Food is amazing, service is amazing but weve tried to eat here 6 times now lately and each time its closed during open hours. I wish we lived closer so takeout made more sense for us. We miss your food. All the best.

Easily have the most tastiest food in st johns. Plus the amounts are very generous and very affordable. You also get free squash soup and an unlimited snack ( i cant remember what is it called but out of all thing my favourite is the snack dish)

Hands down the best food Ive ever eaten. You are greeted at the door, given a cup of green tea and a complimentary soup, as well as homemade sauces. From the tea and soup to when your food is ready was seemless. The gentleman who runs the place is clearly passionate about his business and the flavor and quality of the food showcases that. we ordered takeout for peaceful rolls, stir fried singapore rice and pan-fried hongkong style noodle. unfortunately hongkong style noodle didnt come with noodles... overall the food tasted good but wouldve been nicer to have noodle in the noodle dish.... also packaging isnt the best as the grease/liquid leaked through the bag. perhaps dining-in is a better route.

Excellent location. Very courteous owners. Free appetizers and green tea, which where continuously replenished. I believe one was a tofu dish, it was very delicious. Serving sizes for main course meals where much larger than excepted; Im a big eater and I still needed a to go box. Great food, would go again!

Owner was very welcoming and friendly, it is a comfortable place to enjoy delicious food alone and would be even better to share with friends! Since the area is surrounded by sidewalks and crosswalks, it shouldn t be hard to find a parking spot anywhere along the street near or far and then walk to the restaurant. The restaurant is run by two people only, yet the service and wait is very very good. I had the Singapore fried rice which was super tasty and the perfect amount of spiciness, and you can ask if you want what you ordered to be more or less spicy.

Stopped by the Peaceful Loft on our family trip to Newfoundland, and were certainly glad we did. 5 stars simply arent enough for this restaurant. We were warmly greeted by the owner, who took his time to explain the dishes and the house specialities. Everything we had was simply delicious, and very reasonably priced. I highly recommend the dine-in experience, and certainly worth dropping in or getting take out if you are anywhere near St. Johns.

We went for lunch. The owner is lovely. His wife cooks. The service was so great; they love what they do. You get free green tea and appetizer of TVP in a curry style and it s sooooo good. They also give you free oranges for dessert. So well priced and you get so much food. You can taste the love they put into their good. A must try. If you wish to feel as if you re placed at the dining table in their own home with such a welcoming and friendly host such as Paulo & his wife this is the location. As soon as I was seated I was treated with quality green tea from Taiwan and home made soup of the day without request, as well as a small appetizer of tofu with homemade sauces which were all continually refilled. The food does take a small while to arrive, at no complaint of my own, as it allowed me to fully enjoy the atmosphere and company of my companion, as well as the company of Paulo. I haven t even gotten to the food itself - I can truly attest it is cooked with love and care at a price which is an act of charity in its own right, plus how is it that it somehow reminds me of somebody s home in a culture I have never authentically experienced and a home for which I have never shared?

I would give 6-star if I could. This place has the best vegan food in town. Everything is so flavourful and Paulo the owner/server will melt your heart with his kindness, offering you green tea amd his homemade sauces before you even have time to sit! He will chat you up and offer you the most honnest opinions about sizes and prices. He even asked us to leave LESS tip! He prefers telling people the restaurant is full in order to offer the best quality of food and service. Be prepared two wait a bit for your food as they only have two sets of hands to do everything. Small Chinese restaurant run by a super welcoming couple. There are 5-6 tables, but the owner limits himself to not filling them all to provide better service. The service was more than perfect. A great welcome, soup and tea were served to us. The owner is more than generous with his time and his person. They really want to give perfect service. He advises on food and dishes. Seeking gave the best dishes to customers and not necessarily the most expensive. Vegan food was wonderful to me. Everything had a lot of flavor, color and smell. We hear that their restaurant is close to their hearts. I can only highly recommend this restaurant. I would invite everyone who visits St. John to go there. On the other hand, count yourself lucky if you have space. No reservations and take-outs possible. He even refused a tip which he said was exaggerated. I found my favorite restaurant in St. John with the Peaceful Loft.

