2 Hill O' Chips, St. John's, NL A1C 1A2, Canada
The meal was outstanding. Fresh and homemade pasta. The meatballs sauce is not spaghetti but more braised shortrib sauce and had to have bread to sop it up. The homemade ricotta tasty. Came back for breakfast every morning while we stayed at the hotel. Best breakfast at a Hilton ever.
Love the place, delicious food and great service. Daria and Olena were very professional and friendly. Highly recommend checking out the restaurant.
I went on a Monday evening, and it felt like a Friday/Saturday night! The service was amazing, the food was delicious. Beautiful views of the harbour and a nice relaxed atmosphere. We will definitely be back! (The tables are so nicely spaced too!)
I had a number of amazing experiences dinning at the Little Sparo for breakfast. The ingredients are high quality and delicious. Our waitress was super attentive and kind, and the overall atmosphere was great. The view from the restaurant is fantastic, overlooking St. John’s harbour. It can be a little pricy for breakfast, but if that’s not an issue for you, definitely check this place out! P.S. the jam that they serve with the bread is AMAZING!!
The restaurant decor is bright and modern with a comfortable and laidback vibe, our server was wonderful and most importantly the food was absolutely delicious!
This place is a gem. General manager Fabio has made an inviting environment, great menu with delicious specials, and nice wines. We had brunch and dinner on one day: a big plate breakfast and special pulled pork that would fly in Texas. Dinner was a special halibut stuffed pasta over pureed eggplant, accompanied by a nice white wine from Tuscany. Dessert of basil-infused lemon sorbet was outstanding, as well as chocolate "salami", a dense tort. In 3 wonderful days of his food in Newfoundland, these were the best meals.
So the apps came and were amazing. I usually don't enjoy scallops but really enjoyed them here. In house made pasta and such great service. Fabio the manager is like no other. His hard work is shown in the quality of the place. Definitely a must try
As we were staying at the Doubletree hotel, we ventured down for breakfast in the restaurant in the lobby. We were quickly seated and coffee was immediately offered. Coffee was quite good and also given a bottle with water. It wasn’t too busy yet but we did see it was full on other days. The menu is limited and we went with the Breakfast sandwich plate ($19.00) and the Bacon Jam Eggs Benedict ($23.00). While we waited a very reasonable amount of time for order to be prepared, we enjoyed the view of the Harbour from their big windows. He thoroughly enjoyed his sandwich plate which was hot and fresh tasting. For my part, the Benedict eggs were prepared soft as I like them but was nowhere near the eggs Benedict I’m familiar with. It wasn’t bad or awful tasting but wasn’t for me though I did eat it. The homefries were crisp and the fruit bowl was fresh. Service was great, seating was comfy. The restaurant and washroom are tastefully decorated and clean.
I had the best meal ever. Service was fabulous.
I have only had great experiences here. The food tastes great, and the staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommended for a nice Italian experience.
So disappointed with the evening s experience. We three ladies were to celebrate one of our birthdays after not seeing each other for months. Our server told us five times during our 6:00 sitting that our table was reserved for 8:00 and that we could be sat at the bar once they arrived. We were rushed through our meal (people even attempting to take an appetizer that was still being eaten) and at 7:55 were told the new reservation had arrived and were waiting. We had a reservation as well and should not have been rushed. The restaurant lost out out on a bill that could have easily been twice as much as we paid (we didn t even feel welcome enough to have dessert at 7:30 as were told that the 8:00 reservation would be arriving). There were two empty tables next to us that could ve been placed together to possibly accommodate the 8:00 (instead we were told we could move to the bar).
Worst margarita pizza I ever had... was hoping to be very authentic Italian... it was a sloppy tasteless mess. My wifes soup was great and business associate had a burger which seemed ok. Service was average, new hire so we were patient with her inexperience. She didnt know how to deal with a food complaint so being Canadian we didnt make much of a deal about.
Appetizer was okay. Mains were flavorful. Dessert, which looked completely different from the description was bland, and served with a lady finger that was old. The dessert itself was cookie crumbs (Oreo) on-top of whipped cream? The restaurant itself was nice though. Disappointing otherwise.
