Honestly I would give this place a better rating (bc the food was good) the service was terrible. I’m not sure if our waitress was just racist? But she would bring out one persons food, 30 mins later bring another persons food etc - which is super annoying bc one person would finish their food while everyone else just waited (and we all ordered the same thing so? ) we noticed she was helping every other table other than ours. When we asked for the bill she disappeared for 45 mins….. we saw her giving other people (who asked for the bill after us) their bills before us (same thing w good every other table was served before us). And the waitress was weirdly rude?
So, my team decided to take in the Adelaide Oyster house... Oysters were well accompanied by special sauces, fresh horseradish, and a must do bottle of tobasco ( on my request) Pork dumplings were to die for, tacos...kobe beef and red tuna...so tasty Beet salad was good, but not enough beets or so my team says 🤔 Espresso martinis...mmmmm Oyster Caesar, ya! Pep rally cocktail...winner winner, chicken dinner!! (Get one!!) Cool and chill vibe to the spot on Water...go here soon!
We went to Adelaide Oyster House to celebrate a special occasion and it did not disappoint. From the incredible food to amazing service, this place was so fun. Our server was so attentive and kind, the music was electric, and our dinner here was definitely the highlight of our trip to beautiful St. John’s!
Very busy and way too loud but it's a bar so that's expected- they had great oysters! The guy came out and explained the oysters and their sauce, they had a great selection of beer and I liked that their handheld came as singles. Delicious tacos and oysters, and even though they were packed they had fast service. Best to book a reservation as people were turned away/put on a wait list.
The oysters were AMAZING but they had the bartender putting our oyster plate together NOT the kitchen staff. The drinks were excellent. The bartender served us our drinks too. I think this bartender needs a raise 😀Thank you so much to the bartender we noticed your hard work. Keep up the good work.
This restaurant (with a summer patio) is located downtown on Water Street. The atmosphere of this restaurant is lively, and I really enjoyed the music playlists. We sat on the patio couches and enjoyed several different drinks and food items on the menu. The drinks are fantastic with intricate flavour profiles, presented beautifully, and complimenting several of the dishes on the menu. The food menu is diverse, with a lot of Asian & Mexican cuisine influences. We enjoyed Oysters, Korean style wings, Fried Cauliflower, Spicy noodles, brussel sprouts, a birria taco, and a Kobe lettuce wrap. Every dish was absolutely delicious, pretty in appearance, with bold and thoughtfully combined ingredients. Service was a tad bit disorganized, but this can be forgiven as the patio season is just starting and I am sure they will work out the kinks. The staff here are awesome, with welcoming personalities, and always keen to make sure patrons are satisfied. Thanks for a great evening Adelaide Oyster House!
We had a very nice experience dining here. Even my picky toddler was happy with everything they served. The ambiance is nice, music that I liked and the food delicious. My favourite besides the oysters was the fried cauliflower.
Great vibey place in St. John’s! We arrived right at 10, but had called the day before and let them know we would be late coming from the airport. They kept the kitchen open and were so nice about it. Loved the oysters and tuna tartare that came with homemade chips. We ordered 2 plates of it. So fresh and great presentation. Friendly service, unique drinks and early 2000s hits playing in the background. Highly recommend!
Terrible. Order was slapped together, poor quality, fried grease is what it was. Ordered $80 worth of food and can t believe how bad the quality was. Dumplings were smashed and fried black, noodles were covered in sauce and inedible, taco was fried garbage, and the cauliflower was not cooked through. Used to be way better quality but it s gone downhill. Won t ever catch me back!! Foolishness to pay for so much for zero cooking skill. To respond to the below: ya it really was that bad. Your response just demonstrates your arrogant. It was disrespectful yesterday what I was served for food . You got what you deserved - a terrible review. Maybe you need to stand behind your chefs more to ensure they re doing their job correctly.
Amazing. Great location, rustic yet inviting. Great food and staff.
Food and service is outstanding!
For an oyster house, I expected more seafood selection. However, more Korean base entries were on the menu, which was a bit disappointing. Oysters were good.
One of the most fun restaurants I ve ever been to. Loud and fun and delicious. Would recommend the Korean fried chicken, birria tacos, oysters, cucumber crisp cocktail, espresso martini, and buying a round of drinks for the kitchen.
Had a disappointing experience. My husband and I went for a dinner last night. We are visiting St. John s and had a babysitter, so we were looking forward to a nice night out. When we go out for dinner, we order multiple courses and plenty of beverages, and we spend a lot of money for this experience. When we arrived, we were told we could only stay for an hour and a half because there was another reservation after us. That automatically put us off. As soon as we sat down, we were rushed through everything, from ordering to eating. Our small plates, which were for our main course, came while we were still having our first course of oysters and we were literally finished eating in less than an hour. We decided to only order one drink and no dessert - wasn t worth it. Other than being rushed out, the service was fine and the food was good. The music is too loud - you can t hear yourself having a conversation. I would not go back for a meal again.
