We are there. Weve stayed there. Im talking about the food. Its not good. The steak was thin and lacked seasoning. We got it with sides but it just lacked any pizazz at all. Very disappointed in the meal and wishing wed gone elsewhere. Food and drinks: Lacked any sort of typical flavour or impressivenesss

Very central location. Rooms were very neat and clean! Our room was directly over the bar and it was very quiet after 11pm. We liked the rooms and this is one of our new favourites!

My two companions and I were very disappointed as our meals were barely warm, arriving after a lengthy wait.

We ate here before the show which was literally across the road! The food was awesome and so was our waitress. However the kitchen was SLOW!! We waited 50 minutes for our lunch...good thing we left ourselves plenty of time... it was very disappointing to wait so long, especially considering that many of the diners were going to the Theatre across the road.

So here is the real deal about this joint. My brother & wife, well healed and quite well-to-do retirees, who travel the entire world several times a year, no strangers to the hospitality business; get scammed into entering Fosters restaurant by a false advertisement, or, an advertisement still roaming online, but not honored. Fine, they didnt honor the deal that brought them in. To add insult to injury, the almost 70 something couple order the more pricier items on the menu and why not, they can afford it. The steak comes out of the kitchen cooked like a leather shoe! Completely tough and tasteless. They ask for the manager. Some really young punk, purporting to be extremely experienced and knowledgable and who said he was the general manager, told them, the steak was cooked to perfection and if they dont like it, they can leave! Really Mister Craig Foster (owner of this tourist trap of a joint)? Is this your hospitality? I bet you any money your steaks come in frozen from the distributor. Thats right, frozen, hence; cooked to perfection as your boy-wonder stated. And the punk (general manager) working for you? Really, Mister Foster? Send the punk to Toronto and let him tell me that; well if you dont like it, you can leave. And thats after they are forced to pay mind you. I suppose in the great town of Stratford, this is the ultimate in Canadian hospitality! No thank you Mister Foster, your guests would all be better served to get up and leave and for those who wrote and gave you five stars, well, maybe Stratford is the most expensive place they have ever been and find it all that. STRATFORD SHOULD BE ASHAMED TO HAVE SUCH A PROPRIETOR in its midst.

Fosters Inn is located just a few blocks off the main strip. We had a delicious dinner here with really friendly and patient service. Would definitely return/recommend this gem to anyone looking for a lovely dining experience!

We had reservations for noon and a show at the Avon theatre at 2:00pm so we thought we could have a leisurely lunch before La Cage aux Folles. This is our first time here as we are from out of town. We ordered favourites ..eggs Benedict and Juevos Ranchero. Coffee was good and Suzie, our server, was lovely and enthusiastic. The restaurant was busy but not full. We watched people who came in after us eat and leave....to make a long story shirt we waited 75 minutes for our food. My eggs Benedict was cold but my husbands was hot and the best he has had. Suzie explained that because our food was freshly made it took longer. To be fair they took $20.00 off of our bill. We did have to rush eating and our experience was not what we had anticipated.

We had our dinner here. Nice place, friendly wait staff. Our meals were nicely plated, the food was very good!!

Rena took great care of us, even though we were not her table. When an item was overlooked, she was happy to get it for us. She came back to check in on us, and complimented about how cute our baby was. Rena the waitress should get a raise. She made our experience fantastic!

Sunday brunch, very yummy!

Very nostalgic old inn and restaurant in the heart of Stratford. We spent a night here to relax and unwind. Perfect choice... Craig and his crew were very accommodating and friendly. Loved everything about this place and hope to come back in the summer. Rooms: Older building with renovated rooms with lots of space. Very comfy bed and lots of amenities. There is an elevator at the rear that makes getting up and down a breeze. Cozy pub inside next to the restaurant where you can chill at the bar or in the lounge area. Walkability: No issues for us but may be a little awkward for mobility challenged guests. Parking is a 5 minute walk away down the street. Elevator at the rear helps to get to upper floors though Food and drinks: Lots of great choices for beverages at the pub. Restaurant meals were superb and very tasty. First class all the way. Service was over the top! Noteworthy details: The Inn is very close to lots of activities, shops and sights. We visited during off-season, but perfect spot for when things take off.

