THE ROCK brings you steakhouse dining with top quality ingredients and a true steakhouse experience. 100% locally owned and operated, with an exceptional menu, great staff and decor to match, THE ROCK will be your spot to pause and gather to share a special meal in a very special place.
The wagyu itself was good, but it was really salty, so salty that it made us question our life. Appetizers were much better than the main dishes. Steak was heavily carbonized, but the fish and chicken had no taste... Not worth the price.
Went to celebrate my Sister’s birthday I Hve their delicious Fish and Chips! Was full of flavour and mighty filling! The Restaurant was most cozy and clean! With the service out of this world! Thank you, Emily! A definite awesome place to hang out for a while!
The restaurant is located close to the airport. The restaurant's decoration is attractive. However, I was not pleased with the food. The bread was cold!!! It looked like I had chewed rubber!
What a nice surprise to find a locally owned airport restaurant with great food and friendly service! We shared the Fried Shoal which is the best we’ve ever had! The fish soup was excellent with lots of seafood in a light flavourful broth. The Caesar salad had real bacon and capers, delicious. Would highly recommend.
With our vacation winding down and staying at a hotel close to the airport, The Rock was next door! A huge shout out to Tamara, our sever. What a friendly person and attentive. We ordered just appetizers that evening: tuna tartare and a spinach and goat cheese dip with a couple of beverages. We were so impressed with the service and food we went back on night #2. This night we had Jill look after us. We ordered oysters as an appetizer, steak, potato and all the trimmings with a scallop topper. We actually shared the steak, the servings are huge. I have to stay this is the place for steak! Well done to The Rock and its crew. A beautiful atmosphere, fantastic staff and top notch food!
It was ok, my steak was overcooked which is unfortunate for a steakhouse. They were so busy they didn't ask how everything was. We were told that it was so busy that they had to open the other room but it seems like they forgot about us. The table bread came out with the rest of the apps which was a little strange. We also asked if there was refills on soda and was told no then they said yes.
One of the best meals we've had in the city. Steaks were cooked to a perfect medium rare, and the scallops and shrimp were incredible. Dessert was great too. Our server was delightful as well.
We had a great time and the ambience was perfect for any occasion. The waitress was attentive and offered her recommendation. Our food took a while to get out due to one of the orders taking longer time to cook but the wait was well worth it. The steaks came out at the right temperature and well seasoned. Appetisers was filling and right for starters. Pricing was also moderate compared to the portions. Overall we had a lovely time and we would definitely be back.
Steak was good, never got our mushrooms and onions until the meal was finished. Baked potato wasnt warm enough to melt the butter and the vegetables were steamed but raw. The muscles were too salty to eat. The drinks were double the price of anywhere in town as well. For a $200 meal, we were not impressed!
Not the best place to book for a group outing. Charges $87 for a $37 meal with mandatory 18% tip when you book in advance for a group. On top of that we had to select from a limited section of the menu. A bit too greedy for my taste.
Tamara was our server and she was just lovely! The food was amazing (probably the best spinach and goat cheese dip I ve ever eaten) The restaurant itself was clean and quiet, the music was great. Will definitely come back again Food
Service was amazing, Tamara was great, fantastic Kid-friendliness: Tamara was amazing, so friendly and professional Food : 5/5 |
Great food, excellent service by Tamara!
Tamara took us through the extensive menu and served us with a smile. The best food we have gadin St Johns
What a wonderful evening! The food was awesome but the service was even better! Thank you Tamara for making our night!!
Everything was great. Tamara is the best
It was flavorless and expensive, not a good combination! Ordered the pan seared cod fish, it had zero flavor. It was missing salt and pepper, and the lack of a sauce didnt help since it was dry. Also ordered the loaded bake potato, which was unseasoned and dry on the outside, which made it hard to eat. The inside was pretty good but still disappointing since the outside was dry and hard. The potato was also listed alongside the rest of the side options, so I assumed it was a regular side; another mistake, I was charged $6 even though it wasnt listed as a premium side on the menu. With how poor it was, that was infuriating. Salt and pepper were available at request for the tables, but the server was too busy, so I ended up not waiting. That was a mistake.
This is used to be my go to for steaks but the last couple I have had do not reflect the cost. It very disappointing there steaks were top notch. Also the service is not up to par with other restaurants in their class. I hope there not on a downward slide I really used to love the place. Food
Very nice decor and good food but the seating needs major improvement. Bench and chairs are for diners...
Not a good experience dining in for supper. We had a table of 5 with a bill of almost 600 dollars. Out of the 5 meals one person was satisfied and the other 4 had a bad experience. The appetizers were ok. The spinach dip was nice. French onion soup tasted burned and charred. The table bread (which should have been served regardless and not as a 4 dollar charge) was enough for one person not so much a table. The burger was okay but the patty was dry. 3 striploins with all the same complaint, which was charred and burned on the outside with absolutely no seasoning. The mac and cheese sides were ok. I upgraded to a loaded baked potato which was an extra 6 dollars and struggled to cut through the old overvalued skin. Even with a steak knife it was difficult to cut. The deserts were the best part of the meal. Apple crumble, red velvet and Italian cake, cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding were the only saving grace to the meal. Unfortunately, they ran out of sticky toffee pudding so only one of us could get it after ordering. Our waiter was nice and service was quick. One of the waiters came to take some plates before desert and the overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke turned most of our stomachs. Even as they walked past several times it overwhelmed us. Overall this was a truely regrettable experience. Especially while celebrating 2 birthdays and spending such a large amount of money on a meal.