Nice and loud place, really fresh and delicious local oysters, quick and friendly service, definitely 5 stars out of 5!
What a fantastic gem in st johns newfoundland
Amazing experience, great oysters, really friendly staff. We sat at the bar and talked to the server who shucked our oysters pretty much the whole time. All the food was delicious - the Kobe beef lettuce wrap was excellent, as was the kimchi fried rice and the pork ribs with pomegranate BBQ sauce. Looking forward to visiting again next time we re in town.
Food was ok. Music was incredibly loud that made conversation difficult. Hostess was unaccommodating to simple table change in half empty restaurant.
Local oysters were fantastic. Fresh and flavored by the salty ocean.
my go to spot to celebrate lifes little victories. oysters are always outstanding and so too is the rest of the food and cocktails. if i were to win the lottery id be there every week
Pretty disappointing experience! Oysters were decent but way too expensive. Came with sauces but no horseradish. The wine was also not worth the price. Definitely a tourist trap - would not recommend.
Nice restaurant, the food is amazing. The atmosphere is not for everyone, but the staff is very friendly.
Nice place to chill with friends. Good music, good drinks, nice terrace
Try the beef ribs, won t disappoint. Turn the music down, way too darn loud.
Loved it here! The food was amazing! Service was outstanding! Loved the staff and good! Make sure you order a shooter for everyone... Only 100 bucks but just elevates the energy in the restaurant! Its Sooooo much fun!
Had high expectation for this place because of the high score on google map, but the dining experience was so disappointed, oyster was served fast, but I was waiting for a taco more than one hour (after 8hours flight I just wanted to eat something) , that was way too long and unacceptable, in the end, I left and ordered McDonald s in the hotel, will not come back and recommend to anyone
Music way too loud, couldn t hear any of my friends. Bloody was gooooood tho
Food was very tasty and service was wonderful. One thing that surprised us is that restaurant did not offer any sparkling water besides club soda. That shortened our dinner since we like to have a few cocktails ir wine with dinner but alao like to make aure you are well hydrated. Tap water or soda just dose not do it for us.
Loved their foods
It was a wonderful experience with lots of atmosphere! Very well eaten.
Lovely place with fantastic oysters and just the best Bloody Caesars!
Party of 6. Ordered at 5pm. Two of us ordered barria tacos, one taco arrives at 520pm, the other one at 630pm. This is normal for the food to come at different times, sorry nobody told you that It was 1 hour and 30 minutes between when the first of us recieved our food and the last person recieved their order. During our over hour long wait for food, we noticed the bartender handling money and food without washing his hands and a cook with long flowing hair cooking without a hairnet. When we finally got our food there was hair in it. Overall worst dining experience Ive had in the city.
I love their oysters, Kobe beef lettuce wraps and the fish tacos Parking: No parking downtown in summer so whether you park and walk, car pool or take a taxi and walk. Food : 5/5 |
Pan seared cod, absolutely incredible!! Its downtown st.johns so the staff were amazing. Food
Painfully loud. But, thats their vibe! Seems like lots still enjoy it. Wasnt for us though.
Everything taste amazing
Goated
Sat on the patio with my dogs. All if the employees were amazing and the dumplings were awesome.
Stopped in for an incredible lunch - absolutely delicious! Service was amazing would go back again and again!
Honest to God. The best seafood chowder I have ever had in my life. Has a bit of a kick me to it. Its so much seafood and the delicious flavor
Great place for a meal in downtown St John s. Atmosphere and vibe was great. The music was going, bar was full and oysters were shucked! Overall it was a great meal and dinner! Def recommend! The chicken sandwich was good as were the truffle fries and tuna taco.
Amazing service and phenomenal food. Nick went above and beyond. He was truly a master at making our drinks and the best server. Also make sure to show support and buy the kitchen a round!! We did!!
Had an unreal experience here. The food blew us away. Oysters are essential. Follow it up or pair it with some of the Asian fusion cuisine side dishes and you cant go wrong.
Fun atmosphere, delicious food and amazing cocktails and the service was fantastic!
The Ceasar was the most unique Ive ever had. The tuna fish rice was so fresh and delicious, oysters were top notch.
We recently ate at The Adelaide Oyster House and had a mixed experience. The service, while pleasant, was quite disorganized. The food was tasty, but I felt it wasnt good value for the price. The atmosphere was marred by music that was so loud it was impossible to hear the person sitting across from you. Additionally, I was very disappointed to find cockroaches in the bathrooms. Overall, I would hesitate to recommend this place based on my visit.
