Welcome to Gingergrass Inspired Homestyle Cooking With Fresh, Healthy Ingredients
We had the chicken satay skewers and vegetarian spring rolls for appetizer. My main was a chicken pad Thai, my partner had a red curry shrimp combo. The food is pretty good, but the protein portions were pitiful. I had very little chicken in my pad Thai, and there were a grand total of THREE shrimp in my partners main dish. For the $100 dollar bill, we were pretty hungry again an hour and a half later. Service was prompt and friendly at least and the candies you can take when you leave are yummy haha
recently had the pleasure of dining at Gingergrass, and I can confidently say it was the best Thai food I've ever had! From the moment I walked in, the staff made me feel truly welcome, treating me like family. Their warmth and attentiveness added so much to the experience. The food was absolutely incredible. Each dish was bursting with authentic flavors and beautifully presented. I especially loved the Peanut Curry Combo, which was a perfect balance of spices and freshness. You can tell that every ingredient is carefully selected and prepared with love. If only I didn’t live halfway across the country! I would be here every week indulging in their delicious offerings. If you’re in the area, don’t miss out on this gem. I can’t wait for my next visit!
Went here with my Vietnamese friend and the service was pretty bad. They forgot our appetizers. They didn't even ask if we were doing okay ONCE. The man, he was so nice to everyone except us. He helped other tables but not us, my friend was so thirsty and her cup was all empty but the man just refill others but not hers. I don't understand why they did it to EVERYONE ELSE but us 🤔 It was very odd. The food was good though but everything else was interesting. My friend felt rejected by her own race. She's ASIAN AND WENT TO AN ASIAN RESTAURANT BUT DIDNT EVEN GET GOOD SERVICE. It was weird.
Stopped by this wonderful eatery on a trip to St Johns and was not disappointed. While I had Pad Thai instead of Vietnamese, it was just what I was craving. I’m picky when it comes to my Pad Thai and I loved it. My partner got the Vermicelli and loved it as well. Can’t wait to go back and have some vermicelli myself!
Honest I almost forgot about this place until I found this photo. So there you have it, the food was very forgettable. Small portion and tastes not very authentic. However, the price was affordable.
Good location and lovely service. However the food is not authentic, rather bland , not much better than Thai express. As a person who lived in Thailand, I cannot understand why they poached the meat then add into the curry sauce for 2 mins and call it a curry. Simply follow the recipe from the curry sauce jar, cook the meat with coconut milk for a while till taste combined. Would not recommend it.
The success of Gingergrass relies on the population of St. John’s not knowing any better. If you’ve had any Thai/Vietnamese food from a half-decent restaurant in a city you’ll be disappointed. Save your money and go elsewhere.
My first time in ten years finding a Thai/Vietnamese restaurant on this island that was above and beyond what I expected. The service was amazing, delivery of our order was perfect and had the crab Rangoon as a take home dish. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking some great food!!!
Room is bright, clean and cheerful. Food was fast and fresh. Servers were very attentive. Dietary restrictions: Server asked if we were gluten sensitive or vegan. The menu had many options for either .
Very slow, they mixed up the order. Small portions like a 20 bucks lunch.
Gingergrass has really great and tasty food, but the outstanding part of the experience was the amazing service performed by their great server Faiza. She is the sweetest, friendliest, and most knowledgeable server I have ever had in the entire city. I HIGHLY recommend this place for her alone, as well as the amazing food that I know you will love
One of my favourite places to go in St. John s, good food and so friendly staff. Only wish they had more tables couple times I couldn t get in when I wanted lol
Peanut Curry Combo (made Thai spicy) with Crab Rangoon is easily on of the best dishes in St. John s
Love the Red Curry combo! Crab Rangoon is the best in the city by far!
Cozy restaurant. Food was amazing. Friendly, timely service . Cant wait to go back! Spring rolls are otherworldly
Great food! Always consistent! Service is exceptional too!
Love this place. My go to in St. Johns for everything Vietnamese.
Wonderful place for delicious authentic cuisine. Vegetarian options: Very accomodating Food : 4/5 |
Spicy beef was so flavorful and the right amount of heat. Crab rangoon was delicious. Dietary restrictions: Good for gluten free needs.
Id come here again and again. They have great options for different food restrictions. The staff is friendly and considerate.
