Delectably delicious, fresh and tasty. Spice Temple (even after a decade) does not disappoint. The fresh renovation is seductively dark yet warmly open, with shiny dark surfaces throughout. Trendy music not too loud so you can still talk. The meal was outstanding; we had dried Wagyu beef, pickled vegetables, sesame cucumber salad, dumplings to die for. The signature spicy chilli fish was peppery fresh & delightfully drowned our tastebuds in flavour. Simple boiled rice to balance our palette, finished up by chocolate fudge delight with sherbet lemon fluffy marshmallows. The wine choice was a dry and minerally reisling, from SA. Wonderful for an evening of tête-à-tête. Will return to work through the menu! Service could be more attentive.
The dishes were a delightful symphony of flavours, with each ingredients harmoniously complementing the others- plus, impeccable service! They have so much good things on the menu. My parents were very happy on their 49th wedding anniversary ❤️ Thank you!
Amazing. Already beaten most Chinese restaurant in Sydney. Perfectly matched my Zodiac Tiger with my favourite base liquor spiced rum. Tuna is a must try, crab is going to make your table nasty but totally worth it! Dong Po pork is so authentic, just the same as I had in China. If you are new to Chinese cuisine, don't hesitate to try this as the start of long journey. If you are og enough in Chinese cuisine but not yet tried this, you won't regret on picking this for dinner.
I had been wanting to come here for a while after hearing so many positive reviews. It did not disappoint. The flavours were delicious and made me want more. Atmosphere was amazing and the waitor was very informative. Maybe the dessert could be better but that's so small compared to the big flavours that was experienced. Can't wait to be back.
There was 10 of us and we went for a banquet. All dishes were tasty yet you need plenty of time to finish all. Starters are plenty so make sure to save some space for the mains. Steak was great but most of us were too full at that time. It’s pretty dark and intimate. You need to take the stairs down.
Perfect modern Chinese restaurant that serves you an elevated and refined version of authentic classics. I’ve seen plenty of reviews saying that this place is “whitewashed” and yes they’re catering to the public and their audience. So don’t come here looking for dishes that’ll remind you of something you had in China. Personally, we loved it here and enjoyed every dish. Everything was presented beautifully and tasted amazing as well. Unfortunately though, service ran short for us hence why this isn’t a 5 star review. There was only 1 waiter on for that night and we were never checked back on for our meal. Though, they were kind enough in acknowledging my friends birthday and gifting us yuzushu and petit fours at the end which definitely had us leaving on a positive note. A few stand out dishes for us were the raw yellow fin tuna, the steamed eggplant with 3 flavours and the stir fried prawns with king brown mushrooms. They are also currently offering $99 mud crabs for the month of June. Overall, I loved it and would return. Would recommend to those who are seeking elevated Chinese in Sydney.
What an amazing evening it was! From the moment we stepped in, our jackets were graciously taken and we were promptly seated at the cozy bar. Then taken to our table by the lovely hostess. Having Joe as our waiter was truly exceptional. He enthusiastically guided us through his favourite items on the menu and his pleasant demeanour showcased his English charm. The food arrived right on schedule and each dish was absolutely delightful. What a fantastic experience at Spice Temple! This was my second visit and I'm already eagerly looking forward to my third.
Late post, but it just shows how much I recalled and enjoyed this place! Best fine dining experience in the CBD, service was attentive, food was great - the portions were so generous we had to takeaway, and each dish was flavour packed. Dessert was excellent too, definitely order the granita. And they also provided a birthday cupcake for my sister (birthday girl). Overall, I would come again.
We love this restaurant. From the atmosphere to their delicious dishes we are always so happy to come here. A must try that won t disappoint Thank you Spice Temple!
omg! these are eye popping prices the prices dominated my thinking; i couldn t fully appreciate the food. it s very well executed and good. the room is dark and comfortable. service is on it. there are many many options for what you will spend.
Not bad if you re a white person who hasn t eaten authentic Chinese on the suburbs lol the tastes are very very strong but I did like it if I m with my Aussie mates I guess Very expensive
Amazing evening complimented by wonderful staff and fantastic food and drinks. Party of 4 and we enjoyed every dish. What was even better was the faultless service. Everyone was incredibly kind and helpful and always smiling! It makes all the difference. We felt so welcome. Thank you. A visit a must and we will be back.
Great food, service and ambiance - lovely experience for my fiance and I.
I love Spice temple so much.
Ambiance is moody and romantic, service is impeccable. Connor the bartender was engaging, innovative and overall extremely accommodating. His recommendation s and delivery of four hand crafted cocktails were spot on. We then moved to our table, almost all the dishes we ordered were a hit. For starters, the Raw Yellowfin Tuna and Prawn Wontons both knocked it out of the park. For entrees, the Kung Pao Chicken was a bit of a let down. It was so overly spiced with chillies, it made it hard to palate. There was only a couple of pieces of chicken on the overly crowded dish full of chillies (which we were advised not to eat, that they were there for presentation and flavor). Kind of odd when you consider the steep price of $49 and a name that suggests to be heavy on the meat portion. The House Style Fried Rice was also just ok. While the flavor was good, it was mushy and overdone. Table service throughout the entire meal was spectacular.
Everything amazing. Smoked duck salad was a highlight, the numbing pork unreal. I wanna eat it all.
Amazing experience. For our special evening it was delectable and another night to remember..
I had a delicious meal here, Greta was very helpful!
