31 Rowan St #29, St. John's, NL A1B 2X2, Canada
The food was delicious! I loved the decor. The waiter was really nice. I ordered toutons and eggs. There were two plates, one with my eggs, home fries, and bologna, and the second plate was just toutons. I was so full and took half of my food home with me. When I return to Newfoundland for a visit, I will definitely make a stop at Pop's Diner again.
10/10 Would come back :) Service was great even though it was packed full. Loved the bun on that burger too, everything was good as it gets.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Inviting atmosphere and clean. We had breakfast and food was delicious and plentiful. Good value for your money.
It was our first day to St John’s.We didn’t felt we were in mood for a regular dinner so we searched for a seafood chowder (seafood soup) and it was delicious 😋 light healthy dinner. The restaurant was ancient like you went back in time in the time machine lol. The service was friendly and fast. The menu looks good so would love to come back another time and try something else!
The food was delicious. It's definitely a retro vibe like you'd see in movies. The staff is very accommodating and patience with children. I would recommend this as a family place for a nice meal. The banana splits are to die for
Super little spot with good eats and friendly staff! My husband for fish and chips.. he was very satisfied! My tirkey soup was homemade! So good! The milkshakes were delicious! Nice family atmosphere.
Wonderful friendly service, delicious food and great music. The turkey soup was homemade, hardy and was lacking nothing. All the breakfast items ordered were prepared perfectly and the kids were so pleased that at the end they got to select a toy from the treasure chest! Our server was attentive and very kind.
Great food, decent prices, and the greatest wait staff in the city. I was pleasantly surprised by the food. I had the spicy chicken burger which has a Caribbean hot sauce so it’s smoky, spicy, and sweet and it was absolutely perfect. Their fries and gravy are top of the line and not to be missed. Give this place a try!
Lovely spot. Very kind staff, but portion size on food was less than desirable :(
TODAY WAS MY FIRST AND LAST TIME AT POPS DINER. THE WAITRESS WAS VERY FRIENDLY. THE MANAGER WESTEN HAD TO BE THE RUDEST PERSON I HAD EVER EXPERENCED AT A RESTURANT. I HAD A FEW SIPS OF MY BOYFRIENDS SODA AND HE HAD ASKED FOR A REFILL AND THE MANAGER SAID THAT I WAS STEALING SODA, YOU NEED TO ORDER 2 DRINKS HE SAID. EVEN THOUGH WE ORDERED A SODA AND A MILKSHAKE ( WHICH WE SHARED). MYSELF AND BOYFRIEND WERE SHOCKED AT HOW HE TREATED US. AFTER A FEW MINS OF PROCESSING WHAT HE SAID, I CALLED HIM BACK OVER AND GAVE HIM A PIECE OF MY MIND. THE 2 LADIES AT THE TABLE BEHIND US TURNED AROUND AND TOLD US THEY WERE OUTRAGED AND WHAT WAS SAID TO MYSELF AND BOYFRIEND. THEY WERE SO OUTRAGED AND FELT BAD FOR US THAT THEY ACTUALLY PAID FOR OUR LUNCH. THANK YOU AGAIN LADIES WE KNOW THAT THERE IS STILL KIND AND THOUGHTFUL PEOPLE OUT THERE. Parking: DURING MONDAY - FRIDAY HAVE TO PAY FOR PARKING UNTIL 6PM. FREE PARKING ON WEEKENDS. LIMITES SPACE MY THE DINER ITSELF
The cup of chowder was a meal, hot, loads of seafood and the slice of homemade bread for dipping was delicious! Our first time there and certainly not our last. Our server was well informed about the food and the service was super.
The food was absolutely delicious, I had the beef dip and my husband the fish and chips. Amazing service, Amazing food
Clean and the food was fairly good. My problem is you look at menu pricing but there is so much that is extra. A roast beef dinner includes gravy over the roast beef but you have to pay $2 more to have gravy over your vegetables. A beef dip only includes beef, bread, and dip. Cheese mushrooms and onions are all extras. I ve never seen this elsewhere.
