14 George St #12, St. John's, NL A1C 1B8, Canada
Energetic watering hole offering familiar pub fare, a full bar & nightly musical guests.
Great beer and there was some good live music 👍
A nice pub for live music but the beer selection makes me not want to return. I really dislike labatt beer and they didn't have any beer that interested me. I settled for a pricy pint of Alexander Keiths ($12.50) And decided to leave. My review is probably more of a personal preference so if you enjoy labatt brews I'm sure you will like this bar.
I very much enjoyed my experience in Saint Johns but this place I feeling a bit rotted. The service was poor and they seemed to make up based on whether you were a tourist or not. When I went to the bathroom I saw a sign saying highballs, beer and shots $6 cash. Makes one think when I spent $25 on two drinks. To be fair the music was very good. 07/24/24
Service was good. The band was average. We did not eat here. It was later in the evening and the beat pumping from across the street drowned out the crowd. Drinks were pricey but I think that's standard for George Street.
Was there on a Saturday evening. Live music, 7 CDA entry, but justified for the atmosphere. Staff were friendly and I was satisfied.
Must avoid. Great atmosphere live music wooden interior. Everything was promising until we got our food and drink prices. $8 for a pint of beer. Disgusting food. Never order onion rings from here. It was like half cooked. I felt like eating a onion in a pancake. I ended up spitting it out. Mussel dish tasted good but there was not much to eat. Some shells had nothing in it. The wings were disastrous. They just took a seasoning shaker and just dumped bunch of spice and cooked it to serve it to us. Btw the chicken had this weird spoiled scent to them. Probably old chicken wings. Overall my experience was terrible and I would suggest people to avoid this place at all cost. You are better off getting street food or fast food instead.
Live music, good beers and lots of room to sit. The food is good and generally served late. There is a special every day, ask for features. Washrooms are generally clean
The entertainment was amazingly good. Lots of ballad, Eastern and folk tunes with acoustic guitar. The food was exceptional and the prices were very reasonable. I had blackened salmon, and the dessert special which was blueberry bread putting was tasty......both a five-star. I did not come at a very busy time, a Wednesday night in September. I would highly recommend Greensleeves and hopefully, I will be back.
Great live music every night - great atmosphere
Bitchy waitresses and 5 broken taps. Paid $5 cover and the artist spent the whole time abusing his guitar instead of playing music.
Everything was excellent! We stopped for live music and drinks! Parking: Park and walk up. Wheelchair accessibility: Yes, no stairs in or out.
10 dollar cover for me and my wife..And all we had were 1 drink each..the music from the other bars bled into where we were..not the fault of Greensleeves but that is what happened..
Great bands but beer was very over priced.
Live music was awesome ,Forward Down played and they were just what the night called for ,what a party!
Great little pub, decent service, but pricey drinks.
Awesome service!
We ate there because our first choice, thankfully, was closed. The restaurant was busy, and we still got our food fast. Everything was delicious, and our waitress was awesome. Food : 5/5
Awesome pub with live music!
Nice food. Good atmosphere. Hailey was a wonderful server.
Great atmosphere and live music.
Was live music one night was nice
Excellent place for best music on George street. 2-4 different entertainers an evening. $5 cover.
The server was quick getting to me and other customers. He was also polite and friendly. The food was excellent and prepared just the way I ordered it.
Great food, great music, and great atmosphere.
Greensleeves used to have great pub food at decent prices, went there today and the prices are outrageous. $11.75 for a tiny bowl of turkey soup and $14.75 for maybe 7 or 8 onion rings! Price gouging at its finest, will not be back.
Live music and really good Fish and Chips
Awesome staff and entertainment
Good music, but not a big selection of draught.
Music was at a good level, service was great and the food was excellent!
Despite the roaring winter storm going on outside, the live music was great. Somewhat disappointed in the lack of craft beers available, but we enjoyed our evening nonetheless.
Great atmosphere with great live band that get the crowd out of their seats.
Great wings... great service... great entertainment...I kinda wish they carried a better selection of beers though.
Stopped in for a drink and a bite to eat, food was good and live music was great. The servers were extremely friendly.
Dave White keeps me coming back. Hes an amazing singer/guitar player!
Great live music, they actually play music that isnt Celtic which is rare here. Dont get me wrong, I dont mind Celtic music but every bar except this one and Jungle Jims plays it.
Lobster roll made especially for us. Can you get any better? It was delicious! Service excellence. Our server Kenzie was excellent! Thanks for the experience!
Great East Coast pub with amazingly talented musicians!
Good music and the fish was great
Went in for some beers and live music. Would have preferred local music, though.
Very busy pub on George Street. Fun place. Food was pretty good. Fabulous location
I only had one night in st.Johns and I wandered my way into this pub. Drawn in by the live music, I was treated with nothing but kindness. Glad I walked in, happily stayed for 3 hours and delighted went back to my hotel.
We went at around 1pm. Not very busy. Friendly staff. Food was ok. Food
Was jam-packed for the pedestrian mall on a lovely Wednesday. Service was prompt despite this. The homemade chicken fingers were delectable. Would return.
