Sabai Thai Restaurant in Surrey

This is one of the worst places to order soup. We ordered veggie soup and it is full of mushrooms. Called the restaurant to reason with them but veggies means mushrooms according to the them. They did not provide any proper explanation and just hung up. One of worst customer service experience.

Food was okay but service was really bad, the server was adding tips to the bill without even asking. Which pissed us off and we decided not to tip and the waiter had the audacity to say you should tip.

The table service was disappointing. I ordered tea but it was never served. Our group of four tried multiple times to get our server s attention, but we were ignored for quite a while, despite the restaurant having only one other table occupied. Eventually, the server came over, but to our surprise, food was served with blue house cleaning gloves. The fish cakes were rubbery and seemed overcooked, as if they d been sitting in oil too long, and they didn t look fresh. The serving portions were very small for what was supposed to be a large order. Overall, it was a very disappointing first experience at this restaurant.

We went in & ordered food. Asked the manager if the spring roll noodles had ajinomoto.. the guy started laughing, making fun of us infront of us, with his colleagues. Every dish that he brought infront of us, he kept repeating & making fun of no ajinomoto very sarcastically. We also told him its not funny, he should stop repeating it. Very rude & poor customer service we ended up leaving

Best Thai food in Surrey! So good. We ve been coming here for years. I recommend the red curry, chicken cashew nut, fried rice, pad Thai with prawns.

Called 6 times 7:50pm Saturday night no answer. Finally got thorough wanted to order a dish for pick up. He said sorry to busy call back later. Lol wow. How about never. Obviously he is not the owner. Im sure he will be impressed.

Their food is amazing, their customer service not so much. We were waiting and 2 ladies walked infront of us, the server immediately asked if they wanted a table for 2 even though we were respectfully standing there. One of the ladies said they were first, the server respond its ok do u want sitdown or take out and walked them to the front, she came back to us, didnt say hi or anything walked us to a table, put two menus and left, comeback later with water and just put infront of us still no hello or anything, we decided to take the food to go. Food is great, but be prepared to be ignored.

Pleasant restaurant food was not ery good everything was super sweet we ordered one dish at a time just to enjoy each dishes flavour it all tasted the same sweet...there was no spice ..why do restaurant that represent a certain region and are afraid to use things like fresh chillies etc little disappointed was looking for true thai spice

First time ive come here! I found the food very tasty , we ordered 4 diff dishes. All were very good, decent size portions. Staff very Friendly, helpful . Older restaurant, small, quaint.

I frequently go here for lunch and they have some nice lunch specials that come with a spring roll and a little salad as well as your choice of main entree. It can get really busy sometimes and thus the service time can vary greatly. I wish they had green or jasmine tea but nonetheless very affordable delicious food. Definitely give the yellow curry a try and lock your car if you leave it in the free lot.

Love their Sabai fried rice. Pad Thai not so much. Ordered Pad Thai with Tofu and didn t find much Tofu in it. If you select a protein the Pad Thai will anyway contain Tofu. They will not add extra if you select Tofu. You just pay the same amount you would pay for the protein.

Our Fav Thai place in whole of metro Vancouver! Really good flavours. Could do better with the appetisers and soups.

They give decent quantity per entree and pad see ewe was tasty.

First time coming here, no wait to sit down, food is delicious, we had the Pad Thai, Pad Se Ew, Papaya salad and satay chicken skewers, food came out within 10 minutes, and did not disappoint, will be coming here more often!

My wife and I have been here a few times now. First off, the customer service from the gentleman who takes our orders is excellent, we were impressed, especially that he remembered our favourite order after only our third visit. We like the same things: Thai tea, spring rolls as an appetizer, spicy noodles with beef, and the mango/rice dessert. The food tastes great, and we definitely intend to keep going back.

I ve been here before and I remember the food being really good, unfortunately we came in recently and the pad Thai was so undercooked I could hardly chew and swallow the noodles. There were times I thought I would have to spit some out to prevent choking. There were also hardly Andy shrimp. The yellow curry was ok but not super flavourful, the potatoes in particular were extremely bland.

The food was absolutely amazing. My guests from Gatineau and Ottawa just loved it. See you next time we are in town!!

