Casa Amigos Restaurant NL in St. John's

The menu on the website is wrong. We went based on the posted menu online. What should have been a $26 nachos (Amigos Nachos) became $42 during the HST holiday and there were definitely no layers as advertised. Online menu shows meat, salsa, guac and sour cream are included. In the restaurant, it was $23 + meat ($6 or $7) + $6 or $7 for guac and again extra for sour cream. We paid to add both meats and guac. If we got 50 cents worth of chicken, I d be shocked. The ground beef was dried out and spicelsss but there was a load of it. It was literally awful. Total waste of money and minuscule portions. If you re hoping this business has taken over the gap Zapatas left behind, it doesn t. It s nothing remotely comparable. It s just the same location. Salsa was basically tasteless. The guacamole was weird and didn t have any garlic. Online menu cannot be trusted. Small portions. I won t be back.

I took my girlfriend here for her birthday and our food was absolutely delicious. Our server Daria was super nice and friendly. The price and portions were great. We highly recommend coming here.

I will never forget the Supreme service here brother - I honestly forget the tacos because the drinks and the service was so great and its been so long but Im sure if I had tacos they were great too The bartender here is just awesome

Absolutely loved it! It was a chill Monday night (evening before we flew home to Calgary) but it was a lovely cozy atmosphere. They greeted us with complimentary chips and salsa which we loved. We both had two Palomas and Birria tacos with the special house chili oil sauce (not to miss!) was truly delicious and the service was lovely.

Went for lunch, service was excellent from the moment we walked in. Server was knowledgeable with the menu and gave many recommendations! Food was excellent, highly recommended and I will go back in the future.

We had an amazing experience at Case Amigos! The food was absolutely delicious. What made our visit even better was the outstanding service from John. He was attentive, friendly, and made us feel so welcome throughout the entire meal. To top it all off, John surprised us with complimentary coffee, which was the perfect way to end a fantastic dining experience. I cant recommend Case Amigos enough great food, excellent service, and a wonderful atmosphere. Easily the best Mexican food to be found in St. Johns.

What a wonderful night! Food was delicious and we didnt have to wait long. Margaritas are soooo tasty. Ordered the Mexican Flag and couldnt finish it; all the sides were amazing! Servers were friendly. Abel was very knowledgeable. Priced well as you get great portions. Definitely recommend!

Had the fajitas skillet with the NY striploin, and it was without a doubt the best I ve ever had.

Had the Mexican Flag. I think it was premade and warmed over - the enchiladas were soggy and gross.

Food was exceptional. I got the burrito, and my wife got the mexican flag. Wish we had come here earlier in the week so we could eat here again.

If your thinking this maybe similar quality and deliciousness to Zapatas you will be sadly disappointed. The food was bland and the guacamole definitely not house made .Unfortunately very disappointing .

Expectations were admittedly pretty low/mid for Mexican food in Newfoundland, but! Everything was very good! The margaritas are perfect! The nachos were suitably enormous and generously loaded with great toppings (although would prefer less sauce on the chicken the seasoning/sauce is reminiscent of BBQ sauce); the tacos were divine! Everything was great quality; no shortcuts or shrinkflation detected. The service was impeccable and the atmosphere was great! Good contemporary Mexican/ Spanish language music playing; nice festive decor; air conditioned; all the good things one might need to enjoy Mexican/texmex food! Learned that the current owner took over for a recently deceased previous owner and has kept much of the same beloved menu (some items are clearly a tribute to the original restaurant). Lots of care and attention to making a great dinner experience. Highly recommend!

Absolutely delicious ! The birria is to die for . The cod tacos and the Mexican burger were delicious . They also have a great children s menu . If we lived in town , we would return every week ! The service is also great : Alvaro is so kind and welcoming . Please go and experience this great spot !

Fun and good food

Absolutely the worst Mexican food we ve ever eaten and we ve eaten a lot. Took forever to get chips and queso and you have to pay for them, not complementary as in every other restaurant. Service is always lightning fast but not here. Only eight tables in the place and only two other tables were occupied. The salsa was disgusting. The quesadillas were just ok but tasted weird. Like they added an Indian spice or something. Queso was not good either. Servers were pleasant but not a good experience.

Welcoming.place, really tasty Mexican food

What an incredible evening my friends and I experienced at Casa Amigos. The food was authentic and very tasty. We loved the complimentary Mexican corn chips and salsa that comes with a purchase of an entree. We ordered jugs of Margaritas and all I have to say is WOW!!! The best! They are delightfully tasty and yes they work! Abel entertained the crowd and was just an overall kind and humourous guy. If you want a great experience with authenticity, this is your place to eat.

