Western Mediterranean fusion restaurant serving the best pasta & pizza in Cloverdale, Surrey!
It was good! Renovated venue. Friendly staff. The food was great. Definitely what the neighborhood needs... a fresh new, huge place to hang out.
Booked the whole room in the back for an event, they took the away the food around 7 pm (that we had paid for!) which forced us to order more food and pay more money, started cleaning up the tables and setting them up for breakfast by 9 pm, we had it booked until 11. Added autogratuity onto every single bill even though they were all separate bills. 8 of us went for breakfast the next morning, took 15 minutes just for drinks to come and then another 10 for the waters we ordered as well. By the time the food finally came out they only brought 1-2 plates at a time with about 5-10 mins in between, food was cold, service was NOT good. Do not recommend this place for any sort of event.
We frequently enjoy eating here! We have got to know the staff. There is something for everyone on the menu. Nice to have food that is made in house .Great pizza and pastas The staff is respectful and the service is great wether you are in a small or larger group.
We absolutely love visiting Charcoal & Woodz. All the servers are fantastic and very attentive, we especially enjoy seeing Simi when we visit. The menu is extensive, diverse, and delicious. Be sure to try Dave's hot special made hot sauce!
I can only base this review on one meal - because I’ll never come back. I ordered the 12 oz house smoked ribeye. Sounds delicious, right? Not even close. The only “smoke” flavour came from when it was cooked. I don’t know why they asked how I would like it cooked because it was so thin there is no way to cook it to a specific temp. Almost no seasoning didn’t help at all. Served on a bed of basic mashed potatoes made it just sad. $73 later after a starter salad and beer BEFORE tip and tax and I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. AVOID!! Now I see why no one was in the restaurant at peak dinner time.
Went here for a family event and I really liked their food! Super random but I loved their pastas and mashed potatoes the most! The staff were friendly and attentive. They would always refill our waters and take our plates when we are done. They are very polite and kind!
Atmosphere is fabulous really, but the service could be so much better. Food choices not excellent and could do better for appetizers. Imposed gratuities are so triggering for me. When one goes out, should they be fortunate enough to do so, to be insulted by the owner that clearly does not pay staff enough as they want to impose a larger penalty on the consumer. I will simply take my business elsewhere. I know it is becoming the norm to have an imposed gratuity. It literally annoys me to the point of - I will keep my money at home. I like tipping also, but when its deserved and not because I am told to and I prefer to give cash to the server and most times, they do tip out in a pool so that the whole team benefits because they work to take care of the parties as a team -
Our first time to visit this restaurant as we saw the great selection they had for their Happy Hour. We were very disappointed with food as even though we had ordered five different dishes, none of them tasted decent. We even had to send a couple of the dishes back to the kitchen (super salty). The restaurant itself is in a very nice location, clean, and the server we had (Kiran) was very sweet. They have variety of selection for their Happy Hour and price is very very good but the food does not taste good. Based on our food tasting experience, only giving the restaurant one star: 1) Chicken Tikka - Super Salty - send back to get redone, and came back okay tasting only. 2) Calamari - Dry, chewy, and tasted old 3) Fish Taco - missing taste. Came with two and we didn't event touch the second one. 4) Dry Ribs - also salty and sent back to the kitchen to get redone. When it back, it was not salty but still not good. 5) Chicken Wings - below average.
Poor service clam chowder served with so much curry it was a brow rue. Not as advertised
The place is very clean but little crowded cause its only 1 level as there are hotel rooms above and the chandeliers jingle and shake from people bumping uglies upstairs lol but overall its in a good location to call an Uber or catch a bus nearby
This place is definitely a 5 star! The food is very good, lots of flavour and great poryions/great price! The staff is also really attentive and kind! Highly recommend, come support this great place!
Lamb was perfect
We come here as a family often, and the food is always excellent. Service is superb, particularly Simi, and Dave, the Owner, makes a point of saying hello to each table throughout the night. Highly recommend a vist if you havent been!
Simi gave us fantastic service and the food was very flavourful as well as well-priced on their special nights.
Great food and wonderful ambience best pub / restaurant in Cloverdale!
Went back today and just honestly disappointing. Service was good, but the quality of of the food has gone massively downhill . Likely will not be back after this unfortunately. Great spot. Their house made hot sauce is amazing. Fresh food, fair prices, and friendly staff.
Food was incredible, service was horrible. The hostess pointed to the back of the restaurant and said theres a table set up back there. They rolled their eyes when we asked for extra cutlery. If you dont mind bad service the food really is amazing, I wouldnt go back just based on the attitude of the staff.
Good fresh food with friendly service.
Great Indian food!!
Decent food, attached to hotel so very convenient and nice people (service).
Nice place and we liked the food.
Hostess were great food was good too
Very nice looking place with friendly staff. We went during off hours to just have some appetizers and drinks so it wasn t too busy.
Went there for a group event. Service was slow, food was just okay for the price.
I have too many bad things to say, but here is the kicker: When your 24.00$ burger comes faster than if you were at a drive thru - Red flag! Its not a good sign.
