69 Harvey Rd, St. John's, NL A1C 2E9, Canada
A funky little cozy nook for some brunch, lunch or dinner. We have several Gluten Friendly and vegan options as well as sweet treats and preserves
Amazing comfort food! We had the open faced turkey sandwich and meatloaf. Would never had of anticipated what we received! Soooooo delicious!!! If we lived in the area….this would be our regular place to dine! Thank you!
Loved the space with all the colours, the charm of staff greeting and serving us. One of the best meals in St. John's with great creative vegetarian options. We shared two dishes: Glory bowl made of seasoned fried marinated tofu, puffed rice, cherry tomatoes, seared broccoli and kale with picked sweet onion and Poached Pear with fennel and goat cheese salad. Note that their updated menu is on their Facebook page. Their butterfly pea flower and rhubarb lemonade was quite nice and refreshing. Make sure you stop by here before or after visiting The Rooms.
Nook & Cannery is one of the best spots in town! The food is super delicious, well-presented, & friendly service enhances the experience with a fantastic ambiance. Plenty of options for vegetarians, gluten-free diets, vegans, and pescatarians
The Nook and Cannery feels like a homely place. The food feels fresh, rich, flavourful and made with care, complimenting the decor and atmosphere of the place. Many of their dishes have a touch of fusion, combining elements from different parts of the world, and it's done well in my opinion. They'll also ask you about elements you'd like to exclude/include in a dish, and if not, feel free to ask them. Lot of gluten-free options! They also have a lot of pretty and tasty baked goods. Had my friend invite us here because he loves the place, and after visiting, "Will definitely come back again!" felt like a hearty and honest review of the place. Prices are alright - even if it feels slightly on the higher side, the portions are adequate. When we visited on a Saturday evening, the place wasn't that crowded.
This was a random surprise. Great food, and a friendly atmosphere. While I'm not vegan, the chickpea burger was delicious, full of flavour and the fries were probably the best I've had in a while. The blue peaflower tea rhubarb lemonade was refreshing and delicious! I am definitely going back!
One of the more creative diners in town. Great food, flexible for gluten free options, vegan or vegetarian. I still go for the chicken or meat options but haven’t had a bad meal here. The popcorn chicken that I had last time was fun and tasty. The pot stickers were also great. Highly recommended.
Nook and Cannery is our favourite spot in the city. Amazing and nourishing food with lots of options for everyone. There’s finally a place in the city where the gluten free (celiac) vegetarian can eat with friends and family and everyone gets what they want! We cannot say enough good about this place and how important they are to the community.
I’ve eaten here numerous times and have loved every bite. The food is delicious, fresh, interesting and hearty and will fill you up. Salads and bowls are a feast for your eyes too. Definitely a must if you’re in St. John’s! It’s a tiny place so go early to beat the lines - cause you know a place with a line up means good things inside.
Cute place with great food. Took us 45 minutes to get our order (wings and dumplings)
This place is closing down in four days so I wasnt sure if theyd be still putting love into their business given that being the case but wow the food was A++ and the staff were great. Sorry to see a place like this become victim to the harsh economy.
Amazing! Delicious elevated home cooked meals. Many gluten free options, fast and friendly service!
Food was amazing, and the atmosphere super friendly. One of two restaurants we have visited twice on our St John s visit!!
Visiting from New Zealand. OMG the best variety of menu and food was fantastic. The other plates I saw served looked well presented. The decor is shabby chic, love that you have embraced the recycling theme. Bathrooms very clean and well presented. Our server was helpful and attentive to our presence. 5+ stars well deserved from me. Thank you Christine. Waikawa Beach New Zealand
This place is great. Its obvious the food is thoughtfully prepared with quality ingredients. Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. I had the Seoul Bowl, it was delicious. Lovely atmosphere.
Great food for foodies! Will go again!
This was the first stop on our trip. Place seemed to have great reviews. Probably by people who were actually entertained here, because they didnt want to serve us, it seems. There were three people who came to say no, even though we asked once. Third person was so rude the other two also tried to tone her down. We gave our number and asked how long the wait would be - and that we would wait for their call - which never came. We came back an hour later to find place empty, but no decency to even inform us. Not sure what exactly ticked them off - would be great to know. I can try scrubbing my skin to seem a little lighter if thats the problem, because I dont see any other reason.
Surprised at their level of service tbh. Thought it was a pretty cool place to grab food at. So my friends and i (7 in total) decided to walk in last Saturday. We were told that they don t have a table for such a big group (which is totally understandable). We asked if we could wait and order our food to go instead and they were pretty iffy about that too saying we can t even touch your order until we cater to everyone inside . We then asked if you could just put us on a waitlist. Never got a call back. When we walked by the place an hour later it was completely empty so it wasn t for a lack of space. Super mean girl vibes. Like we did not need 3 people to tell us the same thing so curtly and rudely when we clarified that we understand and are on the same page as them and are willing to wait. We were all literally saying the same thing. I don t know if the colour of my skin had anything to do with them being so adamant on not hosting us but yeah definitely would not recommend going here which is unfortunate because the menu looked great!!