I placed an online order and it was ready on time. It was an incredible amount of food for an amazing price! We ordered the Northern Thai curry with chicken (Thai hot/spicy), peanut curry with chicken (hot/spicy), crab Rangoon, cucumber salad, and jasmine rice. Everything was delicious! We cant wait to eat here again. Dietary restrictions: Great selection of vegan and gluten-free options.
Majestic place and exquisite food!
My girlfriend and I absolutely love this spot. It is our favorite restaurant in town.
Great food, good service. Portions were fine as well! Definitely recommended Food : 5/5
Delicious meals, pretty much no matter what you choose. I usually get the peanut curry meal, which is my favourite. Theres a gluten free menu with plenty of options. Its usually a pretty busy spot, so make a reservation before you go. Its a nice location, with great staff. And, theres a swing at one of the tables. I sat on it, and it was more of a novelty than actually comfortable, but it is a fun part of the restaurant. Great for families, or for a nice date. Highly recommend this place. Vegetarian options: Great selection of vegetarian options Dietary restrictions: There is a whole menu dedicated to gluten free options Parking: Parking right in front, and a paid parking garage nearby Kid-friendliness: Great for kids
Very good! In our travel of the island we found it difficult to find non-greasy pub food. The good here was very refreshing.
Had a takeout order .The Pad Thai was super sweet and over sauced . Veg included broccoli ( I have never had this in Pad Thai before),grated carrott and a couple of slices of green pepper and the tofu . Spring rolls very greasy. Would not reccommend, does not seem authentic to me. It was an Easy process to order online and ready on time.
The peanut curry is excellent, but doesnt come with rice, as it should, with that price tag. The pad Thai was dreadful. It has broccoli and green peppers and was a lukewarm mess. The slight girl behind the counter with the dark brown bob haircut may want to rethink her choice of job - she has zero personality and is not cut out for the service industry whatsoever. Ill return for takeout as the curry os great, but never for Pad Thai again. Hope the offer up some training to staff on how to be friendly, cordial and polite, as this chick is anything but that. :/
Awesome Pho !!
Good place to try Thai food!!! Highly recommend satay chicken and beef pho
Came in without a reservation- definitely worth the wait! Beef pho was delicious!
Food and service was really good .
Very good Vietnamese food, really liked it!
How often do you go out for a meal and EVERYONE raves about every dish?!!!
Food was delicious and well priced. Staff is super friendly. Only issue we found was protein (chicken, shrimp) portions were small in comparison to other Thai restaurants we ve gone to.
Overall love this place. I didnt like the rice noodles tonight being bigger usuallt they have the thin ones.
The food was lovely. We went there for our anniversary dinner and it was the best decision. Will definitely visit again.
Great service and a fresh and clean environment, but my food lacked the flavours expected in Thai food. Maybe I was simply unlucky with my dinner choice.
While the food at this restaurant was undeniably tasty, my dining experience was hindered by disappointingly slow service. Despite the delicious flavors, the prolonged wait times for both ordering and receiving the dishes affected the overall enjoyment. The staffs friendliness couldnt fully compensate for the delay. If you can overlook the leisurely service, the culinary offerings are worth a try, but be prepared for a patient dining experience.
Fabulous food and service. Best appetizers ever!!! Highly recommended the crab appetizer!
Awesome food, it was fresh and delicious. Great staff and chef.
99% of my experiences are all positive fabulous food & service, very friendly, efficient staff.. But I experienced a little disappointment tonight. I reserved the day before for 7PM today. Because of the weather we decided to cancel. When I called to cancel, a staff member said it was already canceled.by someone, surprise surprise! . My point is, if I had driven all the way in this weather from the west end and was told my table is gone, there would have been hell to pay. My table was either cancelled accidentally or given to a friend Poor business practices
great food, great service!
The pad thai is sooooo good. But you dont get much for the price. I could have ate two orders
Best dining experience ever! The food was absolutely amazing and our server gave phenomenal recommendations. Not only that but we accidentally overstayed past close and the server just kept refilling our drinks and did not make us feel unwelcome at all. Definitely will be back! Wish we got the servers name!
Great food and ambience!
Really great food and good service at a reasonable price. I recommend making a reservation a few days before because it can be busy.
Great food! Fast and friendly.
Good authentic food. Good value. Service is a little streched...
I have eaten there several times for lunch and once for dinner. Excellent service, affordable prices and superb food every time! My favourite restaurant in town!