Went for Mothers Day brunch and was one of the worst, if not THE worst dining experience Ive ever had. Atmosphere - 1/5 The way the Mothers Day brunch was planned and executed was one of the most egregiously short-sighted moves I had ever seen, showing an absolutely disgusting level of disrespect for their customers. Place was packed to the brim, in the worst, possibly most unsafe way possible. The lineup for the buffet extended outdoors, and around the corner of the building- which warranted up to a 20 minute wait just to get your plate. While I can wait, I cannot tolerate people in wheelchairs and mobility issues having an incredibly hard time navigating the restaurant, given that additional tables were clearly packed into the restaurant, and seats were right up against the person behind you. People had to move their chairs and tables just to allow for these patrons to move. This was a clear safety violation, and should have been noted beforehand. What if there was a fire? We were seated right behind the buffet, which meant that our party had to scoot in our chairs or stand up to allow people behind me to move around in the middle of our meal. Service - 1/5 I will not blame the workers doing their job, however inexperienced they may be. What I will blame is management understaffing the service and overcrowding the restaurant. We did not receive any service beyond a simple any drinks? at the beginning of our meal- which isnt a surprise, given I saw one server manage in the ballpark of 70-80 people. They also ran out of dishes of all sorts. We had to use a dessert fork for our meal, and coffee cups for water since they had run out of their standard glasses. Food - 1/5 Now, I understand you cant expect the best from a hotel restaurant. However, for a brunch- the lunch options were lacking. By lacking, I mean absent, other than one roast beef carving station which dished out overcooked slices of roast. Additionally, food was clearly not replenished at a fast enough level, with many near-empty trays/bowls and food that had been soaking in its own juices. The dessert station was in disrepair, with the chocolate fondue fountain grasping onto dear life, and trays of cake being served on a shelf 5-6ft off the ground. Not the easiest setup for most. Food quality was incredibly mediocre. It was clear that things were being rushed out- things were not fresh. The worst culprit was a salmon eggs benedict I got having a huge lack of salmon and a completely solidified yolk (how long had it been poached for???) Overall - 1/5 Im not one to openly look for negativity in experiences, especially on Mothers Day. I tend to lean on the positive side. However, if this review either allows the restaurant to acknowledge its mistakes and ensure this never happens again, or warns YOU about booking Mothers Day brunch at this restaurant, then Im happy to write a review like this. Wheelchair accessibility: Wasnt accessible at all, instead dangerous. (please see atmosphere section of review)
Nice!!
Great nachos, lots of toppings layered throughout. Still under renovations, but looking really good. Nice staff, but seemed shy/timid and not very experienced. Food : 5/5
I recently went to celebrate my friends birthday and ordered steak and lobster with mushrooms Bill was 73$ which I have no problem with instead of medium rare the steak was well done and they forgot my lobster tail when I finally received the lobster tail it was not cooked enough thoroughly disappointed I left a 10% tip instead of my usual 15-18 % tip..
Good food and bar round tables are really nice sitting plan five to six persons group enjoy together. Staff is very friendly and service is very fast. I recommend this place for dining in.
Wonderful breakfast
my favorite cozy neighborhood restaurant. Truffle Ravioli is to die for.
Lucky for us, they had a large party cancel and were able to accommodate our walk in of 15. The service and food was exceptional but unfortunately they were not well educated on gluten allergies and despite repeatedly stressing one of our guests was celiac, they served her a menu item that was not GF. When we spoke to the manager he blamed the server and we thought that was extremely unfair. That is a training issue. Because everything else was great, they get a 4 star.
My dine out food of steak and lobster is ok. But environment is very very noisy which gave me headache and I couldnt enjoy the steak and lobster. I guess it would have been better if their dine out menu is pizza and beer.
The service is the worst and they are super slow. The food not different, it was so tasteless and it took forever to arrive at the table. Very disappointed.
Food was great. Steak and burger we tried. Service wasnt good, no offense to the waitress but she looked like brand new at the job with no proper training but such a sweetheart. Im sure with proper training she will do great. I do recommend this place though.
The food was not good unfortunately, we ordered lasagna and spaghetti meatballs. There was a weird taste and too much sauce in both these dishes (same kinda sauce) as for the server the young lady seemed a little confused, we asked for a wet wipe and she completely ignored us and made a circle and came back to us again. And we asked again, there were four of us in that table and she gave one wipe and left, we had to ask again for a wet wipe. The drinks are good tho, the cider was really good.
Great food, and good service. Will dine here next time.
The food was poor and was so small that we left to go eat. I had a beef that was less than six inches in length and about 3 inches in diameter. No cheese no horseradish such small side of fries it wasn t worth it. Wife s side salad was ingredient free except for lettuce. Would not recommend this restaurant. It s part of a hotel so I guess they have a built in clientele and do not need locals to come in. Server was very polite and apologetic and should work somewhere else. Parking: It was good.
Fantastic
My partner and I went in for the Valentines special and had some feedback on our steak and lobster dinners. The owner came back multiple times to check on us and discuss the issue and took both our meals off the bill. It was very unexpected and we are both very appreciative of the service we received this evening.
The food was bad ,, so much spice that I couldn t taste the food The grilled potatoes were not fresh the salad was a mush and the worst of all was a creepy guy who came to us gave me a rose ( Valentine s Day) and told me happy birthday and looked at my husband and said , I m sure you didn t buy anything for her Plus the food was super expensive,, m sorry but I don t recommend this place
Great food excellent service valentines day rose for my wife and personal inter action with the owner. Highly recommend b
Good eggs Benny, but the service seemed a little grumpy. My hash browns were undercooked, and so were the over easy eggs. Wouldn t suggest.
I was asked to leave immediately after my meal. Apparently licking the plates is frowned upon at this establishment but I assure you the couple at the table beside me said they were finished their meal! Seriously though, the Braised Ribs were absolutely fantastic. Thank you for the prompt service, and the great meal!