This place is a vibe. Great service. Oyster selection is solid. Just an overall must go to in St Johns.
Delicious, you can t go wrong with anything you order from the menu. Oysters- the best in St. John s.
Super yum and one of the rare places that was open for food after 9pm. Staff are very friendly
Food was super, smaller portions than some other places though, drinks amazing, service was kind, wait for final dish a little longer than expected, atmosphere seating pretty close together for some and a small bit louder than average but lively and cozy which is what we expected. Vegetarian options: Definitely a couple of reasable options Parking: Evening and weekend free for June. Street will close to pedestrians only soon Kid-friendliness: Not really but I intend to try an early slot with my niece in a few weeks Wheelchair accessibility: This would be difficult because of tight seating but crutches or cane would be fine
Had an incredible dining experience here. Would highly recommend the oysters, tuna taco, and spicy tuna on rice. All of the dishes I tried were 10/10 and the service was perfection. Amazing vibe. Would recommend for anyone visiting st. Johns
Great spot for oysters. We also had blue fin crudo, which was delicious. Very pleasant atmosphere, which was bustling and lively, and also cozy. Friendly staff.
Wow what a food experience! I am a foodie and this place is a must for any foodie out there. We had crispy chicken and rice, fried cauliflower, tuna wrap, krudo, rib, duck ramen and of course the oyster which there was a variety. We had a few drinks as well that were all absolutely delicious. Must visit for any food lover.
Decor and food was excellent. It is a little on the loud side but we were still able to speak and hear each other. Our server was lovely but the service was on the slow side. It was worth the wait however. Would definitely return and would recommend this restaurant.
Awesome vibe and even awesome-er food! The oysters were really fresh and the main plates had a unique fusion-y twist to them. A wide variety of local craft beers available too. Would definitely come back the next time I m in NL.
I got food poisoning in this restaurant. i WAS VERY ILL. I ordered some kind of burger with fries
The cocktails were excellent, and the atmosphere was vibrant. However, I was quite disappointed with the oysters. While the plating and preparation were professional, they were served without lemon slices. When we inquired, we were told they had run out for the day. Additionally, it was disconcerting when the staff began taking oyster sauce bottles from other tables for us to use. To top it off, as we were finishing our oysters, they attempted to take the sauce bottles back for others to use, making us feel uncomfortable and rushed. Also the truffles fries were very burnt.
Food was underwhelming. Drinks were ok. Kid-friendliness: None Wheelchair accessibility: None
Food was great. Lovely cocktail selection. We enjoyed the steak and tuna tartare.
This place is excellent.. service , food and vibe We consider ourselves foodies and have traveled all over North America and this place falls in our top 10 of many !! Well done Food : 5/5
The place is great but very loud or maybe im just getting old. The food was good, but in my opinion the additional greens with the fish was over flavored so the fish was not as noticeable as I think it should have been .. dont get me wrong it all tasted very good. Its a hip and happening place would I go back probably i would.
On a recent trip to St. Johns I was dragged into the Adelaide Oyster House by my wife, eager to dive into the offerings of local sea food and fusion dining (secretly I think she was heavily influenced by the Cocktail menu). On entering the establishment I was immediately taken with the decor and ambience. It was a modern take on the bar scene that St Johns is so well known for. A great little date spot or place for an evening drink and some tasty bites. We ordered oysters on the half shell, I mean who couldnt with Oyster House in the name, and they were promptly shucked and brought over by Sam the bartender. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the oysters, where they were from and the flavor profiles to expect. My wife was in awe with how distinct and flavorful each oyster was, especially since its so challenging to find tasty seafood back home in Ontario. From that point forward, we were hooked and the rest of the menu did not disappoint. Id describe the food as modern pub fare with Korean influence. The pork riblets were dynamite, salty, sweet and brimming with umami. The Korean fried chicken had incredible flavour and the fried aspect was balanced perfectly with the Kewpie mayo and savory rice. The only miss on the menu that I tried was the Kobe Beef lettuce wrap as it was dry and slightly overcooked, suffering from having been ground Kobe beef rather than a filet of beef (which I think would be the perfect fix for this dish as the flavour profile was nice). My disappointment was quickly assuaged however as the Blue Fin Crudo came out, a recommendation from our server, and was absolutely phenomenal. The tuna was light, fresh and flavourful, elevated by the cucumber and radish. The dish was accentuated by mango and serrano purees that accented the dish in a colourful, playful border that highlighted the plate. At the end of the mains, we ordered additional cocktails and more of the delicious oysters. When they were brought to the table, again by Sam, we had the pleasure of speaking with him about the area and what brought him to St Johns. Like most residents of the area he was passionate about the city as a whole, advocating for the local music and arts scene which he is deeply connected to. We used many of his recommendations on our trip to much success. All in all I would suggest if youre in the area of downtown St Johns, check out the Adelaide Oyster House as it is in my mind one of the best places in the city.