Cozy place for a quiet night, relaxed atmosphere. Love the salmon here, however the risotto in the squash was not so great.

There s a reason Foster s is a staple in Stratford. My partner and I visited in from out of town. We dined at the restaurant and stayed overnight at the inn. The restaurant has a large menu- we had dinner but I believe they also have a brunch. Our dinner was delicious- large portions and good options. I also really liked the drinks- the corpse reviver was a favourite. Our server was lovely, checking in to make sure everything tasted good. The inn itself is a beautiful building. The rooms in the inn have high ceilings, king sized beds and a sizeable washroom with a bath tub. There was a small fridge as well should you have any food or drink you need to keep with you. Location wise- staying at the inn is ideal. It s right downtown! The theatre is very close by as well as a number of lovely stores. Only positive things to say!

Just passed through town late at night and looked for some place to eat, and this restaurant caught our attentions. Gotta say, not very impress with the food quality there. Service was okay and the drinks weren t too bad. Service : 4/5

Food and drinks: Went for Valentines Day meal. Had their sirloin steak which is supposed to be their specialty. Cooked okay but it was pretty tough for $42. I honestly should have sent it back but I dont like doing that at restaurants. I usually just dont go back. It is one of my favourite places to have lunch at but Im starting to think there is a downward trend happening with their food. Not sure Id take the risk of having dinner there again but I will give lunch another try. We shall see how it goes...

Didnt stay at hotel . Party of 4 for dining in restaurant in Dec 2022 . WAITRESS was probably the most knowledgeable and personable fun waitress we have ever encountered. She was amazing. Great atmosphere, only complaint with food was my 44 dollar steak was supposed to be medium it came burnt and charred . So sent back ..They cooked another one ..got it by the time my other guests were ready to leave...It again came back really burnt ..sent back again..unedible . Received a free meal for my next visit and they took it off the bill...Would definetly go back its a great place I just cant recommend the steak and whoever is doing the grilling. Mind you its a great restaurant so dont let my review scare you away as they have many awesome meals on the menu you will love.

Delicious Sunday brunch.

We just stopped in for a tea during the busy supper hour. They accommodated us just the same as if we were there for a big meal. We didnt feel we needed to rush out because we werent there for a meal. Well be back another time for a meal, or another beverage some time for sure. They also bring in live entertainment from time to time! Give this establishment a try.

Easter Sunday brunch was excellent. We grabbed the crossword from the hotel lobby (it was as nice to be able to read a tangible newspaper!!!) and ordered bottomless coffees, eggs benny and french toast. Everything was delicious and the waitresses were super accommodating.

Food and drinks: Went for lunch today...4 people. After 1 HOUR no food only a drink. After about 1hr 10 minutes waitress appeared saying our order was up soon Finally....it arrives. DRY chicken in the wrap and the exact same chicken in the rice bowl. Lamb burger was waiting for at least 5 minutes before service on the counter so didnt expect much however it was good. Waitress thanked us for our patience which was very thin by then. We have been to Fosters many times...this was a DISASTER. SHOULD HAVE BEEN COMPD.

We celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary at Fosters Inn Restaurant. Our dining experience was superb. Not too busy at the time we dined (5:30 p.m.). The ambiance and artwork created a most pleasurable backdrop. Susie, our server, was skillful and attentive. The food was probably the best weve tasted in a long time, I ordered the pork tenderloin, and my wife enjoyed her vegetable chow mien. The ingredients were fresh, the food cooked to perfection, and our dessert was a beautifully decorated cup of lemon custard with berries and a vanilla cookie. We highly recommend this restaurant. A gem of Stratford cuisine.

Came here for lunch today, it was amazing! We ordered the Grilled Cheese and the Ham Sandwich. We loved both! We got a beer and Caesar too. Only complaint is that the Caesar was 11.50$ for a tiny little wine glass of it. We will be back!

