Sadly I have to edit a review from 4 years ago. Now had my 34th birthday here ,table of 12 reservations for 645 and the server acted so annoyed that we were there. Just a miserable girl. Like lady you will clear easy $100 in tips from us yet you treat us like an inconvenience. The manager seemed nice when the food came then the server went right back to being miserable. Food was great as usual just sucked to feel pressured to leave . I get you close at 8 we left at 8:15. We will come back because we have more good experiences then bad but was a little discouraged.

When they first came to Steinbach it was 5 star easy. Food was great. The last year it has seen a drastic decline in food quality, portions, forgetting stuff on take out orders. It is very hit and miss now as to whether you will get good quality well made food and your whole order. With everything costing more and prices going up its not worth the risk to not have guaranteed quality when ordering from here anymore. Family feast deals were our go to but unfortunately they have been shrinkflationed and cost more than when they were first introduced. It will be a long while before we try them again after being burned the last few times.

Food is usually great here but the service today was so inconsistent that it really hurt our experience. We asked if we could sit out on the patio and were told by the staff at the desk you just order from the takeout window, and you can take it outside yourself. So we ordered from the takeout window and told the staff we would be eating out on the patio. They told us youll be buzzed when its ready. We went out to the patio and saw 2 people sit down and be served at the table.... Their food came out on plates and they had service the entire time, a waitress even came to check on them.. Meanwhile ALL of our food came in takeout boxes. We had to assemble our own burgers and eat out of boxes and plastic bags. They didnt even provide napkins. We were ignored by the waitresses outside as if we werent customers. Its also worth noting the girl at the takeout window was wearing her mask below her nose the entire time which kind of defeats the purpose. 4 years later, adding this review. This is the 5th time this year you guys have forgotten to put something in my online order and Im done coming here. The dine in experience is bad, the take out experience is bad, the prices are bad, the food is the only thing saving this place and when you keep missing items or getting someone elses food, whats the point. Best part of it all, the managers/owners dont care. Youre nothing to them, just another complaint and they seem to get so many theyre all just blending together.

Bigg Poutine Is utterly delicious. I could taste every Ingredient. I couldn t stop eating it. Best I ve ever had. All the staff were so efficient and friendly. Wish they had one in Gimli.

Ive been to Bigg Smoak a couple of times because I like to go swimming at the aquatic center in Steinbach, then ask my friends if they want a good restaurant. Anyways, the steak and burgers there are amazing, I couldnt recreate them if I tried! But, it smells like peanuts everywhere and the food takes a long time to get there. Other than that, Bigg Smoak is a good restaurant. My uncle likes to have the French Onion Soup, he says its pretty good.

The service was absolutely disappointing. We went there yesterday, and the server approached us at least 7-8 times to ask if we needed anything, to the point that it became quite irritating. The tone felt as if they wanted us to finish our meal as quickly as possible and leave. I understand that the restaurant was busy, but we would have appreciated the opportunity to enjoy our food at a relaxed pace.

Food was average nothing special. Service is terrible only 1 Asian server were nice. Looking at the restaurant owner reply i can see why.

Bad service

The food wasnt particularly impressive for the drive from Winnipeg. What really let me down was the waitresss attitude. It was my first time visiting, and I had no idea where to go. When I arrived, there was no one at the front desk. Only a few staff members were running back and forth between the dining hall and the kitchen. They glanced at us but quickly walked away without offering any instructions or a smile. We decided to go straight into the dining hall and encountered a waitress. She looked at us coldly, without a smile, and told us to go back outside because someone would be with us shortly. It took a while for someone to finally come over, and the attitude I received was far from friendly. Only one or two staff members smiled during our visit. It made me wonder if they were being exploited or underpaid, as it wasnt even peak hours, yet their demeanor towards customers was quite off-putting. On the positive side, the sauces were good. Would I go back? I dont think it would be worth it to drive an hour just to be treated poorly and to have unimpressive food.

