Afghan Kitchen presents you the vision of the young boy’s very own restaurant since he was six years old. Every corner of Afghan Kitchen is thoughtfully curated. Every dish uses mum’s recipe. This is a family-owned and -run business that reflects the best of Afghan roots, traditions, and values. Afghan Kitchen is the taste of home.
Walking into a restaurant for the first time and being met with exceptional customer service is like stepping into a warm embrace. From the moment you’re greeted, the friendly smiles of the staff make you feel as though you’ve walked into a place that truly values your presence. Every detail—every gesture—shows genuine care, from the attentiveness of the servers to the welcoming nature of the owner, who stops by to ensure your visit is perfect. The atmosphere is not just about dining; it’s about feeling like part of a family. Conversations flow effortlessly, and the staff anticipates your needs before you even voice them. And then, there’s the food—a masterpiece of flavors, prepared with love and served with pride. Each bite tells a story of passion and dedication, leaving you savoring every moment of the experience. When service, hospitality, and cuisine come together like this, it creates not just a meal but a memory you’ll carry long after you leave.
I had the pleasure of dining at Afghan Kitchen in South Surrey recently, and it was nothing short of exceptional. Despite arriving without a reservation during an incredibly busy evening, the staff went out of their way to accommodate me. Their warmth, professionalism, and genuine hospitality were truly impressive. I would highly recommend making a reservation if you plan to visit, as their popularity is well-deserved, and the place fills up quickly. Now, onto the food. The lamb was, without a doubt, the best I’ve ever tasted in my life. It was perfectly cooked—tender, flavorful, and seasoned to perfection. Each bite was a reminder of how much care and expertise goes into their dishes. And the desserts? Their Mom’s Secret was a masterpiece—rich, unique, and the perfect way to end the meal. Afghan Kitchen offers an incredible dining experience, with a blend of exquisite flavors and outstanding service. I cannot recommend this place enough. Do yourself a favor and visit, but don’t forget to book ahead!
Delicious kebabs, great cocktails and excellent appetizers. The yar cocktail was nice, the chicken kebab was perfect. Nice ambiance and gets pretty busy on weekends. I would definitely recommend this place if you are in south surrey.
Make reservations:) If I could give 10 stars I would. From the incredible service, the family ownership and running of the business gives a real family feel. The food- I’ve never heard my table guests moan in delight the way that they did at every bite. We ordered the platter for 4 and dumplings to get a taste of multiple things and it was so delicious!
Haven't been back here for many years, but that first bite felt like I never left. We ordered the eggplant with Afghan bread. Bread was fresh out of the oven and dip spread so perfectly on the soft bread. Next we had the Afghan Nuggets. Generously sized with a yummy chutney to dip them in. We just so happened to be there for happy hour so had to get the Aushak dumplings to share too. Lastly we ordered the Afghan Chicken with extra sauce with the Afghan rice (comes with raisins, carrots) with a side of Chai Masala. It was good, but the next day leftovers were even better! Chicken was tender and the sauce over the rice is a flavour bomb. Thanks for the good eats, attentive staff and bustling atmosphere.
I recently visited this Afghan restaurant with my family, and we had a memorable meal. We ordered the Night of Kabul dish, along with their signature rose drink. The rice was beautifully seasoned and perfectly cooked, complementing the meal nicely. The meats—beef, chicken, and lamb—were well-seasoned, but unfortunately, they were a bit overcooked and dry, which detracted from the overall experience. The atmosphere of the restaurant was warm and inviting, making it a nice place to enjoy a family meal. The customer service was commendable; the staff was attentive and friendly throughout our visit. Overall, while the meats could use some improvement, the flavors and ambiance make this restaurant worth a visit. I would recommend giving it a try!
Today, my husband and I celebrated my birthday with a dinner at the Afghan Kitchen. The staff kindly reserved the sitting room for us, but we preferred to dine in the main hall. They quickly accommodated our request and arranged seats for us there. The host was incredibly welcoming and proudly shared the history of the restaurant. The food was outstanding, and even my husband, who usually isn’t adventurous with food, thoroughly enjoyed his meal! We couldn’t stop praising the flavors and assured them we’d be back. Since I had booked through the OpenTable and noted it was for a birthday, the restaurant surprised us with a sweet dessert topped with a candle. I was delighted and impressed by the thoughtful gesture. As we were leaving, other guests even wished me a happy birthday, which was so sweet of them. We will definitely return to this restaurant very soon. I highly recommend it to everyone.
Went for the first time on a Saturday evening. Had an amazing experience. Ordered the potato pakawras, cauliflower and chicken appetizers to start. Everything was fresh, crispy and flavourful. The chicken was crispy on the outside and so juicy inside. Ate the KLB to YVR platter. The lamb shank was so tender and flavourful. Ended with mom's secret cake. The cake absolutely stole the show, it was amazing. Will be back!