This was the first day and first stop for us on our trip to NL (we were a group of 7 friends). We were told theres no table big enough available, we asked them to put us on the wait list and that we dont mind waiting. The girls at the counter were extremely rude, almost as if they were competing on who could be ruder. They gave us an option to takeout food and sit on the benches outside - only to follow it up with it ll take as long as waiting for a table because we wont touch your food unless we have served everyone inside . Didn t really understand the passive aggressiveness. We put our name down and left, hoping to come back as soon as they called. We passed by the restaurant over an hour later only to see it completely empty, but no one bothered to call us. Safe to say we didn t want to eat at a place that would go to any lengths not to serve us. Im really confused as to why any restaurant would behave that way - they re very loudly and proudly gay friendly but definitely not people of colour friendly - the same could be seen by all the customers seated too. I thought by 2024 we as humans would have evolved more than this and learned to unlearn certain biases.
Horrible experience. This was our first stop in St Johns and we were greeted with extreme rudeness. The place was very full and we were willing to either sit outdoors where there was space available, or order food for takeout, but we were refused both things. We then asked them to put our name on the waitlist and give us a call once they had space. To which they wrote our name and number (apparently just to get us out of their faces) and then proceeded to never call us. We came back to check an hour later and the space was empty yet they never called us back. No idea why they chose to be so rude to us throughout this encounter. The only thing I can say is 2 people walked in right after us and the behaviour towards these people was nothing like it was with us. And the only difference between us and those people was the colour of our skin. Guess we made the mistake of walking into a place where they had a license to discriminate based on colour.
Always a good stop. Theres a flair on the food that never disappoints and its always changing.
Great food and service!
We stopped here for lunch just after arriving in St. John s for a trip back to where we got married for our 5th anniversary. It was a great way to start the trip. Quoting my partner s succinct review: The vibes were immaculate, the food was delicious, and the staff were very helpful. She has corn/soy allergies and they did a great job talking us through the menu and finding a good option for her meal. I had the Hawt Messy Fries and the Pork Belly tacos and they were both amazing with generous portions. I would absolutely recommend to anyone in the area or just passing through for a chill bite.
Incredible spot. Service is always friendly. Breakfast is solid. Dont miss this!
Great that my girlfriend could get something in town from a fun restaurant that is gluten free-celiac friendly. Fun staff and down to earth food. Dietary restrictions: Celiac
Wow - stumbled on a pure gem. I would travel all the way back to Newfoundland just to eat there again!!! The people are awesome, the music was and the food was amazing! Vegetarian options: Vegetarian s heaven Dietary restrictions: GREAT for celiac. Even better when I hear that the server also has celiac and understands where I m coming from!
As a vegetarian visiting St. Johns I was bit concerned about food selections for myself but Nook and Cannery was such a delight. The vibes were immaculate and the food was incredible. They offer many ways to adjust meals to suit vegetarians, vegans and gluten-free folks. My favourite meal during my trip!
A great restaurant, nice and quick, fun food choices and exciting menu. Well worth a visit. Try spamela Anderson. Itll give you a laugh for sure.
It s been a long time coming, but we were finally able to make it to this not-so-hidden gem! Eclectic and creative food, with fantastic friendly service. Many vegetarian/vegan options. Even though we aren t vegetarian, there were at least a dozen items on the menu that we re eager to try. We ll definitely be back!
Was one of the best meals Ive ever had! Being gluten free, it is often a challenge to work out where and what I can get a good selection of food options and here is the place! The atmosphere was so relaxed yet the service was prompt and friendly. Even down to the little reassuring GF flag in my food, this place delivered on all levels. Again, one of the best meals Ive ever had, which is especially impressive considering it was gluten free. I left feeling so happy and just sad I couldnt come back as we went on the last day of our holiday! Dietary restrictions: The gluten free food is amazing and did not taste like lots of gluten free food does! Very reassuring to have a gluten free flag in the food and the server confirm as she put the plate down without me having to ask.
Excellent meal in a retro decor. Smiling service. Very well cooked spicy food.
Cute little spot with delicious food options! I went for brunch and the burrito breakfast wrap was full of flavour!
Food is a bit overrated; service and atmosphere are excellent. We ordered a tuna bowl, popcorn chicken and sandwiches Food
Verry fresh and tasty food. It is local and you feel at home. I would push anybody towards that restaurant. Dietary restrictions: Juste ask what you need Kid-friendliness: We were with a 2 years old baby
Had it again this evening. Been there lots of times. Would highly recommend. The food was so flavourful and amazing. Service was fantastic.
Seems to be a local spot where everyone can feel like home. Nice service, I had the post-bologne sandwich to get a taste of Newfoundland, it was alright.
The best burger I ever had! Super friendly staff
Love this spot. Delicious food! They have meat dishes as well as lots of vegetarian and vegan options. They can also make many items gluten-free. Dill pickle relish is delicious and you can buy a jar to take home.
Really enjoyed this place. Great decor. Staff were friendly. Food was over the top good at a nice price point. Wife got the breakfast tostada. I got the fish cake. We had the lemonades and finished with a cookie, cause why not. Go here Excellent food Will be back
I had lunch here today for the first time. Great little spot and food was absolutely awesome!! Truffle parm fries with bacon coconut is a must try!!
Homey and kind vibes. Delicious food - great place for a big salad and some spicy fries. Omnivore and veggie friendly.
What a delightful place. Food and service were amazing!
We took burgers and were not disappointed. Delicious!