Was awesome
Absolutely love this place!
Best breakfast in st. Johns
This is a wonderful place, we had breakfas, I trid a touton with molasses and it was awesome, service was exceptional fast and friendly.
Never disappointed with the food and service here. Always top notch! Turkey Dinner is A+.
We had 12 in total with two booths.Service was fast and food fresh.First time during supper always had breakfast at Pops
The meal was great, the service was awesome! I would recommend trying Pops Diner if youre visiting St. Johns. Parking: There is a metered parking lot with lots of spaces.
Food was pretty good! Was excited to try. Atmosphere was cute, just like a diner out of the 70s. Staff was pleasant enough, but i felt very rushed. It was Hubby and I, and 2 teenagers. Girl came by a couple times during the meal, then as soon as the others took thier last bite, she was waiting to take thier plates. Then wanted to know if we wanted dessert. I still had half my meal left, and was actively eating. So i asked for a dessert menu to buy some time. Then she came bk, and I said: No dessert thanks, everyone is full. She then brought the bill and the machine to pay. I was still putting my last forkful in my mouth, and asked: Are you closing soon? She said: No 8 pm (this was at 3:30). I looked around and nobody was waiting to be seated. Made me feel a little off.
Had lunch here one day then came back for breakfast....awesome
The only word that fits is amazing
Nice place , beautiful decor. Like a 50s or 60s diner. Food is tasty and has a decent menu. Prices are reasonable. All in all, great casual dining experience
Went to Pop s twice while I was in St. John s food was excellent. We had breakfast with fish cakes, sausages, eggs, hash browns and Toutons. We ll be back in a heartbeat next time in town.
Absolutely awesome retro vibes! Friendly staff and delicious food! The cheese burger was tasty and the fried were crispy and flavourful! To top it off I had a strawberry milkshake which was awesome! Would love to visit again!
Great little spot, old school vibe! Would try it again!
Good place with nice options of traditional home cooking and great atmosphere. Although it was busy, the service was very friendly, efficient and always aware of the customers needs. I had the roast beef with mashed potatoes, carrots and peas. Very tasty and warm. The roast beef was so soft I didnt even need a knife to cut it, and the gravy went very well with the mashed potatoes. I will definitely go back someday.
Excellent Food. Best I ve had in a long time
I love this place. The atmosphere is so fun. The staff always seems like theyre in a great mood and having fun. The food is awesome. Everything there is homemade, from the bread and burger buns, to the burger patties, to the sandwich fillings. Even the ham served with breakfast is real ham, not that floppy formed deli stuff you see at most places. Theyve got a great breakfast on til 4pm. They offer fun options like adding a scoop of ice cream to your beverage to make a float. Everything is always fresh and delicious. If you want a good diner-style meal in a fun atmosphere served to you by friendly people, this is the spot to go.
Can t comment on the food because we never were seated. We were told to wait outside while they were sequencing, whatever that means. Meanwhile, the restaurant was 90 percent empty. Would not recommend at all.
Excellent staff and great food!
2nd day here. Great food and better staff.
It was delicious, I had mozzarella sticks as a starter , and Nans Turkey Soup , and Chicken strips , and a Vanilla Milkshake !! Absolutely amazing! Definitely coming back! Parking: It was good. You can park anywhere just have to pay.
That s what you call. Good home cooking We ll make it a point every time I visit the island
Went to celebrate my moms birthday breakfast after smittys was full! Best place we have ever eaten by mistake lol will be back again for sure! Also amazing friendly service that was very interactive
Want a real diner experience, visit Pops. Group of 4 all had fresh tasty diner meals.
Nice family friendly restaurant. Food and service were great. Kid-friendliness: Lots of choices on the kids menu.
Atmosphere 10 Food 10 Staff 10
Excellent service and food!!
First time going and I ll be back! We had a great meal and the food was plentiful. Made with real roasted turkey and fresh baked bread.