I have been dreaming about their vermicelli noodle bowl with spring rolls ever since they left Halifax. Im so happy to report that the dish is as delicious as I remember it! I cant wait to make it a regular dining occurrence every time I visit St Johns.
Really enjoyed the Northern Thai and Peanut curries. Will be back again.
These idiots don t answer their phone during regular business hours
This is one of the best restaurants you can tryin St. John s. The food is very fresh and tasty. Nice and cozy restaurant with positive vibe. I ordered B2 which is Basil beef and it was really good.
Went to this place for my wife s birthday. The location is very modern and newly-renovated with a wheelchair access ramp. There s plenty of seating inside, and the decor is very fresh, modern, and undeniably Thai! We we t on a Saturday night during St. Patty s day weekend, so the place was packed! Despite this, we only waited four minutes for our table, and then we were seated. Appetizers came out quickly; within 10-15 minutes of ordering, and mains followed soon after (10 mins after the mains). The northern Thai egg noodles were very tasty, and we ordered them hoping they d be similar to Khao Soi (they are similar, but not identical). The basil chicken was delicious! The veggies were tender and succulent, with the perfect balance of crunch and heat. The chicken was also very tasty, however there were some pieces that tasted a bit rubbery as if they had been boiled. The strange part - the chicken did t come with any rice, so I had yo order it separately on the side. The fried banana with ice cream was delicious; not overly sweet or otherwise over the top, but instead the perfect blend of umami, sweetness, and savoury. Some pro-tips; make a reservation beforehand, and irder rice as a side if your dish doesn t come with any!
Only Vietnamese option In town. Thankfully its good. I always have the pork noodle bowls and never disappoints. Shrimp spring rolls (condom wraps) are small and never wrapped properly, Ive given them a few tries but wont get them again. Too bad as they are my favorite Vietnamese item to eat.
My first visit, and definitely not my last! The food was fresh and DELICIOUS, and its a really small and cute and quaint and romantic. I was on a date, and the vibe was exactly perfect. I had the Chicken Pad Thai and it was so good. Seriously, so good. I cleaned my plate. Vegetarian options: Fresh veggies and stir fry-like options available Parking: The parking situation is tight, but there are some spots right in front of the place. Street parking only nearby. Kid-friendliness: This is definitely a note adult place, but the food is good enough for everyone, and there is something for anyone! Wheelchair accessibility: There is a ramp immediately inside the door up to a one level, one room setting.
Gingergrass is by far the best Thai/Vietnamese restaurant I ve ever eaten at. The owners are so nice and the food is always top quality. My only complaint, they left Halifax and moved to St John s! I need to get me to NFLD! Highly recommend if you ve not tried them yet. 15/10 Best anywhere.
Excellent service with great recommendations. Came in for the pho which is delicious and ended trying the coconut soup with shrimp as well. Very very good. The place is fresh up to date and relaxing Check them out.
I tried the Pad-Thai a la carte then the Basil-Thai... Delicious, its close to the best Thai thing Ive eaten. The staff is local (St-Johns) and very, very kind and we are served so quickly that we forget that it closes at 8 p.m. Thank you congratulations keep going!!!
Delicious food. Dishes are small. If youre hungry, my suggestion is order two.
Excellent!
The best restaurant in St.John s , super clean, very friendly staff, delicious food, amazing!!!!
We had an absolutely lovely dinner. In addition to the food being excellent (the pad Thai was a favourite!), the service was even better. Our server Nicole was phenomenal and went above and beyond to accommodate allergies for one of our party. Would come back for sure!
Wonderful food
Nice Thai food and service
Loved their food.
My husband and I came here for lunch, thinking we would be in and out in under an hour (his allotted break time). When we arrived, there were 3 tables seated and was not very busy. It did pick up to a full house during our stay. It took 45 minutes from when we sat down to when we had food on our table, which didnt leave much time to eat. There was only one server, so I do give some grace, but it did take 20 minutes for our order to be taken. In terms of the food, the pho was lacking. Coming from Calgary and having to traveled to Vietnam, weve had many pho meals over the years. The bean sprouts were at the bottom of the bowl (instead of served on the side) so they were soggy and no crunch. The broth flavor was not on par, and the serving size was quite small for the price point. We would not return for the pho. The spring rolls were quite good. $8.00/2 was a little pricey, but they are on the thicker side so I can understand the reasoning. The Chicken Pad Thai was decent. The noodles were short (cut maybe?) which was odd to me, but the flavors were there along with a decent amount of spice. Overall, we would consider returning to try the curry or other items to see if there is a meal we would crave enough to go back for. Will update this review with other thoughts.
