Nestled in the heart of Surrey, Old Surrey Restaurant is the culinary life force of fine dining this side of the Fraser. Founded in 1974, the Old Surrey serves up fresh, inspired dishes with local ingredients including lamb and veal from the family’s Chilliwack farm. The Aguirres have created a standard of excellence, not only in the kitchen but also in their service, which combines the perfect blend of sophistication and comfort. The Old Surrey has been voted Top 100 Restaurants in Canada in 2014 and 2015 by Open Table, and Top 100 Most Romantic Restaurants in Canada 2022. Then and always the Old Surrey is an essential part of Surrey’s landscape – historically, physically, socially.
There were four in our party. We all opted for the four course Fall Special. The courses were seared scallops; Caesar salad made at the table (the best I have had in over 20 years!); beef tenderloin topped with crab and bernaise sauce, accompanied by potatoes and broccoli. Dessert was a delicious lemon tart, a small crepe and ice cream. The food was exceptional! The restaurant offers a flight of three wines (either red or white, but not a mixed flight). We each ordered a wine flight which took a long time to arrive. Our sense was that our waitress had to pour the 12 glasses of wine in addition to her other duties. The staff was pleasant and engaging. All in all, it was a wonderful evening! I highly recommend this restaurant!
Came here for my husband’s birthday, first time trying it out. Atmosphere was very nice, definitely nice to see a restaurant like this in the neighbourhood. Definitely reminds me of The Hart House in Burnaby. Food was good, I had the duck breast cooked Medium and my husband had the steak. We loved it, only thing was the charred peach that came with my dish, didn’t expect it to be canned but I also understand food cost these day is rough, just wasn’t expected.
I recently took my extended family here for dinner and a birthday celebration, and I must say, the place is full of character with its heritage building. The food was excellent, featuring lots of classic nostalgic items. We were a party of 8, and the bill was surprisingly reasonable despite ordering appetizers, drinks, entrees, and multiple desserts. The service was top-notch, and the staff was accommodating when it came to dietary restrictions. It's no wonder this place has been in business for so long – they serve classic, quality food.
This was the first time we visited this restaurant. We celebrated our anniversary and found it as good as others had described it to us. Ample portions of flavorful food in each course. Many items prepared table side but it did take the service away from other patrons. Pefrect to celebrate any special occasion.
We had food here for a wedding reception. Love the interior, and meals were amazeballs. Never would I have said I'd actively take my girl out on a date in Surrey until that day.
A very interesting and disappointing experience. My husband took me to The Old Surrey House last night to celebrate my 82nd birthday. It’s a long time since I have experienced social profiling as for my work - and (yes - at 82 I still work) I travel extensively and have visited many of the best restaurants in the world. We are old and not of the In crowd. We were dressed conservatively and I wasn’t wearing my diamonds. Here is our experience and you can judge for yourself: - arrived at 6:30 and left immediately after finishing our desserts (we didn’t have coffee) at 9 pm. We did not receive our first course until 7:45 - two requests to receive ice for my glass of wine - two other tables in our section received a bread basket. We had to ask for ours - one table received an amuse busche - with an explanation as to what this was Our table and the other did not - I had a la carte and my husband the Spring Special - the mussels were gritty, not fresh and the broth over salted and obviously under whelming. - I had to ask for a spoon and no bread was served. This is where we asked for our bread basket Not worth the $25 charges. - my husbands French onion soup was reasonable but again nothing special - the knife given my husband had crusted old food on it - I am including photos of our main plates. My Pepper Steak came in two pieces - medium and not medium rare. The pepper sauce showed no evidence of peppercorns or pepper flavour - my husbands pork schnitzel was cremated and very dry - desserts were great. Nothing but compliments here For once I didn’t complain as there was just too much - we just paid the significant bill and left Obviously we will not return -
We had my Mothers 81st birthday here. Nicolas, Michael & Robbie were professional, fun & efficient making our dining experience fantastic. Highly recommend you get the table side caesar salad a highlight of the night! We will be back Thank you
We went to Old Surrey House Restaurant last week for a family dinner. We took the last remaining reservation at 5pm when they just opened and it was a very slow start. We were seated right away but our server seemed to be running around even though the restaurant was empty, perhaps preparing for guests to arrive. To drink, I got a half bottle of Gewürztraminer and my hubby got the Four Winds nectareous beer on tap. They gave us complimentary bread and amuse-bouche to start. We ordered the crab dip, burger, Chateaubriand steak for 2 and seafood fettuccini. The crab dip is deliciously hot, cheesy and crabby. The house made tortillas go splendidly with it. The burger patty is huge! It was made with medium doneness, was very juicy and seasoned really well. I’ve never raved about mustard before but their mustard is not your typical French’s mustard. It has a very sharp and crisp taste, it’s hard to explain but it was so good! The fries were addictive, I couldn’t stop stealing some from my teen. The seafood fettuccini was very saucy and generous with the seafood. My daughter, however, was not the biggest fan because it is made with Sambuca and the flavour is quite forward in the dish. We found that it could use more seasoning as well. The biggest hits were the steak and the dessert. The steak was prepared table side and it was really fun to watch when they added the cognac to the skillet causing the flames to dance! The steak is SO tender and they also prepare the mushrooms and gravy on the skillet with the flame. It came with fried mashed potatoes which were pretty good, the veggies were okay. The dessert however was very memorable. The kids meal comes with the Chocolate Pâté but with cookie crumbs instead of the raspberry coulis. It wasn’t overly sweet and was rich and velvety. Even though the service started slow, our servers were great-really friendly and funny. We would definitely return for a fancy dinner out, they know how to impress with their proteins!
I visited Old Surrey Restaurant in a party of 5 on a Wednesday evening around 5:45PM. A few of us ordered from the Winter Set Menu, $90, which includes 4 courses. I ordered the Seafood Fettuccine and my husband ordered Rack of Lamb. - The Rack of Lamb was cooked nicely and portion was good for the price. - The Fettuccine was tasty too, but I could do without the mini shrimp (there were bigger shrimp too), and would be even better if there were more noodles. The presentation of some of the items were better than others: in particular, the shrimp appy on the special menu looked a little thrown together (but tasty). One friend ordered the prawn appy off the regular menu (Jumbo Prawn Diablo), but the prawns didnt look all that jumbo and seemed the same size as the winter special shrimp. The tableside Caesar salad was fun to watch. Standard options for dessert such as cheesecake, mousse cake, and creme brulee. I had the creme brulee, which was normal. Service was okay. Staff were overall friendly. We didnt feel rushed so we could enjoy the meal at our pace. One of our party wanted more seasoning in their pasta, so it is unfortunate that no one came by after main plates were served to offer pepper and ask if we needed anything. This is a pretty solid restaurant that seems family-run, I would return again.