Honestly what does one even say when you re blown away by everything. The recently revamped space is sexy and moody, the service was impeccable, and the food, well, let s just say I have never enjoyed every single spec of food, spice, garnish or side so convincingly before. I am truly impressed with the flavour packed into every dish, the quality and the serving sizes. Sichuan pepper is rare to find so perfectly balanced. The crab, yellow tail sashimi, dry chilli wagyu beef, wontons, hot pot and lychee granita were phenomenal. I expressed my appreciation to the staff for the flavours. They gave me a container of pepper to take home which was such a beautiful gesture. Thank you so much! Highly recommend a visit here - I can t speak about what it was like prior to the refurbishment but if you re looking for a wonderful night discovering a world of flavours this is it.
Absolutely outstanding food and service
The food was absolutely lovely, particularly the yellowfin tuna, and the fried eggplant. You can tell that the chef is passionate about his work and thought has been put into each dish that arrives on the table. The cocktails corresponding to your zodiac are a really nice touch and makes each person feel special with their personalised drinks. Service was really good too. Definitely recommend and will be back!
All and all a great birthday dinner. We have been many times and over the years service and it never disappoints. Our waiter was great one of the dishes a little bland the fish dish with the heavinly facing chillies I have eaten it every time I we have visited and was alway a memorable dish. I think it was a little under seasoned this time. Other than that every thing was great
Amazing food and atmosphere and staff always helpful
What an amazing dining experience we had last night thank you ! The service , food and atmosphere was fantastic I highly recommend this place and I eat at lots of restaurants and barely review so trust me it s good
Went for lunch noodle special and its fantastic!good tasting noodle with matching wine
Great place for quick lunch. Their lunch special is a good deal. Hidden by worth looking for.
Came here for dinner on a Friday night. Was very impressed. Great setup and intimate. The food is amazing and the service great. The Pork Belly and the 3 milk cake were outstanding! I would say the cocktails were probably the weakest part of the night. They were good but nothing spectacular compared to other bars or restaurants. Great place and will be back
The restaurant had a chic vibe, with well-thought-out decor. The menu was diverse, offering a mix of familiar and unique dishes. The food was tasty, though not all dishes delivered the expected spice kick.
Been here many times. This place never disappoints. Great food atmosphere and service. Hardest thing about this place is finding the hidden entrance!
It must have changed the chef. Not as good anymore.
Came here on a Wednesday night, place was pretty packed - a testament to the great food & service!! The waiters were so accomodating when a dish was too spicy and allowed us to change no problems! Would highly highly recommend, have never received such spectacular service. Will definitely be coming back
After visiting Spice Temple in Melbourne I was excited to be able to experience it in Sydney too. Extremely let down I m sorry to say. I will list the positives and negatives. Positives: beautiful menu on paper, nice interior design and some items were okay. Negatives: The dry numbing beef was chunks of beef which did not have the same taste, texture or dryness of melbournes. Melbourne has much less fatty deposits of meat and was aged well. This one was terrible. No numbing effect. Just chunky bits of beef with poor flavour. The kung pao chicken was expensive and featured about 7 pieces of chicken and the rest of the large bowl was the inedible dried out chilli and stalks. These are added for the flavour and aesthetic, but are not meant to be literally 80% of the bowls contents. Melbournes featured a smaller serving but had more chicken and less filler. The numbing spicy pork tasted like it had a Vegemite glaze on it. Had no asian flavour and completely overpowered by that yeasty soy taste like Vegemite. We had asked for Pepsi max during our meal. We had to ask 2 further times and waited approx 25 minutes for this. It s a Pepsi max. Not a cocktail that has 15 stages and a piece of origami on top. I rate Melb s version 5 stars and give this 2. I tend to be generous with reviews but for $214 this was shocking.
Our visit to Spice Temple offered a blend of highs and lows. Several dishes, including the stir-fried pork belly, met our expectations but didnt surpass those from other Chinese restaurants in Sydney. On the other hand, the wagyu brisket and passionfruit marshmallows were exceptional. The non-alcoholic cocktails were a delightful addition to our meal. We had a concern about the environment that the restaurant couldnt control, but it was addressed seriously by the staff. Their excellent service made our special occasion feel even more memorable.
I ordered Garlic butter with egg noodle, because i like egg noodle. Thats the main reason. But instead of egg noodle, they served my noodle with thick belt noodle. Whats a disappointment.
Every single staff member was pleasant & easygoing but diligent. A perfect blend. Food was delicious & served in a timely manner to suit the order we made. Loved it. We had a show to run to see otherwise it would have been a really delightful place to settle in for the night. I don t want to spoil it but I d love to tell everyone to go.
Second time here. Great food. Will be back again.
We had such an amazing night tonight celebrating our 29th wedding anniversary we ve chosen the premium menu and lived every single dish of it the topping of the cake was when our waiter surprised us with passion fruit marshmallows and this special refreshing juice (sorry I ve forgotten the name of it) & the little chocolates thank you so much for making this such a special experience
We had a lovely dinner at Spice Temple, the food was fantastic and so was the service. We loved the spice fried chicken wings, hot and numbing dry beef, and prawn wontons to start and the brisket with steamed greens. Amazing flavours and great service.
Delicious, moreish and flavourful food with wonderfully attentive, friendly staff. The restaurant is also dimly lit for great ambience and intimacy for tables. One of my pet peeves is restaurants lit too brightly, so this was perfect. Must recommend the spice fried chicken wings, fried eggplant, stir fried pork belly and chocolate peanut parfait to name a few. The array of mocktails were also delectable.
Really good Chinese food with a unique flair. Loved their fish in heaven facing chilies, it was the most amazing Chinese fish I ve ever had. Service was top notch, highly recommend if you re in Sydney.
