Laneway Dumplings is down a laneway I must have passed dozens of times without noticing - there’s even a left turn before the eatery comes into view. Evidently it’s better known to many others; the place was very busy when I did track it down. I put my meal decision in the hands of the helpful person serving me and I’d scarcely turned around when my number was called. That just left finding somewhere to sit and even that worked out well. I’d better add laneway exploration to future trips to Sydney.
The store is a hidden place in the CBD, a small side road with charm. We didn’t wait long for the dumplings. We ordered a second time because we liked them that much and the service was very fast. A good quick meal close to the CBD with a honest price
We went on a quiet afternoon and we had great dumplings hidden away from the busy road. The momos are excellent and mixed dumplings were also delicious.
Quick service, delicious dumplings and value for money. Vegetarian options are good too. Do not skip the Momo chutney, it adds so much flavour to the Momo.
Laneway Dumplings and Momo is a hidden gem in Sydney CBD, perfect for those seeking a quick, budget-friendly bite. This tiny hole-in-the-wall outlet offers a no-frills dining experience with a focus on value for money. The pork and chive dumplings are juicy, with a delightful balance of savory pork and fresh chive flavors that meld perfectly in each bite. Equally satisfying are the chicken and cabbage dumplings, where tender chicken meets the crunch of cabbage, creating a satisfying and hearty option. The dumplings are made fresh and served steaming hot, making them an excellent choice for a late-night stop or a quick snack while in the city. Plus, with beer available to complement your meal, it's easy to see why Laneway Dumplings and Momo is a popular spot for a satisfying and cost-effective meal in the heart of Sydney.
Very small location in a wet skinny alley way just as the name describes BUT food is warm and made on the spot. Good price for the amount of dumplings you get and you get it with sauces. Vegetarian options are good and delicious.
Excellent CUSTOMER SERVICE and really Great Tasting dumplings. I can see why everyone is talking about this place and you really should too. There was a fellow Aussie who bought a big family pack and he too agreed that theirs is great dumplings. We’ve traveled around Asia to know when it’s good food served with Asian friendly hospitality. Thank you I will bring my events people next time :)
It’s the alley that makes this place an awesome find. The dumplings hit the spot and at a great price. They have great ‘combo’ deals so you can try a little of everything. Definitely recommend going! Take away only service but you can eat there at the tables set up in the alley.
Really great!
Just as described, good and cheap. Nice alley.
Food was awesome and good to share
Best hidden gem of Sydney CBD. Must try Momo s!!
Fun alleyway to sit in post going out! Use all the sauces on your dumplings to really amp it up
Amazing dumpling
Great dumplings in a bustling alleyway
A tiny gem of a place, amidst the madness of the city centre. Delicious dumplings !
If you love dumplings do yourself a favour and pay this place a visit! Seriously so good!
Super cute location. Dumplings are actually gyoza size (at least the vegan ones were), so if you re after a hearty Chinese-style dumpling these were not that. I ordered pan-fried and they were barely fried, I was a little disappointed given the excellent reviews. $16 for 15 dumplings (I think!) but given how small the dumplings are it felt pricey for not a satisfying meal. Vegetarian options: One type of vegan dumpling and momo from memory. Not the yummiest I ve had!
Great dumplings place tucked away in a small but busy alley. Worth the visit. Vegetarian options: They gave vegan & vegetarian options Food : 5/5 |
Great spot. The dumplings are tasty and cheap! It s like stepping into another world just off George st. I will be back many more times.
Best dumplings!!!!!!
Good vibes! Good Dumplings, definitely worth checking out
I almost dont want to write this review because I dont want the place getting too overrun! But this place is
Good for how cheap it is. I bought 16 dumplins for $10, but they came with not as much filling. They were good though. Recommended
Good dumplings and good vibes- *just don t book a table online it doesn t mean anything*
We had ordered Himalayan Dumplings and Chicken, Cabbage Dumplings and Pork bun and it tasted bland. Not enough salt and spices and the sauce was also bland and not spicy. Really a terrible experience wont t come again.
Absolutely amazing beef, prawn dumplings and momo (Nepalese chicken dumplings). Very good value for money also. Will definitely be coming back.
Delicious dumplings. We ordered the mixed dumplings and they were all great. Super location in the heart of Sydney down a back lane off George St. We will be back.