The price is not expensive, the food is sweet, there are many customers, but there is only one person serving outside, simple lunch

Food was excellent. Service was good. We had yellow curry and rice, a sweet and sour shrimp dish and middles. Sadly I did not make note of the dish names, but it was so good that I have made arrangements to go again

Perfect pad Thai and great beverages. Atmosphere is great and theme makes sense - restaurant sticks to what they know best and it s working for them. No useless items on menu or subpar service- these people know what great food is and don t change. Both times I ve ordered takeout and sat in have been great (especially since pad Thai travels well). Try this place next time you crave Thai food and you won t regret it. they need to expand or open one up closer in surrey because it s tasty and have good portion sizes. Fantastic food and super friendly service.

This is by far my favourite Thai restaurant in all of the lower mainland. I have quickly become a regular customer here, introducing many friends & loved ones to this place, & everyone I have brought has fallen in love with their food. Not only is their food absolutely delicious (my favourites are their pad thai, pad see ew, and their thai milk tea), but the people working here always welcome you with a big smile and are very kind people. The place is decorated beautifully and the ambience is quite nice. Not to mention, the service is also quite fast. Highly recommend this place :)

Took my beautiful girlfriend here it was our first time but definitely not the last. Amazing service by staff the food was amazing and big portions as well. Small local restaurant with very warm welcoming environment and very very clean. Ordered soup (Tom Yum Goong)for the first time from this restaurant. We gave them specific instructions for no mushrooms and to make it little more spicy and my-o-my they followed the instructions and soup exceeded our expectations . I had a really bad flu and it opened up my sinuses and now it is a go to comfort food.. plus the quantity,quality of soup is good. Tasted so fresh. Definitely going back to taste more dishes.

Delicious Thai food Ordered on uber eats and the food came hot and pretty fresh. Excellent flavors, chicken was cooked perfectly and I loved the spices they used. The pad thai was perfect. Portions were actually decent compared to other thai places. Would definitely order again.

Just a superb Thai choice. Went with my sister and both ordered the Satay skewers and Pad Thai prawn/chicken. As good as it gets. Very classy and clean, and the servers were ultra professional. They were surprised when I ordered the off-menu/elevated spice level (Thai spice), but it was just perfect.

Best Thai around here not pricey but not cheap.$14 for entree and $8 for 4 spring rolls, pretty normal for nice Asian restaurant. Been there many times 5/1/20 pad Thai had hard as rock things in it, not normally in it. Not a pleasant surprise. 12/2022 this place is just a rip-off now. Dishes are so all but prices are still high. $20 for something that looks like $5, barely enough for 1 person.

I have been going to this restaurant for over 6 years and have had an amazing experience every time. The people are friendly and give top notch service. The food is extremely tasty and portions are generous. Even after ownership changed, the new owners maintained everything that I loved about coming to Sabia Thai, making this my favourite restaurant!

All dishes had little or no meat as well as vegetables, some burnt pieces. Pineapple rice had 6 little pieces of pineapple. I will never eat or order from them again !

Used to always get the lettuce wrap, but switched over to the chicken with basil. Great food.

I called to make an order for pickup (one dish). The person on the phone said Ready in 5 minutes. I thought I heard wrong so I confirmed and started a timer on my phone. I live nearby and I walked through the door when it said 4 minutes; by 7 minutes I was walking out with my order. The food is good and the staff was friendly- this place seems like the real deal. Highly recommended and I cant wait to try more from their menu!

Decided I wanted Royal Pad Thai for dinner on Friday. Once I got home the tofu and shrimp were burnt, some of the noodles were really hard. Never again!

Apr 2023 edit: new ownership, new kitchen staff and unfortunately food is not the same, not as authentic or tasty imo. Good service still. One of the only places to serve truly authentic thai food. The entire team are thai, and offer several authentic options to their dishes. Having been to thailand a few times, most restaurants cater their dishes to north american tastes but Sabai truly is a taste of thailand. Fantastic noodles, papaya salad, curries. One of the best I ve had in Canada.

Overall the food is very tasty, service is awesome. My only complain would be they charge 25cent for takeway box. Portion size could be a bit bigger but I understand with the current economic condition it is difficult for everyone.