Really good Chinese food! The typhoon cuttlefish and the fish drowned in heaven facing chilli was excellent! The host was so kind and even offered complimentary pickles when we were unsure of ordering it. Top notch service! We will be back! Food : 5/5
Great service, the menu items in red equals spicy. Three milk cake was epic
Fine dining restaurant serves heavily white washed Chinese food. Overall experience not good. For the following reasons. 1. Food heavily modified to fit in western customers, however, the taste not good at all after all. If it tastes good then I can say its twisted or Asian fusion, but the taste not even comparable to many street food stall, its just ruining the ingredients. 2. Service is trying to resemble a fine dining level experience, on some levels the service not bad, but in some occasions theres neglection of attention in details. 3. Environment and lighting too dark and too depressing, with basement location and small entrance, it doesnt present a good image and first impression to me. 4. Price range acceptable, however, not compatible with such food quality which should be the essence of a restaurant.
Excellent food and great service My go to for special occasion. Food
Had a wonderful dinner here on Friday night with my partner. We were served by Jack who looked after us from start to finish and made sure our water was always topped up, offered menu advice and was so polite. The food was really tasty! Favourites were the crispy eggplant, raw tuna and crispy chicken wings but everything was super tasty. Ambience was such a vibe- especially for date night with the dark and moody interior. Loved it and definitely deserves higher than a 4.3!!
Very sexy place, special for date night ! Eggplant entree a must have & XO mud crab wow Food : 5/5
Great food, amazing customer service. The ambience of the restaurant was fantastic, so was the cocktails and food.
We made an online booking with a credit card deposit for a special occasion on Saturday night. We turned up at 8.30pm only to see a sign on the door saying that they had a power outage. At the very least they could have emailed, smsd or called us. We were not contacted even the day after with an apology.
We tried the Kong Pao chicken because it was recommended, despite its high price of $50 .However, we were let down by the excessive use of chili and pepper, with only a few chicken pieces in the dish. It felt like a waste of ingredients, and it made us wonder if this upscale restaurant values food quality. Naming the dish after its main ingredients could help set better expectations. Overall, it was disappointing, and we hope the restaurant considers our feedback for improvement. Additionally, wasting so much chili isnt just about the food it also affects farmers and the environment. Its concerning when big restaurants overlook sustainability. Bringing up these issues with them might encourage more responsible practices.
Delicious, fresh and world class
Great food Amazing venue Best service. Our waitress for the night was Mia and she was amazing l. Definitely recommend
There were cockroaches on crawling on the wall and table. I am never coming again. I was so disappointed and disgusted. I regret getting all dressed up and seeing the great reviews to come to a roach family fest. gross.
We had dinner last Saturday. Food was amazing, service was fautless, especially Justin & Hannibal (not sure about the spelling) who made our evening extra special. Thank you Food
Their waiter add $17 tips to my Bills secretly, and didnt provide me receipt until I ask him to give me the receipt, then I realize they charged me tips, i did nothing but just a single tap to pay my bills on the pos machine. Do remember to check your bills guys. The owner didnt respect their customers, I would recommend rather than blindly trusting your staff, you should properly train and manage your employees in case of some of them ruin your business. Worst restaurant in Sydney.
Its absolutely terrible. How could there be such an unpalatable dish? ! Who is eating it? I cant eat spicy food because Ive been taking medicine recently, so the few non-spicy dishes I ordered were terrible. Even the sweet and sour pork ribs I ordered according to the name of the dish, what I got was fried pork with garlic moss, the cooking method was completely different. The taste is also strange, the meat is hard to chew, the carpet in the basement is dirty and old, there is always a smell, the decoration is very old, only the dim lighting is interesting.
Fantastic food Fantastic service.
Back after a 5 year gap , still a frantastic restaurant with outstanding food
Went there for our anniversary after years of wanting to try it out. The raw tuna and fried eggplant starters were absolutely delicious. Unfortunately the Wagyu brisket was salty to the point that my husband couldnt eat it and was embarassed to have to ask for some replacement because it was pretty extreme. The staff was incredible and very accommodating with this (and everything else) but my Kung Pao chicken was also drowning in peppercorn that made it pretty hard to eat. (They did let us know it is a numbing sensation but it overpowered everything and made it hard to palate.) At this point I was too embarassed to also mention my dish was hard to eat because we didnt want to seem fussy. Surely it was a one off as I see it has wonderful reviews and its evident that the staff, kitchen and management care very much to upkeep standards and quality.
The staff were fantastic, and went above and beyond for us, Helping us get our pram down stairs through the back entry. Food was excellent Food
Great food
Food was great. Mia our waitress made us feel like we were special guest and was so accommodating. Great experience overall.
Service was exceptional - it was our anniversary and they surprised us with an after dinner drink. Food was amazing - it was just a great environment - food was delicious.
Excellent food great service and good atmosphere. Somewhat noisy as is very popular.
Nice venue, good service but food was average especially given cost. I would not recommend - poor value for money
Took me ages to figure out where the front door was (theres a TV screen on the whole door so it looks like an advertising window until you push it!) The service was great and so was the food.
Harry was amazing
We had family lunch at this restaurant, we ordered most of non-spicy dishes, it was very disappointed because most of dishes were very greasy, taste were so below average, but prices of each dish was high, not matching the quality of foods served.
