I had a wonderful dining experience at this cozy restaurant. The service was perfect and the food was fresh and delicious. The Devore is also on point, definitely a must-visit spot in the town.
We stopped in for dinner and we got there before the rush. When there is a lot of people inside it can be noisy. The chips had a seasoning in them and the queso was a little runny compared to what I am used to at home. They were both good though. I got the spicy grilled cauliflower tacos which were good. My husband got the shrimp tacos which had 2 shrimp on each tacos. The portions were more like tapas. The staff was friendly and attentive.
Great place with great food! Our server was great in helping pick good beers to try and everything came in a timely manner. Would definitely recommend and visit again!
Great place! It was trivia night I believe and the place was packed. Not a moose meat fan however the moose taquitos are a must try.
I had a pretty bad experience with the food truck recently. I waited 25 minutes in line to order, then an additional 35 minutes before the food was ready, they must have been understaffed or unprepared. The food itself cost $20+ for two small tacos and a small box of basic fries. Hopefully this isn't the regular experience!
I took my friends to introduce them to some of the best tacos I have had but from the past 3time the food hasn’t been like before. What was disappointing that the shrimp and chicken both were overcooked and when I mentioned it to our server she showed me and attitude. I was very polite. It didn’t feel good. It is still my favourite place to eat but food has been very disappointing. It’s cold and overcooked. 🥺 churros and birria taco was great. More things happened during our service that I’m not happy about but I’ll let it go!
Delicious meals and excellent service! The moose taquitos and the churros were our favourites. They have Corona on draught which is not something you see in many other places in Canada. The zero-proof margarita was just as good as the real deal! They have enough space for large parties and definitely recommend making reservations.
Popped in for a few margaritas during a walk downtown. They were delicious! Also had an order of the Cod Tacos which were absolutely incredible. All of the food that went past us looked amazing, I wanted try everything! Only disappointing part of our visit was the service, it was slow and took a while to get out orders. The patio was busy however inside was fairly empty. I don't know if it was a staffing issue, regardless will try this spot again!
Great atmosphere and authentic Mexican cuisine
Staff was distracted and never checked on drinks once. Had to wait a long time for bill.
Was there for a birthday ...food was simply fantastic ...portions were a little small but priced accordingly... highly recommend the food
It was my first time there, and I loved it. The food was amazing. The service was great, and their Margheritas were delicious. Will definitely go there again.
Amazing tacos!!!
In my opinion, pico de gallo should always be free and come immediately when you sit down. Its the Mexican way! Over all its ok.
Had a great chat with the serving staff! Very friendly even though we were late to dine there! Vegetarian options: Theyll adapt the meat dishes on the menu to be vegetarian instead if you ask.
It was raining and they took us in fed us and gave us drink. All they asked was a little money in exchange and that was a fair deal.
We had a dinner party at home and ordered our food and margarita mix . From the start of asking questions two weeks before, suggestions for ordering right to the deliveries itself there were absolutely no issues. Derick( think the spelling is right) was so quick to answer every email I sent and and I sent alot lol. Amazing service , great food and yummy margaritas. We are so happy with how it all turned out. Completely stress free and enjoyable evening. You guys are the best
Always enjoyed Conjones food and their fantastic deals on Taco Tuesday! I do feel their level of service has been lacking the last few years. Covid, hard to find staff, etc. Would recommend their Tacos and Wings, especially if you like spicy! Just be patient and expect long waits between drinks, etc.
We wandered down to the Pedestrian Mall to enjoy the evening and grab some dinner. It was busy so we decided to pick a place and wait for a table as we were a large party. The staff at Cajones were friendly but a little disorganized however I appreciate they did work hard to get us a table for our party so we could sit together even though we were willing to split up. The food took a long time and arrived sporadically so we didn t get to eat together anyway and disappointingly the kids food arrived last which as everyone knows leads to grumpy kids & parents. Food was adequate, not great but also not terrible. It s a great spot for people watching
Very quiet, mid afternoon. No one seemed in much of a hurry. Enjoyable experience.
Nice Mexican food
Great value,food but booze expensive
Made the mostake of sitting inside. Bad music was blowing my ears out. Server seemed lost and would disappear for long stretches. The food is basic and flavorless. Will not be going back as Im not only looking for overpriced mixed drinks.
