Incredible food. Loved every dish. The savoury donut, kangaroo taco and the mead vinegar custard were outstanding. The service was also very attentive and the experience felt special, but with an inner west neighbourhood restaurant feel. Great atmosphere too, not too loud and chaotic brought my mother who was happy about that. Loved it!

What a night! Absolutely incredible dishes with outstanding service. I can t wait to go back.

We enjoyed dinner for 2 with paired wines. From the moment we walked through the door, everything was just wonderful. The service was impeccable without being overbearing. Everyone was really lovely, friendly and personable. The food was sublime in both presentation and taste. We loved that the chefs brought the different courses to the table explaining ingredients and preparation behind each dish. Every mouthful felt like a guilty pleasure, it was all so delicious. Wine pairing was fantastic. We are not big wine drinkers but absolutely loved finding out the background of each wine and then discovering for ourselves just how elevated a dish could become when complimented with the right wine. I rarely leave written reviews but our Sixpenny experience was outstanding! We certainly won t hesitate to recommend or revisit!

Was it nice? Yes. Was it worth the price point? No. I left Sixpenny wanting more from the experience and can t help but think was that it? The food was high quality, presented well and cooked to perfection but it just didn t have that wow factor you expect from a restaurant of this calibre. I know it has the name and reputation but I can t help but feel disappointed. After dining at the likes of Attica, Oncore amongst other similar price point venues, we find you leave with a wow impact that leaves you talking about the food for weeks and weeks after the meal. We didn t get this from Sixpenny. The service was ok, some staff are friendly, some are quite cold. It s a sweet little venue though on a lovely street. We re glad we ve ticked it off our list and did enjoy the meal, it just didn t live up to our expectations and we wouldn t return again.

The food was absolutely amazing. Very interesting combinations and flavours. As a person who has been to a few 3 star Michelin restaurants in Europe my expectations were high especially with the pricing in this restaurant. I personally didn t like the atmosphere, tables and in general the decor. As such a high end restaurant they should put more effort in that area. I also didn t like the presentation of the food and the dishes the food came in. Very average. The overall experience however was nice given the great food and great service. I would invest more in the food presentation and plating!

This was disappointing. We went for my husbands birthday. The food was OK. The wine pairings were not good. I don t usually turn down a wine, but I really found these pairings to be bad. There are so many better places to go in Sydney. Don t spend your money here.

In my opinion, this has been the best restaurant in Sydney for some time, next to Lumi and Civico 47. The food is always amazing. The menu changes regularly, with a core staple of the raspberry dessert.the service is so warm. And what you get for what you pay, its always worth it. Last night my favorite was the tomato and fermented strawberry tart, the marron, along with the banana and coffee dessert. I LOVE THIS PLACE.

My fiancée and I are very pleased to welcome Sixpenny to our GOAT mountain with LuMi & Eleven Madison Park. Every dish had us dancing - my previous meal here was great but not exceptional. Our meal last night has potentially surpassed the impossibly high bar set by LuMi. Book now - incredible.

Great food and atmosphere! Absolutely the Fine in fine dining.

It was ok. It didnt live up to the hype for me. It was my partners third time and she also said it wasnt as good this time. New chef maybe. The atmosphere is a little stale too. I also didnt like that the wine pairing started from the second course giving them another upsell opportunity in addition to their pre-drink push.

Fantastic food and service.. first class

Felt like this placed missed the mark for us. We were seated for the lunch time and it ended up taking over 3 hours. This seemed to drawn out with waits of up to 30 minutes between courses. The snacks provided at the beginning tasted somewhat like actual snacks such as shapes or Doritos. This may have been what they were going for. In most dishes the presentation was amazing, but there seemed to be to many competing tastes in most dishes. In our opinion the desserts were some of the better meals served. I do not regret dining at Sixpenny, however I will likely not be a repeat visitor.

Cannot recommend enough. Have never eaten so good or been treated so well in a Sydney dining experience. 1000/10.

However, one minor drawback is the close proximity of the tables, which may result in overhearing neighboring conversations. Overall, it was a memorable and delightful experience.

