Everything I was hoping for in an Irish pub. Excellent music, story telling, nice ambiance, good food and laughter! I did quite a bit of search to find the right place for my appetite amongst the music venues and I am happy that I invested the time to do that. I made a reservation for a table close to the stage but I suppose that may have not been required. When we arrived, a group of musicians were jamming and playing around a large table before Fergus O’Byrne started playing his songs. Purely folklore and wonderfully performed. For the meal, I had the Veggie quesadilla which was a good portion and tasty and YellowBelly Pale Ale. It was a memorable night for sure!
Great live singer and atmosphere is ok. Unfortunately, staff aren't very friendly as I was expecting, comparing to other restaurants we've been in St John's. I ask why there's no Kilkenny and Guinness in a supposed to be a famous Irish pub and all I got to was a "I don't know and and a shoulder shrug" We also book Friday night, which supposed to be the salt beef junkies performing and looks like it change to someone else. Which is not a big deal. But I'm really disappointed with not having Guinness and Kilkenny. . Also not worth paying extra $8 + tax for a stage view. Looks like everyone inside the restaurant have stage view while we were there.
A great place for a drink and some live music - I really enjoyed the show. We just stopped in for a couple of drinks, but will come back to eat next time! Wonderful atmosphere, wait staff are friendly.
My favorite Irish pub in town. Nice ambiance every night with real Celtic and irish band music. Amazing and gentle staffs. The bar has two big terrasses et it is very specious inside
Very oily fish, I suspect it was cooked at the wrong temperature and absorbed too much oil, would not recommend. The music was too loud to speak.
O'Reilly's Irish Newfoundland Pub is a gem! Their buffalo chicken nachos are insanely good, loaded with spicy chicken, melty cheese, and all the fixings. The chips, dressing, and gravy are the perfect comfort food combo—crispy, flavorful, and smothered in rich gravy. Tyler was awesome and friendly, addressing our allergy concerns with care. A must-visit spot for great eats and a cozy vibe!
Two nights in a row. Great music and fun atmosphere. If you're looking for more traditional East Coast music... this is the place. The crowd is good, all ages. Beer flows freely, and you have a good choice. Kitty vitty Fighting Irish Red was good.
I was here for the "cocktail hour" of a wedding, and liked it so much I came back the next day to grab take out too. We had everything from cod bites to bacon wrapped scallops to meatballs and everything in between. Food was excellent and service was great. The salt n vinegar chip crusted cod bites were the big winner among our crowd. Highly recommended. I also had a moose burger! Excellently cooked and a great assortment of toppings. Will be back to try the moose nachos too the next time I'm in St. John's. Best place on the George St. strip.
Didn t eat here but really enjoyed the atmosphere and beer
Fantastic pub. Love this place. Do yourself a favor and visit this pub. Lovely entertainment and atmosphere.
A traditional pub, with lively music, good food, and friendly service, on George Street.
If you are going to charge over $4 for a coffee (that I understand includes refills) please please please make a STRONG/decent cup.
Great!!!
The music is very local. Its really gone. The drinks are OK, but a little expensive. A dollar or two. Also, I dont understand why they charge for a cover. I recommend for a local experience of Newfoundland. Dont touch the food.
Great beer and entertainment. They performed a screeching in for us. Great time as always. Oir go to place downtown.
Hello everyone, I tell you the food in this pub is surprisingly delicious!!! We ordered some mussels, very well served and a Classic poutine, the live music was very nice and the people were very lively dancing, the only thing is that the dinos are a little poorly served (the distilled ones), we had a good time Regards
Went in Saturday night, got ided at the door then a random drunk guy claiming he works there says show me ur id , starts getting aggressive, even tho the guy at the door came in confirmed he ided us stares us down starts getting in my friends face ! We obviously left after this man ruined our night ! You all really need to hire someone who u understands the job n isn t drunk by 2:15 on a Saturday night on his job lol !
