Welcome to “SINAING” a modernized Filipino Cuisine. SINAING is a Filipino word for cooking rice and a culinary term for steaming/braising fish for long hours. Our dream as chefs is to introduce and contribute our cuisine through our talent, experience and knowledge to Newfoundland and its multi-cultural community, combining local and exotic products available in the market. We offer a wide variety of food that is consumed in a traditional “SALO-SALO” way, (the spirit of gathering people to eat together). We hope that you will enjoy our place, cuisine and service. Thank you and MABUHAY!!!
Discovering the Best Beef Bulalo in St. John’s, Newfoundland: A Filipino Comfort Food Gem As a Filipino immigrant, finding the familiar taste of home in a new country can feel like searching for a piece of your soul. Moving to Canada, I longed for the warmth of traditional Filipino dishes—those that fill not just the belly but the heart as well. That’s why stumbling upon the best Beef Bulalo (Beef Shank Soup) in the Maritimes during my trip to St. John’s, Newfoundland, last July was nothing short of a blessing. Nestled in this picturesque coastal city, the restaurant captured the essence of Bulalo perfectly: a savory, slow-cooked beef shank soup with a broth so rich and flavorful it could rival any made in the Philippines. The marrow, the tender beef, and the infusion of simple yet bold flavors like onions, corn, and cabbage took me straight back to family gatherings around the table. But the feast didn’t end there. I indulged in crispy vegetable spring rolls that were perfectly crisp, offering a delightful crunch with every bite. The tangy vinegar sauce with cucumber and onions provided the perfect balance for the deep-fried oiliness of the rolls, elevating their flavor. A little spiciness from the fresh red Thai chilis, generously provided by the friendly and hospitable owners, Mash and her creative and talented husband, Richard, took all of these dishes to another level. The squid calamares were another highlight—tender and lightly battered, served with a tangy dipping sauce that complemented the seafood beautifully. The sizzling pork sisig brought another layer of flavor, with its savory, smoky notes and perfectly cooked bits of pork served on a hot plate that sizzled delightfully. I couldn’t resist trying sinuglaw, a wonderful combination of grilled pork belly and kinilaw (cured fish), which provided a refreshing contrast to the hearty dishes. The accompanying garlic rice was good but to taste all these in a blank canvas we ordered steamed rice which is a perfect pairing, elevating every dish with in every bite. For the grand finale, I savored the crispy pata—a deep-fried pork knuckle that was golden and crunchy on the outside while meltingly tender on the inside. To end the night with all the shebang, I indulged in halo-halo, a colorful and refreshing dessert layered with sweetened fruits, jellies, and beans, topped with custard cream that added a rich finish. They even offered a dairy-free alternative, ensuring everyone could enjoy this delightful treat. What made the experience even more special was the surprise of finding this array of dishes so far from home. Newfoundland may seem like an unlikely place to encounter Filipino comfort food, but here, in this cozy spot, the warmth and hospitality were unmistakable. It felt like an embrace from my culture—a true home away from home. For any Filipino immigrant or anyone curious about authentic flavors from the Philippines, this spot in St. John’s is an absolute must. You don’t just come for the food—you come for a taste of home, lovingly served across the miles.
Great Filipino food! Having had lots in Winnipeg we can say this is one of my top picks. Had the Seafood Papperdelle Palabok and the Bagnet Pakbet. Palabok had nice sauce on the noodles, flavourful and tasty seafood. The Pakbet had one of the crispiest pork bellies I have had, and the flavour was very aromatic and not too salty or strong with the shrimp paste. Vegetables were cooked perfectly as well. Ordered side white rice to with Pakbet which goes hand in hand. Highly recommend this restaurant as it is authentic Filipino food and service was great, seems like a nice family run restaurant.
Chef is visible to costumers and even more visible and very attentive are 2 great servers that caters in everything you need, just a week in st.johns and i already went there twice for lunch, Menu is 100% aunthentic and elevated to perfection, the awesome balance of crunchy pork rind infused in almost all filipino dishes is so brelliant its worthy for a mechellin star dish. PLEASE.DO TRY THIS SMALL AND HUMBLE PLACE THAT SITS IN THE MIDDLE OF DOWNTOWN! Will worth every dollar...