16 piece dumplings are a bit small but great in taste
Was not expecting it to have the local and The juicy taste like straight from a restaurant around Kathmandu. Even tho the place was a bit crowded I really liked the food. The menus were dope as well. We can say it as a modern and more westernised typo momo. But modifications are good sometimes and Laneway really killed it !
Delicious
Simple little dumpling shop. Didn t get much as we just got something to eat after eating at Mensho Ramen probably getting a good bit of business from disappointed customers looking for a top up. Good looking shop and properly cooked dumplings. Good prices and beer on the side could see myself dropping in again for a quick dinner or late night bite.
Yummy and cheap! Filling :)
Best dumplings in Sydney
It has a street style vibe and the Dumplings were very affordable and delicious. The seating has a different vibe, its open seating with funky music. Recommended for the youth who love food hunting
Stumbled upon this place, last night. Down Temperance Lane, entry next to RM Williams on George St. Dumplings were good. Pork and Chive Dumplings are cheap and yum. Prawn Dumplings were absolutely delicious. Only let down was the beer taps were off, but they had bottled beer. Will be back again.
Incredible dim sum - you can tell that the wrappers are fresh and homemade!
One of the best dumpling joints around, fresh with very fair prices, great momo sauce and beer on draft too!
Vibe was awesome, loved the location and the music. Unfortunately food was below average.
If you love dumplings then you have to check this place out - they are delicious. Don t expect table service but rather a fun dining experience where there s beer on tap and they make a mean margarita. I found this place on a wet night and huddled under cover eating delicious dumplings - best find.
Tasty fresh dumplings and momo, and quick service! We ordered the vegan dumplings and momo, mixed dumplings and Himalayan dumplings. Seating is outdoor in the laneway so may not be suitable in rainy weather. Vegetarian options: Vegan dumplings and momo available.
Nice dumplings, good value.
Cool experience to try momo Nepalese dumplings. Seating can be a challenge.
Best dumplings I ever had in my life. I had the mixed dumplings, and I can highly recommend them. Full of flavour and very crunchy pan fried dumplings. Definitely a hidden gem tucked away, entrance via George St, and will come again !!!
The wife and I enjoyed those little hidden gem Had dumplings in Momos and three beers Worth a look For a quick and cheap delicious feed Food : 5/5
Great food fresh good prices Best momos in town Food
Best Momo s in Sydney, classic street food scene
delicious! I take all my friends here
Order the 16 Prawn Dumplings as well as the 12 Pork Dumplings. They were actually really good. Took a while to come out but all round a good little spot.
Warm dumplings for a decent price! Nice variety of options. Limited seating, not ideal for wet weather. Wait times a bit extensive during busy times.
These dumplings are the best dumplings I have ever had, the price point is amazing at $10 for 16 dumplings. It is an amazing hole in the wall place that deserves more recognition
Best pork and chives dumplings I have ever had
Beautiful beer and dumplings, very fair price and comfortable streetstyle dining.
Dumplings. I liked what I ate. I have to say, the Laneway really does create the mysteriousness and the hole in the wall is such a good marketing technique, I was really sold on the Asianess of the vendor. I got the Himalayan dumplings and the sauce. If you re being honest, I think you d agree, it tastes similar to the commercial stuff you can readily buy from Asian supermarkets. I got steamed ones and it doesn t reach the same level as Shanghai nights, tastes of Shanghai, all those shops in Ashfield and Burwood. Sorry, I have to call it as I see it.
Came to eat after having some horrible fried rice at Mr. Wong s. This place did not disappoint! Alleyway leading up to the restaurant is definitely a little sus but there are a few smaller restaurants here as well. Also, they serve alcohol!
Great dumplings, love the Alley location.
Incredible. 16 delicious dumplings for just 11 dollars and they also have meal deals on top of this. Cannot recommend more!
Delicious and well priced momo in a busy little laneway
So good. Fresh & tasty. Great little find
Great little spot hidden away. Good portions. Quick service.
Vegan momo and dumplings were soo good
We had the vegan dumplings that were delicious and also the 15$ promotion for dumplings, bun and can of drink. It was really good! Recommended dishes
So happy to find this hidden gem! Cheap dumplings, quick service and they taste nice. Plenty options for combo deals to try different kind of dumplings.