Always enjoy the atmosphere
$20 for 8 wings
Fun live band , good beer,
I am writing this review because after leaving this bar and walking off George St. and tuning onto Water St., just as far, we turned around to see the doorman running towards us. We had forgotten our bag. Armando, thank you so much for returning our stuff. We will never forget that moment. Thank you for looking after us.
Had a few pints and good time with friends.
Great live music
A very nice place to get something to eat and enjoy live music. I will definitely be going back again .
Thks!
$10.50 for a pint, ouch.. when the pint isnt the best.. double ouch. Not the greatest singer, kinda wished I stayed at Roys.
Outstanding live music every night of the week!
The music is great
Great meal with friends
This is a local bar Thats been a landmark in downtown down for quite some time. You should avoid this Bar later in the evening because they cant figure out where the volume dial is on their live music. I love music but they play way too loud in this place. Its impossible to have a conversation. I know downtown is the place to go to enjoy music and have fun but when the volume is this loud all you can do is suffer through Some local musician. Drink selection is poor here as well.
Great entertainment
Great place to have drinks!
pricrs are pretty high even for NF.. service good. food ok
This place is escally nice food is good but they OVERCHARGE ON SO MUCH STUFF!! We were home for a visit from the mainland and ordered 9ounce glass of Pino Geregio ?? They CHARGED $$17. FOR 9 OUNCES!!!! THIS IS WELL OVER CHARGED,!!! It only cost that much for a bottle!! I went to 3 other clubs and they charged $7.00 for the same thing! I will NEVER GO THERE AGAIN!!! THAT IS PURE GREED!!!
Great vibe, good food, choice of stouts, and Celtic music! Just go.
Food was excellent
Love this place. Great entertainment.
Good food but needs to support more local breweries!
Food was good with a great atmosphere of people milling around George St from the patio
Nachos were good, beer was good. Waited awhile on napkins and side plates. Server was friendly.
Serving staff completely ignored me...stood at both sides of the bar top prove a point 1st....manager claimed they are doing their best...., as soon as I left one side they severed the other side, no not paranoid...
Pub grub .Its ok. Service was good
My first time here, very friendly staff and the food is great
The live music and service were excellent. The Moose burger was good and fries were excellent. The Caesar Salad was drowning in dressing which was unfortunate as we were looking for something light and fresh on a very hot day.
Little pub/bar on George Street. 5 for $25 beer or seltzer are great deal. Only problem is when sitting on the patio is you are getting the music from Green Sleeves as well as martini bar across the street and the street stage just down the street. It was very annoying hearing 3 competing different songs at once. We had to leave cause it was too hard on the head. Probably be fine if you are sitting inside.
Food was good. It was quite busy and the servers were doing the best they could to keep up.
Great place for patio lunch in historic St. Johns. Live music + fantastic fresh food with wonderful service by Hope + hostess LIV! TEN STARS!
We had an awesome time here and the food was great. We had the fish and chips and the seafood chowder. My wife and I were immediately welcomed with Newfoundland hospitality and even though it was packed, we werent asked if we had reservations but were immediately found seating for the two of us. This was a welcome change from being ignored and rudely addressed at The Celtic Hearth earlier which was almost empty anyway. The Greensleeves staff were very attentive and a singer playing guitar set a wonderful dining experience that you would expect being in St. Johns. I would highly recommend Greensleeves for an authentic Newfoundland dining experience.
Couldnt get a seat on the patio because there was only one server. There were only 3 or 4 other tables with people sitting at them. The hostess and bar tender apparently dont serve customers
Good selection of beer, live music, but the chicken strips are the real MVP
Did a bit of a pub crawl on George St. today and I had the absalute pleasure of being severd by Hope, not only was she friendly kind and attentive. Not only has Hope represented Green Sleeves in a impeccable manner she is also wonderful embassador of the city of St. Johns hospotality staff. I hope to return soon for a visit
Cracker spot.....visit everytime in St.Johns.....wouldnt miss
Live music is excellent there, but and service is not so impressive. Especially, the front reception girl is just not doing her job: when we got there, nobody at the front desk and we waited for some time and finally she shew up.
Great wings and live music. Servers were very attentive considering the amount of people. Cool place.
What a wonderful place. Friendly staff and a great atmosphere
Great service and live entertainment.
Absolutely Amazing service food and entertainment. Ty from Ontario. The pan fried cod was to die for. That well worth the last night here. Ty to the crew.
Been such a long time since being over in St. Johns and the team wanted to go out for dinner. Absolutely loved the atmosphere here along with the awesome service, beer and delicious food. This will absolutely be a revisit next trip!
Do not go here if your a person of color or different backgrounds they will not serve you especially the two female bartenders that was working there tonight. Went there September 30th,2022 around 1:15am ended up walking out around 1:37am and waste of 10 dollars cover charge because the two female bartenders for some reason will not serve us especially the bigger women with the glasses. Not sure because if we were the only different race there at the bar waiting but she was willing to serve 7 other customers behind us. Even the other customers was saying why are we still waiting and why she wont serve us. I honestly couldnt give them an honest answer. I will make sure other people is aware of the racism that goes on in that establishment.