Outdoor decks are great for a different feel. Food is still amazing!
Service was great but wish I could say the food was as good as the service. Their chips are not good. The guacamole is fine. The beer is a beer. The fish tacos are miserably stingy small and unfortunately could not taste the fish because of a sweet sauce on top of it. I do not know what to say anymore about food and prices. Liked the place but wish they would be more conscious of the customer and less of the pocketbook.
Food is generally pretty good! Service generally is not. I wouldnt say this is a must eat destination but pretty good all around nonetheless.
Great restaurant anex bar
Begging yall to better with your food truck. Had these two miniscule tacos thrown into a box yesterday for $12
Wonderfully fresh feeling tacos, and a spicy margarita. The place was busy when we went there and the staff seemed a little exasperated but the food was incredible and the price was very reasonable. Highly recommended (pun intended)
Parking: Street closed off when pedestrian mall is open, but otherwise can park on street. When mall is open, you can park in nearby parking garages or on side streets Food
It s not very often, I leave all 1 star ratings , but I have nothing good to say about my experience here. I waited in the entry way for 7 minutes with servers and other staff walking by me without saying a word. Finally I asked the bar tender if I just seat myself. The two ladies waiting behind me decided to leave, I should have as well, but a friend recommended this place so I wanted to try the food. Finally they sat me outside, and the waitress comes up and asks what she can get for me. Well let s start with a menu perhaps? Finally after she came with one I ordered some crunch chicken tacos, and beef dorado tacos, with a Pepsi, and chips and salsa to start. My tacos came first, and I had to request my drink and chips and salsa again. The crunch chicken tacos were 2 bites and the beef dorados were soggy. I got my drink but still no chips after I asked once again. About 20 minutes after I got my tacos I was asked again if I had gotten my chips. My reply was nope, and I don t want them, get me my bill, I m leaving. A different person brought my bill and didn t say a word to me. Not a single word just handed me the bill. I paid it with no tip. The first time in over 2 years and hundreds of restaurants I ve visited that didn t get a tip. Just pathetic all around.
They are really slow. We waited for drinks about half an hour. We ordered food it took more than an hour, So we had to cancel the food. The customer service is awful. They don t pay attention to foreign people.
Good food excellent service
Yummy tacos and spicy mango margaritas loved the flavors!
A family dinner outing personally requested by our 13 year old! This was our second experience at the downtown location (first being Paradise). 6:00pm reservation, divider wall was up in the middle (I was told it is to enhance the Cozy vibe during slower dining periods). A very dimly lit restaurant (if you havent been) I get it though, makes the decor lights pop more and catch your eye. We had queso dip with nachos , twice because it was great! An alcohol free Corona which tastes exactly the same as the regular version I had the Chicken Burrito with refried beans and rice (pictured) AMAZING Parking: Paid parking before 6:00p.m Free after 6:00.
We had a large group so we were a little difficult I ll admit but the staff was so attentive and helpful. The food was delicious too! I will definitely be back :)
Very yummy
Most folks great, hence the 4 but I like everything Ive had and Ive had alot from soup to apps to tacos n burritos...fast flavorful
I was there with a large party of people (more than 20 of us) and they did great. There were a couple mix-ups with the orders. But other than that, the service was great and timely
Nachos are the best!! Loved it
hey guys before i start just wanna say great atmosphere , and super kind servers ! so i went here about a year or two ago and it was so delicious . however i went last week and the tacos while being way larger are also more expensive and far less flavourful! i had 2 birria tacos and it literally just tasted like beef with a tiny hint of flavour . maybe it s bc since my last visit i ve had authentic mexican food made in places where the menu isn t even english but i truly think the meat needs far more flavour . me and my friend were super excited and both let down . it smells so amazing in there so i can t speak for the other menu items but fr guys up the flavour! i was speaking to someone who works at another restaurant and they said international cuisines here often dull their flavour down for the white people of st. john s and their basic pallet . DONT DO THAT ! it just ruins good food! id sooooo much rather less beef and more flavor than extra beef with less flavour not trying to hate .