Not my kind of food. Maybe it s just the cuisine itself that I don t like much. But the restaurant otherwise is good
How interesting! I came across another review from Mr. Raoufi elsewhere, also with just one star. From this, it seems we can conclude that you often leave negative reviews. If you have criticisms, you should express them properly and truthfully, as many people rely on reviews to make their decisions. It is unfair to suddenly recall your grievances after several years and write a review today Such behavior is unbecoming of someone with a respectable character. Your actions harm businesses, and it s important to always prioritize truth and fairness in life. On a different note, Afghan Kitchen is one of the finest restaurants I ve ever been to. The food is absolutely delicious, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is both traditional and charming. Wishing you success!
Great food great staff
A great place to have a family dinner
Afghan Kitchen in South Surrey is a hidden gem that delivers an unparalleled dining experience, far beyond what one might expect. From the moment I stepped inside, I was met with the warmest hospitality I ve ever encountered. The staff made it feel less like a restaurant visit and more like stepping into the home of a dear friend, eager to share their culture, traditions, and incredible food with you. The service was impeccable attentive without being intrusive. The staff genuinely cared about ensuring every detail of my visit was perfect. They took the time to explain the dishes, their origins, and even offered recommendations tailored to my preferences. It felt like they truly wanted me to enjoy and understand Afghan cuisine, and their passion for their food and heritage was evident in every interaction. Now let s talk about the food absolutely extraordinary. Each dish was a masterpiece of flavor, texture, and presentation. The spices were perfectly balanced, creating layers of complexity that showcased the care and skill behind the cooking. The kebabs were juicy and seasoned to perfection, the rice dishes were aromatic and light, and the stews were rich and comforting. The portions were generous, yet the food was so delicious I found myself savoring every last bite. One of the standout dishes was the mantu (Afghan dumplings). These delicate dumplings, filled with spiced meat and topped with a tangy yogurt sauce, were an explosion of flavor. The naan bread was fresh and warm, perfect for scooping up the rich sauces of the curries. And the dessert oh, the dessert! The firnee (a silky Afghan pudding) was the perfect sweet ending to a phenomenal meal. The ambiance of Afghan Kitchen further elevated the experience. The decor was beautiful, blending modern design with traditional Afghan elements, creating a cozy yet sophisticated atmosphere. It was clear that every detail, from the lighting to the music, was carefully curated to transport diners to a different place. What truly sets Afghan Kitchen apart is the genuine sense of community they foster. You re not just a customer here you re a guest, and they treat you like family. It s rare to find a restaurant that combines exceptional food, outstanding service, and heartfelt hospitality so seamlessly. If you re in South Surrey or anywhere nearby, Afghan Kitchen is an absolute must-visit. Whether you re already a fan of Afghan cuisine or trying it for the first time, this restaurant will leave you amazed. I can t recommend it enough it s a dining experience you won t forget.
One of my favorite restaurants. Great food and amazing staff. Highly recommend Afghan Kitchen for a great dining experience!
Loved the vegetarian options. Ordered the Bolani and Lubya and both were great! Seems like an idea spot to go with a group of friends so you can try out a bunch of dishes. Gendered bathrooms.
Went here for the first time and loved all the dishes! My wife and I will try out their other restaurants in Vancouver! A little on the pricey side, but the food is definitely worth it!
Elegant environment and special food. My friend chooses this new place to have lunch. Our surprise the food is delicious than we expected. I tired couple times here, never let me disappointed. Especially lamb and lamb shoulder , really worthy to try. I recommend this place to my friends many times, they all have good comments here. Very suitable for family, friends or company gathering here.
The food is so tasty and service is great. On a higher price range
I recently visited this restaurant and had an amazing experience. The food was absolutely delicious, with authentic flavors and generous portions. The service was excellent friendly, attentive, and made me feel very welcome. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience, and I ll definitely be returning. Highly recommend!
Amazing experience with very delicious food, great service, cozy atmosphere. We feel better every time we come back to Afghan Kicthen and they make our evening unforgettable each time. Food
Loved the experience of sitting on the low traditional seating area! Great food
Clean organize Nice customer service of course the food is delicious Food : 5/5
Good food, and nice space to eat. You never know whether you ll get a really nice server or one who looks annoyed that s it s busy on a long weekend
My husband and I ate here last night - it was really busy and we did not have a reservation - it was worth the 20 min wait! We tried the Kabul to Vancouver platter for two and started with their hummus dish. The food (and cardamon rose drink) was really tasty, the atmosphere was lively and the staff were very friendly... I cant wait to go back and try more from the menu - the smokey eggplant side was one I would eat again and again.