We were seated next to the service are where the water & wine are kept. Staff kept coming and going all while our table was against the service stand. When we sat down we asked if we could move and was told no . This reservation was made close to 5 months ago! We had to ask for menus. Asked for fresh chilli 3 times, nobody came to check in on us or see if we needed more drinks. Food: * spring rolls lacked filling- felt like we were buting into pastry and not prawn and pork * Fried rice was oily, dry & cold. * Fried eggplant was extremely oily * prawn wontons lacked prawn. Won t be returning!
Seating was at 6pm. Ordered food by 6.30 and didnt eat until 9.10 even though we were told that we had to leave at 9pm . Food was average service was non existent and drinks were forgotten. Couldnt even deliver a lemonade took over 45 mins. Overall a useless venue run by useless people. Never ever again even if it was free. Very over priced for what the food was.
We had problems finding the entrance which coming from one direction is well concealed & the marked Fire Exit Only alongside does nothing but confuse. Already slightly late this did not improve things. When we did discover how to get in, we descended into the bowels of Sydney to a very dark, not at all full restaurant. Our greeter seemed more concerned on preserving our two hour time slot than welcoming us. And so it continued with a 30 minute warning sounded towards the end leading us to decide against desert. The food was good apart from the beef pink pepper pot which was brilliant to begin with but with half a pot of Cerebros table salt apparently tipped in at the bottom. The perfectly polite waiter, who knew his wine, did offer to substitute but no time!! The subterranean atmosphere did not appeal to us & customer service (rather than the perfectly good table service) needs much improvement. Vegetarian options: Not much available for Vegetarians
Great bartender! Trust the man!
Overall disappointed with the experience we had. There was no acknowledgment when we walked in, took 25 mins for a waiter to ask if we wanted drinks, we had to follow up for more drinks consistently through the night and the food service was extremely slow. Took over 2 hours to get all the dishes out to the table. The food was very nice but the service has left a bad taste in my mouth and unfortunately won t be recommending this venue to friends or family. The bill was over $1000 definitely not worth it.
The atmosphere of the place is unique. Very beautiful dark scenery with few spots, which from one point on gets tiring. The service is excellent! The girl was very pleasant, friendly and smiling, while she did not hesitate to recommend or prevent us from wrong choices. We had quite a hard time finding non-spicy dishes. Partly reasonable. What I did get to try was tasty but nothing special. I would like it to leave me some tasty memory.
We really enjoyed the food. It was very tasty, well balanced and executed flavours and textures. We had the premium banquet. The service tonight was a real let down. Very slow on the wine, for example the wine was ordered, the bottle was delivered to the table and then disappeared for 10 minutes or so. The corked sealed bottles were not opened at the table!? There was an overall lack of attention to the table, we had to get up and walk to a register to get out bill. There were no staff on the floor to request wine and the food was cold by the time the wine arrived. We spent a significant amount of money, the service was so poor and underwhelming for establishment charging these prices and of this quality. Very disappointing .
Loved the dim atmosphere. Food was lovely and surprisingly well priced. Would visit again! We had other dishes but ate it up before I could take pics!
We have mixed reviews from our dining experience at Spice Temple. Some dishes were of comparable quality and deliciousness to dishes we have had in other Chinese restaurants in Sydney and I guess we were expecting Spice Temple to have a bit more of an edge (this was particularly evident with the stir fried pork belly dish). However, some dishes were amazing e.g. the wagyu brisket and passionfruit marshmallows. We also enjoyed the non-alcoholic cocktails. A concern we had with the environment (beyond the restaurants control) was taken seriously and the service was really great. We were dining for a special occasion and the wait staff made it feel very celebratory.
Great service and vibe but disappointingly few options for non meat eaters.
My friend and I chose SET MENU here. Only from my point of view, the meat was a little bit overcooked.
Good food and atmosphere. Great service and tasty food. Very dark and no real lighting.
We tried Spice Temple on NYE and totally loved the experience and food! The NYE banquet was absolutely delicious and perfectly curated with authentic Chinese flavours from different regions! Each course was so flavourful and unique, my favourites were the scotch fillet cooked in kampot pepper & curry leaves - the meat just melts in your mouth and bursts with flavour. The tea smoked chicken with black vinegar reminded me of my Shanghainese heritage with authentic sweet & sourness - it was delicious! The service was fantastic, staff were so attentive & checked in with us all the time. We would definitely come back!
Loved my evening at Spice!! Alex was such and incredible host. He was knowledgeable and very kind with everyone at our table. Can t wait to be back, hot numbing beef is my favourite!!
Nice atmosphere and space underground. The banquet and service is great. But i dont like the manderine ginger granita.
An all time favourite.. My cousins and I attended on 21st Jan 2023. As per usual, the experience exceeded expectations. We got the Cucumber with Garlic and Mint Pickles, the perfect refresher between courses. The pickles were so fresh and lovely. The Raw Yellowfin Tuna, not my first time eating it, and it did not disappoint! The pieces of tuna were the perfect size allowing for not only a full flavour experience but also a very textural experience. Lamb and Cumin Pancake, a mouthful of deliciousness. The Prawn toast, again so flavourful! The Prawn Wontons were the perfect little flavour burst. Eggplant with 3 flavours.. well!! What a pleasant surprise this one was. Eggplant cooked to just the right texture, and the flavours! Woo! We finished our meal with Pippis in XO sauce with crunchy noodle. We were so excited to see this back on the menu! And it was worth the wait! Totally delicious!! All dishes were perfect and just so delicious to eat. As per usual the waitstaff and atmosphere were fabulous. We visit Spice temple at least a few times a year for special occasions and cannot fault this amazing restaurant. Parking: Wilson parking within short walking distance
Very disappointing experience. Average food, service non existent and overpriced. This Spice Temple was at the Crown in Melbourne not in Sydney.