Please need to get a good cleaning. The salads way over price for which you get could use some cucumber or onions onions maybe some cheese something in it more than just mix green for $25 You get a little bit of mixed greens and 4 oz of beef if your lucky.
Great meal with Great service. I haven t been here for so long. It s completely new owner and totally different menu. We all enjoyed it !
Great food. Good place.
Quality and portions are great! I have never been disappointed in the food. Tasty and fresh, not your typical frozen, mass produced, chain restaurant quality.
Bad experience. Food is ok, service takes so long.. you have to wait for along time even to order a couple of drinks.. the desserts were horrible. The chocolate cake was sooo dry. Not value for your money.
Just had mothers day dinner with my girlfriend the buffet was awesome food was really good service was good definitely going to go back again
Mothers Day Dinner was excellent . Food was very good . Service could come around more and ask for refills and take our empty buffet plates. Otherwise excellent place. I will return!!
Only OK and over priced.
Everything about this restaurant is awesome!
Had a great meal. Everything tasted wonderful. Would dine here again. Excellent service.
We went for the Brunch buffet and everything was delicious. All the staff were friendly and helpful.
Very good food
Menu apparently changed two days ago from what is online. Prices were 25-30% higher than what is on their website, and selection is much smaller than what is online (ex. $20 for eggs, choice of meat and side). Looking at $19-$32 for basic sounding breakfasts. There was only one server was working, it wasnt her fault but took forever to even get menu. We didnt end up ordering with the lack of staffing, mid-construction ambience, limited and very expensive options.
Very good food. Best onion rings hands down. Service can be a tad slow in some days but that won t deter me from coming back.
Its still 9pm it shows restaurant is open but when i arrived its close never see this kind of restaurant .
Food was great! Friendly service. Atmosphere, so-so, however, it is being renovated at the moment so there is a reason for that.
It was our first time trying this restaurant. We ordered the turkey dinner to go. The turkey was cooked to perfection. The mashed potatoes were so delicious. The entire dinner was fantastic. Service was great. Food was ready on time. We will definitely be ordering food from here again.
Enjoyed meals here for a week straight while I stayed for a business trip. Tried almost everything on the menu absolutely outstanding!
Good place to have a good time
Our first time here. Should have left when I saw we were only people there at what should have been lunch rush. Service was slow, food barely edible. Not coming back. You get one chance to make good first impression and you blew it. Parking: lots of parking
Lasagne is amazing.
First time here and will definitely be back to try more menu items. I had the Tenderloin Steak Bites and the chocolate chip cookie for two. The steak bites were tender, juicy and very flavourful and the cookie was everything I could ask for in a chocolate chip cookie. The service was great and we did not have to wait long for our food or drinks. Our reservation was 6:30 and we were paying the bill by 8pm on a Friday which met our timelines.
Fabulous Waffles, excellent server experience and you found & kept my computer mouse from the last time I was there over 7 months ago!!!! So appreciate this greatly.
Nice place
Charcoal s is one of those hidden gems. Food is second to none and the renovation that was just completed looks fantastic. David and his staff are so friendly and do a great job looking after you, highly recommend Charcoal and Woodz. You won t regret it Parking: No problem parking
I ve been to this restaurant only a few times but it never disappoints! Recently attended an open house for their friends and guests to introduce their newly renovated space . Amazing! You must go and check it out! David Koonar, proprietor, is the most personable person who always says hello to all the guests and wants to know how they enjoyed their meal? That is not something that happens very often. Bravo!! Wheelchair accessibility: Is wheelchair accessible
Recently attended the reopening of C& W. The new renovation is bright modern and open. We always enjoy the food, selection, portions and service @ C&W and we have a collection of vancouver pizza fans hoping for a delivery if were out cloverdale way. Love the sholay! Well be back soon H&J
Excellent venue for events, delicious food, friendly staff, and the new renovations look amazing!
Charcoal and Woodz is a great restaurant. The owner and staff are friendly, attentive, caring and fun! The food is incredible, I havent ordered anything on the menu that I havent loved. The pasta is to die for! The space has been newly renovated and has a great atmosphere. Whether its a family function, celebration, date night or girls night, Charcoal and Woodz offers an amazing dining experience. Dietary restrictions: They take all dietary restrictions in consideration
Great food and people!!! Would highly recommend.
My husband and I had an awesome time at Charcoal & Woodz! The recent renovations made the place look amazing. We started with Tenderloin Steak Bites so yummy! I had the Charcoal & Woodz Burger, super juicy. My husband got Charcoals Special, and everything was just perfect. The atmosphere is great, and the staff is friendly. If you want delicious food and a cool vibe, Charcoal & Woodz is the place. Cant wait to go back!
My wife and I had an amazing time at Charcoal & Woodz after their recent renovation. The new look is stunning and created a fantastic atmosphere. We started with the Tenderloin Steak Bites super delicious. My wifes Charcoal & Woodz Burger was juicy, and my Charcoals Special was perfect. . Highly recommended for a great dining experience!
It was my first time here and I will definitely be back! The food is amazing, prices are reasonable, and customer service is fast and friendly :) I think they recently renovated so it looks brand new! Super cute place for a night out with friends.
Amazing renovations, its very open and spacious. Love bringing my friends and family! Always blown away by the food (especially the house-made pizza) and friendly staff!
Highly recommend dining at Charcoal & Woodz! We went with a large group of friends for dinner and drinks and found that everything from the atmosphere, drinks, food, service etc. was impeccable. We were very excited to learn that the owner did his culinary training in Italy and this definitely comes through in the quality of his food. PS: great place for private events as they have a beautiful section of the restaurant that can be rented out!