We came around 21 20 - i was turned down saying last call is on 21 15 - i came all the from Vancouver to eat at this place - it says open till 10pm everywhere. Thank you so much guys customers deserve this.
Must try, excellent dishes, specially the combo, Thai, and pistachio ice cream. Great service, but the venue is very loud, hard to hear. Food : 5/5
Service was so slow and there was not enough space between table, I felt like we were sitting all together with side table
Exceptional Flavors and Warm Hospitality at Afghan Kitchen I recently had the pleasure of dining at Afghan Kitchen in Surrey, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we walked in, the warm and inviting ambiance made us feel at home. The decor is charming, and the service is outstanding friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The food was nothing short of spectacular. We tried the Aisha s 2.0 dumplings and the Knights in Kabul ( enough to feed 6 people), both bursting with flavor and spices perfectly balanced. Every dish had a unique blend of traditional Afghan ingredients, and it s clear they use fresh, high-quality ingredients. Portions were generous and beautifully presented, making the experience even more delightful. One of the highlights was the bread baked fresh in-house. It was warm, fluffy, and paired excellently with the flavorful dips and dishes. The server was knowledgeable and gave us excellent recommendations based on our preferences, which made our meal even more enjoyable. If you re looking for a genuine taste of Afghan cuisine with top-notch hospitality, Afghan Kitchen is a must-visit. The food, atmosphere, and service all make for a truly memorable dining experience. Highly recommend to anyone looking to try something delicious and different!
Great ambience and food.
Food was amazing...I made the mistake of not reserving. The place is always packed. One of the best lamb and chicken dishes Ive had
Update: its been 3 years since i posted the below postive review, and my oh my has it changed. The rudest service I have ever received at a restaurant. First of all, to make a reservation is high pressure. The guy on the phone told me i could make the reservation now but only for 1 hour because its friday...so if you take 20mins to make my food i got how long to eat it before I go? Nope... its not what it used to be. The food quality is also down, and I wish it was because of covid, but sadly, they were starting to skimp before the lockdowns. Now, maybe this was a 1 off experience twice in a row, but i sincerely hope they go back to their original proper food and service because its a shame that its ruined this way. ------ WOW. The food, the service, all of it is a big wow. The food is delicious, tender lamb and meats, yummy sauces! The flavours of all the food is very distinct! They have something for everyone! From the meat lover to the veggie eater! The service is really helpful and all of the staff can explain exactly what their food is and how its prepared which makes you confident in your selection. There isnt a bad choice from their menu, you will surely love the flavours! The restaurant: atmosphere is lively and trendy! Its got inspiration of its Afghan roots and modern touches that make you feel comfortable! The only downside is that its rather dark which makes the dining experience somewhat dingy. The prices: they arent cheap but you can see why theyre priced about $70 plus tip for a couple because the food is good quality and the service is very good. You can choose cheaper dishes and drinks but for sure try their lamb- oh my lord, the lamb! Final verdict: go there now, you need to eat!!!
Absolutely beautiful, amazing service, wonderful food. Had such a great time
Delicious food! Everything is well seasoned, spiced, and balanced. Somehow they make spinach taste amazing. It might be the best food in the area and a must try! I suggest sitting in the traditional seating area. Unfortunately during our meal somebody pulled the fire alarm. Who I assume was the manager quickly sorted out the situation, let us know what happened, and was apologetic. Can t really ask much more from them than that. Great experience. Dietary restrictions: Gluten friendly
5 star for their service and atmosphere, and of course, their Ferni is to die for but food is average. Keep in mind the food is delicious but since I am afghan and know what afghan food should taste like. Overall, it was an amazing experience
Have visited twice now. Both times were excellent. Tried the KBL to YVR platter the first visit (highly recommend if you dont have any idea what to order) and it had way more food than we needed. The Lamb was tender and the sauce mixes into the rice beautifully. Second visit we tried the dumplings. Both the vegetarian and beef are tasty, but the spicy vegetarian is absolutely the best. I Also cant recommend the Bolani enough. Comes with two amazing sauces to dip in, and the portion is large enough for two people without question. Our last visit we actually got a second order to take home with our leftovers. Our server Monica was very attentive and friendly, didnt hesitate with recommendations, and was more than happy to describe any dishes we inquired about. One of the owners came by both visits and were also incredibly friendly and wonderful to chat with. The owners clearly have an immense amount of pride in what theyre creating and it shows. Cocktails, desserts, mains, theyre all great here. Rich, full flavors that will leave you smiling. Try the floor/cushion seating if you want to get intimate and cozy with your date. Its a great way to enjoy the food and drink.
The food and the staff are friendly and helpful. The owner is super cool. He came out and chatted with us for a while and made some recommendations. Dont skip dessert, Mums secret cake is so good.
Yum!! Chicken kebab and rice!