We booked weeks in advance of our NL trip and asked for a table by the windows but we were seated facing the kitchen with my view being the staff hanging around the kitchen (they told us window tables are for larger groups). Food was not cooked properly (lady at next table sent her s back). Staff are ok but not trained/experienced servers. This visit actually makes me appreciate other restaurants more. This is an expensive hotel restaurant so don t expect fine dining .
Excellent pasta and appetizers, best lemon chello I ever had, amazing restaurant Manager and food was so flavourful
Great service over priced in my opinion.
This experience was the worst I have encountered in many many years. Started off with 1) They failed to find our reservations. 2) When we walked in it took them a little while to even acknowledge us 3) the gentleman who supposedly was greeting guests told me don t touch me when I lightly put my hand on his arm (like I ve done a million times to other folks) just to de-escalate the situation 4) The GM intervened (thank God) and tried his best to find us a table. 5)After 20 they did! A nice one with a view of the harbour. As I had originally requested. 6) I think the waiter did his best given the circumstances. At least he was patient and understanding. That was a very positive vibe. 7) My food was lukewarm. Not piping hot. As it Should be. 8) We stayed past their closing time to make up for all the lost time with our friends who were visiting NL for the first time and had literally just gotten off the plane after travelling 6000 kms!!. This was such an embarrassing and insulting experience that I hope no one will ever have to go through. I hope they make diversity training mandatory for ALL of their staff and educate them on the value of GOOD customer service. The only reason we had fun was that we were having dinner with old friends that we haven t seen in many years and I did my best to ignore the inadequacies of this restaurant. While we wish them success in years to come. This was an embarrassment for this City in peak tourist season. Oh and did I mention that our friends were guests at the Double Tree hotel that this restaurant is situated in? Oh and BTW I have worked at several top notch restaurants in some of Canada s largest cities.
amazing food and service, they messed up an order but dealt with it incredibly quick and gave us a discount for the inconvenience, no complaints whatsoever
Incredible place. Highly recommend. All the food was made in house, even the sourdough bread! Incredible views of the harbour, and comfortable and spacious seating. Truly wonderful and gifted staff!
We had a great experience at the restaurant last night! Tried a lot of new things, pizza was perfect, drink were cold! If you visit, try the Mozzarella balls!
Have loved every experience we have had at the Little Sparo! The food is always delicious, top notch service and the views and atmosphere are amazing! Highly recommend!!
Great food great view
Went in tonight at 6:00 on a Tuesday without a reservation. Only one other table had customers. We were sat next to a wall facing kitchen and the evening sun was in my face. We asked if we could sit at another table and the hostess told us they were fully booked. My husband went online and immediately reserved a table. We told the hostess that we just reserved a table online as there was ample availability. She told us we could have a table in the lobby bar. We said that wasn t good enough as the place was empty and asked to speak to manager. The manager said as my colleague said we are booked but could give a corner table by the window. That table was fine but it was not what his colleague offered us. We then felt enough crap had occurred over a simple table that we left. Not cool. Here next door at the Vu with a view on the harbour and quite happy. Get your act together little sparo. We are frequent diners and won t be going back anytime soon. Train your staff better than this.
Had a really nice time visiting The Little Sparo this past weekend. The location is quite nice, well laid out, quiet and comfortable dining experience. Drinks were tasty and sourdough bread is a nice starter. Our mains (risotto and a pizza shared) were just avg to be honest, the pizza was nothing to write home about and the risotto was good but not overly warm/hot. Pricing is on par with other mid-priced options in the area, probably too expensive for what we got but thats the norm these days. I enjoyed it but wont rush back.
IHOR was super nice and friendly. I actually live in THE USA and it was my first time here. Really enjoyed having a drink And yhr bartender IHor was a pleasant person to chat with.
Great fresh pasta. Pizza was excellent, and our table had 3 different pasta dishes all amazing. Wish we had room for dessert.
Really nice time yesterday at Little Sparo, Ben our server was very polite and very attentive and professional. The staff are very welcoming and very friendly. The atmosphere and ambiance of the restaurant is beautiful set near the water, overlooking the boats breath taking. The food top notch service, presentation well done. High quality food ingredients used brought out the flavors of the eash of the dishes we had. Will definitely be back.