Always an excellent experience, i would recommend trying the bigg smoak poutine. Ive had other menu items as well and they are all amazing. Must try and worth the drive , thanks bigg smoak for being so awesome

Another first. Simply some of the best BBQ out there! Brisket was amazing. Pulled pork was delicious. I had the Bigg Club with added brisket, and it was huge! Massive order of Tater Tots. Best of all, in house Sweet Tea! Super friendly staff! Definitely will be going back for seconds!

Food was awesome atmosphere with great servers. Were great. What an awesome place to eat?My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Always a favorite for a family outing. The food at Bigg Smoak is delicious and does not disappoint. The price per portion size is excellent and this was our first time reserving the private room and it made for an enjoyable large family dining experience to be slightly secluded from the main restaurant. Kid-friendliness: Though the kids menu does not include a wide variety of options it has enough options for our 7 kids varying tastes. Wheelchair accessibility: Unfortunately no private handicapped accessible washroom and the aisles between tables was a tight fit for my husbands wheelchair.

Been to Bigg Smoak probably 5 times now and always love the food. Its good, authentic BBQ that is hard to come by in Winnipeg, so worth the drive for me. Only thing about my last visit that was a bit different was that the host seemed to either be very new or just unprofessional. We waited for her to seat us for a few minutes even though there was no one else waiting, another worker had to remind her to pay attention. Otherwise, great visit as always.

We had a birthday party with about 40 people. The food was phenomenal, lots of all the classics. The service was also excellent. We were incredibly well taken care of and recommend them for any large gatherings you may be planning

Wow! I cannot explain how average the food was. Garlic cheese toast was prepared on a hot dog bun. Taco Salad was dry and flavourless. The country fried steak was flavourless for the first two bites, I then pulled the multiple black hairs out. I stopped eating. Fries were fine. Big Smoak burger was edible but again, dry and flavourless. Too many things on the menu. Just do something well; cut the menu down. Service was good!

Perfect dinner

My husband and I order from bigg smoak at least once a month if not once every payday. Its out meal out. We tell everyone to try it and whenever we have guests we order from here cuz they need to taste it. Not anymore. This was the last time we order from here. We always have take out just easier with our twins and 9 times out of ten they forget either the fries and or gravy. We always get the pitmaster, 3 meats, always 1 brisket and 2 pulled pork and fries and Coleslaw, with gravy on the side. Well today we ordered our regular, except the container was half the size, even over the last little while the fries shrunk in size. Usually the pulled pork is twice the size of the brisket which is 4 slices, today it was less then 1/2. My husband called and let them know the mistake and the lady said she would have it fixed and we could pick up the other order of pulled pork. 2 minutes later we get a call back saying the manager refused to fix the order saying its weighed. My husband tried to explain that its less then 1/2 what is usually is and we got a too bad. For almost $40 and we couldnt even feed ourselves full. Better to just get pizza and chicken from roccos.

I was also there for the last review. I think the most disappointing part of the fiasco was that no one apologized for their error. They ignored us and when the bill came they just shoved it on the table. They had taken 50% off but the waitress and manager were too scared to tell us? Definitely a service fail. A simple Im sorry for our error, weve taken half off of your bill could have rescued the failure. Food was subpar at best. Wont be returning any time soon.

We had Bigg Smoak cater our wedding and I just had to review them publicly because we were so incredibly happy. We stopped into the restaurant ahead of time for dinner and decided on what we wanted to serve. The team was so helpful, accommodating and omg the food was outstanding. Fresh, hot, and really impressive. We are very big smoked BBQ people and Bigg Smoak brought their A game. The portions were huge and I highly recommend their smoked brisket and ribs. Mac and cheese is also really tight. Thanks Bigg Smoak for making our special day so special!