Great seafood chowder! Plus the atmosphere was worth the visit...50s diner all the way. Kudos
Pleasant place to have a meal in Churchill Square.
Great service, and extremely fast. Its worth noting that a meal with a milkshake and a slice of pie for dessert was $40. Nobody talked me into doing it, my choice of course, but its worth knowing what the prices will be prior to sitting down.
First time in St. Johns and this retro diner did not disappoint. Excellent food and service with a 50s vibe. Highly recommended.
Very cool atmosphere! Just like an old school diner! Service was extremely fast and friendly, serving size is big, and price is fair! Love it!
Atmosphere was fantastic and so was the service!
The food was great, the wait staff was great and it had an old diner atmosphere including the music. Highly recommend Pops Diner for your next meal.
Our group of 8 walked in without any notice and experienced excellent service and great food. Our group had pea soup, milkshakes, omelettes, grilled cheese and egg options. The bread is made everyday in house (hi jen!). Cool music and cute vibe. Must visit.
What can I say? Everything was awesome, from the moment we entered to when we left. Kudos. A must!
I loved the retro diner feeling of pops and the food was delicious. The service was great and the staff were very friendly. I highly recommend stopping in.
The food was delicious. The only issue I had with the food was the fish burger I had the fish slipped out of the bun. My fault mostly. The atmosphere reminded me of Pops from the Archie comics.
Super delicious! Its so cute and cozy. Great variety and freshly made classics. Loved their seafood chowder and my friend loved her clubhouse. The music, menu and decor is all 50s awesome.
What is wrong with their website? Ebay ads? And ads for other restaurants?Seems like they need to take their digital space back as the website link in Google doesnt seem right. Not putting my card number in there!
Food was perfect as always. The sevice was exellent we had a very nice.young Man serve us.Decor was exellent loved the music comming from the jutebox
Had the meatloaf. Its really good with the exception that the sauce is very sweet. Id order it again, but would ask to leave the sauce out. Wheelchair accessibility: There is a ramp at the door, but the door opens outward and that could make the place very difficult to access. There is no room for someone in a wheelchair to open the door while they are on the ramp and if you are not on the ramp you cant reach the door to open it. Although the staff are pretty observant will be there to open the door for fairly quickly.
Awesome food and service
Very good food. Nice steak
My brother and I became regulars at this place. We started going there when we couldn t go to our regular coffee/breakfast hangout Smittys right across the street. Today we went there and got served by Corey, who was new to us. After we had some coffee and toast we started discussing our usual business. It got busier in the restaurant and Corey asked if he could have our table. Essentially kicking us out for the potential of making more money on customers coming in. This was just after we paid our bills and each gave him a 30% tip. We will never go back. There s better food and service at smittys across the street. If you are dining in the Churchill square area and value great customer service go see Tanya and Shirvauna at smittys, they ll treat you like family. They won t kick you out of their restaurant for potential money walking in the door. We as Newfoundlanders should demand better than this. We need to say no to this kind of disrespect in our establishments. If an establishment treats you this way make sure to tell everyone. Oh, and we paid to park there.
I have been to your restaurant several times and I enjoyed it very much! Real good food as well as excellent service! Unfortunately I move around in a wheel chair. I have found. the entrance very difficult in my chair. The ramp while short, but steep and the doorway narrow for a wheelchair. with no automatic door opener. These issues will make it easier for a customer in a wheelchair. Your staff have been very helpful in this situation. I have no idea if this may be a threat to staff or a hazard in any way.I found the snow clearing in the square during this past winter of significant snow to be very challllenging for myself and anyone who may have been moving Y chair with. me sitting in it it very difficult at that time. I5 may be a good ide to bring this issue of snow clearing to the ?uthorities of the Chuculll Square authorities at a later time before next winter. I know, our weather 3ve ts are very unpredictable and I am sure this planning can be very difficult. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Much luck to you and your employees!