The best food in Surrey, we have been there many times with my family, we highly recommend special menu for two They offer table service, it was a great service and look. Hahaha!
Parking: A few designated restaurant parking but there were plenty towards the gravel side. Loud speakers blaring from the lot over Food
This is a long time family favorite for special occasions. A true hidden gem.
Good food & service Wheelchair accessibility: They should have a ramp for wheel chairs.my mother had to walk the stairs with help she couldnt use her walker Food : 5/5 |
office christmas party served by tai and it was fun Vegetarian options: brucetta is very good Food : 3/5 |
The rack of lamb was cooked perfectly and service was on point. Will definitely go back.
Appreciate if they do not over book the seating - we waited for 30 minutes !!!! Making dinner even later. Good service and excellent table side salad !!! I have been coming hear for quite a few years. Note that parking can be a challenge. Good French cuisine.
Love this place. A little place to spoil yourself in Surrey. Wonderful French food and great service!
Awesome every time
Good food, good service and a relaxing atmosphere at a fair price. In my opinion, one of the best restaurants in Surrey. We will be back. Food
Been here a few times, the tableside Caesar salad is what keeps bringing me back. The meat dishes are okay but the seafood came out lukewarm and wasnt very fresh. Good, attentive service. The restaurant needs a deep cleaning though. I noticed the chair backs as well as the bud vases on the table are in need of a good clean.
Best romantic restaurant in Surrey. Parking: Small parking lot. Food : 5/5 |
Prior to posting, I did leave two voicemails and an email on the webform and have recd zero response. When you pay at the till and NO ONE ASKS how your dinner was, then the Servers know how bad the food is. I booked a Thursday and hoped we would have the attention of the main chef. 5 of 6 of us ordered the full menu Chateaubriand ($99/each) and one person the seafood platter. Every step was disappointing. Dry toast under the olive tapenade. Dry bread in the bread basket. Cold Prawn Appetizer was a shrimp (shrimp ring shrimp) appetizer, cool to the touch and maybe a 32 count prawn size and THREE only? The tableside ceasar salad was largely inedible because of too much vinegar and was accompanied by a dissertation by the server discussing burning his arm hair off under the salamander... Then the Chateaubriand came out. He hacked away at it with a steak knife. The sauce was blasé and flourey. The potatoes dauphin were little hard balls of boring potato, akin to a tater tot. The bernaise was watery and lemony inedible. We had to ask for salt. The cherries jubiliee were mainly sauce and booze over ice cream. The amount of cherries I had in mine equated to TWO whole cherries. Let us not leave the SEAFOOD PLATTER unaddressed. Lobster, extra salty and likely unrinsed after its hibernation. The oyster sauce was unidentifiable (and the baked oyster was cold), the fish lacked any kind of seasoning for a herbed crust... and the prawns were shrimp again... cold with a chopped veg on top. At $800 (with tip) we were all horrified and no one wanted to complain as it was TWO birthday participants. TWO! We were all disappointed and I was SUPER upset as this was a birthday gift. Service was lackadaisical, except for the young man who brought us water and tracked the servers down. Why we needed to sit and wait for THREE hours to be released from this nightmare, I do not know. I myself had to request service multiple times including the bill. Six people, a birthday event, 1 round of drinks, 3 hours of time and the food was horrible for $800 bux?! It should have been funny but it wasnt. Having eaten there before, my new recommendation is just dont.
My son s wedding reception was held at Old Surrey Restaurant last night. All I can say is, it s top notch with its venue, food and service. We and all the wedding guest at the reception had felt so contented with everything. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone! Food
We had our wedding reception/dinner here with 32 people. Service and food was great all the way through from helping us park to serving and finishing up our dinner. All our guests enjoyed the food and were satisfied at the end They went above and beyond for us and fulfilled some requests as well. Definitely recommend this beautiful restaurant!
This was a totally random find for a first date, and it turned out to be an excellent choice. Very charming ambiance, polite server, and excellent food. Started with a glass of Riesling, and a Hazelmere Martini which was delish. We both had Caesar salads which were prepared at the table - rare these days - and were very good. Our entrees consisted of 1 ribeye steak, and 1 seafood platter which were both very tasty. My only very minor criticism that prevented five stars across the board was that used plates and empty glasses were not cleared right away. That said, I wouldnt hesitate to return or recommend this restaurant to friends and family.
First mistake was turning into the staff parking lot by mistake; heck of a time getting back out in cramped quarters. Service was attentive yet not intrusive; long hair on one server should be tied back. Portion size conservative. Sauces didnt do it for us but could be due to our non-alcohol habits. Could do with more poultry or fish options for the non-red-meat eaters out there in abundance today. Very cool atmosphere; too bad it just doesnt belong in that section of the Lower Mainland. Seems like a lot of repeat customers from the conversations we overheard. I prefer The Keg for a good steak though. Vegetarian options: Limited. Everything has rich sauces. Cater to the health conscious too please.
Has character given this is an old house turned into a restaurant. Food is of the quality you would hope for and expect at restaurant like this. Portions are of decent size. Not one negative thing I could say about this place. Will keep this place in mind for next time we want to eat this style of food
Best steak!
Service wow food very wow Ambience perfect
Madam, I am celebrating my 63rd birthday. My children took me to eat Western food. Because I cannot eat beef for personal reasons, I chose duck meal. This restaurant is near my home. It is my first time to come here and the decoration is very conservative and preserves the retro feel. It has been open for 50 years. It s not simple. The texture of the steak is very delicious, but the duck steak still has room for improvement. The quiet dining space is quite good. The specific set menu also has tableside service The final dessert is full of fun and it s a very happy day
We left a 15% tip and were harassed while trying to leave for not giving a better tip. We were forced to give more.
We went here for the first time to celebrate our anniversary. Really impressed! The food was great, the service was fantastic. Love the table-side preparation of Caesar salad, Spanish coffee, and Crepes Suzette. Nice atmosphere. Quite good value compared to other restaurants, too. We will definitely be back.