We were in town for a visit and happened upon this amazing restaurant. They have many options for many dietary differences and the food was absolutely delicious. You could tell so much love and attention goes into the food. A very kind and generous couple runs the entire restaurant. Would highly recommend! If we had more time in the city, we would have returned. We were thinking about our meals for days afterwards. Always a sign of amazing food! We will be back hopefully in the future :)

Wow! What a special little gem! As soon as we sat down, glasses of green tea, little bowls of squash soup, and a tasty dish of prepared TVP with 2 sauces appeared. Only then did we have a menu presented to us. The owner was very solicitous and kind and proud to share the cuisine of his home area. He shared fresh lichee with everyone in the restaurant, and gave us tangerines at the end of the meal. Great food, great value, and great hospitality!

A must visit when in St. Johns, Incredible value for money! The menu has loads of choice and the owner is just the sweetest most lovely fella. Before youve even chosen your dish youre presented with a free cup of tea and some absolutely delicious homemade sauces. I went for the Singapore fried noodles and the portion was huge! I ended up having to take half home in a box as it was far too delicious to leave behind. You genuinely wouldnt know the food is vegetarian, the flavours are amazing and nothing feels lacking at all. Easily the best vegetarian noodle dish Ive ever had. If I ever visit St. Johns again I will 100% be returning to Peaceful Loft again!

We have been to this place twice now, my partner has got a few allergys in the last few months. The owner has been so nice and helpful with both of our experiences. Unbelievably good! The best restaurant I have been to, it should be on the Michelin guide.

What a gem this place is. I saw the reviews but I was very sceptical (vegan, no MSG, no garlic or onions) but the food blew me away. They ferment their own sauces and make this lovely relish type stuff that is just so tasty. I had the dumpling and the bbq duck and it was absolutely lovely. The kind and chatty owner makes you feel right at home. Vegetarian options: Everything, all is vegan.

Cannot recommend this place enough for dine-in! The restaurant is owned by an older gentleman from Macau and his wife who prepares all the food fresh everyday. You cannot beat the portion sizes here and everything always tastes so fresh. The owner gives you all his attention, often bringing out multiple refills of his special sides - the hot sauce, soy sauce, and TVP. He also provides complimentary veggie soup at the start of every meal and constantly refills your glass with warm green tea. Only thing is I d recommend you call ahead before you eat here because the owner does not update his restaurant timings on Google himself. Always an extremely satisfying experience dining here.

The owner is very nice, and the food is very delicious. I see a lot of people complaining about service, but what they don t know, is that it is a 2 person business, with the owner being the cashier and waiter and everything downstairs, and his wife is making all the food upstairs. I also see people complaining about the seating, where the owner will say that there s no room, but they see empty tables . Those tables are for the delivery food. All in all, this is one of the best restaurants in town, and anyone who complains about it doesn t know what s going on beneath.

This was a really nice dinner experience! Right when I sat down, the owner gave me a hot cup of tea and a bowl of soup. It was -28°C outside and this hit the spot. I had the spring rolls and Kung Pao Tofu dish. Both were delicious, and I highly recommend Peaceful Loft for the best vegan food in St. Johns.

Wow wow wow, the reviews are true. The flavors in my Kung Pao tofu were out of this world delicious. I got my order to go and picked up a brown paper bag that contained my Kung Pao (loads of tofu, vegetables, and rice), three very different sauces, a brothy soup, and a clementine! I just cant get over the flavors. And half of the tofu was prepared in a really decadent way that I cant quite describe. Ill be back to try another dish next time, thats for sure!

This place deserves a gold medal in service, price, quality, atmosphere, everything! After a long day it was extremely comforting and renewing to meet the owner and chat over free tea while our food was being prepared. He genuinely made both of us laugh and was nothing but kind and accommodating! I have celiac disease and he made sure I was not worried at all about the food and sauces. I have a lot of anxiety about being glutened from other restaurants and this was a very very nice change! Great gluten free options! He did mention that the building owner continues to raise his rent and that they soon may not be able to afford it. I feel the need to help them somehow.. if youre reading this review and know how we can help them, let me know! Id love to see them find a better building, they deserve it!