The table bread was cold + rubbery and the cod fish was teastless. prawn crown was good I recommend it Food
We had such a lovely experience with Sarah and Makayla. Everything was prompt, the food was delicious, and they made sure we had everything we needed at every point. Thank you so much!
We went to the rock steakhouse bar and grill tonight, and we had Melissa Gibbons as a server. The food was good but the star of the whole experience was Meliisa. I asked about two different cuts of steaks and her knowledge about both were great. She also sold us on the toffee pudding and it was certainly worth it. She made the night very light hearted and extremely welcoming. Thank you to Melissa and rest of the staff on making it a fantastic night!
We had the bbq glazed chicken and striploin with steak salad and garlic mash with sweet potatoe fries. Service was excellent from Emily and the bar staff were very helpful and accommodating. All our needs were met and our extra requests were met with comedy and kindness... It was a group effort to get the jar of pickled asparagus opened for the Cesars and they were delicious. Great management is definitely key in this restaurant. Parking: Holiday Inn is next door so i believe you could park there.
Always a great meal at Rock!! We had Sara & Tamara as our servers this evening, they were great as usual. Whenever we want a good steak, this is the place to go in town.
Food and service was very great! Tamara was there for everything we needed!
Food was impeccable. My pasta Tagliatelle was other worldly. Tamara couldnt have been more helpful or welcoming !
Great service and meal! The Rock has the best drinks and is our go to for a good steak. Tamara was our server and was excellent.
I had an awesome experience at this place. The food was delicious the bathrooms are clean and the floors are not sticky like some places. The atmosphere is good great music and the staff are very kind will definitely go back I definitely recommend this place.
Absolutely amazing from start to finish. The service was great. Our waitress was great, the two waitresses helped eachother out when needed and the food...oh my the food. We left saying it was the best meal we had at a restaurant in a long time. We will definitely be back when in St. Johns!
Stylish interior and friendly service. The salmon was perfectly cooked as was the steak. The place is suitable for both business meetings and romantic dates. One of the best places in St. Johns.
All of our meals were very good and the atmosphere was pleasant. While on the pricey side, the food was delicious, and there were other affordable options available. Overall a positive experience dining at The Rock.
Our Server Emily was 10 out of 10 , and the meal/steak was also 10 out of 10 , we really enjoyed our night there. Will be going again for sure.
We visited for my son s birthday and ordered the tomahawk steak. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The steak was just okay chewy and lacking in flavor. For the high price, we expected much better. There was no table bread, no birthday treats, and not even steak sauce offered. Compared to the Keg, this place falls far short. We won t be going back.
Great service
Great food, service and environment. Steaks are the best in town.
Food is 5star, service is 5+
They only gave us one waiter for almost 30 people, the drinks took 40 minutes to arrive and the food took even longer then that. Multiple meals were incorrect, the garlic bread tasted like biting into raw garlic, the stir fry was overcooked, multiple steaks were overcooked, dry and salty, the manager was rude, they incorrectly billed one of the meals. In total we were there for almost 3 hours and there was an automatic 18% tip which was not earned what so ever.
We came before out flight. This was the best meal we had in St Johns. We had the soup and sandwich. The teriyaki chuck eye steak tips were tender and delicious. The Italian wedding soup very tasty. Service was quick and friendly. I would definately recommend it.
We went here for dinner a week or so ago. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and the service was outstanding. Our appetizers were amazing(the duck drumettes are unreal, as was the pan seared shellfish). I ordered the ribeye with the Potatoes Romanoff, and my fiancé had a filet with garlic mashed. The steaks were perfectly cooked, but were unbelievably salty(and I love salt!!!). The potatoes Romanoff were really bland and dry compared to the garlic mashed, and I wouldn t get them again. I also ordered mushrooms and onions which arrived before the steaks. The FOH manager saw this and took them back, saying they would bring fresh ones when the steaks arrived. This may have been the case, but if they were freshly made, I would hesitate to order them again, as they weren t very flavourful. All things considered, I can t say that we won t return here, but for the cost of the meal I certainly wasn t as impressed as I expected to be. Appetizers aside, we ve had as good a steak at other places in St. John s for less, however the atmosphere and service here is definitely more upscale and does add to the experience.
Burger and ribeye were just OK; for the price you pay the food should be spectacular and mouth watering, it wasnt. Weve had better food at other steakhouses for less. Disappointed and wont be back...