Old Surrey is unique in so many ways. The food is fabulous, delicious and awesome when it is prepared and flamed right at your table. The service is excellent, the best anywhere. Nick, Rob, Mike and Connor make every dining experience magical. The atmosphere is elegant and sophisticated. I recommend this fine dining restaurant for every occasion.. first date first anniversary.. or in our case our 44 th anniversary and our tenth time enjoying this beautiful restaurant.
Love the food and inside is a vibe!
Wondeful classic place! Highly recommended.
Our reservations were for 7pm. My husband was on time where as I came a 8 min later. I was seated right away and a few min after a family of 6 was seated beside us! While we sat and waited the family of 6 had their drink orders taken, drinks brought to them, and food orders taken. Their appetizers arrived THEN a server came with a menu, Gave it to us and left! Our orders ( drinks and food) weren t taken till 7:42pm. Our food arrived at 8:25pm and not once did anyone come back to see if we needed anything. We both sat with empty glasses the whole time. Finally at 9 pm I asked for refills! This was the second time we ve been here. The first time was about 5 years ago and we had such a great experience that we chose to come here for our 10 year anniversary and we re so disappointed. Everything was so dirty. I even scrubbed down the highchair before the baby sat in cuz of how dirty it was. We even sat in the dark with no lights. For half n hr. A server eventually came by and asked if I was ok and I told him no and he took off the cheesecake, and drinks off our bill. He was very nice but over all we won t be coming back here again unfortunately.
The food was amazing and the service was so wonderful ... our team of servers knew exactly what and when we needed something. Awesome night, thank you for a perfect anniversary dinner.
We ate here a few days ago. The meal was excellent. My Lamb was cooked exactly as I asked and everthing tasted very good. Prices are commensurate with the quality and a good value. It was easy to have a conversation with our table which is a nice change from larger, louder, more open venues. We would v come again if we re in Surrey for dinner.
Me and my wife thought we would go there for a nice birthday dinner and I thought even if it was expensive and the portions small at least we would get a flavourful meal. The French onion soup tasted like water, the schnitzel was flavorless and the mushroom gravy that went on it was flavorless, the paella tasted like plain rice and the chocolate cake tasted chalky. All the other food was okay-ish. I would struggle to cook a meal with less flavour. I wouldnt recommend unless you like the flavour of water made manifest.
This is one of favourite restaurants and the best I have been to in Canada. Top quality with casual, efficient service. You owe it to yourself to visit this restaurant!
Dated restaurant with post Covid-19 prices. The restaurant itself looks pretty nice, looks like a converted house. Food was mediocre. Service was lousy.
Fantastic ambiance, excellent service, and probably one of the best steaks I have had in a long time. Highly recommended.
Love the food and service. Always a pleasure to eat here Food
First I will say the food was good, the meat was great , but the veggies were just a after thought , for the prices here you do expect a bit more in the flavor / creativity department. But I would eat it again. However ....the chairs . I havent been that uncomfortable in years , and it was quite warm. So I was uncomfortable and sweating , this took away so much enjoyment Im just not sure I could sit through another dinner there.
First time at this beautiful restaurant and definitely coming back! Outstanding service with amazing food. Beautiful vibes at this restaurant.
the place was...amazing....my bf took me here for my bday and....the food was amazing and very...very....good and the staff and atmosphere was awesome.i would so...recommend the Caesar salad, yes they are...a bit pricey but not as much as other places like u see downtown Vancouver.this place is worth it.if ur looking for a fancy night out for a birthday or anniversary or date night, nothing like downtown Vancouver.
Servers ignored us for about 10-15 mins after we were seated, no menus on the table, just drinks menus. Had to flag a server down to get some menus and to even just greet us. Food was mediocre at best, prices were way too expensive for the quality of food, I ve had better food at a pub for half the price. Ordered the old surrey burger, beef patty was over cooked and had little flavour and was accompanied by freezer fries. Not what I would expect for a $23 burger. We won t be back.
Theyre celebrating 50 years in business and now I know why theyve been around so long!! The menu is a great mix of seafood and meats, Ceasar Salad was perfection as were all our meals. The waiters were very knowledgeable about both the food and wine menu. Such a wonderful evening out, a special place to celebrate a special occasion or just to enjoy an excellent meal. Happy 50th Old Surrey Restaurant. Kim
The food and service was top notch
Extremely bland but overpriced food. Do yourselves a favour and go to the neighbouring McDonald s, better food and far better quality. The staff at this old dump also have the worst attitude and take their frustrations out on their customers. Won t be back and I ll warn others to avoid this place.
Came here for the first time and was totally impressed and flabbergasted with the ambiance , service and menu.Michael was an outstanding individual with a great demeanor providing us exceptional service! We ordered a great variety of dishes. Every thing was absolutely superb ! Outstanding was the lamb , duck and chateaubriand done at the table as was the anniversary dessert done at the table and flambéed with a professional flair ! I will certainly be back ! Mike thanks for your parents contact where Im planning to buy a whole lamb from ! Kudos to all the management and staff for top notch food and service !
We visited last night and were very disappointed in the food and the service. The only two things we enjoyed were the Valentino salad and the apple tart. The Paella was dry with scarcely any seafood, the pork schnitzel mediocre. (Theres a cafe in New West which serves better and at 1/2 the cost). The only time we saw the server was when plates were either being served or removed. We were never asked if we wanted anything else or how the experience was. When it came time to pay the bill we were asked how it had been and when I said it was not as good as the previous time we got a blank stare. Not keen about going back. This place is relying on its past reputation.
The latest 50th anniversary $50 special was beyond amazing!
I have been many times over many years to The Old Surrey. Although it isnt inexpensive it IS worth it. Best gourmet food and best service in Surrey. And so many options to choose from- love the variety. The only reason I didnt give it 5 stars is because there should be a less expensive wine by the bottle plus what restaurant doesnt offer 6 oz and 9 of wine?Theirs is 5 oz! Love the food and service. If they offer a lower price wine and change the size l will give it a 5 star. Will go back though. Parking: No problem getting a space- free parking.