So great! Customer service the best I had ever experienced. This is my second time ordering and the owner really goes the extra mile to explain everything on the menu, make recommendations and really helps you not order too much food. The owner is the nicest man you will ever meet. We had dropped our food when we left the restaurant he replaced it and even gave us extra food. He brought us back inside and gave us tea while we waited. We are so thankful for this option of vegan and gluten free food in the city. The Peaceful Loft is well worth your visit--even if youre not vegan! Lots of gluten-free options too. FANTASTIC service & delicious food! The owner, who seems to also prepare the food, is a real gentleman who goes above & beyond; he served the 3 of us tea even though we were getting take-out, & he put several extras in, like fruit. Everything is reasonably priced & flavorful without msg. We had jumible balls (soo good!), peaceful rolls, portugese curry tofu, fresh pineapple noodles & lentil soup--enjoyed it all!! This place should be designated as a national or at the least Newfoundland treasure. I don t even know where to begin. We went into the Peaceful Loft and from the moment we entered we felt as if we were visiting family. The person who I m also assuming is the owner is such a gem. Brought us soup and tea (on the house BTW!) and made my daughter feel like a superstar. Gave us oranges and my daughter TWO juice packs. To be clear these weren t ordered items, he was just making us feel at home. We then ordered the food, and again to be clear, I am not vegan, I m a meat eater who went here just to cater to my Vegan fiancé, yet I can honestly say the food was indistinguishably awesome and delicious, no missing real meat here. The barbecue Pork was so amazing and the fish curry I had was LIKE fish, texture, smell and taste. The owner (I m assuming he s the owner) told us the story of how he became vegan and checked on us like we were family. To end it, I paid with cash and obviously with service like that they deserve a huge tip, but the gentleman was RELUCTANT to take a big tip. What? This is a place built and run with love. There is energy and goodness in this establishment that s unparalleled to anything I ve ever experienced. And if you haven t visited yet, vegan or not, PLEASE go in asap

This may be the best Chinese food you will find in Atlantic Canada, let alone in St. Johns. They make traditional Chinese dishes, while substituting meat with their own house-made meat substitutes made with soy, gluten, etc. The flavours are detailed and so beautifully rich, staying true to the flavours of the original dish - e.g. soy fish made with seaweed to give it an ocean flavour, or gluten marinated and grilled like char siu BBQ pork. Youll also get free house-made sauces which vary by the day, free soup, and free green tea. The portions are great, and the prices are great - less than $20 for nearly all dishes. All of this comes from the pure passion the old couple from Macau have for their art. The man (server) is a retired engineer in his 70s who opened the restaurant just to express his craft and not for any profit motives. The space is decorated with beautiful art and wise calligraphy, showing all that the couple has learned through their life. I have nothing but the utmost respect for them, and I highly recommend that everyone finding themselves in St. Johns tries this food whether they are vegan or not!

This was such a wonderful experience in hospitality and delicious food! I brought three non-vegans and everyone enjoyed their food! Genuinely one of the best restaurants in St. Johns. It is owned by a man and his wife and all the food is delicious and the service is excellent. You always get soup, house made sauces and green tea on the house! The Peaceful Roll and Singapore Noodles are my favourite. A must visit place!

We had a great experience stopping by this family owned vegan restaurant during our visit in St. John s. (We are not vegans) We found this place from online reviews about local favourites in town and this place did not disappoint. The owner Loi is so kind and generous and immediately served us with tea and soup upon sitting. We ordered the squash roll and shanghai noodles and a rice dish. Each dish was full of flavour and complimentary home made sauce was provided to add to your liking. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone, vegan or not, local or traveller. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Visiting from the Toronto area and we just had the most delish spring rolls EVER. Do not have to be vegetarian to enjoy this place. A small family business. The gentleman was friendly and attentive. Had squash spring roll added to our order after being blown away by the regular spring roll order. Had the Singapore rice noodle. Perfect curry flavour. The trio of sauces were all delicious - especially the curried tofu mushroom sauce.