Love everyone here, they really take care of you and care about the food they serve you. The music and atmosphere is just as good as the food! My new favorite spot
New favourite restaurant in St. John s! The bartenders and servers (Nick, Paddy, and Emily) are passionate about their menu and their energy is very contagious. The Kitchen is also unreal. My new go to s are crispy fish tacos and Kobe beef lettuce wraps. It s now a must stop for me every time I m in town.
Small space with limited seating. Food used to always be good but has been off and on last year or so. Very loud but thats part of the atmosphere clean bathrooms. Good service. Drinks standard.
Unreal food
Fantastic!!!! The food is delicious and fresh. You have to try their poke and the oysters. The ambiance is very romantic. Cant wait to be back!
My dinner at The Adelaide Oyster House was one of my favourites in recent memory. The cocktails were funky, and I could taste every ingredient in them. The tacos were super flavourful, and the few other things I tried also really worked. Kit Kat Cake? Hell yeah. Despite the restaurants name, there are plenty of great dishes for landlubbers of all kinds. The service was truly stellar, what youd expect from any world class restaurant but at a fun restaurant that shamelessly plays OLP and Phil Collins. The server told me hed been in the industry for 20 years, and I believe it. Though hes moving to BC soon, I have no doubt that the rest of the team will keep rocking out great service to Aerosmith. So yes, I absolutely recommend you eat at The Adelaide Oyster House.
Amazing spot and nice menu with a variety if options. Brussels Sprouts were dementedly good. Really fun vibe and staff in here, sit at the bar if you can its a great experience. Thank you Vegetarian options: BRUSSELS! The flavour punch of this little dish
Overall atmosphere was okay, a tad bit dark for me. Service was good and fast, thankfully. We had the cocktails and they were good but quite pricey in my opinion. Food was mediocre at best but I did enjoy the chicken karaage and beef lettuce wrap. Oysters were fresh and came with 3 different sauces but they were pretty small.
The food there is fantastic. They fill up very quickly though, so you have to get there basically as soon as they open to get a seat. I dream of their Oysters, Tuna Tartare, and El Camino drink. But be warned, it can be way too loud in there. They crank the music to the point that you cant hear even your closest tablemates. Ive stopped going when the patio isnt open because of this.
Awesome food, great tunes and the service was beyond great!
No non-alcoholic beer wasnt helpful for me as a DD
Excellent location for oysters and cocktails!
small bar/restaurant tucked away in downtown st johns. the beer selection is very good and the food is excellent.
Love the vibe of this place, very cozy and inviting. Service was really good as she was very attentive. Food came out quick and I was quite impressed with all the tacos I had except for the veggie mushroom taco (felt dry and lacked flavour) that was not my favourite. We had reservations for 8pm and the music was blaring! We had to yell at each other across the table. This did not make for a pleasant dinning experience.
Staff were friendly, the oysters were fresh, and the tacos were delicious!
Good food and service.
Very nice place
Walked in, sat down, stayed a couple of minutes and left. Rap music blasting, tables elbow to elbow. Even if the food had been fantastic it wasnt a pleasant place to eat. Too bad, we were looking forward to it...
Best oysters always. Newfoundland oysters are fantastic!
Great experience. It is a loud environment but I love that. Amazing food as always
Best oysters.
Tapas-like oyster house with plenty beyond oysters and a hip, youthful vibe going on inside. The food is fantastic.
Food was very good, we tried a bunch of things and it was all great. It was pretty dark inside and the music was pretty loud but we sat by the window so it was ok. I would recommend this place for some good drink and a small bite to eat.
Very unique food experience. Good food, I really liked all the tacos.
The food tastes great and very dynamic with various flavor. All orders are excellent.
recently had the pleasure of dining at Adelaide in St. Johns, and I must say, the experience was nothing short of amazing! From the moment I stepped in, the warm and inviting atmosphere set the perfect tone for a memorable evening. What truly stood out was the impeccable service provided by our server, Sarah. Her attentiveness, knowledge, and genuine passion for ensuring our dining experience was exceptional truly shone through. She went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, offering insightful recommendations and accommodating our dietary preferences with a smile. The menu at Adelaide is a true culinary delight. The dishes we ordered were prepared with precision and skill, showcasing the chefs creativity and attention to detail. Each bite was a tantalizing explosion of flavors, leaving us wanting more. Whether youre a local or a visitor to St. Johns, I highly recommend Adelaide for an unforgettable dining experience. The exceptional service from Sarah and the rest of the staff, combined with the fantastic culinary offerings, make it a standout destination in the city. Thank you, Adelaide, for a truly memorable evening. I cant wait to visit again and explore more
Outstanding NL Metasheen oysters!