All food ordered and service was great. Vegetarian options: Dedicated menu. Food : 5/5 |
Food is delicious! Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian and gluten free options!
I wanted everything on their menu.
Stopped in to grab some takeout and was greeted by the nicest women. My order was quick. I got the lunch vermicelli and it was one of the best meals I ve had in a long time! My kids loved it too! If we lived here I d be back very often!
We had a very negative experience at this place. We arrived on hour before the published close time and the ladies at the front exchanged glances before telling us they were about to close, when we asked about the hours they most confident one told us: yes, but they only had one chef and she wants to leave early. So they could make us food to-go but couldn t sit us. We were just too tired and hungry to argue and just placed an order. Even as we collected our food, a fresh tray/ order was going out to a table- so how come they could dine in? Now the food: When ordering, I asked that the green curry be made mild because it was for my toddler. The lady said that dish can only be made spicier, not less, so if I wanted mild, I d have to get pineapple curry. Fair enough, I ll have a mild pineapple curry with a large rice. We get home, and the curry is extra spicy , even for the adults who can handle quite a lot of spice. And our large rice order is just about a quarter cup of rice stuck in a flat mound at the base of the container. Mind you, we sat at the reception for about 20min watching them serve tables and saw several rice portions, so our large order should have at least looked the same as all the rice dishes we saw served. As for the pho , it really isn t. Just a leathery strip of overcooked beef floating in pale brown water. Feeding my child yogurt and going to bed hungry. Kid-friendliness: Not
Difficult to do better! Really, really excellent Smile, fast, incredible value for money
Fresh, delicious, inexpensive.
We chose this place based on menu and Google reviews rating. The website looks sophisticated so we stupidly guessed the food might be at a higher standard. Worst pad thai Ive ever eaten, and Ive eaten at some pretty hole-in-the wall Thai restaurants in my time. The noodles were mush and the shrimp overcooked. Very disappointing. Staff were polite and helpful.
Delicious food, very clean, and friendly service. We ve eaten there at least 5 times and the food has been consistently good. Would highly recommend.
Came her for the the beef pho and you should know its not authentic. Ive had many bowls of pho including in Vietnam and this isnt pho. Its a beef broth noodle and was quite flavourless at that. Im assuming they cant get certain ingredients as I didnt see any Vietnamese basil or star anise which are essentials in a pho broth. The really should call it something else as its nowhere close to what pho tastes like. Hats off to the server Hayley who was alone and had 10 tables and didnt have a nervous breakdown.
We went to this restaurant as it came with really good reviews and it seemed to meet a variety of diets within our group. Firstly, the service was really great and the staff were all helpful and knowledgable. The issue was for those of us who were vegetarian, much of the food had some sort of fish/oyster sauce in it. A plus was they offered a tofu option for many of their meals, so it appeared like they could be vegetarian, but they were not. Even the vegetable spring rolls came with a dipping sauce that had fish in it. They did offer a smaller vegan menu. The meal portions were also on the smaller side.
Kayley was a wonderful servers so nice and on the ball ! The food was delicious and the service was perfect!!! Super thoughtful server and tasty food!!
Poor service!! Bad experience
Excellent food, great service.
AMAZING food !!! Very tasty, full of flavour. Interesting menu, with a lot of options. The price are good too. Wonderful place :) Vegetarian options: Vegetables, tofu, vegan Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free
Very Authentic Thai food and their Pho is really good! I got the beef Pho with a side of peanut sauce and it was so worth the extra cost.. yum!
Delightful Thai food, spicy but not too hot. I like the occasional Vietnamese twist that they have as well. Curry was a perfect consistency with perfect veggies and perfect meat - not too tough nor overcooked. Im using perfect a lot because this is a five star review. I dont give these out every day. Staff was friendly and informative. I will be back. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian friendly for sure though I dont have preferences that way. It was all over the menu and the server mentioned it to another table.
Parking: No street parking last time we were there but there is a parking garage a 60 sec walk away that cost us $3.00. Food
Went for lunch. Some great options for family style so you can try more of the menu. Lovely decor, comfortable seating, and great service.
thoroughly ok food. pho was interesting - no red onion, no beansprouts, lime, and Thai basil on the side. pad Thai was alright, portion on the small side. not great but not bad.