Came in to experience the live music scene in St. Johns- its great! They had non-stop artists playing, the bar was very lively, and the drinks were nice.
Nice little bar and they dont charge you just to walk in. Only place I was able to find a stout on tap as well so bonus points. Music was a bit loud for my aging ears but the content was pleasant.
Had an absolute blast here!!!
Fun times there. Some good local bands and decent food.
Awesome live music everyday
Good food great people
When Damian Follett is playing solo , great entertainment. He is a true showman. Really good restaurant food. Very busy at times.
Great place for live music and a pint. Regular blah beers on tap but every bar on George Street is the same.
Tables too close too bar and dance floor very small spot wasnt impressed by it really got my drink spelled twice because of bad seating never even offered me other drink was I would say full .
Great music and great service
Great experience as always. On this occasion, we went for the fish and chips on Good Friday, fresh and delicious. Great service.
Good time
Really nice live music. Good vibe. Super friendly staff. Food is also nice quality. Would recommend to anyone and everyone!
Always get great service and good food from Jungle Jims
Awesome place, great atmosphere, great food
Enjoyed a coffee!
Awesome as usual..great food and music
Was there for my 50th. The staff were awesome! Our servers name was Desiree and she gave us great customer service which is really hard to get these days.
Nice place
On my last visit I had cod tongues and onion rings both were delicious
Quality live music. Awesome place to go for some drinks and a good time. The crowd is quite mixed, and when the dancing gets going, it s quite a blast. I would recommend it for an evening visit!
Awesome
Loud
Green Sleeves by far has the best food on George Street. We tried the delicacy cod tongues for the first time and they were delicate and full of flavour, and the Heirloom Tomatoes and Scallop Salad had the best mix of greens with amazing dressing. There seems to be live music most afternoons and evenings. fairly priced. Bon appetite!
Went around 10:30 last night, got charged $5 for cover. Then went to the bar, ordered two regular on tap beers and the bartender charged me $25. Based on other reviews saying beers were $8-$9, I feel as though I was taken advantage of. Begrudgingly gave the bartender $25 and left immediately after finishing them. If their drink prices are actually $12.50, Id say dont go here because their drinks are severely overpriced. If the bartender took advantage of me, then Id also say dont go here
Food was ok but a little pricey.
Stopped in for a beer and fries. Fries were a little over done but I finished them anyway. Would be a nice place for a nighttime drink in lovely St Johns.
I live in Florida and every time Im back on thr rock I stop for a lobster roll and a cold beer And one of their delicious Cesars Hes always good music great staff awesome service Id give it 10 stars if I could
Chicken on my chicken burger over cooked to the point of being dried out. Fries also over cooked. My wifes salad was covered with dressing and she asked for no dressing. When the waitress asked cook about it he said it was just wet lettuce. Was the worst meal I have ever had in a pub.
Great spot to listen to some local music and grab some good food
Always a favorite!
The food was very tasty and full of flavour. The muscles and the potatoes skins were especially great tasting
Amazing fish and chips! The live music was great and added to the atmosphere! Our server was friendly and quick. The pub was clean, and had plenty of tables! Was brought here by recommendation and was not disappointed, will definitely be back for more fish and chips!
If youre under the age of 50 this isnt your bar. Also the musician isnt very good. Also everyone is really old. There are much better choices on George Street. Also... no stout, so no Irish car bombs. Seriously.
Great food and service
Live music, amazing atmosphere... simply great place to sit have a drink/food and enjoy your evening
People moving everywhere without masks last night..Dancers without masks. If Covid came in with one person, it went out with many... Will not be back there until the mask mandate ends.
Really enjoy the uptown location
Delicious Whiskey Sours!
Phenomenal meal chartered by Lose Tie and finished the evening at Green Sleeves.
Food and prices were great and the server was amazing but for a small places the music was way too loud. Couldnt even have a cut the fat while socializing with friends.
Great.
Great entertainment!
Fun times in Newfoundland
Charming pub with a great beer selection, live music and friendly staff. Wing nights on Wednesday are very popular as is the steak feature on Thursday.
Nice place for a pint and lunch. Live music is a bonus.
A staple on George Street, best live music and best staff on the block.
Good food.
Its ALWAYS too loud there, my girlfriend loves the place but we cant ever have a conversation because the music is too loud - like theyre trying to compensate for something. We went there recently to get out of the house and try to do some non-stay-at-home-covid stuff and it seems that the food prices have shot up. Service is alright.
Great place to stop and have a drink.
Live music, good pub food, friendly staff and clean washrooms!!
The service at Greensleeves is not consistent, the kitchen has no problem letting food go cold before buzzing the servers, and the servers arent expected to care.
Great stir fry
Fun place. Music and service were good. However for me I found it a bit loud...but Im older so that could be why.
Music is great, staff is friendly, drinks are good
Great vibe, awesome live music. They should definitely bring the mussels back though! So disappointed to see them off the menu!!
Great food
Great live music, friendly staff.