Had the absolute best experience at Casa Amigos! The nachos and tacos were top tier! Best margaritas in the city, hands down! Made with fresh lime juice. Seriously the most FUN I have had at any restaurant in St. Johns thanks to the exceptional service from Abel! He even gave us a stunning bar performance for just the two of us! Cant wait to go back!! ¡Muy Bueno! ¡Fantastico! ¡Estupendo!

We had a reservation and were the only people in the restaurant. Service was slow. Complimentary nacho chips with salsa were terrible. Margaritas was good. I heard kitchen call service and our food sat for another 8 minutes before it was picked up and brought to our table. Our server John didnt even check on us to ask if our food was ok. Not a good experience. Food was mediocre at best and taking into consideration that it was comprised by sitting on the line foe 8 extra minutes.

We ate here today for the first time and everything was so great. Nice little intimate atmosphere And the food was excellent (salsa was a bit watery when it came out but that didn t bother us) . Server was also really friendly as well!

Casa Amigos translates to English friends home . When you come here you really feel like you re at your Casa Amigos. If I could give this restaurant 6 stars, I would. Food is amazing, services is outstanding, and the atmosphere feels really authentic.

This was the best dinner we had out during our two week trip across Newfoundland! The staff went above and beyond (honestly refreshing and how it should be when dining out), they were so friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and great portion sizes for the price. The atmosphere is intimate but also fun. Really enjoyed this restaurant and wish we had something like this in our hometown! Thank you!

This was my first restaurant that I visited in St. John s. the food is excellent, the service of the server Daria is top notch, friendly, she helped me with the choice of food and drinks, which I really liked. It was also very nice that she always asked if we liked everything, which I really appreciate. I highly recommend it

Best taquito I ve had in a long time

What an incredible spot!! The owner Larry was a pleasure to talk to, and easily the most interesting person Ive ever met!! The cod tacos were TO DIE FOR, everything was incredibly flavourful and fresh. Awesome selection of tequila as well! Id highly recommend this place, especially to tourists! Great experience tonight. Abel, our server was fantastic. Good was hot and fresh and flavourful. Chips and salsa were nice and smoky. Toasty and warm in restaurant, even though its gross outside. We will be back!

What a great dining experience! I had the chicken burrito served with Mexican rice, refried beans and beef chili. My wife had the cod tacos. The second evening we had the pollo con chile verde and the Mexican flag. Really delicious. And what can I say about the service!!! The people are super nice. Dont hesitate for a second, you will be delighted.

Went there for supper. Delicious food, with all the particularities of the Mexican cuisine. As a Latin-American myself, although not a Mexican, I can relate to the significance of all those flavors and spiciness. Service is great, warm and friendly. On particular thing about service considering a rather family style restaurant: except for the very formal/fancy ones, not many places in town provide a coat rack and offer to hang your coat for you. I understand the restaurant is relatively new, just opened earlier this year. I then wish them lots of success and to remain operational as long as Zapatas, its predecessor in that very same location, if not longer.

Food was great, reasonably priced and staff were very attentive. I would recommend to family and friends and could visit again!

This is without a doubt the best Mexican food you can get outside of Mexico. I tried this place earlier this week and couldnt wait to come back again (which I did). The Birria tacos are unbelievably good...I honestly cant think of any other way to describe how amazing they are. The chicken taquitos as an appy were perfect and the spicy Marg was delicious and the right amount of spicy when I said to make it extra spicy. Honestly, I cant say enough positive things about this restaurant. I will always go here for supper when Im in town and you should too. The servers were very attentive, polite, helpful and friendly. The service was quick considering how good the food was. Zero negatives about this place. If you dont come here, you are missing out.

The service is beyond exceptional and very family friendly. The food is fantastic. I ordered the nachos enchiladas and a churro for dessert. I will definitely be coming back. They even made my son a special fruit drink with an umbrella. I highly recommend.

The staff are so helpful and nice. The bartender put on a bottle show for us. He was hilarious. The food is incredible. I had the Birria tacos and they were SO good I haven t stopped thinking about them.

Everything was great, only thing I could suggest is fresh guacamole. Disappointing to get store bought guac. Will be back

Not authentic Mexican, using pre packaged tortilla and chicken. At a minimum, I expected fresh tortilla, instead of Dempsters branded pre made tortilla. Also, only 3 tortilla for a skillet is a joke. Chicken in the skillet seems pre packaged strips as well, just thrown on a grill to add a smoked flavor. No complimentary salsa and chips like 99% of other Mexican restaurants. And yes, there is such a thing as being too friendly - server is too enthusiastic, engaging in convos with other guests so loudly that it interferes with ones own dining experience. This restaurant screams non-Mexican owner who is cutting corners and trying to save money at the cost of quality and authenticity.

