Disappointing Experience with Bread Quality today, August 26, 2024 I’ve been a regular customer at The Old Church Bakery, visiting every weekend for their bread. However, my recent experience left me quite disappointed. I bought two loaves of whole wheat bread, expecting the same freshness and quality as before. When I got home, both loaves were hard and didn’t feel fresh at all. I decided to go back and mentioned this to the lady at the counter. She was polite but simply explained that this type of bread has a hard texture and was likely baked the previous night. However, in the past, I’ve bought the same bread, and it stayed fresh for an entire week. So this didn’t seem consistent with what I had experienced before. While the staff acknowledged my concern and said "sorry", they didn’t offer any solution or replacement. It felt like my issue was brushed off, leaving me quite disappointed. After this experience, I’ve unfortunately decided not to return. If you value consistent quality, freshness or empathetic staff, you may want to reconsider.
Delicious bakery. I come here everytime I go to Steinbach (I’m out of town thankfully otherwise I’d be 100% carbs). Service is always great and products are always fresh.
The bread here is AMAZING! We happened to be in the area and decided to give it a try based on the recommendation of our friends. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We were asked numerous times if we needed help while we were deciding on what breads to try. We did not try any of their desserts but all of the breads that we sampled were delicious! They were also able to slice all of our breads for us so we didn’t have to slice them ourselves. They even have a rewards program (punch card) if you visit them often enough. We can’t wait to return!
Amazing baking! Their bread selection is wonderful. Such great sourdough and their potato bread is so soft and good! Very good pastries. The staff are always very friendly and genuine! Also don’t sleep on their coffee, even though it’s a bakery they have quite a decent latte. Support amazing local businesses like this one!
I was looking forward to trying a cruffin for a while. I had the Pina Colada. I should have had the strawberry/ lime. Cold brew was good.
We were in town and it was recommended to us to check out this bakery. It was fairly small inside. We went early in the morning and there weren’t many things available that interested us. You can’t just get something simple like a regular muffin. Everything looked very fancy and boutique-y. Lots of icing and everything seemed very decadent. It was fairly busy when we were there. There bakery items seemed more for a treat or something you’d buy for dessert. Items did look like they’d be tasty, if not very sweet, but not a place to grab something simple to eat in the morning.
Delicious breads, pastries, and savouries! Bright, inviting and very clean atmosphere. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful. Would highly recommend the trip!
Very cute bakery, need to get there early if you want a bigger selection. So many people came in while we were having coffee and many of the things they wanted were sold out. The lemon blueberry cake was my absolute favorite and their croissants were delicious. I also had one of their lattes which was also very good

A nice little gem of a bakery. Love their cruffins & pastries, and their bread is the most delicious! They lose one star for the staff not being very friendly. The young man is friendly enough, but the woman who served me last time was not very friendly at all. Maybe she was having a bad day. However, I come for the baking, not the staff.
such a delightful bakery! I pop in here occassionally for treats- their chocolate cake is my husbands favorite. Recently, I asked the Bakery to prepare several Boxes to give as gifts to our suppliers. They did an absolutely FABULOUS job! it was a delight to give the treats to various companies. Beautiful presentation with a fresh and unique assortment of delectable baked goods. Thank you! I highly recommend this cafe and bakery to all looking for a unique stop as you enjoy Steinbach!

Hard to find good coffee when youre traveling. They pulled a really good shot for my Americano yesterday. This will be my go-to place for the next few days while Im in Steinbach

Their freshly baked cruffins (croissants + muffins) are absolutely to die for. Im surprised their coffee failed to compliment their baked goods though. Food

Exceptional cinnamon buns Cappuccino could use more grams of milled espresso beans per standard take out cup. Its overpowered by the richness of the milk froth. Cruffin has a nice amount of filling and is not overpowered by sweetness. Croissant was ok
I ve visited Old Church Bakery numerous times and dedication to the quality of their baked items shows. I ve never been disappointed. Consistent quality. Great customer service. Whether you are going to pick up one of your favourite sourdough loaves of bread or trying one of their new cruffin flavour combinations, you re in for a treat. Don t forget to grab a coffee too!

Delicious bread and the cruffins are amazing!
Fantastic little bakery. Mostly sourdough, but its all good! Staff was very pleasant to talk to. Parking: The parking lot is small, and shared with numerous other shops. Wheelchair accessibility: Its located level with the ground, however the inside is kind of tight, so it may be hard to maneuver inside.
I have been buying their bread and other delicious products for many years at St. Norbert Farmers Market. Today I had the opportunity to go to their bakery in Steinbach and I loved it! I had a latte, a gouda croissant, and a pain au chocolat. Absolutely delicious!

Delicius bread!!!!!
This is a small cute bakery serving a variety of french pastries and baked goods such as baguettes, croissants, breads and buns. I have tried the baguettes numerous times and they are delicious authentic tasting. The croissants , however, specifically the pain au chocolat, is very heavy and not airy and fluffy at all. As to the plain croissants, you know when you walk into a bakery and it has that bakery smell? That s how the plain croissants taste. They unfortunately do not have that specific buttery croissant flavour unlike other croissants I tried. They serve local roasted coffee which is quite delicious.
Stopped into this gem of a bakery while in Steinbach yesterday .Everything we bought was delicious ! Highly recommend the sourdough bread , sticky buns and the key lime cream puff was amazing !!!
Smells amazing when you walk in. Friendly staff. And unique items. Tried a pistachio crazin. (Not sure if spelled right lol) but its basically a croissant flattened and rolled up to look like a taller muffin and then filled with pistachio cream and had some glaze on it. Rolled in sugar too. Love unique things!