Brenden is absolutely fantastic, he gives great service he s polite and overall creates a positive atmosphere. The manager seemed cranky and hostile and over all rude. However Brendan s service was enough to make up for it, truly a great server, amazing food and a really cute 60 s vibe.
Food was great & our server Brendan was amazing and deserves a promotion and raise and definitely needs to be the manager. Reasons why I say that ? The manager was just upset to be there and he might be having a bad day hut he just kept going with the negativity
shor wait and fabulous food and service Kid-friendliness: booths with families w/kids and frail senior both enjoyed Food : 5/5 |
Great food, friendly staff, amazing atmosphere, and incredible ambiance!
I went on a lunch date with my boyfriend, we had both been there previously and had never had any issues, up until now. The food was great but our service was not. As we were getting ready to pay, we decided to split the bill and the server said was she that bad? . We both laughed it off and the server came over with the machine and my boyfriend payed first. A solid 5 minutes goes by & no server in sight. When he came back I told him that I still needed to pay, and he asked my boyfriend if I was always this pushy . After I had payed he made a passive aggressive comment saying see you guys next time implying that we won t be back together. I am extremely displeased with this service and quite frankly won t be returning.
Best service in town! And the spicy chicken burger is to die for!
Nice place. Tasty but just okay food. Good service. It is a diner, not a fine dining place, so lives up to expectations.
Food is great and our server was fantastic. Well definitely be going back!! Kid-friendliness: May daughter is a lover of fish, and they had that as a kids combo, she was also able to sub fries for mashed potatoes.... she was in her glee!! Food : 5/5 |
Never met any kind of breakfast potato I didnt enjoy... Until I ate here. Initially I was disappointed, but then thankful that there wasnt a huge serving of the hashbrowns with my fishcake breakfast. Think they were dipped in the fryer a couple times too many. Fishcakes were good. Though only just good. Best part of the meal was the toast. $87 for 3 breakfasts, 2 coffees, and 1 milkshake, before tip. Ill spend less and eat more elsewhere.
LOVEEEE! I m visiting from PEI and omg you need to try this adorable little diner! Staff is friendly and the food is so good! Recommend the beef dip for sure! Excited to come back sometime.
My girlfriend & I visited Pops Diner for the first time today & had a traditional Newfie Breakfast which they serve all day . Food & atmosphere was amazing. Our waitress Krista was very friendly & personable. A 50s diner theme. We will definitely be back. Check them out!
Best breakfast in St. Johns
Four of us had different menu choices and were equally fully pleased with the food, decor, value and menu. Expert service by friendly and helpful Cory added greatly to our visit Well be back! Food
Good service
Must check this place out! Stepping back in a time capsule with traditional Newfoundland food. Very good experience.
The food was the worst Ive ever had.. The burgers were dry and the fries were even worse.. The milkshake was the best part of my experience. Even when I told them that the food was horrible, I didnt even get a comp for anything.. First and last time I will go there.
Diner menu +. Accessible. Retro 60s ambiance with appropriate background music. Kitchen staff aim to please. Clientele from all age groups.
Busy spot and delicious food! Had a great time and can t wait to go back!
I never thought Id write a review about meatloaf, but I had it today at Pops and was impressed!! It will be one of my go-to dishes!
We received top notch service at Pops Diner. The Server was friendly, courteous and most helpful with all our requests. The food was delicious, delivered to our table just right. It was a celebration of my spouses birthday for which they obliged with a Strawberry Sundae and singing of Happy Birthday! Thank you! We will surely come back. This was just our second visit but were thrilled to have been made aware of Pops Diner. Thanks . Kid-friendliness: The service to our two GrandKids, aged 6 and 8, was fantastic and most satisfying! Thank you
Fantastic food and service; great staff and good prices!!
Everything was perfect
The toutoms were . Best breakfast in St.Johns.