Food was the best thing we had so far in NL. Pan fried cod was amazing . Was disappointed with how some customers were dressed given that you required reservations for dinner
Great background music as well. Nice people Perfect restaurant next to hotel Holiday Inn which is close to the airport Food : 5/5
3 times going in there and no one in the restaurant and been turned down saying it s a 1hour 30min wait . And no one in the restaurant .. ok .. really care about their service
The Rock is a nice place to go once a year for a special occasion, or if your company has a great travel plan to pay for dinner. It is not a casual place or something to do on a random night. The cost is astonishing for the food. The mains need to be lowered by $10-$20 a plate, the Nickle and dime cost of Table Bread for $4? Really your selling yourself as an upscale steak house and cant afford table bread? Extra for steak sauce... Really cant offer a sauce included for the price you charge. Extra for glazed carrots clearly cant afford the brown sugar they need to charge the extra on top of an already expensive steak. Frankly the staff make this resturaut. Oh.. The atmosphere, Im not sure if the owner plan on resale and decided to go for a Barn look so they can sell the building as a stable later, but my God rhe acoustics in the space is horrible, every little sound echoed in the building. Like a beer hall! Over all, went once cant see myself going back. To bad, would like a nice alternative to the Keg... Its gone down hill as well. We just cant have nice things in Newfoundland. Parking: Getting into the rock parking lot is a mess you need to go through the roundabout exit by the hotel, drive down to the back take a left and drive all the way down the road to find the back entence to the restaurant to park. Terrible navigation. But this isnt the Rocks fault its the layout of that silly section of road.
My steak was cooked to perfection. Excellent service. All in all a very pleasant dining experience. Parking: Handicapped parking right in front of the door.
I ordered a JAPANESE 45 WAGYU STEAK. It was so fat. It was even fatter than CaseOh. But it was still very good . And also Stella Lu stop complaining there was a lot of parking space.
An absolutely awesome experience. The food and service was top notch. Could not think of anything I would change. My new go to place in St. John s Food : 5/5 |
The food was delicious, but the menu could benefit from more variety. The drink selection was good, but a few more creative cocktails would be nice.
Over rated for the most part. Had the 18oz ribeye which was done perfectly .. sadly thats all that was up to par. Slider appetizers were so overcooked and dry I needed another glass to get them down.. colleagues main course the rock burger was just as dry... macaroni and cheese side was bland with very over cooked pasta... Only reason to go here is if you want some waygu beef.. otherwise save your money and go to the keg
You gotta eat here! Everything was perfectly done, and the staff were knowledgeable and friendly.
Food was delicious! Service was exceptional! Thank you Emily and Christain for a fabulous evening!
Great service, kind manager and amazing food. First restaurant we ate in St-John s and we talked about it the whole trip!
My table was happy with their food. The staff was nice. They were accommodating. My steak was fair to middling. But lets be kind folks 3 is still a good number of stars.
Manager was very nice given the situation. Order kids chicken fingers. Came out raw and pink throughout. Left immediately but everything was on the house due to that.
I came to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We made reservation and mentioned about our special day. My wife ordered Kobe Wagyu and I ordered Bison Ribs teak. Both of us ordered medium. My bison was perfect. Vegetable, truffle fries and garlic mash was superb too. only Kobe Wagyu was way over cooked and charred. First of all after waiting almost 30 minutes we received our wrong appetizer. We ordered raw Oyster, we received baked one. Oyster was not clean enough and was not separated from the shell. I never seen small Oyster in my life. 6 Oysters for $22. Also server did not tell us about the portion size of the $230 wagyu. When Wagyu steak arrived we showed our server that steak was overcooked and well done. we requested medium. she was telling us to cut from the middle and see. we showed her it was white like well done in the middle too. we did not talk farther. Before I review here I informed them through Facebook messenger. Instead of saying anything they gave us heart emoji. It was strange to see no reply but a heart emoji. Bit of insult huh!! lol We were at least expecting that server would offer us to see dessert menu at the end or offer any house special at the beginning. No bread and butter to the table, not even any chips while we are waiting for the food. Seems like they don t care at all. We are not saying to give us free food or dessert. We expected bit of welcoming gesture and expected better service where sells Japanese Kobe Wagyu. If I go somewhere to spend $500 for dinner I would expect exceptional level in food preparation, in service and in atmosphere. I felt like we went to Granny s Soup and Sandwich restaurant. Last not the least, I wont recommend for trying out their Wagyu. My other friends told me the same who tried before. I thought I should go and see by my own. My friends were right. I wish them good luck .
Shared a tomahawk with my son and it was exceptional! Wife had the bison, and loved it. I ll definitely be getting that next time around. Tried the bone marrow and beef tartare as apps. The bone marrow was very tasty, quite rich, definitely not something to over do it on. Tartare came with a lot more than expected - plenty for 3-4 people to try. Service was top notch. Manager even came out to chat about the gin that was in one of our drinks. All the staff were friendly and attentive but not overbearing at all. Atmosphere was very nice. Plenty of space so you don t feel crowded by other guests. I ll definitely be back.
