125 Water St, St. John's, NL A1C 1B2, Canada
A restaurant with great food inspired by the local landscape and nearby sea, using traditional cooking methods. Located in the heart of St. John's, on the corner of Water and Prescott streets.
TLDR: Greatest dining experience I may have ever had, if you go here do yourself a favor and get the “Let the Kitchen Cook for You” To say that this was one of the most truly enjoyable dining experiences would be an understatement. Every aspect of this culinary experience managed to impress me more than the last, from the service, to the atmosphere, to of course, the beyond incredible food. I had the absolute privilege of enjoying the “Let the Kitchen Cook for You” meal service, and it did exceeded expectations in every way. Upon sitting down I instantly noticed that “Is this It?” By the Strokes was playing, and as a huhe fan of the album, the night was off to a great start, and the vibes were immaculate as they were playing it all the way through. Starting with an incredible fresh and delicious bread that had some of the better butter I have ever had, I knew I had made the right selection. The first appetizer plate then solidified that choice with some of the most creative, fresh, and delicious seafood appetizers I could have imagined. Perfectly portioned to give me a taste of three marvelous fine dining plates, I was able to try a variety of different items (I honestly could not tell you exactly what they were, and would hate to misrepresent and do a disservice to the chef by messing up). After completing the first round, I then was greeted with three more appetizer plates that only continued to blow me away. Fresh and land based with salad and poultry, it was an entirely different experience but nonetheless amazing. At this point, I was informed that the FIRST course had only now completed. I was already in awe. The next course was the seafood entree, which was some of the smoothest and best cooked fish I have had. The sides and puree it was accompanied by only elevated the incredible flavor and texture. Beyond impressed and after leaving not a crumb (through the whole meal so far), I then received the meat entree. Somehow the courses just managed to continuously impress me and give me a new appreciation for attention to detail and craftsmanship. Finally, after enjoying the third course, the absolute cherry on top was the delicious and creative dessert, that had some of the most vivid grape flavors with two different jams/purees in a medium I had never seen. All these courses coupled with exceptional bartending and service, while having great music playing solidified what was the best culinary experience of my life. Absolutely full, I discovered a pool table in the lobby right outside the restaurant, and enjoyed the rest of my night playing. I cannot thank the chef and restaurant staff enough for this opportunity and hope that I one day can return so I can relive this marvelous experience with whatever creative new dishes Terre decides to offer. Even weeks later this night still lives rent free in my head and I have absolutely 0 issues with that. Do yourself a favor and go here.
We loved our experience! We did the “let the kitchen serve you” and it was plenty of food all excellent, fresh veggies/herbs and great seafood/meats. So tasty and delicious. Would recommend in a heartbeat!
Well the last experience of Hospitality Taste and Flavours on the rock Newfoundland. Here at Terra restaurant with Chef Matthew Swift he and his team truly can cook. Just had a delicious delightful experience. So many interesting combinations and taste bites with forward friendly service. Her on the Rock from a traditional Jiggs Dinner to a seafood chowder to a super restaurant experience all so unpretentious. If you come out you have to try this restaurant also a GBC Grad. Matthew Swift who has mastered his craft. Chef John Higgins
The most delicious meal we had in St. John’s. Every dish was better than the last. Ingredients are super fresh and bring an explosion of flavours. Our server provided top notch service with sweetness and attention. I would come back to Terre on each trip I take to St. John’s.
Exceptional. Terre is a world-class fine dining experience. Everything was delicious. Some dishes were very innovative, others were more traditional and all well-executed. I had the "let the kitchen cook for you" tasting menu and received quite a generous amount of food including a wide variety of different amazing dishes. Worth every penny, I definitely recommend it. The ambience is very nice as well, and the service was excellent. Staff were friendly and kind. They were knowledgeable about the food and proud of the food, as they should be. Each dish was explained in detail with enthusiasm, that added to the fun of the tasting menu experience. I wholeheartedly recommend terre!
My partner and I chose Terre Restaurant as the spot to have our 15 year Anniversary. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and brought to our table within 30 seconds. Our hostess welcomed us and wished us a happy anniversary. Alex, our server arrived a few minutes later with two glasses of complimentary champagne and to also wish us a happy anniversary. We had questions about the menu and other options as this was our first time at Terre. We opted for the kitchen cooks for us. We were greeted with 14 mouth watering dishes, along with descriptions on each, locations, and other tidbits. Overall it was an amazing experience and I would recommend Terre to anyone looking for nice atmosphere, good vibes, and friendly staff.
Terre was an amazing experience! And that’s coming from one of the most staunch food critics you’ll hear from. Chef Matthew Swift and his team have got it going on! Humble and reserved, Chef Matt’s food does all the talking. Every plate competing for top spot. Bold flavors with balanced execution. The smoked mussels and tomato toast was like a pinpoint in time on my culinary journey. I am moved thinking of the love and thoughtfulness that goes into what comes out of this kitchen. All of their herbs and edible flowers grown in their on premise garden right outside and the smoked mussels and meats done in house, of course. To top things off, the staff is amazing! From Parker the host to the most delightful Delaney at the bar, they all are so conscientious in assuring a meaningful and memorable experience! We live in Florida so I’m not sure when we’ll get back to Newfoundland but this place is already beckoning for me…next summer??😉
This restaurant is an amazing experience in fine dining! Had dinner with 2 friends at this gem and we were NOT disappointed! The service was fantastic even though the place was quite full. We ordered several items plus drinks and dessert. Every item was delicious, but I especially enjoyed the beer can chicken and the smelts. The rhubarb cosmo and espresso martini were incredible! I'm planning to take my husband later this summer when he visits the island with me. Can't wait to go back!