This place was recommended to us as a good place to go before our tickets for the Avon theatre. We arrived for our Fathers Day reservation at noon and the place was busy but not full. There were five of us. The hostess was kind enough to bring us water when she saw that after 10 minutes no one had come to see us. The waitress showed up around 12:15 and seemed nice enough; however with a 2 PM show, we never expected to be receiving our food at 1:20 PM. We were there for Sunday brunch and were surprised to find out that they ran out of hollandaise so no benedicts. What is brunch without benedicts you ask? Lunch. In any event, we would have been happy enough if our food did not take over an hour. Also: - the home fries were either cooked but cold (the smaller pieces), or undercooked (anything closer to 1 inch cubes or larger). - the french fries were soaked in grease and also undercooked. -the bun for the sandwiches was burnt. On the plus side: -the French toast was good if not somewhat small (two half slices or one piece total). - the mushroom caramelized onion and swiss omelette was pretty good and the toasted baguette was also nicely done. - LOVE the B52 coffee, and pineapple juice but for the cost of the juice, its a small portion. One can wonder why we were the ONLY table that were not served after an hour. Could it be that we did not look like anyone else in the restaurant? We had two white folks, a Latino, a southeast Asian and a lighter brown skinned individual. Well that would be cynical. But not untrue since there were no other ethnically diverse individuals to be found in the place. But the following facts exist: - every table inside the restaurant turned over once if not twice before we were served. The two tables beside us came well after us, ate and one table for two left before we even got our food. - the patio was a similar story- not full but not crazy. - we were sitting facing the kitchen and could see the food coming up. The waitress told us at 1 PM it would be up next, but it took another 20 minutes. - management did not come over to speak to us. The waitress offered us a free refill coffee for the B52 mug which was nice but only necessary because our food was so late. This was a very BAD start to Fathers Day. The server was good, she tried very hard to make up for the kitchen which seemed chaotic. Our food took over 2 hours to arrive and when it did 4/5 steaks were not cooked properly. Some extremely rare and others well done. We saw people come in, sit down and get their food before us. For a place that promotes their steaks we expected better. Would not return again.

We (group of 4) got a seat on the patio after telling the manager we were sitting out there. After 30 mins we went in and got our own menus. After 45 mins I went in and asked if anyone was going to wait on us. Another 10 mins and we finally get our drink order in but the waiter didnt want to take our dinner order. Got our drinks, gave our food order, including an appetizer, and about 45 mins later our meals come out but never got our appetizer. We needed more drinks and the waiter didnt even ask us we finally got his attention and got more drinks. Yes it was busy on a week night but it is theatre season so that should be expected. In saying all of this, the food we did get was amazing!

Had lunch reservations for noon on Sunday before a 2pm show. Pleasant server, got our drinks and placed our order. The server never came to check on our drinks again. Waited an hour for our food. Felt like our order was misplaced. Food was decent, but service was inattentive.

We had an absolutely horrible meal. First, we had to wait over an hour after ordering to receive our meals which were completely flavorless, dry and disappointing in every respect. Dined at the restaurant on October 4th, 2023. The staff was very accommodating as we did not have a reservation on arrival. Our server Angela was fantastic, very knowledgeable and helpful with suggestions as it was our first time dining here. Food presentation and quality was superb. Truly one of the best meals I have enjoyed in a while. Would definitely go back and highly recommend as a go to dining experience. Bonus it is practically next door to the Avon Theater were we attended after our fabulous meal. Well done staff and chefs.

Fabulous food!!

Out 1st & last visit to Fosters, we were hoping for a quality meal with a nice atmosphere for valentines night but was completely underwhelmed. We had the patè to start & it was more mousse like & quite tasteless but had a very bitter topping to it. We both then ordered a steak with vegetables & new potatoes roasted with herbs, my husband added onion rings & I added mushrooms. When the meals arrived my husbands had a spoonful of caramelized onion, so he said he asked for onion rings - the waiter arranged for them straight away & they came very quickly but only 3 rings arrived so thats a $ a ring - the steak was just okay, some seasoning wouldve been good, the vegetables were very undercooked & the herbed potatoes were totally without any herbs, everything was so tastless - other than the sauce on the plate. Not the experience we were hoping for, this is an expensive dining option without the food to match the prices.