Excellent customer service and delicious food! Vegan menu hit the spot. The swinging bench was a special addition to our dining experience.
Very tasty northern Thai curry... And my lady had the basil beef... Super happy with both. And they have a swing bench. Thats where I sat. Good vibes.
I already visited here three times and loved their food so much. I will definitely recommend this place.
Food was good . Service was wonderful . Will be back.
Always great service and excellent food!
The best and freshest tasting food around. I highly recommend.
My worst experience I ever have encounter in all my life and world travel. This is not about the staff, but the manager. A Chinese belive he is in China and can treat people like the Chinese is treating the Uyghurs by puting them in concentration camps. Something is really wrong with his attitude and customer service. 12 of February 2022 at 6.40pm my wife order a meal for us by telephone. 1 GF Northern Thai Curry, ( mild) and 1 Cashew Chicken with a large rice. When I got home I was surprised and disappointed we had the wrong order, one Hot Northern Thai and one Pinapple Curry. I called the restaurant to speak to the manager and explain we have got wrong food. The manager was not there but the staff would tell him what happened and have him call us. We did not hear back from the manager and after the weekend we called again and the same thing happened. The manager did not called back. We called again later in the week and the same thing happened. We did not got a call from the manager. So after the weekend again Tuesday 22 of February around 6.00 pm I drove down to the restaurant to talk to him. I brought with me all the food. The manager was not there but the staff called him and he came in aoround 10 min later. I explained to him all again and presented the bill where the order was written down. I told him my complaint again that my order was Chicken and Cashew and my wifes food have to be mild. But hers food was very strong and she could not eat it. I did asked him what kind of customer service he was showing us. HES ANSWER WAS WE COULD NOT TRICK HIM and asked me to leave the restaurant, I refused and he called the police that came around 15-20 min later. I explained my story to the police and they understood my frustration and was agreed that it was a poor customer service and I was in my fully right to complain. But they could not force the manager to pay me back but I could take him to small court.
I shared a meal with a group of 4. Highly recommended due to its value. Fresh food, and great service. It has clean modern decor, would be nice to have a little more relaxed lighting and more comfortable seating and warmer atmosphere. But, would still give it 5 stars for what it offers.
Great experience every time we go! I recommend the Northern Thai Noodle Curry, with crispy egg noodles of course, so good! Staff here are beyond friendly! Edit: Had take out from Gingergrass the other night for the first time, it was so well packed, everything in separate containers so nothing got soggy. We were very impressed!
Delicious! Shared the crab rangoon and shrimp with a friend, and then had the Northern Thai curry. Companions had Pad Thai (said it was delicious) and coconut rice with the lemongrass chicken (also delicious). Service was a bit odd (I got my entree at least 10 minutes before everyone else) but didnt deter. Will return!
Great food and service!!! We were in just before closing and they were happy to accommodate and our server Hayley made some suggestions that we readily accepted and enjoyed thoroughly. I would totally recommend to anyone looking for fresh and tasty thai-viet downtown!
Stopped in randomly with my husband on the way home today since neither of us felt like cooking dinner. Dining room is simple, comfortable and clean, in a great location from downtown but unfortunately the views arent the best, haha. Thats totally out of their control, though, and there was lots of great light coming in to make the place cheery! Staff were very friendly and asked right away if we had any special dietary requirements. We were seated fairly quickly, despite the restaurant being almost full and not having a reservation. Unfortunately once seated with menus it took quite a while to be served again; A table of 4 came in after us and were seated, had orders taken and were given waters/cutlery while we sat waiting for someone to return to our table. When someone did finally come back to take our orders we were given water but no cutlery or napkins. Our appetizer arrived and once finished they came to clear the plate and then realized we had no napkins or cutlery. Perhaps they were short staffed or something but it was a bit disappointing to seem to be missed with a larger table receiving better service across the room. Our food was... food. The Pho seemed overly greasy and the sprouts were at the bottom of the bowl so they lost their snappy freshness in the hot broth; everything just seemed soggy, overcooked and bland. I was hungry, so I ate it, but I remarked to my husband that it seemed almost like the Chef Boyardee version of Pho compared to the various other Vietnamese/Asian restaurants Ive been to.
Amazing study!
Absolutely brilliant food.
