Umami Ramen + Grill in Surrey

I ve been to Umami Sushi countless times, and every visit has been an absolute delight. My personal favorites are the Black Truffle Set (Set No. 1) and the Tornado Potato Chip both are incredibly flavorful and showcase the chefs creativity and skill. The quality of the food here is consistently outstanding, and it s clear that the team takes great pride in their work. What makes Umami even more special is its diverse menu. While it excels at Japanese cuisine, it also offers a variety of other dishes, such as Chinese-style meals and seafood soups, making it a fantastic choice for anyone looking to try something new. The versatility of their menu ensures there s something for everyone, and every dish is prepared with the same level of care and attention to detail. I also want to give a special shoutout to one of the young male staff members. He s exceptionally friendly and polite, always making the dining experience even more enjoyable. His attentive service really stands out and adds a warm touch to the meal. Another great perk is its convenient location just outside Surrey Central Station, making it super easy to get to. On top of that, I received a loyalty card during one of my visits, and I m certain I ll be back many more times to enjoy everything Umami Sushi has to offer. This place has definitely become one of my top favorites, and I can t recommend it enough to anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience!

Used to be my go to spot but not anymore, at least during busy time. Invited friends for dinner here, ordered some food to our table but they only brought out one main and 3 sides. We had to wait 30 mins before realizing they messed up our order. Given the restaurant was busy, none of the server bothered to check our orders? Plus, no apology was given. What a waste of time.

The most delicious ramen I have ever tasted, it is simply amazing! There is definitely nothing more delicious in surrey The attention is incredible, they are very friendly.

My partner and I shared spicy tonkotsu ramen, pork fried rice, and thai basil chicken wings The tonkotsu spicy ramen was alright. The noodles werent bad but didnt stand out. It had flavour, but it tasted more like mushroom than pork. Not a mushroom I like either. Tasted like shimeji. It was the thinnest tonkotsu broth Ive had aside from the instant I make at home, I prefer much creamier.. The egg was hard boiled, which I prefer for laksa but not for ramen. But the bean sprouts were fresh, the chashu melted in my mouth, the nori was outstandingly flavourful, and it had a good amount of scallions. The fried rice was simple but excellent. Perfectly cooked, aromatic oil, just enough pork for interest, big portion, comforting. Would make a great side dish for a feast. And the thai basil chicken wings? Really needed to be eaten with rice or something. Ive never had saucier wings in my life. It was breaded and deep fried, not the kind I prefer, but it did manage to be crispy and perfectly cooked beneath the sauce. The thai basil is very noticeable, and the rest of the sauce reminds me of sweet chili (the kind you get with complimentary spring rolls) except deeper, darker, more complex. The whole meal was about $55, including the 18% tip. Not a bad deal these days. The menu is suspiciously big, so I wouldnt be surprised if another main dish is more to my liking. One would be cautious of the area for good reason, but its still worth checking out if youre hungry in the area!

Amazing, very tasty food! Staff was super friendly and catering. Food was so delicious. I was expecting a japanese restaurant but it is an all rounded asian fusion restaurant. They have a huge variety menu but everything we ordered was soo good! I specifically recommend the house special chow mein and salt & pepper fish. Their avocado slush drink was so fresh and perfectly done right. Im glad i found out about this restaurant. This is my go to asian food now!

Havent been in person, just for delivery. Its the go to for my wife and I for ramen, laksa and fried noodles. Love the chinese/thai/malay/singaporean options!