Great spot with amazing food and friendly staff! Will be back again
Lovely oysters. Amazing overall good and our server, Sarah, was particularly great. Very consistent atmosphere, excellent overall experience.
Really enjoyed the fried brussels sprouts! Unfortunately they were out of mussels.
Excellent experience! All the staff was super friendly and the food was incredible. Excellent oysters, tuna sashimi was to die for, Brussel sprouts were so flavourful, tuna taco was delicious! The fish meal Ive been craving!
I wanted to like this place but I was disappointed with the service here when the price of the food is quite high. I don t even know if this place takes reservations because when we tried to make it, it only has the earliest time slot available. However when we walked in, they didn t bother asking whether we had reservations. The food was pretty good but for the price, the portions are quite small. We ordered 12 oysters, shrimp ceviche and fish taco. The oysters and shrimp ceviche were delicious. What I was not happy about was when I ordered the fish taco. It s a very small taco that cost $9.50. While eating it, I thought something was missing so I looked at the menu and noticed that they didn t add the avocado in the taco. I flagged down the server and she said the restaurant didn t have avocado at all. For that kind of price, shouldn t you have notified me that when I made the order? They never even compensated me or apologized to me and just told me they don t have avocado that day and that s it. The server was an Indian girl. At that point I was very annoyed so we paid and left. For reference sake, I dined here on June 21. I will never return to this restaurant again. Unprofessional service. I don t recommend this place at all.
Awesome place!
Best spot in St. Johns. It is very lively, though, and can be a bit loud for some people.
The oysters and food were amazing here but the first time we came here they had run out of oysters! But when they did have oysters it was one of the best restaurants in St John s!
Good local beer
We have travelled around the world. This place exceeds all expectations. Highly recommended and we were not disappointed. The bar staff, Amber and Paddy are super friendly and knowledgeable about local ingredients and made our experience one that we will definitely repeat. If you visit St John s do not miss the Adelaide Oyster House.
Beautiful little place. Beautiful people serve your food. Their oysters are to die for. Make sure to try their pineapple and jabanero sauce. My brother and I are very impressed
Abbey was the best server, she was so knowledgeable and very efficient. She had our drinks always full and knew the menu inside and out. Thank you abbey love always duck
Great food. Emily was a wonderful waitress. We will be back!
Our server, Emily was fantastic, great drinks, great food, highly recommend!
All the servers top notch. Ian was closing he still shucked oysters for me I stayed had a beer came back today awesome oysters so fresh . Music atmosphere amazing. Keep up the great work . Everyone was lovely
Emily our server was great! She was attentive, friendly and had great suggestions. The manager, Jamie, was knowledgeable and engaging! Loved everything about our experience!
Emily was a 10/10 server & the truffle fries will change your life
Vibe of the restaurant is amazing, food was great and Ian did an awesome job serving and accommodating our group was amazing!
Paddy and Nick welcomed me back to the island with outstanding service, prime cocktails and amazing food. Both are not only accommodating but very professional and educational ! Must try!
A must stop while visiting St. John s, tonight s forecasted snow storm couldn t keep us away. Excellent staff, Ian was our exceptional server and we have never been disappointed with our annual visit .we always recommend Adelaide to our friends.
Emily our server, was fantastic! Loved the fish taco and my El Camino, highly recommended TAOH!
Nice atmosphere, the waitress was so incredibly nice. She recommended the tuna tartare and it did not disappoint, so delicious! The portion was perfect for me but might be a bit smaller for others. Also got the Berries Moctail and that was good. I will be returning before I leave, can t wait to come back and try something else! Edit: Came back and tried the tuna taco, DELICIOUS. They re small so I got multiple.
Had high expectations and they were hit through the roof. First, the best dirty martini I ve had in St. John s and the oysters were to die for, super nice and briny. The shucker is very good at what they do because all of them were perfect, and the accompanying sauces you get are very tasty. For food I got the jerk chicken sandwich and tacos, both were phenomenal. Service was great too! The only issue I had, and this is gonna be different for everyone but the music was too loud I thought, I couldn t really hear our server at times or my date and the server also had issue understanding us. The playlist was great tho, really good songs! Definitely coming back for more soon
The server was very nice. The oysters were really fresh.
The oysters are so good here! Just pricey but worth the price for sure.
Best spot in the city. Wait staff is unmatched
Trendy but expensive
Excellent restaurant....
Amazing spot! Great food, excellent drinks, super fun atmosphere and friendly staff. The jalapeño cherry margarita had me coming back two nights in a row. Definitely recommend this spot!
The food is delicate, well planned smart construction, epic in taste. Plz kimchi + oysters = happy. Oh and the service is fabulous.