Loved loved loved our lunch here. We had the private dining room with a view of the kitchen. All the staff were superb and so well coordinated - impeccable service! The food, amazing! Wonderful food & service

Absolutely loved our dining experience at Sixpenny. After being told about the restaurant from a server in Canberra, it started the long quest of lining up booking availability with a trip to Sydney but finally managed it. The interior of the restaurant is absolutely stunning with so much to see. Even a trip to the bathroom is amazing because you get to check out all the various ingredients and jars of fermenting goodies. All the staff are lovely and attentive, walked us through each dish and recommended perfect pairings for each. Everything that came out was amazing, each had a unique flavour profile and really demonstrated the skills of the chefs. At the end of the night we all left full which is always an extra tick. Looking forward to eating here again!

What I loved the most? Definitely the yesterday s loaf !!!! Hinge of sweetness with the bitterness and aroma from the ytd loaf powder and coffee makes the perfect combo! Everything else is spectacular as well loved the entree as well, unique texture that I would never expect. The squid was wt won the game, def need to try.

I celebrated my husbands birthday at this 3-hat restaurant nestled in a charming heritage building. Our table, located in a side room with a window view into the kitchen, provided an interesting glimpse into the culinary action. The customer service was commendable, and the creatively crafted dishes were a delight. While they served a soft dessert, they skipped the candle for my husband. Although they thoughtfully provided a birthday card, suggesting small cupcakes for candle-blowing could enhance the birthday celebration experience. Overall, it was a good dining experience.

This restaurant is a must if you love fine dining. Food, drinks and service where amazing. We will definitely come back again. It looks like an ordinary office or house from the outside, in a quiet street in Stanmore, no views. From the moment you walk in you are transported to an adventure of taste. You dont know what the menu is until you are seated which adds to the element of surprise. The menu is very generous one of the best weve had, we walked out very full and with a takeaway bag of the petit fours which we ate the next day. We were celebrating our anniversary and the card we got along with the menu to keep was a very nice touch.

Completely Amazing! From the moment we walked in i felt at ease and in the hands of the highly trained staff. Perfect balance of friendly, informative, and punctual. The food! My wife and I enjoy fine dining having eaten at most of the big names in the city I was excited to try out this restaurant not far from home. All I can say is WOW. Never have I eaten at a restaurant and been blown away with each dish that came out. Every dish was 10/10 the use of different fermentation processes really lifted each plate to a new level. Not only the taste but the portion sizes were generous. I could not eat a single crumb more. Perfectly priced in my opinion with a friendly and well attentive front of house staff. This dining experience was faultless. If I could give more stars I would. Hats off to chef tony and all the staff I wish I could go back tomorrow!

Flight over to Sydney just for dinning at Sixpenny . There are so many elements that make up every single one of these dishes. Staff were attentive and service was amazing just as you d expect.

One of my favorite fine dinning places in Sydney, if not the favorite. I m never disappointed every time I go. I especially like the cozy dinning room in the back that allows some privacy and a peak to the kitchen. Food is beautiful and you can tell they really thought about how to play mix and match to bring out the best of all the ingredients. And I like the rotate of texture from each dishes. It s a 3 hours food heaven that leaves you full and satisfied and walk out with a smile.

Amazing! Can t go wrong with Sixpenny if you are into fine dining or want a place to celebrate a special occasion. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented - the Murray Cod being the standout; it was cooked to absolute perfection. I was stuffed by the end of it all but would have eaten more of it if I had the option to. We got to try Yesterday s Bread made from leftover sourdough, honey and coffee grounds which was very nice. We took home the petit fours to enjoy afterwards and were given a copy of the menu as a memento of our visit.

Outstanding meal - every course absolutely delicious.

Service staff were not attentive and did not smile all the time. It was hard to get their attention, and we had to ask them to pour the wine every time. When chefs serve the food, it was okay. They explained very well and were friendly. Food was just normal (the first 3 snacks were nice). All the chefs must bw working hard on their food. If the floor staff did nice service for the customers, it must feel more yummy. I couldnt enjoy the food at all except the desert. The desert was amazing. Especially raspberry. It was very yummy. It reminded me of the snow egg. The wine list was poor, interms of price of the wine, there is no advantage. (Were just wondering why they open a wine with screws in front of the customers, but they open at the back with corks.) Maybe we had high expectations because they have 3 hats. Just very very expensive experience. Im very disappointed when I think that I spent almost $900 for dinner.

