a stellar spot to visit.
Stopped in on a Saturday morning for a latte and a sandwich. The vibes here are very cheerful and warm. The employees were very friendly and upbeat. After pulling the first shot the barista felt the extraction needed a little tweak and proceeded to pull a couple more shots. The result was a perfectly balanced latte that tasted amazing. The attention to detail made this coffee a very memorable one. The western sandwich was full of flavour and hit the spot. Thank you for the amazing experience.
Amazing place! And so delicious cookies! I am a regular customer because these are the best cakes in the city😍
We came here for breakfast and I wish I could say I enjoyed it, but my stomach did not. I ordered TLT and was told that it wasn't spicy but it is for those that are sensitive to (hot) spice. It may have been the vegan mayo. The coffee I understand was pretty good. The vibe is pretty friendly. The space is cute. I just wish I was given proper information before I ordered my meal.
Went in on a Thursday morning to grab a drink and baked good to go. Found out they only do baked goods on the weekend. Grabbed a vanilla latte to go - which was tasty and made quickly. There was only 1 person working (that I saw) and 1 other customer at the time. The staff member was efficient, though not overly welcoming or friendly. The vibes of the space are great - on a different day, it would be a great place to come and work or read a book. We did try coming on Wednesday, as Google said they were open, and so did the sign on the store. It was Regatta day, so I understand why they would be closed. However, putting up a sign or updating Google with this information would have been helpful, as travelers rely on this info (and they are across the street from a hotel).
I love this place. Love LOVE it. Coffee - banger. Pastries - Banger. Breakfast sandwiches - BANGER. Always super friendly staff, wonderful vibes, tasty treats, and super delicious sandos, with the added bonus of being able to takeaway some wholebean coffee for myself, honestly it's one of my local treasures for sure. (PS: happy birthday Toslow!)
I liked the somewhat odd eclectic mix of decor throughout the place....and the view from the second floor is awesome. The coffee was good but a regular mug would have been better than the "takeout" one we had. Also, we never got a feeling of "warmth" from the people who were there. There was loud music coming from the kitchen and more loud music competing with it in the seating area which was super annoying. I'll try the place again as I never had any of the food and the sandwiches looked good.
Memorable sandwich at a fair price. Service was cool and hands-off, despite prompting for a large tip. Sat at the large window table, where it was cute and homey. Not sure youll have the same experience sitting anywhere else.
I had an amazing breakfast sandwich on focaccia bread and a great cup of coffee.
I like to go here for a quiet night out. They have a small selection of great food items, ranging from a nice dinner to bar snacks. The food is reasonably well priced. Small space, with a lower section around the bar and an upstairs lounge/dining area.
Delicious food and coffee from experienced and knowledgeable baristas. Looking forward to our next visit.
Toslow is a hidden gem with delicious high quality baked goods and desserts from a talented Ukrainian chef. I loved everything I tried. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The only problem I had is that it was quite cold inside so I couldn t enjoy the place as long as I d like.
Stopped in with a friend on a Friday afternoon for a tea. Went to the bar to place my order and the server told me to walk around to where she was standing. She said quite nastily That s why I m standing HERE . I complied. When paying for my tea, the first option on the screen is for the tip amount. I paid one. I told the server we d be sitting upstairs. To which she responded, No you wait here for your drink, then take it yourself. Mediocre atmosphere and nasty service. This is what your money can buy at Toslow. I won t be returning.
My favorite place in St-Johns!! Good food from early in the morning to late in the evening, beautiful view, beautiful decor, great music, very cool and warm atmosphere, live music sometimes, most interesting and cool staff!
I finally found a place where I can buy my favorite pavlova cake. Thank you very much to the pastry chef and the very positive bartender girls.
It was fantastic, it s my favourite cafe in St. John s
What a nice little café! We really enjoyed our light breakfast. My London Fog tea and western on a bun were great.
I had a delish vegetarian breakfast sandwich. I enjoyed it so much that we stopped there a second time, before going to the airport on our way home. The lattes were also very good.
The best biscotti. I kiss your hands!
Great place with fantastic desserts! They are yammy and unique, I just love their cakes!
Love the down to earth but exciting Cajun food. Was short on drinks after a busy weekend but the cider was good and they have nice natural wines.