Great atmosphere! Very reminiscent of my all time favourite restaurant Zapatas! Even a few choices on the menu in homage to Zapatats! Daria was our server and she was excellent! Food was delicious! We will definitely be back! The margaritas were also delicious.

This is a gem of a place! The margaritas are amazing. Made with fresh ingredients! Right down to the lime juice and syrup that is used in them!! The food is extremely delicious and portions that are large enough to be shared by two people who have smaller appetites! The best part of this restaurant is the staff! Every single one of them! They are extremely knowledgeable, friendly and not one of them didn t have a bright smile and graciously greet us with warmth and hospitality. The musician played a mixture of music that made you want to sing along. Of course, everyone did and it appeared to me, that the other tables were enjoying themselves just as much as we were!!!! I definitely recommend Casa Amigos as a must try restaurant. It will quickly become a favourite!

Food and drinks were disappointing. Menu advertises certain dishes as Zapatas Recipe , yet the food we ordered tasted nothing like it did at Zapatas, which was one of my favourite restaurants in St. John s. We went shortly after the restaurant opened, so perhaps they have improved since, but I m certainly not rushing back.

Absolutely amazing the chicken Taquitos were flavourful and they came out the perfect temperature! The fries were also good although I would have preferred them to be a bit more crispy and crunchy. The service was amazing everyone was very sweet! Overall I definitely suggest this place if you like smaller restaurants and peaceful atmospheres.

So happy that we have Zapatas pollo con chili verde again!!!! Service was a little slow but the meal was perfection and fast to come out after we ordered!

A great place eat . Six of us were there for dinner we ate upstairs and the atmosphere was warm and cozy and nice music playing . The food was delicious and drinks even better . Excellent staff will definitely go back .

I was very impressed with the prompt service and fun atmosphere while visiting the restaurant. My husband and I went for supper during a busy time and our server was great and our food came out quickly. We had the Mexican Flag and we LOVED it. I love that Casa Amigo has the original Zapatas chili recipe. The musician was phenomenal and the cherry on top to our night out, was the energetic bartender mixing margaritas. He had the crowd cheering him on while doing tricks and mixing drinks. We enjoyed it so much, we extended our stay and ordered more beverages while enjoying the atmosphere upstairs. Great Friday date night with great food, drinks and entertainment. Prices were very reasonable!

Myself and my sister had a delicious meal and a fun evening hete on April 6. We had the nacho flight to start and then the delicoous Mexican flag. The restaurant is creating their own delicious menu options while also paying tribute to some highlights of the restaurants history like the Zapatas chili. One our fav parts, the delicious margaritas made by the amazing mixologist and super nice guy Abel. We would highly recommend and we will be back! A cozy qnd happy place .Suzie and Ally

What a time we had! Myself and five family members decided to try out Casa Amigos on the fly and we werent disappointed. Beyond the cool and clean atmosphere, the food and drinks were affordable, quick and SO SO delicious.Beyond kind and attentive, our servers were so playful , having us all laughing a number of times throughout the meal. Anyone who was bummed when Zapatas closed, be happy to know that Casa Amigos is doing one heck of a job!

Such a nice little niche spot that is close to downtown. Amazing server and the food was mouthwatering good. Me and my girlfriend decided to try this for something new in town. The bartender personally served us our drinks at our table and the Margarita was the best in the city. Can t wait to go back!!

Glad to see the old Zappattas space reborn. Overall a good experience, food was well priced and excellent. If I was going to give one slight negative Id say we thought the queso portion was small. But thats just being picky. Id suggest this spot over Quintanas anytime...way better experience

Food was okay, in my opinion it s not a real Mexican experience. Maybe try adding some real authentic Mexican dishes and the tortillas weren t the best. Corn tortillas are better to fry rather than flour. Just some suggestions as I miss Mexican flavours from home.

Overall okay food! I would suggest switching to corn tortillas instead of flour! Most of our dishes also needed more salt and flavor!! The birria tacos were great and the re-fried beans on the nachos were a highlight!! Also- latin music (salsa, merengue, bachata, reggaeton) would be great instead of the classical, and maybe a bit louder to add more atmosphere!!

Mexican flag entree was delicious. Not Spicy but real flavourful . My friends cod tacos were not good but the churros were absolutely awesome. The one thing we thought was ridiculous was an extra bit of sour cream and it was literally a tablespoon and we were charged 4$ each for it!! Which really was closer to 6$ with tax and tip. 23$ Entree, coffee and extra sour cream cost me 45$ . Staff were real sweet. Bar area really cute
