Sorrento Restaurant...a taste of Italy in Stratford-upon-Avon

We were so looking forward to coming back here we visit every time we re in Stratford and have always had a great evening and meal.. unfortunately not this time the food really was not up to its usual standard the veal was tough my husband left most of it and the scampi provencal was also not good such a shame when the staff asked if everything was okay and we told them they were very dismissive to the point of being rude..would never go back or recommend as we have done to many people in the past.The only thing that was the same was the very expensive bill.. you don t mind that if it is perfect but this was not.

I highly recommend this Italian restaurant, the food was amazing and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Prices were very reasonable.

Sorrentos is a real Italian experience, with a large and varied menu, supplemented by daily specials. Portions are generous; the food is always perfectly cooked, and service is as fast or slow as you desire. It is not a large space [about 30 covers] and is very popular, so you should book ahead, especially for Friday ans Saturday nights, when even a weeks notice might not be long enough in advance. We love it, and gladly travel 15 or so miles to be there!

Really need another star! Wonderful staff who fitted us in on a Friday night in the beautiful rear patio area. Everything was delicious but the Dover Sole was out of this world. Very generous portions, everything perfectly cooked. Only problem was we ate it all and had no room for pudding!!! Ah well, well just have to come back again

A nice place with good food but fell short of being superb, especially for the price. The decor is a little dated/cliché and could do with an update. Service was good.

I cant really comment on the food and service as we didnt dine here, for the simple reason that they did not have menus displayed outside. The only ones in the window were the early one finished before we got there and a very expensive special menu. Im not happy to go into a restaurant without being able to see the choice of food and prices beforehand.

My wife booked a table for my birthday. The meal, service and atmosphere were excellent. I last dined at Sorrento many years ago and enjoyed the same level of service and dining experience as this last visit. Sorrento has maintained the taste of Italy throughout the years. A very memorable evening and one that I shall revisit in the near future. Although I am wary about recommending anywhere as circumstances and management can change, but in this occasion I would strongly recommend Sorrento for a special occasion.

I discovered this restaurant just before their winter holiday and I have been counting down the days until they reopened. I love everything about this place, the food is heavenly, the staff are polite and it feels like truly authentic. I came back opening night for their seafood linguini and I will be returning very very soon!

Excellent food. It was hot and sunny so we could sit outside in their dining area at the back of the restaurant. Very nice. The internal dining area looks rather dark and may not be to everyones taste.

The ladies made a fuss of our son. Good deals with the set menu, and good quality food in general. Kid-friendliness: There isnt an actual kiddy menu, but they can make smaller portions of whats on the regular menu.

Lovely resteraunt, had my favourite Arrabbiata, excellent. Had Olives for £4.00, nice but not worth it.

Amazing as always

Beautiful fresh pasta and fish dishes

We phoned the restaurant to advise we were running late by five minutes, and when we arrived we were taken straight to outperform table of six. Everything was going swimmingly until we were asked to leave our table before ordering deserts. The reason given was that all restaurants in Stratford has a 2 hour policy as the table is booked out again. The request to leave the table and order desert was ahead of the 2 hours by fifteen minutes, and were told to order deserts and eat them in the front lounge, which we declined. We expressed our disappointment, and due to the fact the head waiter (owners were to afraid) to address this matter, I feel that if we were not the burley guy s with their partners, the staff would have taken this outside to settle. Never again shall we visit this restaurant as locals, and I can assure you if you upset the staff and cannot handle yourself, you will be confronted and intimidated in front of guests.

If authentic Italian is what you want then look no further. Highly recommended.

A seemingly small family run restaurant in a side street of Stratclgord Upon Avon. Deceptively large inside with a rear garden. Friendly helpful staff. Food really tastey and reasonably priced. Would recommend to anyone.

What a superb restuarant by far the best place to eat in Stratford upon Avon the food was excellent fantastic staff it was every bit as good as the top restuarants in Taormina which is our favourite holiday venue well done I can highly recommend it 10 out of 10 see u again.

