The location is great to hit up before an arts and culture centre event. It is in a bit of a need for an update. I thoroughly enjoy their sugar free salsa that you can also purchase from Costco.

Unfortunately, the worst restaurant Ive been to. From the food to the atmosphere to the price, it should be illegal to be this bad. Probably a front for something.

Service is fantastic, and the margaritas arent bad either! ;-) But they must have a new chef - my usual go-to, the Mexican Flag, seemed to be overly salty, especially the sides. My friend ordered the enchilada pie and found it really salty as well. Not usually an issue but I do hope they cut back in the salt for all entrees. Other than that, it remains one of my favorite restaurants in the city.

Great food, great service. Adam is top notch and all the staff are accommodating and friendly. I recommend the taco salad, t.m.ts, and the chicken flautas. Well, I have not had anything here that I didnt like to be honest. People think Mexican and they think spicy. There are plenty of non spicy options! My only complaint is they no longer have the caramel flan on the menu :( definitely recommend this restaurant, its cozy, comfortable and always homemade good food. Its worth the price!

My partner and I ALWAYS have an amazing experience when we go here. The food is SO good and our service is always amazing. We ve had Jess the past few times and after not being there for a few months, she remembered us and asked how we ve been! She is SO lovely and I hope she is appreciated for how awesome she is at her job! Nowhere compares to her level of customer service or just the quality of the experience we have there. :) Vegetarian options: A good few vegetarian options! I m not a vegetarian but I don t always feel up for meat and boy are they great vegetarian options!

My partner and I have been coming here since I moved to St. Johns twenty years ago. We are going again tonight. I expect it to be thoroughly delicious. Clean, friendly staff and terrific food. I dont drink, but my missus always has at least one Margarita.

When we visit St. John s, this is one of our go-to spots for a bite. First, it s getting tougher and tougher to find hot food at a restaurant. This place serves it up piping hot in a cozy atmosphere. Mexican Flag, Fajitas, or Stir fry are a favorite. Always welcoming and food is delicious and consistent. One of the best selection of beers and beverages on the island. Thanks to Tom, Jess, Laheiny and Adam plus the kitchen for making our meals special. Great service and nice chats. Can t wait to visit again on our next trip up. One last thing, try the buenelos for desert, you won t regret it.

Food took forever to come out and was unevenly heated, obviously had been sitting under a warmer for too long. Chips were stale and salsa tasteless. Server was absent and food was overpriced relative to the overall experience.

The food was good and music lively too. Our waitress was amazing BUT it took 30 minutes to get the cheque! Perhaps they should hire additional staff, to make things easy.

Had a reservation...waited a long time to be seated and left frustrated. Asked to speak to owner....he just stood there and let the server serve her attitude. We have always loved this place but would be hesitant to return.

Ordered 1.order.of Poquittas and queso dip.The poquittas were the the size of top of my finger to the 1st joint Way smaller and so was the dipping sauce.For the price not worth the quanity taste was ok.That the only thing.

Our appetizer was great. Very flavourful coyote critters, cheese stuffed peppers. Our entrées were supposed to be spicy according to the menu description but they were not spicy at all, so we were disappointed with that

This restaurant is close to downtown St. John s and offers delicious Mexican food. The staff are very friendly and the service is top notch. The food was very tasty but not as spicy as we expected. My fiancé is from Latin America and she gave it two thumbs up.

Amazing service! Would have liked more zing/flavour in the food, but for the average person I think this would be a great place to try tacos, enchiladas, etc and awesome desserts.

I was so impressed with this restaurant! The portion sizes are amazing for the price, for starters. But the food is delicious, and very curtious wait staff!

Terrible service bad management, too many mistakes to enjoy the meal one or two would be acceptable but they kept making them then the manager acted like a child and stormed away. Would not recommend.

