Fionn MacCool's in St. John's

I was underwhelmed with the menu options on my last visit and it was a little pricey for the food which wasnt great tbh. Very comfortable seating and evening entertainment is a plus. Kid-friendliness: Kid friendly.

We had a burger, omg, likely the best burger Ive ever eaten. Super friendly staff.

Several good dishes but a typical themed chain restaurant. Second visit. Was a little loud for my liking but wasnt a big issue. Server was great 5 star. Cocktails also ok but my medium rare steak was barely warm. It was medium rare but because it was on a cold plate it wasnt even luke warm. Bottom line time steak could have been much better

This was my first visit. We had drinks which were tasty. However, when our meals were served mine was not what I ordered so they had to reorder it. Not a lot of fun having to watch someone else eat their meal while waiting for your own. Fortunately it didnt take too long so that was good. The food itself was tasty and the service was what youd expect but nothing outstanding. My beef was that I felt there should have been some effort to accommodate the servers error not ordering my correct meal. Unfortunately, no such effort was made and that has soured me in this place. It was my first visit and most likely my last.

The quality of food and service has dropped since being bought by foodtastic, a common thread for foodtastic owned restos. They esentially buy up places and run the quality into the ground. Sad because the place was awesome when they first opened in St. Johns.

Absolute garbage. We went in and waited for someone to bring us to a table that we had reserved. 5 minutes later, a waiter rudely brings us to a terrible uncomfortable table in the middle of the room, with an empty booth uncleaned right next to us. But heres the thing. There were SO MANY people around us with no food on their table, anxiously looking for their waitress / waiter to serve them. In the 20 minutes we spent at the table, we didnt see a SINGLE waiter / waitress. What kind of restaurant is that! Save your money or go to somewhere like kelseys. They actually serve you tasty food!

Steak was done wrong and they put a sauce on it I sent it back and then brought it back out with the sauce washed off and put it back on the grill making it dry

Service was great (friendly and fast) but the food wasnt good at all. Ordered all appetizers which were overpriced for the portion and quality. 17 bucks for 6 pieces of overcooked Calamari isnt acceptable. Spinich dip was Hard as a rock and the chips were unable to dip. Rib bites were okay, albeit underseasoned. The live band was also extremely loud for where we were sitting (center of the room), we had to get the waitress to repeat herself several times to hear her. The overall experience was extremely disappointing :(

The last time I ate here the service was terrible. We were told after ordering that they didnt have Regular fries, a proper bun for a burger, sour cream etc. Our first choices for food also werent available. When our order came the food was cold. I reached out to their contact form on their website to explain and heard nothing back. We wont be eating here again

Amazing spot awesome staff owner was making sure customers where satisfied witch I loved see that he was very friendly too his staff and customers ,food was amazing. There services where standing around in group I say she was flirting with 2 male servers other girl was flat out by herself couple got up lefted waiting abit 1st time ever seen that there boss or manager came in stopped told this because they all worked hard . Myself and my partner had the pleasure of spendng a few days in the hotel opposite Fionns we spent time there every day and James the manager was so good to us we enjoyed every min and we laughed so much great food awesome atmosphere, will be definitely going again when Im on newfoundland! Hey James I hope to see you Sunday in the airport for that pint buddy! As an Irish man I felt I was at home ! Thank you so much

Food was delicious and worth the price

Had some wings nachos and beer. Was a good time with some live music. Would not play my Frank Zappa request despite he was wearing a Zappa T-shirt.

My family and I frequent here. Lots of options to make everyone happy and it s always hot and delicious. The only downside is that when you unexpectedly arrive on a live music night the loudness is always shocking. Typically having to yell to order and talk amongst ourselves. We also find also find ourselves looking for a waiter, it s nice to be left alone but sometimes you need something between your food and your check. When it s busy prepare for a long food wait, it ll be worth it. Parking: Decent sized lot. Next to a hotel parking lot. Wheelchair accessibility: Accessible parking right in front of the door.

The service was horrible. I was with an international friend and he said the server was acting so racist the whole time. We asked for napkins and cutlery and the server wasted time talking with his friends at the other table. Didn t give us water until we asked for. I was never treated like that when I went there by myself. I guess he was reacting to my international friend. Hope there is a manager to take care of this issue. My friend was upset for a few days. So sad.

We stopped here after hiking at the botanical gardens. I had the shepards pie. Good food, beer and plenty of parking.

Pretty small menu! Had crispy chicken tenders as opposed to just chicken tenders, old and dried up, fries were the same just very old tasting like theyd been sitting in a warmer! Beer was cold and nice atmosphere! Ill give it another try soon, Ill try the steak next time!

