Authenticity is the order of the day with the best meats in town prepared front and centre for all to see on a traditional Parilla (barbecue) and Asado (pit of fire). This unique way of barbequing has been explored by Ben Milgate and Elvis Abrahanowicz, both from fine-dining backgrounds. All the meat, fish and vegetables are cooked over coals to capture that distinctive smoky flavour. Ben and Elvis have established solid relationships with a number of local farmers and producers and this has given them the chance to be inventive with the menu and to make the most of seasonal produce. Porteno’s complementary wine list boasts the largest selection of Argentinean wines in Australia that are all hand selected by co-owner Joseph Valore.

I booked Porteno for my partner's birthday, and we had an incredible dinner here! We had a warm welcome when we stepped in and the atmosphere is really great. We were well taken care of by Renan, he is great, explained the menu to us with sense of humour. What we had: Wagyu tongue and pepper⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thick cut wagyu tongue, great portion and super fresh. King prawn⭐️⭐️⭐️ Taste good, but a bit pricy. The prawn hasn't been deveined, it would be more pleasant to eat if they remove the vein. Woodfired Goldstreet Jersey Milk Cheese⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I am a cheese lover, I always order cheese dish wherever I go if they have it on the menu. This woodfired cheese is my favourite, full of flavour and soft inside, very delicious. Bone Marrow⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This is my partner's favourite. Great portion and well balance with shallot and herbs. It goes so well with the woodfired bread, simple bread but yum. 42 days dry aged bone in sirloin⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Since my partner and I love charcuterie and cured meat, so we tried the dry aged steak in here, as their dry aged cabinet looks amazing. I would say their dry aged sirloin is really outstanding, for the flavour and the doneness. I just realised I actually had never tasted a good dry aged steak elsewhere before! The one in Porteno was beautifully done and please try if you love dry aged steak!!! Service was ok staff are friendly except for the part that we have been sitting here with ONLY a snacks/drinks menu and no water for a while since we walked in and noticing people who came after us got the actual menu getting their water and ordering food. We were really confused about what was going on. I asked for the menu but he said he will grab it and he didn’t come back so I asked someone else AGAIN so we finally got the menu. I didn’t want to make a scene or start an argument, plus I really appreciated that they arranged for a window table for my birthday. Dry aged steak was nice. Highly recommend bone marrow.

This is a great steakhouse with a friendly atmosphere. The food is excellent, as expected, but let’s focus on the meats. I ordered the T-bone and the Wagyu ribeye, and based on my experience, I believe these are the best two cuts on the menu. Both are hearty and satisfying, cooked close to perfection. I asked for medium-rare, but it leaned slightly toward medium (I prefer my steak more on the rare side). So if you’re like me and prefer it on the rarer side, it might be worth asking the server to aim for that. The flavor is rich, with a hint of charcoal and what seems like applewood from the grill. Overall, it’s a solid steakhouse, especially if you’re comfortable with the price point.

We celebrated a birthday at Porteño with my friend and our daughters, and from the moment we stepped in, everything was absolutely stunning. The service was professional and enthusiastic, the dishes were exceptional, and the atmosphere was incredibly comfortable. The girls loved the Kaviari caviar so much that they asked for more! After having breadoyster,wagyu tongue, wagyu carpaccio,caviar ,bone marrow, spring vegetables, we were a bit worried if we could finish the 1.3kg steak (500g exclusive Cobubgra Station Sirloin and 850g Ribeye), but when it was served, we were amazed by how perfectly it was cooked. We nearly finished everything! Only two ribeye bones and a few slices of steak were left, which the staff kindly packed for us. For dessert, they prepared candles for our birthday celebration, and the team warmly wished us a happy birthday. We had such a wonderful evening—5 stars just aren’t enough to express how much we loved Porteño! Super, super recommended!

I came to Porteño Sydney for my birthday and had an early seating at 5:45 PM. Unfortunately, we were crammed into a corner with tables so close together it felt uncomfortable. The food was great, but the service was disappointing we only saw staff when dishes were being served. Last night, seven of us came here to celebrate a child s birthday. However, in the middle of the night, two adults and two children started vomiting, and another adult had diarrhea. By today, everyone is experiencing the same symptoms vomiting and diarrhea and feeling very unwell. I tried emailing you but received no response. Considering the high price I paid, it is unacceptable that there was an issue with food safety, leading to what appears to be food poisoning for all of us, and yet there has been no reply from you.