We went to Afghan Kitchen for the first time tonight for our anniversary dinner and everything was awesome. The food was delicious and looked so appetizing, the decor and ambience were so authentic and the staff were so attentive and welcoming.
Has a great experience. Tho it was busy our server explained everything well and we didnt feel rushed. Our food came quickly yet everything was delicious.
Food was okay.
Very nice and great food.
Very nice restaurant Food has a lot of flavour Food
Just incredible! Ordered the platter for pickup and had a four winds IPA which was nice too. Be back soon!
Perfect place for authentic afghani food!
This place struggled to impress us. From the moment we arrived we felt unimportant. We found the menu overwhelming and stated this to the server who was indifferent to helping us decide. My meal arrived lukewarm and the plate was mainly filled with rice. My husband was happy with his chicken meal. The server didn t check back until we completed our meal. When I told her my meal was lukewarm she just said sorry. We also felt it is overpriced for what you get. We went because we wanted something different, but hugely disappointed.
Such a lovely place for a delicious meal! I have been numerous times and I will definitely continue to return. The food is traditional Afghan cuisine is delicious and the staff is so friendly! Dietary restrictions: My date was GF and they were able to accommodate her.
Beyond amazing. This place deserves a Michelin star.
Simply exceptional Afghan cuisine, infinitely grateful for this place. Huge restaurant super friendly waiters that want to have a conversation with you like what happened not very slow wait times and huge portions and amazing artistic looks.
What a great place with even more amazing staff
Try the kebabs! The smoky flavor is so delicious! Lamb was tender and juicy. Nice location. Great service.
First of all, the food is very delicious. I give it five stars. The quantity on the plate is enough for one person, so if you are two people, do not think about ordering just one plate. Second, they only serve soft drinks. I did not order a drink. I drank water only. So if you suffer from soft drinks, bring your own drink. Also, if you have a child who does not like to drink carbonated drinks, it is better to serve non-carbonated drinks for the other groups and children. Third, the employee took the plate from me while it was empty. I did not like that. I prefer that she wait until we get up from the table and then clean it. I felt as if she wanted us to leave quickly. Fourth, we asked the employee to move to sit on the floor tables. They did not respond to our request, even though the seats were completely empty.
The staff was super friendly and suggested trying the bolani. Its really tasty with sweet chili sauce, and the decor inside has a great vibe!
Super unique flavours and beautifully presented and delicious dishes. The Owner came to our table and explained each dish and the history behind it and what it meant to his family. He was attentive and you can really tell he cares deeply about the restaurant and his customers, something you just dont see enough of these days. Everything was 10/10. Highly recommend to anyone!! Vegetarian options: Plenty of vegetarian options!!
Just wow! Beautiful spot, our waitress was absolutely amazing! Food was awesome, presentation was great! As a vegan, I was beyond impressed with the items we ordered. They were super accommodating by separating the dairy items so the non-vegans can enjoy the full experience of the plates. The entrées were Our shared meals were The gelato was We ordered the Chilled Eggplant and Gold Wedges, From the Field for one and the Lentil Stew, and topped it all off with a Pistachio Gelato Dietary restrictions: They know their menu pretty well and if they arent sure, they check to make sure we get the right answer. They have vegan friendly options, as well as gluten-free options for those who need it. They are very accommodating with their menu. Parking: Its located in an outdoor mall, surrounded by other food and some shopping spots. Large parking lot, plenty of place to park just about anywhere and walk to the restaurant.
OMG the best food Ive ever had.
Overall a great experience, family run business, the host are very euthaustic with the Afghanistan food and culture. The potato pancake is soooo good. Only thing is that the wait time is very long for the main dish, but you can tell is fresh made instead of reheated pre made.
When yesterday for our anniversary with my husband, the food was absolutely delicious! Afghan chicken is so well-cooked that the bone falls off the meat easily. Portions are good for the price. The tee was also very good! The music in the background was perfect! Not too loud so you can still have a conversation. We will be back for sure. Ohh I almost forgot to mention the sweet girl who was our server and the nice gentleman who received it at the door. I suggest you to make a reservation as the place is always full with long time waiting list.
The food was really delicious. The Beef Kebab was my favorite with the Afghan Chicken a close second. The Masala Chai was yummy and kids will enjoy the Strawberry Lemonade. Definitely worth the visit.
Love this place! Super consistent quality of good food including juicy meats, YVR to KBL platter is my go-to. A wide variety of creative drink and desserts too!
Nasty food
Very amazing food and venue.