I love it. Theres not too many seats and its outside but the vibes make up for it!
What a great find! So cute the decoration and atmosphere and the king prawn dumplings were unreal!
Awesome Momo and dumplings. Cool setting and reasonable price. Great quick bite to enjoy with kids too
Cute back alley restaurant. Their dumplings and the the rustic vibe of the place is unmatched! Its always my top recommendation for people looking to find a reasonable priced place in the CBD
Eating in a lane. Not a real clean warm environment. The space is small, with two other food outlets nearby. It is dark with no direct sun. The food was average. The idea needs to improve.
Delicious dumplings at a great value
I cant rave enough about Momos. The dumplings are next level for what you pay. I like the pan fried dumplings the best paired with a pork bun. You can get a large meal here for less than $20 which today is fantastic value. It has a hidden gem feel to it and I find myself often going back.
Great dumplings and beers. Hidden gem. Could be warm on a hot summer day.
This is a little hidden gem. The price has increased over the past few months but the taste is still amazing. They still remain one of the best shops offering great food for a reasonable price. If you visit town hall you should definitely go for them!
Ordered the vegan momos and they came out straight away. A little smaller than what I m used to, but delicious nonetheless and the sauce was perfect and not too spicy.
Delicious!!! Just wish the service was more attentive
Awesome dumplings down a grungy alleyway lit by lanterns and fairy lights off George St. 2 vegan options - dumpling and momo and you can choose either steamed or fried. Order and pay at the counter, mix up your perfect pot of dipping sauce and grab a seat. Your ticket number will be called and you can head up and grab your delicious dumplings.
Fantastic laneway restaurant serving delicious momos and dumplings. What else is there to say??
Lives up to the hype.
Fantastic flavour and good sauces. Only feedback would be that the pan fried dumplings werent very pan fried
Delicious dumplings in an alley in the center of Sydney. Very good price quality.
Its like a hidden Asian lane! They also serve happy hour price drinks and food! Momo is so delicious.
Quirky out of the way laneway dumpling shop with some great craft beers on tap.
Great food and great price. Our food came quickly and the hidden laneway made it a very chill and fun atmosphere. Menu is scattered around and not very well lit so a little hard to read.
Great food, amazing flavour and quick service. Highly recommended.
Very special place to eat dumpling
I happened to visit this restaurant on the NYE and ordered 4 plates of momo for NY Firework. The momo was too delicious. It was a busy time, but they served within 10 minutes. The staff were friendly, and they even offered complimentary pork momo; it was special. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you are in Town Hall. I will definitely visit again.
Very tasty dumplings, away from the hustle and bustle of the city street, casual but intimate, around excellent experience
Yum!!
Nice dumplings, unfriendly service.
I cant believe how juicy our pan-fried dumplings were! The wagyu + celery and pork + chive dumps were both delicious. A great spot for our pre-dinner snack.
Delicious and great value. Coming back again Vegetarian options: They have Vegan dumps Food : 5/5 |
Really cool little place. Quick and easy. Need to know where it to find it.
Delicious!
Not too bad. A nice quiet place to eat. Unfortunately saw a rat running around the food which put me off a bit. Pork buns slapped
Cute place! The dumplings are cheap and delicious however the soy sauce I think has been watered down.. you can t even taste the it.
I had the Himalayan Dumpling, it was so good. Very flavourful taste with authenticity. Food
One of the best value, quickest, most delicious lunch spots in this part of town.
This what you called hidden gem! Best dumplings.. highly recommend!
Amazing value and really tasty dumplings! Impossible to find any other lunch in the CBD thats under $10... Nice street food atmosphere tucked away in a fairy light filled laneway. You wont find it unless your looking for it... A hidden treasure for sydney foodies! Dietary restrictions: Allergy info is on an easy to read sign at counter Wheelchair accessibility: No steps
If you want good streetfood vibe and great dumplings. Would rate/10. Better than most of the Melbourne China town dumplings
Great momos at a hole-in-the-wall type place. Have had the pork and chive dumplings and chicken and veg momos (Nepalese dumplings) Note that the chicken and veg is mainly chicken and onion Comes with a momo sauce and choice of one other sauce Well priced
Delicious and super good value for money!
2 vegan options which are both very tasty.
Sneaky good dumpling place with a wonderful atmosphere. You get a completely different vibe, apart from the usual hectic cbd, by simply walking around two unsuspecting corners near the QVB.
