The kitchen was OK but nothing more. Of the 3 dishes ordered, there were only the pork dumplings that I enjoyed. The sushi lacked flavor and the oriental salad with pork belly lacked vegetable diversity. On the other hand, the decor is magnificent!!!

LIVE used to be my favourite restaurant in the city. Food and service used to be perfect but my recent visit changed my mind quickly. We sat in the patio and the server didn t seem to care at all which was the exact opposite of my previous experiences there. Long story short, it seems its no longer in the good tier restaurants of the city.

Best dinner experience we had on our recent trip to St. Johns! The sushi rolls were delicious, as were the appetizers and cocktails. We had the Chicken Shumai app and the Sunset, Firecracker and Maguro rolls. Friendly service and a cool, conversational atmosphere. Worth a visit!

First visit and we will definitely go back! Great place, great menu, great staff!!! Food

Food was amazing! So flavourful, so glad to find an amazing restaurant in the city! You won t be disappointed.

Stopped in on a weekday with no reservation. Seated immediately. We had a couple drinks el pepino for me and a paper plane for my spouse. Both were excellent. For food we had some share plates. The firecracker roll was delicious. The chicken shu mai was tasty but in my opinion you just cant beat the original pork shu mai. The real star was the duck bao with cherry sauce, I couldve eaten those all night. Highly recommend LIV. If I was staying in town longer I would go back in a heartbeat.

Have eaten here twice and the food and service is excellent. Sushi and Sharables were delicious. Will definitely be back.

Food was descent service too but music level was out of this world. Felt like an after party.

My wife and I dined here for the first time in early December, while visiting the city, and were extremely impressed. The food was great, the cocktails were exciting, and the service was really exceptional. This was our top dining experience in St.John s next to Raymond s, which unfortunately no longer exists. We highly recommend LIV for a fun dining experience! We dined here again in late June while visiting the city - another wonderful evening of great/fun cocktails, high quality food, and exceptional service. A really great restaurant with a unique vibe. Really recommend this place!

Coming from California (Palm Springs/LA area) I m spoiled with a lot of great bar options. Liv in St. John s is one of the best that I ve ever been to! The food, service and upstairs bar make for an awesome night with friends - or even solo. They started a Sunset Rave this summer with a DJ on the upstairs patio - make sure you don t miss it. Special shoutout to the man who effortlessly makes the bar run smoothly and can jump in for a spontaneous DJ set - Pablo! He knows how to run a restaurant. And bartender Ahbi showed patience and kindness during a busy night. He s a gem. Thanks all!!

Good food, staff are fun and attentive, mostly reasonable pricing

Lovely meal last night at Liv. Service was great. The food was delicious and well presented. We had the bi bim bap sizzling bowl with pork belly and sesame crusted tuna which were both amazing. Highly recommend and we will be back!

This was our 2nd time coming there. 1st time it was amazing. The food was fresh, drinks were on point, and the 2nd time we took our daughter there and it was not worth it. The food was lackluster. We ordered several sushi rolls, but the mango roll we ordered, the mango was so unripe, no chef should have allowed that out of the kitchen. You could clearly tell as it lacked color, looked like it was dried out, and totally unripe. Told this to our waitress and it seemed like it was a burden to bring it back. I said to take it back but verify with the kitchen if the mango was gonna be ripe and if she couldnt then I didnt want it. Opted to get a crab roll instead since she didnt want to get them to make another and it turn out the same. Took nearly 30 mins on a refire as that should have taken president over the other orders. When she came back to check on us I advised her I didnt want it as its been nearly 30 mins for a simple roll, but miraculously the roll was ready. The other rolls were falling apart once picked up, so that clearly shows they were not tightly wrapped. For nearly 20 a roll Id be expecting better. Not once was there an apology for the level of service, we didnt even have a manager come over as we were completely disappointed in this experience. I understand it might have been busy, and I didnt want to have my daughter embarrassed with bringing a manager over as it was taking quite some time. We will not be coming back again if this is how the service goes.

The food here is outstanding. We had the tenderloin and Korean fried chicken bowl; which were both excellent. The mojitos are the best in the province having that perfect balance between mint, simple syrup and lime. The vibe and music is fabulous and the servers are excellent. Our favourite spot to dine.

Had such an amazing time at Liv Restaurant! The steak tenderloin was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the duck wings were absolutely awesome. The cocktails were so tasty, especially loved the Paper Plane. And cant forget to mention the sushi - it was perfection. 10/10 would recommend!

Seriously think this is the best food I had in St. John s, dishes are clearly well thought out and the combination of flavours work so well together, it all tastes so so good, had the Korean Chicken Rice Bowl and could easily sit down and eat it all day! Drinks and service were wonderful. Atmosphere is nothing like I saw in town, made me feel like I was in Toronto or something. Highly recommend this spot to those craving some really good food and a memorable night out!