The food was excellent as well as the service, me and my girl shared two plates and felt like we could have fed four with it. 100% recommended, Turkish coffee it s a great closer s to this wonderful meal! Naheed our server was excellent We ll come back
Amazing food. Came out very quick too Not pictured here was the Spice chicken breast hands down best chicken breast Ive ever had and I only eat chicken breast lol Food
We had dinner at this lovely place, last night. Tastefully decorated, it pays homage to Afghanistan s rich culture. The staff were super friendly and did a great job explaining the menu and cautioning us of large, generous portions. The food was INCREDIBLE! Their kebabs had a distinct charcoal-grilled taste, the Lamb Shanks were fall-of-the-bone tender with fragrant Afghan rice. Our appetizer was a huge stuffed paratha that was more than adequate. Ehsan was a gracious, friendly host; son of the lady behind these delicacies. There s an amazing story behind their success - you must visit to find out more!
Afghan kitchen is amazing. Go see the dancers and taste the amazing lamb shank .
The staff was welcoming and friendly but the star of this restaurant was most definitely the food. We were able to try to hummus along with the KBL to YVR platter for two, both of which were delicious!
The food is good, priced high. The problem is service, they had us waiting for our food for 40 mins without any apologies or even the courtesy to refill water
Big portions Tasty Good service Food : 5/5
Amazing service and food! Had the lamb shoulder and it was faaantastic!! Strongly recommend making an appointment. Its busy and worth the wait. Food : 5/5
We absolutely loved it here! The food was fantastic and such big portions. Our absolute favourite part however was our server Monica. She was so kind and went above and beyond for my sister in laws birthday. Thank you Monica!!!
The food was so well-presented and tasted incredible! Service was very hospitable and friendly. Definitely will be coming back for more! I would book a reservation as well, as the place got quite busy when we were leaving (Wednesday evening).
Great food and service.
Absolutely amazed by the fantastic food and the warm welcome of this restaurant. You get the blend of flavours of a family run Afghan restaurant food with a beautiful atmosphere. I highly recommend the mum s secret dessert.
Weve been here at least 3 times. Its always woni. Parking: No problem. Wheelchair accessibility: Yes
Excellent everything. AC was very cold Food
The service at this restaurant was superb. The food met my expectations, very flavourful and true to the description on the menu.
Food and ambience was amazing. There were only 2 servers, both servers were very very nice and polite but only downside it took forever for our order to come.
This place is so amazing. It is modern, yet traditional as the hosts wear the afghan traditional vests. Very clean. The food was very good. The service was amazing. The hostess came a couple of times to ask how we were enjoying the food. We tried the dessert called moms secret and it was very delicious. We were there 3 weeks ago. We will definitely return to this restaurant again.
Always consistently excellent food and service, highly recommended.
One of the hidden gems of Surrey dining experience. Excellent food and service. My comparison is having been served in an Afghan friends home with an Afghan mothers cooking. This dining experience came so close! Bravo to the Afghan Kitchen team!
Always good- they are busy for a reason- the food is delicious, the service is kind and welcoming, and the atmosphere is great. I ll never say a bad word about Afghan Kitchen. My husband and I love coming here! It s great to see loyal staff over the last 4 years we ve been coming, which is nice to see that the owners care about the staff. The platters are great- we always get KBL to YVR as it has a variety of flavour! If you don t know what to get- that s the one! I also love that they have lots of mock tails as I don t drink alcohol at all. Try the Nahal. To the staff- keep up the good work Dietary restrictions: Most things are Gluten Free! Nice for celiac or allergies- they know all about cross contamination and made it painless to get GF for the platter :)
Perfect
we had the afghan feast and it was one of the best meals i ve shared with friends! must try when coming into Vancouver Food
Afghan korma was not available, yogurt was not served, bread was dry. No flavor in food. Over hyped place. Would not recommend to anyone.
Great food, attentive service and very careful for my kids allergies. Well be back.
Overhyped
Excellent service, the food is exceptional. Highly recommended!
Excellent service food and atmosphere!
Waited long time to be seated. Instead of seating guest waiter busy with cleaning the table even though there are multiple empty tables.
First time visiting Afghan Kitchen in Surrey in late June. Interior is pretty bright with tall ceilings. We ordered the KBL to YVR platter as it had a little bit of everything... eggplant, potato, sautéed spinach, chicken kebab, and lamb shank for $74. The lamb was super tender and I really liked the eggplant. The chicken kabob was huge. We upgraded for the Afghani rice and it was probably the weakest point on this platter. Ive had it at other Afghan restaurants and Im not sure why I didnt enjoy this version. Also ordered the Brussels sprouts and the pakawras (thick potato slices encased in a crispy batter) - both were quite good. For drinks, we had the apricot mule and the nahal (quite refreshing).
Authentic and modern with great service. I had visitors from out of town and took them there. Like us, they were very impressed with the food, atmosphere and service. Manager was very nice. Highly recommend it.
The food was delicious and it was a great experience!
Afghan Kitchen in now one of my favorite places to dine. Great service and delicious food. Kid-friendliness: Never felt rushed, very chilled atmosphere.