Sadly, it took us 1.5 hours for entrees to be served. We sat down at 7p, ate some appies, then had our entree served well past 9pm. The beet salad and French onion soup were the best dishes we had.... the mussels were bland and had sand in them, the Butternut Squash ravioli was flat, and the seafood fettuccine was straight out bland (tasted like they just mixed pasta and heavy cream). The servers were great...very friendly and knowledgeable but the food service was incredibly slow. Most of our table had to cut their dinner short, with some that didnt bother to finish their plates because the food came out so late and so underwhelming. Very unfortunate as we had looked forward to this place for a while.
I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and service. Outstanding. The restaurant has been around 50 years and from what I witnessed, is still going strong!
We loved the restaurant so much that we booked another visit right away.
The experience here was really good. Food, atmosphere, and service were nice but serving was freaking slow. We had to wait for about 30mins to get a bill. Imagine how slow serving our food was.
Very nice restaurants for special occasions. For Appetizer, We got the pacific crab dip. It was one of the best appetizers we have eaten. For the main course, We got the 12 oz Boneless ribeye and Butternut squash ravioli. Both were delicious and perfectly prepared. The restaurant is on the expensive side but well worth the visit. 5 out of 5 stars
Bringing back OLD memories It has been awhile since last been here especially when I was mistaken that they closed down after the pandemic. Had a lot of fond memories at this place throughout the years. This place is located on 72nd Avenue by King George Hwy (close to the McDonald s). I would say if one is not specifically looking for this place, one will pass by it without knowing it s a restaurant. It s like a hidden gem but not really hidden yet it still camouflage itself into the surroundings. Both the inside and outside appear to be someone s house back in the 70s, except inside is laid out with dining tables in all the rooms. Here was the food I ordered this time around (set menu); 1. Pina colada & Caesar. Both drinks were nice and rich in taste. 2. Shrimp bisque. Pretty rich and tasty, right to the point. Glad it was served hot not lukewarm like many places. 3. Charcuterie platter (appetizer). It was okay, nothing compared to the normal size platter. 4. Jumbo prawns. Quite tasty but I personally think they are one size down to be called jumbo . 5. Filet mignon with lobster tail AAA tenderloin. The filet was nicely done medium rare and the lobster tail was tender. The sauce complimented the steak really well. 6. Strawberry cheesecake. Pretty generic 7. Crème bule. Nicely caramelized, good little sweet to finish the meal with. Overall, this is one of those places I just don t get bored of coming over the years. Personally I always enjoy the food and service here. The atmosphere here is suitable for all occasions. I highly recommend the tossed Caesar salad and Chateaubriand table side. Another visit added to memory lane, will be back again for OLD times shake
Cozy rooms, nice for special occasions. Only one vegetarian option, a pasta, that was good but disappointing for a French restaurant. My companions enjoyed their omnivore meals. Service was excellent. Vegetarian options: Only one vegetarian main
Great food and good service! Great date night classy restaurant.
While, the food wasn t necessarily my taste. The presentation, delivery and attentiveness of the staff was next level. I havent seen that level of care in a long time at a restaurant. Bravo. Again the food was not really to my personal taste however the quality of the food was great.
Amazing food, even better service! Cant wait to go back again! Highly recommended!!
Our Anniversary Place. Hidden gem in Surrey. Best food, best ambience and best service. Kid-friendliness: Fine Dining place. If kid is well behaved then you take kids.
Impeccable service as always. One of the rare places that still do table-side service for house made Caesar salad and some flambeed entrees and desserts. Food is top notch and its a great place to go for celebrations and candlelit dates! Wheelchair accessibility: A flight of steps (~10) required before getting to the front entrance
Great place!
My husband took me here for our 15-year wedding anniversary as a last minute thing when we finally had babysitting arranged. He found it online with good reviews, liked the menu, thought we d give it a try. Boy, it does not disappoint! The ambience is intimate and lovely. Every table has its own nook so you feel like you are in your own private space. The food is amazing. We went all out and had the seafood appetizer, Chateaubriand main, and Crepes for dessert. The main and dessert were prepared and flambéed table-side to perfection and tasted amazing. The service was impressive, attentive and personable. Clearly, these servers have been here for years and know how to keep conversations flowing and guests smiling. So impressed. Happy that we found this little gem. We will be back again and again. Thank you! (I wish I took photos, but given the occasion, only took the phone out when necessary)
We spent New Years Eve here and had the most amazing dinner. Beautiful restaurant, comfortable and cozy. Food was outstanding! I had the rack of lamb and it was cooked perfectly, my husband had the steak and lobster and he said it was the best hes had out at a restaurant. The price was very reasonable (in my opinion) for a 4 course new years dinner. Thanks for a memorable evening!
What a lovely experience we had at Old Surrey Restaurant. Best Cesar salad we have ever had! Nice quiet ambience and fabulous service thanks to Rob and Mike. The desert, made at our table was scrumptious and a perfect ending to a truly pleasant dinner.
Always wonderful meals there.
From the moment we walked in until we left, we were warmly treated to a fantastic meal and service - hats off to the menu.
Suggested to go here by a friend. Had no idea of what to expect. Was a beautiful place. Lovely staff who frequently made sure everything was to our satisfaction. And amazing food. So delicious. Wish we had room for dessert as the nitro ice creme looked pretty fascinating. We will be making this our date night restaurant.
Fantastic experience. Everything was top notch. Food was amazing and excellent setting and service.
This place was a regular stop for me when I lived in Surrey many many years ago. Met 3 friends there for dinner. Absolutely excellent. Lots of parking. Lots of dining space, well laid out. Best Caesar Salad! We all had the anniversary special, $80. Pretty good wine list, but could stand a few more upper end wines. Out of stock on amerone. Settled for napa. Friendly efficient attentive wait staff. Very good presentation. Will make the trek to surrey more often. EDIT- Dinner 6, attentive service. Parking: Lots of parking
Probably the best restaurant meal Ive ever had. Between my wife and I, we tried 8 different items from the four-course Valentines event. Each was superb!
Went to this restaurant last night for the first time. Found the ambience more of a European restaurant. No loud music. Able to talk to the person you brought with you up to the restaurant. Thought having two ask two or three times what they were saying. Food was excellent. I had the rack of lambs. My partner had steak au poive. Had the creme brulee for dessert along with a Irish coffee or as they call it the Old Surrey Restaurant Coffee. Prepared at your table over a gas stove. All the alcohol is heated up flambe. Overall a very pleasant experience. I would recommend this restaurant wholeheartedly. A bit pricey but then what restaurant isnt. If you have a special occasion in Surrey this is the restaurant you want to go to.