This place is a hidden gem!
First time eating here, and the food was excellent! All four of us enjoyed our meals and will definitely be back again. Loved the casual atmosphere and the service was great.
A cozy spot with great vibes and delicious food. Healthy portions, and great quality. Great brunch options. Amazing burgers. Love the Glory Bowl and Tuna Turned Ya. Highly recommend and go there whenever I can. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free and vegan options Kid-friendliness: Great for kids
Cannot say enough great things about this place. The food is not only delicious but, talk about bang for your buck! Ive always left satisfied. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. Youll leave with a smile on your face. Vegetarian options: Most items are vegan or can be prepared vegan Dietary restrictions: Most items can be made gluten free or vegan Parking: On street parking. Metered city parking
We recently went here for supper with only 30 minutes to spare before a show we had tickets for, and the staff were fantastic at accommodating us, bringing out soup and truffle fries as quick as could be! Both dishes were delicious and we made it to our show on time! Excellent service, cant wait to go back again with more time to relax and enjoy this wonderful spot!
If you need a vegan or gluten free diet. This is the place to go.
Very tasty food. Nice colorful somewhat alternative atmosphere. Vegetarian options: Very tasty bowl.
Excellant food, gluten free options were fantastic. Dietary restrictions: Many vets, gluten free and dairy free options. Food : 5/5 |
There were not enough food items on the menu. The dumplings we got were delicious.
My all time favourite restaurant a dream come true for those of use with gluten intolerances!!
Dietary restrictions: Vegan and GF options, as well as meaty- neatness for all those that like it! I had the soup of the day, Tuscan white bean, absolutely perfect for a cold snow squally day. The service was fabulous, my server was so genuine and attentive. Highly recommend. Food
Fav brunch spot in town! Delicious the vegetarian options.
The best experience I ve had in a long time. The food is unique and comforting. Every menu option gives you something special . There are things for everyone meat eaters vegans and Gluten free people there s so much option . I had the soup of the day which was (don t quote me) a puréed soup with beet sweet potato and ginger . It was the most comforting feeling it was earthy sweet and complex and felt like a warm hug. Also had the dirty Gerty chicken burger . It was a battered chicken thigh with complex spice blend with pickled onion and cabbage slaw with I think hot honey and aioli. Sorry Mary but this is the best chicken burger I ve had hands down. 10/10 would recommend and I ll be back. My new favourite Vegetarian options: So many options Dietary restrictions: Lots of GF and vegan options Parking: There s lots of areas surrounding if you can t get street parking
So friendly so yummy very original food
Great selection of apps and main course meals. Really friendly staff, prices are good for the large servings. Highly recommend eating here. And thanks to our server for the extra serving of pickled peppers!
Amazing veggie burger and fries, and everything else on the menu is delicious too. Weve never gone hungry here and the kitchen has some really unique and interesting flavour combos. Service is great and prices are reasonable. I recommend it to every vegetarian I know, especially those who have to find somewhere to feed both them and non-vegetairans at the same time.
So good.
Friend took me out for early birthday lunch for me. Loved the Bourban Burger...bit messy eating it but worth it Parking: Both sides of Harvey Road DO NOT PARK AT TIM HORTONS. YOU WILL GET A TICKER IF CAUGHT
Ill put this plain and simple, this restaurant is not good. From the poor service, the lies on the menu, and the food just not tasting good, I just cant recommend this place for anything. I tried a variety of foods here on 2 occasions. I had the popcorn chicken. The chicken was pretty dry and chewy, with the popcorn on top being very stale. The sauce with them too tasted funny. I also tried something that I cant remember the name of. It was something with chickpeas and lettuce, being served on a bed of local greens. However this dish was just roasted chickpeas, sitting in a bed of a soupy liquid with a few other things thrown in. The French fries were overcooked but they were still okay. The service was really bad, the server was rude and the food took a long, long time to come. Upwards of an hour. The water they brought to the table tasted metallic and was room temperature. Just everything about this place is a miss for me.
A fabulous evening and our little enjoyed the fries and popcorn chicken. Service, ambiance and food were 5 star all the way. Oh yes I forgot to photograph the yummy Rhubarb Fizz
When you walk into a business and the staff are genuinely happy to see and greet you, you expect that it will be a great experience. The Nook and Cannery was no exception! We had an enjoyable experience all around. The service was warm and friendly with the perfect level of attentiveness (I dont like to be ignored once were at the table but I also dont want them hovering around the table either). The menu had ample options for all dietary needs and preferences. The food... Was divine! Everything had such vibrant flavors and every bite was consistently flavorful. The portion size was ample without being too much and the price was very fair. I will definitely return, and I will be bringing more people with me! Dietary restrictions: The menu makes mention on many dishes that there are vegan or GF options.
Great service and food was amazing, w something for everyone.
Amazing food and they have gluten free beer.
Amazing food and amazing service!! Highly recommended this place! One of my favourite in the city
Creative/delicious menu, excellent service and honestly the most beautiful washroom in st.johns haha. Vegetarian options: Lots of vegan and vegetarian options!