My wife is in hospital and she is feeling much better, I asked her if a hospital date night was OK, she consented immediately and joyously. We ordered wor won ton, chicken karrage, and roti canai. We also had two amazing black iced teas perfectly sweetened and creamed without asking i may add. The chicken was ever so crunchy yet juicy and the dip was to live for. The roti canal as always crispy and doughy and the dip a adventure into east Asian flavor! The wonton was at war with my soul, and won The engagement before it even started. The sung tsu art of war could take notes on the ability for this soup to control the battlefield. We had an outdoor area at Royal Columbian hospital to enjoy a much needed respite from The hum drum existence of hospital life. Where to start, ive been going here with my wife since the beginning. This newly opened gem, soft opened with ramen only. and quickly, but not to quickly added the fusion to their name. Since then my family hasnt been able to get enough of this gem, in the rough of surrey, nay most of British Columbia. Starting the menu on skip the dishes is the salt and pepper squid they know the secret of getting deep fried food fresh and crispy to the door. Not to mention whats not in the name, which is key to its perfection - is the asian medley of, onions, garlic, green onion and green bell pepper, diced and caramelized to angelic value. It says the roti canai is a must have, I beg to differ. This creative carbohydrate dream is equal to slipping closed eyes into a south asian influenced hot spring in the middle of winter buck naked. Next is the wonton soup a slow creeping magician explosion of flavor, starting with the perfectly seasoned creamy broth and skillfulled wrapped pork morsels, still springy from the magical moment of conseption, I would strongly agree you add bamboo shoots and broccoli to this dish. Finally the seafood tumyum ramen finisher smashes you way past the finish line with perfectly executed basa white fish, prawn and mussels. If needing more direction on this choice, I strongly agree to add a seasoned and soft boiled egg that will not disappoint paired with the vermicelli noodles which is the fifth option of noodle. Both flour and gluten free rice noodles options available. This entire meal feed us to almost happiness incarnation with a meager pricetag.

Walked in here after a travel day. Truly the best chicken satay and spicy ramen I ve had in North America. The broth was so complex and delicious, I m still fantasizing about how learn to make their satay . Came back the next day bc it was so good. Don t miss this place!!

I had my suspicions due to where the place was located but after eating the food, it was a gem. The family that runs the restaurant are very nice.

Ubered the food. Ramen was flavoural and chicken karage was well cooked and spicy. This is becoming my go to takeout location!

Good Food, Great Value! Love their Hainanese Chicken, Minced Pork with Eggplant, Seafood in Cream Sauce, Salty Fish Fried Rice, etc. Place can be packed and busy at times but the owner makes our every visit a great experience.

Order out from here a lot and have never once been disappointed. Cannot speak to the dine in experience, but the food from here is always incredible. Amazing portions, well spiced. My absolute go to now especially for Pad Thai and their spicy beef.

Big portions of quality food at a great price, miso tonkatsu ramed is my recommended dish~ and the milk teas are great!

The menu was extensive. We ordered chicken wings, tempura, hainanese chicken and sake. Everything came out fresh, hot and delicious. Service was also efficient and friendly.

The food was good; the flavour, portion size, and value were all good. But the service was slow. Not all dishes came, we eventually took the last one to go. On my third time here, The salt and pepper squid is really garlic and onion squid. The service didnt care. This is my last time coming here

Staple in my ramen. Not much else to say tbh as Ive never seen a screw up as bad as a metal object in my food. Not the waitors fault but I expected something from a manager or something after that experience. It was in my mouth and I almost swallowed it and I ate most of the ramen already . A replacement ramen doesnt make up since I was already almost done and disappointed that I was charged full for contaminated ramen. Pretty gross and bad experience

My son loves Ramen so we were really excited to check out a local ramen shop. The menu looked great and the atmosphere was great. Unfortunately, we waited maybe 15 minutes before anyone came to take our order. When our food started to come out, it came out piece by piece instead of all together. The wait between dishes was ridiculous. My daughter didn t get her food until 30 minutes after my husband got his food. No one came to ask how our food was, what we were missing or if we wanted another drink. Finally, with a table full of dirty dishes and empty glasses, we had to find someone to get our bill so we could pay. The food was good, but the really bad service was too much. We wouldn t go back.

Not typical Japanese style ramen but Chinese style, but taste good!

Been a decent amount of times, both dine in and take out. Sometimes don t take special orders seriously. For my ramen orders I always ask for remove onion/garlic but 3/5 times would still have onion/garlic in the food. Once i asked to check and they didnt removed them, i asked again for it to be removed and it was obviously picked out on the surface level, so there as bits and pieces hidden in the noodles.