We ate here the 1st night and the waiter had me laughing. He was entertaining, Im thinking his name was Jim. I can remember him telling me he has a dog that ate his pen at home. Our last night we had young Sara, who was just awesome. The fish and Chips I had both times were great. My wife had steak and mushroom stew, which was awesome. Well for the dessert, lets just say.....out of this world. You dont get this back in Ontario. Someday I hope we will be back. You all take care.

Avoid - For a restaurant with such a compact menu the time from order to eat is insane. Food was either overcooked or cold like it had been waiting for other meals to be completed and had been left on the shelf. Did not even get my water refilled during a two hour meal. Five guys burgers are far superior.

On a recent visit to St. John s I had the opportunity to try out Fionn MAcCools Restaurant. I loved the welcoming atmosphere of this Irish Pub!! I was greeted at the door and promptly shown to a table. Drink order was taken and our friendly waitress had our food on the table within 30 min. Drinks were very refreshing and the food was delicious!! I would definitely return on my next trip to St Johns.

From the moment we first entered the doors at Fionn MacCool s we were pleasantly surprised at the welcoming atmosphere. We were greeted and escorted to our table by one of the Fionn employees who was tastefully dressed in their pub attire. Our drink orders were timely taken and I was soon enjoying a refreshing yummy White Sangria. We ordered their highly recommended fish and chips that arrived freshly made and crispy. We thoroughly enjoyed our supper and make this a regular stop whenever we are in St John s The atmosphere at this pub is one that is like coming home The friendliest staff and a great place to meet up with friends and family!

It s been a while since my last visit but I can t wait to get back! Everything was perfect from the minute we walked in. Fantastic food, service and atmosphere!

Great atmosphere in the bar with live music and friendly, efficient service! Loved the spinach dip as well as the chicken sandwich and also salmon bowl! Definitely worth the visit for dinner or just drinks. O hara s beer on tap is excellent also.

My husband and I had the great pleasure of spending St. Paddys day at Fionn MacCools in St Johns. We arrived around 11.00 am and were greeted at the door and shown to a booth where we settled in for a day of good food, great music and amazing friends. The waitress came to our table within a couple of minutes and we told her that we would be there for lunch and that our daughter and son in law would be joining us for supper when they got off work for the day. She said it would be a pleasure for her to serve us all day and she was true to her word. Our drink glass never went empty before she was at our table asking if we were ready for more or ready to order food and made recommendations on what was good on the menu. We enjoyed a delicious lunch and supper and the service was above and beyond what we expected on such a busy day. Thanks to the staff and Trudy for making our day such a wonderful experience. We cant wait to visit you again the next time we are in the city. BTW, my husband said he had the best birthday ever celebrating at Fionn MacCools.

Average food in a large open restaurant. I d rather support a local true pub .

It s a shame. The food was good, but the service was so bad it felt like they did not want us there. My partner and I just got back to St Johns from a hiking trip, so we were eager for food. The restaurant was not busy, and staff were around, yet they were not helpful. We ordered an appetizer which only arrived after our main was served, once we reminded the server. After the meal was served, the waiter checked in on us once and stood at the bar talking to staff the rest of the time. We were prepared to order more drinks and dessert, but didn t because no one was willing to check in on us. It s a shame.. the food was good! The food was similar to those of a Kelsey s, Turtle Jacks or Moxy s, but the service was so poor, I would not recommend.

From 5 stars to 2......normally we love Fionns, but tonight not so much.....the picture attached is the second time my burger came out. The first time it had chunky pink sections throughout, missing its bacon skewer, and it had the wrong type of onion on it. The second time it was completely pink all the way. ( which is fine, if you do your beef in house and thats how you serve it ) but unfortunately we had 2 other burgers at our table that were cooked completely fine. I would be embarrassed send it out wrong the second time, but the staff didnt really seem bothered by it....not a place Ill return to very quick. Return Trip.....worse than before, Ive never seen service like this anywhere, our waitress could host a disappearing act. Food was burnt, after waiting almost 2 hours for burgers fries. With all the other great options in St.Johns, ill he surprised if this place lasts another year.

Had never been to Fionn MacCools before until today. Visiting St. Johns and had a gift card so decided to go there. I cant say enough about how good it was. The food was amazing!!!!! The service was excellent. We had fish and chips - best ever; and Guinnes Beef Penne. Excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Tremendous service. If you havent tried Jigs dinner, this is the place. It was delicious even though I couldnt identify everything in it. Caution regarding the salt content of the meal if you have both an appetizer and an entree.