One of my favourite places to come with my friends for a good time! The food is consistently delicious and the service is great! The dim lights and music provide a relaxing atmosphere and vibe. Also, the prices are very affordable, considering the quality and amount of food youre getting. The restaurant recently went through a beautiful renovation which completely transformed the aesthetic. We had a wonderful time with friends recently. Side note: I highly recommend the chocolate chip cookie with ice-cream for dessert. You wont regret it! Yummm!!!!
Amazing food and atmosphere. A local gem with very friendly staff and an owner who takes pride in exceptional customer service. Our kids love all of the pasta dishes and deep dish pizzas. Try the hot sauce made in house as it s the best out there.
My wife and I met some friends here for dinner. The food and service was exceptional! The calamari, spinach and artichoke dip were delicious! We had the lamb and chicken Slovakia. Both were huge portions and were outstanding! We will definitely be going back!
Love this place for a romantic dinner or dinner with family. Renovations look unbelievable! Would highly recommend to a friend!
Full meh. Slow service, half of food was stone cold. Nothing special at all.
Asked for Ustensil on my delivery order through Skip the dishes. They did not put it in my order. I asked because i am at a warehouse and i have nothing here. I had to use a wooden Paint stick from Rona and make a fork on my table saw so i can eat my lasagna at christmas evening. Honestly, thats not acceptable at all. Skip didnt want to send an other driver to bring me a fork. Shame for both of your services. skip#366448407 24th december 2021
So many years away from home but Daves pasta recipe brought me back! Sweet traditional Greek and Italian spices made me feel at home. Tastes like I remember and my kids loved it. Hats off to Jenna and Simran for a total welcoming experience. Ill be back! Love your hot sauce Dave, it has some pickled flavor
UPDATE: Second visit, went well with just wife and kids, food great, service great. | Good food, good service. A little slow service tonight, but there was only one full waitress working this night, and always enough food for left overs.
Had the meat lovers pizza, it was stacked! Delicious, definitely recommend the pizzas.
One of two places I always go to for dine out. Yes, its that memorable and great food, excellent service even when slammed
The New York steak was kind of grisly this time..
Firstly, this is a Sports Bar, attached to a Holiday Inn Express. TV screens line the walls, the music is loud and the conversations even louder. As a pub, it gets 4 stars, were I to judge it as a nice Restaurant (Earls, The Keg) it would receive only 3 stars. My wife and I had the Dine out Vancouver prix fixe menu. 4 courses for $48, a bargain. Tomato basil soup was very good Chilie Chicken appetizer was excellent My main dish of baby back ribs was a generous, well prepared, full slab. Dessert choices were blueberry cheesecake and a rich chocolate cake, both delicious. The only downside were the potatoes and vegetables accompanying the meals were hospital cafeteria quality, should have asked for French fries and onion rings...
Our first indication that this restaurant was sub par should have been the letter z in its name. From the boring flatware with a complete lack of presentation to the uninspiring sauces seemingly squirted onto plates, this restaurant fits perfectly into the category of restaurant attached to motel. I sent my Thai bowl back. Ive enjoyed a lot of thai food in the past and this was not it. You cant open a jar of thai sauce, dump pre-cooked and diced chicken into it and expect anyone to enjoy their journey to flavor town. But hey they have beer. Hard to screw that up. If youre coming, come famished. You might get hammered enough to disregard the barely passable cuisine .
The service at this restaurant was really good. The food was a 3/5 at best. We came here for Dine Out Vancouver. The tomato basil soup was quite tart and thick. Not what I was expecting as a soup. I had the Jumbo Black Prawn cocktail. It came with only two pieces of prawn and was nice but it would be nicer to have one more prawn. My friend had the steak bites and they were plated in the most unappetizing way. Just thrown on the white plate without any garnishes. They were overcooked. I had the baby back ribs, which had the taste of thyme coming through the marinade. The ribs were tender and fell off the bone, but the taste of thyme was too much for me to fully enjoy these. The rest of our group had the steak and loved it. For dessert I had the chocolate sensation and it was perfect. Not too sweet and just the right size.
Went here with my family for the first time the other day. I was served a COMPLETELY raw chicken burger. Need I say more? Service was okay.
Nice atmosphere, food is average
Very disappointed in my meal, blackened chicken that was extremely spicy to the point I could not eat it. Not advertised as spicy on the menu. Credit yo the server she took it off the bill without me asking....
Restaurant wasnt very busy, reservations were definitely not needed. Food was meh. I wasnt very impressed with my meal (pork belly to start, salmon with caesar on the side), but the rest of my party really enjoyed theirs (Thai chicken bowl and farmers daughter pizza). Maybe mine was just a miss. The caesar salad was bland, too much sauce on the pork belly, and there could have been less pistachios piled on top of the salmon.
Im not sure if I wanna go back, the food was okay. Just didnt feel excited going there.
Went there to try advertised Pasta Night Special advertised at $10.95 on Tuesdays. Food was good but when we received bill it was $16.95 x 2 ,we ordered meatballs and were charged $6.00 instead of $4.00 ( on menu) Please explain !
Meal was well prepared and would recommend it
Food and drinks both meh to mediocre at best. Staff are amazing and very friendly tho ! (Chili chicken, chicken burger, Cesar & white sangria)
Good service and good food. Would return for sure.
Its not bad but not great either. Met friends from out of town there. Too bad it was a rainy Monday. The server was pleasant & helpful. Not a great menu, however Covid times may have restricted their options in this regard.