Absolutely fell in love with this quaint restaurant. The food is prepared with love and is absolutely delicious. The owners run their business with kindness and it absolutely shows. I

It took 2 hours to get our food and they got our order wrong. We placed a takeout order (general tsao + Kung Pao chicken on rice) at 6:15pm. They asked us to pick up at 6:50pm because it was so busy that they needed time to prepare the food. Alternatively, he told us to come back another day instead. (2 tables were occupied by 2 people each, and were only in town for the night.) We got there late at 7:10pm and they told us to wait 5 more minutes. We finally got the food and to their credit they gave us Hongkong noodles to say sorry for the delay. We drove away to find a picnic spot. The order was all wrong. We called them and again to their credit, they cooked us a new batch of food. But all in all, we got to eat 2 hours after we placed our order and our entire evening in St. Johns was spent trying to pick up this food. Will edit to include review of food.

The food was delicious. The soup, tea and home made sauces which are complimentary are delicious. The owner was also a delight. From the outside you might not think it is great but once you sit are immediately served soup and tea and the owner starts chatting you forget the outside and just enjoy the atmosphere

I had a wonderful dinner here on my last night in St. John s! I needed something different after too much fried food, and Peaceful Loft was nearby. The owners are so sweet, sharing delicious and fresh homemade sauces with us and generously pouring green tea. We were even given fruit at the end of our tasty meal. I d happily eat here again when I m in town next :)

My friend took me here. We did take out. Im not vegan but the food is amazing. The gentleman was so kind and courteous. I highly recommend this place.

We have just experienced a takeout meal from the Peaceful Loft and it was so fresh and delicious. My family are not vegan but our guest is and we wanted to do something special for her birthday. We didn t miss the meat at all. Vegetarian options: Tried a variety of dishes and loved everything.

We had an amazing dining experience! We are both vegan and my wife is intolerant to garlic & onion and it was a first for us to be able to order anything on a menu. The food was absolutely amazing, the range of flavours is something to experience. Paolo told us about the restaurant, his story and the influence of the meals on the menu. He was a lovely host! Cannot recommend enough.

SOOOO GOOD!! I am vegan and fructose intolerant and this place caters for both! No onion, garlic or MSG s in their meals and totally vegan. And SO MUCH FLAVOUR!! Seriously the best food and Paolo is such a nice owner and shared a lot about his life and history. An amazing experience all round.

This place was highly recommended to us to visit, as a vegan family visiting from Ontario. The owner was so friendly, offered soup, beautiful home made sauces, fruit for my children, warming tea from Thailand all free of charge. The owner explained all of the dishes to us along with his recommendations. The portions are very generous, 4 of us shared 3 entrees. He also provided us with some recommendations on attractions and places to visit while we are here. We can not wait to return to St Johns to visit again.

The food is always great. I usually order for pickup and everytime I go inside to get my food the owner tries to take my card and asks how much tip I want to add. I dont think I should be pressured to tip when getting takeout. But the peaceful roll is amazing and worth going back for.

I am not vegan but I came here because of the good ratings. We had the singapore noodles and sweet and sour pork. I was surprised at how good the artificial meat was. The service was fantastic, the restaurant owner caters to your every whim and provides tea, homemades sauces, a free starter, and a mandarin orange for dessert. This is a really special restaurant.

This is a very unique restaurant. Excellent service by the friendly owner, delicious innovative food, and a cozy atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit here, and we learned new ways to prepare and enjoy vegetarian food. I would highly recommend it for a great dining experience.

its a 10 out of 10! Paolo was so sweet and interesting. We didnt had the time to sit and we already had a soup served. The portions were generous and so good. It is nice to have a restaurant 100% vegan and being able to order anything on the menu. Been there while on a trip to St John and I felt so welcome. It was an amazing experience. I recommend 100%

Amazing little place! I get the crispy noodles almost every time! The portion size gets bigger each time I visit! Free green tea, complimentary daily soup and some small lentil appetizers on the house before I even place my order. I usually warm up quickly on a cold day once inside. Prices reasonable, friendly man server and his wife run the show. Never can finish and will take home the rest. Free candy and chocolates on the way out. Today he even gave us four clementines to take with us! Don t change a thing Peaceful Loft! See you next visit :)

Wow!! I ducked into this restaurant on a cold windy day and was immediately greeted with hot tea, soup and handmade sauces. I ordered the dumplings and singapore-style fried rice and both were absolutely delicious. I received huge portions at super-reasonable prices, and the server was warm and attentive. This place is wonderful - I wish I lived nearby so I could eat here again and again.