There was a man sitting at the bar who appeared to be the boss, or at least someone who had something to do with the running of the place. He asked staff members about other staff members, and everyone I saw him speak with gave off bad vibes. Nary a smile and very uncomfortable looking. While the food was good, the atmosphere gave me a very bad feeling. I definitely wouldn t recommend it.
Friendly staff and good vibe and food
A touch too expensive for what you get with a server that was a little unaware. French toast was great, Sparo breakfast was just ok with overcooked eggs (read hard yolk) and over salted hashbrows. Jam that came with the toast was awful , good bread though.
Excellent food and service! Fabio is a great host!
This hotel restaurant was an unexpected pleasure and turned out to be our finest eating experience in St Johns. Fabio, the manager, also made it very special.
Had dinner here and the food was authentic, fresh and delicious. From plating and presentation to taste, this place does it right. The service was also outstanding and very attentive. Would absolutely eat here again!
The fact this place only has 4.1 stars is a crime! One of the best restaurants in St. John s.
I had brunch here with my friends. Food was great, service was fast and attentive. I tried their eggs Benedict and they were one of the best I tried in St Johns. We also ordered their toutons, highly recommend!! Overall, thats a good place with a beautiful view. Will definitely come back to try their dinner menu as well
I ate at the bar and received bad service, not sure if it s the norm here but for what I normally receive at other hotels it is well below par. I do t recommend getting food at bar. Maybe just drinks is fine but you ll be waiting for water or a menu for 15-20 mins
Delicious food and great atmosphere
The General manager and the staff are Amazing!! We have been here for a few days and have been WOWED by the Service - which always makes the food taste better!! Other is chosen because we have had All times of day/night. Thk U!!
The food is fresh, delicious and different then anything else in the city. The service and decor are top notch! Would definitely recommend ~ especially for date night!
Just had breakfast. Prices are a little high... the food was good. The service was great,,the View is great!!! Lauren our server was very helpfull
The best steaks in NL!!! Our must-order every time, everything else is okay.
The food service and atmosphere is great in the mornings. The gentleman made great espresso which helped me adjust to the time change. The included breakfast for diamond is in my top list for free hotel breakfasts. My experience for dinner was not nearly the same level of service from my server. Food was great, scallops and beef tartare delicious, but I wish the server was more attentive, energetic, enthusiastic.
We chose The Little Sparo to celebrate our 5th anniversary. It was an amazing choice. The ambiance was lovely. Great big windows created a brightness and highlighted the view of the harbour. Tables are set far enough apart that you dont feel cramped which is fantastic. The food was delicious! No, I mean DELICIOUS! The GM, Fabio, really created the perfect beginning to our evening by sending us a complimentary glass of bubbly. The other thing that truly made our evening was our server, Dima. He was the perfect combination of professional yet friendly along with sublime attentiveness. Thank you for making our special event even better. It was our first visit to your restaurant but it certainly wont be the last. Thank you Fabio. Thank you Dima. Thank you Sparo.
Good food, amazing coffee, great views.
We had the NYE menu and it didnt disappoint. Food was really great, and the portions were reasonable (not oversized as you so often get). Service was very pleasant and quick, without being too rushed. Parking: You need either the indigo neo app and account or pay at the machine outside. When I was there the machine didnt work and the app wouldnt accept my province for the license plate, so I guess I got free parking.
Went there for the first time for NYE dinner, it was a nice atmosphere but the food was very frustrating. Dietary restrictions: they accommodated my diet restrictions.
Excellent food and service. I look forward to our next visit
The atmosphere is spot on. Their scallops could taste less like old oil. Their food never really impresses me compared to their high prices
Great meal and atmosphere. Our table didnt seem available but the server figured something out quickly. Chili oil & chilly flakes go hand in hand with Italian cuisine so a great addition would be to offer those when pizza is ordered. Food
Not great Bring a coat, it s freezing inside. Service is slow, food is not worth the price. It seems they just throw everything in a bowl. I went for breakfast and diner. I had eggshells in my eggs and sand on my pizza.