Visited on a Saturday night around 2:15 got ided by a guy at the door some guy with glasses brown started demanding id we told him we got ided by this guy at the door the guy confirmed, and this guy got in ma face show me ur id show me ur id ! Probably being racist , me and all my friends obviously left ! But seriously we were regulars at some point but O Reilly do better , making your regulars leave isn t a good look for business!!
Visiting from Toronto, here for a Saturday night, me and my folks walk in , id all of us all good at the door this guy lets is in literally step in another guy is like id we told him we got ided already the outside third guy comes in our faces with an attitude , staring at us , like seriously bruh ! His eyes were all weird probably either high or drunk, we had to leave it was so uncomfortable. I am visiting but i have friends who live here and go here alot! They wont anymore ! Thanks to the one rude aggressive security (maybe) that u hired
While visiting St Johns Newfoundland from Florida. I had to stop in for a bite. Every Sunday morning I hear Brenda OReilly talk about the pub on Jiggs and Reels. So I had me a Newfoundland favorite The hamburger. It did not disappoint cooked perfectly with fresh well positioned vegetables and sauce. The wait staff was fast and friendly. A large Washroom also. I will return.
An Irish pub that doesnt have Guinness or Kilkenny, either on draught or in bottles or cans? Really???
Hit & miss with service. Went on a Thursday and couldn t get service. Went over to greensleeves and was served phenomenally (same amount of people in there) Went on the following Saturday and same thing, we got served and then never checked on again. Ever. Had to go up the bar and get everything from additional drinks to our bill. But it is your classic St. John s pub, so if you want the ambience, it s fantastic. If you want service, you have to do it yourself.
Fun place for the music but the door staff did not give me my change, $10, for entry fee.
Fab find for live music.the burlington welsh ladies chorus there foe harbourvoices sang our welsh national anthem and did some Irish dancing
The salt & vinegar fish and chips is very good.
Great experience, good food and live entertainment.
The food was really good, had the seafood chowder and the deep fried pickles, delicious. However, the service was meh... The girl at the bar very pleasant and friendly she had good customer service skills, also the waiter who served us friendly and nice smile. But the waitress that showed up late and another guy who litterly was dismissive to our the bar maid, turned us off the experience. Terrible customer service. The bar was dark, limited lightning we asked if they could turn them on crickets, another customer asked the waitress that showed up late the same question she said sure I will look into this, but again did not do anything about it. 2 customers ended up leaving.
We enjoyed the Kitchen Party much better than the one in Francois,
Great evening with live music and lively environment. Just what us From Away-ers needed. Our table was in a cozy corner (maybe a wee bit too cozy ) but it didnt hamper our enjoyment of the evening. We stuck with fish and chips, which was a decent meal. Service was very friendly but a bit slow, but we werent in a hurry.
Food is disgusting tastes like a cold plate from Bidgoods so if thats what you want by all means go right ahead and gobble it down its probably the only spot where i would consider McDonalds to be a better option!
Great place to visit in St Johns
Wandered here after a boat tour and a nap. The beer battered fish was amazingly crispy and light, and the live band was very talented. Would visit again. Food
Horrible experience! Not worth it don t go. Service was terrible and guys at the entrance were rude and offensive.
Great Fathers Day evening. Awesome live music great food great drinks.
Big shout out to Gillian! She made my Screeching In a wonderful experience!! Thank you Gillian!
0 service after more than 15 mins with servers all walking around - walked out after that.
Best seafood chowder! It had huge pieces of fish and seafood. So good. Great live music. Good service too.
An institution on George St. Dropped in for a few pinta and some fish and chips. The salt and vinegar batter is a game changer! Decent pub fare, great ambiance, especially when the live music kicks in. Kid-friendliness: Staff were acccommodating. Kids were welcomed until 8pm(ish).