Porteno is ranked 40th in the worlds steak restaurant rankings. I had high expectations as it was already a famous restaurant in Sydney. In conclusion, it was great. In the reviews, they say that there is a difference depending on how the meat is cooked when grilled over a wood fire, but the T-bone steak I ate was cooked to the best medium rare. The tuna ceviche and wagyu carpaccio were also excellent. The Pinot Noir wine recommended by the sommelier was also good. We made a reservation and went on a weekday, so we often saw empty tables. If you are going on the weekend, be sure to make a reservation.

I work as a chef in a steakhouse in Taiwan, and the first thing I do when I come to Sydney is to eat local steaks. Different from the American beef that Taiwanese often eat, Australian beef usually has more flavor and aftertaste, leaving an endless aftertaste. This time my friend and I ordered the T-bone and rumb cap, both of which were perfect. You can see the chefs ability to control the heat. The drinks are amazing and the cocktails are on par with a fine bar. Other dishes are of average quality. What Im not used to eating more is the beef tongue, which has a soft and waxy texture thats quite special. For dessert, I chose classic pudding, which was average. All in all, if you have the opportunity to come to Sydney, this is one of the things you can t miss on your list.

first time trying porteno - argentina restaurant! we got four people - good to order a table of food for sharing. for snacks - we ordered: - truffled tartare tarlet: very good bite size snacks, but a little bit too cheesy, which overpowered the flavor of tartare. - beef empanada - this is like a dumpling stuffed with beef, it would be way better if its a smaller one. for appetizer: - king prawns - this is by far the best dish of the night, meat was juicy and so flavorable - house made chorizo - the sauce (sofrito) was the highlight and it went perfectly well with the dish. for mains: we ordered a 2kg special dry aged steak - beef was cooked medium rare - it does taste really good, tender, juicy, however its a bit too fat and oily when you had few pieces more. It was a lovely experience but to me the price is a little bit over and the food doesnt make me wow . If you love nice service, this is definitely a good place to go. cheers on a saturday!

I would describe the dining experience as DESPERATE. After served the steak, we are literally by our own with no water for half an hour. This is very frustrating given that the steak is so greasy. This is the very first time I have to leave a large portion of steak on the table unfinished. It is simply too greasy. I can enjoy A5 beef buffet, but I simply can t have more of the ribeye.

I visited here on the last day of my trip to Korea, looking forward to eating good food. We reserved a bar spot on a weekday, so it wasnt difficult to make a reservation. We made a reservation the day before. Among the foods recommended, we ordered and ate oysters, T-bone steak, and endive dishes. We were satisfied with the appetizers and side dishes, but the main dish, steak, was not for us. I ordered it to be cooked medium rare, but it came out close to medium rare in the center and close to well done on the outside. It may be difficult to control the grilling because it is cooked over an open flame, but it was disappointing that the texture and taste were not uniform due to the different degrees of baking. Also, the fat and tendons were not properly removed, so some of it was spit out after eating. For others, we recommend ordering Wagyu sirloin, tenderloin, or sirloin separately rather than T-bone. The service and atmosphere were very good, but the food was disappointing.

Bone marrow was good, However for a steak touted as one of the best in Sydney it left much to be desired. It was like eating uncooked chewy strips of dry aged beef doused in olive oil. I don t like food wastage but it was completely inedible and could see the shock on the waiters face taking away literally a whole steak. I didnt search and found it, but it was delayed due to a subway accident. I stopped by with my family because I had time and wanted to eat a steak. The owner here is Argentinian, so there are all soccer photos and Eva Peron photos^^ The staff were very friendly and fun. I was told it would take a long time for the main menu to come out, so they recommended the snack menu. I ordered a truffle tartart and it had a good flavor and went well with beer. I also ordered grilled cheese. It tasted like Korean-style grilled corn cheese, but was much more delicious. Roasted broccoli was also good. The lamb ribs were $92 and came with four, which was perfect. It was the first lamb ribs in Australia and it was a success. The wagyu rump steak was also good. The T bone steak was also very delicious. The wine price was not cheap, We were passing by and visited without a reservation. At the table next to us, there were couples all dressed up in suits. I felt like I needed to make a reservation on the weekend. I am very satisfied.