Such a lovely place with super friendly staff, amazing and unique food, and theyre really queer friendly including gender-neurtal washrooms - one of our favourite places in town <3
Cozy restaurant and bakery. Very LGBTQ friendly, amazing food. Stopped by for the March burger battle and absolutely loved the food. Amazing staff and very cool and stylish decor. Parking can be hit and miss. Lots of options for vegetarians. Vegetarian options: Lots of options. Dietary restrictions: Can accommodate dietary needs
WOW! Had to go out of my way to try this spot the menu and reviews looked so great. And did NOT disappoint. Got take away for our last night in Newfoundland, fun little feast of Brussels, Caesar, Popcorn Chicken and Seoul Bowl. Every bite was just a whole new adventure hah but sincerely. Vegan for me and meat for the fella, we were both very impressed. Really cute neighborhood to explore too, go for a stroll in the blocks surrounding this place if you can. Most colorful beautiful row houses, adorable community. Really glad this resto brought me out this way. Double thanks! Vegetarian options: Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. The Brussels were insane, Caesar bowl also next level.
New to St. John s and was so thrilled to find this gem - delicious and nutrient dense food with several gluten free and plant based options. The vibe was very cool, kitschy and inclusive. Friendly service and pretty quick considering how busy they were. Also affordable!!
The best Brussel sprouts in the world I think. Big ol burger and more fries than a plate can hold. If you havent eaten here then you havent experienced the best food St. Johns has to offer!
Sooo good. I cant say much more
What a wonderful find! Its location is somewhat had to pick out unless you know what you are looking for. The place is whimsical and quirky....aka, a fun atmosphere! The servers were fantastic and the food was a real treat. We had the sweet and spicy brussels, popcorn chix, and naked fries. The chicken was lightly battered and juicy; the fries were great; but the real treat was the spicy brussels! They had some kick but they had a LOT of flavor. I definitely will be returning to sample whatever other delights may be waiting for me! Vegetarian options: Nice choice of vegetarian meals.
Amazing gluten free options!
Absolutely delicious. I always look forward to my meals here.
Great music, vibe and food! Friendly staff and great vegan options! Thanks!
Was super excited to try this restaurant but I would be lying if I said I wasn t disappointed in the food. The service was pretty average. Me and my boyfriend had the bourbon Betty burger (I m not sure if that s the correct name) and we had high hopes. The burger was very thrown together and the portions were completely wrong. Personally I love pickles but I actually had to take half of them off because there was a crazy amount on the burger. The amount of onions and unmelted American cheddar cheese was also very sickening. My burger was so wet that my bun actually came apart because it was soaked. I can only judge based off of the one meal I had but I really don t think I will be going back and I definitely would not recommend. 0 stars
We have been to the Nook numerous times and the food, service and atmosphere never disappoints! I truly feel it is the best place to eat in St.John s. The food is high quality, colourful and delicious. And the prices are shockingly affordable considering the amazing food! I would recommend the Nook to absolutely anyone. They are also very accommodating to dietary issues and carry many vegan, gluten-free, and dairy free options.
Been here a couple times now and e cellent all around each time. Large menu with a wide range of choices. No trouble to see the pride in the place from the server to the food. Will be back again for sure - do yourself a favor and try it out !
The happiest place to enjoy the best food.
I cant say enough about this place. Its my go-to for brunch and eating out with friends! Please do yourself a favor and dont skip this place. Vegetarian options: Great alternatives Dietary restrictions: Was super accommodating to dairy and gluten sensitivities. Thank you for being so understanding!
Cute and kitchey with a celiac-friendly menu! I loved everything I got there. My fave is the popcorn chicken.
All of our food except the vegetable dumplings was good. Everyone agreed that the vegetable dumplings filling did not taste good at all. Highly recommend the toasted peaches salad. Vegetarian options: Many vegan and vegetarian options Dietary restrictions: Many gluten free options
Awesome food in a welcoming atmosphere! Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian and vegan options, both as unique menu items as well as modifications to meat dishes Food : 5/5 |
Very fun restaurant with excellent service and tasty food. I had the Tuna Turned Ya bowl and my partner had the Glory Bowl. Both were fresh and so tasty! Ended with the chocolate torte, probably the best Ive ever had! 11/10
Phenomenal food. Truffle fries are totally worth it as well the torte. Staff are very friendly and the speed of service was great. There is limited seating, especially for groups greatly than 4.
Loved it! My daughter brought me here and I was not disappointed! Excellent choices that we all agreed on and super friendly service. Ill be back for sure!!
Hair In my food. Called food inspector. Staff very rude. If they were nice and apologized sincerly, instead of rudely I would not post this! Thank You! Keyword You
The glory bowl was delicious! I loved the sauce and tofu. Very filling.
Excellent food! Fresh and very tasty. Will go back again when in the area.
No parking. No waiting area. Slow service. Mediocre food. Over-inflated self-worth. High reviews must be from diversity and pride crowd inflating, which is the over-the-top focus of this restaurant. They need to focus on food, service, and good business practices and less on sexuality. We visited for food and service and left disappointed. Upon checkout, default tipping starts at 18% I paid the minimum 18% even though it took over 10 min to get server and no one checked on our table or refilled our empty waters at all we left thirsty. My partners food was inedible for her so she only ate a few bites but that may be a personal taste issue. My was okay but not worth a return. Vegetarian options: Good vegan and vegetarian options. Unhealthy, highly processed bar food but tasty enough. Salads looked fresh and crisp but we didn t order salad. Parking: A few street spaces in front for a couple bucks. Pay for over an hour or you ll have to add money whike you edit for food. Kid-friendliness: Not kid friendly.