If you love Filipino food or are curious to try it out, Sinaing is one of the places to be! Apart from the food being sumptuous, delicious and beautifully garnished, our server was super helpful and amiable - she made great suggestions for newbies and old-timers alike (our group was a mix of both). We tried the Chicken Adobo, Grilled Tilapia, Pappardelle Palabok and Pork Sinigang soup. Dishes are reasonably priced. They're accommodating of your allergies and can substitute/preclude ingredients from your dish if desired. Some dishes are clearly marked as "good for sharing" in the menu, which is helpful if you're going as a group (or hungry enough and you know what portion size to expect). The atmosphere is warm and homely, in a grand dinner room sort-of-a-way. The music is always on (would've loved to hear more Filipino music though!) and you have the option to sing your heart out with a karaoke mic! They also have a few choices of Filipino drinks, including beers - though we didn't try that out this time. Overall, it was a great experience - highly recommend! Will surely be going back again.
Had a wonderful meal here. The service was the best! The owner warmly welcomed us into the restaurant and seated us. The restaurant is cozy and inviting. She made some recommendations from the menu aa it was our first time there. We order the Mango Mohito, one of the most delicious drinks I ever had and came out so well presented! We also had a pancit noodle dish with chicken and the deep fried pork dish. All was delicious and fresh. For dessert we had the mango float!! It's not a drink but an ice box dessert 😋 it was amazing!! The service was excellent throughout the meal. Will definitely be back!
I was only in St. John's for a few days, and this was the best meal I had by far. I didn't expect to see Filipino food there and it was such a pleasant surprise. I had the sisig and leche flan, and it came fast and hot even with a large table being served at the same time. The server was sweet and not intrusive or fake. The restaurant is sort of in a house, so it feels homey and warm. The food was beautifully presented and authentic though prettied up to suit local and tourist tastes. Highly recommended, I'd come back again in a heartbeat.
First time eating Philippines food. The food, service and atmosphere was very good. Even some Philippino people next to us said it was great and authentic. Within walking distance of the main street, Water St. Nice little shops and a brewery near by. Would definitely come back and try more things.
Everything was delicious. We really enjoyed coming here on Mother’s day. The Mothers that were there received a rose. I would definitely come and eat again. I recommend getting the Calamari and the Bean picadillo-Fried plantain.
Great place for first timers or experts in Philippine cuisine
so freaking good.
Food was fantastic cant wait to go back.
Absolutely fantastic food and service!! MM the waitress was so nice and helpful! I will definitely go back whenever Im visiting St Johns.
This is home cooked Filipino food at its best. All the wholesome goodness and care youd expect from Moms kitchen :-)
Great little family run joint with yummy food
This restaurant is quite well located, the interior is a house revisited as a restaurant. The kitchen is visible from the room. The room is not very big and it is suitable for small groups of 5/6 and couples. Unfortunately there were a lot of pork dishes. Im not a dessert fan but I was seduced by one of them. See: photo
Such a nice dining experience that brings one back to Philippines
Great cocktails. Friendly staff. Fresh food.
Im just visiting a family here. Craving for pinoy food so I did order .Staff are welcoming, so kind and friendly. Highly recommended crispy pata, calamari and sinigang na hipon. Worth what you pay. I will definitely come back next time we visit.

The service is amazing. You feel welcomed as soon as you get in the restaurant. The food has amazing flavors. You can sense the love in each of the dishes. Totally recommend this place
Delicious food. Highly recommend!
I ve been to a LOT of Filipino restaurants, from Toronto, California, to Hawaii . and Sinaing is honestly one of my top 3 Filipino restaurants. Their food was perfectly seasoned, not salty nor bland. You can tell how much they care and love what they re doing. I ordered the sizzling sisig, BBQ skewers, and garlic rice. I got the mango mojito and ube cheesecake as well. Each dish was delicious. The service was also friendly and caring. When I m back in STJ, I will definitely visit again to try out their other meals! 11/10 highly recommend!

Would highly recommend the BBQ pork skewers!
Best Bulalo away from home! Most recommended Filipino food in St Johns. Will definitely be back to try other dishes!
Visited Newfoundland for a week and ate lots of tasty food, but this place was my favourite! Its easy to overlook this restaurant but trust the reviews and give this gem a try, whether you are a tourist or a local. Theres something on the menu for everyone and the staff will be more than happy to help you make your selection. Prices are very affordable, especially given the portions, preparation, and quality of ingredients. The food was so good that I had to come a second time. We shared the crispy pork belly stew and the oxtail peanut stew, which was a very satisfying dinner for three. The restaurant has charming decor and is kept very clean. Last but not least, the people are extremely kind and down to earth. It was a pleasure dining here and talking to them.