Been going there for years! They have the best food and the best service! Must try their Mom s Secret Cake!!
The atmosphere at Afghan Kitchen was warm and inviting, providing a nice dining experience for customers. The food service was exceptional, with friendly and attentive staff who were knowledgeable about the menu and able to make recommendations. Overall, the dining experience at Afghan Kitchen was top-notch and highly recommended.
Great personal service & the hummus was the best I ever had!
When we arrived it was quite busy but they were very accommodating and made space for us outside which we appreciated because the food smelled and looked so good! We got the bolani which I loved and the kebabs chicken and minced beef. Both were to die for. Our server was lovely to talk to and her recommondations were on point. Thank you for the amazing dinner!!
Wow it was amazing food. First time tried. Nahid was the best . She explained very well about the food . I was so amazed about the design. Thank you all staff.
What a unique and delicious experience. The dancer was great Best Turkish coffee Ive had!!! Sevice was excellent Vegetarian options: Beans and rice was so tasty.
Absolutely loved this restaurant. We were there for the first time to celebrate my birthday we were wowed by their flavourful dishes, warm welcoming ambience and exceptionally good service. I personally loved the lamb shoulder.Definitely
This is a family run restaurant and the food as authentic as it gets. We shared their kabob dish for 5. Its plenty for 7 to 8. They have a bar that create all your favorite drinks. You have to make a reservation during weekends. The place gets crowded.
Very nice location good service excellent food
We went there last year it was ok , went again 2 days ago it s changed hand very much and very pricey for 4 people simple food 204 $ plus tips which minimum you can pay %18 our bill was about 240 never going there again
Delish food, lovely environment and kind service!
Never had Afghan food before, but picked up the plant lovers platter for 2 for takeout. Upon entering, it was the best smelling restaurant Ive ever stepped foot in! My husband and I immediately regretted getting takeout because the ambiance was so nice we wished we had dined in. The food ended up being some of the best weve ever gotten in Surrey, since our old favourite My Shanti is now closed down, we can see this becoming our new favourite for special occasions. The amount lasted us for 2 nights. We cant wait to come back again soon.
Love the traditional seating and the art on the walls. The food and service were excellent, especially Mums secret! Wed never tried Afghan food before and theyve set the bar very high :) Will definitely be back with more people!
Fantastic food, good portion especially the proteins. Service was slow, but staff were friendly. Plenty of parking outside. The rose cardamom drink was so-so. Will definitely visit again for the lamb kebabs.
Very nice and delicious food. Staff was very welcoming and pleasant atmosphere
I had an amazing dining experience at Afghan Kitchen restaurant! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff was incredibly attentive and friendly. The food was outstanding, with every dish bursting with flavour and beautifully presented. I cant wait to come back. Five stars all the way!
The food here is excellent! Can t go wrong with anything on the menu from their Iamb Shank to their Afghan chicken nuggets. For dessert I d recommend the Shir Yakh.
One of my favourite restaurants. Tasty and healthy not too oily. Definitely visit again.
*DISGUSTING SERVICE* if there was an option for NO STARS I WOULDVE HIT IT SO QUICK Absolutely rude and unprofessional I WISH I HAD MORE TO SAY ABOUT THIS PLACE BUT THATS IF THE SERVERS ACTUALLY ACKNOWLEDGED US AND I SAW AT LEAST 7 SERVES LOOK AT US AND NONE OF THEM BOTHERED TO EVEN TELL US IF THEY WERE NOT ACCEPTING ANY MORE CUSTOMERS..THERE WERE A FEW EMPTY TABLES SO THAT NULLS IT..ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING..THE MANAGER WAS RIGHT NEXT TO US TALKING TO A CUSTOMER NEAR THE ENTRANCE AND DIDNT EVEN BOTHER LOOKING UP WILL NEVER EVER COME HERE AGAIN.
We sat in the traditional side of the restaurant and it was cozy, felt very much like a home setting between friends. The food portions are generous and the staff are helpful and awesome especially Kendra she really went above and beyond what I would expect of a server. I will definitely return i dont normally like hummus but i tried it here and i did enjoy it! The afghan rice is a bit sweet but if thats not your style they have normal rice too, this place is a must try !
My daughter ordered a drink, and she didnt like the taste, so the server asked my daughter to order a new one, and they didnt charge the first order.
Everything perfect
Never had Afghan food before. An amazing experience. Delicious food, top notch service and a nice atmosphere. I highly recommend coming here!
Wonderful!! Food was super tasty and the service was exceptional! Great vegan options too! Highly recommended!!
