Ended up at this spot for a business meeting. The server was very polite and easy to get along with. The food was sent out quick and was well plated. The food tasted fantastic and all of us really enjoyed our meals. When we were finishing up and asked for the bill, they were quick in getting us settled up so we could pay and be free to leave when we wanted to without having to wait for someone to come with a bill or machine. We never felt rushed to order or get out. Very welcoming restaurant and look forward to returning again for a delicious meal and a few drinks.
I stopped by given this place was right in front of the hotel I was staying at and had a great experience. I ordered the prime rib, asked for medium rare, and did they ever deliver! The prime rib was tender and very flavourful on its own. A forewarning, their horseradish is fresh and insanely powerful, good pairing to the prime rib as with the aux-juis. Likewise, the service was wonderful and food came in a timely manner, tables and area was clean and staff was very welcoming and friendly. This place has great scenery and views of the port and docked vessels!!
Made our reservation online before leaving the UK. When we arrived the restaurant was within a 5min walk from the cruise terminal. Absolutely packed inside with young, old, families, groups of friends and also some middle aged Brits (us). Our server Shay was great, very helpful and extremely polite. Great food and excellent service, we made sure to ask about tips and service charges etc. (all very different from the UK).
The service quality was extremely poor, and the staff training was insufficient, which severely impacted my dining experience. I felt discriminated against. Firstly, after we were seated, no staff came to serve us. We had to wait a long time before someone finally arrived. Secondly, we were not provided with pre-meal bread and had to ask for it ourselves. Thirdly, after confirming our order with the server, two dishes were served incorrectly. My order of tuna tartare and soup was replaced with a salad and toast. I believe this was a deliberate act rather than a simple mistake! Therefore, I am very dissatisfied with this dining experience.
Absolutely amazing experience!! Awesome food and amazing service ! Good vegetarian options. There is also a party hall type separate sitting for any large gathering. The service was great as well. Very proactive and genuinely taking actions to make our experience worthwhile!
One thing that I appreciate about reputable brands for chain restaurants is the consistency in the quality of food they deliver. I've never had a bad experience with The Keg restaurants, so I'm sad to report about the negative experience I've had at The Keg in St. John's, NL. I was there for lunch with my parents in July, during what I imagine was one of the hottest days at St. John's in 2023. It was going to be one of our last meals there, and we were visiting NL for my mom's 60th birthday, so I was really hoping for my parents to have a good experience. As soon as we were seated, we noticed that the place felt exceptionally warm. We were not notified that the AC for the building with the restaurant was down until we complained to the server, which was after we had placed the order for our food. I have absolutely no complaint about our server - despite the scorching heat inside, she was very attentive and made sure our glasses were filled with cold water at all times. Unfortunately, this did very little to make the dining space comfortable for us. We ordered surf and turf, a prawns starter, and blackened chicken with prawns as a side for the three of us. Without a doubt, this was the worst food I've ever had at The Keg - everything was overcooked and just bland. And I am not blaming this on the kitchen staff - I am sure they did the best they could while working within what I'd imagine was a pretty unsafe environment from them. If the dining room was already warm for the three of us while we were seated the whole time and sipping on cold water, I can't even imagine how hot the kitchen must have been. It probably wasn't even a safe working environment that is compliant with bylaws/best practices for maintaining a safe working space for employees. I totally understand that the AC not being functional that day had nothing to do with The Keg. I sympathize with the fact that this is something that's totally out of their control. What I DON'T understand and can't forgive them for is the fact they decided to keep the restaurant open despite the dining area being way too warm and the kitchen probably being too hot to be safe for employees. What annoys me even to this day is that we were not notified of the lack of AC in the building until it was too late. If they had been fully transparent when we got to the reception, we would not have chosen to dine there, and we would have been very grateful for their honesty and their commitment to delivering the best experience they can provide to their customers. I honestly don't understand what drove the management to think it was a good idea to keep the restaurant open in that rather unsafe condition, but there was just nothing good enough to redeem the poor quality of food and the extremely uncomfortable condition of the dining room. After this experience, I just can't see myself going to any other Keg's restaurants. The poor decision made by the management that day is just astounding and honestly something worth investigating by the corporate office. In any case, I would definitely recommend avoiding this restaurant for any locals or tourists in St. John's.
The best meal I've had in St John's. Steak was perfect and the seafood was delicious. Our server was so friendly and helpful. Only four stars for atmosphere as we were seated right at the entrance to the restaurant so there were lots of people going back and forth. Had we had a table farther in, it would have been perfect.
I’ve been there couple of times ago last year, but last night I changed my mind about going to this restaurant anymore. This wasn’t like a perfect experience as we had previously. We ordered two top sirloin with mashed potatoes and the steaks were already cold when we got them. Even the taste was different from last time we’ve been there. Mashed potato was the best part of it last time while this time it was mostly filled with potato skin. The carrot and vegetables were almost raw and too hard to eat. My daughter ordered keg burger which was not cooked good either. The staff were helpful but I guess it was so busy and they had short of staff that they couldn’t handle it.