I had the chicken katsu dish and it was alright. Didnt like how there were so much batter and fat with minimal meat. The one thing I didnt like was the pork katsu dish. Very dry and the pork katsu had a bad after taste of those very poor quality pork. Never had that after taste before but the pork katsu dish had it.

I thought it was just a ramen shop, but it turned out that the friendly manager in the store introduced that the owner is a Singaporean chef who learned from Japanese ramen chefs, so he is also good at cooking Nanyang-style food. The portions of each meal are large and the taste is of a high standard. If you are nearby, you might as well try it out ~ Highly recommended

This evening, en route home from shopping, I decided to dine at Umami Ramen + Grill and was pleasantly surprised. The establishment boasts a spacious and cozy seating environment. The menu is extensive, offering a diverse range of dishes from ramen and grilled items to fried rice and Asian-inspired BBQ, all reasonably priced. The variety extends to their drink menu as well. Both the portion sizes and the quality of the food were exceptional. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and attentive. I will definitely return and highly recommend Umami Ramen + Grill to anyone fond of Asian cuisine.

Great place to eat

I do love this place but dont like that last time I went and ordered my favorite dish they had changed it. It tasted nothing like it had the dozen or so times Id had it. If they keep changing wonderful dishes to mediocre ones I will stop going

Are you looking for good Vegan/Vegetarian Ramen? If so, this is place for you! Loved their spicy veg miso Ramen. Few times I find the broth very salty so you can request them in advance to make it less salty. But most of the time it s good!

The place is always clean and friendly I love coming here for the variety of dishes. All of them feel so authentic and full of flavour. One of my favorite places to eat. Dietary restrictions: I loved how the staff looked into if my dish has anything I could not touch before ordering. Very kind and friendly people work here.

Decent vegetarian ramen, not my favourite but not bad, and great spring rolls. Attentive serving staff. The eclectic menu looked great though we only tried the ramen. Vegetarian options: Has one vegetarian ramen on offer, it was good but not great and I wish there were more options.

All this food in the picture was what we had not eaten! Ramen had almost no flavour, bubble tea also had very little flavour and pearls were not chewy at all and very soggy. The chicken katsu does not use Japanese curry just warning everyone. 3/5 people had stomach issues after eating here. They also brought all our meals one at a time so some people were done before other people even got their orders.

Hands down the worst food I ve had in awhile. Chicken Katsu was greasy and slimy, and the curry sauce that came with it was anything but Japanese. Chashu bowl was super sweet and way too much was done with it. Keeping it simple would have made it way better. The photo is of all the food that WAS NOT FINISHED. Needless to say, it s the next day and my stomach is still fairly upset after this meal. Would not recommend.

I ordered kung poi chicken. It was far from being like i know this dish is made. Overload in baby corn, it doesnt even belong in this dish. I was so greatly disappointed. I dont know what it was. But if it was chicken oh my...everything else was okay,

Oh my god, there was so much food on my plate that i had to go home, put on my joggers, and dive in for a second round. The chicken was so good. Waitress was really good, always bringing us water and refills. Its worth going back to multiple times.

I ve ordered from here many times, but tonight something was off. I ordered the grilled squid and the laksa ramen. when I opened the squid there was about 5 pieces and just thrown into the container, the laska ramen was horrible it was very bland, the noodles, chicken and shrimp was very slimy, after a few bites I couldn t eat anymore. Later on I felt sick. very disappointed.

Their prices have been the same despite all other restaurants raising their prices during this time. _________________________________________ Place is not too bad to get your ramen fix. Not really a lot of places to choose from in Surrey but, Umami probably has one of the better bowls. Their pricing us also fairly reasonable. I had the shio tonkatsu black garlic ramen. I was expecting a richer broth but, it was still pretty good and the springy nicely cooked noodles helps. The egg could have been more runny but, not a deal breaker. Thus bowl is pretty good. Also had the bbq skewers, bbq pork bao bun and thai spring rolls. The skewers were tender and wasnt overcooked. I dont remember these coming with a dipping sauce but, they definitely should. Bbq pork bao buns were by far the best of the appetizers. Real soft buns and nice chunks of bbq pork. Highly recommend. Thai spring rolls were a little too greasy. I realize these are deep fried but, just seemed a too heavy. Not sure how other restaurants do it to make things like these spring rolls feel lighter. The service I think was slightly slow but again, not a deal breaker. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Would still like to try their other dishes in the future.