Great food and service. We had the pizza and wings and it was delicious
Wish there was a zero star. On my phone when I google Charcoal & Woodz shows up with the following: Overview, Menu, Reviews, Updates. I clicked on menu, you then get Take-Out, Happy Hour, Daily Specials, Breakfast, Sunday Brunch, Lunch, Dinner and Dessert. ..... so, from the Dinner Menu I ordered Humus price shows $8.00 when I placed my order 3 orders of humus it should be $24.00 right. Well, the lady taking my order says that it will the $34.00. I asked $34.00 when I total it I come up with $24.00..........she goes......... here see the menu here says $11.00........no I dont see your menu as Im ordering on-line. Either way I place my order and show up 20 mins later. The same lady show me the menu and say see this menu. I responded, when Im online I see the menu on the screen and not this one that you are showing me. Then another lady shows up introducing herself as the owner and she proceeds to tell me the same thing. What I see on my phone is what I see............the owner than tells me its Googles fault not theirs. During dinner, I brought this issue up and was told its not Googles fault. Owners of business are responsible to update their own profile. I was told that most restaurants actually honor that prices that are post on-line! Must say the owner was very arrogant, no apology or anything like that. All I got was its Googles fault. I paid the $34 and walked away. BEWARE when you order!!!!!!!!!!! NOT IMPRESSED WITH THE WAY THE OWNER HANDLED THIS ISSUE!!!! This to me speaks volume of how the owners are!! To bad as the waiters may be the best but when issues come up, it the owners have a last input.
This is a hidden gem in Surrey. Highly recommend have only had appetizers but they were all delicious
Very good food! The portion sizes are great and the quality is incredible. Was very surprised by what we got and would definitely come back.
Ordered a burger: good patty but it came cold, cheese not even melted, looking like it came straight out of the fridge. Wife had a rib sandwich. Tasted good but the meet was not tender, and she could not chew. Fries on both were cold, fired in old oil. Loud 50 s music. Poor service. Waiter needs a vacation. Not coming back.
Great restaurant, good service, good food selection with few all good choices ro pick. The Happy hour is also good.
The service and food are awsome.....a great place for one on one time.
Went there for mothers day brunch. They overbooked at it was obvious in the service and quality of the buffet. Our server went the extra mile to make sure we were looked after so kudos for him. Not sure what the service is there usually but I will probably book somewhere else next mothers day.
Someone put their fingers in cake Pasta is cold Fish is bones bones and ham short supply of food
It was a good mothers day buffet lots of variety
I am a chef and trained in hotels for many years.... Food taste was 5/10 Ambiance 8/10 for a family sports bar Attached to a hotel. Quality 3/10 Service 3/10 Value 2/10 Buffett Attendance 1/10 I wanted it to be more but it just wasnt. We went for mothers day and website said Buffett open 5 to 10. our reservation was for 7,30. We arrived an were seated quickly. Drinks took 15 minuted to arrive at our Table from our waitress who was non attentive looked and tired? In her defence she may have worked the whole of mothers day? Ok so we got up to checkout the buffet. It looked picked over with the only thing looking fresh was the chef carved roast beef and ham. So we went back to our seats to wait a few minutes and hoped we were in between seatings and theyd restock it soon. Well 25 mintues after our arrival we decided to give it a go. The fruit., meat and cheese trays were at 25% and looked un kept and picked over. The home made salmon gravlox was stocked and one of the best items on the buffett. As we worked our way down the salads were quality but nothing special.....The 3 salad dressing were made in house and very good quality. Now the hot items, The rice was at 50 % and barley warmed, the fried potatoes were tastey but way overcooked and blown apart The mashed spudes were again 50 % full and the salmon at least it was a full tray, basic seasoned well but way over cooked and dry. The mushroom ravioli with truffle oil cream sauce was very good with 2 exceptions. Again barley warm, it was not stocked until our second trip up then it was hot. The spoons had all fallen into their dishes and were covered in sauces and never wiped or replaced. I ended up serving my guest with one spoon from the rice. the Butter chicken was very tasty but again luke warm. The mango chutney salmon was completely un edible looking as it was scraped into a pile all mashed up, I did not try it. The full tray of Chicken thighs in some kind of a nice flavoured voulute would have been spectacular if it was both hot and not over cooked. In our 45 minutes and 2 trips they only restocked the salad and the pasta the rest was like eating someones leftovers. Oh the beef and demiglace was really good. The desert bar was restocked right as we needed it The pastries were home style and tastey but not exicuted professionally. At 50 minutes after our arrival we were told that the buffett was closing. So much for 10 pm. We were already in the midst of a lack luster event and this was the cherry on top. Charcoal and Woodz has the ability the offer great food and amazing flavors but fell short in far too many areas to risk spending $39 per person for a $19.99 experience again. I so wanted it to meet its web sites claims of local fresh ingredient professionally prepared , with all fresh in house sauces. But it was just not able to deliver.
Over-prices and not very tasty (no flavour). Drinks were good but quite expensive. Wouldn t eat here unless no other options.
Had a grand time, chatting with cousins of many levels (2nd cousins, etc). Food was excellent.
Great food and service
7 adults + 4 little kids enjoyed the Fathers Day buffet brunch recently. There was a wide selection of hot & cold foods, fruits & deserts. Everything was great - the food, the setting & the staff. They didnt have my favourite beer but they had a good selection; I was not disappointed.