They fixed their issue with their website showing the wrong menu with their old lower prices, but only after saying my review was bogus. I only left a bad review because we called in to ask about why the price was so high and they were rude on the phone saying it was our fault for using the wrong menu on their website. It has been fixed now, the food is pretty good here most of the time but the service has always been poor, even when they were in Grunthal.

Heard good things from people. Took a day off to try this restaurant from Winnipeg. Was disappointed. Food was mediocre and server was rude. Would not recommend this restaurant.

Had supper here twice this week. Both meals were delicious and well priced. Tonight we were on the patio and enjoyed the entertainment.

Due to lack of planning for PIONEER DAYS, the restaurant was understaffed and they ran out of half the food on the menu. The lady at the front desk was exhausted of telling each new customer the list of food no longer on the menu. There was a 45 minute to hour wait for seating, this is understandable except there still were a lot of empty tables. Finally the food came out cold. Many crowds just ordered take out and sat at the outdoor tables provided but it was a crude wind which to me would ruin a normally excellent meal. Please do better next year.

Very disappointed in my visit on August 3rd. Rushed out of work to make it there before they closed for a quick birthday dinner. Arrived at 7 and waited 15 minutes for a table. The server walks up and goes just so you know you we dont have ribs, brisket or burnt ends... What? Okay, I guess EVERYONE at the table needs to settle for something else. It is super frustrating for me as a dine in guest to be told youre out of ribs and brisket. All the while Im watching people at the walk up window walking away with huge trays of what I can only assume is bbqd meats. Why wouldnt you prioritize the the dine in guests over the take away/delivery guests? We settled for other items, then, not even 5 minutes later the server returns and tells us theyre out of Mac and Cheese, my daughter really wanted Mac and Cheese. More frustration. Food arrives, we are all about to dig in when we realize.... No cutlery. I then had to track down a server to get some for our table. After we sat down 3 more large groups arrived for dinner. Im sure there were some disappointed patrons in those groups as well. Love your food and wanted to share my experience as it was a real let down. Hoping it will be better in the future.

Ive been looking for southern bbq similar to meals that Ive had when visiting the southern USA. Bigg Smoak is the closest that Ive found. Delicious brisket, ribs and smoked meat. We ordered the poutine to share and I had the three meat selection with a loaded baked potato and coleslaw. I said it was beautiful and my wife laughed at me. I had to hide the drool as I took the pictures just before diving in. It wasnt cheap and a bit of a drive from winnipeg to steinbach but I would say definitely worth the trip.

First time trying after hearing nothing but amazing things and it definitely met my expectations. The food came out fast and service was great! We sat on the patio which was kind of enclosed but still a nice way to enjoy the weather. I wish they had more cocktail options however I did enjoy my sangria! They had the BEST garlic mashed I have ever had! And we recommend everyone tries the mac&cheese and/or the burnt ends. Can t wait to come back!

Bbq perfection

Detoured here on our way back to Winnipeg, read good reviews so decided to check the place out. Right off the bat there was a que at the reception, there were a lot of empty tables but we were told they were full and wait time will be 30-45 mins at the main dining or 15 mins at the patio so we opted for the patio. 45 mins later we were told the main dining had vacant tables. Went in and ordered the Pitmaster to share with the wife, did not expect the portion size was meant for one person but good enough to sample it. Ribs were good not wow but was good, brisket was ok but bland, pulled pork was dry, bland and really needs the sauce. felt like a chore eating it and I we did not finish it, should have opted for burnt ends instead? They had various sauces, not much distinction between them as they are all very sweet. The mac n cheese were very good and the best thing on the plate was the mashed potatoes which were creamy and seasoned perfectly. The sides saved this dining experience for us. Worst thing is the service, felt like we were not supposed to be there. I would probably visit again if an opportunity presents itself hoping it was just a bad day in the kitchen. I went out of my way to try this with one of my kids. We ordered the platter for 2. The ribs were ok. Pulled pork had a hunk of inedible crust on it. The chicken thy was so underdone that I couldnt get the meat off the bone. The brisket was cold and there were only 2 small pieces each. The macaroni and cheese tasted mouldy(not an old cheese taste). Maybe it was an off day. I felt like I was picking at leftovers. Im not going to return or recommend it.