This my wife and my go-to place for good food, friendly service, and a feeling like youre dining with friends. The value cant be beat and the food is fantastic.
This is truly my favourite restaurant in St. John s!! Service is top tier, food is absolutely amazing and the atmosphere is unmatched. This is a place we bring all our friends and family as everyone can be accommodated no matter the preference! Vegetarian options: Tons of veggie options!! Always delicious, never an afterthought. Rotating menu often features veggie dishes too, so check back often. Dietary restrictions: We eat gluten free (celiac) and vegetarian in our household and there are always multiple options available for us here. The menu also rotates every few weeks so there are always new items to try! Has always been safe celiac wise, which is rare to find in St. John s. Parking: Street parking available, just recently became paid parking but only from 9-6 on weekdays and free on weekends. Very affordable, service is quick so long parking periods are often not necessary. Kid-friendliness: They have highchairs for kids, bench seating area in back if available. Good options for kids, items can often be modified if there are food aversions or preferences. Wheelchair accessibility: No stairs to entry, however porch can be tight to navigate. Tables can accommodate wheelchairs or walkers.
This is our absolute favourite, go-to spot. The quality of the food, freshness of what you re eating and atmosphere can t be beat. Perfect for anyone (dates, bay family, work staff meals, etc) with tons of vegetarian, vegan and GF options presented in a way that makes folks comfortable trying something new. It s our family spot (very kid friendly) with on street parking right in front. Deadly for takeout, too, or grab a baked sweet or homemade jar of pickles or jam to go. It s revitalizing the neighbourhood and is a community hub on top of it all. Plus it s accessible! The Nook is a gift. Highly recommend! Vegetarian options: Best vegetarian food in the city/province Dietary restrictions: SO many unique and delicious vegetarian, vegan and gluten friendly options. Kid-friendliness: Started going to the Nook while pregnant and it keeps welcoming us through all of the ages. Newborn, one year, and now almost 2! Love it. Accessible entrance means a stroller can easily join. Wheelchair accessibility: Accessible!
Nook is exactly the kind of restaurant that we want in St Johns. Food is excellent and people who work there are kind; you feel right at home there.
My favourite casual restaurant in town, hands down. I was there yesterday - the most recent of as many visits as I can justify! I have a bunch of allergies and the staff have always made me feel safe while providing me with incredible food ranging from deep-fried delicacies to healthy veggies on rice. This kitchen makes kale and Brussels sprouts taste good, so in my books theyre basically magic. Dietary restrictions: My allergies can be pretty restrictive and this place is incredible. The staff is knowledgeable about whats in the food, and the menu is already designed to adjust for vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free diets so adaptations are relaxed and easy.
This is easily one of my fav gems in St. Johns! Great food! Always welcoming! Love the quaint & eclectic atmosphere. The Nook & Cannery is ALWAYS on my must list for our many out of town visitors. Dietary restrictions: Excellent gf, v & vegetarian options!
Poor service, no parking, mediocre food. Ten minutes before water & waiter. They never checked on our table or even refilled empty water glasses. Partner s meal was inedible. Mine was okay. I m vegan and there were options but beware fries are cooked in meat fryer and foods prepared together. Minimum default tip is 18%. You can manually override but there were folks behind me so I over tipped for NO service. No parking - nominal paid (very affordable) street parking. No proper lots within three blocks (you can risk illegal parking at Tim Hortons right across street). Pay for two hours or you ll have to refill while waiting for food. Crowded environment with no waiting space inside. Nice decor but loud. Dietary restrictions: Vegan options but shared fryer and surfaces.
Loved the Bowls. Best tofu Ive ever tried!
Amazing experience. Terrific menu options, and superb service. Definitely would recommend.
Beyond great food, was totally not expecting how good this would be! Highly recommend!
A very welcoming and cozy restaurant with upscale pub food offerings. We both had the chicken burger which had a delicious sauce on it, although I think it would be even better as a grilled chicken burger rather than fried! They had two local beers on tap which I appreciated. Our server was lovely and helpful and friendly. We enjoyed our meal and Id go back to try some tacos next time!
Amazing! I had high expectations after reading reviews, particularly for gluten free options for celiacs exceeded in every way! Choosing from all the options was the hardest part. The fish cake, fresh soup, and GF beer on tap were phenomenal. Couldn t resist a couple GF baked goods to go, either. The staff was also super friendly and welcoming. Can t recommend enough!
The food and service was wonderful. Highly recommend, especially for anyone with dietary restrictions. Dietary restrictions: So many gluten free options, and an exceptional selection of gluten free beer.
Always wonderful!
Food, service, and ambiance are always amazing!
The artistry and creativity combined with simplicity and whole ingredients really makes this place stand apart from the crowd. Its familiar and comfortable but always dazzling and surprising, somehow all at once. The staff are warm and welcoming, and the dishes are completely drool worthy. Highly recommend checking out this gem.
Best Gluten free food on the island!!
This is a great place that never disappoints. We always enjoy coming here for the food and friendly service. I would highly recommend.