We went to the little sparo for the Valentines dinner menu and there were 6 of us. The drinks were delicious and I loved the option of Italian soda for the non-alcoholic option. The food was unreal, flavours were delicious and food presentation was lovely! Will come again for sure.
While some of the dishes were delicious, the pizza was just okay. This is a very expensive restaurant. Parking: The parking spaces in the underground garage are very tight. Make sure to go down enough levels where fewer people park.
Their food is good except for the pizza
The last time I visited this place, it was called Rumplestilskins.......this place isnt Rumplestilskins! Very fresh, open and modern decor add to the dining experience. The server was very attentive and knowledgeable re the questions we had about the menu. The view was second to none! The only issue I must mention is the small menu lends itself to a lack of alternative dining needs. It was difficult to find anything low carb and gluten free. Having said that, the lamb cavatelli I chose was perfectly spiced and buttery soft; amazing! As well, my wife thoroughly enjoyed her rigatoni bolognese.... prepared to order is very evident! We will definitely be visiting again!
The server was very nice and professional, the food was tasty ( I had risotto and gelato for dessert) but when I came home after dinner, I felt very sick, I got food poisoning and was struggling the whole evening. My guess is that probably the issue is in the poor kitchen hygiene..
Ive been here for breakfast & supper and both times were underwhelming. Both times the food was flavourless, overpriced, & with tiny portions. My appetizer (mussels) was larger & better than my main, my friends & I were served warm beer, & the desserts were all bland. For the amount youre paying Im surprised theres no side included. The server was great & very attentive. The view is amazing
Fantastic location; had both lunch and weekend brunch here, delightful.
Great food really nice people working here.great views of st.johns
Tyler the bartender creates some amazing drinks. His strawberry peppercorn gin fizz drink was
One of our fav spots in town. The best food and atmosphere and the service is always so charming! Food
The food is very good. Its a little bit expensive but it can be explained by the quality of the ingredients. I went there for breakfast and for dessert at night. Service in inconsistent. Sometimes its fast and sometimes its slow The dessert was the chocolate hazelnut cake, probably one of the best desserts I ate in my life!
Great meal. Highly recommend the mussels, make sure you order sourdough as well. Pizza was fantastic as well. Service was top notch.
I am able to eat in a cool place in a quiet atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and the food was very tasty. Highly recommend the margherita pizza and steak.
We had breakfast and dinner here while staying at the Doubletree. Both meals were excellent. The servers we had were super friendly and very professional. Highly recommend the pan seared scallops and strawberry spinach salad.
Visiting from BC, Stayed at the Hilton. Food was absolutely terrible, Carbonara was dry and flavourless The margarita pizza was tasteless! Worst food we had in Newfoundland! Service was nice
Small brunch menu but each choice is incredibly well done. I highly recommend the Mushroom Tartine. The decor is wonderful, and the sunroom provides unobstructed views of the harbour and signal Hill. 10/10 Food
I was enticed by the Bavette steak they advertise on the DoubleTree QR code in the room, but when you get to the restaurant they tell you that the food on the website isnt accurate anymore and that they cant update it for some bogus reason, but that they have a steak substitute for double the price!! Then I took the burger instead. My goodness!!?? Ok it was tasty; but small! Although, was it laced with gold? How can you justify charging $28 for this. Then after. To add to the insult and continue the ongoing heist, the server offers me dessert which he says now we have all the items on the menu. So I pick the tiramisu.... then he comes back moments later to tell me that the tiramisu is no more available. So very disappointed I opted for the Gelato. Major disappointment!!! Maybe they should research what gelato is!! Its supposed to be creamy and rich, not watered down tasteless ice cream for $9.00!! the only good thing I have to admit, Nice view. Anyway never again to this restaurant which might compromise my pick for this hotel altogether, although very comfortable. Reason is, I like to sometimes dine in at the hotel or have room service after a long day of work.