My second time visiting Sixpenny for a birthday dinner - very happy to say, it was just as good, if not even better than my last visit a few years ago. The degustation menu was creative, innovative and the chefs play on fermentation of food was quite prevalent, and delicious. The service was top notch, the dining atmosphere intimate, and the personal touches for a birthday celebration dinner were very thoughtful and appreciated. Must also note - they were more than happy to accommodate for dietary requirements (in this case, lactose intolerance) and my partner was able to enjoy all his dishes. Im hoping to come back here to celebrate another occasion. Dietary restrictions: Very accommodating in relation to dietary requirements.

A Wow - the food really speaks for itself. Sixpenny is not one of those classic fine dining restaurants with breathtaking views or glamorous atmospheres in Sydney. It s rather unique, the interior of this 1907 corner terrace is modestly but elegantly furnished with a touch of vintage creates an extremely chill and relaxing dining atmosphere that guests can just focus on the food itself. The mindset of both creativity and sustainability is embedded in every single dish. From the locally sourced ingredients to the perfect balance of all flavours in each course, the amount of attention to detail is mind-blowing. The recycled sourdough and the kangaroo tartare alone merits a visit. The waiters are very friendly, and the chefs would come to the table to present their courses which adds a little more to the dining experience. To be honest, this is my second visit and I will keep going back as it really is THAT GOOD. Parking: Convenient free street parking nearby

Had wanted to go to this place for a long time and it did not disappoint! Loved that the menu changes and was definitely fun that they only reveal the menu at the end. Be prepared to stay for a LONG dinner however - over 3 hours. They re also very accomodating with dietary requirements. Most of the dishes were hits - unfortunately we didn t enjoy the desserts as much.

Had the chance to finally make it to Sixpenny, living in Byron Bay makes it a bit difficult. The whole experience was excellent. Food was perfectly executed. What really made the difference was the service we got from every single staff member. We ended up doing the wine pairing plus sharing a bottle of wine. Every single explanation of the wine pairing was super interesting, they made us feel engaged with them and you could feel the passion from the team when talking to us. The sommelier, Vincent and the restaurant manager, all three touched base with us. I could not pick a better explanation because literally they were all perfect. Working in hospitality it is really beautiful to see a team shine like that. Make sure you end up your meal with a glass of Tokaji Aszu Eszencia.

Squid dish is best of the best

One of the best fine dining places in Sydney, I dare say the world. Food is approachable but with complex flavours made with intricate techniques and great attention to detail. The wine pairing was a delight that a layperson can understand the flavour combinations and pairing.

We have eaten here a few times over the last 3 years and for the first time I ve walked away feeling less than satisfied. To be clear, the food is excellent, no doubt, but the change in staff and the increase in price has left me questioning if we will return. 4 of us dined here last year and including wine we were presented with a bill of approximately $1000 .this time around, for an almost identical menu as last year ..$1500. We all know the cost of living has gone up but a 50% increase?? We won t be back .but if paying $300 to $400 a head is your budget then you shouldn t be disappointed

Sydney, stanmore Leisurely long sunday lunch. Just a bit too long a meal sessions unfortunately. Food was very nice. Fresh oyster, nice jerusalem artichoke tart, kangaroo tartare taco, snapper cucumber and caviar, squid, nice murray cod, wagyu and truffle which was milder than usual, very nice frozen raspberry custard and strawberry, very big serving of pear cake quince icecream etc. it was a huge lunch +