My favourite local Thai restaurant. I personally prefer it to Ban Chok Dee where the food has been incredibly inconsistent when its busy. Its a little homier but the food is more consistent even when theyre packed. The royal pad thai, pad see ew, papaya salad are always amazing here. The stir fried noodles have the proper smokey wok flavour which is key to a good fried noodle. The staff are friendly and the prices are reasonable for the portion. Highly recommend!

This is one of the best thai restaurants in the lower mainland. The royal pad thai is on point. The only thing that would make it better is proper chives instead of green onion. The whole fried tilapia is very good. Dont really recommend the curry or lettuce wrap. Fish cakes are...not great, but not too bad. Cant do everything well! But well worth going. Great service.

Small Thai restaurant in Surrey, Manov (spelling of his name?) was our server, asked our names, suggested different dishes, food prices reasonable. Main course $$. Had a glass of wine and it was $5-6 dollars. Food was excellent, loved the waiter. He joked around with us. We enjoyed the experience so much that weve become regulars. I meet a friend there because its halfway meeting point for us. Manov remembered our names the second time we went there. I had Royal Pad Thai which is stir fried rice noodle in authentic Thai tamarind sauce with prawns, tofu, Egg, green onion and bean sprouts topped with coriander and crushed peanut. Vegetarian meals available. Parking lot is small but restaurant is behind Guildford town centre so could probably park there and walk across the street. Definitely recommend it to people that enjoy Thai food. I will continue to return and try other dishes. Delicious!!!

If I could give less stars I would. This was probably the worst food I have ever eaten. That s a lie because I didn t eat it, it went directly in the garbage after three bites. The pad Thai looked like slop, noodles over cooked and saturated with sauce. The yellow curry soup tasted like straight milk and sugar. Very dissatisfied customer and will never eat from here again.

Green Curry with chicken. It was so good.

We three had the thai beef salad, red curry, and yellow curry. Ingredients we usually dont like tasted good in it. Dont be too put off by mint in salad-- it was just a small flavour accent to the spicy, fish saucy dressing. The leaves themselves and their tough texture were not in it. And there was plenty beef, well worth the price. I wanted to recommend the beef salad too, but it wasnt available on the list! Each dish had a variety of ingredients you wouldnt find most places; it really felt deluxe and I had to help mom finish her yellow curry, these are good servings.

Dishes ordered were salty. Order was missed. Family restaurant. Okay.

I have been going to this restaurant over 12 years . I was there yesterday and found out the owners had changed . So he chief has changed as well . The Tom Yam soup was just horrible. The food I order was horrible. I don t think I will go back there again .

Yummy Thai Food

The food is not authentic Thai cuisine. Bland and sweet . Panang curry is a dry curry dish, theirs was soupy. Overall, a disappointing dining experience. Recommended dishes

Good place to visit!

The yellow curry is delicious, but the change to fried tofu rather than plain tofu is a bit disappointing.

The food tasted good, however, the portion size, and amount of meats/veggies to sauce leaves much to be desired. Shrimp tails left in the Tom yum soup, 4 prawns and 6 pieces mushroom in it only. See picture. The red Thai curry was oily. Fish cakes were good but tiny. Very pricey.

Would definitely go again. Ordered Green Curry Beef and Red Curry chicken with Pineapple.

Love the customer service here, everyone was really friendly and I feel so welcome! The food was amazing, I had royal pad thai! I would say that its a bit oily for me; however, you can really taste the tamarind sauce. The portion WAS HUGEEEE! I don t know why others say its small tho I also have their milk tea, it was not too sweet and really similar to the one I tried in Thailand. Would definitely come back here and recommend it to everyone! Moreover, its even near the Guildford mall, which is so convenient to dine in!

You can always count on great dishes and service. We love the Royal pad thai and Pad Kee Mao. Definitely have become regulars!

Ordered online they say they have coconut rice..when we got home was only regular rice.... And rice was undercooked... Not authentic at all... Probably not going back ever .. and the fish cake costed 11 dollars... And the papaya salad... Definitely not worth it...

We got take out from here for the first time. What the hell is wrong with the portion size? It s just tiny!! Not even enough for a 2 year old.