We were visiting from Alberta, and we found this special place, an absolute gem, in downtown St.Johns. It is owned by a nice couple from Macau. The owner was extremely friendly, sweet, and approachable. We had the kung Pao vegetables + tofu and rice, and Hong Kong style noodles, with fake pork and chicken. The food was authentic, completely vegan, and absolutely delicious. The sauces were completely homemade. I was blown away!!! Would recommend!

The owner was so nice and food was really good with big portion! He first served us a bowl of soup and let us try some of his home made sauces before even giving us the menu. The soup was super refreshing and fragrant! Also, I was surprised to find a vegetarian place like this because the owner and his wife made almost everything from scratch: sauces and meats . There is not a lot of authentic Asian food here so I was surprised to find a restaurant like this! Loved it! And if you think that vegetarian food is not filling, well I ll assure you that you won t because the portion was huge!

The owner is extremely nice and warm. We enjoyed the awesome tea (and yes the top quality loose leaf tea and not the tea bags).The food price is very reasonable and the portion size is more than enough for you to have both dinner and leftover for next day. Try their special source - the spice one and the salty ones are great!

Really good food, whether you are vegetarian or not. Friendly, helpful owner/server. Large portions - sauce/condiments kept being refilled... surprised they can make any money with the amount of food we were served! Update: so happy that two years later they managed to outlast Covid :).

Nicest owners and delicious food!

We picked up four dishes and went to the waterfront for dinner and WOW, this place is five stars in all ways. Paolo (sp?) Is such a great man and human. And the food is beyond belief. Im from Ontario where there are lots of vegan options and Peaceful Loft puts many of them to shame. Amazing compassion. Unmatched flavour. Just the best. The oil. You ll find here a complaint about the amount of oil used in some dishes. My wife, who is Chinese, and I were discussing it and would like to offer an observation. Paolo and his wife are working hard to replicate the animal based dishes to help people be more compassionate to our fellow earthlings and the planet. To do this requires addressing the details of some foods. Hence, you will find some dishes, such as the replicated duck which is very greasy in fact, using some oil. Don t be alarmed or turned away, it is to help ease into the idea that we don t need to cause harm to eat flavourfully .enjoy

If this place were in an area where Michelin operated, it would have a Bib Gourmond. It is an absolute gem. I was on my own dining in, greeted enthusiastically by who I presume is the owner. The portions were huge, I was served soup and tea right as I was settling in. The owner introduced me to all their homemade sauces and kept refilling them as I kept consuming them. Eating here felt to me more akin to being invited to dine in someone s house. I felt so welcomed and the food was spectacular. I left felt completely stuffed and although I have but one more day in town, I may try to go back.

Do not go to this place. I walked in after walking one mile to eat there and the waiter said take out only we are two busy Yet there were two tables of people dining in and the rest of the place was empty

The place is cozy and owned by a charming couple. The service is great, we were welcomed with soup and Taiwanese high mountain tea. They take a lot of care in sourcing their ingredients and preparing their food which is delicious.

Vegan travelers you wont go hungry here! Delicious food with large portions. Really, listen to the owner if he tells you, because the entrees were huge! Which was great for us since wed been walking all day. :) This is a literal mom & pop so check your chain-style expectations at the door and go with the flow. The owners are passionate and laser focused on customer service. Youll feel like well taken care of and assured that everything is vegan. That alone is worth 5 stars. We came in for an early dinner but just know that if the owner tells you its busy that you can still order! He really cares about communicating service expectations. And, you know, after enjoying the local craft beers and heavier vacation fare, it was nice to drink tea and eat a healthy meal. We loved eating here so much and the leftovers were amazing. Especially nice since there was only one vegan option at my hotel. Getting to enjoy this food another day was a real treat. This place is amazing and my only regret is that we only ate here once during out trip. :)

Delicious food and a wonderful friendly atmosphere. They were able to accommodate my strict gluten free diet and I absolutely loved learning about the tea that the owner shared with us. We felt so welcome and the delicious food has made it our new favorite place to visit when we are in the area. Servings are extremely generous! What a blessing to have visited this warm and welcoming place. It certainly is a peaceful loft!