Ah. Sadly, another example of how the Australian Good Food Guide Chefs Hat system is a total sham and completely out of step with international standards. Curb your enthusiasm or perhaps don t even go. Disappointing. Has potential but it needs a big injection of capability both in the kitchen and it s front of house / wait staff to make it worthy of its three hats and price tag. 1. Limited seasonality in the food - what you see on Google reviews from the last few years is what you get. 2. Wait staff are pleasant enough, but there is little refinement and a knowledge deficit. It was completely unclear who the head somm was by mid way through the meal. We had to ask them to point them out. When considering undertaking the paired wines (Sommeliers Pairing $230) it got described as classics . With sake and stuff . A recommended wine got described as just pungent and then they read the same tasting notes already written on the menu. Nothing more. It was my husbands birthday, they texted to pre-arrange a small cake for $15 and asked for his name - that was lovely but the cake never made it to the table. Likewise, during the dinner, a request for more bread never showed up either. And a bad cocktail which was left half unfinished from the start of the meal sat there for 3.5 hrs . Melting no one asked whether it was okay or even bothered to take it away. 3. The execution and quality of the cooking had some highs and some lows. One of the standout dishes (the maron tail) was totally over cooked and tough. The beef rib was yummy served with parsnip pure and some minced mushrooms nothing out of the ordinary if you are a half decent cook and know your way around a slow cooker or sous vide. One chef brought an entire meal to the table and couldn t remember what was on the plate. The tuna cabbage dish and the desserts were the highlight. But, if you can cook, take the money and buy a knockout bottle of wine and stay home or go to your local favourite because this place will leave you feeling a little bit empty and sad that Australia (despite our awesome talent and produce) doesn t understand what top tier food and dining experiences look like. They are almost their own worst enemy. For fewer hats (or no hats) it would be more palatable. But, for a restaurant who sends this pass agg text message when you are on your way (and you have ALREADY confirmed your reservation): Youre due at Sixpenny in 30 minutes. If you are running late, please let us know by responding to this message you would expect to be met with an amazing experience to validate that kind of comms. The one, two or three Michelin stars of the world would die.

I visited this restaurant yesterday, and I cannot express how disappointed and disgusted I am with the experience. My two companions and I had the unfortunate pleasure of dining here, and it was nothing short of a nightmare. The food was average. However, one of the dishes we ordered arrived at our table with a pungent and nauseating stench. When we inquired about it, the staff claimed that the odor emanating from the bowl was merely the scent of vinegar. But we believe it was not, because after eating, all three of us fell ill. We suffered from severe diarrhea, and I experienced vomiting throughout the night. Although there is no direct evidence showing that our illness was directly linked to the food we had consumed at this restaurant, it would be quite a coincidence if all three of us experienced illness after the dining experience at Sixpenny. Hygiene and quality control may be questioned here. It was an extremely unpleasant and distressing experience, to say the least. I strongly advise anyone considering dining here to think twice. Our terrible experience is something I wouldnt wish upon my worst enemy, and I hope you can avoid an unpleasant experience. Our health and well-being were jeopardized, and I hope no one else has to go through what we endured.

I went to eat Sixpenny again after many years. The last time was three years ago, and the food was not ideal. The chair backs were very hard, the food was not amazing, and I felt it was not worthy of 3 hats. This time it was a birthday party. My friend had never eaten here and wanted to try this restaurant, so I came to Sixpenny again, thinking that the dishes might be improved in a few years. After all, it is a three-hat restaurant, but this time the impression was even worse. The appetizers were ordinary. It s not amazing. All the main dishes are very salty, and the desserts are also very average. Everyone s eating habits are different. Maybe my diet is relatively light. After eating, the heart rate detected by my Apple watch has been 120+, and the high heart rate reminder continues until The next morning. The other two friends both had diarrhea, and I didn t know which dish caused it. To be honest, the service is good, especially one of the guys is very discerning. But the overall experience was very bad, and for me, I will never go there again.

Came back for a second visit and they still nailed it! First visit was almost four years ago and it s good to see the quality of food is still amazingly good and staffs are so welcoming and friendly, its the consistency that makes me want to visit the restaurant again. I was very delighted to see the raspberry and strawberry dessert again! It s my all time favourite! A very tangy and aromatic blend of both the vinegar and berries makes it a great palate cleanser! Please keep it in the tasting menu, would love to try it again in the future! This restaurant is also one of the very few that takes the lead in new technology, very impressive to know how easy it is to pay the bill simply by scanning a QR code! It s definitely much more preferable compared to using an eftpos machine.

Rang up, arranged some surprise cocktails on arrival for a friends birthday to make their dinner extra special and authorised my card. Got a call the day after that they messed up and didn t do so for whatever reason. This isn t the 3 hat service I was hoping they d provide.