Overpriced and not impressed
4 of us went in on a Sunday night and had fantastic dinners! The Curry dishes were great and so were the pasta dishes. Very good place! We will be back!
Great environment and decor. The lamb shoulder was super filling and delicious!
This place is definitely somewhere for fantastic pizza I found this a secret Goldmine friendly service
We recently had a reception here and the buffet was 5 star All our guests enjoyed the food and wow it was delicious!
My wife and I hadour wedding reception there on August 27th, 2022 and we had a great time. Ordered dinner for 50 people of various selections great tasting food that was enjoyed by all that we heard from! We were able to decorate by 10 am for a 5:30 reception. Some tables were moved to make room for a little dancing area after we ate. We could have stayed until 11 but most left by 8 or 9 pm. We would recommend this venue and food to anyone. One of the best food choices we have ever tasted. Much appreciation for the staff and Mr. Koonar for the help in making it a memorable and special night.
Nice warm atmosphere and very good service. 1 of our orders was a flatbread with olives and sundried tomatoes. No olives to be seen. We were told they were in the sauce. It was good but they gave us some olives to put on top. Not much in terms of craft beer as they seems to serve mostly the big name labels.
Nice and cool place to chill in Cloverdale
Bad service and worst wood ever.. There was Canucks live match going on, so we asked the server if she could turn down music volume and turn up hockey match tv volume.. she agreed to it but never actually did it.. didnt even come to tell us if it was not possible. We ordered wings as it was wings Wednesday.. it was worst food ever.. wings were burnt and even the oil used for frying wings was so old.. we could taste that the oil was used so many times for frying food.. i mean at least take efforts to change that frying oil frequently.. No great atmosphere.. not even worth one star..
Pints of Stella. Good food. Great atmosphere.
His homeade hotsauce is out of this world! Should of bought a bottle when I had the chance
The jalapeno margarita was fantastic! Then the food came and was utterly delicious! Definitely a win going in on Tuesday which is pasta night! Cant wait to go back!
We held a business networking event there in the morning last Friday, in conjunction with the local Chamber of Commerce. The event went very well, the food and service were excellent. We were made to feel welcome and the venue served the event very well.
My friend and I both had a great shrimp dish very good
Came here to try to eat some steak but wasrefused due to a private party, cool no big deal. Came here again the next night still trying to eat a steak and was refused because they decided to close an hour twenty minutes early. I just want to eat a steak.
This is a fairly okay establishment in our experience. It took about 5 minutes for the waiting staff to notice us and have us seated. This was understandable as it appears only one staff member was working as the server and also managing the bar. In terms of television, various NBA games were on which makes this a great place to go watch major sports games. In terms of the food, we ordered the chicken parmesan and mushroom ravioli pasta. The portion size was great and we definitely felt full after the meal. The food quality was okay and the last few bites were each getting less appetizing than the one before. Overall, Im giving this place a 4 star review because the food was fine and so was the service experience. In comparison to more upscale establishments such as earls, cactus, this restraurant would be given a lower review but its definitely a 4 star for a sports bar!
Such great people! Love the service. Glad you are still up and running with covid! Im also glad the place is clean with covid safety! Definitely recommended!
So as I stumble upon what seems to be a great establishment, I immediately ordered the Portobello Mushroom Burger under the disguised perception that thy burger had meat and creamy mushroom sauce. As one bites into the beautifully crafted burger, thy has witnessed a sensation of pure bliss as I have tasted the greatest mushroom burger in my life. But Alas! the surprise doesnt end there and to my astonishment, I realized that thy burger was an ACTUAL mushroom burger and I was flabbergasted. Ive had my reservations with vegans but thy burger has soften my gaze on beings that do not delight the marvel that is meat. I recommend this from the bottom of my loins. No troll.
Always great food and good atmosphere!
Great food & service.
Customer service was terrible first of all. Took forever just to be seated and then had to search for someone for the bill. The prices were pretty average but food was not the best. With better customer service and some tweeks in recipes this place has lots of potential but just didnt do it for us this time around.
Weve recently moved into the area and the restaurant is fairly close. My husband and I wanted to have a nice dining experience during the Dine Out Vancouver 2021 event. The experience was dismal at best. We made reservations for 7pm, told our server that we didnt want to rush the meal as we wanted to enjoy a few drinks. We were finished 4 courses and paid by 8:10. The service was equivalent to cafeteria service and the food was poorly displayed and didnt taste much better. The chocolate cake had obviously been sliced and plated much earlier in the day. It was crusty from being dried out on the edges and the chocolate drizzle was frozen on the plate. Its best suited as a sports bar to get a beer and have some fries. It was costly at $44pp and I would not recommend this place.
This take out menu costs $44. The amount of the two cakes are significantly different. Shouldnt the staff be trained for cutting? The package is bad compared even to other cheaper restaurants (I have ordered take-out over Surrey, Langley, Richmond, Coquitlam, Burnaby and Vancouver). One of the big box just contained two shrimps. Shouldnt be this in the smaller container? The soup and steak bites tastes like 5-stars but other dishes are 1-2 stars in my opinion. They cited good reviews only but it is a small world. The most recent good review in facebook is from the fitness instructor from my social network. Then I let her and her colleagues (also my friend) know.
Got the Eat Vancouver 2021 special to go. It was great. We will definitely be back to dine in.
BEST FOOD EVER
What a rebound of an experience, we had the dineout Canada experience and our first 2 courses were pretty good. But our mains had 2 overcooked steaks out of 6 people. We told the manager and said we were fine but then the owner came out and asked if he could do anything to make it right. We said no, were fine a couple of times but after a bit we finally said we wouldnt mind ice wine. He got all the ladies ice wines and refilled our beers for free. What a gentleman! Truly showed the restaurants true colors and theyre great. I will definitely come back in the future.