Felt like I was in Texas BBQ house!

If I could give the atmosphere zero, I would. We had a 10 week old puppy with us and got kicked off the patio in the rain. They allowed up to order food inside the restaurant with the puppy present ,then proceeded to kick us out. Never in my life have i ever been kicked off a PATIO with a dog. Or witnessed it. We were also kicked off the first table we choose on the patio. Poor service. Im certain Smoaks started out with a food truck 10 years ago. Ive been waiting that long to go. Yes for the food. The restaurant, I will not recommend. We called in advance to make sure we would get served because we had ppl come from Ontario. They would not guarantee us a table because only groups of 8 can reserve. Thanks for making us eat in the rain.

I stopped by big smoaks on my way to a job site and one of the other workers suggested it. I really wanted to see how this smoke house compares to the once we ate at down south. The sandwich was ok but I found the value was definitely missing. Lots of bread. The salad I am sure would have been good but it was very difficult and unappetizing trying to turn salad Into finger food. Not even a toothpick to eat it with. Almost $45 we ll wasted.

Waiting 45 minutes for the bigg poutine . Each table got their food before we did and we were seated first. Wasn t busy what so ever. Not happy

Hubby treated us out while being in town && this place was great! Waitress was fast, attentive and polite ++ the food was amazing, took home left overs as it was so filling. We will come back with the parents, pricing is awesome! (Told our waitress it was even better than Famous Daves in Wpg.) The plate they used for my mac and cheese brisket could have been bigger (it was a medium sized plate) but other than that, no complaints!!

We were quite disappointed! We ordered the special, which was a hamburger steak, but we received a stuffed potato with a Ceasar salad. When I asked what we were eating because I didnt think that this was what I had ordered, she said there is beef in there. They reduced the price by $1.50. Wow! We went for Mother s Day which I understand would be busy . We waited for an hour and 20 min then our server was wearing a tank top with his armpits fully exposed hanging his armpit hair over our food and near us while reaching across the table to hand us stuff . Absolutely disgusting to see. The food was good minus the white bread which was dry and in my option gross buns would have been so much better. I think having servers being sleeveless is fine but groom yourself if you want to be without sleeves

We ordered the full sized family feast and it was amazing! The food was delicious and the portions were perfect for 6 adults. I ordered for pickup an hour before and it was on time. Had a great experience and would definitely recommend and order again.

Always a treat to come here. The service and food is excellent. Friday night is always packed and you can only reserve for parties of 10 plus I think. (Maybe 8). Larger groups are required to give a 15% gratuity. Its not a quiet place, always bustling and lots of people noise, so if you like quiet and private, this is not the place. The brisket, chicken and pork dishes are amazing. Enjoyed the BBQ bowl and Pork brisket with mushrooms. The portions are large and satisfying. Hats off to the cooks!! Its no wonder there are numerous awards posted on the wall. Highly recommend!!