The food was really great. The server was amazing and very responsive and helpful. We got there pretty early and it was a evening so the room was really chilly. Dietary restrictions: They do an awesome job on gluten-free.
Amazing food, amazing service Vegetarian options: Loads of vegan options Dietary restrictions: Great place if u have celiac
It was our first time here and we were very impressed. This place is an awesome hidden gem in St. John s with a unique menu & great variety of foods. They have something for everyone. We had the burger, fries, wings and Mac n cheese. It was all so good. Our server was friendly and attentive. We will be back
The staff are friendly and fun, and the menu is full of great comfort food with a fun take. I really enjoy the way the flavours work together.
My friend and I went here February 25, 2022. We stood at the door waiting to be seated. There wasnt a sign asking us to wait or to seat ourselves. A young man came over after awhile from behind the counter to show us to a table. He proceeded to another table without asking if we would like a drink. He came back with two jelly jars and a juice bottle and walked away before we had a chance to order drinks. A woman came over after a few minutes to take the drink order. We ordered the food and I had the chili fries. The food was bad. The fries were salty and they looked like they have been sitting in cold fat and thrown back in the fryer. The toppings were scarce. Not impressed. The waitress came by and asked how the drinks were not the food. We asked the male server as he was leaving the other table again whether they had any desserts he mumbled something as he passed us. Seriously!!!! My friend and I make it a point to try different areas in St. Johns weekly and this is the worse place weve eaten at yet, from the food to the service. I hate leaving a negative review on Newfoundland restaurants but this place needs some serious service and food etiquette.
Beautifully assembled healthy goodness! First time stopping by this spot even though I ve by this place many times in the past. Friendly and prompt service. Will return!
Interesting mix of food and nice atmosphere.
Beautiful people and tasty food..
The glory bowl. So delicious, I loved the tofu. Every bite was flavorful. Will definitely be going back!
Delicious food. Todays special taco was superb. Baycation beer is nice. Friendly staff. Cool music.
Excellent food and wonderful service. They have always accommodated our family. The pear salad is amazing.
Amazing food! Great portion sizes and absolutely delicious! Loved the casual 70s ambiance in the place! Highly recommend the beet sandwich, queso fries, and dumplings!
Creative food options. Great for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Very accommodating for gluten free/celiac diets. Food came out quickly and was fantastic. Very reasonable prices as well!
Wow this place was unexpectedly amazing. If your going to the museum stop here first! Staff was amazing, and the food just wowed us. Price was good too. Highly recommended.
Great lunch spot right across from the Rooms and the Basilica. The vegetarian and gluten free menu is extensive and the fish cakes are great too.
Just wonderful.
Lovely space, friendly staff, tasty vegan options. My new favourite spot for weekend brunch!
So impressed with this menu which caters to a variety of dietary needs for most dishes including gluten free, vegetarian and vegan. The Hawt Mess Fries are a must. Loved the TVP Tacos. I WILL be back for SURE!
A funky cafe with a great feel to it. Friendly staff and excellent food. They also cater to vegan and GF. We were there for breakfast and had the sausage and fish cakes bowls and the vegan choc cake and giant choc chip cookie, coffee and tea. Besides the delicous Chinched blueberry sausages, right, were the interesting mix of ingredients that accompanied the home fries; mixed root veggies and some others, with a bit of cheese. It was delicous! I would definitely recommend! Vegetarian options: They had several options to make a dish vegan. Dietary restrictions: Have GF options. Kid-friendliness: Cute place lots of room not too fancy for kids to be around. Wheelchair accessibility: Easy access off Harvey.
Went to the Nook and Cannery today for breakfast/brunch and dinner. Both occasions were epic. Outstanding food, the flavours were unique yet comforting. Service was impeccable! I highly recommend this gem of an eating establishment. St Johns Newfoundland this is the next big favourite for locals and tourists. Hang on Nook and Cannery you are going places!! Thank you for the amazing two meals for the last day of an epic vacation!!
I had such a lovely experience, the peach salad was amazing. Staff were very helpful and friendly vibes
Excellent food & mimosas....
Absolutely, the best food and service for a local (non NFLD traditional) experience. So if you have had enough cod, baloney and more cod, try this place out. Every dish is unique, filled with fresh veggies, flavors, herbs and cooked with love! Highly recommend you check out! I had the very unusual take on a Cesar salad made without lattuce, but blanched asparagus and green beans- oh my!
Only popped in to get desserts but they were delicious. Will definitely go back to try their food. The restaurant looked very cute!
Great atmosphere, very attentive staff. Food was delicious, overall great experience.
great atmosphere, great good, very queer friendly and welcoming, friendly staff. Dietary restrictions: most dishes are available vegan and gluten free
I love everything about this place! The staff was so very friendly, and funny! All the food ordered was delicious. The space is cozy and cute and I like the open kitchen. I d make this a regular place if I lived here :)
Been here three times and have had great experiences each and every time. The food is delicious, and the staff are extremely welcoming and friendly. Such a great place to get fresh, tasty food!
Excellent spot for a healthy hearty lunch. I had the glory bowl and oh my goodness it was...glorious. the sauce was incredible. Tofu done perfectly. A wonderful assortment of perfectly prepped veggies to go with it. My husband had the black bean burger and fries which were amazing. We often have trouble finding good vegan food when we travel but this place hits the spot and has many vegan options. Our server was delightful as well. We ordered one of each of their vegan pastries to go and had them for breakfast the next morning. I dont know how they make their vegan puff pastry but Im going to be asking for the recipe next time.