My wife asked for a veggie wrap and received a chicken wrap. Not good. Overall it wasnt a great experience, for me.

The food and service was good, but too expensive for the amount of food you got on your plate. The food was cooked well and tasted delicious; however, paying over $7.00 for a coffee that really wasn t the best and through us off. They are cheap and should not be so stingy with what they put on the plate given the price you pay. Staff was very friendly and did a great job, so to the owners of Foster s pay your hard working staff more because people don t want to over pay you for what you serve and customers don t want to fork more money out for a tip to your servers. Learn a few great traits from the Gilly s across the street, there, customers are so happy because they know people are hungry, much more reasonable in price for a lot more food and servers enjoy their jobs and get better tips, we will return to Gilly s and not go to Foster s again for food!

My mom and I went to Fosters Inn restaurant for breakfast. We are staying at the Mercer Hotel and the receptionist recommended Fosters for a good breakfast. So we walked over. The man at the door told us to go take a seat so we did. We walked past what looked like the only waitress working and took a seat. We expected her to come right over with the menu considering we were only one of two tables and she wasn t doing anything. But instead, it took about 5 minutes before we even got a menu. And when she finally came over, instead of being polite and friendly, she sat the menus on the table and said any coffee? with a straight face. No greeting or anything. Immediately we got a bad vibe. So we said yes, coffee please and when she came back we ordered. She barely spoke to us the entire time. Then the food came. I had ordered the Daily Scramble. Which said on the menu it was a scramble with grilled toast. I am pescetarian and don t eat meat. When my scramble came over it had ham, asparagus, tomatoes and what looked like cottage cheese. It said nothing about containing these ingredients on the menu. So, I had to scrape it all off. Which was fine but not an experience I liked. Then I went to have my toast and it was not only smothered in far too much butter, but it was stale. My mom s meal was absolutely covered in pepper which she doesn t like at all. So not only was the service bad, but so was the food. The only okay thing about fosters was their coffee. Would not recommend Fosters to anyone.

We had dinner at Foster s. The Southern Fried Chicken was one of the best restaurant meals I have ever had. The service was also very good. I would not hesitate to return.

We had an amazing night out catching up over a wonderful meal. I had the very large Cobb Salad and my friends each had the Pasta Feature. Our waitress was attentive and super friendly. The kitchen was busy though, so be prepared to wait. We will be back.

We didnt stay in the hotel as it was fully booked. A friend and regular guest here suggested to try the restaurant. We came several times for breakfast during the festival week. Very friendly service and great food! Loved it!

Came to Stratford for the weekend to see Chicago (which was amazing). Stopped in at the Fosters Inn for a bite to eat but unfortunately we hadn t made a reservation so we sat up at the bar. We ordered drinks and our apps and the bartender was helpful and friendly. We let him know we were seeing Chicago at 8. We placed our order with the bartender for our main meals just after 6. We were getting 2 steak dinners both medium rare, and a pasta that was on special. Our food didn t arrive to us until 7pm. When it came the pasta was great but we cut into our steaks only to find they were cold. I let the bartender know and without saying anything, he took our plates away, came back a few moments later and very matter of factly said it would be another 5-10 minutes. After the 5-10 with no steaks in sight I said we would have to leave because we have our show. He seemed very irritated at us about that fact and made us feel like it was our fault. It was a very awkward atmosphere. He suggested we just take it to go as it would be done soon (after already waiting almost an hour for it initially) which we declined as we were heading to the show and didn t want to pay almost 100$ for steaks to go. We could tell he was very visibly irritated and even turned to guests that were further down the bar area to show his frustration towards us. I have never felt so awkward or mistreated in a restaurant. We have been to Stratford a few times and have stayed in the fosters hotel a few times before, and have always had amazing experiences. Unfortunately we will never be back to this establishment again after this incident. They did seem very busy, however the staff should be properly trained on how to deal with these types of situations and maybe not take out whatever frustrations they may have on the guests who are just trying to enjoy a night out. I suggest if you want to go somewhere where the staff won t treat you like you are an inconvenience or annoyance, to go somewhere else. Also make sure you have at least an hour to wait for a medium rare steak.