February 22 2024 Called Wednesday to see if we needed a reservation for two for a birthday dinner and had a very pleasant person who said no reservation required as we were to arrive for 5 p. Thursday. Was asked something about cow bells and brownies of which did not know what was meant by that comment but replied we are coming out for a good time and see you then. We arrived at 4:45 and were met by a Hostess at the front as she looked at us without saying anything but we heard her say I guess this is you and said this way. Followed her to the dining room all tables empty but one with 3 people at it. We followed her alone a row of red booths with 3 or 4 occupied and she took us to the end one. I sat down and stuck to the seat got up to see the seat in terrible shape must have been a big hole about 12 X !2 of dirty tape. Call the same lady over to tell her I was not sitting on that sticky tape and asked to sit at a table. She ten took the menus to a table did not say say thing but walked away. My wife said is that where we are to sit so we did. She then came over took our order .We were impressed with the Brisket, Coleslaw, Baked potato. Corn Bread. DISSAPOINTED in the Pulled Pork looked like it was compressed in a bowl and very stringy. Then came the RIBS looked good till you tried to eat them. Turned them over and they were grey as the silver skin was not removed and stuck to the bone also the bone was pinky red. Called the same waitress over showed her and she took a fork and started poking at it and said yes it looks like it is over done, I will take it to the kitchen and tell them something is wrong with the Ribs. Well she left and did not come back. We were not asked if we wanted coffee or dessert .We waited then decided to leave. Waited at the counter to pay our bill. Paid our bill and ended up at TIMMS FOR COFFEE AND DESSERT and this was a 83rd birthday gone south!!!!!!!!!!! Would we drive an hour and pass a 100 restaurants to get this type of service..............NOT LIKELY

The food was amazing, service was also on point, took some for leftovers!

We really enjoyed our meals. Their price is much better compared to Winnipeg for the same type of food. We tried their ribs, beef brisket and pulled pork and will come back to try the steaks and other items. The service was good and fast too. Nothing to complain honestly. P.s: Ask for their corn bread and honey butter, very worth to try! Update: came back for their steak. Not that great.

Been dying to go there for a bit and finally had the chance to! We chose the Burned Ends and the Bigg Q. I must say that my favourite out of everything was the burned ends. Had a lot of flavour and just shredded up so easily. I think the ribs could ve been a little saucier and the brisket was a little dry but I ll say it was an anomaly and I ll probably come back and try more of their other meats.

Food tasted good, no huge wait when we went (a Saturday around 1ish). Our waitress was sweet but she definitely forgot to ask us how we wanted our steak cooked for the steak sandwiches (we were a group of 4 and 2 of us got the Sammies). We didnt really mind too much because we were hungry and didnt want to cause a scene. Sometimes things happen oh well. We definitely didnt enjoy being in the back room. It was eerily quiet and the TV was on, but the cable box wasnt. No music or anything. The restaurant wasnt busy so Im not sure why we were placed back there. Without a doubt, the food was delicious but I do find it strange that they charge $15 for a burger and it doesnt come with a side. Not sure if those prices are comparable to other places or not but then they charge you an extra $5 for a side. Be prepared to spend around $20-$30 a head if youre gonna go. Overall, 3/5. Would probably go again.

We had supper there this week with a large group. Ribs were excellent. Tender and flavorful. Chicken wasnt very hot so obviously not fresh. The salad, mac&ch and potato salad were ok. No complaints from the rest of the group. No rave reviews though either. Service was excellent. Food came out in a timely fashion and we were all served within a few minutes of each other. So excellent, the food is fantastic. Come and enjoy the great food, the array of delicious homemade sauces on the table that kick up the favour. Great service, reasonable prices which is so important, especially when it s hard to get value for your dining out dollar. Big Smoak is worth visiting, it s the only place on our dining out calendar where we get to at least a couple times a month. Our thanks to the management and staff for an excellent dining experience. Great place to have a meal. Unique layout and design of the restaurant. Great food at a great price. I recommend trying all their BBQ sauces that they have on their tables.