Have been twice now, and a stunning inner west gem which you have to visit at least once. The food is incredible, and the menu changes frequently to reflect the availability of fresh, local ingredients. The highlight this time around has to be the WA Marron, but permanent items like the oysters (this time served with a fermented banana vinaigrette) and Rhubarb soda are also a must. Also love the approach to sustainability - you ll definitely be asking for more of their house made bread, which they make using leftovers from the previous night. The service is phenomenal love having the chefs present the food and explaining how the meal was created and where the ingredients have come from, and they shine when it comes to the small details. We received a hand written card at the end of the night for our anniversary - a sweet little momento of Stanmore, and the menu comes delivered in an envelope at the end of your meal (everyone receives the same menu, so you won t know what you re in for until the food is delivered to your table!) We sat in the back dining room, which was wonderfully cosy and which also has a window that overlooks the kitchen.

Took my husband here for his birthday and it was absolutely fantastic! Food was great, drinks were awesome and service was amazing, the staff were extremely attentive and friendly. Quality of food was definitely top notch, every dish had great flavour but also different from the previous. I also loved that they are sustainable with their ingredients, reusing left over bread or herbs to make new dishes. Really great experience, Id come back again!

food is very good but for a 3 star and at 250 a head I would say its just average at best. I mainly post this to write about the service, which was bizarre - 30 minutes to bring out the first course, and then the entire meal (7 courses) probably took over 3.5 hours, so a course every 30 minutes. Not really sure why its so slow, its obviously a choice, but it rubbed me the wrong way. The food had a tonne of effort into it and most of the courses worked well.

Came here with a couple of friends for dinner and absolutely loved it. The ambience the service and most of all the food is amazingly good. After having been disappointed with top end restaurants in Sydney I was not sure what to expect but, this place changed my perception from the first mouthful right through to the end. It was also the first time I have seen people present the dishes that looked the same but one was vegetarian. The mascarpone butter is divine here and probably the best butter I have had in Australia. We had three seafood courses, a meat course and two dessert courses with amouse and petit fours to start and finish the meal. The seafood courses were great and cooked to perfection. The roast pork was really good too with intense rich flavour. The dessert was just amazing and so tasty I had to lick my bowl ;-) the warm petit fours at the end were like the perfect end to an amazing meal. Service and food combined it s probably the best place in Sydney I have been to. Happily come here any day.

Great experience. Staff handled everything to perfection especially George who had to navigate reservation changes after online booking issue. Food was unique and amazing. The venue was also unique in offering a blend of home feel and personal attention yet still pulling off a classy feel.

Amazing, food and matching wine outstanding

Came to Six Penny years ago and again today. Absolutely amazed with the consistency of quality of the food over so many years and the service levels - it s not easy and your team did it! Food was excellent and the bread + mascarpone is GOAT.

Having been to many fine dining establishments. I was blown away by sixpenny. Food was fantastic. Complex yet unpretentious. Wine pairing was spot on and the service was the best Ive ever had, We were served by Hayden and he was hands down the greatest wait staff, funny, knowledgeable and made us feel at home. I would recommend sixpenny to anyone!

Most pleasant place to eat. Well executed foods and welcoming service. Booking is not easiest but theres sometimes cancellations that you can catch if you follow the IG.

The food is incredibly delicious and has a range of imaginative flavour combinations. A considerable amount of thought and effort goes into each dish. However it is very very expensive. 350-450 per head. Not really in everyone s price range. The stand out dish for me was the squid in butter sauce/foam. But honestly nothing was bad on the menu. The recycled honey and coffee sourdough was also pretty special.

Our first three-hatted dining experience here in Sydney, absolutely top-class food and service, also the portion is bigger than most fine-dining in Sydney, doesn t feel like we spent 4 hours at the restaurant! Hope we can come back again, can t wait!

Went to sixpenny for my birthday. This was not my first time and what kept bringing me back was it s amazing food and outstanding service. However, I was disappointed this time. The waiters were not engaging and seem like they did not know we were here to celebrate birthday. I like the tuna and cod but not a big fan of the pork loin. I was quite surprised that a fine dining restaurant serves pork, was expecting wagyu beef or duck. I guess it was a bit risky to have the menu after.

7 course menu including a big savoury and dessert snacks. Food was outstanding and ended with full and happy feeling.
