17-19 Alberta St, Sydney NSW 2000, Australia
Warm, buzzy trattoria offering modern Italian cuisine along with an extensive wine list.
Hidden gem! Hidden in a Surry Hills back Lane is the wonderful Alberto's lounge. Small and intimate, we sat at the bar and were served beautiful dishes of Italian food and glasses of wine. Staff were great, attentive enough without being overbearing. Martinis to finish were very much on point. Highly suggest you go there but let's keep it our little secret
Our go-to for special occasions & dates. It’s a bit pricey, but the dark and intimate vibe makes it worth it. The servers are lovely and have great recommendations - last time she suggested an off-menu pasta dish for me, as a vegetarian, and it was absolutely delicious. Super cosy, great atmosphere and food. One of our absolute favourites.
The menu has changed, and the portions are now much smaller, making it less value for money. We spent an average of $76 per person, but no one left feeling full, even after ordering a focaccia as an appetizer. The ambiance remains as it was—dimly lit and atmospheric, which suits drinking more than dining. Unfortunately, it’s no longer a great choice for a meal, though it might still be a good spot for drinks.
We were lucky to get a table without booking when we visited Sydney last week. The staff were really nice when we asked for recommendations and made us feel really comfortable as foreigners. We ordered the linguine el nero (our favourite), conchiglie, bufala and focaccia! Really enjoyed the squid ink pasta 😊
Alberto's Lounge provides a cozy and intimate dining atmosphere, though it can feel a bit cramped at times. I even spilled a glass of wine, which was a first for me—apologies to the staff! The food was absolutely delicious, despite the smaller menu, and the extensive wine list included some of my favourite Italian wines. Overall, it was a delightful dining experience in a charming and warm setting.
Came here for dinner and we loved it. The ambience was giving off squishy squashy but dark and intimate vibes. It’s a loud restaurant as you’re sat close to others tables but at the same time feels private because of the hustle and bustle and mood lighting, you disappear amongst the fast pace and busy-ness of things - if that makes sense. Service was friendly and attentive. The food was gorgeous to my tastebuds! Pastas perfect! Entrees were amazing and cocktails delicious. As others have mentioned portion sizes do run a bit small but we were absolutely satisfied when we left. The only small suggestion is they need to get some strong oil diffuser/incense/air freshener or anything for their bathrooms. The bathrooms were physically well maintained and quite nicely decorated but the smell slapped my face as I entered and woke me up from my happy and slightly tipsy daze.
Booked this after seeing on TikTok. Portions may be on the smaller end but we left filling full and with a very full heart as well because the staff were so kind. Our server was very friendly and efficient but we forgot to get her name 🥲Only comment is wished they didn’t ask about the birthday celebration at the start as we intended for it to be a surprise. Food wise, we followed what other reviewers recommended. Loved the sausage with fennel, rigatoni, focaccia (olive oil with this is a must!) desserts wise we got the donuts and it paired so nicely with the hazelnut gelato. Drinks were good too with wide selection
Nice vibe & lovely service. I really enjoyed the food & drinks here. The burrata was the the best 👍! Perfect with their warm focaccia. The prosciutto platter was really good. And my oh my, the pasta were super 😍, both the Spaghetti Sorrentina (off the menu, recommended by our waitress) & Linguine al nero!! Booking is a must as they’re a small restaurant.
Service was good, atmosphere was a bit crammed but nice if you re only a couple of people. Food was very underwhelming, a lot of hype around this place but it was really average. Especially the cotoletta which had so much salt on it that it was painful to eat.
Incredible food, awesome vibe but most of all incredible service! Our server (I think her name was Eleonora) was so helpful and friendly. She made our night super fun. We can t wait to return.
Intimate dining setting perfect for night out catching with friends over good food! Our table really enjoyed Albertos and highly recommend the focaccia, tuna crudo, duck ragu, zucchini salad and tiramisu!
We went for a quick dinner before the theatre. Great service. The food was great. The service excellent. The staff really knew and understood the wine list helping us make good choices. A bit off the beaten track but well worth finding.
Albertos Lounge is a hidden gem with exceptional food and a cozy vibe. We started with the Pork Tonnato, which was a perfect balance of tender pork and creamy tuna sauce. The Beef Shin Pappardelle stole the show rich, savory, and perfectly paired with wide, delicate pappardelle. The Zucchini Salad offered a refreshing contrast, and the Meatballs and Polenta were comforting, with juicy meatballs and creamy polenta in a delicious tomato sauce. Great service, creative dishes, and an inviting atmosphere. Highly recommended!
Zero stars to me because I only had space in my tummy for half a serve of the tuna crudo. Starving myself the next time I visit so I can have all the tuna crudo I can fit in my belly. Also a big thank you to Jemima she had the most gorgeous energy.