Average service, food was ok. Calamari was terrible but the onion rings are really good. Most food seems like it just comes frozen in a bag from Sysco or something. The pizza was actually pretty good, if you go I would definitely gravitate to the pizza section.
The food was ok, ambiance was lacking, servers were lacking in experience.
Expensive and extremely oily. My son would not eat his spaghetti which had an odd flavour maybe cinnamon.
Horrible experience. The veggie lasagna was sub par and not worth the $16.00. The vegetables were chunky without layers. The sauce was well seasoned. I ate half and threw the rest out because the old man serving us had his fingers inside the take out container. The house red wine was stale and not replaced though I paid for it. The wine glasses were dirty and condiments were not sanitized before being picked from another table with guests and placed on our table. I did receive a complimentary shower from their patio sprinklers.
Good food. Good service. I started with humus and bread - the humus appeared to be fresh and made in the kitchen. My steak salad was delicious with perfectly tender marinated beef. My dads sort ribs were by his report delicious. All their food is great - chef takes pride in his dishes. It was the hottest day of they year the the staff was run off their feet. Probably a bit short staffed with an unusually busy Monday night people looking for a break from the suffering heat. We enjoyed the AC while we watched the hockey game and we were eating within 40 mins of our arrival. It was noisier than usual with the AC going full blast, the hockey game audio on, and some noisy tables - the sound echos on the tile floor. But it wont stop me from going back.
Not very happy ,salad was yuky and desert took 45 min to come out. the owner excused was that he short staff and after putitng the complaint online he ask me to call and still denied that service was his fault as he was short staff the whole famly ate there and spent 100.00 He kicked me out from hockey game as he say i was using the whole table and that there was a time limit during a hockey stantley finals when indeed there was other table empty i would never go there again and this reflex the hotel and his service time to change the resturaunt from hotel
Now lets be honest when you order appies and starters they meant to share..now we ordered scallops and for $20 we got a big plate of salad and 3 tiny scallops... the waitresses are great!! the manager Dave is a real piece of work we complained and he basically told us to eat it and deal with it. He is rude and completely against customer service he yelled at his waitress and took it out on her when she let him know we werent happy. Food wasnt anything to write home about. Over priced for what it is.
Always a good experience love the food everything always amazing
I took my son there for a boys night. We had pizza which he said was the best pizza - ever and this kid knows pizza!!! Mine was on the salty side but that was likely because of the meat rather than the cooking process. The restaurant was clean and although quiet it had a good atmosphere. Plenty of sports tv s on with no sound so we could hear ourselves talk. The food was good, the beer and coke was cold and the service was excellent. Our server stopped by to make sure everything was ok and that we didn t need anything. I highly recommend this place.
First time checking Charcoal and Wood and order the pizza. Boston Pizza who??? Very delicious and well made deep crust pizza. I would highly suggest this place, will be back again.
ordered chicken parmesan, had a odd smell and came burnt, there was no flavor and needed salt. Wasnt great place for food! Stella beer was watery from tap, didnt complain much. just paid and left
Worst restaurant,we ordered shrimp tempura and chicken parmesan.it was the worst dish Ive ever had.the chicken was old smelly n cheese was burnt n the gravy was the worst.n when told them they didnt even care to apologize.you seriously need to rethink about menu n cooking
Glad we chose this venue! Nachos were awesome, proper pub nachos. The drinks were good and decent priced also. Website needs to be updated for two reasons, one, they don t have ladies night on Fridays anymore but two and more importantly, they don t highlight the amazing service enough. The servers had smiles the entire night and it was the best service I have received from any restaurant in a long time. They value their customers. The owner David was very friendly and cared to have conversations with each and every patron there. They made us feel like we were familiar to them already and it was only our first visit there. I ll defo go back!!!!
Food and drinks are fairly priced. Food tasted ok. I just didnt like waiting 5-6 minutes just to be seated and the smell of the lasagna and the pizza was a bit cold.
EXCELLENT service and the food was beyond good. Drinks were never empty and the staff didnt seem to be rushed. Was halfway into my meal when I was asked to take the picture. Good sized portions. We were there for an Anniversary dinner but patrons were also sitting at the bar enjoying appies and a beer. Relaxed but elegant atmosphere.
Great Service, delicious food, and a wonderful atmosphere. The chef even came out to say hello! This was our first time here, and we will certainly return soon.
Ordered on ubereats. This is the chicken parmesan. $23 on their ubereats and website menu, for a small piece of overcooked chicken and a laughably tiny portion of pasta. As seen in the picture, the chicken isnt even sitting on top of more pasta, what you see is it. Given the price, I would have thought the portion would be better, or if it was a small portion, at least it would of phenomenal quality. Instead I got the worst of both. I really hope for the sake of the restaurant that this is a case of new kitchen staff, or maybe someone having a REALLY off day because if theyre consistently sending this out the door I cant imagine good things in their future.
I got the chicken parmesan as takeout from here and to say it was a disappointment would be an understatement. The dish is $23 so I was expecting something a bit more substantial. When I got the box it felt kind of light so that was already the first sign that something was off. Once I opened it I realized how tiny the portion of food is. Underneath the chicken theres literally like two forkfulls of pasta. The chicken itself tasted terrible, super dry and really sweet for some reason. After cutting into it I looked at the chicken and it just didnt look that fresh, definitely went from taken out of the freezer and straight onto a pan. Its sad to think that I could have made a better version of this than the restaurant. I rarely leave negative reviews but this place warranted one as it baffles me how they could even consider serving this to a customer.