Very cute cafe.. but the cold brew we had was sour and not drinkable
My wife and I stopped in while in port on a cruise. We both ordered a Ham & Mostardo, she ordered an Iced Latte and I ordered a Peaches & Creme Latte made with Chai instead of Iced Tea. Everything was phenomenal. We ate upstairs while enjoying the music, a playlist of indie pop we both enjoyed. Highly recommend.
Lisa was just delightful. She is so great with people, making conversations, general promotion of the food and just inviting! She is a .
The space, service, and the cider could not have been better. My new favourite hangout spot, Hannah and Lisa were great !!
Friendly staff, great service. Will definitely be back.
Delicious food and great beverages. Order and pay downstairs, and then food will be brought to you. Can be hard to get seating. Great staff. Decor is like hanging out in your Nans living room, if she were also young and cool and had great taste. Highly recommend brunch here. Parking: Parking is street parking Wheelchair accessibility: Not wheelchair accessible
Just casually went inside to take my evening coffee chances with them. Highly recommended !
Such amazing coffee. Newfoundland is my second home. I could totally live in St. Johns because I would be broke buying coffee. This place was so good and just like other places I visited. Super friendly staff!
Lisa and Cheney are the best!!
Seriously the best breakfast sandwich and flat white.
Fun off kilter place in downtown St. Johns. They serve coffee, pastries, some local craft beer, cocktails, and cider made by the owners. Very cool spot with an eclectic mix of clientele. Staff were super friendly (probably because their view from the cash looks out the narrows of the harbour). Overall fun. And if you are into cider, check these guys out. It is funky and progressive. Im looking forward to where they are going to go with future ciders.
Came here for latte. It was made to perfection. I wish the place is little bigger.
Fantastic service, great food, delicious lattes, and an incredible view on the second floor of the Narrows. Vegetarian options: Vegan breakfast sandwich available
Just had breakfast there with my crew. Had a lg. drip coffee and their B.L.T. So good!!! Highly recommend this place. Thank you for the warm welcome
Definitely the best sandwich I ever had in Canada, no kidding!
Good coffee
Had some locally produced cider, a prawn sandwich with a Gambo style stew here last night. Good conversation with the friendly staff and other patrons. Sat at the counter : always the best place for conversation. Nice atmosphere, small place which resemble a country pub, a counter, and bar stools with a few tables and chairs. Finished with a mug of tea and fresh milk. As a solo traveller, this place fulfilled my nutrition and social needs.
Perfect, cozy coffee shop. Weekend grilled cheese sandwich was delicious and came out quickly. Everyone is super friendly so it s a nice, relaxing space.
Had the breakfast sandwich, drip coffee and vanilla latte. All were bang on! Best breakfast sandwich ever. For context I consider myself a foodie
absolute vibes. the staff are all super friendly and knowledgeable, lots of cool niche craft beer, the smash burgs are huge and cheap and wonderful, small but interesting and fairly priced menu, clean bathrooms. cool place to hang for a while.
What a surreal experience. Went for the burger challenge two Fridays ago. Burger was decent, but the fries you could count one one hand. Not a deal breaker ... despite the price tag being a little atrocious for the product. This though .... A friend asked for ketchup, as the bottle was empty. The server told us that they were all out, but Caines (a convenience store) next door has some packets if you want to go grab some ... then she walked away. We all looked at each other in absolute bewilderment. Hahahaha. Ive never witnessed anything so ridiculous ... and Ive been in the service industry for almost 30 years. Absolutely mind-bending.
Often cramped and not particularly accessible, but the food is amazing. Prices are a little higher than average (anecdotally) but for good reasons I think. The decor is quaint, and the background music is better than many similar places. Havent been to the evening-bar, but Id like to.
Awesome!
I love the atmosphere and have never been disappointed with their food!
Charming Newfoundland vibe Cafe. Great coffee. Great view from the second floor seating area :)
Tom and Julia were pleasant and excellent to talk to on my last night in St John s. Great cocktails and a cozy bar, highly recommend visiting!
Went there for some pastries and coffee - unbelievable. Delish
A trendy hidden gem that you might not find unless you are told about it. Good espresso based drinks, creative baked goods in the morning, and a menu that seems to change frequently so there s always a reason to go back again. Small, quirky, and delightful, with perhaps the best seating on the second floor. Pro tip: Keep any eye on their socials for opening / kitchen hours to avoid any disappointment.