Came here for Valentines and to celebrate me making it halfway through my pregnancy this past Saturday and was blown away! We got the Anniversary Special and were in AWE at the presentation, portions, service and taste. Our entree was the steak and lobster tail and I wasnt expecting it to be a full portion of steak with a butterflied lobster tail, useually you get a smaller steak portion, but was happily surprised. All the food was cooked to perfection and tasted astounding! Props to our waiter who made cesar salad and ice cream tableside. He remembered I was pregnant and made sure to keep the cream alcohol, which is useually includes on the ice cream, off. I also want to shout out the lovely waitresses who served us promptly and warmly. Had some amazing conversations and overall fun times. Food was well worth the $100 price tag. The only thing I can gripe about is the parking. It is a witch riddle wrapped in a enigma. Stalls are not clearly marked and my boyfriend joked he was glad he could see the car from our table so he could keep an eye out for tow trucks! Luckily wherever you end up parking dosent seem to be a issue, didnt see a tow truck all evening and people really tried to park respectfully, but for an upscale restaurant id appreciate marked parking stalls. Overall The Old Surrey is officially our one and only fancy date night spot! The food was worth the price tag and the staff were attentive, kind, and humourous. We will be back in March for my BFs birthday and were already drooling! Parking: The only bad thing about this place. My mans and I joked we were glad we could see our car from our table to make sure we werent towed since parking was super unclear. However wherever you park dosent seem to be a issue but would still appreciate more clearly marked parking stalls.
I was here for a meeting with a small group. The staff is extremely accommodating and the food is great. This place has vintage vibes and great hospitality. Love it
I wish Id visited sooner! The food was delicious and elegantly plated. The staff were efficient, proficient and charming. 10 out of 10!
Do not enter this place if you have melanin. You will be ignored upon entry and dismissed for caucasians entering after you who get immediate service....not worth the embarrassment.
I was just coming to leave a shining review for my oustanding experience at the Old Surrey Restaurant the other evening, when I saw the review from Nun Ya. I was there at the same time that she was, and her claim of being mistreated is completely unfounded. Several people arrived within seconds of each other and the lovely young lady who sat us was simply taking people in order. I too have thought that I was first before and someone was served/seated/sat before me, and maybe I was and maybe I wasnt, but I realize that people are human and not everything is about me, and sometimes, we just need to wait our turn. Now on my review: food, 5 stars, service, 5 stars, the staff here is amazing and our meal was phenomenal. Well be back and if you havent visited before check it out!
boneless ribeye (49) / rack of lamb (42) / abbotsford duck breast (36) / chateaubriand bouquetiere (46)
Disgusting restaurant
The meal and service were outstanding. They made the Caesar salad, ice cream and special coffee at the table. You don t see that anymore. Totally recommend.
This was a delightful place to dine out for special occasion. Compliments to the chef for the delicious dinner. Friendly but professional staff too.
Get ready for a top-notch dining experience. I highly recommend getting the dinner specials. If you are celebrating something special this is the place. Though the cost is high, you will not be disappointed with the value of your meal. The food, presentation, and staff are what makes this place Highly recommended
Food was great! Service was wonderful. Will definitely go again.
Everything we ordered was delicious. The atmosphere was nice and the servers were all so polite. I definitely had a good experience.
Food always delicious on this Restaurant. People always nice. Food
Theres a reason this restaurant has been around for so long. The food and the service are both top knotch
Its definitely not a cheap place to go for dinner by no means but the food was all perfectly cook and it all tasted so good, I was very happy with the meal.
Fabulous
Old Surrey Restaurant is a house converted into a restaurant. This was our first time there and it was AMAZING. The ambience is beautiful. The menu is wonderful. Everything we ordered was presented so well, at the perfect temperature and the flavor and taste impeccable. Their table side Tiramisu and Irish Coffee was a total treat.Tai was amazing with his table side pizzaz. It was fine dining at such wonderful prices. We truly had the best evening and definitely will be back. Everything was on point. We just felt we had to wait for service quite a bit. We waited with empty plates for a while before we were cleared and offered the next course. Also we were asked if it was a special occasion while doing our online booking but no one addressed our special occasion while we were at the restaurant. That is the only feedback. Parking: Lots of parking spots
Not sure about the fish entree. Tiramisu, martini, and steak were very well presented.
Food is always great, we have been going there for over 25 years. Great table-side service on some meals. Ceasar Salad is the best fresh-made table-side for 2 or more. After dinner drinks are great tasting and a good show in preparing them. We have brought friends the last couple of times, and they love it as well. One thought Atlas was the best they have been to, but now they are hooked on the Old Surrey House. Parking: Friday nights are hard to find parking but there is room as long as people park correctly as there are no lined spots.
We came out to Old Surrey for our marriage blessing dinner a while ago. The service was amazing and we were treated to a number of complementary items from the chef including some bubbly. A timeless and classy experience. Wed love to swing back in for an anniversary date. Salute to the chef and the amazing staff
My favorite restaurant ever! Great ambiance, great service! Best food A++++++++
Went there for the first time with my son, daughter in law and step grand son. Really enjoyed everything about it. I would recommend definitely
Absolutely delicious food! Fantastic service !!! The only thing I would change was the uncomfortable chairs.. 9.5/10 Thanks for great food !!
Great food
Surprisely good classic restaurant. Highlight of the night was the table size sabayon, a must try dessert
Place is great place to take someone out. 4 course meal with a few selections. Id recommend it
An exquisite taste of fine dining....a wonderful intimate private dining room.... truly exceptional service from warm inviting staff....the food was so fresh, flavourful and prepared with such pride and and skill I felt like a privileged guest in the chefs home.. Very well done staff and owners...I thank you for the experience
Good food, good service and a lovely atmosphere.