Ordered a medium spicy Pad Thai from Uber eats and it was too spicy I couldn t even take a bite. I m a south Asian who can handle spicy food but this spicy level was too much. Never ordering from this place ever again.

I ordered some pick up Thai food. I called to order and heard that they were under new management. Boy, was I ever pleasantly surprised. It was SOOO good. Good Job! Tasted fresh with lots of ingredients.

For vegetarians, there is a good option in menu pineapple fried rice with Papaya salad bowl.

This is a lovely restaurant. Food is excellent. To be a fine dining restaurant you should have a wine list and a variety of beers. There are no cocktails and the only wine they have is the cheapest wine I have ever tasted. Please take this into consideration. My husband and I would come for our date night if the wine was better.

Came for the weekday lunch special. Pretty standard, good Thai food. We were the only ones in the restaurant which was a bit sad. Id come back for dinner if I was in the area. This part of Surrey really lacks Thai food, we need more places like this!

Been looking for a go to place for traditional Asian beef lettuce wraps in this area for quite some time now. This place did not disappoint!

I have been going there for many years and unfortunately this place is not what it used to be. We have ordered take out and I was surprised how small satay skewers were in our order. But because I have been loyal customer for many years, we have ordered again after couple weeks. We usually order medium spicy but unfortunately one of the dishes was extra, extra spicy and we really couldnt enjoy the meal. Unfortunately, we were far away from restaurant when we were eating our take out so I couldnt go back to restaurant. I have called them and left a message but nobody called me back. While called there was a message that restaurant is under new management so maybe this is the reason restaurant is not what it used to be.

Is amazing food and better service!

Update 2022: still the best place for tasty Pad Thai. We did take out on Valentine s Day. Food was delicious. We ordered chicken pad Thai, and the chicken red curry bowl with a side of rice. At first I was worried because the containers of food looked small but the sever had assured us it would be enough for 2 people. When we served it on plates it definitely looked like a decent size portion. We had a little bit of leftovers. We ve eat in other times at this restaurant years ago and the food was just as delicious and this is why we chose this for our valentines dinner. The only thing is the price tag on this bill was $47. For 2 items and rice, that s expensive. Especially that both dishes don t have that much chicken especially the pad Thai. Other than that very tasty food, better than most places in Surrey/Langley area.

Ordered Pad Ke Mau through uber and it was very good

Called for the lunch special and asked about gluten-free options and was reassured the pad Thai could be done gluten free. Picked up my order and when I returned to work I opened it and saw a fried spring roll (which is all gluten). I called the restaurant and told them about the incident and was told that the roll had been in despite needing gluten free and they replied that they didnt realize it wasnt gluten free. With allergies (I made it clear it was not a preference), if staff offer food options they should ensure that all staff are completely aware of what the allergen is and which items contain it. Disappointing and definitely wont be back.

Their food is still very good, but portions seem to be getting smaller. Different owner? Staff are friendly and attentive.

It was alright. The food was ok, portion size was a little small for me. Service was nice. They gave a nice tamarind candy at the end of the meal.

We have had some of the best Thai food weve eaten here. Unfortunately this last visit, the papaya salad was too spicy and the red curry had too much fish sauce so it tasted kinda like feet. Normally, this place is on point, but they do have their off days too. Edit: Oct 2022 - we ordered again from Sabai for delivery via Uber Eats. Despite asking for it to be mild, it was delivered extremely spicy. The restaurant refused to do anything to remedy this.

Awesome food - cant wait to come back for more

Had a takeout meal from here recently and everyone really enjoyed that. We decided to go for a sit down dinner and once again was really pleased with the meal. The service we received was noteworthy; very attentive without being distracting, friendly and polite, exactly as I like it. The location is a little unassuming, but its easy to get in and out from all directions at a pretty busy intersection, and there is easy parking. The place was nearly full, so I think the word is getting out and I hope that means the restaurant will be around for a good long time. Looking forward to returning often. Parking: Easy access

Right outside of the restaurant, and clearly they don t want any more customers or business. The website says it closes at 2:30 and we reached at 2:13. Drove all the at from Langley. I wanted to ask him if they could do take outs, but the guy at the reception was clearly in a rush to push away new customers. Disappointing ..