I live very close to this location so I ve been around for the last 4 years, it s the closest coffee shop to my yoga studio so I go there maybe once a week. However in the 4 years I ve been around I never once had a friendly encounter with the staff. I love baked goods and coffee so I go in there a lot riddled with anxiety. The are heavy on the warm pink with kitties everywhere is virtue signalling since there isn t a friendly innocent environment at all. Unless you re part of the dt scene, punk or maybe if you walk in with a dt skater boys they will finally acknowledge you. When they want you to leave they just blast some annoying music to clear it out or let you know they re closing time before you sit down. It s a shame the staff hate themselves as much as they do because this would be the coffee shop in downtown. All of my friends noticed this, and the only people who have a good experience with their staff are the people who are friends with them or when they re too busy making lattes they have no time to be nasty. If you re a single women or empathetic being it s never worth it. Night time staff are a little better then day time.
Very cute little restaurant/bar! We went for their pizza night, and the pepperoni pizza was delicious! We even had their signature cocktail, which I loved, really refreshing. The upstairs is really cute and the service was fast.
There are not a ton of cafes in St. Johns, at least around downtown. So we decided on Toslow for some coffee and food after exploring for a while. This place is in the north end of downtown on Duckworth and well worth it. We had two iced Americanos which were okay but could have been a little stronger, still nice as it was hot and humid. We also ordered two breakfast sandwiches and I think it isnt hyperbole to say that it was the breakfast sandwich I have ever had. It was a beautifully toasted sesame bagel with bacon, lots of well cooked, high quality bacon, cheese onions and some homemade chutney style jam. It was so so good. Amazing. The interior is fun and cozy. Definitely a good place to go if you need to rest your legs.
Fresh saucy and delicious sandwich s I also orders iced caffe mocha which was refreshing and cold hit the spot I slurped that drink in 20 sec it was a hot day and I walked there so it hit the spot For anyone staying as a tourist snd looking for a quick snack and wanna try some awesome food and drinks please visit them and got it a try and share ur experience . Vegetarian options: They have many options for vegetarians .
A rare find! Adorable tea break.
Cute little cafe with very tasty pastries
Best third wave coffee in town! And great service
I heard about this small Cafe from my friend but this is first time in my more than a year in St. Johns I decided to stop by. Absolutely lovely view on the Narrows from the 2nd Floor. I am usually very picky coming to the taste of coffee but I enjoyed my cup of cappuccino (cookie was lovely also). I will come back;)
This is my buddy and Is favorite place for dinner - we try to go every month and were never disappointed. The dinner menu rotates; they post that weekends menu on their Instagram every week, and its always unique, flavourful, creative, and masterfully plated. Despite the small menu on each rotation (theres usually 5-6 dishes to choose from each weekend), there are almost always at least two vegetarian options (which are proper, filling, delicious meals not just salads like a lot of places). For the food quality, the price is very reasonable. Ive also been there for breakfast sandwiches and theyve been divine. Plus, its quality food in an unassuming, quirky, fun environment. My only negative comment is expect to wait a bit longer than usual for food: theyre usually quite busy Vegetarian options: Lots!
Love the Sammies and the vibe! Drip coffee is normally good but was watery the last time I was there. The last few espressos I ve had have been a little too bitter or sour - I feel they didn t dial in the espresso to bring out the flavour of the beans. I figure that affects the other espresso drinks. I usually see great latte art though.
Cute coffee house with great coffee and friendly staff. Baked good ranging from cupcakes to zephurs are an extra bonus. The perfect spot to go if you re staying at the nearby Marriott Courtyard.
Immaculate Cafe vibes with some of the best esspresso Ive ever had. And that breakfast sandwich - hooooly
Decided to try this place finally as Ive only heard good things. Came for a Sunday breakfast sandwich. It was the best Ive ever had!... perfection! Coffee (americano) was very good as well. Quite impressed with the winelist too, so Ill definitely have to return some evening. Vegetarian options: Most dishes have vegetarian options or just are.
Nice laid back place with tasty food. They have a new baker from Ukraine, Alla, who is creating amazing desserts. Merengue, cakes, cookies, you name it . Highly recommended!