One of the top restaurants weve been in Sydney. The food is amazing and the service is exceptional with friendly and happy staff.
Awesome food, friendly staff, phenominal atmosphere. A must place to go for an occasion!
Great vibes Great Music Great Service But unfortunately the food was terrible
Good service but food was really below average 5/10. Entrees were okay but it progressively got worse. We had the Valentines Day Menu and 2/4 dishes we were served for the main course was so salty (and we eat quite salty food at home) we could not eat it and had it taken away. It was a pork belly with garlic chive and the lamb skewer one. We also found a bug in my lettuce that came with the lamb skewer so we asked to have the bug removed. The service was great though so cant complain there. They came to apologise when the mains were taking forever to come out and also took off the price of the lamb skewer from our total bill as they found a bug in it. Not sure if I would give them another go given the food was quite disappointing for fine dining.
We did a group booking and therefore we had to order banquet menu during my last visit at Spice Temple. Service was fantastic and food was reasonable.
One of my favourites. It s all crazy tasty. Get the Szechuan pepper dishes and be sure to finish on the peanut and chocolate parfait at the end.
I have been so many times since it was open my favourite food is strange flavour chicken so yummy chicken so soft and love aroma and texture of the dish it go well together love it .Try Yellowfin Tuna is so nice and refreshing.Must come to try every menu that why always keep coming back .Love it
Great food, and very friendly staff. I will definitely be back.
Went here on a date night with my husband. Kind of like going to another world. Interesting experience. Food was SPICY and yum. Waitstaff kind and attentive. Ambience 10/ 10
As big Spice Temple regulars since night 2 after opening 14 years ago we dont need convincing. Ava & Jessica gave cheerful excellent service at our table and for use of the service lift. Other staff were just as attentive for menu adjustments etc. Having done Fat Duck etc, I noted that your well trained staff were the fastest moving , yet unobtrusive. All in all, a marvellous night for Three punters.
Im so amazed with this place and can highly reccomend! From the moment I entered the restaurant I was greeted by lovely people. They also had heaps of allergy friendly food on the menu which I appreciated. The man who helped me was so kind and serviceminded, very informative and took his time to give me some reccomendations. The food was also super good! Will definetly be back.
VERY, VERY SPICY! After a short tour of the shops and a quick aperitif, a very spicy dinner in Circular Quay, the Sydney neighborhood particularly aimed at tourism and nightlife. Neighborhood, overlooking the Opera House and Harbor Bridge, from which ferries and cruise ships depart for the major locations in the bay and beyond. The restaurant is called Spice Temple, a place made in China. Once inside you go down a few steps to then discover a decidedly intimate, warm and welcoming atmosphere. Perfect location for a dinner for two. We start with two cocktails, a Rat (peaflower gin, falernum, lime and prosecco) and a Margarita (tequila, triple sec, lime and a pinch of salt). And then lots and lots of water. It will help...or if it will help. Yes, I know, its certainly not the best antidote to contain the spiciness, but never mind. We continue with Prawn wontons black vinegar and chilli. These are wontons, a sort of ravioli filled with steamed prawns, spiced and spicy enough and accompanied by a sauce (in a separate cup) made up of soy, rice vinegar and sesame oil. A portion consisting of four large ravioli. Very, very good. And then Pork and Prawn Spring Rolls. Six cylindrical rolls filled with pork, prawns and vegetables combined with a soy sauce. Pleasant, tasty and convincing. We decide to repeat our cocktails. Our dinner continues with two main courses. A Hot, sweet, sour and numbing pork and then the dish highly recommended both on the menu and by the staff (very kind and helpful), a Kung Pao chicken. The first consists of breaded and fried pork morsels, caramelized, decidedly spicy and with a sweet and acidic aftertaste at the same time. Good, but not very good. And now the highlight of the evening. Huge portion including very tasty chicken pieces, completely covered in whole chili peppers, cashews and Sichuan peppercorns. Very courageous choice. The chicken is very, very, very, very spicy. Im a chili lover, but this dish put me to the test. As a side dish for both dishes, a large portion of Steamed rice. Classic sautéed rice that generally replaces bread. We end with just one dessert to share. We order Chocolate & caramelised peanut parfaid. A circular chocolate semifreddo with caramelized peanuts. Very good and above all very fresh. Just what we needed... We ask for the bill. The total expense is equal to 320 Australian dollars which corresponds to approximately 200 euros. As already specified in the previous review, quality has a significant impact in Sydney. We leave the place satisfied, with our throats on fire, but satisfied. What is certain is that, had we been in Italy, a per capita expenditure of around one hundred euros would have deserved a different reasoning.
Great food. Service was very nice, until you complain about being served a 10.00 glass of water, So the front desk girl was argumentative and thought that was OK to CHARGE 10.00 FOR A GLASS OF WATER. I wont be back, maybe bring your own water and enjoy the food.
It was 5 stars all the way
Flavourful food, gorgeous cocktails and amazing staff. Wouldnt change a thing! Highly recommend it to all! Youll have an amazing night out. Try the steamed eggplant entree and the Dog cocktail.
Restaurant ambiance was worth the visit alone. Food and service were excellent
Disappointing. Eaten at spice temple many times years ago. Very disappointed this time.
Beautiful place for dinner. Food was good/OK and maybe doesnt match the pricing however the staff, atmosphere and dim lighting made the experience worth it for a one time visit.