I would highly recommend this place so go as soon a possible! 1. Excellent customer service! Our servers were very courteous, helpful and kind. Bonus points- even the owner was helping to clean up tables! 2. Beautiful ambiance inside and decor 3. Presentation is 10 out of 5 stars!! Beautiful plating of the food! 4. Taste of the food was so good! 5. Portions were massive! We ordered the KBL - YVR platter for 2 and we barely scratched the surface. 6. Price - I would say their prices are quite reasonable for the portion they give. Overall, the team at Afghan Kitchen is doing an amazing job!!
We had the lamb shank, bolani and mum s secret for dessert. The food was fantastic and the meat was almost melting in the mouth.
Amazing food as always. Great service as well.
Love bolani, afghan ice cream and pink tea at this location. Beautifully decorated. Very pleasant staff.
Why did it take me so long to go to this place? Everything about me it makes you feel warm and fuzzy. Elegant but also like being invited to a good friends place for dinner. Highly recommended.
Amazing food and amazing service.
Great food and amazing service!
Food is very tasty but I got very thirsty later. Not sure what spice they use caused that.
The Lamb shoulder was the best Lamb dish I have ever had, enjoyed everything on my plate.
Food and service was incredible. We ordered the KBL to YVR and the platter was tasty. The desserts though were the stars for me. Mums secret cake and shir yakh pint ice cream hit the spot. Id come just for the desserts. So good and satisfying.
Unbelievable food, staff was attentive and so nice. Cant believe I havent been here before. We will be back in greater numbers, a gem of a resturant in south surrey.
Amazing place for an Afghan meal with amazing atmosphere. Id heard good things about Zarak (same owners, downtown) from a friend, and was excited to try this place. The service was so so friendly and helpful, and the carpeted floor seating area made for a really cool experience. We got a platter for 4 with multiple dishes, and they were all delicious! The lamb shank is especially tender and delicious.
Everything we ordered exceed our expectations. So delicious and great seevice. Thank you! We will be back for more Afghan food
I love Afghan Kitchen. This is my to go place from many years. Never disappointed. I strongly recommend Afghan Kitchen. Vegetarian options: Order Lubia with rice
This restaurant is a little out of they way for us, but well with the drive. The staff are very friendly, and the food is outstanding.
A truly fantastic experience. The staff were extremely welcoming and attentive to my party. They brought the food out in inseparate batches (because we ordered a lot) and replaced the tableware in between each course. Each plate of food was extremely delicious and was a great introduction to the culture. The dining area was decorated with artwork and cultural furniture. A definite recommendation to any who are on the fence about trying this place out
Ordered 2 platters and a tray of potatoes via DD from here. It was absolutely delicious! The jewelled rice too, and the pink yogurt sauce thing. I d definitely order from here again. Due to a failure to communicate on my part, my brother also ended up paying when he went to pick it up. The restaurant, despite being busy on the holiday, managed to catch the error and call me to let me know. I was able to get to the restaurant just after closing and these gracious guys let me in, offered me some Turkish coffee, and got me the refund for the overpayment. Solid service all around, thanks so much!
Beautiful meals, careful menu planning, generous portions. Leave room for dessert. Food
We had a lovely meal here. I had the special, a vegetable korma with homemade paneer. Absolutely delicious! My partner had a beef kabob, which was excellent too. The servers were all lovely, genuine, friendly folk! Dietary restrictions: Lots of gluten-free options, clearly labelled, and the staff were knowledgeable.
There is nothing I dont like about the Afghan Kitchen. The food so flavourful, so perfectly prepared. Tonight six of us shared the KBL to YVR platter for two, the Afghan Chicken and the Bolani, and had enough left overs for another full dinner tonight! The service is on point, the decor is tasteful and interesting. Weve dined in and had takeout on perhaps a dozen occasions, anf never been disappointed. Recommended!
My favourite food is lamb shoulder, with rice . The food is delicious as always. Here I am talking about service, They are above and beyond. The owner was polite and respectful, Can t wait to go again Parking: Specially who has electric cars, tesla superchargers are behind this location Eat food and charge your car , saving plenty of time
I absolutely loved the service, ambience, and food, especially Mums Secret Cake. Honestly, I overindulged. Dietary restrictions: They have options for those with dietary restrictions (diary free alternatives).
Food was below average taste and presentation wise. Atmosphere was ok. Good service.
Delicious food and great service
The food is delicious and the staff is very friendly! I highly recommend the kebab and the secret mums cake. 10 out 10!
What a delicious Afghan food I have ever had. Excellent customer service. Relaxing music and environment.
Extremely authentic restaurant with traditional vibe. Went for dinner, the food was excellent. The spices and the meat tasted sooo fresh. The service was top notch! This place is a must try!!
Its really average.
My introduction to Afgan cuisine was blown away with the complex yet inviting flavors richly spiced but comforting ! The plating and sides was fantastic. Going back for more soonest possible.