Staff was great. Their suggestions were all delicious. Nice chat with Lex(sp?) about the delicious bowl they created and they gave us some other suggestions for delicious vegan fare. Highly recommend this spot. Also, the blueberry pastries are heavenly.
I got take out but the atmosphere felt so comforting and cool. One of the coolest spots i ve seen. I got the Hawt Messy Fries in a regular and the portion was way more than expected and it was the best food i ve ever eaten for real, so good and so filling. To top it off I only ordered one sprite and the person there gave me 2. 5/5 easy best experience ever.
we went for brunch and the food and service was great. Our server (Anna?) was awesome. Very kind and even came to our swift rescue disposing of a wasp that got in through the window! The menu also caters to any and every dietary restriction that you can think of
My favourite restaurant in town!
By FAR my favorite spot in town! Ive tried most of the menu by now and have never been disappointed. Food is always super fresh and flavorful, with a menu to suit every type of dietary restriction and palate. Friendly service and a cozy setting. Theyre also open on Mondays / Tuesday when a lot of other restaurants are closed!
This small restaurant not to far from the city center, was really good. We had lunch here, and noted that the menu is focused on healthier food items, but still very delicious. It tends more on the vegetarian/vegan end of the scale, but still has some incredible meat dishes (like pork dumplings). But, the real thrill here was the creativity of the menu items and ingredients. I had the Seoul Bowl, a Korean inspired bowl with kimchi, tofu, egg, carrots, pickles, broccoli and basmati rice. It was really very good. I also observed others around me eating other menu items, and everyone really seemed to enjoy it. In a city where pub food is quite common (and good), its nice to find a place with a great menu, and where everyones food tastes can be satisfied. You will not be disappointed.
Delicious food, great atmosphere and amazing staff. The truffle fries are to die for! Presentation of the food is very well done. We had a relatively large group, and everything came out perfectly. Our server was lovely! They were bright, friendly and courteous the whole evening (and even cracked a few jokes with us!) It is a safe space for those who are a part of the LGBT+ community. We will most definitely go again!
Ive been here five times now and have had excellent experiences every time. Excellent service and food. Great atmosphere with nan-chic decor and good music vibes. A wonderfully queer-friendly space, I cant recommend this place enough. Its honestly my favourite spot in town. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian and Vegan options available Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free and dairy-free options available Parking: On-street parking along Harvey Road
Lots of quirky touches that made the restaurant interesting. The chicken burger was underwhelming. The sauce and veggie toppings were good but the chicken itself didnt have a ton of flavour and the sandwich needed a more robust bun. Fries were okay but at least they gave me a hearty portion. I would overlook all of this but for the price; the chicken burger and a single cup of drip coffee cost more than $30! People seem to like the vegetarian bowls, burgers, etc. so maybe its just the chicken sandwich that is lacking but with a 4.9/5 rating, I expected much better.
Good place to find gluten free and vegan food that is good!
Megan and crew have nice energy and seem to enjoy working with each other. Creates a nice atmosphere. Really liked the varied menu options. Husband liked the large portion. Lots of flavor to their dishes. LGBTQ+ friendly eatery. Sitting by door was not the best option at this time of year. All else was great.
Lovely with an interesting menu. Vegan and gluten free options available.
Just Fantastic!
One of the first places my partner and I went when we just moved to St. John s and it quickly became our favourite restaurant. The nook has great vibes, very friendly staff, fantastic food, overall a rare gem of a restaurant, highly recommend!
Went as part of a larger group for a Christmas event. Food, cocktails and dessert were great. Loved the messy fries, stuffed Yorkshire pudding and wings.
My favourite restaurant in the country. Amy Anthony has found the perfect mix of casual excellent vibe and astonishingly delicious food with big bold tastes and super fresh ingredients. Her attention to detail is exquisite, and she makes it seem effortless (it s so not effortless). The staff is fantastic, it feels like a happy team. I loved looking around and seeing the other customers delight. What a spot. Perfect for, breakfast, daytime meetings, weekend evening supper hangs, bed lunches, and cocktails.
Would recommend for lunch, drinks. Tasty light fare with lots of original flavors served by an effective staff in a chill retro atmosphere. N&C is licensed and provides lots of mixed drink ideas as well as standard brew choices, NABs etc. Generally, I dont notice deco or vibe when eating out because in most restaurants its unremarkable. However, nook and cannery is worth mentioning, because it has a carefully crafted, idealized mid 70s Greenwich Village cafe feel as you might imagine it-including coffee cups from Nans kitchen and Joni on the stereo. Despite being newly decorated it feels comfortable and lived in, as if its been up and running like a top for decades. The kitchen is open, with a bar looking on the grill area. There is plenty of room for a sit down at numerous tables. The light was perfect for lunch time, coming through the windows on the south wall, which adds to the vibe. I had a beet / tofu sandwich (perfectly toasted bread) with tomato jam called the smoky beet LT extreme, with a side of fancy fries that come with sauce, kimchi, cilantro and chopped green onions. My dining partner had a vegan burger called the DiDi, with a side salad. The food was exceptional, and I dont say that lightly. One of the best lunches Ive had in ages. The salad was one of the best we can remember. The flavors are distinct and combine well. I imagine the rest of the menu is similar. We had a raspberry lemon scone to go which was also top notch. The current prices make it a steal. Cant wait to eat there again.