Food lately at Liv has been wildly inconsistent. Some dishes really top notch and others a real disappointment. Tonight had Singapore noodles, was flavourless and completely mushy.

Sunday night Dim Sum! The moment we walked in we felt the warmth of the decor and welcoming staff. The drinks were balanced and tasty. Cheyenne our server was amazing, very knowledgeable and personable. Now on to the food, WOW! Second time having the dim sum menu and it definitely does not disappoint. We almost tried everything on the menu but had to go back to our favourites. Our compliments to the chef ! Every dish was so flavourful and unique. 10 out of 10 would recommend !

Had an awesome dinner here and service was top notch. Props to staff and management who remained opened and honoured Valentines day reservations during the storm while many other businesses downtown closed. Meal was great but what really made our evening was the level of service provided (his name was Pablo, I think?) He went above and beyond to take care of us, recommended dishes + wine, and clearly cares about providing a great atmosphere for customers. Also managed to make time for conversation with ourselves and other patrons in the bar despite being the only front of house staff. Will be back for sure

The servers are great and the space is comfortable. While the dishes and cocktails are overall inventive and tasty, I felt like they were all too sweet or too salty. I wouldnt mind a bit more balance within each dish and drink. All that being said, I wouldnt hesitate to go back to LIV for a fun dinner out with friends.

By far one of the best experiences I have ever had. The servers and bartender were so nice and they were more than accommodating. The tuna tartare was fresh and delicious, and the LIV roll and spicy crab roll was delectable. This is my second time coming here ever and it is one of my favourite spots to get sushi and fusion plates downtown St. Johns. Cheers to the front and back of house tonight, you were all fabulous.

Food and cocktails were all incredible, service was on point, and vibes super fun! Already excited to go back and try more of their menu offerings.

I see a ton of potential for this place and understand what they re trying to do with it! Definitely a unique spot in St.John s. Loved the vibe, the service was great! Adored the presentation of the food that was served. I ordered a few things off the menu to try and share, was not overly impressed. I must say though the duck wings and crab dumplings are phenomenal! The noodles were a disappointment and I was looking forward to those the most along with the shrimp bao which I found unappetizing. We decided to try one more item the kung pao chicken which did not do it for me. These items really lacked flavour in general. It s too bad because I think this place has it in them to be great!

Had the ramen and korean fried chicken, both were delicious and authentic that were coming back for the food alone. The service was prompt and the servers were friendly, and the atmosphere was perfect for a saturday evening. Dim lights and loud music gives your party some privacy. We were also given free shots (lychee mango ones) and those were great! Highly recommend this place

The duck and tuna tartare was good; however, the bossam and sushi roll was awful. Traditionally, bossam is served hot; however, it was served cold here. When asked if bossam is supposed to be cold, they said it s supposed to be served cold. They did end up heating it for us, which made it taste much better than when it was cold. I wish they had looked more into the preparation of dish before slapping the name, bossam, on a piece of meat and pretending it was something it was not. The bossam dish is closer to jokbal, in terms of visuals and how it s served as it s more common to eat cold jokbal than cold bossam. For the sushi, it didn t look good, nor did it taste good. As well, the rice to filling ratio was really disappointing.

This is a must-place to go if you are in St Johns and looking for a good place to have a nice dinner. You will not be disappointed by having a different experience.

Fantastic service, food and drinks.

Today was my first time eating at Liv but it wont be my last. Greeted by friendly staff and our server was great fabulous. Checking on us just enough and ensured we had all we needed. Excellent variety on their menu. Myself and my friend had a few of their shareable plates and it was perfect! Looking forward to going back to try other items on their menu. Vegetarian options: Much of their menu is vegetarian friendly and for those that eat seafood.

The food is always delicious. The servers are very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We were very happy with their recommendations!

Good experience, disappointed because the food was not all brought out at once and one of the meals was brought out 20 minutes after everyone else s. Overall good menu and selection. High quality. Atmosphere is good, music somewhat loud. Love the energy of the servers and bartenders.

We were a chefs worst nightmare. Last minute walk ins. But we got delicious food nonetheless. Staff are always great in here. A firm favourite.

Food was incredible. Both the tuna and the salmon sushi were beautifully done. The layers of flavours were so enjoyable, and an experience you won t get at your regular sushi joint. Hats off, I will be back. Vegetarian options: Mushroom sushi was delicious!

Fun new spot in the heart of downtown. As usual we had to try out this new spot downtown. Went on a Saturday night and they had a DJ there which was a nice change of music, nothing obnoxious, fun and vibrant. Decor is really modern and fun with a really cool dark vibe. Menu is good (very Asian inspired) from what we experienced. We are mostly small plate type of people who typically get 3 or 4 apps instead of mains. I have to say the apps we tried were good, broccoli roll, grilled octopus, wonton tacos. My only kind of gripe was the apps seem too similar, lots of different sushi rolls and salmon/seafood options which only I enjoy but I feel like there could be room for a little more variety and lots of room for neat new ideas (Asian/Mediterranean inspired nachos) etc. Afterwards our bill was upwards of 100$ and we felt like we still needed to pop over to another spot for something different but we would have gladly stayed with the atmosphere if there were more smaller plate variety. Overall definitely going to go back, the atmosphere is fun, modern decor which is clearly cared about, good service, but again slightly limited on variety of apps.