Excellent food
Yum! Delicious food, great service & wonderful ambience. I will return & have already recommended.
We dined in on Saturday 15th of April 23. Amazing food and service. Can not fault anything. The food is melt in your mouth and so light. First time here so we got the $149 banquet and although we couldnt finish all the dishes we definitely attempted to. The Jacks Creek scotch fillet was my favourite followed by the steamed trout. I will definitely be going back but next time just ordering a few dishes so I can finish the meal. Thank you spice temple, the waiter that served us was amazing and so helpful
My partner and I had a wonderful experience spice Temple last night. The food was packed full of flavour, the staff were extremely friendly and even gifted us complementary dessert as a congratulations gift for our anniversary. A special thanks for Jack for the amazing service!!
Great service. Good food. I have been here 5 times. Probably not again. I found hairs in the rise and when I mentioned to the waiter he didn t even acknowledge. Also, we ordered the banquet. It was good, but not enough. When I try to ordering more of the menu, the kitchen was close. Definitely not worth $250 pp
Service was just okay, definitely not to the level what you are paying for. Our issue was food not worth it for the price at all. Nothing special and flavors are all similar. If you are Asian, or even to anyone, I wouldn t recommend this place.. better to find the authentic Chinese food in china town somewhere with 1/10 of price
Nice environment but awful taste
Food was bloody delicious, Get your spice on!
One of my favorite Sydney restaurants. The food is amazing and an atmosphere to match.
Please tell the customer its $75 minimum per person before we sit down and eat.
The entrance door needed a shove. Thought the place was closed at first
Maybe up the lights a bit
This is an asian fusion restaurant, the food is awesome if you are not expecting a typical Chinese food. However the selection is quite limited to cover the 75 dollar minimum spending per person especially when I am bringing my nieces and nephews who dont drink and we order a lot.
Amazing ambiance and delicious dumplings. I loved their cocktails too!
This is the place to really enjoy a wonderful dinner with your loved ones. The food on the menu are with a perfect selection of Chinese fusion dishes. Jack who was not only took time to describe the dishes in details and also ensuring our dinning experience will be enjoyable and with greatest satisfaction. In which we did. He even even gifted us complementary dessert and cocktail drink as a congratulations gift for me becoming an Australia citizen. A special thanks for Jack for the amazing service!!
Had the most amazing time at Spice Temple. Great service and food was impeccable. Can t wait to come back. Food : 5/5 |
The wait staff were absolutely amazing, both attentive and helpful. The food was also delicious, and the added cupcakes for the two birthdays of our table were a thoughtful gesture. I think, however, the music is quite loud for such a small venue, and doesn t really seem to suit the venue either. I couldn t hear some of our table s conversation over the music
Great food, friendly staff with excellent recommendations. Definitely not your typical Chinese restaurant but really know what they are doing. Food
The food was good without being excellent, very tasty but I thought that while the Kung Po looked spectacular but there was probably twice as chilli as chicken. Also the squid was covered in delicious toasted spices but again this was to the detriment of the amount of squid. Given the prices I would have thought a larger amount of protein was in order
Service was very good, food was delicious, the interior could do with a paint & update.
I love this place. If you like try the beef in fire water if available. Food
We dined her for my wife s birthday. Absolutely loved the whole experience. Food was amazing but the service was even better. Alex was very professional but also very friendly. Will definitely recommend.
Went with a friend...Ok food...overpriced for the taste. The Kung Pao chicken was disappointing and had a pungent taste that killed the fun. Entrees were better. Service was ordinary again keeping in mind the cost. Overall, better choices for the price.
Good food - nice dark basement atmosphere.
Had not been to Spice Temple in over 10 years. It has not changed. Amazing flavoursome food, friendly service and ambience. Great wine list also. Highly recommend if you are in the Sydney CBD.
Great food and service, keep it up team! Dietary restrictions: Thanks to the team for accommodation dietary requirements of some in our group! Food : 5/5 |
Booked a dinner for two for 6pm so the venue was quiet at the start then started getting busier around 7pm. The service is very good and wait staff are very attentive. The food flavours are bold, punchy and definitely spicy. Mains came out sporadically, rather than all at once. Serving sizes seem to be portioned for the table but between the two of us, we definitely had enough to eat. Particularly enjoyed the desserts and the Vietnamese ice coffee. Would come back and try the other items on the menu!
Spice temple always average compared to the prices charged. One or two dishes were nice but overall not the best. The service is great though.
This was my second visit, had dinner with my partner for my birthday. Such a great evening and venue - food and cocktails were fantastic and all wait staff were very professional and attentive. Id like to call out Hannibal, who went above and beyond to make the evening very special. I dropped some cutlery and by the time I reached down to pick it up, Hannibal had already noticed and provided me with a replacement. Exceptional service, thank you again Hannibal! Would highly recommend, I will be back!
What an absolute beautiful experience. We took our 16 & 14 year old children for a celebratory dinner on Saturday night. The food was something special. The squid was next level. Wonderful staff as well. We will be back in larger numbers. Thank you
The prices here are insanee. Spent $60 on 8 wontons and a pork entree. The pork was dry and I was still starving after.
Impeccable service, fantastic modern twist on food.
Absolutely amazing. The overall experience was wonderful and the staff were very professional. Every table was having a great time and the food was exceptional!
Food here is excellent and the staff very helpful with suggestions, but we had to wait a very long time for some of the dishes! About 45 minutes!
Amazing food , love the theme, low lit aesthetic .kung poa chicken .. fried rice is lit..cucumber entree and the white cut chicken is refreshing ..