I m vegetarian and there weren t many options on the menu, so the kitchen prepared a custom dinner for me that was delicious!
Terre is a beautiful restaurant. The service was wonderful. I still cant get over how good the food was. Im still talking about it the day after. We got the let the kitchen cook for you option and the staff were so accommodating to some dietary restrictions. I would definitely recommend Terre to anyone who wants a unique and tasty dining experience.
Our waiter, Ivan was very attentive and made good suggestions regarding wine and food. The food was delicious and highly recommend beer can in a chicken which was enough for four of us. My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Parking: Beneath restaurant at Alt Hotel
Magnifique ..everything was perfect as always ..from the indoor underground parking, to the lovely attentive service and our perfect delicious meal and drinks.. thank you yet again for such a delightful evening Maggie and Tom Jackson
My friends and I had a lovely Christmas brunch at Terre yesterday. I ordered the Townie toast and it was delicious. A lively atmosphere, excellent coffee and excellent service. Looking forward to our next visit.
Birthday dinner with friends. One of the best restaurants Ive been in. Food was great. Loved the Hanger steak Scallops was very nice too. Atmosphere nice. My friends kept asking where did you find this restaurant! It was that good . Everything just beautiful. Our server was so nice. Love it Highly recommend
Excellent!
First time visiting. Atmosphere is nice and service was attentive and good. Food was for the most part interesting and well prepared except for Guinea fowl (extremely fatty and difficult to eat) and cheese that was moldy - but was replaced. Drinks were very good.
One of the best restaurants in the city of St. Johns, NL. The staff are very attentive and pleasant, food was to die for, and the atmosphere was fantastic - A fresh Christmas Tree greeted us at entrance to the restaurant, so there was a smell of Christmas in the air, we were seated overlooking St. Johns Harbour, with all the lights of the boats and the harbour twinkling over the water - just magical. We both ordered an appetizer but shared the beer can chicken - which was a lot of food. It came with fries and salad, and we still had to get a take away container for the chicken. Parking: Parking was easy, just drive to the back entrance, you get a ticket upon entry which you bring to the check in counter and they will program it for in and out service until you leave. It only cost $15.00 to have your vehicle secured inside.
Terre is one of my favourite St. Johns dining experiences. Ive never been disappointed with the food or the staff in any way, the interior is beautifully decorated and comfortable, and they always manage to cook seafood flawlessly when I order it. Their winter cocktail selection this year in particular is perfectly appointed to showcase local products and seasonal flavours.
The Terre family have created the finest dining experience in St. Johns, with a focus on seasonal, local ingredients, some of which are grown on site in the loveliest of patio gardens, right beside the St. Johns harbour. It wouldnt get better than that, except its all served with such care, knowledge and enthusiasm. Thank you Matthew Swift and crew. I cant recommend Terre highly enough.
Had a wonderful dinner yesterday. Really nice atmosphere and although they we busy the team was always attentive. But then the food was of very high level. One of the best meals we had in a while.
We ate at Terre twice during a recent visit to St Johns. I honestly think this is the best restaurant in St Johns at present. The food was fantastic on both times. The service was exceptional - very attentive but relaxed. We highly recommend the restaurant.
Great service Vegetarian options: Lots of choice Dietary restrictions: Was asked directly if any, good idea . Wheelchair accessibility: Yes in the hotel
Our server Michael was amazing! Dietary restrictions: I am gluten free and there were no issues finding something to eat Food : 5/5 |
This restaurant is excellent, 100% recommended. Food is outstanding and good value for cost. The staff was very courteous, and the dining environment is very comfortable. A great dining experience.
We each had the Skin on Cod. Neither of us liked the dish. The fish was very, very wet, with little flavour and the skin was not crusty as described. My serving had very soft skin that was unappealing and I certainly could not eat it. It was probably the worst cod dish I have had in any quality restaurant, and I am a pescatarian. The reviews on this restaurant were very impressive and were the reason we chose Terre. Unfortunately we were not impressed. We could have given our comments to the server but as we were entertaining a relative who recommended Terre, we thought that would be awkward.
It was my first time visiting, and I ll definitely be going back! My friend and I initially went just for a drink, but we ended up loving the place it was a great experience.
Absolutely wonderful, highly recommend!
We enjoyed our breakfast but the coffee is terrible and well over priced. Will come back again soon!! Dietary restrictions: GF
i had the best french influenced restaurant at terre. i love the fresh and locally sourced ingredients, its balanced and elegant dishes (turnip and cod), and its ambience. the liquor shelf is beautiful. the fried apple pie had more of a beignet texture than the traditional new england baked apple pie and was definitely an indulgence. the appletini was crispy and light and complemented the dessert well. the people working there are lovely too.
Vegetarian options: Repas excellent ! Service excellent ! On reviendra !!!! Food
Loved how vegetables were the highlight of several dishes. Turnips were amazing.
Fantastic coffee and chai tea latte as well ! Fabulous breakfast as always
Great as always!!!
My wife and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary by treating ourselves to this exceptional restaurant. We both opted for Let the kitchen cook for you and we paired it with wine. The service was top notch and the food was even better. It felt like we sampled most things on the menu and plenty that was not on the menu. Everything was excellent! I would recommend Terre to anyone - whether local or visiting the city.
Really enjoy my meal, share mussels and brussels sprouts and cod, everything was so delicious, glad i got to have a little variety and we received a great service
We did the Let the Chef cook for you tasting and it was exquisite! Every dish was unique and the flavours were different from one another and amazing! The staff treated us like royalty and everyone loved the experience. Don t walk, run there and try Terre!! Dietary restrictions: I am Celiac and the chef and staff took the utmost care to make sure that I could experience every dish!