The fact that they have the best bread in town is well established, but I just had my first espresso-based drink from their new coffee set up and it was superb. This is west-coast quality. Awesome flavour/acidity balance (IMO) and beautiful crema. If they can maintain the high standard, itll be a long time before theres a better cup in town.

Came in for coffee and carbs. I had the sweet cream cold brew with caramel, and let me tell you, it was amazing!! Definitely making it a regular stop! Cant wait to try more pastries!
Great bakery
My wife and I have really come to love this bakery for the tasty breads they bake. Our favourite breads are pecan raisin and chocolate cherry. Chocolate cherry goes well with tea or coffee; and pecan raisin I call a meal in itself, I just love eating it instead of a sandwich.

I just tried the multigrain sour dough bread, and the caramelized onion and smoked gouda bread - both were amazing! The customer service was excellent. I cant wait to come back to try the pastries.
One of a number of great bakers in Steinbach, this store is not to be missed. Sourdough bread of a variety of types are available along with French baguettes and a variety of sweet pastries. Not to be missed when visiting Steinbach - they also have a stall at St. Norberts Market on Saturdays.

My go to place for the best cinnamon buns, date squares, bread and the yummyest brownies. Now they ve added these delicious things. A cross between a muffin (appearance) croissant filled with this yummy goodness. I got the coffee flavoured and another to try. My goodness they were yummy. Don t miss this gem of a place. They serve coffee now too. If I could give 10 stars I would.

Worth the drive from Winnipeg. My favourites are the sourdough pizza dough, sticky buns and almond croissants. My only complaint is that they re not closer to the city.

All of their breads are delicious and the coffee and brownie ends are great too! The staff are friendly and helpful and I am impressed that they have switched from plastic bread bag clips to compostable cardboard ones. Old Church Bakery is my favourite store in Steinbach!

The best bread in Manitoba and maybe the world. Many sourdough options as well as a few yeast breads. The pastries are always made fresh and NEVER disappoint! The sticky buns with pecans are my favorite
Just to give a short story on how I found out this place. A friend of mine, asked me if I want a Cinnamon bun even though I am not really fun of it but I still said yes. Then when I ate it, it taste so good then I cant taste the cinnamon. After that I ask him where did he bought it and he said at Steinbach. I googled it and found Old Church Bakery and it was not a Cinnanon bun instead it was called Sticky bun. Me and my other friend drove 1 hour to and from just buy sticky bun with pecan. The price is very affortable and the taste was so good. Staff was so friendly. Sticky bun is their best seller. The bread was so soft and it is not that sweet. This is a must try!!!!

Quality was good this summer but now its very bad, the almond crossants that I used to buy every Saturday went down in quality, they started saving on almond paste inside, now you lucky if u see a drop of that. Stopped going there, started going to Crusty Bunns!

I love Old Church Bakery. I have yet to try an item that I did not thoroughly enjoy. The smoked Gouda bread and jalapeño cream cheese croissants are a couple of my favourite items. The staff are always very friendly and go above and beyond to make you feel welcomed.

Five stars isn t enough for this place. My favourites are the chocolate croissants and almond croissants, but truly there s nothing they make that isn t delicious.
I cannot say enough about this gem of a place! I do not buy bread anywhere else and Im stopping in at least 1 - 2 times per week regularly. Cant stay away from the sourdough muffins! Pairs well with their pour-over coffee from local businesses such as Red Lake Coffee. Coffee also comes with heavy cream which is so rich! My husband loves when I bring home a new bread flavour as a surprise although our all time go to is the sourdough whole wheat.
There is just nothing to compare with Old Church Bakery products!

Hands down favourite bread, croissants, and other pastries. Everything absolutely delicious. Worth the drive from Winnipeg, as I have done on a few occasions. Also available at the St Norberts farmers market for city folk.

Dropped into this bakery today for the first time and boy am I glad I did! Was going to just walk out with sticky buns and croissants and the women helping me insisted on trying their sourdough (even though we ve tried sourdough before from other places, it is apparently not created equal). It was truly an experience!! I m so disappointed I didn t buy out their other loaves. A fantastic experience that will see me coming back for sure!

I come from far to get bread at Old Church Bakery. I love the sourdough bread from here. The bordelaise has become a family favorite. It s a combination of sourdough and French bread. I buy multiple loaves and I freeze them to make sure I always have some on hand. I make sourdough bread at home, but you can t beat the commodity of OCB!
First time here today and we will be back for sure! Got some delicious multi grain sourdough bread & a pecan cinnamon bun that was the size of my face! The bread is unbelievably moist and that cinnamon was beyond tasty! We will be back for sure!

They are bar none the best bakery in Steinbach. Their Almond Croissants are to die for. They create each cup of coffee individually and it is wonderful. I go in once a week for our bread supplies. Always excellent service and product.