Food is wonderful. Service is the worst I don t like how they train their staff to push you order their $300+ wagyu. We Ordered the $120 one a few other dishes whcih end up with 140 per person. Which is fair enough for me and my partner. It s our third visit so we have our favourite dishes. Not interested in the chocolate eating wagyu at all. But the staff just keep indicating you that you might not have enough food. I saw two ladies next to us have to finish a huge portion of steak which will be me if I listen to him/her. This would totally ruin the experience. They should ask whether it is your first time visit instead of pushing everyone to order the same. The staff have not enough knowledge to the dish on their menu but only point you to the expensive one. Do you know that sausage has been on the menu for a long while being so popular It is delicious and will feed people pretty well. Do you know not everyone is keen on eatting every dish meat only Vegies are also necessary to me. Hope the manager see my note and provide a better training on the service.

Food was sooooooooo disappointing. Beef tongue, no flavor whatsoever, I kind hope the chef forgot to put salt on it that day otherwise that means either there was something seriously wrong with me, or there are insane amount of people with no taste buds giving out good reviews, or worse, people getting paid to give good reviews. Ordered steak, it was shocking how you can make steak raw and dry at the same time, how can a medium rare or even rare steak be dry? It was also amazing that they managed to find a piece of sirloin steak with so much silver skin and tendon. If a piece of meat is that bad of a quality, what s the point of dry aging it to begin with? When the food is good, it makes you forgot a lot of details, otherwise you start to nitpick, like how close the tables were, how the waiters didn t put away our coats despite how little space we had to begin with, how they seriously asked that s it? That s not a lot of food with a disappointing tone when we decided we weren t that hungry, how they didn t bother to ask how we want our steak to be cooked, I guess the best way to have dry age is medium rare, but it doesn t hurt to ask.etc etc Overall,if it is 60 dollar per person family friendly steak house, I would have given it a better rating, but not for this price point

Food was exceptional, definitely recommend the tartare tartlet, fried potato, Hervey Bay scallop crudo to start and many options available for steaks depending on what type of cut you like cooked perfectly. 100% recommend to add the witlof as a side as it s super refreshing and helps cut the through the fattiness of the steak. Desserts were also killer with us opting for the flan as well as the dessert special breakfast in Buenos Aires. I usually order them based on user reviews. Beef bone marrow is too raw. Neither my boyfriend nor I can accept it. The steak is aged for 42 days. I only recommend the steak. This restaurant is also famous for its steak, so if you mainly eat steak there is no problem. We were just there to have a meal, but the staff united in their racial discrimination against us. This was very unfriendly. As a restaurant with higher pricing, the service was nonexistent, racial discrimination was rampant, and the food was mediocre. I will never come back and will inform everyone around me that this restaurant discriminates against Asians! Spending money here only resulted in disgust and ruined our mood.

They are full blooded wagyu chose fed, means they are 100% from Japan or cows that have the Japanese blood line. They are fed Cadbury choc and the steak literally melts in your mouth!!! Everyone recommended the steak here, so I went there for my boyfriends birthday. The appetizers and wine were all okay. I dont know if the hot food staff in the kitchen that day was new or if the quality of the meat was not that good, but the steak was so dry and tough that I frowned after taking one bite and could barely chew it. We went to Porteno a couple of weeks ago for work dinner. I loved how the restaurant looks and it was also fun to watch the chefs cook and prepare the different dishes. The food was really yummy -- the steak was cooked perfectly and it was paired with a really nice and balanced chimichurri sauce. The roast/ grilled chicken dish we had was amazing. How do you keep the chicken with a nice char and crispy skin that moist?! I wasnt able to take photos of all the dishes, because whenever they came in we just couldnt wait to dig in. We also had ceviche and a baked brie (?) for an appetiser, plus really nice sourdough with bone marrow butter. It was all delish! Giving you all 5 stars! It was a lovely night.

Come here if you want to be disappointed and flush money down the drain. One of the worst steak houses I have ever been too, with the poor service and even more poor food. I ordered the $210 dry aged rib eye medium rare, and was served it extremely rare. It made it practically impossible to cut or chew. When I asked it be cooked medium rare (for the second time), it came back well done. Over salted, over cooked. When I told the waiter, he said it was medium and left immediately Pub steaks are better at 1/10th the price. Do not recommend

Porteno almost gets it right, they have great service the wait staff are very well trained. No wonder Sydney restaurants have a shortage of trained experienced staff, Porteno has them all. The food i feel is a little lacking in taste, we ordered a huge tbone and an eye fillet, taste was ok not fantastic but it came out almost cold, maybe they let it rest too long. The sides menu is small-expectable but not really exciting, some brussel sprouts & a tomato cheese dish, you get what im saying. We ordered the tomato thing but got chips instead, ok not too bad. The meat is cooked up front on a open bbq pit smells great but it was a little bland and cold. The wine list is incredible and well worth discussing with the sommelier We wanted desert but were told we had no time left so i cant comment on that. After spending a good amount for 4 people i would have expected a little more time especially since there were many empty tables. If you want a good argentinian experience i think you can find better food.