My new favourite place, This is stratfords hidden gem, Not only is it a beautiful Italian restaurant with a lovely hidden authentic Italian feel courtyard the staff who are all family were just perfect friendly attentive and a real pleasure to interact with, firstly we arrived a little early and the heat was too much but we were invited inside to have drinks, my husband wanted lobster thermidor which wasnt on the menu but the chef was happy to make it him and I have to say it was the best weve had and weve had a lot I had the lobster linguine topped with huge prawns and King prawns and lobster tail it was literally like a work of art and so tasty we had bread and olives the bread tasted like it had just come out a warm oven.. and a chilled bottle of wine, The price was good and wed of paid a lot more and we have for a lot less, all in all 5 stars go you wont be disappointed we are real foodies and have eaten at restaurants all over the UK this place is worth every penny, 5 stars

The reviews are not an exaggeration. Had a meal early evening. Lovely calm atmosphere, convivial but not loud or intrusive. Attentive, high quality service. Food was outstanding. Clean, fresh, tasty, balanced flavours complimenting the main dish component in every case. Wine selection was perfect, as advised by the waitress. All finished off by three scoops of gelato of the highest quality. Did not want the meal to end.

Had black linguine it was amazing; inside looks traditional cosy and the garden is beautiful . Possibly not so child friendly more of a couples old timers hangout.

Very good food friendly staff

We had the most fabulous lunch here this week. The setting is chic and has a subtle upmarket feel about it but not at all stuffy. The service was delivered smoothly and with lots of smiles and heart. As for the food, my goodness - absolutely delicious. Highly recommend - you won t regret it.

I would have awarded zero stars but minimum is one. How incredibly disappointing! My wife booked this for a big birthday only to discover I couldnt have my steak cooked to my taste (well done!). Yes there is mention of this on the website but NEVER in many trips to Europe, USA, Australia etc etc, have we ever been greeted by sorry chef wont cook it like that. What an utterly arrogant restaurant. We decided to stay and ordered scallops to start - COLD in the centre! I ordered a beef (in random sauce special for main) and my wife ordered the fillet steak....... it arrived, ironically cooked as how Id asked!!! To summarise, the chef has a real issue with cooking steak. To add to a disastrous experience, 2 fellow diners left the restaurant for a cigarette and left the door open. My wife closed the door, to be greeted by the waitress with we leave the door open for the smokers. We were freezing, they were able to open the door from the outside???????? A handsome sum of money paid for average wine, cold scallops and what can only be described as a tombola of steak dishes. In a local pub now with a bag of crisps!!!!

Very Disappointing We were really looking forward to visiting Sorrento again following initial lockdown. Chosen from menu on line , to find when we arrived, the menu was not the same ! I then chose Bruschetta, covered in tomatoes, which were very nice but no other taste. I then chose Hake which came with new potatoes, I asked if I could change the new potatoes for Dauphinoise I was told by the waitress, no as that is how it comes. In my mind that means the meal is already prepared?But surely any decent Chef , who is supposedly cooking fresh could of facilitated my request.However, it came as described and had no taste at all.Thw waitress did ask if our meals were alright, I replied , it s ok. Left the majority of it. Then still feeling hungry , we ordered Tiramisu, no better than Sainsburys. Following this we went to pay, £95 in total, when asked if we wanted to leave a gratuity, I said no. At that point I said the meal was not as good as it used to be and was disappointing, the receptionist, then became argumentative and intimidating, saying, I d told the waitress fine, she d checked my plate and I d eaten it!At this point we were surrounded by a male kitchen worker and a waitress who all appeared to want an argument and intimidate me further. We paid and went to the door, the woman, receptionist, followed us to the door, commenting and attempting to be antagonistic. Unfortunately her attempts did not work on me. As you can probably tell we will not be returning and will not be recommending.

My food was fine on 08.12.21, I had minestrone soup followed by tagliatelle which was fine. My wife had bruschetta which was fine, after that things were not so good. My wife wanted the Hake but without new potatoes and dauphinoise instead, she was advised that that the Hake came only with new potatoes; which seemed a little odd. Could the chef not cook fish without new potatoes? The waitress asked if everything was good, my wife said it was ok. When we went to pay my wife told the lady on the desk she was not happy with her meal after we were asked if we would like to leave a gratuity; which weas declined, she then became very defensive and somewhat aggressive because of the complaint about the food by my wife. Our tip would be have a chef who knows how to cook items separately and not pre cook items then warm them up later. A male member of staff became involved, it seems that everyone inspected our plates when we completed our courses and then they ganged up on my wife, the most annoying was the male member of staff, he was quite happy to have a strong disagreement with a pensioner aged female customer, which was very masculine indeed. My wife was then followed to the front door by the lady on the desk who was at minimum over assertive and borderline abusive and not setting a good example of the restaurant. Fortunately I have recorded it all on video and audio it will be going on YouTube, Instagram and Twitter.