We followed two fellows with guitars into this place. The Irish/Newfy have was great. The setup is nice, with room between tables, a dance floor, easy to listen to music or retreat to the back for conversation. Great evening for us.
Wow, just wow. I has Faith as my server and she was beyond amazing!!! Her food recommends were spot on and she was just a darling taking exceptional care of us even though she was insanely busy. I highly recommend the red curry mussel and get the bread. Cant recommend this place enough
Great atmosphere, especially with the live band having a blast! The seafood chowder was great!
Thanks Grace for making our first visit to O Reilly s memorable Amazing service, amazing food, a fabulous time. Hope to see you again soon. Cheers
Great food, wonderful musicians, the service was amazing
Fantastic place for St.Paddys Day celebration
If you want to feel like Norm from Cheers while you are away from home, this is the place! Without a doubt, this pub has the most welcoming staff out of anywhere that we have been in Newfoundland. Damien, Faith, Rob, and Luka remembered my partner and I each time we went back and truly made us feel at home. They answered our endless questions about Newfoundland, the history of the bar and area, and the great musicians who were on their stage. The first time we made a return trip it was for the music, great bar food, and great drinks but we continued to return to see those welcoming faces and we knew that we were going to have a great time. Don t miss this place!
Too expensive
Great pub, music was very good.
Perhaps our best local eating experience in St Johns last week. Musicians on stage that could have been at a concert, excellent service and local food and drink. If youre looking for a genuine Newfoundland cultural experience, OReillys did it for us brilliantly on our first evening in St Johns.
The live music was great, the fried pickles and the cheddar beer bacon dip. Our server was attentive and friendly. We re visiting from Ontario and had the best time!
This place may be overstimulating for people with auditorial sensitivities but otherwise Its a great place to embrace the friendly and exuberant music scene of St Johns with a wide variety of food.
Ordered through skip the dishes order was all messed up. 5 meals was Missing one meal completly and add-ons to another... still paid for it all... just wanted a good meal before heading to the airport. Disappointed.
Good food drinks and service
My favourite George Street bar by far. Awesome bar. Beer is a little expensive even by George street standards
Went on Tuesday night . Loved the live entertainment. We got screeched in ,had so.e local beers and some really good food. The moose nachos and the fish and chips were great.
Great burgers seafood chowder, live music Saturday night was awesome
This was a lovely experience for us from the mainland. We had the loviest waitress Kate! She was so friendly, had great suggestions. We had the seafood chowder. The presentation was beautiful and the chowder was stuffed with so much seafood that it was both filling and delicious.. the cod s tongues were okay but seemed over done. Still very edible. Now the bread pudding was great. Our waitress Kate was attentive but not over bearing, thoughtful and interested. She did the Screeched In ceremony beautifully. The pub was fun, local musicians were really good. A super place for those of us from away to enjoy the St. John s famous hospitality. Really great place!
Our waitress,Kate, was awesome screeched us in! Great food and entertainment. Highly recommend
No complaints. Pub was not busy, service was good. Ordered the one piece fish and chips. Was decent. Moose burger was enjoyable according to my husband. A bit pricy. Our meal with a tip was $50+ and we only had our small entrees with water. Seems most places in St. John s are $$$$.
Some outstanding singers and the food was quite good, as well. The lava cake dessert was perfect.
Beer battered muscles were just okay. Service was okay. Lots of people of all ages. Music was good but we were hoping for more Irsh tunes. Parking: New to St. Johns had no idea where to park close.
I was with a group of 8 people on a Friday night - a mixed group of my friends and our children who are young adults of legal drinking age. We were mistreated and antagonized by staff members. I e-mailed the bar on Friday night and have had zero response. If I have a negative experience with a business I prefer to contact them privately to allow them an opportunity to correct it. I am not a fan of public shaming on social media. However due to the lack of acknowledgement here I am. The party of the 8 of us who attended on that night all agree that we will no longer frequent this establishment. I recommend anyone to get their Irish experience at Shamrock City or Bridie Molloys.