Meal was good. The yellow curry was not Thai but ok. Service was great.
We are visiting St Johns and this restaurant caught our eye. We did not have reservations but they managed to get us a table and are we happy they did. Some of the best Thai/Vietnamese food we have ever had. The servers added to the meal with great friendly service. We will be passing through St Johns again in 10 days and plan to return for another meal.
Food was excellent and the staff were incredibly kind
Fast, friendly service, and good food.
not a great food and experience..and quit pricey...
I love Thai food so we always try to find places on our travels with good Thai offerings. The restaurant was really nicely done inside with a swing. We ordered takeout for 8 (all vegetarian) and enjoyed our food very much. The best were the fried rice, the ginger tofu, and pad Thai.
Amazing Thai food! The portions are large, the flavours are excellent, and there are so many good vegetarian options. The tofu cashew dish is 10/10
Basic, functional surroundings and disappointed that no spring rolls of any kind were available and tables for 2 are too tight. Green curry tastes were basic and lacking complexity; service was very competent and efficient.
I honestly did get it when seeing some high ratings here, and some comment of large portions. No, out takeouts portions are very insufficient, with only the 1/4 or 13/ at most pf the box filled. Service is also questionable: I called first and was put on hold for about 8 minutes and I finally decided just going there and placing the order, and then took my order to hotel room, and only found no utensils there. Had to run down the hotel front desk to get some forms and spoons. The taste is, however, not bad, though they just add black pepper to very meal, which is fine for me and likely many others, but not for my wife, whose order I explicitly requested mild. Further some common ones are just not available: I suspected they havent found an easy or feasible way to cook them: lots of what they call fusion restaurants but more like an imitation game but didnt get the full gist of some Asian cooking.
Reserved a table with great hopes. Loved the setting. Very disappointed with food. Didnt expect Thai food to have taste of Indian spices. Felt like we were eating biryani noodles and tofu.
Waitstaff were kind and attentive (although it is a busy location), and the food is some of the best in the city.
The food is so fresh and delicious.
They are always out of something and seems most times you call in for a dish you like they can t make it for the simple fact that they don t have the ingredients to make it. Get on top of it please, how do you run a restaurant and always run out of ingredients?
Attempted to go here last night with my friend. We walked inside and stood there for a few minutes waiting but the servers just kept walking right by us, no eye contact, no acknowledgement, nothing. Not even a hello. We got annoyed by the lack of service and went down the street to another restaurant who was happy to serve us.
I am unhappy with the level integrity of this restaurant. I was charged twice for a meal on October 14 for $29.08. I have come in person and called many times and there is no reply or refund.
Its ok, but if youre used to authentic Thai and Vietnamese food, you wont be thrilled with this spot.
Beautiful food, so flavourful, wont be disappointed! Little heavy-duty on the green pepper for the missus on the pineapple curry chicken...but still delish after she picked alot out.
Food was amazing and our server was really friendly. It was really nice to go to a restaurant that had a separate vegan menu with so many options. Dining in felt a little cramped as it was really busy and all the tables were booked. Dietary restrictions: They have a whole separate vegan menu with lots of tasty options!
Excellent service and food
Great service, incredible food, top-notch value
Great food. Healthy. Curry. Good service.
I ordered from here once before and asked for medium and it was too hot for my liking, I just ordered again tonight and made a point to ask for mild (padthai) and it was SO SPICY I could hardly make a dent in my dish. I am very disappointed as I was starving and I am left still hungry with a litre of water gone trying to eat what I can. I will not be ordering again. Very disappointed, when someones asks for mild its because they cant handle the heat so please respect that.
Ive gone here twice once was 5 star worthy and the last was 1 star worthy. The food was unique, tasty, good prices and was one of the best meals Ive had in newfoundland. The last visit was bad, many items not in stock, some ingredients were from a can, the flavors have been muted and portion size seeming smaller. I hope this restaurant returns to being as awesome as it was.
Relaxed atmosphere and quality of service is always consistent.
The space is bright and fresh. Really nice atmosphere. Delicious food, but not suitable for picky eaters - this is definitely a place for folks who enjoy Thai and Vietnamese cuisine. 10/10 recommend the crab rangoons to start as an appetizer - they are absolutely delicious and will leave you wanting to come back every day for more.
Fantastic
Clean, observing protocol, good food and service
Excellent!