Loved it! I had the Seoul Bowl, and my partner had the Buffalo Bertha and I swear we grinned like a coupla dummies the whole time. We dont treat ourselves very often lately, so it was extra special, and Im so happy we tried this place. The service was great too :)
A welcome addition to the area! Staff were warm and helpful. Menu includes creative vegetarian options. We had Trini Doubles, Smokey Beet LT, iced tea and chocolate chip cookie. Enjoyed it all! The Trini was a little dry (missed a sauce or dip) and the Beet LT tofu was a little soggy, but these did not detract from the experience because Nook offers great value for money. French fries, tea and cookie were perfection. Restaurant and bathrooms were clean. Atmosphere was cheery and wholesome. Loved the retro design pieces, like the geometric tablecloth. Keep up the great work and I look forward to visiting again.
Delicious options, great prices. Vegan/vegetarian and gluten-free options ? Wow.
Possibly the best food in this city! FRESH, unique, delicious, and very well priced. The staff is outstanding and the coffee is best kind. If I could give it 10 stars I would!
Food is incredible! I had the bacon mushroom melt and it was so good!
Highly recommend! Delicious food,. comfortable friendly atmosphere, top notch service!
The best business owner, nice staff! Awesome, inventive menu and delicious food. Beautiful atmosphere! They utilize local food products and its awesome.
This is a little gem of a place! The food is delicious and the menu has fresh ingredients prepared with a creative flair. Prices are very reasonable. I extremely enjoyed my meal and cant wait to go back!
Try the burgers and the Seoul bowl!
We ve eaten at the Nook a few times now and it s always fresh and delicious. Exciting food and drink in a comfortable environment with excellent service. Awesome meat and vegetarian options, great baked goods, homemade iced tea and lemonade. Whaddayawant?
Excellent food, beer and service! Definitely worth a visit.
We stumbled on this place after a visit to The Rooms and it was amazing. Great veg options, probably the best food we had in St. John s (including much pricier places). Definitely worth a stop.
Really liked the salad selection and the soup special squash
Fantastic local spot for delicious food! Can t recommend enough . They have fantastic vegan and gluten free options as well.
By far the best food and atmosphere in st.johns
Interesting food options here. Not things I have experienced before. But they were tasty and filling. Thank u!
Delicious food at great pricing. Lots of variety for gluten free (celiac) food and drinks. Comfortable atmosphere. Easy to find local free parking and easy access to downtown core. Already planning my next meal there!
Fantastic.
An awesome little spot! Local ingredients, fresh and really tasty. Highly recommend the fish cake or the Smokey Beet LT. Lots of vegan and gluten free options. Reservations are recommended.
I stumbled on this place while trying to get into another top vegan restaurant that happened to be closed. Before coming to St Johns I googled best vegan restaurants and this place never made the list nor did it show up on Google maps. Let me tell you, this place belongs at the top of the list. They have vegan, veg, gluten-free, and meat options, and the options and flavours are great. Not just boring bowls and salads but big scrumptious and flavourful things. Vegans rejoice, this is St Johns best.
Great food and drinks.
Excellent food
Delicious Mac n cheese!!
A diverse, delicious menu in a charming location. Service is always friendly and fast. A newcomer but already easily one of my favourites in St. John s!
This restaurant is such a charming little hidden gem, the atmosphere is homey & I think that is in large part because of their vintage ornaments & dishware. Any fan of vintage trends or supporters of businesses operations that lower environmental impact would be in their glee (I know I was). Beyond aesthetics, the food is absolutely amazing, especially at its price point. The Nook and Cannery far exceeds its competition in taste, in quality, & in style. Other restaurants, even beloved local stars, dont have the unique sparkle that this restaurant has. They offer vegan & gluten free options on all of their menu items, & even though Im not someone who requires these kinds of items I routinely choose them over meat or gluten options because they are simply delicious. It is rare to find a Newfoundland restaurant that doesnt just grudgingly cater to diet restraints, but that designs the menu for them.
Best thing that happened in St. John s!! Definitely worth every cent. Must try. Will be coming back to try the rest of the menu or the updated menu. Also, the lady taking the order was super x3 friendly and helpful!!!!
My partner and I have been to The Nook and Cannery a few times. Always a pleasure to be there, incredible food and impeccable service. Not the mention the baked goods!! A sin to leave without grabbing some sweet treats to go! I cannot recommend this place enough, if you want a cozy welcoming delicious filling meal and some great company you need to go!
The nook and cannery is a great place to go for food anytime of the day. The staff is incredibly friendly and the food is DELICIOUS!! Highly recommend going if you haven t yet.
Good service and unique food options.
One of my fav local hangs
What a little gem. IMO, the nook has the best food in the city. Such a perfect spot to go with friends as it can accommodate everyone (vegans, veggie, GF and meat eaters.) The food presentation is something out of a magazine. Vibe is cosy and warm. Dishware is vintage with classic nan vibes . The staff are genuine, and thoughtful. It s always refreshing to go somewhere and the staff remember you !