Nice place with good food and service.
Absolutely Incredible spot to go for food and drinks, the menu is phenomenal from steak to appetizers, and the burger is the best around! I ve taken clients here, my family here, cannot say enough good things about the service and the food! Highly recommend and will be back!
Take out order review only!!! The service was great, the atmosphere looked great, but my takeout order was not great. I ordered the fish soup and smoked salmon. Definitely not worth $85! I should ve known better to order seafood at the steakhouse! Lesson learned!
Honestly, its a nice spot, the wait staff is super friendly and competent, but you would think the kitchen would know how to cook a steak, particularly at the price point theyre asking. Our table ordered three steaks, and each came out overdone. Carrots were, paradoxically, underdone. For a steakhouse, thats a bit sad, Id avoid this place or order something other than steak.
Was in town on a business trip, friendly staff with a great atmosphere! Awesome food, highly recommend
Had an awesome time! Gillian was super friendly and the food was great
Stopped by with the family for lunch before our flight and we had an absolutely wonderful experience! Our server Jillian was amazing and the food was delicious!
Ordered online items weren t heard when placing the order. Need to get people who can speak and understand English -/ the young Indian girl was clueless
Very nice place to eat .the oysters were fresh and delicious. The ribeye was very tasty and cooked on point ! Service from Grant was immaculate . I highly recommend .
It was our first time at The rock steakhouse but will not be my last! The food was outstanding. Best steak I ever had. Service was great! Can t wait to go back.
Not worth the price. Keg is better. Parking: Hard to find because of set up and round about. Kid-friendliness: Dont know Wheelchair accessibility: Yes
The food was phenomenon from starters to main to desert. Tamara and the entire crew are class personified. Ty to all involved. A special meal for a special occassion hosted by a special place.
It was a decent place overall but I think the keg is still the best if you want a feed of superior steaks and good bang for your money and service. Think Ill stick to the keg.
I was the for brunch and I was pleasantly surprised...it was excellent.
Awesome experience as always, been there multiple times and have always gotten some sort of Rib eye but decided to go for the double smash burger this time ( I should have stuck with what I knew was amazing ) The burger was alright. Nothing to write home about but still better than most and it was very reasonably priced. That being said I wont get it again. If youre going here do yourself a favor and get the steak and dont make the same mistake I did. As always the service and atmosphere was top notch. All in all great dinner minus the fact that I decided to go for the burger over a steak.
Blue dot ribeye was over salted, overcooked. It wasn t looking nice at the plate, zero aesthetics. We ordered well done, not burnt out. We were sitting near the wall , in the corner, not very nice place. So, it was our first and last visit. Our servant was a nice person.
We went as a group of 4, and all the food tasted very good. I loved my seafood pasta, too.
Great sea food and steak
Staff were friendly. Atmosphere is comfortable. Ordered margaritas and Caesar s. Both choices delicious. For appetizers we had table bread and wings. Both sauces for wings were perfect. Food came promptly, very little wait time. Parmesan truffle fries very yummy and the steaks were cooked to perfection. Wouldn t change a thing about the night! Thank you!
Had a great dining experience at The Rock this past weekend. The staff was friendly and the food was amazing. It is pricey but in my opinion worth the price you pay. Well definitely be going back again!
Amazing service Thanks to our hostess Makayla Tuttle and our server Sarah Fowler. You girls are awesome! The food was absolutely delicious! Beautiful atmosphere. If you want a great place to dine I absolutely recommend #therocksteakhouse #stjohnsnl
Very good steaks
Amazing wait staff. Great food. I highly recommend.
Always made a point to take my wife to the Rock when visiting St. John s, this time was very disappointing. We both ordered Rib eye steaks. I ordered my steak medium rear it came out as a well done strip loin, I couldn t chew it up, it was absolutely terrible. We do know the difference between a strip loin and a rib eye, I hope it was a mistake in the kitchen, not a normal thing. Very disappointed
Ordered the $65 ribeye steak. Very disappointing. Too much membrane, overdone, and not tender. I will not be going back. Overrated and over expensive.
First time trying The Rock Steak House and I was very disappointed, I had the Sirloin cooked medium and it wasn t just rare it was raw. Had the mash potatoes as a side, they were like someone dump a jar of black pepper on them and the steak sauce was a duller version of A1 steak sauce. The Staff was very nice and friendly! But the food needs major improvement. We were with a group and everyone had something a little different and had the same concerns.
Everything was dandy
We headed back to the Rock for our 12 years of dating Anniversary and everything was wonderful. My husband and I loved everything. They even added a little special touch to our dessert. Atmosphere, service, food.. It all was fantastic. Cant wait to come back again!
My wife decided it s been too long since our last visit, so we went to celebrate her birthday tonight. We both had the Canadian wagyu steaks medium rare, garlic mashed potatoes, carrots, broccoli and onions for our main course. She enjoyed the Apple Cobbler and I had the creme brûlée for dessert. We thoroughly enjoyed our time, our server was excellent with a great sense of humour to boot! The people, the food and the presentation were top shelf, definitely looking forward to the charm! Dietary restrictions: The young lady who took our reservation specifically asked if we required any special food preparation, very conscientious of her guests. Parking: Ample space and on grade for anyone with mobility issues.
