5 George St, St. John's, NL A1C 1H7, Canada
Casual pub offering Irish & Newfoundland fare along with frequent live music & several draft beers.
Made this our last stop on a late Saturday night in early October. Had a blast with the band which was playing traditional Newfie/Irish tunes mixed in with Canadian classics. Kinda surprised that the place was quite empty with the exception of a few cruise-ship folk. Beer was cold and the staff were nice. Can't remember, but I think we paid 5 or 10 bucks cover at the door. Well worth it to hear some trad music.
I'm not always looking for a bar like this, but whenever I find one, I'm always glad. Super friendly service, cold beers and tasty food. Can't really ask for more. The scallops on the appetizer menu were quite good.
Absolutely loved this place! Live music early in the night, lots of seating and spots at the bar, kitchen and bar staff were fast and very nice and they had lots of food/drink options. Their jiggs dinner pie was absolutely delicious, tasted just like my nanny's jiggs dinner just in pie form. Big chunks of salt beef which was delicious. Good price too. I will absolutely be returning next time I’m in St. John’s.
I went here for lunch with my family. The food and atmosphere was fine, but it took over an hour to get 4 burgers. With hungry and tired children, it was a bit of a nightmare. In summary - I wouldn't go back solely because the wait isn't worth the food.
It's a good place! Nice location and staff. They always have live music and the ambiente is really great. Love it. -1 star for the prices. non alcohol cocktails are 14$?! And burgers for around 30$ are way too expensive. -1 for the fries which where nearly cold for a 30$ burger.
This was our last night in St John's and we wanted to hit up a local pub downtown. Any food was phenomenal. My husband had the Jigg's Dinner Pie, and I got the Beef Dip. Fantastic! Great comfort food, hot and fresh. Service staff was great as well. To top it all off, there was live music.
We came to this restaurant on the historic George Street to hear live music and eat fish and chips. They delivered! The fish and chips were tasty, a good portion size. The appitizer I ordered (fish cakes) were more potato mash than fish and could have used more seasoning. Also, the wait for food was too long. We waited well over 45 minutes in an empty restaurant. Overall, the musician and food was good so I would recommend
Excellent music by Ron Kelly, great menu options and service on a Friday night in May. Consistent friendly welcome from Chico when he only sees us from out of town a few times a year. Food was delicious. Scallops, spinach salad and fish and chips with sweet potato fries. 3 salad options, lots of fish and shellfish and gluten free options on dinner menu.
The cod tongue appetizer consisted of a plate of lettuce and four tongues. I laughed out loud. The pan fried cod supper made up for it.
Let us keep a free cream and sugar nice outdoors and the ring of fire
Were a group of 20, (family get together) service was great and attentive. Had Salomon tacos, delicious!!
Jessica served us and the service was phenomenal made us feel welcome and quick service! Genuinely one of the sweetest people i ve ever met.
nice cozy pub .with live music
We came in late the other night hungry and in need of a cold beer! This special place did not disappoint! Cold iceberg beer hit the spot while we waited for our food! The lamb shepherds pie was great, hot and filling! The Jiggs dinner pie was also delicious and had those Sunday dinner flavours! The service was great along with the live music! We will be back!
Seafood chowder is the best I have ever had!!! Superb!!!!!
I was so excited to visit this cozy place with my husband and friends delicious food, cozy atmosphere, amazing staff thank you so much, you are the best
For my first in a pub in St Johns, great discovery.
Just popped in for a beer...first people in the place at 4:30pm.
Absolutely loved this place:) So we went again. Eldin was an all-around great entertainer. Martini was good :) Service : 5/5 |
Good place
Excellent food!
Great spot for music and a few cold ones!!
The staff were awesome. Entertainment was decent.
Just went in for drinks and music
They were getting set up for the big George St festival, so they werent exactly on the ball with service when we first walked in. Didnt have any food.
It s the last night of our honeymoon and we decided to pop into Bridie Molly s. The staff, atmosphere and food was great. I wish I heard of this place sooner. There s a lot of interesting bits of history here. Definitely worth checking out.
Classic pub in the heart of George street.