As a restaurant, I truly enjoy the dining experience and cant recall anything negative. I have been there multiple times to dine with that someone special or with a group of friends, and I think its the proverbial hidden secret. edit to add: And the food has been absolutely spot on - what youd expect of a high end, quality restaurant. (end edit) HOWEVER, where this establishment loses some big marks is in its very recent ABUSE of the restaurant mailing list when its owner (Philip A.) ran for local political office. It appears that anyone who had consented to be added to the restaurant mailing list for restaurant specials, etc; was deemed by Philip to have consented to receive his political campaign messages...and even after the campaign was over, those messages kept coming. I personally (and politely) replied to these Emails asking to be removed from the list, and expressed my concerns about how I thought it inappropriate to take customer consent for restaurant communications and use that information for political reasons. Unfortunately, despite several Emails, I received absolutely no reply. But I did keep getting those political campaign Emails. Its a shame the owner of this establishment isnt able to draw a line between the restaurant business and their personal political aspirations and affiliations. edit to add: And for the record, I know there are exemptions to the laws about unsolicited communications for political purposes. While I dont necessarily agree with self-serving politicians making laws to exclude themselves from the law, thats not my concern here. My concern is that this restaurant owner converted the information I had provided for one specific purpose, and used it for another.
Excellent food and customer service. Loved every moment of it . We ordered August special. Loved the tableside service and the way it was presented. The staff was very pleasant and approachable. The food came out very quickly after each course. Would definitely recommend old surrey restaurant to others for a date night or celebration.
This place is truly a gem in Surrey. It feels like were entering someones home when going inside the restaurant. The food was delicious and unlike other upscale restaurants it was actually filling. The service was great, very good at working with adjustments and were pretty charismatic. I will definitely come here again to see how theyll change !
What can you add about a reliably excellent institution? If you havent tried this place yet, youre missing out. Must have the traditionally served Caesar salad. Seriously.
Overall it was a good experience as the service was very good. This is a quaint little restaurant with a fine dining atmosphere and a highly attentive service staff. The food has great presentation, but the flavour was a little on the bland side, but still very edible. We had the following: - Jumbo prawns which weren t so jumbo, pretty much the frozen prawns you find at Costco with a bit of seasoning sautéed. They give you about 5 or 6, which is like $21. 5/10 - clam chowder was very tasty 8/10 - Rib eye is 12 oz and was tasty, but not the tenderest for $50. 6/10 - Rack of Lamb was seasoned well, but could use a bit more salt. Expect about 6 racks, but on the small side. Like 75% of the size you would get at Costco. 7/10
Wonderful, fabulous, fantastic! Food, service, everything! Cannot wait to go back, at Christmas. Already made reservations. Thank you so much, to all the wonderful staff who took great care of our 6 person party, which was a 40 year wedding anniversary celebration.
Good
Delicious food with good service. Great place for a date!
Absolutely loved this place. The food was amazing French cuisine. Highly recommend it for special occasions. You need to reserve however. Parking: Spots around the building on 3 sides.
The food was amazing, the ambience was perfect and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and came around just the right amount. Zero notes, just satisfaction.
I came here when I was 15 and had to wait 30 years to come again. Long overdue to visit, the food did not disappoint when we finally did Bread - warm and the butter was the best butter I have had served with bread Ceasar Salad - I would never get this salad normally. However, I noticed it was made table side so I ordered it. The Caesar dressing was made from scratch in front of me with the raw egg. The salad was superb and the only negative is I can not have a Caesar salad again somewhere else after eating this today Diablo Prawns - flavorful, spicy, balanced. Not jumbo though. Should change name. Beef Medallions- very good. Sides were excellent - wife had this meal so cant say much more Ravioli- I couldnt decide between the Ravioli and Lamb as I love bough. Chose the Ravioli - its good but not at the level of the other foods. Will get the lamb next time Creme Brule - the best custard I have tasted in a CB dessert in recent memory. Outstanding. Great job! Service - all in all what you would expect from a finer dining place. I would like the servers to consider saying thank you for coming, how was your experience, thank you after receiving the tip etc. I am not sure what happened there. Maybe it was a busy night. Easily a 5/5 in terms of food We will come again soon!
Amazing food and great service! Loved the atmosphere. Would definitely recommend for anyone wanting a romantic dinner!
Amazing food , excellent staff , service is always 5 star! Our waiter Ty took care of us like he knew us , made an excellent experience that much better. Respect. Parking: Great
Brought the wife here for a date, first time visiting, we tried the Mother s Day multi-course special. Did not get a chance to review Taste 0.5/1* Had high hopes, maybe because of that, we both felt it was a big let down; food weren t bad tasting, but was also nothing special. Croissant was pretty good, little too buttery for the wife s taste, but ultimate we didn t come here for the bakery. Value 0/1* Lots of other choices that outshine in quality and taste at this price range Service 0.5/1* We sat in the corner room with 2 other tables, everyone had the same special in that room. Other 2 tables got both croissants and muffins, we only receive croissants, and when asked, server said they don t have enough. They brought some to us in the end, but ultimately was a bit late as it s already left a distasteful feeling. Cleanliness 0.5/1* As it s not newly Reno d, it s not spotless, though not particularly dirty, gives the just enough kind of feel Overall/Revisit 0/1* Paying for ambience? YES, not so much the ambience as opposed to the rep maybe Above and beyond? 0/+1* NO One would think to ask a young couple what the occasion is for going out for fine dinner on a Mother s Day, but nope, they did not even ask what the occasion was
This was our first time dining here. It was great! Picked this restaurant to celebrate our anniversary and so glad we did. Great food, excellent service and the atmosphere was so charming. You could actually hear each other talk (some other restaurants are so loud!).
Very nice atmosphere, tableside service. The Chateaubriand is my favorite! One of my favorite places to dine.
I absolutely loved it The food was great and everyone was very friendly Food
Great place, recommend
It appears that the experience with so-called French cuisine was quite confusing and disappointing. The charcuterie platter was particularly disappointing as the amount of cheese and sausages provided was shockingly small. The slices of cheese were so thin that you could see through them. Although the main dish meat was good, the vegetables that came with it were raw and tasteless. The French onion soup also tasted like gravy. Was it an unlucky day for us at this place? Perhaps.
Amazingly cute, awesome service, delicious food.
We had our company Christmas here, with a total of thirty people. The servers were absolutely amazing, with everyone getting their meals at the same time. The atmosphere is great and would highly recommend to anyone whether a large party or dinner for two. Parking: Can be a little tight for parking
This restaurant is absolutely phenomenal! Reservations are definitely needed here, it is a very busy and popular restaurant. Every dish I had hit the mark, and I dont have any complaints about anything. I highly recommend the Vancouver Island Qualicum Bay scallops, everything about the dish is absolutely heavenly. The waiters were very friendly with very attentive service. I will definitely be back!