Love the Thai food here

The food is great, tried it pre Covid. Went to pickup dinner about a week ago and got a peek inside the kitchen. One cook with a mask under her chin and the other with no mask at all. I got a refund and got out as quickly as possible. Worst part is when I told them I was not comfortable eating there due to the lack of safety they just stared at me in silence. No apology and they didnt tell the cooks to put their masks on correctly.

Lovely staff, very pleasant. The restaurant has a nice layout. Everyone was logically/safely spaced out. As for the food... I ordered the prawn pad thai as listed in the online menu. For the price, it really wasnt worth it for me. It only came with 4 (average sized) prawns and a about 6 (or so) small pieces of tofu. The cost is $17 before tax. not really impressed. Wasnt even spicy.

My favourite Thai restaurant. You honestly can t go wrong with any of the food. The prices are a little higher than other Thai restaurants, but the food quality makes it absolutely worth it.

One of my clients is in the area and we usually duck into ST for a Pad Thai, I like the shrimps. Most restaurants are struggling so I eat small & local whenever I can.

Amazing food. Cozy environment. Great service. Nice people. As others have mentioned, the price is high at $17, however, you get at LEAST 2 meals out of the Pad Thai, so closer to $8.50 per meal. Either way, the food is so good that I could justify $17 for two meals EASILY. Best restaurant in Guildford, in my opinion.

Got takeout. Loved it. The curry was quite a bit on the sweet side for me... but it was still really good. The prices are relatively high, but the portions are big to match it.

Sabai is our new place for Thai. Their food is like the country and its people, generous and exotic. The have survived the pandemic in style and continue to bring joy to us, in the form of Pad Thai, and the usual collection of colorful Currey sauces. They observe the precautions, but are now open for limited indoor dining. Thanks for making my pandemic a bit easier.

Great service, tasty food and good portions. Really happy with our visit! We ordered the pad see ew and green curry and both were bursting with flavor. Ingredients were very fresh and the vegetables had a slight crisp to them that you still want after cooking it. Will definitely visit again. Also, the male waiter was wonderful, checked up on us multiple times and was very friendly!

Good ambience and authentic food. Dishes have good flavour, but there are a few more burnt pieces than I would like. Also a bit small with more vegetables and less meat and noodles than I expected. Skewers are a very good deal and have excellent flavour. Tender meat with delicious peanut sauce. Overall, a good choice and worth checking out if you like Thai food.

Has been our favorite restaurant for over a decade but sadly the food has changed dramatically this past year. The amazing flavours of their award winning curries is simply no longer there. Seems also the owner is not interested in what their customers think. Several times over the years had emailed them asking for them to add a nice craft beer to their lame beer lineup and never once heard back a word. The same crickets when I voiced my concern recently about the change in the food. Service is still great but were no longer prepared to pay premium price for a below average product.

Usually so good..... one of my favorite restaurants is going down hill lately. Watery green curry with next to no flavour it was litterally white. Very sad. Why would you let a new chef ruin your reputation. . Add more curry paste... add less water or coconut milk add some coconut cream instead and it will be on the right track....

First try here and so happy to find out this place! Those portions fit for two Asian girls appetite and taste a lot :) try the papaya salad!!

Excellent food and service. Staff are very kind and welcoming. My favourite dish is the Royal Pad Thai. I have had the Pad Thai, Royal Pad Thai and the Pra Ram long srong. The Pra Ram was too watery for me. However, I have loved everything else I have tried.

Good food, good service! The Pad Thai could have been a little more flavorful - hence the 4 instead of the 5.

A little pricey, BUT, best pad Thai I ve had since being in Thailand. So thank you for that treat!!! Totally worth the 20 bucks - (LARGE portion), made it extra spicy and extraaaa peanuts as requested! Only suggestion I have would be to include some chopsticks and/or fork and a napkin! DELICIOUS none the less

Sharing that the restaurant has not updated their website nor their voice mail in regards to ordering lunch takeout. We planned to takeout lunch for our friends birthday lunch. Their website says they are open for 11 am. They voicemail says to leave a message for takeout but fails to mention to give 24 hours notice. Now scrambling for alternative plans . Letting others know since they dont let their customers know...Hugely disappointed.