Great quick service. Really loved the 2$ oysters. The food was prompt and delicious, though the small plates were not so small so overall decent Quantity and great quality of food. Also, they play 2000s rock music which is a bonus to enjoy
The food was excellent. Of course the oysters were great, 3 yummy sauces to have with them, but the scallops were fabulous! Wait staff are awesome! Highly recommended.
How fresh are the oysters? It seems like they got it right from the ocean.
Booked the Adelaide oyster house for an 8pm dinner on a Sunday during a weekend stay in St Johns. I was expecting a nice restaurant but arrived in a pub like setting. This is what I had for dinner: - Local Salt(y) rock oysters from marasheen bay NF that were on the smaller and sweeter side - Chapel Creek oysters from PEI that were medium size very salty and briny - All oysters accompanied with a delicious home made pear hot sauce - Shrimp dumplings: they were a good try but unfortunately undercooked as wrapping was very floury - Korean style fried cauliflower with gauchoujang that was a bit too greasy The wine list had very limited selection. At the end of dinner I wanted coffee and dessert and turns out the place serves no coffee and only has 1 dessert option which is chocolate based... Sucks for me that I dont like chocolate Service: The service was unfortunately not particularly welcoming. It was also very slow as it took a lond time for empty plates to be remove. No asking of how the food tasted, the server made conversion only as she brought the bill and payment machine and ensured that I paid on the spot. Cost: including tips and wine was 100+ per person Overall not my kind of experience and I would not return when in St Johns again.
The food is consistently delicious and the service is fun and lively. I love the music but it is pretty loud so I wouldnt recommend this place for a quiet dinner or an important conversation.
Great place to have oysters, the puffin bay oysters were sweet and not briny at all. The rest of the small dishes were not particularly outstanding, but definitely come to shuck oysters (12 for $45) with the great toppings.
Ok for oysters and drinks, wouldnt recommend for dinner. The two of us got there shortly after it opened for dinner service and ordered cocktails, oysters, scallop ceviche, and the tuna sashimi. Our server was very transactional and brief in their interactions with us. Not really welcoming, little to no explaining of the menu when ordering, and would abruptly put our food on the table and walk away with no explanation as to its preparation. The shucker/bar tender brought us our oysters and placed them down with a friendly here are your oysters but no explanation as to which selection he chose for us (its all shuckers choice) so I asked what we have and he gave us a helpful run down of the 3 varieties and the different sauces so Im glad I asked. The cocktails were ok, oysters were very good as well as the scallops. The tuna dish was unappealing and served with half a plate of popcorn. After that we decided to cut the meal short and get some fish and chips at the Duke to satisfy our appetites. Weve heard from a few servers from other places that its their favourite spot for drinks and I can see it being good for that, just not somewhere I would recommend for dinner.
Hands down THE BEST dining experience weve had in St Johns during our visit. The food, everything, from the oysters to the fish tacos and vegetarian dishes (have the cauliflower, trust me!) was nothing short of exquisite. The beer selection had a good mix of local macro and micro beers, and the service was very friendly and prompt without feeling rushed. Two big thumbs up. I only wish we had a restaurant of this calibre in Ottawa, Ontario.
I don t think we ve had a more unpleasant meal experience. The food was super, server was also.. but their claim to be loud and boisterous doesn t work. Boisterous doesn t have to be loud. Greeter tells us that s what their clients want and come there for sorry but if it s too loud, that s the way it is Server had it turned down. When our meals came it went up even louder. Three other tables couldn t stand the volume can t wait to leave they all said. Seven empty tables with several walking by simply too loud. How can anyone, especially with yoga sensibilities .believe that music at a volume of 9.5 out of 10 can enable anyone to enjoy a conversation or a meal? The only ones grooving .we re the staff. Wish you the best with your vision!
Great oysters and fantastic staff. A1!
What can I say?
Great oysters. They need some proper martini glasses and need to learn how to make martinis. Beefeater is the only gin they carry? #rocklife
So good. We ordered one of everything and I can t even say what was the best, they were all so good. Service was excellent. Atmosphere is really cool. Highly recommend.
Had a delicious dinner and a wonderful experience overall here. Many shareable items/tapas style with a great selection of individual tacos. Loved the Kobe beef taco and the brussel sprouts (special mention for the Korean fried cauliflower)!! The oysters were fresh and the scallop aguachile was great. Staff were quite hospitable and friendly (make a reso)! Would recommend! Vegetarian options: There were a many good vegetarian options accessible.
Great vibe and delicious menu. Service is amazing, crowd is very friendly and music is lovely. One of the best spots in the downtown area.
Delicious creative cocktails and excellent small plates. Great staff. This is a fun place to have dinner if you like fresh oysters and creative plates. I found it a bit on the pricey side (even by Toronto standards) but would definitely go back.