My wife and I went to Terre for her birthday. The first thing that bothered me was how cold it was inside. Secondly we both found the chairs very uncomfortable. That said the atmosphere was nice. The service was good but pretty slow. We ordered the brochettes and broccoli appetizers that we found to be really good. For dinner, we ordered the skin on cod. The cod was delish however the portion was incredibly small that came with a piece of kale and some sort of mayo sauce. There was no side on the plate. So as you can imagine we left hungry. Now for price, what you get its totally not worth it. The wine is massively overpriced. Cheapest glass is 16.99 meanwhile that same wine costs 14.99 for the bottle at the liquor store. The appetizers were somewhat reasonably priced (depending what you order). However our biggest beef was was the actual dinner which costs about $40. The portion was just way too small for what you get. In the end, our bill came to $200 including tip and we left starving. Needless to say we wont be going back!
Actually nuts how good this place is. Get the cod. Food : 5/5
Highly recommend the scallops and the dessert! It is a good place for a date or birthday.
The best lobster eggs benedict you will ever have in your life. Just look at the photo and see the masterpiece with your own eyes and then book the flight to St Johns to treat your taste buds. By the way it doesnt sit on an English muffin, it rests on a crab cake!
Honestly, one of the best meals Ive had in years. Went on a Tuesday night, and had excellent service from start to finish. The meal was truly outstanding - we tried local corn and broccolini and the cod was perfection. My only regret was not having room to try dessert. Make sure you order the potato bread - it comes out as a little individual loaf (good to share for 2 or enjoy alone) with butter and it was fantastic. Perfect texture, savory and the accompanying butter with rock salt elevated it to something else. The food seems all locally sourced and this is one talented chef and kitchen. Thanks Terre for making our last night in St. Johns so memorable.
The food was spectacular.
The service was excellent. When we said we were vegetarian, the chef created a main to suit us which was fantastic. I loved the item on the cocktail menu that said something nice where you describe what you want, e.g. fruity, and they make you something. We got three different, yummy cocktails this way. Vegetarian options: Plenty of options
Love sitting at this bar, the bartender was very good at coming up with uniquely tasty drinks!
Terre is perfect. Every detail was considered and the meal was beyond exceptional. Thrilled to have been able to get in and will be back!
My first stop in Newfoundland before filming Hudson & Rex. What an amazing atmosphere, super super friendly staff and delicious food. The view is breathtaking the Espresso is smooth (big on my list). Brunch was superb. I got Clarah s breakfast. YUM. Two fried eggs on rice, toasted cabbage and garlic chilli oil.
We loved the food! Service was terrific. It was a great experience for celebrating our anniversary.
I met an old friend at Terre last night and we had a truly delightful meal. The flavors were outstanding and every bite was enjoyed. We shared 3 plates and all were superb. We both walked away noting how delicious our meals were. Richard did a great job with service too! Vegetarian options: There are always several vegetarian options on the ever changing menu - veg is always cooked to perfection and always interesting!
Great night- I took some friends from out of town here for a birthday celebration- the food and service exceeded our expectations. Cocktails are great as well- would definitely go back
The kitchen and front of house staff continue to shine. Their skill and passion comes through in every dish. Eat here!
One of the best brunches OF MY LIFE! One always wonders how different the regular go-to s can be from spot to spot but make no mistake Terre s brunch menu is in a league of its own. As well as its staff and espresso drinks
Wonderful food, and an incredible atmosphere; one of the best restaurants (and bar) in St-Johns
We ordered your let the kitchen cook for you and was generally pleased both with the quantity and quality. However, two main plates for three people at that price point was a little rich. I expected each person to have their own plate. Additionally, I found the wine to be very high. For that reason, we did not order any.. You may want to give more options or be more aware of the wine pricing going forward.. This was our first visit to the restaurant after dining at almost every other restaurant in the city multiple times, but we will be back as I said the staff were exceptional, and the food quality was fantastic. Dietary restrictions: Kitchen and weight staff did a great job looking after a coeliac customer
Always an incredible experience. Service staff very knowledgeable and atmosphere upscale
Great staff great food
Terre is the jewel in the crown of the St. John s food scene! Kid-friendliness: mocktails for the kids (and non drinkers) were great Food : 5/5 |
AMAZING food!!!! This is one of the best restaurant in Canada. Worth the trip to St. Johns!
Beautiful atmosphere, attentive service and a tasty menu. A great evening shared as a team.
Excellent quality and taste ... will be back!
Loved the food and the service! Great skin on cod and smoked char Food
Delicious food with excellent service
We had an amazing evening. Food was excellent! Atmosphere is always great. Its our favourite restaurant !! Dietary restrictions: I feel that the restaurant is able to accommodate dietary needs. Parking: Underground parking is great.
Excellent experience all around.
The wild berry sorbet (cloudberry) was succulent and the cod excellent!!! Beautiful decor and outstanding service. Vegetarian options: Several options available for vegetarians which all looked scrumptious.
It was a night to remember
GREAT .WILL BE BACK.THANKS
Some of the best food in St. Johns. Ivan was a wonderful host!
One of the best meals I ve ever had. Staff were welcoming, friendly and attentive. 5 stars and more
The welcome, the visual/taste quality of the menu and the professionalism is an important differential element of this restaurant.
Inventive, seasonal cuisine, perfectly plated. Attentive service. And the wine list? Lots of terrific options by the glass or bottle. Need I say more? Always a pleasure dining at Terre.