Fosters Inn in Stratford, Ontario is not only a great place to stay but also to dine. On our most recent visit, we enjoyed a wonderful breakfast.. and felt completely comfortable while there, as all safety protocols were in place. The food was as fantastic as the service, which never fails to be friendly and efficient and warm. Were already looking forward to going back in the New Year (when the province starts opening back up again).

Only upper class British tourists, Insurance Executives and Stock Exchange Floor Traders get drunk and light cigars with $100 bills here. Not much vomit on the sidewalk compared to the other bars.

Good location in Downtown Stratford. Parking is on the street or at free municipal lot, no onsite parking. Room was spacious, a bit spartan though. Staff overall was friendly. Need reservations to eat, even if overnight guest.

Usually get the steak because they are all very good but the burgers are also delicious! Also the veggie burger is a very good veg burger that doesnt try to taste like meat

First visit tonight for our anniversary and it was incredible! Every dish was delicious, cooked perfectly. Service was also excellent. Really happy we found this place, cant wait to go back!

After having heard great things about Fosters we were really disappointed. It was definitely not what wed heard. The specials were not available. The wines on the wine list were not available. My Cobb salad which is supposed to be layered was a big hodge podge of stuff on a plate. The pasta special and chefs special were both seafood. If you are allergic to seafood or just dont like it, you were out of luck. The waiter was indifferent to our issues. We paid prices for fine dining in a pub atmosphere.

Went for dinner and food is overpriced. Buttermilk chicken was good but green beens has not even a dash of salt or butter. Hamburgers were recommended on severas reviews but they were just a 3 star at most. Beef burger was half the size of the bun and lamb burger had no seasonings at all...sure it was well cooked and juicy but no flavor in it, fries were super greasy, you pay extra for almost everything $3 for caramelized onions and it was not even one table spoon added. Nice atmosphere and server was nice but very expensive for the quality of the food and size you get

Had a great lamb burger on my last visit. And a very tasty salmon nicoise salad the time before. Wait staff are friendly and helpful.

My sisters, mom and I had a lovely breakfast experience at the restaurant here. Everything we ordered had some of the best hollandaise sauce we have ever had in it. We would highly recommend it! Ryan our waiter was also really friendly and kind. On the way out my mom was purchasing some Remembrance Day bracelets, and there were only 3 left and she wanted 4, so Ryan gave the one he was wearing right off his wrist to her! So glad we stopped here and had this great experience in Stratford!

We stumbled upon this place and we re pleasantly surprised. Best hollandaise I ve ever had! The Benedict came with a very tasty side salad as well. Friendly, cozy place, highly recommend

Very limited menu. We went here expecting a nice dinner. Felt like less than 10 options. As six options alone were steak and burgers. Drink menu was very extensive, so good option for us to come for a drink and go elsewhere for dinner. Wouldnt recommend for dinner, not a lot of variety.

Disappointed. I was really looking forward to dining at Fosters as I was in Stratford for the weekend and it was highly recommended to me. I made reservations for Saturday night. After walking in the front door we were told that everyone has to wear a mask. I was wearing a mask but my guest was not as they are exempt. They mentioned that they were exempt so they did not have one. The waitress looked at us and asked hows that?. My guest politely said that they were exempt from wearing a mask. The waitress then told us they dont serve anyone whos not wearing a mask. After a few awkward seconds I just said we would leave. The disappointment was not being able to dine at Fosters, it was that my guest was questioned about their exemption and they offered no alternative for us to dine there. No asking if she could use her wrap she was wearing to cover as we made our way to the table. Simply that they would not serve us. Thankfully for us there are many other restaurants in Stratford and we were able to dine elsewhere. Hoping on my next visit I can check it out.

18 Dollars for a beef burger and tiny amount of fries, plus 3 dollars for each topping. You folk are absolutely insane. To top it off, the burger was charred black and dry. Very disappointing.