Awesome menu and service!!
The music was extremely loud, the service sub-par and the portions small. It took well over an hour to get the food and you cant make conversation on account of the insanely loud music.
Always love this place. Great food and service in an upbeat busy atmosphere.
Hot damn, Adelaide was an excellent experience. We only have great things to say about this spot. The aesthetic was imaginative, high end industrial, and felt big in a small space that had punchy energy. The staff were awesome; cleaning up messes as they came, extremely attentive, they worked in such a cohesive manner, allowed us to sit and enjoy our stay and were really kind. The wine list was great and had a wide variety, we ordered the Oyster Bay, NZ. For food, we had 12 oysters which were beautifully presented and adorned with edible flowers on a bed of ice. The Shucker took their time to explain the oysters origin and the sauces to us in detail. My partner especially loved the habanero sauce that was made in house it was hella pinçante. If you like a good kick in the mouth load up your oysters with this sauce. The garlic sauce and the cocktail sauce were great as well, if you re like me and prefer softer flavours the other two options are fantastic and provide a great complimentary flavour to the oysters (two Tabascos were provided as well). Next up, Cauliflower bites. This was the closest we could get to a vegan shareable, we opted in for being vegetarian for the meal and damn we re glad we did. Holy heck it was they were delicious. The batter was so tasty, the Gochujang and mayo (a vegan aioli as a substitute would be great) sauces complimented and added a good kick to the bites. We enjoyed two Hubba Bubba sticks as a treat with our bill, which was pricey but to be expected and well worth the experience and the quality of the food! We will definitely be back to relish the atmosphere and food when we return to St Johns and will tell friends far and wide to visit. TLDR: this place rocks, go here. PS we really loved to see staff rocking their own personal styles, and not being inhibited by stuffy dress code.
Amazing food, great service and recommendations on food and drinks. A bit pricey but worth it!
Good food, good vibe, good service. I understand that the overall vibe of the place promotes loud music, but I wouldnt mind if it was turned down a notch. Great spot to eat and drink all the same.
Consistently great-tasting food and innovative menu. Great (but loud) vibe. Favourite resto in St. John s.
Excellent food for those that like seafood and hate seafood. Music a bit to loud but didn t ruin a delicious meal
Always a great spot. Go try some NL oysters if youve never had em!
Flavour combinations of both the food and the cocktails did not make any sense. Raw tuna with crushed peanuts and popcorn? Whiskey and St. Germain? I gave 2 stars instead of 1 only because the Kobe beef wrap had good flavours and the server was nice.
Oysters are out of this world! Got to experience the whole maritimes through their platter and I really liked the salty taste that East Coast oysters provide. Their seafood sauce was a little too overpowering but the other two were perfect compliments! Friendly service and relaxed atmosphere. Cool cocktails too
Always a great time - noisy and fun with top notch food, service, and atmosphere.
Incredible. Amazing oysters, excellent service, awesome fish tacos, some of the best / most creative drinks I ve ever had.
Great selection of beer, oysters were great and had a selection of different varieties. The sauces for the oysters were great, the habenero peach sauce is unreal! Highly recommended if you are looking for slightly upscale food but gastropub style seafood and great beer and cocktails.
Incredible food. Everyone has a amazing Experience. Now we k ow why it was featured on the BIG FOOD BUCKET LIST. thanks every one especially Alex our server
Fun atmosphere, great service and fantastic food (lots of tapas style sharing plates). They were very busy but we had a reservation. We will definitely go back again.
Overprice and very salty on the tuna poke bowl.
Great cocktails and great food. A small menu and I think a couple more options would help round it out. The crispy fish tacos were a favourite amongst our group. Cauliflower share plate was also very good. If you have oysters, there was a spicy pear purée offered that was delicious if you like some heat. The only dessert option was a sticky toffee pudding, which was a bit on the dry side. The atmosphere is very cool and old comes out as it s ready, not all at once, which adds to the relaxed, shared meal feel of this place.
The menu was deceiving because three meals out of four we ordered were not available. Same for the white wine I ordered.. The server lady was not very gentle, not a smile during the whole night and seems irritated by our presence. The music was very too loud and 14 songs out of 15 were only Rhianna hits.. I mean, I understand staff may like it but there is a limit right.. be original at some point. The oysters and the food (that was still available) were good tho. But overall, I don t recommend it.
Dont go to this place especially in the evening. Its very loud and music is playing on high volumes! If you want to enjoy great oysters there are more great places near by. Furthermore, to reserve a seat in this place you have yo pay $15 PER PERSON, which is crazy! We went there for oysters, but theyre was very very loud. The space itself and tables are very small. We had to leave this place right away, unfortunately nobody didnt offer a refund for reservation that we made. It was awfully experience and poor customer service. The only thing that we heard from them was - sorry!