The service was phenomenal the server/bartender Javier was absolutely excellent and the food was great I m not from St. John s but next time I m in the area will be stopping by again
Overpriced and not great quality. 3 people cost $130 and we left hungry. Service was ok. Had to wait several minutes before someone acknowledged us when we entered, and had to wait several more for someone to let me pay.
I had the chicken and fish tacos, the chicken was honestly very bad. It tasted old and like it belongs to the rubbish bin. Fish tacos were great though, crispy and tasty, definitely recommend that. I guess I went on the wrong day to get chicken tacos. Drinks were regular, nothing special.
Absolutely incredible food! Very surprised to find such good Mexican food all the way out here in Newfoundland. The staff were also very friendly. The decor is fabulous. Would highly recommend. Portions are a bit small, but incredible quality and taste.
Tasty meals and absolutely delicious cocktails. The service was most friendly and made us love our experience.
service was great...portions are small for the prices
Dont waste your money here....spend it somewhere else. I waited 40 minutes for my food...and it was cold. The server Maddy was very inattentive...and forgot about me!! The best they could do after I complained...was give me 30% discount. Do not eat here...its not worth it Doris from Winnipeg
Been here twice. Prices are expensive. Delicious, but too expensive
My fastest review yet! We just got home from Cajones downtown, my first time there. We sat on the deck, the sun was on us so it was comfortable. We had queso & chips, Mexican street fries and al pastor. We substituted pico for salsa on the al pastor and that was not a problem. It was all very tasty, I will be attempting to make the Mexican street fries at home they were that good. Service was perfect, she was attentive but not too much, food service was fast and it was all hot and fresh. We will definitely be going back.
They were mean about sitting us as it was cold and we wanted to sit in a warm spot. Food tasted okay, ordered chicken fajitas, lots of peppers, very little chicken Gf quesadillas average Our order took over an hour to be served. As we were cold we eventually took as take away Not impressed
Terrible food with new menu
Really sad that they removed taco Tuesday.
Was disappointed in the food but mostly the service. We were immediately told we had 1.5hrs because they had another reservation at our table at 8:30pm. Julie seemed nice when she came to take our drink order but then took 10 minutes to bring our drinks and the another 5 for a glass of water. After we ordered, it was a 1hr long wait until our food came. Didn t get our chips and salsa until the whole meal came out. Starving and waiting to be checked on by Julie for a refill on our drinks. Once our food came, it was cold! Only one of our dishes was warm. Didn t get a chance to tell our server, not because she wasn t around but because she wouldn t come to our table and check walking around. Once she finally checked in we order tacos to go which didn t seem to please her. Finally got our bill after waiting 15 minutes and as she hovered over our shoulder when it came time to tip. No conversation. No service skills. Overall food was cold which is disappointing. And service was terrible.
Excellent service. We waited 1.5 hours on food and left. Staff were apologetic. We thought this was a one off occurrence so we tried it again and the same issue happened
Way too overpriced. We had nachos, a sangria, and a classic margarita. They had skimped a lot on adding the toppings to the nachos, and they did not come with a dip. The drinks came in dirty glasses. A total rip off, there are plenty of other restaurants in town which are reasonably priced with way better quality food and better service.
They did not clean off our table when we sat down. There were lots of crumbs and debris from previous customers. It took them 30 minutes to bring water and drinks. Once we ordered food that took another 45 minutes. We ordered one classic margarita, one sangria, and one plate of nachos. The total came out to 60 dollars. The markup is huge for the quantity, and qualify of food that is rendered. Also they did not provide complementary chips and salsa. The classic margarita was the only good item I received.
Really liked this place a couple years ago. Tonight however changed my mind on that. Appetizer and meal came out together, after waiting over an hour for it. (Guac and chips?). My tacos and my wifes came out on the same plate and there was no cutlery or napkins. Service started very poor but luckily closer to the end we had a different waitress tend on us who was much better than the initial waiter. For $90+, skip this place a go somewhere else.
Pretty meh. Incredibly overpriced for some of the cheapest ingredients on planet earth. Upon arrival, went to the bar to get a drink and the bartender told me to go back to my table (of 16) and wait for the server (like I didnt understand the process or that a server would eventually be by. Eventually) to 1. Take the tables order (from 16 folks) and then 2. Bring my drink (after 15 others). Lmfao. That was comical, as clearly I wanted a drink at the bar and at that time. Not in a half hour, at the table. The $60 bottles of $15 wine are also quite comical. Id probably recommend saving yourself a hundred+ bucks (to receive $10 worth of mid food), make tacos at home, then buy wine and groceries with the money left over.