By far one of my favorite restaurants to visit when Im in the city. Its within walking distance of the hotels that my husband and I stay at. The food is delicious, and the drinks are phenomenal.
Its called a steakhouse and yet they dont know how to cook a steak? Asked for med and it was bloody with a light sear on both sides. We were first to be seated and it was as thought we were rushed to get our drinks, get served, eat and shoved out the door. We spent $204 leaving a $25 tip but the experience felt rushed and the food was sub par

Three steaks in our group were overcooked. I ordered mine rare and it came out grey in the center so I had to send it back. One member of our party ordered the duck special and it came out quite dry. The space was great and service was good but I wouldnt go back on account of the food.

We were in St. Johns for a week and this is the best place to be if you are tired of fried foods found everywhere else. Our server Lauren was so great. She greeted us with a nice smile and kept a watch on us in case we needed anything. Her service made it a five star experience. Ask to be in her section and you will see. As a typical Keg, the food is always first class, and the steaks are always made to perfection. We had the rib steak and sirloin, calamari, escargot and ceasar salad, everything was exceptional. The patio is the place to be on a nice day, and the views of the water were remarkable. A super high recommendation!

This restaurant was one of my favorites. Now unfortunately after a horrible experience, I will not be returning. Not only was the food terrible, my husband was lied to. So from the start it was a disaster. On top of this it was my birthday, so I wanted to have a good meal. What I got was horrible. The wait time alone was not efficient. Although they discounted our bills, I didnt get any apology for the horrible night. Its pretty bad when you forget your phone and go back to find the waitress talking about you to customers, Id like to add thur all of this I was nothing but nice to the waitress we had, and I did tip.So after a 3 hour wait Left there with an empty stomach and I was sweating because the Keg has no air conditioning!!! Which was the lie we were told before we arrived. By the receptionist who call to confirm our reservation.
Great place for a nice steak fast service and food came out fast even though my server had to deal with couple large tables one of which was a pretty difficult one to deal with apparently and also my own table. reservation was on time and they were friendly and honest right from beginning. I left her a nice tip as I understand how busy it can get even though some people seems to complain when things are not 100 percent for them which is pretty selfish of them and rude they need to be more understanding and consederate of other people otherwise stay home have your own bbq. Also great air conditioning way better then last year. And every dishes that came out was perfect. Keep it up keg.

What a beautiful place to watch the comings and goings of St. Johns Harbour! The patio is stunning. The food was great, wait staff were great, but they had to keep apologizing for the length of time it took for our courses to arrive. All in all it was well worth the wait!

Excellent service and atmosphere. Our waitress was really helpful and attentive. Parking: There is a long strip along the pier that you can find parking. It is paid parking. We had to drive way down the strip to get a spot. It was free though after 6pm
Went In at 7:30 for dinner to be told they have no Prime Rib, there premiere dinner. Only open for 3.5 hours and out already is ridiculous. Will not return.
Service is the only redeeming aspect of this once fantastic steak house. My wife and I went celebrating our 35th anniversary. 2 new York straps, a bottle of presseco, 2 drinks each, and my wife had an appetizer, I did not. The bill was $300 after tip. The steaks were OK, salty, small, and I found mine more like medium when I ordered medium rare. The table was bare and unimpressive, they dont use table cloths any longer. Felt like a diner. We honestly found the steaks at Montannas more tender and flavorful. We did get a free dessert to share as it was our anniversary. Very disappointed.
While food portion sizes have decreased and prices have increased, the food was still delicious and the service was 2nd to none. Our server was Caroline and was fabulous to all our 8 guests.