I used to love this place. Very over priced and quality is low. They use to make the best fish cakes years ago. Now it is like fried mashed potatoes on a bed of kraft tater sauce. Yuk.
Great place!
Early live music and children until 830pm.
Food was fantastic!
All restaurants and bars on George Street in st Johns nl. Has its own unique charm and music George Street is famous in St Johns and everyone who visits newfoundland and ends up here takes a visit to the bars food music and Newfie hospitality near Water St.
Unremarkable, and pricey for what you get
Friggin awesome. Great music, brews and food. Glenn is top notch. What an amazing dude.
Great pub atmosphere service great.
Empty on a Friday night. Food very expensive.
The fish was dry, the fries werent fresh. The table that we were at needed to be fixed.
great place .. live music .. energetic staff .. delicious food ) atmosphere is top notch ..
Amazing and friendly staff, great entertainment and I just loved this place out of all the little pubs I stopped into with my best friend/sister from another mother!
Was a fine pub, atmosphere wasnt amazing though. The live music picked up lster in the night, but was lackluster starting out. Over all seemed decent seating and the staff was friendly enough. Drinks seemed a bit pricey but that may be just since Im not used to st Johns pricing so take that with a grain of salt.
Great Burger. Cod tongues not the best. Great assortment of beers
Staff were sweet but food was garbage & pricey too
Amazing bartender at noon, she has only been there a few days, great personality and humour, I came from out of province and she made me feel at home, she is a keeper
Very good...lots of choices....great service....real nice atmosphere...definitely recommend.
What a lovely place to dine in! Cheerful staff, fast service, beautiful setting. I had the moose burger and it was everything I wanted and more. Rich and filling, super tasty. It paired well with the Guinness. This was a wonderful experience and worth the visit.
Group screeching...great entertainment!
It was empty and they shared kitchen with downstairs. It was over 1 hour since we placed our order and it might have been longer except I went to them to find our order. We had ordered lamb shepherd pie and there wasnt any meat. Only gravy.
The downstairs (Celtic Hearth) was busy so the waitress suggested we go upstairs, she brought us up to a table and gave us menus, she told another staff member that we were there and then she went back downstairs. We sat looking at the menu, picked out what we wanted and waited..... And waited..... And more waiting. Not one other server paid any attention to us, we were not looked at the whole time. We waited for 20 mins and then we left. The girl from Celtic Hearth was very nice but Bridie Molloys servers were very inattentive. (It was practically empty upstairs as well so not sure why the service was lacking) May try again sometime if I can score a table at Celtic Hearth as they seem to be wonderful.
Amber and Zach were the highlight of my trip - I went down to the Celtic Hearth with my wife for breakfast and I was told no, so I went up to Birdie Molloys and was immediately greeted by the most friendly and accommodating team Ive ever seen. Amber and Zach should own their own bar, theyre absolute beacons of positivity and great customer service.
Friendly service, great food!
Good restaurant. We had a nice meal.
Our life start here
Great food !!! Music & staff!!!
Great food and service!! They had live music for entertainment - folk country artist
Found the scallops dry and the salad lacking. Wouldnt recommend. Go for the atmosphere and friendly service when theres live music though!
I went there on Tuesday evening, a concert took place at 7 p.m. From what I understand, there are many artist performances in this bar/restaurant especially during the summer! The music was very very good ! The atmosphere in the bar was also great. The servers were friendly and took their time with us despite the crowds. So we had beers and nachos with spinach and cheese sauce. It was really good ! Vegetarian options: There are dishes without meat or fish
The singer was amazing, pasta not so much, the food took a lot of time to come out (I understand delays due to peak hours) THE ONE UNFORGIVABLE THING IS the waitress BEING racist to me and my wife as we were the only brown couple in the bar. Never going back again. Ps. We still tipped the person for their service Not gonna recommend to others
Best service and food!! Cleanest bathrooms in the downtown area
GOOD EATS Bridie Molloys offers the classic Irish Pub experience. The staff is friendly and the service is prompt and efficient. I was hoping for Cod Fish Cheeks (a St Johns specialty), but had to settle for Cod Tongues - very well cooked and delicious. The house salad was fresh, crisp and generous. They have a nice collection of tap and bottle beers. The only negative was the somewhat small portion of the Cod.