Very confused staff may of been training new people maybe
The food is good but we went away hungry. Its expensive for small portions. Their drinks are great! Love their margaritas. We booked a reservation and when we got there was told food would be at least an hour. We stayed anyway and they seemed extremely busy. Service wasnt the best probably for this reason. Will probably just go for drinks and not for food next time.
I love Mexican food. Love it. But this just wasn t hitting.. Mexican rice was delicious, but you maybe get 1/2-2/3 of a cup for $4. See pic.. I have tiny hands! Refried beans were not refried. Mostly undercooked and hard. The tortillas of my birria tacos weren t fried in the consomé. And it would ve been nice if I was offered fresh toppings to add as well like cilantro, salsa verde, etc I know this sounds like I m being picky but these things are standard at many Mexican restraunts. Ingredients were very fresh, beef was very flavourful. Mojito was perfect-o! And the interiors was beautiful. This place could be amazing with a few tweaks in the kitchen.
Food was pretty good but there were inconsistencies with our dishes even though we ordered the same thing. Some plates came out with toppings on them and some didnt. Our server wasnt very friendly and forgot multiple things like our chips and salsa for the table, my dessert and cutlery. They brought out our food with no cutlery and we had to wait 10 minutes for them to get some. Same again at dessert time, brought out all the kids their scoop of ice cream and no spoons to eat it. It was a very very hot day and we were sat on the patio without a cover and they had absolutely no ice in our drinks. They got my order wrong for my main and dessert. Extremely long wait for anything you ask for. I had to ask for just about anything I needed including the bill even though everyone had been done eating for quite sometime, they ran out of bill paper so he made me look over his screen after he asked me to walk him through what I had ordered again. No receipt either. I used to like this place but after this experience I wont be back.
When cajones first opened up the staff and menu was fantastic authentic mexican flavor that eventually got phased out for bastardized moose rubbish, trying to find a server who isnt actively avoiding your eye contact is absolutely impossible I have never seen a more socially anxious serving staff or at least the men were,I eventually had a lovely young lady come over and seat us eventually waiting 30 minutes in a packed downtown restauraunt that cant afford ac during a heat break It maybe shouldnt be open in the first place.
Food was mediocre and the service was very slow and inattentive. Decent enough place if you re just going for margaritas and other drinks though.
Cool place. Service isn t great we made reservations and got sat down which was fine. Server took our order for drinks, took roughly 20 minutes to get our drink. Server then came back and took our order for food. We ordered an appetizer and tacos. Server then came back thirty minutes later and took our order for another drink, at this point we were already there for an hour and hadn t seen her, she also failed to inform us as to why the wait was so long. At this point we both had two drinks and it had been over an hour and a half. Appetizer was one piece of corn for two people. Tacos were two tacos each. The food tastes good but not after waiting nearly two hours we were starving and the portions are small. Server then came over (she had different waiters serve us our food as we made multiple attempts to wave her down and get her attention and she kept going the opposite way into the back to avoid us). We would have appreciated if she was to let us know why it was taking so long, or apologize for the wait or atleast make conversation rather than avoid us. We honestly had better service from the man who brought us our food and he only hung around for about two minutes and brought us napkins. Once she finally came around I requested the bill immediately as I didn t want to wait another hour. Bill was about $100 for two beers, two drinks and an cob of corn and 4 small tacos total. If we had good service it would have been worth it. The couple behind us also complained and they got their meal discounted where as we didn t even get an apology.
Margarita flights are a revelation. Really pleasantly surprised to get solid Mexican food in NL.
I love this place Great food and atmosphere Food
Food was good. Tacos are decently sized but on the small size. I guess the kitchen is too small for the seats are the restaurant was about 1/2 full and our server told us it would be about 45 for food. Also, our service overall left a bit to be desired. They came by the table fairly infrequently and seemed over their head without many tables
Totally overrated. One and done for me.