This is one of the best places to go for some amazing good food and the atmosphere and the workers treat you like family. I love coming here for a relaxing and amazing evening and its great for takeout too. The staff Tom Andrew and Sarah are absolutely amazing individuals. They go above and beyond with everything and treat you like one of their own. For anyone who hasnt tried this yet I highly recommend it. Their menu is amazing and the food, well that speak for itself.
The food was absolutely amazing. Got the falafal wrap and its was insanely delicious!!
The pastries! The pastries! Dear gawd, the pastries! Yes, and this wine is my new favourite. But the pastries!
A pillar of St. Johns and a must visit place for a great coffee and some of the best food in the city. The breakfast sandwich is a classic choice and the faux pulled pork sandwich is out of this world. You wont be disappointed choosing Toslow!
the most delicious treat spot in town!! all their baked goods are to die for and their food options for both breakfast and dinner are mouth watering!! i love this place dearly, the only downside to toslow is that their customer service is not very welcoming and their coffee isnt great.
Incredible food: baked goods especially but the breakfast/brunch items are really special as well. Exceptional Space: the decor would be worth the trip on its own, kitschy cat pictures litter the walls and the overall vibe is very much your cool Great Aunts house. Do yourself a favor and visit, my favorite brunch place so far. The only complaint is the limited space for groups of more than two.
Amazing coffee, delicious breakfast sandwich, friendly staff, great music. 5/5 no notes.
Cozy atmosphere, great service!
Great space overall
Highly recommend! Food was fantastic, some of the best Ive had in St.Johns. Super friendly and fast service as well.
My favourite kind of coffee shop
Great food for brunch and dinner (I personally prefer the dinner menu!), second best wine selection in town, best cat decor in the province.
In a city that lacks a solid third wave coffee scene, Toslow offers stellar baristas who make some of the best coffee in the city. The pastries and breakfast options are unique and delicious too!
Only was able to snag a pastry as takeout, but it was a pretty amazing one regardless!
I will have to get some pics next time but Lovely and I love Toslow so very much. with metta Lyrilla Kip
Colin is an awesome bartender!!
Great energy, great food, and that weird, weird service that always comes with a hipster style place like this (weird isn t bad though, you know! It s just, weird!) would 100000% eat here again, food was perfect!
Great place for cool cats. Great cappuccinos and breakfast sammiches to put in your face. Killer pastries too. At night check it out as a chill bar!
Best coffee in St. John s and tasty food
The lunch sandwich was good. The atmosphere itself is quite good, the place gets full quickly so its difficult to find a place to sit, even though the floor is quite airy and large. The checkout service was quite ordinary/expeditious, certainly due to the crowds...
My partner and I didnt feel particularly welcome here. The server/bartender didnt acknowledge us for several awkward moments until we approached asking whether the restaurant was closed or not. Apparently it wasnt so we asked to grab a table. The mood and vibe felt very off and weird so we only stayed for a drink before heading out. I wasnt sure if they were hoping to close early or not (we arrived at around 830 and on Google it says they close up at 12am). Needless to say next time we visit St. Johns well probably be skipping Toslow, which is a shame because the drinks were really good and the restaurant was highly recommended by folks we spoke to. Maybe youll have a better experience than we did.
MUST GO HERE! Vegan or not they have something for everyone. The food was exceptional and the staff, extremely pleasent and kind. Highly recommend going early if you want to dine in as this spot is very popular!!
These are the best sandwiches you will ever have in your life hands down.
Excellent service. Great atmosphere.
The lattes and goodies along with service is delightful!
Place is great but seating is not guaranteed. The breakfast sandwich and chai are good morning options
The food is great. They make the best baked goods in the city, by a landslide. Its just unfortunate that their staff isnt a little more friendly.
Great coffee and views
Awesome cafe/bar. Great coffee, beer and food selections. They usually have vegetarian options on the menu and I havent had anything there I didnt enjoy. Love this place!
Their baked goods are always amazing and they change up their menu often! I love that the space functions well as an evening space as well as a cafe for the morning :) I love coming here!
Awesome decor. Comfortable, charming and just like you would like home to be. Delicious food and baked goods made with artisan skill and love.
This place is amazing. Always doing interesting food pop ups. The pastry s are amazing. The beer is superb. An absolute gem! Must visit!!!