Amazing for a date night!

Obsessed with this new restaurant! The best atmosphere for a fun girls night! I would 100% recommend for anyone visiting St. Johns, NL!

Found a pile of dust and dirt in my vegetable tempura after eating half of it. The chicken tasted fine but no way to know if there was dirt in there too, and I ate it all. Id like to rate the restaurant higher than 1 star but I really cant based on this experience. It was gross.

Not much to say about Liv. The cocktails were delicious, staff was nice, pretty decor and the servers wore cute floral shirts. The vibe was a bit lacklustre and flat. We had a Smokey the Beer, a scotch and beer blend cocktail; it was nice and well balanced. And the Cleopatra s Bramble, it was quite beautiful and delicious it was like a really fancy lemonade for adults. The prices were a bit steep but it was a nice place to have a drink and move on.

Shared an entirely gluten free meal with friends. Korean chicken and charred broccoli were my favourite! Loved the basil gimlet!

Service was so embarrassing. Went with a big group, spent a lot of money on food and alcohol. Left a good tip on the bill and the server had the nerve to complain that the tip wasn t enough. We left an 18% tip which is standard, but the server cried it wasn t enough and demanded more in cash. Disgusting. Won t be back.

I was very excited to try LIV, as the menu looked quite interesting. The space is lovely, really beautiful decor, and our waiter was very friendly and attentive. However, the food was disappointing. We went in a group, each ordering at least two things, and between us we had ordered about 3/4 of the menu options, so we really got to try most things. The food was presented well, but it was just underwhelming in flavor, one dish tasting overwhelmingly of burnt broccoli. The dishes were also quite small portions. We all left still hungry, which is saying something when youre dropping $40-$50 each on your meal. What ultimately made the experience unpleasant was that a large party arrived for what appeared to be someones birthday, and they completely crowded about half of the restaurant, including where we were seated. They were standing inches from us, and having strangers backsides in your face while youre trying to eat is not my idea of a good time. We couldnt wait to leave. I imagine youd have a nice time here having drinks and a small bite on a night out, but I wouldnt recommend going if youre hungry and want a satisfying sit-down dinner.

What a great restaurant. The menu is very unique with bold flavours. A must go to place in St. Johns. Vegetarian options: Vegan and Gluten free options were clearly marked on the menu.

My meal was absolutely amazing! Dan the chef, puts out some really tasty dishes. And dont get me started on the bartender, Teresa. I will be back and everyone should go there too! 10/10 thank you so much, Liv!

Loved every second of our visit. The food was Korean inspired and done so well. The Bartender Megan knows how to whip together a great cocktail. We were greeted by the most friendly lady named Teresa; from start to finish a grade A experience. A must do in st Johns for exceptional cocktails and great food!

This new restaurant is a great addition to St. Johns. Staff are welcoming, the atmosphere and decor is warm and classy, food is good, cocktails are creative and tasty. Love the hip hop playlist, played at a decent volume. I liked it when the bar staff started singing along to the songs! Keep it up!

Fantastic service with a great atmosphere! Keely was fabulous, friendly and just great to be around. The pancake and ribs were our favorite, but all plates were eloquently prepared to the highest standard. If youre looking for a lively, upbeat restaurant with a unique flair, this is a place to visit!

Sadly the worst place Ive eaten in years. After a recommendation we were excited to eat here but we were pretty disappointed. The food is below average (youd be better ordering from SkipTheDishes) but the ambience was the worst part of the experience. We ate at 8 30pm and the room was almost pitch black and the music was so loud that none of the tables were able to talk to each other. It only got worse with a DJ starting at 9pm. If there was somewhere to dance it wouldnt be awful but this is meant to be a restaurant. Everyone looked miserable. We wont be coming back nor suggesting others to. This being said; the savings Grace was that the staff were friendly and the food service was fast.

Unfortunately, a poor experience. We ordered the Grilled Octopus, Tuna Omakase and Tempura Vegetables. The Octopus came out room temperature and the serving size was small. Tuna was well presented but also a very small portion. You would get twice the portion at other sushi restaurants. The Tempura was ok. Music was loud and unpleasant Katy Perry hits. Overall, for the price of the meal I wont be going back.

Had a fantastic meal at LIV, tried 5 plates and they were all exceptional. Great vibe at the restaurant - they did a terrific job with the Reno s, a DJ there tonight - loved. Looking forward to another visit and trying more items. SOOO good! Congrats to the crew and Kristen, our server, was excellent too!