Amazing night out. Staff were super nice and made sure we were enjoying our experience. Steaks were delicious, and I highly recommend the peppercorn sauce. Overall, we had a great experience. Parking: Limited parking on a busy night. You may need to park at the nearby hotel.
Food was ok. Service good. Beautiful building with an excellent atmosphere. Not my favorite steak. Other parts of the meal were good. Menu looks great and I would love to try some other entrees. Food
Really enjoyed our visit. Food, service, and atmosphere were all first rate. We will definitely return.
Excellent meal
Weird decor for a restaurant that seems to want to be a classic steakhouse, at least for where we were seated. Food was good but expensive.
First experience at the restaurant, and came with a group of 16. Was seated upstairs in a beautiful large area. Great place for a large group. The service was pretty good over all. Unfortunately the wait for our food was very long, and when we receive our steaks they were cold, and the fries were cold. I ordered and fillet, and under any other circumstance are blown away but the quality and tenderness of such an expensive cut. Unfortunately this was not the case here. The steak was tough and over cooked, and very bland. I dont mind when a meal is subpar and I very rarely will post a negative review, however when you sell the most expensive steak in town, it should be close to the best, however on this night, it wasnt even in the same neighborhood as many other restaurants in town. Unfortunately, many of the others at our table had similar experiences. On a much higher note, dessert were wonderful and a breath of fresh air. Im all about redemption and Im looking forward to the right time to give it another try. Im hoping and I believe this was a 1 in a thousand case that they were just having a bad night and will be much better the next time, as most reviews suggest. At least thats what Im banking on.
Great steak place with a creative menu! Staff and service were outstanding!
Pricey but delicious. They make a great steak. Fast and friendly service with a relaxing atmosphere.
Weve been here many times and the food is always amazing! I also love the cocktail menu and how descriptive the menus are. Also the desserts are amazing! I highly recommend the flourless chocolate torte!
Today we ordered burgers and they were amazing! Service also good. Recommend this place
The best restaurant experience in St. Johns. The food and service easily beats out the keg, fish exchange and other high-end restaurants in town. The food we have here is always amazing, the servers are extremely friendly, outgoing and very helpful. There is not much better you can get in town than The Rock Steakhouse. Also I hope they decide to put the Rosé sangria on the summer list because it was delicious! Thank you so much to our amazing server Brittany who was the absolute best. She went far above and beyond for us and was one of the best servers we have had in Canada, let alone Newfoundland. She made the dining experience one that we will share about & recommend for some time to come. We will be back again & again. ETA: went back for supper - amazing. The food was to die for, drinks were awesome. Ocean 75 was and the bone marrow crostini was an amazing first time trying. Local salmon was delish.
The steak was tough as a shoe.
We dined here three times. The first time was OK but, the place was new so we brushed off the small issues as part of start up bugs. The subsequent two visits were awful! And, the arrogance of management when we complained was nothing short of offensive.
My first time there and I definitely will be back! Everything was fantastic!
We arrived just before closing, waiting to catch a very early flight the next morning. Needed a glass of wine to unwind and grab a light bite. Being close to closing, the place was winding down. Grabbed a spot at the bar and our server/bartender (Brittany or maybe Britney) was so friendly and inviting as were all the other staff. Conversation flowed with the staff and we shared stories of where we re from and had quite a few laughs. Even though we had a very early flight, we just wanted to hang out and with this very personable staff for as long as they would have us. We never felt rushed at all, given the late hour of our arrival. The atmosphere was modern, yet warm and cozy, our truffle fries and wine were delicious. But the service just took the cake. Overall, it was a great ending to our stay here on the Rock. Next time we come back we ll be sure to check out many more items on the menu. Thank you Brittany, (I hope I got the spelling right)for the many smiles and terrific service!
Had wings and a Caesar that was beyond even eating, don t know how there still in business,
Last meal in NL before we flew home Nice restaurant! Love the inside ambience like The Keg but nicer. Food was amazing, as usual I ordered fish. I could get enough while being in NL!! Had the pan seared Cod delicious!! Hubby and cousin had the burgers and they were really good! Good selection of drinks and wine! Lovely server and attentive ! I would highly recommend this restaurant!!
Great experience...table of 25 Food was served quickly and hot to all ....thanks again for a fantastic experience! Dietary restrictions: Keto friendly
Food was absolutely amazing, thank you for the excellent service Tamara Pye!
Food was great, service was even better, Tamara was a fantastic server. 10 out of 10 would recommend. Love, love, love it.
Amazing food, Tamara was an awesome server...very friendly, knowledgeable, so very pleasant...I look forward to her service in the future.
Amazing food and even better service! Our waiter Tamara was super friendly, attentive and gave great service
Tamara was an outstanding waitress and so friendly! Wonderful place and we ll definitely be coming again! Best steak in town hands down.