Clueless or deliberately deceptive waiter. Neither understood what we wished to order or ignored our wishes. Avoid.
Amazing all round. Staff fantastic The food was amazing and came out really quickly for a packed out restaurant. Great place for a little romance or group event. Bathrooms could do with an upgrade. Food : 5/5
ILL BE BACK! - Arnold Schwarzenegger iconic phrase.
Food was outstanding, service was impeccable. Such a great restaurant, cant wait to go there again! Food : 5/5
The entrance to the store was very unique and felt like entering a secret base. The food was an egg omelette with chives in it, so it was fragrant and it was really delicious to eat with rice. Dumplings are a must to eat!! Really delicious! The eggplant fries were reasonably delicious, and overall, the main menu and meals featured a lot of Sichuan-style spicy food. But it was really delicious!!
Today, my family and I found the most delicious Chinese restaurant in Sydney. Every bite was happy, especially the four red pepper lobsters that kept me and my family focused on the meal without saying anything during the meal. Entree foods were great, and among them, I enjoyed duck salad the most. The service of the hall staff was also impeccable, and the kitchen led by Sehwa was truly amazing. It was the first restaurant in Sydney that paid a 30 percent tip. Ill visit again next time. Thanks to Spice Temple, my night was a fantastic one!! Kid-friendliness: Child care and menu is perfect
We love spice temple. We came for our anniversary as its one of our favourite restaurants. We always order the same dishes and they come out delicious every time! The prawn wontons, the XO noodles, the steamed fish with a side of plain rice and the sweet and sour numbing pork. The food is ten out of ten. The service is also fantastic. P.S We really miss the original chocolates they would serve when you pay for your meal. They were chocolate and mint and were delicious! You still get a complimentary chocolate but we miss the originals!
Just because its 4 stars doesnt mean it wasnt exceptionally good. This place is a very nice introduction to sichuan styles of cooking, in fact, probably the best one Ive been to. It eases you into the spices rather than smack in the face. For those with a Chinese background, do not expect the general intense hit of sichuan as that is usually not suitable for the general public. The dishes we had were the fried eggplant, salt and pepper tofu, hot and sour pork, Kungpao chicken, and the mud crab with xo sauce. The fried eggplant and salt and pepper tofu couldve been saltier, but then again, some people like it to be saltier, such as myself and others not. The OG parents stated the same as theyve had thousands of the same dish and preferred the eggplant to be a little firmer. Moving on to mudcrab with xo sauce. Killed it, hands down. I know the mudcrab is to be the star of the dish but the egg noodles that were only cooked through to about 80 percent is perfect, I love undercooked noodles with that firm texture that provides a little resistance when your teeth slices through it rather than just pulling out the white flag like most fully cooked noodles. Kungpao chicken was great, never had it with chicken pieces that big, which is a western style of cooking as in general dishes like this sometimes comes with bones in tact. Western style is more that the bones are already removed. The sichuan spices mellows nicely and lingers. Hot sweet and sour pork was definitely a favourite. It was basically what mum cooks at home often but with sichuan spices in it. The chef had the perfect adjusts for the sweet and sourness. The best part about this dish is that it had no cartridge or bones that you had to separate yourself. The spice was at a nice introductory level for those who havent experienced sichuan. I want to say that sichuan dishes sometimes get so hot that they have to put in a lot of salt and other flavours for you to taste it, and it gets very bold. What spice temple have done is balanced it nicely where the spice in general usually overpowers the flavour, but here it works in harmony without being the bully. Now the question is why is this one star short away from five. Its more to do with pricing, for Chinese standard of ordering even though it was only for three of us we tend to order on average 6 to 7 dishes, at least one that consist of vegetables. We felt the entrees were about $4-$5 too high and that the chicken and pork couldve been up to $10 cheaper or at least sitting in the $30 - $37 range. This is in comparison to all the Chinese restaurants weve been to with similar dishes. Of course we do factor in the business has spent a lot of chefs, decorations, rent and also the lovely waiting staff. Having a little cheaper price would allow more dishes to be ordered, one more wouldve been perfect. Just a personal opinion, at Chinese restaurants dishes are priced enough to be able to order multiple dishes in general and allows an easy decision for the customers to continually return weekly over the weekend to spend around $300 for a family of three or four for an outing rather than having second thoughts of coming because it had to be a special occasion. I dont remember the name of our waiter, but he was excellent, definitely tipped. In this case, there was none, but we wanted to see how a western style of cooking Chinese food compared to places like chatswood, Chinatown, cabramatta, burwood, etc. All in all, it was excellent, but I would like to revisit more often if the prices were just down a little rather than visiting because of a special occasion.
Crab was good, but the veggie and fried rice fell short of expectations. Waited over half an hour for the dishes, and they weren t served hot enough quite disappointing.
Spice Temple in Sydney, Australia, delivers an exceptional culinary journey, offering a feast for the senses. The food here is nothing short of excellent, with each dish masterfully crafted to showcase a symphony of flavours. The restaurants vibrant mix of traditional and contemporary dishes is a testament to the skilled chefs who bring each meal to life. However, its worth noting that the service, while adequate, doesnt quite match the high standards the cuisine sets. For the premium price one pays, a more attentive and personalised service would enhance the overall dining experience. In summary, Spice Temple is a gastronomic delight with its outstanding food, but the service aspect could use a bit of refinement to match its culinary excellence.