Great spot, awesome atmosphere.
I went for the live music and had a great time, but there was a $10 entrance. Not the worst, but there are many bars that are cheaper. The entrance fee is not the reason for the 3 stars, as I understand the band needs to make a living and covers are normal parts of bars. What got me was the $10 beers. No macro-brewed domestic draught is worth $10 in my opinion so paying $11 after tip seems steep, especially when the same beer is 30% cheaper at similar bars on George. Its definitely worth going to enjoy the atmosphere and live music, just expect to be spending significantly more than other bars.
Amazing food fun and music
We got screeched in...great atmosphere...not very big but the owner is funny and friendly
Slow Service/Food is Average/ Music is Friggin Awesome
Dietary restrictions: Gluten Free fish & chips is a rare find! They were delicious! Food
Best place EVER!
Great time and great live music
Great staff, live music, and food and drinks. This place has not change. Still a great place
good atmosphere, expensive drinks - $23.50 for two whiskey sours made with sour mix. great live music though
The fish and chips were excellent. Friendly, prompt service and the music was amazing
OReillys offers high quality live music along with excellent pub fare. Our whole group couldnt be accommodated, but, its certainly worth a visit.
Always a favorite when home in nfld best moose stew
Popped in on a Sat night ($10 cover), and found a spot upstairs where we could still see the band that night (Kitchen Parti, they were AMAZING, check them out). Our server wasnt too bothered by much, pretty indifferent and probably not wanting to deal with anything but drink orders, but we wanted to try the local fare, so we ordered the chowder (STUFFED with seafood, creamy, flavorful), the cod tongues (nice batter, texture is an acquired taste), and the fish and chips (batter is a little thick, but fish is meaty and tender). Was surprised there werent more local ciders on tap, theres one on the menu, but the server said they only had cans of Strongbow. Overall, authentic pub experience, that was really elevated by Kitchen Parti. The pub is located conveniently on George Street if youre staying nearby.
So much, Newfie fun! Love the live music and the nachos are meant to be shared. Great culture!
Went to go into the bar but there is a roooe across the door. Waited there not once but twice during my weekend in St Johns and both times the girl was in the alley on her phone. Poor service.
Awesome place! Great staff and good prices! Cant wait to come back!
Whole street has all kinds of music and food unique place every tourist who visits St.johns go there that how popular it is .
Nice pub, good grub and a proper Guinness. Service was awesome and helpful.
My order was through Skip the Dish s There were no fries and the 1 piece of warm fish was placed in the middle of the cooler salad. I ate the fish & most of the salad even though it was not @ the correct temperature!
Great Moose Burger. The salsa was very good and the atmosphere was fun with the small group playing.
Disgusting food (rabbit pie, jig dinner, stew), awesome server, gross bathrooms and 2 totally awesome Newfie bands. That s what we got for our one visit here.
We went during the day before our flight left. The service was good and the beer cold. They have two VLT machines and we actually both won a nice little pot o gold lol.
Enjoyed the traditional music while we ate.
Great food and drink.. Happy happy
A great meal and greater entertainment!
Great pub to have a drink and socialize.
Had an amazing night there, the ambiance was awesome and the band was great!
They didnt drink anything, they drank) they come there for the atmosphere, to drink beer, to get to know each other) eat in other places, but here - dance
Fun place and good drinks. Very reasonably priced.
Great place for beer and getting screeched in
Best place on the island.
Great bands...loved it
First time in town and wanted traditional music so was recommended this pub. Staff were friendly and informative when I called to check things out. We went on a Saturday night. Great music and yummy food (poutine with dressing, beer and bakeapple cheesecake)!
Great spot. Went for lunch on a Saturday. Very quiet at the time we went, but the food was surprisingly good and the service was great. Would definitely come back for the live music and dancing sometime soon.
Had a couple beers,great music.