Amazing! Reserved a table, seated right away. Given water as soon as we sat down. Drinks came almost immediately after ordering. Appetizers were delicious and came out very fast and warm. Had the 10oz ribeye and Carbonera, food was 10/10. Steak was extremely tender and well seasoned. Waitress Sarah was amazing and fun to chat with! Couldnt recommmend more for a night out! Vegetarian options: vege and gf options Dietary restrictions: says to ask about any restrictions on menu! Parking: parking garage is very narrow Wheelchair accessibility: available
Great food and service. However it was pricy and rather noisy. However, I enjoyed my meal considerably. Wheelchair accessibility: I don t have a wheelchair, but I do use a Rollator and was quite comfortable using it.
Awesome food and a great place to stay
Limited lunch menu. Attentive service.
We went to the restaurant bar tonight for a drink. We sat at the bar for 10 minutes and no one acknowledged us. Walked by us but like we were invisible. So we left. Terrible service
The food was wonderful, really enjoyed the scallops and pork belly appetizer, as well as the pizza I had for my main. The restaurant was pretty and spacious. The staff was friendly and helpful as well. The reason I m only giving it two stars was the noise. We were across from the bar area and the noise from dishes clattering and glasses clinking seemed to be amplified, as the staff stacked them or sorted them. The noise was such that you could only hear the person right next to you (there were six of us). We gave up trying to talk to the ones furthest away. The waiter said it was the least noisy area, but I doubt it. The other reviews don t mention the noise.
Tyler was incredible made us feel so welcome and was there with a smile even being so busy, great service, first time visit and will definitely be back!!! Thank you Tyler !
Oh my, amazing pizza to die for. Thank you
Honestly, really disappointing. I had been looking forward to eating here for a while. We went for brunch and it was extremely expensive for serving us store bought hash browns and bread soaked in butter. The Caesar was made with V8 and they couldnt do mimosas because they didnt have sparkling wine. Wont come back, we can make a better brunch at home.
This restaurant overlooking the harbour in St. Johns, provides a hearty breakfast to start the day. Prices are reasonable and staff friendly.
Gorgeous place to eat and very delicious food. As it is connected to a hotel, the prices are quite high - recommend sharing a dew plates with friends and you ll likely spend ~130 dollars. Went here for an anniversary and experienced a lot of judgement and homophobia from other patrons, staff were very friendly!
Brilliant!! One of the best restaurants in St. Johns hands down! Everything was absolutely delicious from start to finish!! Highly recommended! Food : 5/5 |
Excellent food. Incredible service. 100% recommend. Best restaurant I have been to in a while. We come from away and felt welcomed and like we belonged. Atmosphere was perfect and view was great, even at night.
I cant express enough how wonderful this place is. This is our first time in St. Johns and Fabio received us with the warmest of welcomes and made sure we were comfortable and satisfied throughout the entire experience. The hospitality, the food, the staff were all top tier. An amazing wrap up to our visit!
Good
It was much too cold to enjoy anything.
My pizza crust was very doughy was caked with sesame seeds, weird and not authentic. Maybe if it was a bagel? Sour dough was cold and stale as **** . Tuna tartare was so good and the service was great, as well as the atmosphere.
I didnt go there, just parked nearby
Took 1 hour for the pizza to come to our table. Usually it takes 20-30 minutes elsewhere. The place was too dark in the evening, need a little lighting. The pizza dough was a little odd and didnt cut thoroughly. The tiramisu was perfect
It wasnt great. The tartare and house made ricotta apps were good. The olives were just a bowl of warmed up olives without much other flavor. Carbonera pasta with chanterelles didnt work for me. The earthy flavor of the mushrooms clashed with the carbonera sauce. Parmesan was individual flakes when it needs to be part of the sauce IMO. Duck pasta was pretty much flavorless. Might have been saved by proper seasoning, maybe? Nice room, great service, fun cocktails but not the level of meal youd expect for the price.
Great food but always understaffed
Could not recommend this restaurant enough! The view and ambiance was lovely, the food was incredible and fresh, and the service was incredible. We truly enjoyed our evening. We will definitely be back.
Great food, yet service was EXTREMELY slow!
Some of the staff are incredible. Nice place nice view
Nice views of the Harbour and good food. Expensive for what you get.