First time patron. It was recommended by a friend. Great overall experience. Wait staff polite, food was served quickly. It was delicious! Cant wait to go again. Recommend green curry beef.
Bright cheerful atmosphere. Friendly service. Very accommodating to taste preferences (spicy vs. not so much spice) and dietary needs (veggie, gluten-free, etc.)
First time eating here, excellent Green curry beef with rice. Will definitely come back to try other dishes.
Our 1st but definitely not our last visit. Having recently moved to St.Johns just as Covid-19 hit, made it challenging to establish a list of go to restaurants. As restrictions are now lifting were finding more and more opening for dine in service. Tonight was Gingergrass where we both tried the Pad Thai, spicey for me, mild for my wife....so good that we must go back to try the many Vietnamese and Thai options. When you find yourself in downtown St. Johns we highly recommend finding the time to check out the food here. FYI...recommend calling ahead and making a reservation as it seems we arent the only ones that love the food here.
Had a fantastic meal at Gingergrass a few weeks ago. The Crab Rangoon appetizer was amazing. My wife and I each had a delicious Vietnamese combo plate. The staff were amazing as well despite it being a busy Friday evening. We will be back!
The food was delicious and amazing but it was really loud.
So good! I will definitely be a repeat customer
Delicious!
Excellent food, great service and reasonable prices. I go there whenever Im in St. Johns. Highly recommend.
It was so nice to have fresh, non greasy food... Very quick and professional service, we got food to go and ate in a park nearby. Everything tasted amazing. I will go back for sure!
Good food, always very crowded in there.
Always great. The level of spiciness can be intense. Thai level spice is pro-level spice.
Excellent service. The food was hot and delicious
Excellent food. Highly recommended.
Service was nonexistent, had to ask for service after 20 minutes. Out of fresh rolls. Curry was watered down. Pad Thai was delicious. No check-in from server, never asked how the food was or to give more water. Had to ask for our bill. Tables around us experienced similar lack of service.
Went for lunch today . felt very welcomed and will definitely be back. Had the Beef pho highly recommend it; alot of taste
Absolutely delicious food (the six of us each ordered one dish, plus some sides of rice, and we all shared), and fast friendly service. They seemed to have initially lost track of our reservation, but they set up our table quickly, so that worked out fine.
This was a great find while on vacation in St. John s. the restaurant was clean and tastefully decorated. I asked our server for recommendations on a dish and she suggested the northern Thai noodle curry with the crispy noodles- it did not disappoint! Highly recommend this spot whether you are a local or just visiting!
This was delicious!! This place was recommended by a friend and I will certainly recommend it to my family and friends!
Great service.Amazing food
Its overall a good restaurant with a bit of authenticity in it. Unlike mainstream asian restaurants. Tried the Thai Vietnamese Group Dinner For 2. Everything was good except for the Green Curry Chicken. DO NOT get this item. It reeks of turmeric and has a mild green chilli flavour. The green chilli flavour is fine and quite nice but the strong turmeric reek was awful. Everything else was nice and tasty.
Tasty food and fast service. Very popular, you definitely need a reservation, but not too expensive (most main dishes are around $15). The spicy level of almost every dish is completely customizable. I recommend the Thai iced milk tea and the coconut rice, theyre sticky-sweet, a great relief from spiciness, and I always finish them way too quickly!
Taste is just best in the city but the quantity is very low.
Great spot for Thai and Vietnamese food!
Best Pho in the city. Try the crab rangoon
My sister-in-law brought my wife and me both shrimp and chicken pad Thai take out. Delicious!
Amazing from start to end. They fit us in without a reservation and we still got served quickly (despite being a full house). Our waiter asked our dietary restrictions. Water came without the need to request. Finished plates were taken away quickly. There was a real sense of a whole team approach (other servers took our dirty plates, the owner refilled our waters, but with only our actual waiter taking our order there was zero confusion). The waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. And! The food was delicious. So much flavour. Would recommend 1000%. Looking forward to to trying more menu items.
Fantastic food
We had the dinner for 4. Everyone was very happy with our food, both taste and quantity. Good wait staff.
A busy place, so reservations are recommended to avoid disappointment. Dinners for 2, 3 or 4 present a fun experience and are a good value. A group of 4 could order two dinners for 2 and then share, share a meal for 4 or order four individual meals.
Excellent food presentation & taste. our Hostess Alexia was amazing!