Overall, our experience was mediocre, and nothing we would write home about, or seek out again at the Keg. Crab cakes and salads were tasty. Two members of my party had steaks, one of which was tough, and the other, sinewy. A few items on the menu were not available. Service was so-so. Given the lofty prices, we expected higher quality all around.
Similar to all semi upscale steak houses throughout the US. The service and food were great. If youre in the immediate area and in the mood for a steak make sure to grab a bite here!

The food was great, the rest of the experience was terrible. We arrived for our 5 year anniversary and they sat us next to the large party of 20 people who spent the entire time being obnoxiously loud. We could not even hear each other sitting across the table to even have a conversation. We ended up waiting 20 minutes for our cheque and a to go box. We will never be returning to this location, We left with migraines and an all around bad experience. The Keg is always a great place to get a quality steak meal at a fair price. The St.John s Keg achieved that standard with a great meal and wine, in a nice atmosphere, but our server must have been new as he was not very attentive to our table and did not provide the expected level of service.
I ve tried the keg in different cities, but The Keg in St.John s is something else, specifically the customer service is above and beyond!!
Really beautiful interior, upscale and well decorated. Regular Keg look. Customer service was great and friendly. The food was at most average especially for the price point. The caesar salad was the most notable dish.
Party of four adults had a reservation for 4 PM( the restaurant was just opening for the day) we were waiting to be seated at a table for about 15 minutes after we arrived. When finally seated, there were about four or five families with kids that came in behind us and were seated. They served all of the families before even serving us a drink. It took over an hour to get our meal. We were the first there and seated for the day. It does not take an hour to cook a medium rare steak? First come first serve is not how this place operates. They serve families with kids first. I would highly recommend the fish exchange across the road, much more on the menu, much better service, much better atmosphere and better tasting food by far.

Not as good as we expected. We arrived at 4:45 PM for an early dinner and we were told there was no server before 5:30 PM. So, we ended up having a drink at the bar. They have a good selection of beers and wine. The bloody ceasar is filled with ice in a small glass. So, not a big drink, you got a couple of sip. I dont recommend the burger there. It was very dry. Fries were good. Friends with steak said they were very good, but one of them was overcooked. Long story short, I think you can get a better taste somewhere else for the same amount.
the food here is impeccable only matched by the service,the waiting staff is second to none but i wish i could remember the lady that served me last night because she deserves credit for suggesting the special steak of the night,i forget the name of the steak but i will never forget the taste because it was the best ive ever had and ive eaten alot of steaks from all across canada because i travel for work and this was the best by far. you really cant go wrong ordering anything at the keg,everything is delicious and the staff is great and very nice,the girl that served us brought out a free piece of cake for my 9 year old godson for his birthday and ive had that delicious cake before and it is not usually free but i guess im not as cute or as charming as the man,im proud of him and sad for me.

Attended a birthday celebration last night. We had a 9 pm reservation. As we finished our appetizers and started to eat out main dish, the kitchen staff wheeled the trash bin full of the evenings waste right beside our table, though the entire main dining room. This is not acceptable nor is it sanitary. There should be an exit for this or it should be done when dining room is EMPTY. Very disappointed and sickened.
My wife and I went to the Keg on Friday February 10.2023. The food was cold and draft beer selection was not available. This is my 4th time going in the last 6-8 months. The keg experience is certainly not what it used to be.The steaks are not hot and most with our party of 4-6 people one of us is always sending it back. I won t be going back for a long time.. Big fan of the Keg so went for Valentines with my boyfriend. I have the same thing every time, Filet Mignon- Med well and he has medium but when the steaks arrived mine was more red then his. Told the server that i understood it wasn t his fault and got it remade. Manager brought out the remake not even 5 mins later and watch me cut down the middle and still wasn t close to a thin line of pink. At this point my boyfriend was finished eating and we had been there for a hour so i ended up not eating and did not pay for my meal. Not what i expected and ruined the supper that i looked forward too.
The service is amazing, the food was 10/10, but it was very loud, it was basically impossible to have a conversation with my Fiancée who was sitting directly beside me, and the tables are very close together so we didnt have very much room either, with packed tables on both sides of us we didnt have any room to get comfortable. Also the food was extremely expensive, for two people we paid over $150 thats before our tip, we didnt order any expensive drinks either. I dont think well go again anytime soon.
We went to The Keg this evening for my husband s birthday. We were very impressed by the service we received. From the moment we walked in the door everyone was friendly and attentive. Our waiter, Bradley, was amazing. Food was cooked perfectly. Our compliments to the entire staff. Excellent job.