Great spot for food and drinks with friends. The drinks were excellent, especially the Margaritas. You basically get the third one free if you buy a flight. The Mojitos are also delicious. Our group of 6 all enjoyed our food. I had the wings and tuna tacos. I ll order the same the next time I go back. Highly recommended. I noticed some reviews on small portion sizes. I felt they were decent but not overflowing like some Mexican restaurants.
Was told it would be an hour wait so we committed to the wait and it actually took over two hours. When the food arrived it was less than warm and very small portions for the price. Sad experience for a first time visit.
Waited 2 1/2 hours for salsa and dip app. Never got it. Worst service ever. Didn t see waitress at all. Don t go.
Very slow service food was blah. Nachos was half empty and we may have had 5 small pieces of chicken after paying an extra $7 for it.
Crappyest nachos in town. Service was ok.
4 stars for the simple reason that no pineapple juice for mix sad. Food was good. Service was really nice and pleasant
Moose taquitos were unreal! Pairs nicely with a margarita ;)
Food was good. Service was terrible, but not due to our waiter, who was doing his best. Their system and organization were some of the worst I have ever seen. They had no idea what was ordered. Appetizer came after main course. We had to tell them that items were missing 3 times!
Truly incredible food ! We got salsa and guac as appetizers, and their Margarita flight which was so delicious! You can pick any three of their many margarita flavours, and they are full sized! Margaritas were incredible and the flavour options both unique and tasty. The blueberry and spicy mango were our favourite ! The chips that came with the guac and salsa were awesome, had a yummy spice on them with a bit of heat. We ordered the cod and tuna tacos and they were sublime ! Very fresh fish, interesting flavour profiles and STUFFED! 2 tacos with appetizer is plenty, but definitely would recommend 4 tacos if you arent doing any appies. It was so good, we returned for a quick lunch during our trip as well! Vegetarian options: A specialty vegetarian taco offered, plus lots of snacks and shareable that are veg friendly. Dietary restrictions: Lots of gluten free, or available gluten free choices!
This sizable bar tex-mex restaurant is situated right in the heart of downtown St. Johns and we can heartily recommend it. We had great service and food and the atmosphere, even for a Sunday, was fun. For a city that is notionally more British in culture, the Tex Mex food here was really quite good with great mash-up of traditional Tex-Mex themes with East Coast/Irish ingredients such as fresh fish, moose, and potato-based nachos. Having eaten in a number of southwestern US places, this stood up very well against them in all departments. Will definitely be back next time we visit.
Im used to in-house authentic Mexican food, so most Mexican restaurants dont really do it for me anymore. But Cajones... Ill be back! I had the cod tacos (more than once) and they are the perfect match of Mexican and Newfie tacos. I absolutely love them and wish I could have them more often. Besides, any place that can whip up a quesadilla for my half-Mexican kid is a thumbs up for us!
I enjoyed my meal and would certainly go back to try other items on the menu. The service was fast and out waitress was very attentive. They have daily drink specials so we were there on Margarita Monday, two for the price of one.
Margaritta monday is a steal of a deal! Delicious drinks, inviting and friendly service, and well priced. Our experience was great and the fish taco was so good.
Loved the moose tachos.
Very tasty Mexican food, yummy cocktails and great friendly service. Good prices. What more could you ask for?
Drinks are way too expensive. Unfortunately I cannot reply to a reply. However: a margarita contains about 50ml of tequila and 25ml of triple sec. Lets say you pay 40$ per bottle. That means each margarita contains about 4$ of alcohol. Im not sure that justifies the 12$ for cocktail. That is 300%. And well, I havent said this place is more expensive than others, Ive said its too expensive. Which it is, like most of the others.
Very unique menu, well worth the visit!
Absolutely worth it. Food is top notch
Great take on TexMex. Excellent service.
This food was not good at all, and way to pricey. For people saying here that is real Mexican food tasting please don t, this is very Tex-Mex at best but not real Mexican food, I am taking into consideration that the ingredients are hard to get here and that is why I m giving it a 2 star otherwise it would have been 1. I had the birria tacos which are by far the best tasting other than that I had the enchiladas which are really not, the rice and beans are very bad same as the al pastor taco, and then also $8 for a churro again way overpriced. To be honest burrito jax and burritos on topsail have better tasting food for a cheaper price but then again I understand location is much better and I m guessing more expensive and that is why the high prices. The ambient is nice though if you go downtown for a few drinks. FYI-for all you saying this is real authentic mexican food please don t if you don t know what real Mexican food is!!