Great food, best burger in town. Tamara is an excellent waitress. Everything she recombine was perfect
Service was great and Tamara was an excellent server to myself and my family. The food was incredible and we had a great experience! Will be back!
In for a family meal this evening and Tamara was wonderful. Would absolutely recommend a meal here. Fine experience and cant wait to come back!
Tamara was the absolute best
Had such a lovely meal, and even better service thanks to Tamara. The food was immaculate, served promptly and piping hot. Tamara checked on me often and was so friendly. I cannot wait to come back for more truffle fries!
Tamara was so friendly to us!! Made us feel at home!
Went last minute for a birthday supper and there was no waiting for a table on a Saturday night (did call to confirm there was any wait for a seating) The staff was amazing, friendly, and always checking in to see if we needed anything. The food and drinks were great. Tamara was hands down the best server and at the meal, we got a birthday card with a free appetizer coupon and Tamara even gave my friend the same coupon. Will definitely be going back again. Thanks Tamara!!
Great food and service from Tamara!
Tamara was excellent food was great!
Had never been since un NL for a year, and looked forward to trying it. Went during Advertised Happy Hour and the Host told us they didnt do Happy Hour on Friday afternoons. I showed him the Website Ad which Did NOT mention Fridays were excluded. We didnt stick around and drove 20 minutes back to CBS instead. Very Poor First and Last Impression.
Ive been here 3 or 4 times with my wife and each time our meal has been outstanding. I love the fish soup. Highly recommended.
I paid 65.00 for ribeye and a pile of disgusting mush they called garlic mash ...the steak was tough and the potatoes were not even edible....never again will I spend my hard earned money at this place ..
My extended family and I celebrated my graduation here. The staff were amazing. They made every accomodation for my elderly relatives without a problem. The food was great as well. I could not have asked for a more relaxing evening. Thank you all very much.
Britt was absolutely phenomenal, made our meal so personable. Went celebrating a ten year anniversary, and left with a full belly, great laughs, and a beautiful card. Will definitely be returning. Thank you for such a wonderful experience
We had a lovely server, and there is a good atmosphere. Unfortunately, we found the food subpar. We ordered the bone marrow crostini and there was no marrow to be found. Just onions. The crostini was also just the same complimentary bread they give you, but toasted (burnt in our case). The steak (we got Prime Strip) was good quality, and mine was cooked to a perfect medium rare. However the other steak we got was almost well done (although we asked for medium rare). The scallops were delish! The cheesecake was great. The seasonal crumble was more like seeds and oats over some apple. Cocktails were as expected. We were hoping to love it, but it was an unfortunate experience, especially for the 300 dollar bill.
First time at the Rock Steakhouse. The staff were very attentive and great. Overall, the food was on point except for the starter dish, French Onion Soup for 4 of the 6 of us didnt impress. The soup base had an off flavor that wasnt indicative of most French Onion Soups we all have had from various sources previously. However The Steak which most of had various cuts and cook were all on point. Very nice. The cheeze cake Desserts were large and delicious. Overall a good meal. The atmosphere was ok.
The food was delicious!! We had steak and it was cooked to perfection. The sticky toffee pudding was to die for!! Food : 5/5
High prices for low-quality food. They had a steak bite appetizer that was overcooked enough to give your jaw a great workout. The striploin steak came out more medium than medium-rare, though it was tasty regardless. Im fairly certain that the French fries, which are approximately $15 a serving, came fresh out of a freezer bag. The French onion soup was just...off. The croutons in it had an odd texture and there was something in the broth that just did not work. That being said, the servers were excellent and the service was quck. The women who served us were friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. All in all, for over $100 for two people, one would hope for good food AND good service.
We had a party of 6 and ordered a combination of drinks, wine, appetizers and entrees. The service was good and all of the food and drinks were very tasty. Some of the dishes were a bit on the saltier side but it wasnt so bad that they werent eaten. I could definitely see going here for drinks and appetizers, especially if you were staying at one of the nearby airport hotels. Total price including tip came in at over $500, but again this was for 6 people and included alcohol.
Hardworking bartender, Brittany, served food and drinks. Friendly and helpful.
The food was of good quality and quantity. Portions were a nice size and tasted good as well. I ordered the tossed salad which was 15$ and they brought me a Caesar which was 17$. I sent the one back but was charged for the wrong one but I did not mention the difference - the tossed salad with goat cheese & balsamic dressing was delicious. I asked for a gf version of the seafood pasta which they did provide although it was under cooked and I cook gf pasta myself; the seafood part was amazing with Three huge shrimp, scallops and mussels. My husband ordered fish and chips which were excellent.
Wonderful experience, knowledgable staff - informative about the food you are going to eat, where its from and how its graded. A+++ .. not a hard decision to eat here. Amazing.
The staff are very friendly. We came back a second time and they remembered us. The food was very tasty. Janice and Jill were amazing, request them as your server if possible.
The service by Tamara was excellent! The food was wonderful. Will visit again!