Good food, although very expensive for a steakhouse. The Brie was okay, but very small, same for the escargots which were good but came in small portions. The Keg Burger was enjoyable, the meat was cooked a bit more than Im used to, but it was tasty. Extremely noisy, we were sat by the kitchen upstairs even though we had a baby. Dim lighting and okay-ish seating. Overall: Overrated and over-hyped. Wheelchair accessibility: Very Nice elevator

Was a great evening. Promptly greeted at the door. Then went upstairs where we were taken to our table and our server Patrick came by shortly after. Was later in the evening so Prime Rib was minimal which was unfortunate but opted for the NY Peppercorn which was good. The blue cheese crust I added to it really complimented it all as the peppercorn was a little too much. It was a little over cooked and my dates Filet was a little undercooked but we were both still quite pleased and enjoyed our meals. We were also given free Billy Miner Pie for dessert because of our birthdays which was great! We were very satisfied and will definitely be back.

Very large portions. Great service. We were seated in a quiet area upstairs. Other tables in the open area are louder but enjoy a beautiful view of the harbor.

Kegs Steakhouse truly lives up to its reputation as a steak lovers paradise. The menu boasted an impressive selection of prime cuts, each cooked perfectly. I opted for a juicy steak, cooked medium-rare, and it arrived at my table with a mouthwatering sear and a tender, melt-in-your-mouth texture. The quality of the Steak was evident in every bite, and the expert seasoning beautifully enhanced the flavours. This was one of the best steaks I have ever had the pleasure of eating. The service at Kegs Steakhouse was top-notch. The staff was knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely passionate about ensuring a memorable dining experience. From offering recommendations to promptly refilling glasses, they were always one step ahead, ensuring I wanted nothing throughout the meal. In addition, the waitstaffs friendly demeanour added a personal touch to the evening, making me feel like a valued guest rather than just another customer. The restaurants ambiance was elegant and sophisticated, with dim lighting, cozy booths, and tasteful decor. It was the perfect setting for an intimate dinner or a celebratory gathering. The noise level was well-controlled, allowing for comfortable conversation without feeling overwhelmed by the surrounding buzz.

Not my typical go to, but am ever impressed with this brands ability to stay current. I would also add that the service is the best you will get in terms of franchised restaurants. Well trained, polite and prompt! A little issue with my food, which was quickly fixed. Also a lovely spot overlooking the St Johns waterfront.

The Keg is a hidden gem on the waterfront of St John s. The drinks and the food are outstanding. We had lobster and steak. Ask for extra butter. I m not sure what s in it, but it s good for whatever you are dipping.
God love her but our server was just super slow. There with a toddler, took 1:15 to get our food, had to ask for drinks and water 3 times. All while the next table with a different server were sat, drinks, served, more drinks, bill, paid and gone while we played for our food to come.
We had a very ordinary experience but the manager took good care of us. Thanks for saving our evening!

My family and I had a wonderful meal from start to finish this evening. Being quite warm inside, we asked if we could be accommodated outside, which was done quickly and seamlessly. The food was hot, delicious, generous in portion size and our server was very attentive. We will definitely be returning!
The food was absolutely amazing! The service was pretty good too. However, the food took a bit longer than expected. Our server was very aware and kept checking up on us. The only thing negative about my experience was that it was a bit too warm in the building. Lovely restaurant but it is very difficult to get a properly baked potato. Its usually over cooked with a unappealing taste. I have tried on numerous occasions but to no avail. Though, Id much prefer an oven baked potato Id be willing to try a microwaved one. I was told they dont have a microwave.

Great food for the price point and the best service of any steakhouse restaurant chain. Their markup on wine is between 50- 75% which is amazing considering most steakhouses charge 200-400% markup.

First time at the Keg in St. Johns. It didnt disappoint. Lloyde provided excellent service, the food was delivered in a timely manner and was delicious. A great night out. Lovely decor. The only drawback is that there wasnt any parking. If youre lucky enough you can find free street parking but most likely you will have to pay.
Love the food and the view right by the ocean
I regard the Keg less as a restaurant and more as symbol of cultural inertia. People think the Keg has good food, so they go there for good food. People think its nice, so they go there to eat somewhere nice. People think its a place to eat for special occasions so they go there on special occasions. Now, I dont actually believe this reputation is earned... its just there. The food isnt anything special, tho its priced like it is. The place is nice, I guess, but I always find it overly loud and uncomfortable.