If you want a home cooked style meal in a retro atmosphere, this place is great. Friendly staff, tasty food. We enjoyed our visit. Freshly made milkshakes, turkey dinner on the menu, hot roast beef sandwich smothered in gravy. Exactly what you can expect from this style of restaurant. Parking: Paid parking during the day, free on weekends and evenings. Kid-friendliness: Great place for kids
Tanatswa (AKA Tee) number one server, friendly knows the products super guy
If you like the sixtys atmosphere and the food- then dine here. Great food and service. Everything freshly made.
The place is beautiful and it s a cute vibe. Something different within the city. However, the fries were very salty , the burgers were extremely dry and the batter for the fried cod had no taste.
As someone from Ontario. I loved the cod and the fries. Im definitely coming back here when I get the chance. Highly recommend
Extremely disappointed. It wasnt overly busy when we went, the wait was crazy, our food was sitting there ready and it took the cook 4 TIMES, of ringing the bell, before we got our food. The food we ordered was gross. The bread was homemade and fresh, but we didnt waste all that money just to be satisfied with the bread ( could of went to a bakery for that, and WAY less expensive). So, we been there, done that, NEVER again. Tip: if the staff wanted to talk about other customers, maybe you shouldnt do it around the customers that can hear you!
Didnt like the food. We were there for lunch. I had a hot turkey and my wife had a hot dog and fries. My hot turkey was served on homemade bread that was cut too thick and the wife didnt care for the hot dog. I tasted it and Ive had better. Our first visit was our last.
All in all it was a good experience and I dont regret going. The food tasted delicious and the portions were nice. I wasnt a huge fan of the gravy but I didnt order the poutine. As we sat down it felt like archie and jughead would walk through the door any moment. The server that took our orders was friendly and kind but was slow despite not being busy at all while we were there. We waited at least 5 minutes for our milkshakes and like I said our server wasnt busy taking any other orders or anything. The club sandwich my friend got had dark meat turkey on it which would have been nice to know. I work in a kitchen and all the club sandwiches ive made for customers had white meat. Considering theres preferences about the type of meat people eat it would have been nice to at least know that the club comes with dark meat not white meat. The menu also didnt mention anything about a cherry for the milkshakes. I was commenting on that to my friend just before we got the bill and she said it would have been nice to have a cherry. When the bill came it specifically stated on it that we got whipped cream, no cherry on our shakes. Which was correct but if the option for a cherry was there id like to see it on the menu next to where it said add whipped topping: $1 Spent $60 for two people without a tip. If i go again ill be trying breakfast since its cheaper but then Ill have tried everything that appeals to me Parking: The diner is located inside a plaza with paid parking until 5 or 6pm after 6pm theres free parking. However directly in front of the diner theres free parking but its limited and shared with the other businesses on that side Kid-friendliness: The menu seems to be designed around a very classic menu. Most diners dont offer hot dogs but pops has hot dogs for kids that like that. The atmosphere is bright and colorful. The milkshakes are delicious and could probably share one between two kids
Definitely a 50s vibe! Checkerboard floor, pink walls, teal & steel. Juke box, music from 50s & 60s. The chicken is to die for! Make a lot of things themselves - even burger buns! Upgrade your drink to a float or hand-spun milkshake! Great for the whole family. Gotta bring my Dad! Parking: Parking is free after 6 on weekdays, all weekend Stat holidays.
Nice spot with that retro diner feel....even got the classic milkshakes down to a tee! The servers are very friendly and approachable and didnt mind taking the time to answer questions. The fishcakes had a VERY homemade taste and texture; couldnt ask for better. The only problem was the noise level as the place was packed at the time I visited.....but I suppose that this speaks to the popularity of the place! Well worth a visit!
Wow... Wow... Wow.. If you havent tried this place, u should... Fabulous food... Home made... Huge portions.. quality & great atmosphere.. servers r extremely friendly... Milkshakes, pop, beer... What ever u like... This is the spot... Only opened a year ago... Highly recommend located in Churchill Square so they have tons of parking... Wheelchair accessibility: Ground level, easy access, wide aisles with tables and booths
Fantastic homemade food. Great atmosphere and very friendly staff. Was blown away by the quality of the food. Everyone needs to stop in for brunch and dinner!