We walked in. Immediately we were given lip for not having a reservation. He grabbed menus and stalked off in a huff without saying another word. There are other restaurants. If there are no tables available then fine tell us, it is a fine day and there is a park across the way. We looked at each other and shrugged and followed. He was actually bringing us to our table. Great. There was some confusion on the menu. The menu they gave us was a link to the site we had checked before coming. We asked for some of the items listed under one of the headings on this menu. We were told they were unavailable. We were asking for clarification as we had made the decision to eat there based on this menu they had just given us. I asked to talk to the manager, and the same sorry soul who greeted us came out to the table. I was asking for some clarification, at least an apology or acknowledgement that such a misunderstanding was reasonable. He gave us more lip about us not having a reservation, huffed that it wasnt an argument (we were never arguing, just trying to understand how we were supposed to actually understand the menu if it wasnt listed what parts of it were actually available). He then stalked off without as much as a how do you do - shocking as we had already spent $40 on drinks. It was a sorry state. We then went to Jungle Jims without a reservation, got smiling service without a reservation and had an absolute feast with perfect service without a reservation. Damn us for trying to support an independant local establishment and not a chain restaurant. This was a shocking state, and I am sorry to see that such a lovely local restaurant that I enjoyed frequently while in university (woo MUN) had fallen so far. I hope it was just this one manager as then the rot could be quickly fixed.

Our place to go for Mexican cuisine, excellent friendly service combined with good food made for a great dining experience. We had the Habanero Burrito and 3 x tacos, caution as this place knows how to bring on the heat, for me it was perfect.

Going to try Quintanas again this weekend, it has been about 6 years since weve been. It used to be a favorite many years ago, but in the last 10 years, it is a bit of a roll of the dice. Service is generally good, sometimes great...sometimes awful. Mostly depends on how busy they are. The menu has changed over the years, some of the old favorites are still there, but the last 2 times we went it was quite noticeable that the portions were smaller and some of the signature delights were more like afterthoughts. We used to love the variety of in house salsas...last go round...not so much. Desserts, taco salad Jicama salad , all used to be amazing but over time rarely seen, or offered without the flair if earlier years. Karl Wells did a review in recent years that nailed the problems...we keep wanting to believe that ownership will find their way back to the restaurant we loved. Will find out this weekend if our old favorite is back...or we take another extended vacation from Quintanas.

Website said it closed 10. Showed up 9:30 hoping to get take out and was let down to find out the kitchen closed at 9pm since covid, time to update the website or Google presents bhys. Cant review food, didnt try it. Lol

Wide selection of gluten free options and alternatives that can be offered; I believe only 3 or so menu items they said couldnt. Our server (Brianna?) Absolute gem and very cautious about making sure it was celiac friendly. Been 24 hours, no gluten reaction.

Went to Quintanas with my kids for a meal out...very disappointed. Ordered Loco Nachos with toppings on the side. Order came with twelve...yes twelve...nachos chips with cheese and hamburger on them. For $19. When I asked the waitress if this was it, she told me that it says twelve chips on the menu, as if it was my fault for ordering them incorrectly. It doesnt say twelve chips on the menu. If she had said that it was only 12 chips I would not have ordered them. Nevertheless, we plow through twelve chips like nothing...and the kids are left hungry from three chips each. Then on to the main courses. Ordered three kids meals from a menu that is only available on the website. No worries about online menus- the way of the world right now. Says $7.99 for kids meals. When we receive the bill we were charged $9.99 for each kid meal. Ask the waitress about the price difference and she says that she will get Tom to answer because she just started in August (its October when we went. Note to owner- if she doesnt know the menu by now she never will). Waitress says it says prices subject to change on menu as justification for the difference. Ive experienced this before in shady restaurants in third world countries. After a mediocre meal I speak with the owner, who was pleasant enough but offered no compensation other than his card and asking how we could make the next visit better. Dear owner, there wont be a next visit. And, you need to take a hard look at the servers you have working right now. The one that waited on us was absolutely terrible. Recommendation: stay away. Run. For another restaurant.

This place is great if youre looking for Mexican food. My girlfriend had the nacho platter and I had the chimi Changs with a side of home cut fries, although there are many other choices like salad,refried beans and rice. Both meals were fantastic and I would gladly come back. Also, another thing to note is that the salsa and cream is home made and is delicious

2 plates of food, a drink, dessert and awesome Mexican pizza cost me around 65 bucks, ambience is good, waiting staff are excellent. Overall a decent solid dinner outing.