They wouldn t honour a Fiona MacCool gift card, so we left.

I do not recommend Fionn MacCools in St. John s. I am from out of town, and my friends were raving about the food and atmosphere at FMac, so we went for dinner on a Sunday evening. Place wasn t too crowded and we were served by a lovely waitress named Megan. She was very friendly however unprofessional in having to look at our drink menu to see if she knew how to make the drink I ordered. We asked at least 4 times for music to be turned on out on the patio where we were sitting and it never was. The three of us ordered appetizers and entrees and everything was brought to the table at one time, which meant our entrees got cold waiting for us to finish appetizers. All in all it was just very bad service from this restaurant location. Would take a lot to change my mind for a return visit.

Horrible. Just left. Hosts no smile throw meals on table. Table and booth were full of crumbs. Ordered are drinks but ended up leaving right away. Unwelcoming atmosphere. Waiters seem sad. No one in there smiled once at us. Could get out of the quick enough

Fionn s is my new favourite spot in the St. john s area. Awesome food, cold beer and great music. Bri was our server and she was phenomenal! So nice to finally have some friendly and excellent service at a restaurant. Live music started around 7pm and we sang along to every song! Atmosphere is welcoming and I would have no problem spending an evening there to have some drinks with friends. 10/10 recommend!

So my mother and I stopped in to grab some take out. This is the third time we ve been, and I have to say, not once has this restaurant disappointed us. I wish I d taken a picture of my food, but I ate it too fast. This time around I got the burger with a Caesar salad side. My mother ordered the beef with button mushrooms in sauce with the side of Yorkshire and veggies. My god the burger was cooked to perfection, just a hint of light pink. The beef and mushrooms were cooked in a sauce that was sooooo delicious I wish I could ve had it. I don t know if it s because you have set recipes that actually get followed or you ve had the same great cooks all these visits, but whatever it is keep it up. As for the staff, it goes without saying very pleasant, friendly and easy going. Atmosphere is relaxed and great music entertainment in the evening. Overall this is the place to check out, have food that doesn t disappoint and some live music to sing or humm along with.

We found the place to be cold and we had to eat our 200 dollar meal with our coats on .The appetizer took half hour ( cheese fries ) The main meal took an hour. It wasnt even busy .The fastest thing to come to the table was the cheque. NEVER AGAIN !!!!

Service was fine but the food was incredibly shoddy. We were a patio table of six and ordered the nachos which were cold stale chips, no salsa, the fried pickle and mozza stick plate (not sure what its actually called, can only comment on the pickle which popped out of its fried batter and was pretty meh) and the calamari, which was not like any calamari our table had ever seen before - the pieces were not rings and were cut too thick. I wouldnt recommend and probably wont go back.

Hey was dealing with a grandson needing a burger for dinner. Got the kids meal at Maccool. Was a bit cheesed off that they offered it at a different price than the online order system. 10 bucks instead of something like 8.99. Why do companies have websites but dont keep them up to date. So I bought it and was pleasantly surprised. Burger was a good size. They included french fries & condiments. He loved it! The restaurant & staff did a great job!

Please train your staff not to interrupt your guest when they are in conversation. Do not serve fish that is so thin it could be used as writing paper and please please please serve proper fries not soggy wet leftovers . That were in the tray well pass their shelf life . It s an insult to your patrons.

Ate at Fionn MacCools last night and had the Fish Tacos...BIG MISTAKE. It was more like coleslaw tacos with a fish nugget laid on top. They should be ashamed to serve this is a fishing province. When the waitress came to ask how everything was, I told her that they were pretty skimpy on the fish, but she was basically a child and didnt know what to say...but did come back and say later that thats the way it comes!!! Pretty sad excuse from her and/or the kitchen. For $17.50 it was a rip-off as it probably cost them $0.50 for the 3 fish nuggets I got! Terribly disappointed. I wish I had taken a photo to add to this review and I wish I had also asked for a manager as I got nowhere with a young girl as a waitress. Poor customer service to just brush off a customer complaint of the meal you were served in a restaurant. Guess they dont care...they got $25 for basically nothing!

All was fine except the fries were apparently twice cooked. I suspect left over from the lunch hour because they were very, very dark brown and mostly small scraps. I also strongly suspect they were left holding at a lower than required temperature from food safety standards before reheating because half hour after I left there diarrhea was the result. Lesson is dont eat the over brown fries especially if they seem like left over scraps. Twice there now -- first and last.

Best Fish and Chips in town! Great service even with some novice servers! They sure know how to make a Ceasar as well! Will be a mainstay for us as long as things the level of service and food remains!