Went in tonight for my husbands birthday. Was a bit nervous going out during covid but we ended up being the only table for most of our meal. The food was amazing, wellington was better than the steakhouses Ive had it at. Had the fall special; scallops, Caesar salad, wellington, affogato and topped it off with a Caesar. All fantastic. Wish I caught our servers name, he was wonderful. Polite and definitely a people person. In again for the Valentines day menu. So amazing! Still great servers.
First class dining experience through and through
Update: visited again last night. Still the best in this side of Fraser River. Table side made caesar salad was still amazing. The current $80 anniversary set was great. The services was wonderful. They always kept our ice water glasses filled and checked with us often. A rare fine dining restaurant outside City of Vancouver. Love it! ------------------ Never been disappointed. I only have a handful of fine dinning restaurant s that I would repeatedly come back. This is one of those. There are reasons this restaurant is celebrating its 45th anniversary. I good combination of service, food quality and reasonable price. And its in Surrey, not Vancouver downtown. The table side handcrafted Caesar salad is a must try. So as the tranditional tiramisu. Also the Cherry Jubilee that you hardly able to find anyway nowadays. Their tasting menu changing every season with seasonal ingredients from local farms partner. Once I had the lamb rack from local farms which was one of the best I ever tried. If you tired going for fine dining in downtown and would like to find something different, this is the one you want to try next and you wont be regret.
I was varey please with the service and the food was fantastic.
Our family had a terrible experience at Old Surrey Restaurant. Let me be specific: (1) we waited over two hours to be served our appetizers and entrees, (2) the lead (?) waiter (older, dark hair) insulted us for daring to suggest an hour wait between courses was too much, (3) never once were our water glasses refilled unless we asked (which we did 3 times), (4) the quality check on the food (is everything OK?) was not done until after we finished eating (anyone that works in a rest. knows this should be done within 2 minutes of serving the entree), (5) the wine glasses were not refilled when empty (small point but part of the larger pattern of poor service), (6) no one came out to tell us there would be a great delay between courses (the issue could have been easily avoided with basic service, e.g.. just to let you know that we are very busy tonight and the next course will be about 30 minutes...), and I could go on but you get the point. I was actually embarrassed to have been responsible for choosing the Old Surrey Restaurant as our destination. I do give credit to the kitchen, which produced food that was well prepared and tasty. They were clearly overworked. And the other staff were generally competent. Never again.
Delicious food, excellent service, and classy (yet relaxing) ambiance. This is a great place for celebrating special occasions.
Service was good and are quite attentive. We ordered escargot, Caesar salad, seafood platter, lamb, and crepe suzzette. Food are delicious, but I do find the crepe slight too sweet for my taste bud. Overall, I had a great night out and a delicious meal on our anniversary.
Loved! Thank you for the service!
Lovely place and kind staff! Food was delicious. Would definitely recommend to come here if youre lookin for a special night out.
Great service and great food.
Classic! Love this restaurant! You get served very well! Cedar salad is awesome! Steak with crab bring a very good combination! Pear desert is unbelievable! All foods are fresh and high end! Will visit again! Great for anniversary dinner!
Absolutely Amazing
The dining experience is intimate and make you feel like you traveled back in time. Customer service its always amazing and the food is incredible this place is such a hidden Gem in Surrey
Great food and service
Our favorite place for special occations!
Impeccable service, fine dining and fabulous food. We started with scallops on puff pasty with a tarragon cream sauce. We both had the feature which was pistachio crusted halibut, sublime! For dessert I had crème brûlée and my hubby ordered a chocolate pate dessert. Everything was top notch and we will definitely be back.
Was brought here on a date for my birthday and we had a great time. The service was fantastic! And the restaurant has a really nice vibe inside, it s cozy and intimate. We were having such a great time that we accidentally stayed an hour past closing time(shoutout to the staff for being so sweet about it!). The food here is great. We started off with Caesar Salad, and Chicken for our main course. For desserts we go got both Tiramisu and Pear Galette. We didn t get to enjoy the desserts since we were so full. Definitely recommend coming here!
The ceaser salad wasnt fresh. I would have actually have sent it back if it were mine. The ends were brown. Unacceptable for a place that chases you down if the tip isnt good enough(we tipped 15%). Besides that, food was decent but wont be back.
Great gem in Surrey. Love coming here now and again for a great treat.
Great food, service and love they still do table side service so it becomes meal and entertainment.
Delicious. Meals cooked perfectly. We had the lamb and steak.
Visited here this month for our anniversary. Had a great experience. Very friendly staff and we got to sit in the library which was cool. Heard them give a free dessert for the table next to uss anniversary. He proudly annouced we do this for peoples anniversarys! When our bill came the servers said oh I forgot to add your coffees to the bill. So then he reprinted it. No complimentary desserts or anything for us. In my opinion he could have left the coffees off as they were even cheaper than a dessert would have cost. Kind of left me with a sour note.
Driven past this place for a decade or more and always wondered about it. Finally figured wed give it a try. Very nice atmosphere, quiet and friendly. Food was good and martinis were great! Glad we took the chance, and will definitely be back
Best Caesar Salad I have ever tasted hands down! I love that they make certain of their dishes table side. Spiro outdid himself every time for us, as do all the friendly staff we have dined with since he retired! Our family have been long time patrons for many many years and know when we come in that every bite will be delicious. Looking forward to going back for Chateaubriand season again this year :)
There is a cozy place with good menu and they serve the food that you choose in front of your table. It means they mix the ingredient that was prepred before together in front of you . You can find polite and handsome server. In addition, you can find fresh steak. I ordered set menu as wll as I loved that and recommend. One of the big mistake is the restaurant doesnt pay attention to the time of serving food for the staff and the staff served meal with hungry.
Such a lovely and cozy place to have a nice meal. Their food is impeccable and service is immaculate. Definitely enjoyed our time there and spent most of the evening laughing and enjoying.
Food and services are excellent.
We celebrated our anniversary here with a romantic dinner and really appreciated the ambiance and overall experience, as well as the food! Make sure you order the Caesar salad, the Chateaubriand, or the Cherries Jubilee dessert in order to get the full table-side experience. Our dessert was served table-side by the owner and I really appreciated the extra time he took to tell us about his familys farm where much of the restaurants food comes from. The area wasnt what we expected, but the farm house itself is beautiful and there was enough parking for a full restaurant.