The place could do with a total make over and it s a bit of a tourist trap if I m honest. Mouldy awnings and a roughly mannered female front of house, expensive drinks which do not have refined settings to compliment the prices.. Food was ok. Kids meals were the best part. Steak not great and it didn t come with so much as a mushroom at £20+ for a ribeye, I d expect a mushroom. Steak came swimming in oil. I did mention it but I was ignored by aforementioned front of house. We queried the bill after a meal that was so so. We dined at 6.30. The woman in question said to me, I ve managed to get rid of all the pre theatre ones. They re all being chucked out so we can seat you . To be clear, earlier I asked if I could move our reservation from 7.00pm - 6.30pm and we were told we could come earlier and just try our luck. However, I did not think we would be greeted in such a common manner. Talk about rough! So, when we queried the drinks bill it got really embarrassing. Bear in mind this place has every other wall hung lampshade knocked off its shoulders, paint is coming off the walls and it needs a total make over so when you re charged £3.20 for a Diet Coke and £6.75 for a small bottle of Peroni well, you have to question it when you re in the setting you re in. Rome this place is not. It would settle quite well in Skeg-Vegas. They charged me £2.50 for a soda top to a single glass of wine. Apparently I had asked for a dash more which warranted a further £2.50. At no point was I told every dash on ONE glass of wine was going to cost me a Fever Tree bottle @£2.50 a go. Honestly, after seeing all the mould on the outside awnings we tried to change our reservation. It was Saturday night with kids at 6.30. We had no choice. So, this is where we get really Skeggy-fied. We question the bill. The British lady comes over with a huge calculator out of the 1980 s with a huge paper till receipt and goes through the bill, smacking at the keys as she goes. The Italian waitress apologised and cringed throughout the whole process of dealing with her British counterpart. She understood and looked a little sad and gutted.

What can I say but great food. Was fully booked when we arrived but managed to get a table outside which was lovely with the sun. We also kept seeing a Robin whilst outside which was added to the atmosphere. The Ameretto Sponge Cake was the highlight of the meal just wished the slice was bigger, yummy. Cocktails were really nice where they all were based on a theme of Prosecco or champagne. If you like your wines well there were three pages on the menu, wine lovers would be spoilt for choice.

Most recent visit August 2020. This is my favourite restaurant and have been visiting it for many years. If there were 6 stars to give, Id give 6 stars! Excellent service, food is delicious, although suspect menu pared down slightly due to covid restrictions. A great example of how to manage covid compliance without losing ambiance, quality and style. We had as always, a fantastic meal, great service and lovely evening.

A very nice hotel in a great spot 10 mins from the centre. Service from staff was superb but rooms could have been cleaner. We were moved out of first room as shower was filthy only to find that in second room that the sink was blocked. Only found out in evening when getting ready for bed but No maintenance was on Hand the entire weekend to fix. Found this to be quite poor and not worthy of a four star rating.

Dont you hate a restaurant that gives you a menu and there are things not available. We also asked for the fish platter thats a photo on their page, no not available its a picture only, we then asked for calamari , again not available. Come on guys its a saturday night ffs.

Fantastic little Italian restaraunt tucked away down a side street in stratford upon avon , really top notch cusine not too pricey either for the great food offerd. Atmosphere and where it is great for larger groups as reataraunt has two parts to it or for a romantic meal . They make you feel very welcome no snobbery at all . Restaraunt is like a tardis looks small on outside but gets bigger as you go in great decor and furniture really comfortable place , worth a visit if you are in Stratford upon Avon

Excellent service and food

The staff and helpful and knowledgeable but best of all the food is amazing. My husband called to make our reservation and briefly mentioned it was our anniversary and we wanted lobster. When we arrived the staff wished us a happy anniversary and the chef had made sure he kept 2 lobsters for us. Excellent service.

Went to sorrentos tonight was rushed from start to finish from getting in the place to getting out was less than a an hour food OK some of the service poor. Especially when we left. No thank you or good bye. Just wanted the money will not be visiting again