Cant decide? Love food? Feeling a little adventurous? Want to spend time with your dinner date? Select the Let the Kitchen Cook for You. Includes desert, exclude drinks. Portion of food is good. Come a little hungry if you are a small eater. Food is fresh and good. Wonderful place for business lunch, catch ups, date night, and small gatherings (4 to 6 people). May not be the best venue for impromptu dinner meet up on Friday and weekend nights - Best to reserve a table early.
As always, it was a fantastic meal & experience!
Food was lovely. We were looking for an upscale creative thoughtful menu and they had it! Our waiter was very kind, attentive and super cute. All the staff were attentive good looking and kind. Great selection of wines local organic and otherwise. Love the open kitchen style seeing the food come up. Nice bar seating as well. Also nice to see the kitchen staff having the best view of the restaurant. I would have tried everything on the menu if my body had allowed it. Thanks again for a great experience. Now on to the cod cheeks!
Great atmosphere, the perfect server, certainly the best meal we had on our 16 day trip to Newfoundland
Simply outstanding. Our server Ivan was attentive, personable and efficient. The food was exceptional. Swordfish, gnocchi, and incredible roasted corn Cake with ice cream and caramel was superb. Loved the whole experience. Food : 5/5
Great experience!
Terre is one of my favorite places to eat in St. John s and with good reason. We have never had a bad meal here. The staff are always knowledgeable and helpful, cocktails are always delicious, and every dish is to die for. There s just never enough room to try everything on their menu!
Went for our anniversary, service was excellent and food was delicious. We will be returning.
Fantastic food. Everything taste fresh, and wasnt over salted. The homefries were perfection.
Took my local friends they very much enjoyed your establishment . I to enjoyed you have a wonderful staff
Best food experience in a long while. The char and quail are mandatory! Five stars all around.
Delicious food and great service. One of the best restaurants in the city.
A stylish but casual place. Welcoming and with well-prepared food. Located in the downtown heart of St. Johns. Worthwhile. Kid-friendliness: Lots of kids.
Excellent meal! The best we ate in Newfoundland!! Impeccable service
The atmosphere is casual and dress up everything in between. We were there early because we had a flight to catch. We had potato bread, oysters, code en croute, hangar steak, white chocolate mousse. Delicious! My husband was jealous of my hangar steak. Dietary restrictions: Asked very clearly when we ordered about allergies and restrictions
Excellent food staff and vibe
Service was professional, food was delicious, presentation for both food and beverage was exquisite
Great food, something for everyone. Service was also great. And there was a lovely view of the harbor.
Amazing food and service. Would highly recommend!
Excellent food and waitress was great. Deserts were small for the price. Suggest adding slightly more veggie options to entrees.
Atmosphere looked lovely! It is just a bit loud with how popular it is. Be aware if you get overstimulated with noise- maybe go on a less popular night. I have been twice and both times the food was impeccable. I ve always chosen the Something Nice cocktail which is created by the bartender based off your taste preferences and it s one of my favourite things! Oysters are fresh, the bread is delicious, the smoked mussels are my absolute favourite things- I dream about them!
A really enjoyable time
The staff was very knowledgeable with every dish! We let the chef decide our anniversary dinner and it was sooo good! About 7 courses!
I was truly excited to try Terre. Had a reservation for 6 at 6:15 on a Tuesday. Was seated promptly and given menus. After ~15 minutes, our drink orders were taken. Server returned about 20 minutes later with drinks and took food orders. Table asked for course service for our orders Bread took roughly 30 mins to arrive, cold. Remainder of meals was broken into two courses, last of which took over an hour and a half after our reservation to arrive following our table asking about our food. This was not before mistaking a drink order and providing no resolution, even though the drink took 20 minutes to arrive. St. John s is a world class food city with normally great food, service, and reasonable value. I ve heard great things about Terre but was so sorely disappointed by my experience over the course of two hours. Waste of an evening, and money. Go to Portage across the street, or one of the other several other good options across downtown St.Johns.
Best meal in St-John s NL. Everything was delicious! Great atmosphere and service. Cocktails were amazing. A must !
Delicious cocktails and dishes. Great atmosphere -- easygoing yet elegant. Parking: Street parking and nearby parking garage Wheelchair accessibility: Enter through the hotel
Absolutely amazing experience. One of my favorite meal of the year. The smoked mussels were out of this world. We loved it so much that we went back for drinks and brunch on two separate occasions during our trip. Just lovely.
Highly recommend lobster! Bread in hometown hero is very dry. Food
The food was wonderful as always. Imaginative small plates and a chicken for the table that we all agreed was the best we ever tasted. We did have a long wait for it though. Noisy ambiance with music a little too loud.
We opted to allow the kitchen chefs to select our dishes, and we were delighted with a stream of dishes that were carefully prepared, and that demonstrated a high level of creativity. The chefs used a diverse combination of locally sourced and foraged food from Newfoundland. If I want to nitpick, I was somewhat disappointed with the small number of wines offered by the glass, and with a pea dish that rendered the pods into an unpleasantly tough to chew veggie plate. The remaining dishes served were all outstanding with a dessert of rose infused cream and local berries that had us curling our toes. Terre is a great restaurant. Parking: Oversized vehicle parking is available and free when dining in the restaurant.
Excellent food and service. Atmosphere gets 4 stars because the music was a little loud which meant people had to speak louder which made it noisier. Parking: Lots of parking within walking distance.