Extremely slow. We waited for 45 min sitting there. Then staff said technical issue the dishes were not prepared yet. Avg food quality but underwhelming service and efficiency.
Amazing food, atmospbere was alive and so much fun!
Excellent and exciting cuisine great for sharing
Poor service , food was very tasty. Messed up drink order , only one drink came out correctly and was charged for a drink we didnt order.
Very best oyster presentation and delicious. Service and atmosphere great!
Terrible arrogant service. No one cared.
Be warned: you won t be able to hear the person across from you. Sit at the bar if you want to have a conversation. Tables are for people who just want to stare at one another while the music blasts. We came wanting a full meal but left after drinks because of this.
Fantastic oysters , service was quality . If you re looking for good place to eat this is it
Food and drinks were bomb, maybe I m just getting old but the music was SO loud i couldn t even talk to the person I was dining with. Update: I went back a year later and I think the music has gotten even louder!!! This time the bar staff were drinking and having a grand all time. It kind of felt like they were clubbing and we were just kinda sitting on the sidelines eating and watching. Too bad because I really did like that place but $200 for 2 people to eat and have a couple drinks in that type of atmosphere is not acceptable.
Great place for a light dinner. The Korean Fried Cauliflower was our favourite plate. Staff was friendly and the service was really quick. The music is quite a bit louder than most restaurants, making it harder to have a conversation. The tables were placed very close together which was a bit awkward.
Great oysters and great music!
We loved the tacos- pulled pork and crispy fish! The scallops sharing plate was mediocre and odd but the tuna poke was great. I really loved the ambiance- a unique club vibe for dining. More fun than your typical dinner- a definite recommend!
Ive never had oysters before coming here. If this is what oysters taste like its delicious! Especially with their other menu items and a beer to drink! Theres even an option to purchase a round for the staff if you liked their food/service. Only complaint is that the music was WAY to loud.
As a large group we ordered couple of the dishes to share. The oysters were fresh, the cauliflower, scallop, and the tuna bowl were spot on. Their brussels sprouts were on the burnt side. The noodles were ok. The cheese cake was average. The ambience was nice but the music was too loud.
Sad to leave one star because the food was so delicious, but the staff were so mean. I was with a group of coworkers and one of them asked for the music (which was loud, but it suits the atmosphere there) to be turned down a couple of notches. The table beside us actually left because it was too loud. Not everyones vibe for sure. They made a point of cranking it even louder once we got up to leave and they all watched us walk away. It was kind of uncomfortable. I like loud music and am from the industry, but I also think its ok to accommodate people. They definitely could have waited until we left the building to turn it up. If loud music and good food are for you, this place is great!
Fantastic restaurant. Great food & service. We had the east coast oysters (Merasheen & Puffin Rock from NL). They were delicious. Also, had the Chicken Karaage, Sesame Peanut Noodles, Fried Bussel Sprouts & Korean Fried Cauliflower. It was amazing. I would highly recommend you try this place - although the music was a little loud; tough to converse with other people at the table.
This is a fantastic space with great food. The service was excellent. A must try for everyone.
Mediocre. Hostess immediately told us there was a table of 8 coming soon, in a hour and half? and she could seat us elsewhere we made reservations and had just arrived there was the 2 of us. Thats not very welcoming. Had 4 Drinks were not worth the price tag. Tacos where amazing, and oysters great. The waitress forget her name was very professional.
Great place, good food. Not great for a big group as the music is too loud and literally can not hear each other.
Our fav spot Nice food Nice music and atmosphere People working there are amazing
Very cool restaurant and bar. The oyster preparation was pretty neat to watch. Very friendly staff.
In saint John s , for great drinks , and oysters ! This place is a must ! Sit at the bar and enjoy this little cosy place ! That has the Bar vibe ! It s a Hip place !
Discovered this place during our visit in 2020, had oysters and cocktails on the deck and loved it. So when we came back in 2021 the first thing we did was to make reservations ! Great service, fun menu and the food was delicious, great cocktails, BUT, the music was way too loud which made us eat quickly so we could get out of there. We asked the server and she said it was always that loud, or I think thats what she said. Place was packed, another table bought a shot for everyone in the bar, so maybe it was just us??
This is your go to spot in St. John s.
Great food. Awesome service. Way too loud for me.
Great food, great atmosphere, great service.
My favourite spot in St. Johns by a mile. I was here for a week for work and tried all of the popular restaurants but the food and atmosphere here cant be beat. The Oyster selection was top tier with hot sauce, vinaigrette and seafood sauce made in house. The cocktail list is impressive and tasty and the mussels and tacos were great. 10/10 would recommend!!