Great brunch!
Food was gross and the waiter was creepy. Do not recommend
Had a great experience at Pops Diner food was delicious and the server Ashley was exceptional...will most definitely will be returning...atmosphere and decor was also great...
Came here on a date, and the vibe was totally correct. Throwback-y, with colour pops all over the place! We both had Chicken Fingers and Fries, with Dressing and Gravy, and it was so good! The Chicken Fingers were like old school cafeteria ones in the best way! Highly recommend! Parking: Huge lot with lots of spaces, but not a lot of spaces directly in front. And its a paid parking lot, using an app. Kid-friendliness: Its a delightful spot, perfect for the whole family! Wheelchair accessibility: Its a street level spot with a little ramp for the ledge
Great
Onion rings suck there. Its like they bought frozen rings from Sobeys and just deep fried them. No flavor whatsoever. The milkshakes are fantastic. Food
Great first visit. Highly recommend.
Seafood chowder and a really nice burger. The place was great , really fast and friendly service. The food was delicious. You have to try the chowder . Nice decor, give this place a try Food
tasty breakfast and friendly staff would definitely dine again!
Had the fish cake breakfast and was highly pleased with how good it was.
Worst club sandwich in town. Dry as a bone, no cheese, hard to swallow. Line that baby up with more mayo! Hardly a stain on it. Other than that, everything was pretty good!
I went for breakfast with my husband and our toddler. It was a really good experience. The food was tasty, the prices were so reasonable, the high chair was clean and staff were all friendly and courteous. This is a great option for breakfast, especially if youve got kids. Kid-friendliness: Theyve got a Kids menu and multiple high chairs. They gave us crayons and colouring sheets at our table. Plus our toddler loved being able to watch the servers make milkshakes and you can see into the kitchen so he was totally entertained while we waited for our food (not that it was a long wait). Theres a change table in the mens room, so its easier for dads to bring kids here.
A very cool restaurant with an old school vibe. Great service. Great friendly staff. The vinyl LPs on the wall is cool Food
Hefty breakfast! Good food & good service.
First time there wont be our last...
Great atmosphere and good to match!!! Definitely will be back
Neat experience, but food overpriced and lacked flavour. Milkshakes were deadly though.
Fantastic!! Delicious the classic burger is top notch!
The food is like any other family style restaurant in NL and low quality. The only thing that will keep this place in business will be the atmosphere, not the food.
Met friends here for breakfast. Tammy. ...ummm I mean Stella! Lol was our waitress and she was amazing. The portions were huge, the coffee amazing and the atmosphere was wonderful. Will definitely come back again.
Good coffee, and great milkshake
Wow, I just had the most tender and tasty hot roast beef sammie here! Even the gravy tasted homemade. A great, cheerful spot for quality homemade food. Love the 50s theme, music and friendly staff.
Very friendly staff, could not ask for better. The food was delicious
Delicious meals and wonderful service with a fun 50s atmosphere. Always a great experience!
Really good food i dont live in st jhons but if I come back Ill go again
My friends took me there for a meal on my birthday. The staff sang to me and because it was my birthday I was given a free Sundae. The whole meal was delicious.
Friendly staff, great atmosphere, luv the background jukebox music ,best milkshakes, mouthwatering menu and delicious food. it . PS...Let them know if your celebrating a birthday
All servers were very friendly. The food came out fairly quickly and was very delicious!
Food was tasty, had fish and chips and just the right portion. Server was the best, fast and friendly. place was cute but pretty busy at lunch hour
Amazing breakfast! Love when you get a full pot of tea/coffee to the table. Homemade bread and home fries. Fast service, really busy popular spot
Super good service fast and friendly
One of the best dining experiences in St. Johns. The owners are two of the greatest people on earth, which is reflected in their incredible staff. Every time we go there is better than the last. Already looking forward to my next visit! Kid-friendliness: Awesome atmosphere for kids with a very kid-friendly menu !
I had a good chowder there. Great service.