Tamara was great!!
If I could give this place less than one star I would. We went for a rehearsal dinner last night and the experience here ruined our night. We had an 8pm reservation and did not leave until 11pm. It took over an hour before our servers even asked if we were ready to order. Half of our party left because the wait for food was too long. One of my friends ordered a glass of champagne and it took 1 hour and 45 minutes to come and when it did it was brought to the wrong person. Appetizers came an hour before mains. Overall it was a horrible experience and when we asked to speak with the manager she blamed our party instead of offering an apology. I am not asking for any compensation just disappointed a special night as part of the wedding was ruined.
Pricy but so good!
Overpriced. Potatoes were cold.. pan bread was awful sliced bread.
Great food, amazing service, would recommend for a date night out in St. Johns
What a treat! A friend recommend this place to me. It was amazing the BLUE dot Triple AAA beef from Albany PEI was delicious. They sear it at 1700 degrees to lock in the flavor. It was cooked rare just the way I liked it. Janice our server was so nice and helpful. This is a must try. Enjoy.
Such a lovely place. Staff are amazing, food is delicious. Prices are reasonable! Highly recommended.
Britney s exceptional customer service ensures that I ll be a returning customer. Great place to have an excellent dinner and have a great time !!
Best in St. Johns. Its pricey, but well worth it for a nice steak or burger .
Im not one to complain but I ordered takeout for 3 items from here tonight I was very disappointed. The servings were terrible, scallops were like they were leftovers and just tossed in the box. The mac and cheese was almost the same sering was was maybe a kids portion. But one thumbs up was theTruffle fries which was pretty good seving and tasted good.
We just ate here. We were in a rush, and the waitress took our order immediately. The food took a very long time to come. Meal 1: Caesar salad smothered in roasted capers! Meal 2: Tiny piece of roast chicken Meal 3. Steak salad. Steak was cold, salad limp and full of shredded cheese. Bill $103 plus tip. Worst meal we ve had in our 10 day stay in Nfld We feel we should get a refund.
I called in my order from the cab and they had it ready for me when I arrived and then Grant the manager offered me a ride to the airport because I was running late for my flight. The ribeye was one of the best Ive ever had. I cannot recommend this fine establishment enough. Thank you!
Great service, atmosphere, and meals were delish. Portions were on the smaller side for price & I would have loved homemade fries (they were store bought).
Absolutely delicious meal, wonderful service! And very comfortable atmosphere.
My meal was excellent and the service was fast and friendly.
Caroline was fantastic! Great service! Wheelchair accessibility: Perfect! Food : 5/5 |
First visit to this restaurant and it definitely wont be the last. Great food.
Absolutely delicious food and fantastic service.
Great dinner, good price for quality food Great service. Delicious chocolate cake Food : 5/5
Best burger I ve had while dining out in forever. Delicious cocktail. Wonderful and friendly service. Happy I stopped in !
$85 bill for ribeye w. fancy potato and veg. Ordered medium rare and steak came out medium well. Was hungry, so ate the sides while waiting a really long time for the re-cooked steak. Ended up taking it home. Servers were friendly, but overall, service really lacked attention to detail. My server seemed busy, so I had to flag down passing staff for water, cutlery, overdone steak and takeout container...basically everything I needed! Neither food nor service was near good enough for the prices being charged. Very disappointing.
We celebrated a Birthday last night here, with the Best, friendly, Service from our waitress Britney, we loved her! The food was off the charts amazing, that s some Chef you have on board there! The kind, friendly staff never hesitated to accommodate our family near a fireplace setting, opening a room for us, so kind of you all. We be back! Beautiful atmosphere & place. Way to go The Rock Steakhouse Staff and Team!
Absolutely one of the best meals we ve ever had. We went there for a date night and our server Michelle treated us like she knew us for years.
Very good service and tasty food. The steak was done to perfection.
Amazing place great amazing food friendly staff just an overall great experience
Had the 12oz new york striplion, and my son had the Mac and cheese, absolutely loved it,will definitely be back
I ve never had a bad meal! The Ribeye steak and Seafood Tagliatelle are my go to entrees, highly recommend!
I ordered a 12oz NY striploin. The meat was great, but the sides didnt really have any taste. the sauce that comes with it tastes like a good homemade ketchup. I believe there is room to work on the sauce and sides.
Had a rib steak , cooked Chicago style, rare . I have eaten steak in hundreds of cities around the world. This was the best I ever had. . Service was impeccable. Next time I m back in St. John s I know where I will have a steak.
Top quality all around. Best steaks in the city, and the burgers that just melt in your mouth are also an excellent choice. Servers are great, genuine hospitality with a unique and relaxing atmosphere. I would recommend to anyone looking for a great steakhouse experience. Food
Excellent service, excellent food!! We will come back!
Great service and amazing food! Try the artichoke dip!