Lovely service from our waiter. We received our entrees quickly (excellent oysters from PEI) but had to wait a very long time for our meal (we ordered multiple plates). We received complementary drink and dessert for the wait but for those prices, we expect efficient and timely service along with excellent food. Everyone has an off night !
What an experience when the chef cooks for you! A proposition of incredible dishes with local products, a variety of dishes, original combinations of flavors and textures and leaving the table satiated! We still dream of it! Thank you Clarah and Hugo Germain for access to this discovery! Bravo Alt, Quebec pride! Memorable visit to St-Johns, St-Jean de Newfoundland thanks to you! Congratulations to Chef Matthew Swift and the whole team, royal service in a relaxed setting! And the quality of the meal is worth the price! Vegetarian options: Several possible combinations!
We were excited to visit this restaurant. The atmosphere was fun and the service was excellent! We really enjoyed the oysters, the quail, and chanterelles. However, we were disappointed about the execution of some of the other dishes. The cod was well cooked but unevenly seasoned, the pea dish was greasy (not in a good way) and had a strange flavour profile, and our desert galette was burnt. For the price point, we expected more consistency between the dishes.
Had the potato bread (the butter was the best I ve had), cod rosti (yummy) and sour cherry dessert. I requested a fruity mocktail and it didn t disappoint. The bartender was exceptionally nice and made my solo birthday dinner unforgettable. Would definitely go back if I visit the city again. I agree with some: The music was a bit too loud.
Visited for dinner and our table got the chef s menu - it was hands down the best meal of our trip to St. John s. All the dishes were fresh, made with local ingredients (some grown themselves), and delicious. Service was excellent. Ambiance was beautiful. One of the better meals we ve had in memory from anywhere in the world.
Terrible and short experience. Got in, was mildly welcomed, sat at the bar, waited for a while and not even a glass of water offered. Girl sits right by me, she gets serviced first, while I continue to get ignored. Left immediately after that. Not gonna tolerate that in a restaurant, where their job is to serve you. Sounds entitled, but at the end of the day you pay for food, service, and atmosphere. Two of them lacked highly, and to be honest, the food as described oh the menu seemed underwhelming. But since I didn t have any it would be unfair to say anything.
My wife and I had the chefs selection and were not disappointed with most of the food. Do not eat much of the bread as the amount of food is beyond what you think they will bring out. Most of the dishes were excellent but there was a few that I would try to improve or remove. The last piece that came out was a hangar steak and it was tasteless and chewy. I prefer not to end in a bad note, so all other food was great and the artic char was the best I have ever had. Service was also excellent and the place was busy. Wheelchair accessibility: NA
Nice atmosphere, great food, and service. You will enjoy it, great for a quiet night and ended by a walk by the harbor.
Maybe we came on an off night? The food wasn t as good as expected (our veal skewers weren t good a lot of fat and gristle though other parts of the meal were a bit better; dessert was great!), which was quite disappointing! I d eaten brunch here before and loved it so had high expectations for dinner. I sold it hard to my husband who wasn t very impressed, unfortunately. Too bad. The service was quite good and the atmosphere was fun and higher energy. Good people watching on a Saturday night! I m sure we ll be back to give it another shot!
Extreme noise level, so much so that you could hardly have a conversation. Very high prices, which unfortunately the food served didnt justify.
Fantastic tasting menu!! Every dish was perfectly presented and delicious! Loved everything especially the halibut!
We hosted a large group dinner at Terre. The experience from start to finish could not have been better. Spectacular food and service. Thank you for the amazing experience for our visiting guests!
Yeshwin is a treasure!
Delicious local food. Dynamic flavors. Killer view.
Very nice restaurant attached to The Alt Hotel which was very convenient and the views of the street were great. Service was very fast, staff were so kind and their Cod with skin was absolutely delicious, it just melts in your mouth. They gave a great menu for breakfast as well. Prices were fair, décor was great, lots of seating.
Skin on cod was delicious not overcooked. Baby corn with feta nice accompaniment. Service Devine.
At a conference in St. Johns, I went there three nights in a row for dinner because in my opinion its the best restaurant in town! Attentive and competent service, dishes with a touch of magic, unique flavors, leafy vegetables grown on site. Thank you for the great culinary discoveries sitting at the bar! Very nice!
Group of 3 ordered the halibut with grilled zucchini (2) and the hanger steak. Desserts were the bakeapple pudding and the raspberry and basil ice cream sandwich. All were excellent including the coffee. Service was good.
Excellent food and service. Restaurant was quite loud at times, but we were still able to converse with minimal issues. Dietary restrictions: Kitchen was able to accommodate for nut allergies without issue.
3 appetizers were uninspired and disappointing while the mains were very tasty and nicely prepared. We were a couple celebrating a special occasion and had emailed and left a phone message requesting a window table. Even though we were the first and only customers when we arrived, we were told we couldnt have the table we wanted and were seated uncomfortably close to the waiter station. As we had our starter cocktails, a couple arrived and were given a window table for 4 to themselves (the plates and cutlery for the other two places removed when they were seated). This inconsistency, especially given that we are regulars who come year round was extremely disappointing. We spent $400 for two people. For that price, the experience was underwhelming.
Simply memorable experience! Family dinner, 6 people really enjoyed themselves! Without hesitation, I recommend!!!