Poor quality

Located right outside of surrey central station. Location is pretty sketchy outside because its inner city surrey, but if you can get over that - this place is legit! Very nice when youre inside. Our server was very kind. So much food variety, not just ramen. Really good portions & price - tasted great too. Chinese calamari is also my go to side dish. Has heat to it! I ordered a Thai milk tea with pearls. Pearls were pretty bad and chewy. Not the kind of pearls youd get from chatime or coco. But absolutely would recommend this ramen joint!

Terrible experience. We ordered two pork belly skewers and two ramen bowls. The smell of pork was still significant if you guys know what I m talking about. Usually you need to marinate pork to get rid of that smell. But we can clearly tell the pork belly skewers still have that smell of pork. And the waitress didn t bring any bowl or plate for us. They just put the dish in front of you and then nothing else. In addition, we finished all our dishes and ramen and just sitting there waiting for the second bowl of ramen to come for 20 mins. We thought the staff just forgot it so we reminded them and then our ramen came. You can literally tell from picture. We finished our food and just were sitting and waiting for our second bowl to come.

Maybe some things are good here, the red curry was not. Ordered extra spicy, and it was just soupy and bland. Another restaurant trying to be too many things, but not actually good at any of them. Anyone giving a good review about this curry hasnt touched grass very often.

Reasonable price for good portions, unfortunately this is not a ramen or a grill restaurant. This is some sort of Chinese take out place trying to dabble in other Asian foods, and is not working, I m not sure the cooks are up to it.

Lots of menu options and portion sizes were big! Service was prompt and food came out quickly even for a large group of 14. We especially liked the pad thai and red curry.

Went here with my friend one time and convinced my husband that we dine today here and I regret it forever! They got our order wrong the entire time. Ramen doesnt taste good, couldnt finish it. The pearls in their slush freezes that it tastes raw, my 6 year old who loves pearl just refused to drink it. Slush was just flavouring and ice. They had to deliver the food one at a time which we almost finished our food but delivered our rice last and we had to ask for the rice more than 5 times from different server because they could just not serve the 1 single served steamed rice right away. Oh, also overcharged us. Why did I even tip a bit for it? Whatever! Never coming back.

We ordered catering from Umami Ramen and were so happy with the food. We come to the restaurants for lunch regularly so we decided to try their catering for our office meeting. They did not disappoint. The portions were huge and the quality was amazing. We love the service. Overall, I cant recommend this restaurant enough!

Yikes .. the tonkotsu ramen tasted like bland dishwater, the basil chicken karaage barely had any meat and was just 90% batter. The thai iced tea tasted like smokey plastic. To top it off, very rude service. The server clicked her tongue at my friend and, I and said you didn t finish your food .

Its very unpalatable. Its the worst meal Ive had in the 4 years Ive been in Vancouver. The ramen is very average, the Hainanese chicken has a fishy smell, and the fish-flavored eggplant pot is full of oil and tasteless. I dont recommend it at all. Run away.

I came here for some Ramen. I ordered the Chicken Katchu Ramen. Wow this was so tasty and the broth was the best I ve had in a long time. My friend also had the Laska ramen ant that was awesome too. I definitely recommend you try this place out. You won t be disappointed. Cheers

I was sceptical about this restaurant when I first heard of it- only due to the fact that it s right in the middle of Surrey Central. And I m sure if you re reading this review that s what you re unsure of too! But once you step inside, you almost forget where you are. The interior is beautifully decorated and the ambient lighting is very comforting. They play popular music and the staff were all very quick and super friendly! I ordered the Miso Tonkotsu Ramen and it arrived in under 5 minutes! The noodles were perfectly cooked, the vegetables were fresh and yummy, the pork was so tender it was falling apart, and the seasoned boiled egg was perfect. And not a bad price either! My only critique (and this may be due to my own lack of cultural experience)- the broth was a little bit too salty (especially when i ran out of noodles) I still finished all of it. Very nice little restaurant! :) i will definitely be coming back and bringing friends. Kid-friendliness: High-chairs are available

This restaurant is the best place to go if you want delicious ramen if your ever by surrey central skytrain! The ladies that work here are SO SWEET! and so kind. You will definitely love it here.