Food and service was great..
Not a typical pub menu but excellent food all around. Owner is a great guy. He comes out and talks to patrons and remembers you next time.
Way better then average hotel pub/restaurant! A nice little surprise when I booked the hotel. The menu is unique. Some nice, out of the ordinary menu items. They were made fresh, but perhaps a bit simple. Fresh always is better and it shows. The place was much busier then I expected, so that show the locals appreciate this little gem as well. Long live Dave and his hot sauce! Try the mussels. You won t be disappointed!
We had the best Best New England Clam ChowderToday. Our Server Simran is Awesome. She is very friendly .We have tried almost everything on the menu and never a disappointment .I would definitely rate them a10 star. The food is awesome. This is our favorite place.
Best lasagna Ive had in years! Will definitely come back again. Good service excellent food.
I had the good luck of booking my hotel right beside this gem of a restaurant while traveling to Surrey for work.. Staff is super helpful and knowledgeable as well as immensely patient, it took me an hour to order because I was too busy doing work at the bar I had the opportunity to meet Dave behind the bar as he was kind enough to help me decide which drink I wanted order, I even asked him to surprise me with his beer of choice It was only later that I found out Dave is the owner of the restaurant after someone brought out hot sauce with he face on it! The seafood pasta is amazing I ran out of pasta and not seafood because there was so much of it in my dish!!! My friend skip says the Pizza is fantastic I ve been here twice for dinner in three days and it s absolutely NOT because it s convenient
It is a dining lounge/sports bar. Clean restaurant with nice seating arrangement. The server, Kiran, was very professional and polite. The food was average. If I am to return to this restaurant, it will be for the restaurant, not the food.
Excellent breakfast. Will go again!
this place made me honeslty wanna jump off a bridge symbolically because of how bad the chicken strips are like to be honest id rather drive a chevy then eat there. - carson. when i was younger, all i dreamed of was chicken strips. i eat, sleep, and breathe chicken strips. i went into this restaurant with high hopes. my unborn children recommended this place, and frankly, i was more than let down. i don t know how to describe how much of a disgrace this restaurant is towards chicken strips. do better, shawty. - arisah
Great service and delicious food everytime.
Somehow I forgot about this place after a couple years since our last visit. This place is a gem. The menu/food is original and tasty. Great background music and a lovely atmosphere. We will definitely be back soon!
Food and service were absolutely perfect. Waitress went above beyond.
I would highly recommend this place to everyone! They have amazing food, and I cant wait to come back :)
Loved the vegetarian pizza and the veggie lasagna ! The service was great and I definitely recommend their hot sauce !
I stopped here for dinner and Honestly, I loved the food and the ambiance of the restaurant. Great service and friendly staff...
They have good food, and its pretty consistent each time you go.
My girlfriend and I come here regularly, they have freshly sanitized menus and sanitizer available at the door. Friendly staff and delicious food, vegetarian options available for any non meat eaters, and a large menu. The best Caesar in town
Nice hotel bar. Great happy hour selections. Good customer service.
Great place to enjoy amazing food, good relaxing atmosphere, & big TVs. Daily specials and the pizza is exceptional. The owner, Dave, has the passion to serve and it shows.
Good food and a great place to have a few beers and watch the game
Great location for a quiet lunch. Food is great and plentiful oh, probably the best pizza Ive had in years. Went on a Thursday and had $10 off a bottle of wine, cant beat that. Definitely go again.
Best Seafood Linguine I ever tasted!
We do take out twice a month at work and this month was spectacular thanks to the associate who ordered us Charcoal and Woodz. Talk about perfect take out. At first I was JELOUS of all my associates who ordered the pasta, I could see them drooling from afar... smelt amazing, but then I DOVE into my maple butter pistachio encrusted salmon and I felt they should be the jealous ones... Beautifully cooked salmon and delicious side dish of mixed veggies and saffron rice it was mind blowing. I still cant believe all the pistachios just boosted the already amazing flavor 10 fold. Will eat here again is a understatement.
Its a wonderful spot..the atmosphere is soft and private...
There were several issues with this place during my visit. Nobody to greet us at the door, so we sat ourselves. They appeared to have 1 waitstaff on a Saturday evening. She was great, but the place was understaffed. Ive only ever sent 1 meal back to the kitchen, and it was the spaghetti and meatballs from this place. $24 gets you a bowl of undercooked noodles bathing in an oily sauce not even reminiscent of a bolognese. My girlfriend ordered the souvlaki, and the chicken was decent, but the potatoes that came with it were grey and undercooked. Not at all a great experience here
Great place for those who have no taste... Came in on a Saturday night and after waiting at the door for several minutes we decide to seat ourselves. When we went to place our orders two of the three dishes we ordered were out of stock. (The waitress had already came to the table and introduce herself, but failed to mention this until we were trying to order.) After choosing different dishes we tried to order a second time, but again one of the new dishes we tried to order was also not available (and we had not been informed). Third times the charm we got our order, but what came out was less than desirable. The potatoes in the Souvlaki were grey and crunchy when cut into. The noodles in the Bolognese were under cooked and the sauce did not taste at all like Bolognese. It appeared the waitress was working the floor by herself on a Saturday night. I think she was trying her best, but the place was very understaffed. I do not recommend.