The room itself and view are the highlights of this dining experience. Our food was underwhelming and the kitchen wasnt very flexible with regards to some minor substitutions. The pizzas for the price point were disappointing. Id suggest coming for a cocktail and the view but dining somewhere else.
I stayed at DoubleTree while in Town for a funeral. After a busy day, starved, I went back to the hotel and while passing through the lobby, I could smell deliciousness. I asked the hostess about closing time and was informed it was 20 minutes away. Disappointed, I thanked her and was ready to go to my room. I can get you a table if you d like she said. Bucatini Carbonara and a rum was my response. Sat at a nice table overlooking the harbour, fireplace alongside, jazzy music playing. Within seconds I had my drink. My meal was prepared and tabled in less than 15 minutes. Despite the poor picture, plating was beautiful. Most importantly, the taste fantastic! Perfect actually. Service was perfect as well. I appreciate being served as such on a late arrival. Highly recommended. I will be back next time I m in Town.
Had a wonderful meal with the family
High end food, not for me, beautiful view
I made a reservation on OpenTable for five people at 7 PM tonight for my birthday. I show up with friends and family and am alerted by the host that the kitchen is closed and they are only doing bar service for tonight. The host acknowledged that he could see my reservation on their system and advised that he didn t know why I wasn t called. Not good enough.
Had a great breakfast when we stayed at Double Tree, St. Johns
Servers are 10/10, tasty cocktails features jus need to tweak that food menu
It can not be worse Really .. rude service and poor quality food Leaving the hotel because of them Stay away
Service and food was great
The pizza I had a Little Sparo is literally the best pizza I have ever had! :D Keep up the good work.
In fairness, this review is not in response to the food, as I did not wait around to try it. I can appreciate and understand if a restaurant is busy or short staffed, however this was not the case. After deciding on what to order within the first 5 minutes of being there, I waited and waited the server finally came around with water at the 25 minute mark. I asked for a slice of lemon, which came with a side of attitude. Expecting for her to return shortly after to take my order, I then continued to wait another 15 minutes had passed and she still did not return, despite me trying to get her attention. What made me decide to FINALLY leave was when I saw her begin to take an order from a table of 6 people that arrived more then 40 minutes after me. Not sure if me being a solo diner was not worthy of her time or attention, but the whole experience was off putting to say the least. In retrospect, I should thank the server for her complete disregard and indifference toward my patronage and business. As I was still hungry, I walked 10 minutes down Duckworth Street to Piatto Pizzeria + Enoteca, where the service was fantastic and I had the most delicious food.
Place is not that great. I had the salmon with skin on. It was mostly muscles in white wine cream sauce. The Arugula was wet. You shouldn t serve arugula wet. Huge mushrooms came in the pasta that my daughter ordered. Mushrooms should be bite sized at best. Chef needs to figure out better direction for each dish. Vegetarian options: Pasta Selection
Great drinks, the food was pretty good too!
Nice quiet place to have dinner with friends. Great food although the menu is a trifle limited if you dont eat pizza or pasta.
Fantastic dishes with an Italian theme. Loved every meal Ive eaten here. Great atmosphere as well. Only issue -- we did book one night, and even got a confirmation, and arrived to find the restaurant closed. Triple check your reservations.
Let me say first that my poor rating is not related to the food or ambience inside the restaurant. Food was good and view at our corner table was absolutely beautiful !! The major disappointment was learning while paying the bill tipping was not an option - 18% was already added to our bill with no option not to pay at all or pay at a reduced amount. I am a person who regularly tips however I am passionate about being the decision maker in it and by what amount. Our server was average/slightly below average; notwithstanding this I would have still tipped (probably in the 10% range.) However as mentioned I had no choice in the matter and in paying the over $80 tip it left a very sour taste in my mouth. As a result likely will not make a repeat visit anytime soon. To the chefs, great work in preparing very enjoyable dishes.
service was slow but food was great!
Food, Service and Ambiance Excellent!
Incredible food and outstanding service. I can t wait to go back to try more of the menu!
Look into the head chef is before supporting this restaurant.
First class Italian cuisine made in house. Breakfast menu starting ~April 7
The staff was very friendly and helpfull to understand the menu.the overall experience was excelance and the food was very delicious.