One of the highlights of Bolani is its versatility - it can be enjoyed as a snack, appetizer, or even a main course and Pokarwas are simple yet delicious, often enjoyed on their own or paired with various chutneys and sauces.
I brought my children to visit the store on weekends. The overall feeling of the store is neat and orderly, and the store staff is friendly. I ordered a few common ones in the comment section and they tasted good. Especially the muscles can be made very soft and moist, which is very suitable to my taste. The kids loved it too. The guests come from all ethnic groups and it seems like a place that everyone likes!
The food is good but the vegetarians menu is not that flavourful. This place is the best for kebabs Food
A great place to try out Afghanistan cuisine I am no expert but it seems really authentic with a lot of choices on the menus free parking and wifi.
Had a group party, ambience was amazing, service was great, food was delicious, will definitely return! Thank you!
Highly recommend
Fantastic food and fantastic service!
Amazing service and top notch quality food. We love this place.
Great food and customer service!
We LOVED everything we ordered for lunch here! Happy hour was a great deal and the portions were very generous. We really enjoyed the Bolani, Mantu Dumplings, and the Afghan Chicken. Everything was so tender and flavorful! We also appreciated that our waiter gave us individual checks matching what we each ordered (for a party of 4) and even split the appetizer cost four ways.
Everything we had was absolutely unreal! Chicken Korma, steak kabobs, dumplings I don t live nearby but I will be back! Oh, and the cardamom coffee was unlike anything I ve ever had and fabulous!!
The manager/owner has amazing customer service skills. Very blown away by his customer service. He definately cares about providing good service. You must try their brussel sprouts. I have tried brussel sprouts almost every restaurant that I eat at that offers it on their menu and Afghan kitchen has the best tasting ones.
This restaurant is amazing from the food to the customer service one of the best places to dine out in the lower mainland. Be sure to check it out
Everythings perfect
I could live here if I could
Our server was Liz. She is very polite, professional and patient. Everyone seems very nice there. The food is really good, you will not be disappointed. And you have to get a dessert for sure. Will come back again.
Very tasty food!
My grandmother and I had the KBL to YVR platter and it was perfect. Lamb and chicken were so tender and it gave us an opportunity to try a lot. Staff is so kind, and Id recommend making a reservation as they get quite busy. All in all loved the experience.
Please do not decide on whether to go here or not based on our review. It could be a one-ff situation for the place, but it didnt work for us. We ordered almost half of their Meat menu. Not at all the flavors and taste what we expected from Afghan cuisine. The lamb shank had the same tomato based gravy as the Afghan chicken they had-tasted like a fusion with Indian cuisine. And Afghan chicken was not what we expected. Anyway, fair description is given in their on location menu(not sure about online) on what gravy each has. So we kind of walked into it. We are considering all the other Afghan/Persian cuisine places weve eaten from to base this review upon. The Kebab(we ordered shami) was extremely dry and bland. Surprisingly our waitress gave a reason to why the kebab is dry - which means the place acknowledges the kebab is dry. We find no reason to go back. If we do , we hope its after some change is brought upon. The beers(Hoyne especially) and coffee were good. And of course for how much we liked the food, the prices were just on the high side. Check out the prices before you visit may be.
I ve been talking about the Brussel sprouts Ever since!! Delicious Food
Very tasty food , restaurant have vegan options too. Loved it
Absolutely great experience with amazing service and excellent food. The lamb kabob and afgan chicken were phenomenal and Id highly recommend them to all.
Amazing place to visit ! Fine dining Food
Good
ABSOLUTE PERFECTION. I brought my Mom and Dad to Afghan Kitchen for my Moms birthday and it was a phenomenal experience. For context, we hadnt gone out much to eat recently as a family as my Mom has been recovering from cancer treatments and my Dad is 91 years old with a very restrictive diet. I say all of this because going out is such a rare occurrence and the staff at Afghan Kitchen made the evening wonderful! I called ahead of time regarding my Dads diet and they were able to accommodate everything. Every single dish was DELICIOUS, the service was perfection, ambiance lovely and modern but with a truly personal touch. We just loved it all. THANK YOU to everyone at Afghan Kitchen for making my Moms 77th birthday so memorable. We will absolutely be back! xo Helenna
I wish I can give them 0 for their service very bad and rude
We re back. We love the Brussel Sprouts and the Lentil Soup. Thanks to the incredible staff. Always a fantastic experience. Vegetarian options: Love the Brussels sprouts and lentil soup.
Not as good as it used to be. Food has gone downhill substantially, prices keep going up while quality is declining Some of the servers and new manager or owners brother is extremely rude. Previous chap was very friendly and courteous. Removed soft drinks from their menu , just to make more money by selling the watered down drinks Please return to the quality and great service you once had
Great food, very controlled salt with food cooked perfectly. Loved the flavors
Dietary restrictions: Lots of Gluten-Free menu items Food