Best dumplings Ive ever had in Sydney, hands down. Amazing value as well! I got the mixed dumplings order and wow every dumpling was delicious. The order came with so many dumplings that I was full but yet it was all so good I almost ordered another! Definitely check this place out. The shiraz they had was a great pairing too.
Great selections of dumplings and momos. Very friendly service. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian and vegan options are available Wheelchair accessibility: Narrow laneway but okay wheelchair access
Great Dumplings
Great dumpling in a very cool location, only problem was limited seating choices so we took it back to the office.
Great dumplings especially liked the lamb ones. $15 for a large serve with a free sauce. Cute atmosphere of tables lanterns and outdoor heaters, laneway hard to spot but between escape rooms and RM Williams. Go past the Spanish place and turn left this place is at the end.
It is a cozy place to pass by or have a nice moment with.
Hidden gem of Sydney!
Nice hidden gem! $16 for a 16 pack
The best dumplings ever and I ve been to china and Japan
A lane full of Nepalese food. Massive variety to choose from. Tucked away nicely right next to the Apple store in CBD.
Good dumplings, very nice vibe
Love this place. Dumplings are sooogood!
Love the vegan dumplings and mainly eco friendly packaging for a very affordable price . Very Cute location too! doesn t feel like you re in the middle of the city Vegetarian options: they have vegan momos and vegan dumplings
Loved the vibe of the space and the Momo s were tasty & juicy! Cozy little place tucked behind George st.
Super cheap food, nothing spectacular but amazing value for money
Delicious.
Best dumpling i have ever had. The coffee was exceptional and overall experience 10/10. They should franchise to Melbourne!
I found a hair in my food
Great dumplings!
Cute little hidden back alley nosh eatery. Tried the mixed dumplings & the Himalayan dumplings. The Himalayan were incredible & the sauce was great too. Depth of flavor. Great find! Thanks!
Interesting little joint hidden away in an alley
WHAT I LIKE HERE => Well, Food is moderate. It s neither good nor bad. Taste bud differences . I felt Alo achar got a little bit extra Turmeric. Availability of Chicken Sausage. WHAT I DON T LIKE => Taste little odd with Masala Tea. Not enough sour with Jhol Mo:Mo s Jhol. Chicken Sausage is little cooled down, not seemed freshly fried. Anyway, Portion is not enough with Khaja set. Waiting time is average but Bins are nearby space. Pretty small ambience due to alleyways. Vegetarian options: Mixed up options so, its not 100% Veg but they will help seperate only veg for you. Wheelchair accessibility: Its easy accessible alleyways.
Delicious dumplings, many of them, double-take inducing price. A fantastic option
Cool little eatery hidden away behind George St. Lots of atmosphere and great dumplings. Recommend they change from styrofoam to recycled paper boxes. Otherwise all good!
Beautiful dumplings, sadly when we returned the following Sunday we were to late as the hours havent been updated on the business listing. They close at 8 on Sundays not 9
Dumplings are delicious and the prices are good with a couple of bottles Asahi beers
Tucked in a laneway in the heart of Sydney CBD, this gem is a cosy & nice casual place to hang for good dumplings & dirt cheap cocktail ($12.99!). Generous serving, dumplings start from from $9.99 for 16pcs delicious dumplings, i d definitely be back. Unfortunately they close at 10pm, imagine if they stay open until late, definitely will be back!
Adorable alleyway fitted into a chill, affordable dining and drinking experience, especially for in the city.
When you walk up a back alley to find a queue of people trying to order.. you have high expectations. You know they only know Laneway is there because it was recommended to them. The food is indeed worth recommending.
You will be welcomed by the warm smiles of the best dumpling makers in the city. <3
I got the value deal with 16 dumplings, a pork bun and a Fanta. And I must say this is too good of deal. It s affordable, it slaps and the place is lowkey and a vibe. Definitely recommended for a budget night out fr
Amazing little treasure tucked in an unsuspecting alley. They do dumplings and they do them incredibly well - the vegan and prawn dumplings were immaculate. Not pictured: the dumplings and chilli sauce we absolutely wolfed down before we realised we didnt take a pic. Food
Great dumplings hidden away from the world.