Had the jiggs dinner with mussels and fries and a beer called come from away and it is so delicious
Enjoyed the live band and they had a dance floor to have some fun with new friends. Got screeched in with my daughter.
Worst food in st. Johns
A must try pub on George Street if youre doing the rounds. Friendly staff, pub food and local traditional music. Note: Dont order the spring rolls. $14 for 5 miniscule spring rolls just made us feel ripped off.
If you are looking for a mood this place is that! I went there twice in one week and had a blast, the live music is super fun, strongly recommend. I didnt have the food the drinks were good, the staff was super friendly and the place is really big. You can also buy bags of potato chips with doesnt sound that exciting while sober but when youre not its pretty amazing!
Wonderful Irish pub
Larry Foley is a legend. Always such a treat to watch him perform!! Food was great too!!
Great spot for live music any day of the week on George Street!
A great classic pub!
Very good food and entertainment. The service was very good.
First stop on our George street tour and we ended up back at this place to end our night. We were out on a sunday but it felt like a Friday! Live music great food and I giggky recommend the iceberg beer!
Crispy cod sandwich was amazing! Our server, Gill epitomizes every positive thing you have heard about Newfoundlanders
Group tour..great fish and chips for large crowd handled beautifully. Great local entertainment..hope to be back to the rock and OReillys Food
Live music $10 cover its on George Street in St Johns an experience to walk down at night itself with all the bars at once. Try kissing the cod like my sister did as part of the Newfie tradition followed by a shot of screech.
Very nice place. Great music too for open mic night
Service was great, food was excellent and the live music was nice. It was a lovely evening spent at OReillys! Will definitely be back!
Slow service and food was ok but bad for the price
Amazing Newfoundland pub friendly out going staff drop by get screeched in kiss the cod become Newfie goods times Amazing local musicians its a time by.
Somewhat ok. When entering asked if they had good food and the gentleman said yes. When we got seated and asked for a menu the server seemed surprised. What we got was a folded piece of paper that looked more like a pamphlet. When I asked about some if the items in the menu our sever indicated that they had not eaten here.... Food was ok, but was expecting or I guess hoping it would have been better ... Servers were polite and honest
Good roadhouse experience
Great food and entertainment
Good food and this pub will do a kids version of a screech in during the afternoon hours. Highly recommended!
The live bands and entertainment are what keep us going back. The lack of Guinness is what makes us second guess. In the words of the Irish Descendants..I useta love her. Useta love her once, a long, long time ago...but now the Guinness is gone, all the Guinness is gone. They do serve beer from Yellowbelly Brewery.... which I believe they also own. Maybe thats why they no longer have Guinness?
Well-priced and good food, but the real draw is the amazing live music every night. Definitely worth visiting!
Amazing food, drink and entertainment! Highly recommended the moose nachos! Cant wait to come back here again!!
The fish and chips were fantastic the staff is very friendly
Great food, great live music
Awesome bar. Rustic. Great music. Good selection of beer. Live music was awesome.
This place was fantastic. Our server was the best as nd thd entertainment was top notch. I would recommend this place to everyone visiting St.Johns.
Really nice pup, good atmosphere. Great selection of local beers and many on tap!
That was a terrible fish&chips experience. The worst one I ever had. Small frozen cod and fried on overdone oil. I do not recommend.
Pretty lively place. Id say the entertainment was the best part
I highly recommend OReillys if you want a more traditional East Coast music experience on George Street. Nothing against any of the other bars, but theres something about the ocean air that makes me want to hear fiddle, mandolin, and sing-alongs... this place delivers just that. A ton of pride and focus on local talent, and Ive never seen anything but smiles on the faces of customers here. Full respect to their new post-covid staff that seem to have been able to successfully manage the George Street Fest crowd. Drinks were served quickly, and were strong. Everything about this experience was top-notch.
Great music and enjoyed the food!