A very nice and cosy place, a little bit hidden away in Surry Hills. The staff is very friendly, customer focused, approachable, and professional. They are very well versed with the menue and drinks on offer and a good source of information when it comes to the right drink with the right food selection. The food was fresh, tasty and well presented. In all, it was a very delightful experience. Definitively worthwhile another repeat visit.
Went here for a birthday celebration with the family. Bit of a change of pace for us with our style of dining, but we were thrilled with our experience. Beautiful venue, attentive and knowledgeable staff and delicious food. Even got to try some unusual style wines that definitely hit the spot. Will be back soon!
The maiale tonnato!!! Amazing food! Amazing service! Thanks Jemima!
Perfect ambience, perfect food and the best service we have enjoyed in a long time. Staff were attentive, knowledgeable and hospitality professionals. Thank you for an exceptional experience! Highly recommend Alberto s for date nights or small intimate gatherings.
Very satisfied with the food, serive and mood. One of the best is Sydneys CBD.
On the very special occasion of my glamorous sister visiting Sydney all the way from Geneva Switzerland, we wanted a local Italian restaurant to refuel at after an eventful day capped off with deep tissue massages (we were zonked!). Albertos was closest so we chanced it - and what a find! We thanked our lucky stars there was space for us in this hidden away but popular gem, nestled in alleyways off Oxford St. We circled the buildings whole perimeter before finding (with help from a resident) the tiny entrance we missed at first. The wine and food were absolutely gorgeous and the staff were so friendly. The atmosphere was super cool and my sister was thoroughly impressed - which says a lot cause she knows glam! Thank you Albertos team for a lovely dinner with fam!
Amazing food, amazing atmosphere. Our waitress (Sachi) was so knowledgeable and kind! I would 100% recommend!
Not bad
Had a fabulous Saturday night dinner. Loved the ambience and decor. We enjoyed the raw tuna, mozzarella and proscuitto, the Murray cod, pork cotoletta and the zucchini side dish. This was accompanied by a divine Sangiovese from Tuscany. For dessert we ordered the tiramisu which was amazing with a montenegro. Friendly and attentive service.A little hidden gem tucked away in the heart of the city.
Alberto offers a good variety of food options but their service is top notch. Highly recommend for a date night.
Alberto s Lounge shines with its warm, welcoming atmosphere and lovely staff who radiate good vibes. The exceptional food is perfectly complemented by a well-curated playlist, making it a spot that s as enjoyable for the ambiance as it is for the dining experience.
Just before we wrapped up, the staff started to clean the kitchen and as expected it had a massive foul smell. As the kitchen is exposed and on the way to the bathroom, it was a bit too much to handle. Hence a low ambience rating. Otherwise it was fantastic.
Always a winner!! 11/10!
Tiny trattoria with a big heart. Warm friendly and delicious.
A bit crammed and table for two is super tight but a great night. Good food, service and ambience.
Do not understand the hype. Have wanted to try for some time and was very disappointed. Cocktail (passionfruit gimlet) was a lovely kick off but all down hill from there. The tables are tiny and you cant move them - trying to get out from the table was very awkward. Mozzarella and prosciutto starter was average. Meatballs were terrible - like rubber and very over done. Tasted like reheated meatloaf. Beef ragu was disgusting. The meat was tough and fatty (which is bizarre with a slow cooked dish) and had a strange distinct after taste - almost like the fat had not been drained from the beef before it was slow cooked. The flavour was almost brine like. The wine list looked great but when asking for a recommendation I was told Sangiovese, like Pinot noir - everything is just same same . Very strange. Staff did apologise but will not be back. A strange, overpriced and disappointing experience. That being said the place was packed so perhaps we were just unlucky With our choices.
Italian restaurant, quite hidden and full of surprises. The place is very cozy, the menu although not very extensive, everything is very appetizing. I ordered the Buffalo with ham and the Tagliatelle with meat. Everything is very good. The treatment by the staff is very correct and they are very friendly. It is recommended to go 100%.
I loved Albertos. I was on my own for the night and sat at the bar. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The place hada great vibe and atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious, I thoroughly enjoyed every bite of my pasta and every sip from the negroni on arrival to the glass of sangiovese and finished off with an introduction into amaro which was a brilliant end to the meal
Food was decent, good wine list. There is a beautiful Sicilian white that was extremely aromatic. Restaurant is small and the tables are extremely close to eachother. $280 for two, we had a lot to drink.
Nice atmosphere, simple and delicious food, good selection of wine
Always a pleasure to visit! The food is incredible, the pappardelle ragu is a must in the menu.