You know its a great Filipino restaurant if come-from-away Filipinos loved each and every single dish they ordered! The wide selection of dishes is unlike anything Ive ever seen, with a mix of traditional flavours and fusion, all in very fair prices for the unreal flavours and generous portions. Visited St. Johns from Toronto for a festival and I can honestly say Sinaing was one of THE best restaurants Ive ever had the pleasure of trying. My band mates and I tried the following: Tokwang Sisig (so frickin flavourful), Bulalo (very fresh and the broth was A+), Spinach Jackfruit dip with chips (got some Laing vibes!), Linguine with mussels (mind-blowing), Chicken Mami (hard to find in menus anymore but so good), Calamares (dat Calamansi aioli doeee), Kare Kare (tastes just like home wahh), both mussels flavours of Blackened Coconut (again: the frickin broth!! so good) and Ginger Garlic, and the Seafood Chowder. Getting fresh ingredients and a talented chef is obviously their recipe for success. The only bad thing was that we didnt have enough space in our bellies to try the mouthwatering desserts! Such great hospitality from the staff to make the experience even more magnificent. Congratulations, Sinaing! Hoping to visit one day again.
Such a great food experience....so flavorful.
Excellent Filipino food in a very nice atmosphere. They also have great tacos with a Filipino twist. The owner, pictured out front was a great host
I didn t expect to order a lot since I wasn t very hungry that day but seeing so many appetizing dishes and the waiter s description and insistence, I felt compelled to eat a lot which was actually a pretty good idea. The food was delicious and very filling.
We got excited to see a filipino resto in St Johns and for sure we didnt miss it. Yummy food! Anyone shld try it!
Wonderfull of crispy pork pata... Highly recomended... Thank you chef.
Delicious food and friendly staff. All five of us loved our meals. And so nice to find a patio open at dinner time! Vegetarian options: Several very tasty vegan and vegetarian dishes.

Satisfied all my cravings of filipino foods and dessert.awesome service a place to visit.
What a hidden gem! I say hidden but its in plain sight on Duckworth, but I didnt try it until recently despite walking past it for years. Dont do what I did - run do not walk to this awesome restaurant! The halo halo is a perfect treat for hot summer days and the various skewers of street food were delicious. They have a lovely little patio now as well.
This is the place to go if you want AUTHENTIC Filipino food. Furthermore, it is beautifully prepared, cooked to perfection, and plated nicely. And the service? Oh my! Is there a 6th star I can add? This place is great, and the value is unbeatable. Looking forward to my next visit.
Food is great!
Scrumptious and feels authentic Filipino food. The reason being I havent been to the Phillipines to tell you whether or not the food is authentic. Reasonably priced. The pork hock is a bit much for two. My partner really enjoyed the tuna and pork belly ceviche. Turons with ube ice cream is my favorite!
Great food. Fantastic service.
One of the nicest restaurants in town, the food was absolutely delicious and the lady working there was so friendly and told us all about the menu. We are definitely coming back! (Be sure to try the Hola Hola dessert it is scrumptious)
Visited for the first time last night. Great service and absolutely delicious foods!! (I will Recommend Crispy Pata)
I had the pleasure of eating here just the other day, and I have to say it was an amazing experience for me. The service was amazing and the attention to detail in the dish presentation was also great. Overall, I felt the hospitality, service and the flavours of the food deserved like 10-stars, but unfortunately I can only give 5! Highly recommend this place, and be sure to try something different, I dare ya!
Amazing and friendly service AND food. They went above and beyond and made my birthday lunch extra special by letting us order a couple of dinner menu items! Something for everyone here but you can go pretty exotic on the menu as well! I will be back!
Every single morsel of each course was absolutely fantastic! Waitress was so sweet. Food was served in a timely manner. Covid-19 restrictions were followed. Husband said it was the best dining hes had in years.
This is the best tasting Filipino food I ever tried. Very authentic, they even serve fear factor dish hahahaha, to Filipinos it s just another home cook meal. Everybody who works here are proud at what they do.
Beautiful looking food but tasted even better, the service was second to none. We were treated like kings and queens and we all left happy and full. Thank you for a great evening and a wonderful experience of the Filipino culture and food
Had the pork adobo sandwich; what a lunch! Be sure to have banana ketchup with your fries.
Really amazing food, great recommendations from the servers and they have a picture menu so you can get an idea of what you want to order!