Might have found my new favourite dumpling place in Sydney! Amazing 16x pack with mixed flavours at a good price, and very friendly staff. Will certainly be back often :)
Good quality dumplings for the price. Got a mix of vegetable and chicken pan fried dumplings which were very tasty and flavory. Would recommend the chicken! Food : 4/5
The dumplings were juicy but felt overrated as compared to the reviews. I tried a combination of Chicken, lamb and prawn dumplings
It is located in this small alleyways. It can be bit crowded during lunch hours. But it is worth a waiting time. We had chicken sausages and 16 pieces mixed dumplings. Pork dumplings didnt taste good otherwise it was perfect. Sauce provided with momo were on point. There are also options for vegetarian like veg momo and veg chowmein. 5/5 Highly recommend to have a taste of freshly cooked Nepalese dumplings (momo)
It just one of the tiktok hype spot, the food was not so great .
Fantastic dumplings
This place is great! Ordered a mixed plate of dumplings and they did not disappoint. Fresh, tasty and affordable. What more could you want? Highly recommend this place for a quick dinner/lunch or snack.
Amazing! The beer, the dumplings and the atmosphere were all faultless. Would come back in a heartbeat
Laneway dumplings... Delivers what it promises to the highest calibre
This dumpling place is a must-visit! The dumplings are delicious, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is inviting. Dont miss out!
Absolutely divine dumplings! Each bite bursts with flavor, a symphony of taste in every delicate parcel. A must-visit culinary treasure hidden in a corner of a city.
Its a small shop in an alley. It has a great atmosphere and the main point is that its very cheap. However, the dumplings are a bit thick but the taste is good.
Delish, quick and easy. I love this place!!!!
Tried chicken dumplings, great texture and very juicy. Fells great in the tummy even after 16 dumplings. BEST DUMPLINGS IN SYDNYE UNDOUBTEDLY
Perfect hidden spot for some lunchtime dumplings. Try the pork and chive.
Delicious. Really wanted to try the Wagyu beef dumplings, but unfortunately they didn t have any left. The pork dumplings were probably our favourite. Really cute laneway to get out of the hustle and bustle and just relax for a little while. Good service and relatively fast. Would recommend
Good food and great atmosphere
Really really good! Has been the same price even throughout inflation and always kept the same quality. Built up their out seating area and very comfortable in all weather. A nice whole in the wall place to eat, I recommend!
This place is absolutely amazing!! I dont know how they do it but the food is amazing and the prices are really friendly! The guy who helped us was very nice and helped us choose what we wanted. I highly recommend it. I would definitely comeback thank you staff!!
Really puts the street in street food. Chicken/cabbage dumplings were excellent, filling, and a good value for $10.99 (gone up a dollar since the menu was posted). Ill definitely come back! Vegetarian options: They have several vegetarian options that are equally yummy. Parking: Its literally at the end of the alley and you turn left...there is no parking. I recommend using the light rail or Doordash. Wheelchair accessibility: You can definitely wheel down the alley to the order stand, and there is plenty of space to navigate the tables.
I had the vegan dumplings, fried. Really tasty! Theyve got a slightly oily feel which I like. The vegan ones have some kind of fake pork mince in them. Theyre a little small so I recommend getting the 16 pack if youre hungry. Vegetarian options: The vegan dumplings have mince made of soy protein, and green onion. Theyre nice!
Delicious and affordable.
Excellent tasting dumplings and great service. Good and interesting range of sauces for dumplings. Great time trying some new dumpling flavours for first time.
A nice hole in the wall type place, with above average dumplings. Not great for friendly hang outs or planned bookings. You will need to sort your own makeshift table all while being dripped on by laneway aircon units. Food did come fast though. Vegetarian options: Vegan dumplings were good.
Laneway momo earns a well-deserved five-star rating for its exceptional momo dish. The inviting ambiance and attentive service set the stage for a culinary delight. The momos are a masterpiece, featuring perfectly crafted dough, flavorful fillings, and impressive presentation. The menu variety and reasonable pricing further contribute to a highly satisfying dining experience, making Laneway momo a must-visit for momo enthusiasts.
Really enjoyed the Himalayan dumpling - the sauce was so good! Not sure how I feel about the laneway concept as people walked past with garbage and the table didn t feel very clean. However, it was a unique experience and they really jazzed the place up with lights and music.