First of all the service was above exceptional. The food however (New Years eve) was absolutely terrible. The octopus for one of our appetizers was good. The salmon and pizza were horrible as well as the two desserts we had. Will never go back.
Delicious! We ate the Bucatini al Limone (lemon pasta) and malfandine bolognese (bolognese sauce on ribbon pasta). Cleared our plates. Ended with delicious desserts of the hazelnut chocolate mousse cake and custard meringue tart. Service was pleasant and the views were lovely. Lots of light.
Fantastic vibe and service. Doug was our server and gave us a fantastic experience.
Tonight we experienced one of the most exceptional meals we had in a very long time. In terms of experiences this is the type of quality and service that we should expect from a high quality restaurant but dont often get. Not only was the service and attention to detail highly professional but the beauty of every part of the meal made my head spin, and to me flavour is everything. Each of us had a different main and all were of the highest standard. Each element, whether pasta or seafood or appetiser was cooked to perfection. But equally important was that we were made to feel as though we mattered. This is definitely a place that anyone should make a point of visiting, often. This is the third time weve been here and every time the experience was identical. High quality on every front with a bright and welcoming environment with lots of natural light. Exceptional!
What an absolutely beautiful meal we had this evening. Going over previous reviews I m astounded at the negatives, but to each his own. If you have never been to this restaurant give it a try and judge for yourself. The service was over the top efficient, pleasant and not snooty. Each dish presented to the four of us was perfect, incredibly flavourful and delicious...honestly I could eat the lemoni pasta for days, paired with perfect dry packed scallops that were so sweet they tasted like they had just come out of the water. So nice to see a high end restaurant in St. John s live up to that level, as mostly you are taking your chances on occasion. We have eaten at The Little Sparo three times, each was consistently exceptional. Love the light and open decor and gorgeous view. Keep up the good work , and thank you. !!!!
We went down for supper for the first time at the Sparrow. Place looked great and good vibes inside. Views were spectacular. Service was helpful and timely. We shared some plates and enjoyed them all. Great value for our evening. We will be back!
My visit was disappointing. I ordered Toast with butter and preserves . The toast arrived without butter or preserves and it was overly toasted (borderline burnt) and cold. I asked for butter and preserves and instead of bringing the delicious whipped butter and preserves, they brought me little containers of cold and hard butter and cheap jam (not preserves). Three members of my party were supposed to receive English muffins and instead received the same cold, overly toasted, and completely unbuttered bread. Nobody at my table enjoyed their meal. We expressed this to the table and they did not provide a solution or seem to care much. I don t think I ll be going back.
Great restaurant with friendly staff. Went to celebrate our anniversary and started out with complementary champagne. Both our waitress and floor manager (maybe) were excellent. They came by just enough to not interrupt but make sure we were all set. The pizzas seemed expensive but we were quite pleased by the size and taste.
Service could be better had to ask for think 2 to 3 times
I was honestly disappointed, the place is nice and simple and with the name you would expect good simple Italian food instead you get dishes that appear to be ashamed of Italian simplicity adding extra ingredients for the sake of adding something new rather than adding to the dish. There is a massive overuse of sourdough, while their bread is ok since it is so heavily featured in the appetizers and mains (at least on our menu since it changes) things began to feel sameish. The biggest complaint I have is that these two things covered up what was good, the pasta is cooked extremely well and the flavours of what the base recipe is is excellent but its marred by trying to push it further, it really just jumps the shark. Its a shame, st.johns could really use a good Italian place that just does simple traditional Italian country side cooking well but thats something sparo seems to embarrassed to do
Fantastic food. Try the Halibut :) Delicious
12oclock reservation. Started late only went down hill from there. Ran out of lattes, Ran out of orange juice. Manager Ran to the store got some for us. Ran out of eggs. Waited over an hour for food . Had eggs Benny. Cold hollandaise, cold eggs . Eggs were wrong consistency asked for soft came medium. cold potatoes ,hot sausage. Too hungry to wait any longer.Seated at end of restaurant close to hotel check in. Music a little loud hard to hear conversation at table. Apologies accepted. 50 % Discount on bill. We will try again at a later date . Reasonable prices. Great view of the harbor
Beautiful place. Nice atmosphere over looking the harbor. Check them out you will love it
My dirty martini was a disaster but every other part of the meal was terrific.