Its the place to go
Entertainment, drinks and pub food. Great atmosphere and service. The food was quite good if not spectacular.
Fun evening. The lucky leprechaun was tasty. We were there for open mic night and there were some good performers. Try the moose quesadilla!
Gluten-free fish and chips. Cooked in a dedicated fryer. And the fish is crisp and delicious. The rice flour pushes away the moisture and creates a very tasty piece of fish. The serving size was right, not a mountain of fries on a monster slab of fish. They respect food quality and their patrons. Local cider on tap. We shall return!
Nice place to get screeched in
Fun atmosphere with good live music. Our server when we first arrived was terrible, but she went off shift and the new server was much better and friendlier.
Been a fan of this place but will never go back. Charging $10.50 for two club sodas is absolutely criminal when other pubs charge Zero
Slow, high cost, but good
As a self proclaimed fish and chips enthusiast, I must say that this is possibly the BEST fish and chips Ive had in my life. The fresh cod was so absolutely sublime, beyond worth it. Not to mention the incredible atmosphere and amazing live music. The moose nachos, moose burger and moose bolognese were also delicious. 10/10 would return if in the area again!
Absolutely fantastic
I be came a official New Foundlander there
Always a good time. We go for drinks and the music. Lively atmosphere, great fun.
Awesome live music !!! Great atmosphere and good food !!
My wife and I were looking for a pub style place to have a beer and eat. In the end, we stayed all night partying to the sound of live music from an excellent band. All accompanied by excellent food and delicious beers! It was great!
Went in for a few drinks the other day. It wasnt very busy in the daytime but the staff were very friendly and made sure we were well taken care of. Nice Irish/Newfie music to get you into a jolly spirit. I would definitely love to visit when there is Live music.
Great food & music !
Wow. Amazing
Food was terrible, very disappointing. To me it just seemed like a tourist trap. Hostess was rude also, like she didnt want to be there. Do yourself a favor, stay away.
Good food and Kitchen Party is a great live band if you can get in when they play. Not so loud you couldn t talk but lots of fun.
Good choice of beer and good atmosphere on a Friday evening, quite a few people and a live music group. $10 entry during peak periods. The servers are a little overwhelmed when it comes to ordering.
So much fun. Great staff great music
Try the beer batter cod and chips. Always great, with a cider or Irish coffee. Yum.
Great music and atmosphere
Cod bites and live music till late, great spot on George St.
The servers and music makes it amazing experience Highly recommended for mainlanders lol
Lots of draught beers, great live music, fun atmosphere
A George St. staple. She aint pretty, but the food, drinks and atmosphere are great. Fantastic Newfoundland/Irish Pub.
Bad service! bad time! go somewhere else!
Had a great evening here at open mic on a Wednesday night. A few solo acts with a great MC. Service was good and the selection of beers was decent. Didnt eat any food. Seems like a great spot for live music.
The pub itself was pretty busy, the band was great. The cover was expensive $10 per person. The service was absolutely terrible. We were upstairs, we did not get table service at all which is fine we were sitting by the bar. I asked the bar staff to screech my Brother in law and sister in law in. She said they were busy but they werent and they do it downstairs, after about an hour and a half we went downstairs and asked the staff about it, they sent us back up with a note that said please screech in these people we are busy I went back up and gave it to the bartender who told me oh no I didnt say I couldnt do it I said we can if we arent busy.... she was literally standing there doing nothing.. so I said okay well I would like to do 2 people please. Waited another hour as they stood around doing nothing and we left. When we commented about it they said they had to wait for someone else to come back because they needed the 2 people, but they did have 2 people and didnt do anything... we went down thr street to a great bar and even though they had done theirs for the night, they gave us free shots to screech them in. Horrible service from this pub....
My first visit to OReillys, lovely establishment. Entertainment is talented and soulful. Emily, our hostess, was fabulous and quite attentive.
Great Irish Bar!
Friendly bunch