Went to the food truck in Quidi Vidi, and it all was great. Really enjoyed the moose taquitoes.
Terrible service waited 1:15 hours for an appetizer, came cold waitress never asked for our main order ,place closed left without food
Good food but very slow service.
We were at this restaurant in St. JOHNS after our tour. We waited almost an hour for 2 greasy beef tacos and a chicken bowl. Would not go there again sorry.
Good food.
All the waitress was wonderful. We enjoyed our meal. The plates were full.
We had to wait quite a long time for our mains (over an hour) , but they took care of us.
Great spot to stop for a margarita on a rare, scorching hot and muggy afternoon in St. Johns. Service was very friendly and efficient, the outdoor street-side patio was fun, and the margaritas - both the blueberry and the spicy mango - hit the spot. 5 stars.
Delicious! The spicy margaritas are the best.
Prompt friendly service, fair prices, and delicious food.
Went with a big group. But service was not good and the portions were tiny for the price.
Great Mexican food in St. Johns! We really enjoyed our meal here. The place was packed on a Monday evening so that was a really good sign!
if you have a food allergy or a not enough to inform your server. double check your order, we had a close call.
Food was good, but the service was terrible. We waited 2+ hours for our food and at the end they didn t even have something we ordered. Extremely disappointed, will never go there again.
Really great! Authentic tasting Mexican food - hard to find. The flavors are quite different than what you would get from a more fast food style places. I found it a bit pricey, but honestly it was worth it because the meal was great. The margaritas were also really delicious and unique. Edit: I am editing my review from 4 stars to 5. My wife and I just went to the restaurant for a sit down meal. I had the burrito and my wife had the enchiladas - both of us ordered the spicy mango Margarita. The experience was great! The food was really amazing and I feel it warranted the price actually - which was my only original critique. I felt it required an updated review.
I m sorry to say but this was my worst dining experience in St. John s. I arrived on a Monday night at around 7 pm. Was told there weren t any tables available but I could wait at the bar. Was able to order one drink (the raspberry mojito which was delicious, to be honest) but no one checked up on me except servers telling me they were waiting for a table to free up. It took an HOUR to be seated at a table, even though I saw numerous tables free up indoors and there were three available tables outdoors. So, I finally got seated at a table (I would have eaten at the bar, but I guess that s not what the bar is for here) and then waited over an HOUR for my food to arrive! It wasn t until after 9 that I was actually eating. I heard other customers complaining, as well, and one table even just cancelled their order and asked for the bill. It was close to 9:30 when my food finally arrived. I ordered a tinga chicken taco (delicious!), a chicken al pastor taco (dry, & too sweet), and a side of Mexican rice (way too small to justify SIX dollars). I gobbled my food up because I was so hungry and paid and that was that. The servers were all very nice and friendly, but I can t recommend with the long wait times and the food that did not make up for it.
Ordered from the taco menu. When the plate arrived there was two little tiny squat tacos on a side plate with a little ramekin of onion dipping sauce. Was expecting a meal. It could have at least come with a side. Pretty disappointing No explanation, description or information otherwise from the waiter when ordering - it pretty much went like this.. ready to order?, Ok and he was gone. A different server showed up about 45-50 minutes later with the squat tacos on the little plate. Presentation was less than appetizing. Ill definitely think twice or not at all about returning to that place.
Awesome food and friendly staff! Made a reservation two days beforehand and no wait or any complications at all! I must reiterate the staff was so friendly and our waiter was such a sweet soul. Food was equally as awesome as the staff. Will definitely be going back again.
Kid-friendliness: They were friendly and polite but they didnt have a kids menu and if they did they never offer one to us.
Very long wait for food in the middle of the afternoon. Food was good unfortunately it just too long to get it. Server was very apologetic
The food was great but the wait time was a bit long
If there was a zero star I would have picked that. First, our reservation was not ready and we had to wait 20 mins to get our seats. After placing our order, we were never told how long the food will take. We waited over an hour for our order and kept being told that the food is on its way.. ended up leaving after the hour and a half without even getting our appetizers. Thanks for ruining our plans and wasting our time!