We were at your restaurant last night to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We were really looking forward to celebrating such an occasion however it did not turn out the way we had hoped. I ordered the flanker steak and asked for it to be well done, it came out extremely rare, and I couldn t even eat it. Besides this we had waited well over an hour and a half to get our meal. when I told the guy who cleared our table, our waitress and then spoke to the manager on our way out, They all just said oh my I m so sorry. What can we do to get your business back , unfortunately I left the restaurant and had to go through the drive-through on the way home manager said they will call today. We still had to paint for that meal and felt it was not good customer service. We own our own business with several franchises across Atlantic Canada, so we truly have an appreciation for great customer service. One of our biggest values in our business is putting the customer needs first. Hopefully we will hear from you today. We were extremely disappointed.

Best chicken sandwhich I ve ever had! The tea was phenomenal as well! If you re looking for a brunch spot, this is the place!
Decent food, and its clear there are some passionate people working here. Big shoutout to Sara(h), who I believe works as a host. She had a great attitude and gave us some really honest recommendations of other places to visit, and was key in us getting a table at another place that is difficult to make reservations at. Im very appreciative of people that dont just make their own restaurant great, but do their part to uplift the places around them.
Fancy breakfast that is pricey but great. Server was excellent and overall a lovely breakfast.
The bright airy space must make for a lovely place to work but it makes any quiet conversation with your dinner partner next to impossible. For breakfast, we were seated on the long banquette which runs the length of Terre Restaurant and there s no privacy as strangers are sitting right next to you. The food was good and the restaurant was clean and serving staff were knowledgeable. For dinner service we were placed in a two seater very close to the bar and if you want a romantic, intimate meal you won t want to sit there! Unfortunately I can t see my husband and I returning unless you replace the black medieval torture devices we spent two hours seated in. There are no other words to describe those chairs!! My suggestion to the host was encourage the owners and their spouses to sit through a three course meal in them and see how fast they re changed out.
One of the best dining experiences we ve ever had. We did the chef s choices option and the amount of food they give you is astronomical. It s beyond worth it; so fun and delicious. Service across the board by the whole team was incredible, but Brandon really made our meal legitimately memorable. Can t wait to come back!
Food is so delicious and service is excellent.
We chose the discovery meal, which is good value for the whole meal. Some dishes were better than others but overall it was very good. The service was very inconsistent. Sometimes very slow or too fast. For example, receiving your desserts in an imposed manner when the glasses of wine are not finished. Placed near a group, it was very noisy, almost aggressive to the point of not being able to speak to each other without repeating. The price of wines is high.
Nice environment, delicious food, and good service. Highly recommend!
Wonderful halibut dinner.
Amazing food - drinks - and dessert. Great vibes and even greater customer service. Worth every penney Vegetarian options: My date is doesn t eat meat and there was great fish options for her
We had a wonderful dinner at Terre! We tried the let the kitchen cook for you. It was a great experience! Everything, especially the seafood was fresh and delicious. Would highly recommend. Service was also top notch! Will definitely be returning.
Been here many times. Never disappointed. Five stars all around. Service always exceptional. Wait staff very knowledgeable. Menu always exciting and very tasty. Not cheap but worth it.
As starred above, the food and the service were excellent and all 4 of our party greatly enjoyed our experience. My only slight complaints were that the ambient noise made conversation difficult on a busy Friday night and also that the chairs available do not fit those of us with wider hips, meaning that I had a choice of sitting leaning forward throughout my visit or reclining almost horizontally if I wanted some back support. The server did quickly find me a cushion to provide some back support, but a better fitting chair would have been nice. Parking: The unadvertised garage was lovely and reasonably priced ($6 in our case, minus a $3 restaurant rebate, however, it would have been nice if the restaurant staff had made clear that the rebate card they gave us was only for part of the charge. I spent several minutes trying to figure out whether and how I should pay the extra $3 to get the gate to lift since the brief message on the toll booth was not clear whether the $3 it was asking for was the rebate amount or the full amount.
Great Candian fare. Well thought out and balanced dishes. Michael, our server, was kind, thoughtful and had great recommendations. Absolutely recommend.
Always excellent. Innovative as well.
Food and service was average. Wine selection is poor. St. John s has better options for fine dining.
Food is always delicious! Had my grandchildren with us and they were treated so well - extra fruit and cookie treats from one of the chefs! Fabulous! Dietary restrictions: One of our party is gluten free. Very easily accommodated and many options available to them.
The dishes we ordered, razor clams, lobster roll, the quail and halibut were exceptionally done, both taste wise and plating. Great vibe and service as well.
Fantastic tasting menu
Food was delicious and interesting and Alex provided us with fantastic service.
My friend and I asked about vegetarian options and were given a DELICIOUS mushroom pasta that wasn t on the menu. It should be! Thanks for having us, we had a lovely time :)
Great service and food. Our waiter, Brandon was so helpful in choosing food options and sharing info about menu. Great fine dining experience.
Our server and the sommelier were very helpful
Great dinner out with some friends. Nesterac Podfuck and Molino Barolo Gallinotto were standout bottles with the meal. The Mangalista pork terrine and halibut with chanterelle mushroom were serious highlights. Enjoyed by all. Thanks again! And as always, have a great week! :)
Nicest meal we had!
The restaurant is very noisy. The music is very loud and everyone has to speak over the music to be heard. Very frustrating!!!
Experienced server, friendly staff. Great space, nice views of the harbour. Music uncomfortably loud for a Sunday morning breakfast. Difficult to talk across the table. The potatoes were very salty, overcooked. Chinched bacon mostly fat and very salty. All guests left half their meal on their plates. Disappointed
Fantastic experience at Terre Restaurant. Went with lovely wife and had the Let the chef cook for you option along with a few of their house cocktails. Three courses (two seafood and a meat) along with desert. Lobster salad, cod dish and smoked mussels were a stand out, along with the desert which ended off the meal nicely. Would highly recommend for those looking to have a great dining experience. A little loud compared to the other fine dining spots in the area, younger crowd, which we enjoyed but just be aware this is not a stuffy quiet location.