For a steakhouse ranked within the top 50 in the world, your expectations may be too high. The environment is great and the atmosphere is perfect. The waiters, waiters, and manager guys are all very handsome, and I feel like Im having a blast. The taste of the dishes is very average, a bit greasy due to the beef bone marrow, but very fragrant. The oysters are very fresh, which is very satisfying. But it took an hour from ordering to serving the 1kg T-Bone, and I was disappointed the moment I put it in my mouth. It is also grilled over charcoal fire, but its texture and taste level are not even 1/5 of those of T-Bone, a small shop in Florence! It doesnt have the feeling of being charred on the outside and tender on the inside, with only a hint of charcoal aroma, and the salty taste is too light. After a few bites, you will feel tired and your stomach will be completely overwhelmed. I have eaten many more delicious steaks with better value for money. If I only pay for the environment and service, I feel it is a bit unsatisfactory.

Ive been hanging to try porteno for along time and was lucky enough to have our work Christmas dinner here. We did the banquet option per person and then we added a tomahawk, the mayura station flat iron waygu and the Jacobs creek inside skirt. For me the flat iron steak was my favourite. The tenderness was second to none and the flavour was amazing rich and deep while being seasoned to perfection my knife barely had to do any work. Definitely one of the best steak joints in Sydney with a wine menu to match. I cant wait to come back with my partner.

This is an outstanding restaurant which ranks in my top favourites, not just for steaks. This establishment has come a long way since my first visits to the Cleveland Street location. The space is cleanly presented while being warmly inviting. Theres no doubt that their steaks are the highlight of their menu with both fresh grain fed and dry aged options. We settled on their blood sausage entree, kingfish rillettes and the famous T-Bone steak. All dishes were fantastic in their flavour and the steak was cooked to perfection and properly seasoned accompanied with in-house chimichurri sauce. Service was friendly and efficient. They helped explain the options and assisted with our choices. Overall, there arent many other restaurants which would top Porteno for the quality of meat dishes, while their other dishes also impress. Thank you for a wonderful dinner experience.

GFG Two Hats Restaurant specializes in Argentinian-style Mexican cuisine. To be honest, it is a bit far from fine dining. Although I have expectations and tolerance for that distant place, the products are more like street food, such as Spanish blood sausage, which is a mess and the skin cannot be chewed. But I am personally impressed by their dry-aged beef. It is lightly fermented for about a month, which makes the beef full of flavor. The medium-grilled beef is also good and very tender. The service is also good. If I come back, I will order the dry-aged beef.

Service was excellent. Just a little disappointed in the flavour of the steak we received (the dry aged, 850gram - I think it was). Have definitely had better (flavoursome and more enjoyable texture) steaks elsewhere for the price of what we paid for it (200+ AUD).

I had the opportunity to dine at the restaurant last night for a date. Although the oysters were decent, the 500g bone-in sirloin MBS3+ for $150 was disappointingly chewy and overpriced. The atmosphere was not ideal, with noise and poorly positioned tables. On a positive note, the wine was good.Never again!

It s my second visit here because of the beef bone marrow was impressive. This time what left me an impression was the attitude of one of the staff who served the my table tonight. Felt rude and impolite! Dining time was 2 hours and when 1 and half hour past, while we still chatting and some food was left, he just came and took the plate and food without asking????? 3 minutes later he just put the bill on our table without saying anything and passed the EFT machine and waited. I was thinking I am dining at a proper restaurant or a fast food stall. Felt so rude and totally ruined the nice atmosphere and the high quality of food. Will not visit again with such bad experience.

Overall it was okay. The food portions were a little small and overpriced. My friend had to send back her salmon as it was over salted but they were kind enough to automatically deduct the salmon from our bill. The restaurant was nicely decorated but the space was too small for the number of people that were seated. It was difficult for me to hold a conversation with my friend who was seated 1 foot away from me due to how noisy it was near our table.

Porteno have been my long time favourite restaurant, but never wrote a review about it. After many years of opening, the style of the food have change, now its more like a woodfire style steakhouse.