The keg was fantastic. We ordered steaks and prime rib, Mac and cheese and Caesar salad. All perfect and tasty. The servers were super friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed the night. The only thing that ruined our nice night was the parking lot, as there was no space in the Harbour street to leave our car, we parked it at 351 water Street parking lot. On the way back to home we faced our car is wheel locked and a note mentioned we had to pay $150 for releasing the car. Yeah, the awesome experience turn to a nightmare

I like the Keg because of consistent quality of food, you know what the food will taste like no matter which Keg you go to. This time was far, far different. My salad was absolutely drowning in dressing. I ate 1/4 before giving up. When the entre came, my potato was very cold and the butter didnt even melt. Got another one but had to dig out the centre as there were two big parts that had gone bad and were really dark brown. The steak was way oversalted but edible and the mushrooms tasted as though they had been soaking in water overnight! My husband, who had the prime rib, woke up around midnight with severe diarrhea! This will be the very last time I eat at this particular Keg restaraunt!

Several meals at this location with my Wife. Service and food is always on point. Server last night was great serving our group of 9 in the lounge. Every time we visit from Winnipeg this is a must stop. Cheers
Awesome food, 5 different dishes for a group of 10, all meals were delicious. Appetizers were also excellent. Vegetarian options: Meatloaf was available. Parking: Parking lots and underground parking spaces were nearby with some street parking available, but no designated spaces for the restaurant. Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair ramp and elevator to the upstairs dining room.
The Keg is always a good place to eat. I d never had the lettuce wedge salad before so I thought I d try it with the dill dressing and I loved it. They usually cook the steak to perfection (we like ours rare), but on this night my partner s steak was medium rare and he was slightly disappointed. Our meals came with grilled vegetables and I would have loved them to be more cooked. My veggies were barely warm and nearly raw, and to be honest, the grilled veg would benefit from some seasoning. The bread served before the meal is always fresh and delicious! The server was lovely and I thought it was the best meal we ate while in St. John s.

The Keg chain of restaurants is typically a great and consistent experience at any of its locations. My visit to the St. Johns location was just not a great one, and I decided to get up and leave. This started with my arrival. The reception staff were not particularly welcoming, and merely acknowledged my reservation. There were no smiles and basically no warmth. I was handed a paging device and thats it. We went to the bar to have a drink before dinner. This was about 8pm, and moderately busy. Despite sitting down at the bar for about ten minutes, neither of the two bartenders made eye contact with us. We had to call out, and remind them that we wanted to order drinks. My drink is a simple martini with olives. I was told that the bar was out of olives, and they had very few martini glasses (which needed to be washed). We were eventually served, and two uninspired martinis (and a very, very small pour). For a high end steak house, this is really not a great bar experience. We then were notified that our table upstairs was ready. We were seated at an odd table that was located at the kitchen exit. The table kind of sat out on the floor by itself, and was the only table that had a very bright, somewhat blinding light beaming down onto it. It was an odd table in an odd location. We asked the hostess to move us, and she did. The new table location was better, and a very friendly and helpful server named Peace introduced himself. We opted to have one more round of drinks before ordering, and for one reason or another the drinks were not made correctly. By this time, we were starting to get hungry, and with the bar delays, seating delays, moving around tables and other reasons, we just werent interested in staying. Now, with this review, I cannot comment on the food taste and quality, as we never made it that far. The food was probably very good, and nicely prepared. Our issue was with the overall flow of service, the management of staff and the lack of welcome feeling. We suspected that much of this was from short staffing issues, and we have a certain amount of compassion and patience in these tougher times. Its just that we came to The Keg with the intention of having a wonderful evening of good service, welcome service and amazing food and wine. And, we just didnt have that. So, we left.

Besides the steak I find the accompaniments at the keg get blander with each visit. The flavours you would expect from a steak house just arent there anymore.

The steaks are always amazing and cooked exactly to order, and the twice baked potato is next level! Parking: Parking is tricky as it is street parking as per availability. Wheelchair accessibility: They have a ramp up to the main entrance and an elevator to the second floor!

Fantastic spot for an evening out. Staff were well organized, polite, happy, and knowledgeable. Had the privilege of talking with the head chef. He was very passionate about the quality of food and praised the staff and owners of the Keg. I will return again for this dining experience.