Kid-friendliness: Kids are welcome before 8:30p.
Great food! Loved the fish and chips. Great live music! Friendly staff...but could have been a bit quicker and more frequent with drink orders. Still a great atmosphere and would definitely go back!
Stopped in for a beer. Live music sounded good but LOUD. So loud in fact that we decided not to even have a beer. Menu was bar food, but on the pricey side. May try again overnext few days while in town.
My husband and I came here our first night in St. John s on our honeymoon. The building is beautiful, has a lot of character; as soon as my husband saw it we *had* to come in for drinks (we d already had dinner up the street). I don t know if the staff were maybe having a bad night or something (came around 6 PM Labour Day Monday), but we were truly made to feel as though our business wasn t wanted. We were asked if we wanted menus, we didn t know these would only be for food (not drinks / cocktails). I apologized and clarified that we just wanted drinks when the server came back + asked for a drink menu instead, she scoffed at me and said that wasn t available. My husband then asked about a craft beer on tap, to which the sever responded it s a beer. We ended up eventually coming up with a drink each to order, she got them, then shortly came back and told us what we owed her. We d barely taken a few sips. I am sure based on other reviews that experiences like ours aren t commonplace here (and I m sure it s an amazing space when there s a band / etc.), but this experience put a real damper on our evening.
Nice place in very famous in st George street
Smiling service, good choice of beer, and evening where people can come and sing with their guitar, very nice. On the catering side: the menu on the website no longer has anything to do with the updated menu (may have had to be adapted with COVID): it is now much more expensive (~20-25%) and much less choice! Too bad.
Amazing service and a great atmosphere for first time travellers to Newfoundland! Our server was Amber and she was a delight - went above and beyond for us to have a great experience dining there. Would 10/10 recommend and don t forget to order the cod tongues while you re there!
Great food and live entertainment. Unfortunately they were sold out of the pastry topping for the Jiggs Dinner Pie and did not tell us until it was served to us.
Waitress was awesome but food was average and overpriced unfortunately.
Bridie Molloys is an old pub with beautiful woodwork on the inside. I had French onion soup which was superb. The kitchen was a little slow in producing the food, but it was worth the wait.
Staff Christmas party here was beyond fantastic. The food and staff were such an amazing part of the night. Loved being there. Felt at home right away.
great live entertainment good selection of draft beers
We had THE most amazing visit! If you re lucky enough to be on George Street DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR! Bar hopping while in town found this place to have the best classic vibe, music and incredible service. WOW!
Clean business and nice atmosphere inside.
Great staff and atmosphere!
Had a lot fun. Staff was great, very clean. Lots of room to move around.
Had an adorable waitress! Super friendly. Great atmosphere.
Very chill vibes
Awesome night what a blast!!
Lovely Pub with excellent service and fantastic live music!!
Great music and staff.
Love the entertainment
I freaking loved this place! I was disappointed when I had to leave to get screeched in elsewhere, but we came back and finished the night off with great entertainment from Rugged Shores. Found out the doorman went to the same high school as my wife and I. Small world. Staff is very personable and the establishment is very cozy.
Had a great brunch. Reasonable price.
My favourite pub for food
Good food good atmosphere
Food wasnt the best for the cost. Fish was lacking flavor, fries werent homemade, the amount on your plate might have been enough for a child and the couple of draft I had were flat. We really cant see ourselves returning for a meal.
Live entertainment, good drinks, could have a better floor layout
Great drinks & great staff, Cheyenne is excellent to work with to host your next event or mixer!
Great food, fun Trivia night, a private event. Wed like to do this again. Staff was terrific.
Great pub grub and beer
Great selection of beers on tap, tasty food with good menu variety, friendly service.
Had a fantastic hearty meal. It was like Sunday supper at Grandmas house. Dauphin potatoes and Prime rib enough for two people.
Good food and friendly service.
Great food, great service.