Nice gem. Old house with Nice decor and cozy. Nice presentation and service. Food is fresh from farm. Dishes themselves were ok. Steak au poivre did not have any peppercorns and was overcooked.
Very very good, service and menu.
Always good food and service hence not cheap but worth it if you like good food and service. Have been eating there for 27 years.
Very tasty food . Good atmosphere
Just had dinner tonight The service was excellent (clean and friendly very nice people) The food was delicious the best I have had in a long time Not that expensive for the quality of the service and food
great food and excellent staff. we all enjoyed our dishes. will be back some other time
The Old Surrey Restaurant, founded in 1975 by Spain native Valentine Aguirre, serves up fresh, inspired dishes with local ingredients including lamb and veal from the familys Chilliwack farm
The chateaubriand was excellent, cooked to perfection as well. The presentation left a little to be desired -far too big a portion of vegetables, more resembling a working mans dinner than fine French cuisine. The appetizers - I had oysters, my wife had scallops - were very good as well. The wine list was pretty bleak.
Such decadence, great ambience, excellent food and service. Loved having caesar salad prepped at table. Its expensive but worth it. Nice that restaurant is an old house with separate rooms, so much quieter than large restaurant. I recommend.
Love this restaurant. Ceaser salad is delicious and love the table side cooking. Can t wait to come back.
My family and I had a great experience dining in this restaurant. The staff are welcoming and attentive. The food are great and delicious. Would definitely eat here again.
We recently visited the Old Surrey Restaurant for our anniversary and were able to enjoy the Chateaubriand special. Great food and great experience. Look forward to going again in the future. Not your average restaurant with more of a fine dining experience with a bit of theatre too.
Great food and fantastic service. The Caesar salad is the best I ve ever had.
lovely atmosphere. the waiters were very charming and personable. we ordered our meal in their pre determined course, and the food was cooked beautifully with the right amount of portions and timed perfectly as well. would recommend not only as a restaurant but as an experience.
Very nice quiet atmosphere. Food and wine was great. Waiters were hilarious and professional.
Kid-friendliness: They brought a high chair and coloring options for the two kids. Very polite and read their needs well Food
This is a bit of a non-review because, although Im sure the food and dining experience here is terrific based on the reviews, we unfortunately were denied the opportunity as the restaurant decided to close on the evening we had reservations for and we were not informed of this closure. To provide context, every year on Remembrance Day our family chooses a unique finer dining experience to recognize and celebrate our childrens grandfather that passed away on Nov 11. Because it is a holiday, we always call ahead and confirm with a restaurant to ensure they open that night. This year we selected the Old Surrey Restaurant (based on the reviews) and made a reservation back on Sept 22. I spoke over the phone with the property and they indicated they would be open. Our reservations were confirmed in a text message. Fast forward to the evening of Nov 11 and we make the 1 hour drive from Vancouver out to the address only to find that they are closed. In our car we have our two children, grandma, my wife, and myself. Its also a Friday night and a holiday. Out in the middle of Surrey we had to scramble and were fortunate enough to find another restaurant out in Cloverdale that could accommodate us at the last minute that fit the bill of being a more unique dining experience (they were awesome). My intention is not to disparage the Old Surrey Restaurant (therefore leaving a neutral 2.5 stars rounded up to 3) as I can imagine how tough it is to operate a restaurant during these times. However when I first reached out to them through their website for an explanation the following day, I did not receive a response. Later in the week I decided to call them and the fellow I spoke with was aware of the situation and tells me that he (or someone from the restaurant) had tried to call us (they had both my wifes and my mobile numbers) and left a voice mail. Neither of us have a record of any messages in our mailboxes. I wonder why they didnt simply text us the closure notification as that wouldve provided a more assured way of letting us know. The gentleman then mentioned that the owner would be reaching out to me but I have yet to hear anything. I understand this was a miscommunication on their part and they have the right to close their business if it seemed that there wouldnt be enough business on that night but the effort to contact us could have been much better and should have been a priority. Is this not the same as if a large group booked their entire restaurant on a busy evening and then decided to simply not show up? I hope moving forward this restaurant is more accountable and thoughtful in how they treat and communicate with their customers.
Everything very positive. Great place for meat lovers. Awesome in every way.
Classic fine dining in the middle of Newton! My husband and I have been coming here for 4 years now and just love it. The staff are simply amazing at their jobs and very personable. The ambiance is perfect for special occasions, romantic dates or just a nice evening out. Its very inviting and relaxed while being high end white tablecloth dining. We have never had a bad meal. We always opt for their specials which is such a deal. Start your meal with warm bread and butter and an amuse bouche from the chef which is always soooo good. This is followed by an incredible appetizer, Ceasar salad (made in the traditional way at your table and can be customized to your taste) then your main course followed by decadent desserts. (LOVE the Bananas Foster!) All for $80 per person. You simply cant go wrong. I highly recommend the Chateaubriand which is done at your table for 2. I cant say enough good things about this restaurant. The only teeny downside for me personally is that I wish they had more by the glass types of wines but they do have quite selection of alcohol options for everyone. Looking forward to their winter menu starting in December! (I was able to get a sneak peak at the upcoming menu and it is DECADENT!) I told my husband we will need 3 visits to get through the choices I want!
Highly recommend! It is a true dining experience with a great ambience, table side service and spectacular service. This is going to be my new place to suggest for special occasions.
Always a great experience. The food is awesome, and the service is just right. Cheers
Slow service.. appreciated the complimentary Tableside performance always entertaining opt for Fall dinner course - The appies were great. Altho i wanted the prawns served with my steak. Prawns were bland, THE BEST SCALLOPS Highly recommend that one, beef was good as well. 2nd course: Caesar salad , would be nicer if the romane were cut smaller 3rd course: we both had the filet steak. I wish they had other side options.. like mashed potato Dessert: it came with rum.. like hella strong flavor of rum liqour my friend and i just laughed it off but it was really difficult to eat. - First time dining here was before covid. I had such a great time and our server was the best which why i refer this place. Young fella i think named was Nick but apparently he is not working there anymore. -
Very good food and great service. Parking: Lots of parking! Kid-friendliness: Kids menu is offered!
It doest get anybetter