The food was pretty good though I found the Margarite pizza we had as an appetizer was doughy. Had the rib eye which was pretty good but at a healthy price of $49. Wait staff were friendly but learning. Noise was a bit on high side as its tile and not much sound damping. Overall pretty decent though not my style due to noise. I would go back but not in a hurry.
Excellent staff and manager Excellent pizza , pasta, steak and sourdough focaccia bread with butter and garlic chilli oil. Cocktails were excellent made by Tyler We felt like home and were very warmly welcomed by manager Doug on our first night of dinning and every day. I highly recommend this restaurant for food and cocktail and breakfast
My favorite resturant in town !
There for breakfast this morning. The wait staff were very pleasant and polite. The food was excellent and very tasty. The dessert donuts were fantastic. So much better and tastier than Tims
Food was great but poor service
Went last night. Service was terrible. Took 3 hours to complete our meal. Only brought one jug of water for 6 people, slow on the refills. Didnt come back to check to see how the food was. Considering the price it was pretty atrocious. Ran out of limes, charged us for items we didnt order. Ive had better service at a sports bar.
The best ribeye steak Ive ever eaten! Highly recommended.
Had the steak and it was a little under done for medium rare but delicious. Keep in mind this was the Saturday before Xmas and although the server tried his best they were seriously understaffed. We waited a super long time for our mains and desserts. It took over an hour for us to get our bills, which was a first for me. It was also extremely loud and dark. Not many additions to the menu so make sure you like what is on offer. No bread for the table which was astounding for an Italian place and the serving sizes for the pasta and risotto were very small for a main. Dont think I will be back despite the tasty steak.
Fantastic food, service and atmosphere
Excellent service and by far the best pizza and pasta in the city.
We had a great meal with really great service
Fantastic service, amazing food!
Excellent Italian fair. Finally we have real Italian dishes to enjoy in the city. Respectable wine list as well
Fantastic food, amazing cocktails and friendly service. I really cant recommend this place enough. The quality to which the food was prepared is truly second to none. Great job and please, keep up the amazing work!
A very nice Italian themed dinner
Amazing meal. The decor creates an elegant and relaxed atmosphere (along with the spectacular view across the waterfront and the narrows), but the food is the real star. Perfectly created simple takes on classic Italian dishes, with a good selection, but nothing over the top. My new favourite place in town.
Before you dine here... please look into who the head chef is....
Food is exceptional, service & staff are fantastic, atmosphere and view are great. Highly, highly recommend. Awesome cocktails too.
If you enjoy real Italian plates this is the place for you from start to finish. So much time and care put into each item on the menu. The dishes are exceptional while still honoring the Italians love for simple and fresh. Great service. A welcomed addition to the city!
Great service, very good food and nice atmosphere! Definitely worth a repeat!
Look into who the head chef is before supporting this establishment.
Delicious Italian food, great cocktails and lovely atmosphere!
Amazing food, service and atmosphere!! 10/10
Had the pleasure of dinning at your restaurant a few days ago with a visiting relative. Both of us have experienced good cuisine all over the world and this experience was second to none. Top notch service, a very relaxing atmosphere and the food was awesome! I will be returning this weekend to try it again as I enjoyed it so much. Its nice to have an excellent Italian themed restaurant here in St. Johns! Cheers!
Terrible service. Unorganized, pompous, arrogant, ignorant staff that think they are in some posh, Italian restaurant. Atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired. Food is quite good. They have a lot to learn. Good luck to them.
My husband and I had a fabulous evening at The Little Sparo. The service was excellent. The food was delicious. It was actually so hot and fresh when it was served to us that it made me realize that dining experiences in other restaurants have been truly inferior. The food AND drink selections were awesome and we really felt like we were in Italy (except for the *lovely* view of St. Johns harbour). We cant wait to go back!
Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Overall a very enjoyable experience. Good quality, authentic tasting italian foods. We will definitely return.