The FOH staff were excellent. Everyone one of them had a smile and seemed genuinely involved in our experience, we also felt like we had a team of people waiting on us which was great, as mentioned, we were well taken care of from the moment we walked in to the moment we walked out. The ambiance was perfect. Candles lit as walked in, music was at the right volume, lights were dimmed, but well lit over our food. Overall the dining room had a certain mystery about it! The BOH staff were on point, the food was amazing, it seemed that only the finest product was used and plated with perfection, of course the heat was noticeable with a slow creep, we were sweating when we finished up!
Spice Temple offers a nuanced exploration of regional Chinese cuisines, but my experience yielded mixed feelings. The restaurants ambiance, draped in dark and rich tones, cultivates a moody atmosphere subject to individual preferences. The menus attempt to balance various flavor profiles results in a range of dishes with differing success. However, the overall culinary journey felt somewhat inconsistent. While the service was attentive and the wine list well-curated, Spice Temple may not universally appeal, as its authenticity might not align with every palate.
Good atmosphere
I celebrated my birthday last night with my family. We ordered 3x mud crabs with different flavours (XO sauce, shallot & ginger and Blackbean). They were exceptional! We also enjoyed the other dishes. Absolutely loved the smoked duck breast. Thank you everyone at Spice Temple for such an amazing and another unforgettable experience.
Romantic setting. Generous servings. Friendly service. Great for a special occasion.
Although this was a challenge to find, the food and the service was the best. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will definitely be back.
From the moment we walked through the door, it felt like we descended into a fantasy, walking down candle lit stairs, to vibe music. The restaurant is dimly lit, and waiters promptly seated us. We ordered the mud crab in xo sauce, smoked duck, dry spicy wagyu beef, flat head in jiangxi style and the lychee dessert. Harry provided exceptional service and elevated our experience. He noted our visit was for a birthday occasion and ensured we had a memorable experience by providing a birthday cupcake and additional decadent chocolate bites. Cannot give enough stars for this experience. Thank you.
My first time there. The food is amazing. Every dish was superb. The service was also amazing. It is not a cheap meal, but it is worth it. I would definitely love to go back again.
Just wow delicious
Eaten here a few years ago pre-covid and was very impressed with their ala carte menu. However, I attended a christmas party there last week with the banquet menu and the food was nothing spectacular. Overall, we were full at the end and most dishes tasted average. The steak was the best dish , however we were very disappointed in the duck dish which had too much vinegar. Ambience and service was excellent.
So Spice Temple is reliably very, very good. The venue is fantastic & the food is delicious. Service was very good too. Food
Had an amazing time here on Saturday. The food was outstanding and the service was even better. Will be back for sure.
Food amazing! Service Amazing!
Spice temple always delivers. Friendly and knowledgeable staff coupled with amazing drinks and delicious foods creates a wholesome environment. Great for date night or even a catchup with friends. Nice touch of the zodiac drinks! Rooster is my favourite, give it a go. Highly rate the place.
I cant believe people think the service here is good.
Group booking, rubbish service.
Very tasty food and attentative service. Would definately return.
Fantastic ambience, music, service and amazing flavours .The best restaurant and experience by far. Hats off Spice Temple
Food was org**mic. Unlike most places the asians here were so nice. They accepted my Jewish faith and made sure my food was completely kosher. The waiters and waitresses were so nice and listened to my whole story of how I turned to jewishism. Love this place.
The food was great, the service was great! Authentic as well! Hannibal was great !!!
Great food but the highlight was the service! The supervisor who attended to our table really had an extensive knowledge of the menu and was so attentive! The yellowfin tuna cold cut he recommended was incredible. Thanks again Maverick. :-)
The minimum $75 per person should have been made known to us before we sat down at the table, not after we started ordering. It was not on the menu so we felt blind-sided and wondered if it was true. There was also a compulsory 5% service fee and we weren t sure why. Service was the same as most other restaurants, and tipping is an American thing, not Australian. The food itself was overpriced for what it was. The fried eggplant and tofu both were underwhelming in terms of flavour. It wasn t as spicy as the menu suggested either. It took so long to get anyones attention and also for the food took to come out, so I ended up missing my meeting. The mandarin and chocolate desserts were good. I previously loved the food here but I won t be returning due to the minimum $75 per person spend and the compulsory 5% tip.
We had a great experience on Saturday night, dumplings and fish were amazing - the waitress Maverick made the experience so much better!
Great food and great service, very allergy and coeliac aware. Our server Alma was fantastic
Great food and service. A real treat. Be aware portions are large.
Love this place , everything was awesome , the service was exceptional , be careful tho , the food is so good you may go over board , so order little by little
I ll start with saying the cocktails were AMAZING at almost $30 each. We got the premium banquet and that was really just ok. There was nothing really that was amazing. The grouper was nice. The duck was tough and everything else was nice but not for the $120/head feast. I was surprised because I know so many people love this place. My sister loved it so much last time she was there so she took me last night. She was dissatisfied too. Hopefully it was just an off night.
Food, atmosphere, service, theyve got it all down perfectly!
Very nice for special occasions
Great location and good buzz but very slow service
Great experience and great food. Very attentive waiter.
The experience starts right at the entrance - finding this hidden gem and walking down the stairs. Food was nice especially the typhoon squid, prawn toast and the fish. Kung bao chicken was way way too spicy though so be warned.
Superb dining experience
MIND BLOWING!!! We got a very last minute spot at the bar and Ada was SO kind and offered us a table. (Either way we were completely fine btw) Im a bar person and love it every time Connor The Orange is there. Thank you Connor, Jack, Benji and Ada for another amazing night at Spice Temple. Food, service, cocktails, ambience, everything and everyone is AMAZING!!!