We were very fortunate to have Michael Delaney as our server. He was very patient as he walked us through the menu selections. the smoked Char appetizer was excellent as was the Halibut. In fact, we had just returned from the Fogo Island Inn. The food we enjoyed at Terre was as good, if not better than, as what we experienced at the Fogo Island Inn. Especially the plate presentation. The only very slight negative was the noise level. However, for me, it represented the fact that customers were enjoying themselves.
Sarah was fantastic, thanks for an enjoyable evening!
Excellent, thank you
Everything was delicious! I hate the best bread of my life (their potato bread) and also the best Crab of my life. The service was also amazing!
Excellent service and food.
Absolutely best experience and food on the island! It s our go to!
One of the best Canadian restaurants I ve been to. Great service and atmosphere. Food was amazing, smoked mussels and quail are a must try! Hope to come back next time to try their tasting menu.
Dietary restrictions: I am celiac and they were knowledgeable, careful and the food was delicious. Food
Good food, thought quite expensive, and very kind/helpful staff! Vegetarian options: Not many veg options, but they were more than happy to make something unique for us, and it was delicious! Food : 4/5 |
food was flavourful and perfectly cooked. My favourite was the smoked mussels and ham appetizer. Perfectly paired flavours. I ve never had smoked mussels before and this was a pleasant surprise, I will be looking for them next time I m here in Newfoundland! Service was also great, our waiter was very helpful in deciding our menu choices.
Delicious food, they were very accommodating for vegan friendly options. Brandon, our server was delightful, charming and funny. The atmosphere was a little noisy, but still top notch. Round 2: Terre continues to be a fantastic place to dine at. We had Sarah for our server this time. They were wonderful and super easy to chat with. The folks in the kitchen really knocked it out of the park with their vegan options this time. Will definitely be coming back to see what other vegan creations they can come up with. Dietary restrictions: They were super accommodating and did have some vegan options on hand. Round 2: We asked for some vegan dishes and the kitchen delivered. They had no problem whipping up a couple different starters and 3 entrees.
The let the kitchen cook for you was great since I got to try almost everything on the menu. The razor clams were so delicious we ordered seconds. The order of the dishes was: seafood appetizer + bread > fish > meat > dessert, and the meal took about 3 hours and 40 minutes. The wait time between dishes gave me time to make more space in my stomach. Dietary restrictions: Lactose intolerant
The food (breakfast) was incredible and the best coffee Ive ever had!
Vraiment exceptionnel comme repas dégustation « on cuisine pour vous ». Expérience culinaire+++ Dietary restrictions: Gluten
Terre is our place to go for special occasions like our 34th wedding anniversary. Thank you Terre for being the best restaurant and our favourite Parking: Easy to find parking and Ubers/taxis
One of the things that stands out about Terre is the service. Your entire staff are total pros. They re relaxed, funny & are there at your table when you need them to be. Knowledgable about the menu and the wines. The food is always amazing. It s basically the only restaurant that we go to anymore because we know it will always be great. And they make a great Vesper.
Excellent dinner in St Johns NL Compliments to the chef and our server Sarah. NL snow crab, raw scallops, cod all prepared superbly Topped off with almond cake and lots of rhubarb This place stands up to any restaurant in Toronto or Montreal !
Very good, refined cuisine! Excellent time.
Amazing space and team, had an amazing time with family. Definitely try the hangar steak, that was delish! Lobster roll wasnt as flavourful as it looked unfortunately... But overall ambiance and attentive service was top notch.
Terre is bright, with its tall windows, sunlight, greenery and a brunch menu that will get you excited. It is featured in illustrious En Route magazine as one of the top hotel restaurants in Canada. The Clarah was my favourite with rice, eggs and sautéed spinach topped with chili oil. A savoury way to start the day.
We had the We cook for you menu with wine pairing. We were impressed by the quality of the dishes composed mainly of local foods, the wines, the eclectic atmosphere of the restaurant. The service was exceptional and our server who spoke French took the time to explain each of the dishes to us, the origin of the food and the wines. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an exceptional Newfoundland dining experience.
delightful meal with exellent cocktails and wine. Our server Ivan is the best!! We had delicious striped bass, yummy smoked char, hosts shoots which was really wonderful, and super fresh asparagus with hollandaise sauce with just the right amount of lemon.
Let the Chef cook for you! Amazing food and service! Love the element of surprise!
noise level a bit high Parking: stationnement sous terrain gratuit pour les clients du restaurant. Food : 5/5 |
Sarah was absolutely extraordinary, with attentive, friendly, dynamic and just enough present service. I loved the tasting menu which was GREATLY worth the price of $125. Take the food and wine pairing too! Vegetarian options: Several options
Terre served up a very memorable and delicious meal. What a way to bring to an end several days on the trail! Highly recommend the halibut (comprehensively seared to create a wonderfully salty crust around the meaty mild tenderness of the interior) and served atop a buttery squash whip that you can mop up with the baby greens served alongside; as well as the strip steak. I was hungry so I ate both as well as a starter of whelk (which was fine, but which could use some fine tuning to amp up the contrasts and flavor). Service was impeccable and atmosphere was terrific. Highly recommend.