I dropped in the other day and tried the Pad Thai. I got a huge plate with lots of chicken and shrimp. The shrimp were done perfectly. The spice was just right if you like it about medium heat. The only thing missing was the crushed peanuts. I thought they might have been mixed in so I never said anything but I couldnt find any. I got two meals out of it for under $20 so it was all good.

You absolutely cannot go wrong here. Everything was amazing. The pork belly left me speechless.

For a Asian fusion place that offers so many different types of Asian dishes, I was incredibly impressed by the taste, portion, and freshness. We ordered the Tonkatsu Truffle Ramen, Laksa, and Chicken wings for takeout and it was delicious and well worth the price. Takeout packaging was also amazing. Will definitely order from them again!

I ordered the shio tonkotsu ramen with the chicken chashu bowl combo. The ramen was chewy and broth was thick and tasty. I did not like the rice in the chashu bowl because I found it too mushy. I will not order the bowl again.

Huge menu with huge portions. We enjoyed the ambience too (soft lighting and newer dance music). The food came out very fast. The high chair was dirty with no safety strap, and there was no change table in the washroom, so I couldn t give 5 stars.

One of the best ramen houses!

Not the best but not the worst. Had chicken katsu ramen. Broth was good, noodles fresh. Generous portions but the meat was extremely questionable. I am not convinced it was actually chicken had a very grey, off colour and the texture was gummy. Lots of fat and gristle. It was just off and just....sketchy I did not eat it, had to throw it out. Also the katsu batter wasnt very good. I would not go back here nor do I recommend. Unless maybe youre vegetarian

The service is really good and the pricing is pretty reasonable. It s near the skytrain kind of hidden away from Surrey central mall. I will be coming back again in the future

Place is owned by family. Very friendly. Food quantity was very enough!! Highly recommended

Tasty and chill

My family came with a friend who had a nice laksa ramen at this place. New place for us to try out. The menu has many different varieties - Japanese ramen, Cantonese fried rice, Thai curry, etc. I tried the Thai red curry. Taste was bland and overly sweet. The beef was overly tenderized. My family had different Ramen broths and were tasting ok. The noodle texture was more between Japanese ramen and Cantonese wonton noodle. Portion was generous. Service was courteous.

Tired of my usual place not having a large menu, then I found Umami Ramen + Grill and I have a new usual place! The only thing that I have to say is that 2 out of the 3 times Ive gotten the chow mien the broccoli has been gritty, like there is sand in it or something. If they could solve that itd be perfect.

Super bland food. Could ve ate cup noodles and gotten more flavour. Not worth the price. Genuinely disappointing experience. Will never come back.

Came for the Ramen & a smoothie, once received, were amazing. However, the experience was tainted by a series of service mishaps. My Ramen initially had egg, to which Im allergic, despite the menu clearly indicating its absence. Although corrected, it took 40 minutes from ordering to receive the right dish. My smoothie arrived simultaneously, which meant a long wait. After finishing, I waited for over 35 minutes to get my bill, even after multiple reminders. I expressed my feedback, hoping for at least a small gesture for the inconveniences, but was met with indifference. Sadly, despite the delicious food, I wont be returning due to the lackluster service

I order food through Uber Eats but the food taste so salty

Absolutely delicious Ramen. I have been coming here for more than a year and I can say with confidence that their Ramen is always super flavorful, maybe not so sure about the rest of the menu though. The best part about this place is the portion size and that draws me here always - hope they dont change anything.

The ramen is really good imo but I found other stuff could be improved. After walking in no one greeted me so I just asked where I should sit, then walked over to grab a menu after getting a seat. The way to the counter is through the center of the seating area so you arent going to have an atmosphere because people are walking up to place or pick up takeout orders. Theres also no condiments at all on the tables which is pretty weird for a sit down restaurant. The staff werent really attentive either, Ive had staff at a coffee shop notice empty plates and take them away but I had to call someone over when I went here. Lastly, the signs on the door are outdated. I believe the sign on the door said the truffle ramen was $14 but the menu was around $17, Im assuming the sign on the door has the prices from earlier in the year?