This place was fantastic. The food was incredible and so flavourful, with great gluten free options. The real treat of the Peaceful Loft was the service- it was a busy night, and the owner immediately let us know it would be a longer wait. It s only him and one other person. However, he immediately brought us soup and sauces, and our appetizers came out quick. He explained the history of the tea to us, and was working incredibly hard to serve the other patrons at the same time. The overall wait was not long at all, and the food was delicious. Also very affordable. The Peaceful Loft is absolutely worth the visit!

Absolutely a must. As someone who is primarily a carnivore, I would highly recommend. The meat substitutes were absolutely delicious and the homemade sauces complemented the dishes EXTREMELY well. This dining experience reminded me of going to my grandparents for dinner. Portions were huge and the prices were very reasonable. I d give 10 stars if I could! You must try it. :)

We had a delicious meal. The hospitality was excellent. It was lovely to know that everything on the menu is plant-based. There is a gluten-free menu also.

This is the best reviewed restaurant in St. John s for a reason. It was the highlight of our visit to the city. My friends and I road tripped from Virginia to Newfoundland, going across Canada and making use of the Port aux Basque ferry. As we got further and further north, our single vegetarian had more and more issues finding good food, while the rest of us were very happy with the fish and meats on offer across most of the island. However, when we saw that Peaceful Loft was well reviewed, after our boat tour we headed back to St. John s and walked through the rain for a kilometer to get there. When we arrived in, the owner immediately set the table and began pouring us some wonderful high altitude oolong tea, which he kept topped off throughout the two hours that we would stay there. He continued by bringing us out some of his homemade sauces for us to try, which he also refilled as they got low. I was so enamored with the mushroom sauce I asked him for the recipe, which he happily described to me in detail so that I could make it at home. My other favorite one was a deliciously earthy and pungent mix of TVP and herbs. He also brought us the soup of the day, which was a flavorful and hot squash soup. He gave our members with wet hair from the rain warm cloths to dry off with, then gave us the menu. The tea, sauces, and soup were all complimentary. We each ordered a different thing to share amongst ourselves and all of us greatly enjoyed our food. While ordering, the owner (Paolo) was happy to describe each dish in detail and recommend things to us. When my vegetarian friend mentioned the troubles she had been having with finding good vegetarian food, he was quick to reassure her that nothing in the restaurant was animal based and that she could safely take food from any of our shared plates, which she usually isn t able to do. Trying something from each dish, I found everything to have wonderful flavor and texture. The spring rolls there were some of the best I ve ever had. When we left, our bill was under CA$100 for five entrees and an appetizer, and doesn t count the complimentary teas, soups, or sauces. He walked us through the bill, then sent us off with a big bag of fresh clementines, chocolates, and strawberry candies. I would come back to St. John s just to go here again.

This is a delicious restaurant! The owner, Paulo, is very kind and inviting. He s a lot of fun to talk to! Paulo taught us about Macao s history and recommended some delicious plates. I really recommend coming here for some yummy and comforting food. We got a lot of food and it was at a great price!

SO DELICIOUS! Everything is VEGAN! I ordered the vegan bbq pork with tofu and vegetables. It was one of the best vegan dishes I have ever had. The squash/vegetable soup was great and he gave me an asian pear to go. Super friendly and super delicious food. 10 stars!!

Ive had great service at other restaurants before but nothing like what Ive experienced today at Peaceful Loft. We were taken care of the minute we stepped though the door - it felt as if we were getting too spoiled LOL. To start, we were served hot tea, soup, and an assortment of sauces before ordering our meals. When we received our main dishes, we were given tips on how to amplify each meal (with the sauces) which made the whole eating experience even more enjoyable. You can tell how much they care for their customers and how much love they put into their business. They deserve to be recognized P.S. their sauces are INSANELY GOOD. 10000/10.