The only whiskey they had was Jack Daniels. Not bad, but thats kind of silly for a bar right? Response to management 5/30: Hi, We came by this Monday (5/27) around 9pm. I dont remember the servers name, she was a nice older lady with short dark hair.
Great place to have a drink and reminisce with friends and family
They had great music and a very lively atmosphere.
A must place for food and service.
Hoof friendly pub
Went in on a rather dead night, there werent many people there but the music was spectacular! Menu was what you would typically expect from a pub. Unfortunately they were out of French onion soup but the turkey soup was good.
Great service, food and atmosphere
Good breakfast
Fish and chips were fantastic
Great food and reasonable pricing
They had a large table come in, so they did warn us. Our beer sat on the bar for 15 minutes so far. Probably gonna bail on it. Oh never mind, she is getting it now. Quick beer, settle up and move on. Singer was good though, shame they couldnt handle a table of 10 when. For context, theres a down stairs which is where he group went. The main floor is fairly empty.
Excellent entertainment... Good food... Just a bit pricey. We saw The Fine Lads. They were FANTASTIC. Highly recommend seeing them. The whole George Street experience was a ton of fun.
Decent meal at a reasonable price
Always a great time, with great food and staff
Quick, friendly service and great live music!
Nice atmosphere
Great live music and friendly staff. We had cod au gratin and a burger with fried, dressing, and gravy which were delicious.
Good food, great service, and a very funky atmosphere
Fantastic live music and their moose burger is absolutely delectable! Also a nice pint of Stella artois to finish the day and great service always full sent with a smile amazing truly and utterly!
Great music
Food was good, service was fantastic. Wanted to take away stars for drunken Norwegians but that wouldnt be fair to the establishment.
Good music and staff. Had a lot of fun
Always open and great service
Just ok
Wow the fish tacos and toffee pudding were amazing. Our waitress was excellent, gave us a few tips on what to see here in St Johns
Met the lovely Carol and Larry there this aft...
Great live band. Goodtime Charlie. Good food available all night.
Great fish and chips!
Good food. Good employees
Great Pub atmosphere, Good pub fare, good selection of beers.
Always a great place
Went to Bridie Malloys for the Christmas Hymns and Beer. Had so much fun!! Looking forward to the next Hymns and Beer.
Great food. I had the moose burger and my boyfriend had the steak and chips. Big portions. Bartender was a doll and ended up providing our table service as well. He was very nice and friendly. There was live music. Didnt just play classic jigs and the like, but a good variety of music. Folk songs, Springsteen, and more. I was steady singing. This was the second place we had gone into and this was better than the first, which charged cover and closed the kitchen at 10. So glad we ended up here.
Great food. Pretty quiet tonight though
4 of us paid cover on Friday 29th of June only to find out the entire out had only 1 beer on tap. We left after that 1 drink
Delicious food and pleasant staff
Fantastic!
I went with a group of people, it wasnt busy but the service was horrendous. There waitress was rude, the food was late, we had to go get more drinks ourselves at the bar. When we went to pay, she didnt even have half of our items on the list. For a warm, busy Friday night in tourist season, service like this will break a business like this.
Great bar and really good live entertaiment.
They were out of half the beers they said they stocked. The band spent more time off than playing. Very small crowd for a Saturday night. I wouldnt go again
Decent pub, service was ok. Kind of a bummer that they have a special George St. Festival menu with jacked up prices.
Wonderful service..wonderful meals would come back anytime!!
Always great!
We went on a Sunday night and it was fairly dead. The live entertainment was free. The musician was Andrew Freak and he asked for requests. We requested song after song. He is very talented and funny. He joined us after the set along with one of the staff for a good yarn. We heard about the place by having breakfast in their downstairs pub. It too was fantastic.
Great service. Moose burger is authentic true Newfoundland moose. I loved the restaurant and the great service offered.
Food was good. Quiet place for a Saturday night! Live band was good but played for 40 mins only before taking a quick break which lasted too long for us. Waitress on duty wasn t overly attentive and friendly as we expected!
Great food with great service! A++
First time moose and it was in a taco! So so good!
Nice atmosphere. Wonderful music.
Excellent all around except a little overpriced.