I was glad that I had made reservations because there is absolutely no space for people waiting. We had to wait for the server to clean the table (despite the reservations ) so we ended up sitting on wet chairs and putting our things on a wet table. The drink that I asked to server to recommend, was disgusting. She replaced it. Both took far too long to get. Service was terrible. I read the reviews beforehand, and read small portions in many. Small portions is a generous statement. I had to get something to eat when I left. Not only were the portion s small, but my steak was a huge disappointment. I usually dont complain, but the whole experience was disappointing. I told the server I wasnt happy with my meal, that I left on the plate....minus the potatoes, and she just smiled and said Im sorry. This is my first review Ive ever written but I feel like its not a place for *dinner*.....maybe if you just want to sit at the bar ( and not hear your guests) because of the extremely loud one man band and have a few drinks, it would be a different experience. As well, the only way this restaurant is getting 5 stars is the friends, and family of owners. It is the worst food, and service there is. Also, this fake e-mail the owners/managers give you doesnt work. Not that I would ever use it. If I was given a free night with friends I wouldnt subject them to the everything horrible about this place.

Great pub style food, live local music after 7pm.

No condiments on the hamburger burger whatsoever, fish was over cooked, coleslaw was not good at all and the dressing was dried and hard. The tater sauce was another thing,simply just mayo. We did not enjoy our meal here whatsoever. Nachos were the only good thing. 2 /10

Great selection, excellent drinks

I wish there were 10 stars because thats what this restaurant deserves! My son and I came to town to do some last minute Christmas shopping, staying in the Fairfield so we decided we would go for wings. We were greeted and seated upon entry and within minutes we had our soft drinks. James was outstanding and his service was top notch! His friendly and down to earthness was a pleasure. The food was flavourful and hot. Steak done to perfection and so were our wings, juicy yet crispy! Will definitely be a regular on our visits to town!

Service was great, but the food was lack luster. My burger was as dry as cardboard, and the steak was bland, needed seasoning.

Everything about this place is beautiful! The employees, the music, the food! Wonderful customer service! When we arrived the waiter did not give up until he found us a table, they were quite busy so it was a little wait for the food but the bartender kept us well entertained during our wait! Once we got our food it was so delicious! HIGHLY recommend you come here the live music was fantastic as well!

We ordered food for delivery and some items didnt come as we expected (wrong buns). Long story short, they promptly re-did the order and hand delivered it within 30 mins. Amazing customer service

Service was great For was mediocre Ordered a chicken fingers meal and got 5 boneless bites and fries. If I wanted boneless wings I wouldve ordered wings. It was more of an appetizer than a meal. Ive been to the one in London and it was much better. Ill chalk it up to covid as they are just reopening. Hopefully they can remedy this and start getting back to normal.

Long Island ice tea was good. One star. Fries undercooked so we sent them back only to get burnt fries back. My ceasar salad had coleslaw dressing on it 3 people 2 adults one child 80 bucks!! Not worth it... plenty other spots nearby Server was very nice but ultimately the food was so bad that it didnt matter... one star.

I had the chicken fingers meal and they were some of the best chicken tenders Ive had in a long time. The meat was tender and moist, the breading not too thick, and the honey garlic sauce was excellent. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food (compared to other chain restaurants).

I took my daughters there and we was seated within a few mins but then another couple came in 5 mins later and they got served and drinks and we still hadnt seen anyone. It was very disappointed. Then after 10 mins later we up and left and didnt see anyone we waited over 20 mins. Also realized the night before she didnt get her desert with her kid meal. The food is good but service is slow.

The waitress we had was neglecting us to talk to people at another table, it looked as if they were friends. Due to that, the service was horrible, waiting over 30 minutes to get our bill. The prices are on the higher side of things, and the food isnt good enough for that to be reasonable, you can definitely get better food for less elsewhere. My french fries were also so soggy that they could bend in half without breaking.

Popped in for a beer and a snack. Husband ordered Buffalo Ranch Chicken Fingers and they were a perfect snack between us...super tasty atop the waffle chips. Nice atmosphere. Not enough time spent there to give 5 stars...but, thumbs up :)

40 min wait for wings and fries, despite not being busy. Food was nothing special. Server was very friendly. Was pricey.

Good place for a dinner reservations but long wait times.

decided to give this place a second try after a not super great first visit. It wasnt overly busy (counted at least 5 empty tables around us) and there were lots of staff around. After being seated and handed menus no one so much as glanced in our direction to even take a drink order. We waited for 23 minutes before calling it a quits and heading somewhere else for supper. I wont be going back.