Its just okay. Very average with average prices. If youre craving ramen, this place will do it. Food : 4/5

I had the last bowl of ramen there and it tasted good. But what amazed me was the hospitality of the staffs who were closing the restaurant. They both were so professional and dedicated. Will definitely come back.

The service and atmosphere is good. The servers treat us with kindness and in a fun manner. The ramen is really food for its price, but it taste super regular. I saw other people eat here and the portion is relatively big for its price, which is good.

I got the #10 Ramen which I loved, just had to add little chilli to it which made it perfect comfort food. Also, our server served us with 100% generosity. Greatly recommended!!

Taste like a $16 bowl of Mr Noodles

One of the best places to have ramen around. I have tried 3 types of ramen but chicken katsu Ramen is a must try thing, its the one with white colour broth in the photos. The fried rice experience wasnt good.

We absolutely love this place!!! Very friendly, polite and understandable. Food has always been great and the orders are the huge amounts of food. The price is very good. The menu selection is one of the most impressive selections I seen yet for this type of restaurant. Price is on point. In my eyes this is a must try!!!!!

Excellent food very filling

The food was great. But the service was slow. We had to ask several times for our water and drinks. But otherwise its a great place to enjoy some great Raman and other snacks on a cold and rainy day.

Good value and friendly staff free parking is not great but they do have pay parking nearby.

I thought this place only served Japanese food but you can pretty much order any type of popular southeast Asian dish. Craving Malaysian roti canai check how about Thai Tom Yum soup check Hainanese chicken yes Chinese Spicy dry garlic ribs also yes. We decided to go Chinese for this visit. The food serving was generous and the food was pretty good. Definitely good value for this place. I will have to come back and try their other southeast Asian dishes. Feedback to follow.

We tried the Yaki-udon and the miso ramen. The yaki udon was by far the best, 100% recommended. The ramen had a very tasty and rich broth, the chashu was perfectly cook, but the noodles were terrible like they were instant noodles. The rest of the food is amazing.

For Honesty Umami is top rate. I dropped a wallet after lunching there and I called them about it. They took my phone number and reported the day after that they have found it under the table. They returned it to me and wouldn t take a reward. Honest management and staff. Thank u.

We order the same items all the time but every time they would look different and taste different :( i think they change their recipes very often. Food tastes good but sometimes it s disappointing when you re expecting what you had last time but it turns out to be something completely different The variety of options are great though.

Food was so good and a great value. Veggies are fresh and delicious. I recommend the salt and pepper fried squid, its my favorite there. They also have fried Rotato (twist) potatoes. So many things to choose from on the menu, 100% recommend.

Wow ..just wow. That was hands down the best ramen I have ever had in my life. Just ordered for my wife kids and I and the only problem is it is all done and there s non left. Not that I think I could fit another bit in anyways. The broth was sooooooooo dam good I feel like if I could only have one food for the rest of my life, this would be it. Definitely get the Ramen here. Delicious broth thick with collagen. Very large portions couldnt finish my meal.

We came back for a second chance so Im editing my review: Big full plates of yummy comfort food. Im especially keen on the black garlic tonkatsu. It is hard to get anything since theres usually one or two waiters for the whole place. But once you put your order in the food comes out relatively fast. Pricing is super accessible and there are lots of options. Recommended if you are not in a big rush My previous review for reference: We got there, and nobody was there to seat us or anything, so we walked in and took a seat at a booth. We were there for a good 15 minutes. Waitresses kept walking by not even looking our way, almost intentionally ignoring us. We felt like we did something wrong by walking in or they were terribly short-staffed or something so we just left. Maybe some other time. There were only other 2 tables taken when we got there. The rest was just taken out keeping them busy.

A very homey, comfy and private place to go to with family or friends. Their Ramen is one of the best. Homemade noodles yummm... Food