Awesome place. Real nostalgic
Better than expected! Fresh & good food!
Cozy restaurant, friendly staff.
Not a bad spot. Service was great but food was super mid. Better than a chain restaurant, but far from the best food in the city, let alone the parking lot. Was a little bit expensive for what it was as well.
Went here for lunch and had the hot turkey and mash potato on homemade bread. Best homemade milkshake I have ever had.The food was amazing, portions were generous and our server Krista was fantastic. I highly recommend.
I shall return, great beef dinner and fish!
Great food and friendly staff! I had an issue once ( my child had the issue) I think they handled it better than expected. Above and beyond service. If they make a mistake they will 100% own up to it and fix it!
We visited Pops Diner for the first time and we were impressed my the atmosphere and decor. The food was delicious. My meatloaf was made from scratch and the seafood chowder had lots of seafood. Hats off to the great service. Two thumbs up for Pops Diner.
Love Pops! It is an authentic diner experience. Nothing fancy, everything great. We have had terrific breakfasts and lunches and on at least one occasion went mid-afternoon just to try the milkshakes. They were excellent, made with real ice cream, and as good as any I have had in at least 40 years. Special shoutout to the staff -- always pleasant and helpful!
Great food ,great service
50s diner atmosphere. Good Breakfast
I recently came down here with a close family member of mine and I ordered the wings, shrimps and some fries on the side. The wings were breaded and I usually dont like breaded wings but these wings where beyond delicious, they were perfect. The shrimp was prepared properly and the garlic, butter and the drop of wine add a lot of flavor to it. Last but not least the Fries, the fries were delicious, nothing really to them but there good. Our waiter was really good with us and the scenery was vibey and good. 10/10 restaurant
Food was delicious, had fish cakes and pea soup and they tasted just like Nans! Kids had grilled cheese on nice homemade bread. Service was great and love the atmosphere.
Great spot!
The best food and milkshake I have had! Great spot for a date. The omelette was perfectly cooked and delicious, the hashbrowns were great and the homemade bread was really good. The milkshake was creamy. The atmosphere felt happy, the staff were very friendly. I will definetly go back and eat again!
If you are hungry and want a great breakfast that will fill you up, this is the place to go.
We had the hot turkey sandwich. It was yummy but there was a bone and a large piece of cartilage in the meat. We also had the turkey soup which was good. Service was great and the atmosphere was great. It was reasonably priced. Im sure I will be back.
Wonderful lunch
Everything was so, so good! Great atmosphere, perfect service from Brendan, the milkshakes are to DIE for!
Wonderful service and delicious food
Have the beef dip with cheese and fried onions. If it tasted any better it would be illegal.
My husband and I loved this place. He had the special (lamb stew) and I had a turkey dinner. It was a delicious home cooked meal with excellent service. Best meal we had in our 3 days of visiting St. Johns.
Ate there this morning and the two women serving did everything in their power to keep our 15 month old entertained so we could enjoy our breakfast. It was one of the most positive experiences I have had in a long time. Food was great but service was exceptional.
Great food at very reasonable prices. Excellent staff with special note to our server Jason. Love the 50s diner theme and the NL map and flag prominently displayed. Will visit again.
Absolutely delicious!!! Great food and great service!!
Brandon (wears the pops hat) was a great server as always. Great place with unique retro layout
This place has amazing potential. The milkshakes are to die for, the food is great and the atmosphere is fantastic. I think with a few quality of life changes, this place would be perfect! Napkin dispensers on the tables would be nice and maybe a Chipotle sauce or mayonnaise already on the burgers rather than having to ask for them as an extra would be nice too. Other than that superb job for a new restaurant!
Tried this place for breakfast the other day. Honestly, the food wasnt anything special or worth going back for at all. Heard dinner/lunch is better but Ive yet to try. Very good service from the staff though.
Great place. Homestyle cooking. I was able to try my first Toutin!