Potato bread was served room temp, not warm. Arctic char and muscle appetizers were very good (8/10). Definitely on the pricey side for the quantity of food we got. Hosta shoots dish was also very tasty and well balanced (8/10). The halibut dish was disappointing. It was served on a very thin layer of carrot puree with a few greens and no other accompaniments. The size of the halibut fillet was surprisingly small given its $45 price tag. It was nicely cooked and delicious. Given the price, this dish felt very insubstantial and was priced as an expensive main but was sized like an appetizer (5/10). The last dish we had was the one we were most excited about, the veal tartare. This was without a doubt the most disappointing dish from a taste perspective. The veal was cut with an overload of peppercorns, pickles, and capers. This combined with the overwhelming acidic flavour it left in our nostrils was enough for us to pause and wonder if the dish was made correctly. Too much dijon mustard, pickle juice, and/or vinegar maybe? Our nostrils and the backs of our mouths stung from the acid. Would NOT recommend. There are definitely some winners on the menu however some need more refinement. The overall quantity was underwhelming the price we paid. Recommend to include some more carbohydrate dishes along with the mains to satiate future customers.
We decided to give this restaurant a try based on all the positive reviews and the chef s reputation. We ordered three breakfast dishes; two of them were great in terms of presentation, creativity, and taste, but one was average at best. I ve had better at local delis. The disappointment came from the service: slow, unwelcoming, and inattentive. The restaurant was not busy at all, yet we had to flag people down for water or coffee refills. We were also unsure if the coffee was refillable until we overheard someone at the bar asking the table next to us if they wanted a refill. It would have made me feel more welcome if they had also asked our table. When we flagged the waitress about one of the meals being too salty, she explained that the dish was supposed to taste that way, without checking with the kitchen. This seemed like an arrogant assumption. Overall, I would be selective about what you order from this establishment and don t expect much in terms of service.
Always incredible. Let the kitchen cook for you is the best way to experience Terre. You won t regret it. Dietary restrictions: Excellent catering for a gluten allergy in our group.
Food great and beautiful presentation. Evening started off well, our server attentive and engaging. Food runner? who brought courses, just dropped plates and left, certainly not doing justice to Chefs hard work. New wine should be poured before the next plate so not waiting. We lost our server to 3 large tables - not his fault but took away from our dining experience.
The service was absolutely wonderful only to be outdone by the food when it was served hot and delicious. Every person (36) in our party was overwhelmed at the taste of the food and atmosphere in which to enjoy it. A wonderful overall experience!! Dietary restrictions: One of our party is vegan and had absolutely no problem ordering something to meet her needs as well as being delicious
We had dinner 2 evenings at the Terre restaurant. Both dinners were very pleasant experiences (food: freshness, diversity, quality, originality, etc..., service: attentive, efficient, professional, etc.). We would happily return if we were not more than 2000 km away.
I booked a seat at the bar, as a solo traveller i find it more comfortable than sitting alone at a table. The menu changes frequently and was different than when I booked. There were amazing options and variety. I m pescatarian and Terre doesn t disappoint on its offerings. I wanted at least 8 items, so narrowing down was hard. I had potato bread with salted butter, generous portion so I decided to just eat a bit, but finished it, the bread and butter dish was just that good. I decided on halibut for my main, it s my favourite seafood. The dish far exceeded my expectations. Perfectly cooked, served on a delectable sauce with greens. I live on the BC coast so my expectations of halibut are high, this dish surpassed them! I wished I could have eaten more dishes, as the asparagus and lobster salad diners near me had made my mouth water. I was very full, but still ordered dessert. Cake with dandelion cream. Smooth, creamy, perfectly sweetened. Didn t know dandelion cream was a thing, but trust me, it s a good thing. Hats off to the excellent chef! My biggest regret was only going to the restaurant once during my stay, I wanted to try more items!
Hey Terre people was Tip included? I added $ to round up but not sure if gratuity was included please advise.
We enjoyed the limited menu and even more limited wine list, we especially enjoyed Brandon s service, he was knowledgeable and attentive, added a great deal to our meals.
Michael was patient , knowledgeable and spoiled us with service . Matt is a food genius!
Food was absolutely amazing! Brandon, our waiter, was engaging and knowledgeable and the drinks were fantastic. Highly recommend! Music was a little loud but other than that a perfect night out!
Friendly staff, great food and atmosphere.
Everything was perfect! From the customized pomegranate mimosas served with a separate jug of OJ so you could gauge how much mix you wanted, to the homemade toast perfectly crisped, and Béarnaise sauce to die for on our lobster, spinach, hash brown combo. Indulgent and delicious - and the service was equally wonderful, professional and attentive. 10 out of 10.
It was a wonderful place to go for Mother s Day. Our server was Amazing !! Brunch was incredible! And the desserts off the charts ! Drinks were wonderful ! Can t say a bad thing at all !
I got the Lobster hash brown from the brunch menu. Had a lovely meal for Mother s Day with the family. Delicious and fills you up. It was quite busy, so we had to wait a bit but that was fine. The atmosphere is beautiful with the sun coming in through the windows.
The initial greeting, the service/server and the food were exceptional. The server was knowledgeable about the items on the menu and he made sure we were comfortable and happy throughout the dinner. Each item that we order was cooked/prepared to perfection. The fish was fresh, with delicate flavours. Beautifully presented. One of the best meals we have ever had!
Chef Matt & team did an outstanding job of navigating my allergies & diet restrictions to prepare 4 outstanding courses! It was our 45th wedding anniversary & due to health challenges we had not been out for a meal in SJ for a long time. The atmosphere & service team work was impressive we ll be back for our 46th! Thank-you Dietary restrictions: Chef Matt & team didn t see my restrictions as a burden they navigated them perfectly, thank-you Parking: Sat night early no problem
Great coffe. Tasty food. Excellent service!