Wonderful burrito! Great pitcher of margaritas to share!
Service was slow, food was pretty good, but the food truck is way better.
Order 5YB1F9MKNMPFA arrived 1:30 The staff were friendly but we ordered 4 tacos and they still hadn t shown up by 2:45pm. We watched larger groups of diners show up, get their appetizers, then their main courses, and leave before we got fed up and left. I understand they said they were short staffed but that doesn t explain why the other tables had no issues on much bigger orders but we got stiffed. They gave us 30% off on our drinks before we left - so there is that. Wouldn t go back and wouldn t recommend
Slow service, music to loud, and food came out stale and not hot.
Food is sooo good! But those margarita drinks Holy cow all were so amazing! Loved this place.
W everything
Top notch food, great drinks and amazing staff, as well as lovely outdoor seating. Well worth a visit
Im still drooling thinking about this place. Their tacos are amazing, and I recommend the queso! I had the beef dorado de bierra and my partner had a vegetarian dish (cant recall the name). We had some drinks and followed things up with churros. Everything was excellent! Attendants were very friendly and well definitely come back next time were in St. Johns.
Just tried to place an order and the woman whom took the call was incredibly rude. Needless to say, I will not be eating tacos this evening.
Always have the grande nachos with chicken & guacamole. This time was a big disappointment only 1/3 plate of nachos not enough for two. Cheese not melted, chicken, maybe 6-8 small pieces , no onions or hot peppers. Big disappointment! May not be pack.,
Both the Cod tacos and the Chicken Tikka tacos were amazing! So was the dessert of the day which was a delicious blueberry bread pudding! Service was also prompt and friendly. A very busy place that often has a line-up.
Had the nachos only, but they were awesome!
Fun atmosphere, friendly service . Great experience
Great, a little loud with the music but food killer!!
The decor and the atmosphere here are really nice. We shared nachos, and I had moose taquitos. The moose taquitos were amazing! The nachos were alright. My date had a cod taco, which he said was good. Vegetarian options: There arent a huge number, but they do exist. Dietary restrictions: There were several gluten free options available.
Theyre so awesome..they got amazing food. And especially theyre Churros!!!!
Very slow service, had to ask for water and side plates. Not impressed, wont be back. Update: The manager reached out and made a solid effort to make things right. Hoping that my next visit is better.
Food was really good.
So the food is good and the price is not bad for a high traffic location. Servers are polite and do their job. Only go here if you have A LOT of time on your hands. We ate on appy and our meals and it took 2.5 hours. We were on vacation and on a down day so not the worse thing to happen but if I was in a regular mood this would have been enraged
The food is hit and miss. Major differentiator here are the moose taquitos.
Absolutely delicious! The cod tacos, moose taquitos, and rice are amazing. Just the right amount of heat and they pack in all the veggies you can.
the food is phenomenal, like wow, no shame whatsoever in fully devouring the cod taco in under 5 minutes, haha. that being said portions are definitely on the smaller side. I would have loved for the meal to include two tacos to start vs. Having to pay double for another. I mean I get it, but I wouldnt call it a perk from a consumers standpoint. Overall, so delicious and I will go back and recommend to everyone.
*This review has been modified at the restaurants request for a review that cites the facts more precisely* Difficult to accommodate groups, high price for the quantity having had breakfast there. I was poorly treated by one of the rather expeditious hosts at the entrance who gave the table to a group next to me who had just arrived and who did not have a reservation in the queue without checking if we were together after confirming that I could have the table and that the waiters would prepare the table. But I was treated very well by several of the servers who tried to accommodate me after I contacted them many times of my own free will following this mishap. There was a mix-up in the reservation I made in the evening, where I requested a table for 7:30pm but it was allocated to me at 7:00pm. My English being correct but not bilingual I think of a confusion or a lack of communication between me and the person who made the reservation. The restaurant couldnt reach me for 7:00 p.m. because I didnt leave a phone number, which meant that my friends arrived on time without being able to get the table and I was 13 minutes late. The host made me understand that there is a rule of canceling the reservation and that he could not accommodate my group of 8 people which was supposed to be a group of 10 people (2 people did not have. could not attend because of an unforeseen event, which does not seem to matter to the management of the restaurant). I do not recommend.