What a great place for an old school diner experience! Ordered a , plenty of options to make it a Superdog. The sausage was extremely good, smokey but not overpowering. The chocolate shake with cream and a cherry was indulgent. Returned the following night to have the Classic burger with extras. Can highly recommend this establishment
Great little diner. Our food came on time and piping hot
Everything was fresh and well prepared. Quick and attentive service. Was a pleasant lunch experience.
Good experience. Thick, juicy burger with fresh toppings. Fries were like thick cut homemade stuff your mudder makes. Absolutely deadly. Never got to try the shake as I was too stuffed. Ill be back
Everything is homemade. Everything is delicious and tastes as good or better than you expect it to taste. The people in the kitchen have lots of experience and put love and attention to detail to deliver the most comforting menu. Staff is great and share a love for the place. Take the family, go by yourself, just go again and again.
Set up inside like an old time 50s diner. Old music, old pictures on the walls. The food was excellent, and the place was packed. Servers were quick to get us a place to sit, and were very friendly. Definately recommend.
Good friendly service. Love their fries. Good food.
Chowder was tasty. Was warm but not hot:( Homemade bread very dense and dry. Didnt look, taste, or feel like homemade.
The food was amazing, the service was great, and it really felt like you were back in the 70s/80s, also the bathrooms are very clean if youre someone who cares about that, which I do. My only issue is the location, but I wont fault the diner for this. Parking is very limited and you have to pay for parking, so be aware of that when coming to the diner, since you will be going.
Its just too noisy with background music and patrons.
Great breakfast. Best fish cakes ever.
Been here three times; first time was shortly after opening, and the other two several months later. Decor is fun, service is decent, prices are reasonable, but the quality of the food is low. The main complaint is the lack of seasoning, as mentioned in several other reviews. There is a serious lack of salt in most items, as though the chefs have not once taste tested their food. Anything that is made in house is severely bland, which is a shame, because it is such a simple lesson to learn. What could be an excellent comfort food restaurant has left us with no desire to return because of a very rookie mistake by the chefs. Update: Visited another time - bread has greatly improved, although maybe still lacking the required salt. Breakfast items were all decent quality, and seem to have improved since earlier in the year.
Pretty deadly! They offer a black bean burger which had a hickory flavor and was really tasty. They offer soup, salad ,fries or mashed potato with it. I went with the mashed potato which was not too bad tasting. The server did offer gravy but let me know upfront that the gravy was not vegetarian so, extra points for the communication. Menu included old fashioned themed favorites such as milkshakes and burgers as well as Newfoundland style foods like pra soup and included breakfast until 4pm. Prices were fair. Diner had an old fashioned theme, very pop-ish, colorful, had a jukebox, played trendy, old fashioned music overhead that was easy to listen to. Server was friendly, knowledgeable about menu, quick with service, checked in with how things were. Vegetarian options: They offer a few vegetarian friendly options, black bean burgers are a great one. Parking: Have to pay for parking in Churchill Sq except in a few areas a little bit of a walk to the diner Kid-friendliness: Plenty of kid friendly food items available
This was my first time at Pops, my wife said the breakfast was good, so I had to try it. I had the 4 meats, 2 eggs, homemade hash browns and toasted homemade bread breakfast, It was hot and delicious. I liked that the bread and hash browns were homemade and most of all, they do tea and coffee right. The only other places I have seen this is Maxwell Plums in Halifax (many years ago) and some Cuban resorts. You get an approximate 2-3 cup personal thermos. As long as the liquid going in is hot, then your 2nd and 3rd cup is going to be as hot as the first. This is my pet peeve with restaurants, is it so hard to make a hot cup of tea or coffee?? I liked the old style diner look, our Server was attentive and fun, Tammy the host is great fun and can bring a smile to anyones face. Cant remember if it was her or our Server singing to us. Pops Diner does breakfast right and I will be back. The only downside is they dont open till 10am, my breakfast group usually goes at 9am.
My parents and I went to the diner tonight for our first time. Excellent service and delicious food. The staff were entertaining and made our visit very enjoyable me. Will definitely be back again!