Our server, Brittany, was fantastic! Really sweet and enthusiastic, also very knowledgeable of the menu. The atmosphere was really nice and layout of the restaurant was very well done. The appetizer was underwhelming, as all that came in it were a pile of mushrooms, onions and asparagus (in a really tasty mushroom cream sauce!) with two average scallops and two great jumbo shrimp. The Japanese A5 wagyu (BMS 12) on the other hand... speechless. Yes it is a jaw dropping price for a 10 oz piece of steak, but it is the holy grail of steaks for a reason. Cooked to perfection, beautiful crust, and melted in my mouth like butter. It is definitely justifiable of the high price. The food also all came out super fast, like we had finished our mains just over an hour of being seated. Highly recommend!!
Top tier sreakhouse, but god damn!... Have. The. Mac and. Cheese...
Its a limited menu, but they make it well and the service was perfect. Its not cheap, but worth it.
Sub par food and atmosphere for the price. Avoid fish dishes. Maybe the steak is better?
Parking: Lots of parking
Had supper with my cousins this evening. Awesome steak, awesome service from all the staff that serviced us. Will be back. Cheers
Sliders are awesome. Juicy.
I ve eaten here twice now. Both meals were well done and very tasty. Would recommend, but note that the place is a bit pricey.
Went with two ladies in their mid seventies. One asked for a senior or kids menu. (Anybody could see they were petites, not big eaters). When he was asked, the manager sharply said there wasnt any. Tone was abrupt, not good P.R. We ordered a dish of sliders (2), tasty but it came with nothing else, fish and chips, very average, and a seafood dish consisting of 2 shrimps and 2 scallops, good but again nothing else apart from a mushroom sauce. Very pricey for what we got. Even though we had made a booking, table wasnt ready, so when we sat down the table was still very wet, so much so menus were sticking to the table. We had to use our napkins to dry the table! No coasters for glasses, etc. Our young waiter, not at faut, was sweet and slightly embarrassed. He did his best at small talk, yes we tipped him!, but needless to say, we wont go back. This industry should acknowledge our growing aging population with a smaller appetite, but with a desire to dine out and therefore the restaurants should accommodate their needs. This was, is, the Rocks loss, as both ladies have a sweet tooth but decided to pass on dessert and tea/coffee. There are in town other places smarter than the Rock and this is where my friends will enjoy a meal and happily spend their money with their family and friends. So will I.
Great service and man What a steak. Must eat
This was one of the worst dining experiences I have had in a long time! So disappointing! The Parmesan frites were frozen French fries with some poor quality Parmesan on top. Chicken was black on the surface and dried out inside. Pan-fried cod at $32.00 a serving was less than an inch thick. The baked potatoes had been cooked earlier in the day and reheated. I would never have eaten them at home, much less served them to guests. The only redeeming thing about this experience was that the server was friendly and apologetic when I told her the potatoes and chicken were subpar. Won t be eating here again.
Parking: Plenty...... Close to entrance.
Steak cooked perfectly! Friendly attentive service. Definitely recommend.
Seafood pasta was very good, could have left out the spicy sausage. Servers were great.
Staff was very friendly and the quality of food was top notch. Prices are a little steep but a great spot to dine in during a special occasion with friends, coworkers, or family.
Enjoyed it... great service good food.
It s a nice steakhouse.
Great food! Great atmosphere!
I would leave zero stars but sadly that s not an option. The food was okay, however, my issue is with the manager. After finishing our meal he asked if he would, lose his hand, if he took our plates away. We calmly explained how inappropriate that comment was coming from staff to a paying customer and he replied by saying, if that s the worst thing you hear today, you re doing pretty good, and proceeded to shout as us, making a scene in front of the entire restaurant. We even had to ask him to step away from our table, which he did not oblige. Sadly, I will never step foot in this restaurant again because of the sheer disrespect I encountered. As I ve gathered from other reviews, you re better steering clear of this place if you expect any level of satisfactory customer service.
I feel kinda crazy saying that this was my best food experience in St. Johns. I mean who would have expected that a hotel/airport restaurant can be this good. Usually they arent much to write home about. Its a steak house so I decided to have some steak in a hamburger form. Pretty huge and delicious. Service was very attentive and friendly. Make sure to work some overtime before coming here because it can get a bit pricey if you decide to order a prime meaty treat.
Food and the staff were excellent, wish I could eat there four or five times a week
Excellent service and top quality food. I would definitely recommend!
Great food, and atmosphere. Definitely try the strawberry Bellini!!!
A little expensive but but the service was excellent I would recommend
This is not a great spot!! Very open concept no booth options in the larger dining area! Served us garlic bread that was very dry! The lightning and color was not great for a restaurant thats supposed to be high-end!! The French onion soup was very salty and was more like onion gray with very little onions in the soup! I had the Rib eye steak, medium rear and it came out medium well that was not even tender!! Im changing my review on the service, they didnt even come and ask how the food was and didnt even ask if we wanted another drink!! This was very disappointing and I would not recommend this place too anyone, waste of money!
Ribeye was cooked to perfection. All appetizers and desert were also fantastic.
Great and close to the Airport. Very cozy