Best Margarita I have ever tasted. Everything was perfect. Clean tables, pleasant and quick staff.
The food was tasty... lets just get that out there immediately. We had the Pollo Poquito and the Chicken Quesidias both of which were pretty yummy. Our server was also pretty awesome and was knowledgeable enough to even make some recommendations. The vibes were pretty laid back as it was a mid week meal. We would definitely go back there to eat again soon.
The birria tacos are well served, the only point against it is that the service is somewhat slow, I ordered only 1 taco and it took approximately 20 minutes to serve it
READ THE REVIEWS FIRST!!! We had reserved a table a month in advance. Once we got there, we were seated. A waiter came by to take our order only to be told that it would be a 1 & 1/2 hours wait for food!!!!!!!!! Our reso was only booked for 2 hours as that was the timeframe given by the restaurant when booking. We ended up having to leave and go find dinner elsewhere. Everything was so unorganized and it was extremely disappointing for someone who made a reservationS FROM OUT OF PROVINCE over a month ago to be told that, specially when we were on vacation! Not impressed at all, wouldnt recommend to anyone.
One of our worst dining experiences. First off, there nothing authentic about the Mexican food at this restaurant. I ve had Mexican food all over the world and this isn t it. Arrived at 830 for our reservation and placed our order with our drink order. An hour and fifteen minutes later we had our food. The nachos were luke warm and soggy and honestly, just not very good. Nothing different from any other restaurant in the city in regard to ingredients or presentation and probably not even top 20 in flavour. We shared nachos, 2 tacos, and a sizzling skillet with some margaritas. The margaritas were good but very small. 3 sips snd your done, due the overloaded ice in the small glasses. For our second round I got a large mug for mine and my partner got the same small glass which was odd. The carne asada taco was mediocre at best, and only came with meat and a tasteless chimichurri, no salsa etc. The chicken al pastor was better but not near the size of the carne, very inconsistent. Mustang Sally s tacos are better by a mile. The skillet was another let down. First off, the sent out the tortillas and toppings about 15 minutes before we received the skillet. The skillet arrived with just very well done beef and peppers. The flour tortillas were clearly not homemade which was such a let down, and really beyond belief for a Mexican restaurant. I make my own at home all the time and its so easy. Overall the experience was very disappointing. Second time there and wanted to love it but they need to do much better. Basically, any restaurant in the city that has that Tex-mex section of their menu is on par with the food here, which is so disappointing when this is the restaurant speciality. The server was very nice and the chips and salsa for the table were good but not enough to bring us back.
Definitely not authenticate mexican cuisine, mediocre at best. Decor has a franchise feel to it, location was close to our hotel in the downtown area. We ordered the beef burrito and chicken enchiladas. The filling in the burrito was ok but it was served with sour cream squirted all over so it needed to be eaten with a knife and fork, it also had some sort of weird pickled veg on top. The enchilada was a bit too dry, the frijoles and rice were good/well seasoned, could have used a tad more cilantro. Asked for a straw and hot sauce from waitress and both items took a long time to arrive. The mango habanero hot sauce is not spicy at all, just tasted like mango puree. Overall not a great experience
Excellent atmosphere, food and service!
Excellent
Their service was horrible! They made us wait for so long and we ended up leaving before we even got our appetizers even though we had a reservation and waited for 1.5h!
Love their decor and music!
Fish tacos...best in the city. Delicious! Our server was kind, attentive, and was clearly having a good time with his evening. It was so lovely to see. Will return!
very slow customer service. We ordered beers and more than 20 minutes for them to bring us the beers. And then I still cant comment on the food, when I try it Ill tell you.
Really disappointed Ordered the chicken and beef tacos. It was implied a gringo twist was added. I wouldn t write that on the menu if it absolutely ruined the dish. Tasted like beef stew in a taco, no creativity won t ever come here again
Service was FAST and the food was great!
The overall experience was great. The service was amazing, friendly, and very prompt. I loved the overall atmosphere of Cohones. My only complaint was that our appetizers were on the salty side.