I eat at Quintanas several times a month. It has enormous helpings; I usually have no room for dessert. The food is absolutely delicious, with a great variety; the salsa comes in a wide range of flavours and degrees of hotness, something for all taste buds. The staff is extremely courteous, helpful in explaining the menu options and specials and attentive to diners while they eat. The change of ownership some years ago was smooth and seamless: maintaining the stellar reputation and the quality of food and service are the watchwords for the new owners. Anyone who criticizes Quintanas needs to have their heads examined!

Very disappointing. Ordered 3 kids meals. Tacos were very spicy so we didn t eat them at all and asked for nuggets instead. We were charged for 6 kids meals despite not being offered drinks and desserts for 6, and were charged $9.99 per meal instead of the $7.99 That was on the online menu we were prompted to look at. They said the bottom says prices are subject to change. So we paid $60 plus tax for a few nuggets and fries for 3 kids. The servers were quite rude when I asked about the pricing. Will definitely not be going back.

Very good food! Generous portions! And they offer takeout in a nice Bento box style takeout container. Would recommend to anyone looking to try food other than traditional Canadian food.

Its a nice more casual restaurant nothing ground breaking but solid good food that will fill you up while still tasting good. They know what they make is good and dont waste time trying to make it fancy or trendy at the expense of taste.

Great food, fresh made and generous portions and attentive service. I had a the chicken taco salad in an edible bowl that was really good, the chicken was yummy. Honestly one of the nicest taco salads Ive had. Would recommend for sure! Playing right on front is metered but in the plaza a few meters away its free.

Great mexican

There food wasnt good and overpriced. Me and my wife never really ate are food because of the taste. Seems they think there a keg quality by there pricing but Id put more at a macdonalds quality. There pricing should be cut in half for the quality and the fact that its dirts to. Place wasnt very clean either you could see the cob webs in all the lights and every just looked a bit run down. They havent been cleaned in for ever. The only good thing I can say and what gets it 2 stars was the service, it was great. This was my first visit to this place and will be my last.

Although we - a party of 4 - had no reservation, the staff quickly found a table for us. The server was very helpful with the menu choices as one of our party was on a special diet. The food was served quickly and was either hot or cold, depending on the choice, and we all found it to be delicious.

Fantastic Mexican food! One of my favourite places to eat!

Ate here recently for lunch and were completely underwhelmed. Ordered two margaritas and these were served luke warm. Not like a margarita should be served. Ordered the Chile Con Queso for an appetizer. The menu said it was a creamy cheese and tomato dip. What we were served was a runny, bland nacho cheese in a plain white dollar store bowl. The mains were ok. We both had curried chicken burritos. They were dry and not very tasty. The rice and refried beans were ok. The curry chicken burrito was advertised as: We fill a flour tortilla with baked chicken, raisins, tomatoes & onions, Jack cheese and our curry sauce. The burrito was dry, there was no sauce and no raisins included. The clincher for us came when, because I found the burrito very dry, I asked for some sour cream. I was given a small restaurant portion (maybe two tablespoons) and was charged 2 dollars for it. On a 65 dollar lunch bill they needed to charge us 2 buck for about 25 cents worth of sour cream? Really? Very disappointing experience. Its been a few years since we ate there - now we remember why.

We were pleasantly surprised to find good Mexican food in St Johns, Newfoundland. A nice bonus was beer on tap from local Quidi Vidi brewery. Service was also quite good and prices were moderate. We had dinner here twice, about a week apart.

Was very pleased with this restaurant and will definitely be coming back for a second visit. The food was very delicious and hot, and our server went above and beyond to make our experience even better. She was also very knowledgable about the food/drinks available there. Definitely recommend this place to anybody who enjoys Mexican food!

Waitress was not at all attentive. And there was no one else in the restaurant. Our food order was incorrect, and waitress was too busy conversing with a coworker to get her attention. I asked a waiter and he took good care of us. I ordered a beef dish and my order came out with chicken. Food was good once I got the correct order.