We had looked forward to trying Bigg Smoak based on the overall good reviews but our experience was terrible. Once we were seated, our server took our drink order relatively quickly but it all fell apart after that. My wife decided to order a dessert first. Our server left and then we didn t see her or anyone else for at least 30 minutes. I had to flag down another server to ask about ordering. She left to get our server, but instead we got the host who seemed diligent if slow about writing down our order. I also asked if he could check on the dessert order. More time passed seen without food nor a server return to our table. I again flagged someone to ask for a manager. By this point I had noticed several tables that were seated after us already nearing completion of their meal. When the manager didn t respond I went to the front to ask for them. When I tried to explain our issue with the very poor service she rudely interrupted me and said something about reviewing the security tape to see when we d been seated, that was a first. She also said something about the dessert order being confusing so nothing was done with it. I said that I hoped she would make things right and I got a curt what do you want. I said a discount would be a good start. After returning to our table, the dessert and food was finally brought out, but parts of the order were wrong. Our new server at that point, Gabbie, was very courteous and the only one that apologized for the poor service. Eventually the manager came but only to ask how the bill was being split . When I tried to say something she talked over me to ask how the bill was being split. She walked away and eventually came back to say that she s applied a 25% discount on food but couldn t discount drinks. Out of a bill of about $120 that amounted to maybe $20 so at best we received an overall discount of 10%. At no point did the manager acknowledge or apologize for the service, clearly it was inconvenient for to have to address us. The food itself was okay, but by the time it came we were so frustrated that it was hard to be impartial about it. We will definitely not go back.

Now I eat alot or ribs. And im willing to say that those were the best Ive ever had. Service was pretty bad tho. But that could just be the server I got.

Don t bother with this place, 3rd time I ve given them a chance on takeout and again the order was missing items and the meat was poor quality. Those who have been fortunate enough to try real bbq down south wouldn t feed this to their dog. With how the owner responds to reviews I d rather starve than eat here.

Visited this weekend. Their meat is not the best. Dont waste time coming from winnipeg. Rudest owners ever. Waitresses have snobby attitudes. And yes after reading their other reviews I also will be attacked for expressing my opinion.

Great place to go in Steinbach. It is a bit noisy and crowded at times and sometimes you have to wait for a table. As for food - its great, but definitely not the cheapest place to eat. Its worth it.

We went there for birthday celebrations for two of my family members. I picked up smoking as my covid hobby and after being disappointed with franchises like Famous Daves, this place hit the spot. The quality is great and the flavor is exceptional. Its worth the trip to Steinbach.

We always try to stop here when we come from out of province. This place has a feeling of home with the best southern bbq around. We have never had a negative experience, service is friendly and food comes out hot and fresh.

We ve always had great food and good experiences here! Sure, like any business, they have some off days (very very few). But they truly care about their business and the food and people!

In the summer i drive from Winnipeg to Steinbach every Sunday for their BBQ. In the winter one or twice a month. Always ALWAYS terrific. The food is amazing and the staff are so friendly and polite. They are run off their feet often and maintain their level of service. Every single person i recommended to them has raved about them and thanked me. Brisket and ribs are incredible. BBQ done right!!

My absolute favorite bbq restaurant in mb, always super happy when i go Everything from the burnt ends to the amazing corn bread. Also obsessed with the retail freezer. Cant miss, simply the best.

Their food is fantastic. I do wish there was a gluten friendly bun option, as currently if you d like to order a gluten free version of one of their sandwiches, you get literally just the meat. Which is delicious, btw, just wish I could eat it as a sandwich lol. Otherwise they have plenty of gluten-free meat and sauce options so my go-to is usually something like the Pitmaster (without cornbread as there is no gluten free corn bread option; would be nice if there were a substitution available) so I can have leftovers. Their potato salad is the best in town, too.

My opinion but Bigg Smoak is the best BBQ in Manitoba. From the food, to the staff, to the service and the wicked cool restaurant location this place is top notch!! Try the BBQ Bowl you won t be disappointed!!

Food has always been great and great service.

Called on Monday to reserve the private room for a company Christmas dinner. Was told on the phone it s available, we booked it and were told a 18 percent gratuity will be added to the bill which we were happy to pay. Upon arrival the hostess was confused as our reservation was not booked. They forgot. Our group of 20 waited and where put in the middle of dinning room. The private room was double booked. The food was very good but very disappointed with the lack of organization.

If you want to TRULY experience BBQ this is the ONLY place to go !!! Outstanding food, flavor, portions etc... 100% recommend BIGG SMOAK BBQ !!!! Id give 10 stars if I could.