Small space, delicious breakfast sandwich and coffee
Loved the ambiance and the food
Love this place. Good coffee, good breakfast food, and amazing pastries. Food isnt your traditional breakfast, but lots of exciting flavour combos and it was all delicious. Not a lot of tables (due to covid protocols) so get there early on a weekend if you want to sit in.
Excellent environment and even better food!!! Must try!
Best sandwiches in town. Not close. Do yourself a favour and get a donut.
I ordered cappuccino & cinnamon donuts. Food is always great (5/5). I wish the coffee cup was a little bit bigger, you get a much larger coffee at rocket bakery for the same price. I wouldn t recommend going their for work or focus. Place is small, downstairs coffee machine was loud and upstairs kitchen was loud. I had to use earplugs to avoid the noise. Staff very friendly and great customer service, no complaints other than noise.
Delicious baked goods and amazing coffee both hot and iced. My go to coffee shop!
Lovely staff, stellar ambiance, and incredible food!! The perfect post-hike eats/drinks. Will definitely be back!
Breakfast sandwich was amazing. Hands down best ive had. All made in house and so delicious. 10/10
Very nice little coffee shop with great staff!
Quiet and cozy atmosphere with a younger clientele. They emphasize coffee and baked goods early in they day, but switch to full restaurant mode with licensed bar later. Can be a little expensive depending on what you order and how much you drink. But good menu, service, and a sophisticated vibe.
Great little hidden gem! Coffee and home baked goods during the day, drinks and snacks in the late evening
We went for breakfast, it was fantastic, great coffee and pastries, my wife had a vegan breakfast, she loved it.
This place is a hidden gem. I got the sweet chilli tofu sub and it was best sandwich I ve ever had! They also had a lot of baked goods and pastries that looked super yummy. It s a really great spot. Check it out if you re in the downtown area.
My husband and I had the most wonderful brunch here during our trip to St. Johns. My tofu scramble was so delicious and my husband loved his breakfast sandwich! The upstairs seating area is so cute and charming. Loved all the vintage touches. Hope to come back someday soon.
Went on for drinks with a small group. Ducks were excellent. The place is small and a bit cramped and I found the service to be a bit disorganized and slow.
Had a great chicken club sandwich here! It s a great nook for a small group (3-4 people) who want a quiet place to chat and snack.
Some of the best food and best craft beer and cocktails this city has to offer
Delicious sandwich, cake and coffee.
Amazing food and coffee! Wonderful for vegetarians. Welcoming atmosphere. One of the places I will miss the most leaving St. Johns, and I couldnt leave without giving them 5 stars.
Great bar. Very small so seating is at a premium but if you get those seats its a great spot. Good local beers and good snacks and food earlier in the day.
Great spot
Sweet little spot! Yummy baked goods, a menu for breakfast and lunch surely primising, and good local beer selection!
I love the bit of cheese that leaks out of the scone that gets crispy like a little cheese chip...
Best watering hole and coffee bar in town.
Cool little place, Loved the beer!
Some of the best beer and cocktail offerings in town - I don t go as often as I should. Food is also deadly.
Best breakfast sandwich in town!
Excellent little hole in the wall with an interesting beer selection. One of my favourite bars in town.
I always love thank you good
Went on a Saturday morning. No breakfast options until brunch at 10am. Breakfast Sandwiches are only during the weekday. Got a scone, muffin, and a coffee which were all good. Would have given 3 stars but I have to assume that Saturday mornings before 10am is just not the time to go to Toslow.
Tidy little spot. Its a shame you cant pull a pint on the steps.
Cozy space with great coffee and treats
Pastries and brunch just incredible. Very reasonably priced for some of the best food in town.
wicked brunch
Small and quiet place for a chat with a couple of friends. Great down-tempo music and super comfy couches and chairs from someones nans place..
Nice little hole in the wall
Food and service are amazing!
Best breakfast sandwich in town.
Great selection of local craft beer. Cozy atmosphere filled with fun folks.
Its a different vibe than any other replace downtown. Maybe not for everyone but I liked it! Its kind of like drinking really good beers in your friends parents basement. They have good friendly service with a small but interesting selection of craft beers. Definitely going there again!
the food is simple but with each ingredient considered and amazing, cozy DIY atmosphere lacking pretension/no corporate vibe. love you toslow
BYS ARE NOTHIN BUT DEADLY
The staff are nice as can be. Great beer selection you wont find elsewhere in town.