I had the pleasure of dining at Alberto s Lounge, and it was truly one of the best Italian meals I ve ever had. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere transported us straight to Italy, with its charming décor and warm, welcoming ambiance. The menu is a true celebration of Italian cuisine, offering a wide range of classic dishes and creative specialties. I ordered the seafood pasta and was blown away by the authenticity of the flavours. The pasta was perfectly cooked, the sauce rich and flavourful. The wine list is extensive and thoughtfully curated, with excellent pairings for each dish. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and made fantastic suggestions for both food and wine. The service was impeccable friendly, attentive, and perfectly timed. Whether you re craving classic Italian favorites or looking for something unique, Alberto s delivers an exceptional dining experience. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic Italian cuisine in a warm and inviting setting. I can t wait to come back and try more dishes!
The food is clean and delicious. The vintage interior is also cool. Its nice, but its too dark. So it seems to go better with wine.
The food is no doubt delicious! We had the burrata with prosciutto and duck ragu. The burrata and prosciutto were fresh and we like it that they have the breadstick which is quite fun to eat. The duck ragu is great too, its not strongly flavored but still quite savory and felt pretty light. Portion is just nice for us. However, the place felt too cramped for us. The distance between tables are too close to each other to make us feel comfortable. And the light is too dim to dine in our opinion. Maybe its their style but its not really suitable for us.
Great date night spot. Quite intimate. Food was also fantastic, with good vegetarian and gluten free options. My only issue was with the lighting in the bathrooms. Very dark and felt a little unsafe (as a woman). Other than that, its an awesome dining spot.
One of the best Italian restaurants in town
The food was great overall great service and the Negroni was on point. Was a bit squashy with tables very close to each other and very limited space to move around the only negative. Food : 4/5
Such an enjoyable night with my wife of 40 years. Superb way to celebrate a special night
Atmosphere is the best part bout this place, lovely ambiance and cosy feel. The food was average at best, solid Italian food but nothing stood out to me and the flavour were quite basic. The restaurant setting and atmosphere didn t match the quality of food. Expensive food for an average taste!
This place is amazing! Just love the food, the atmosphere and the staff are so wonderful. Thank you!
Great place. Great food. Great atmosphere. Supper awesome service and staff. Will most definitely be back again and again. Thanks heaps for representing your industry in the correct and best way possible.
Come here regularly. Fantastic place. Atmosphere, food and service all equally great. Tried the new menu last night. Delicious!! Must visit if you come to Sydney.
Various debuffs led to a bad impression of this meal in Sydney... The taste is really average. I don t understand why so many people recommend it. Maybe Australia is indeed a food desert with nothing delicious to eat. The food was served very slowly, and the cuttlefish noodles had to wait until they collapsed. The taste was not worth the wait. Bad weather + long wait + mediocre taste and expensive price = a bad experience.
One of my favourite restaurants to visit with my husband. We try dine here whenever we can because the service and the food just cannot be beaten. We love getting the T-bone steak with garlic which sometimes isn t on the menu but the staff are so attentive, and are happy to prepare it for us whenever we visit. Everything on the menu is a must try, highly recommend for a date night.
Very cosy and intimate ( tight squeeze) and you certainly get to know your neighbours. Good food, but the table is very small to fit many plates on. Bit $$$$ for proportion sizes. Welcoming staff. Overall a pleasant evening.
Celebrated our anniversary at this absolute hidden gem!!! Hidden away in a side laneway....perfect. Highly recommended...felt like Europe. Great food, atmosphere, wine selection. Just awesome
I saw this restaurant introduced by several people on YouTube, so I made a reservation in advance because I definitely wanted to go there. The interior of the restaurant has a retro atmosphere with a nice atmosphere, and the staff kindly explained the menu to us and the food was delicious. It was a restaurant that I was glad I went to on my trip to Sydney. I want to come again!
We were in the city foe a concert and decided to go for dinner, do i googled restaurants near me and found Alberto s lounge. Well we were very pleasantly surprised. We waited about 40 minutes to get a table and the staff were very nice and friendly. Every single dish we ordered (5 dishes) was great. The atmosphere was beautiful.
Had my anniversary there. The staff couldn t be more friendly and welcoming. The food was great and the atmosphere there was fantastic. Can t wait to go there again.
Food delicious, service helpful and prompt. Highly recommended.
I heard about this place a few years back and had never made the effort to go. A friend of mine suggested this place and I have to say it did not disappoint. Warm ambient environment, fantastic service, and food I have thought about a number of times since a few nights ago. One of Sydney s best kept secrets.
Excellent
Very good Sydney Italian experience but if you know your Italian, don t expect this to be extraordinary. Food was very good quality, pasta was fresh and cooked good (not quite al dente but close enough), and the plates with main ingredients such as meat and seafood are good quality (though portions are incredibly modest for this price range). We went for my partners birthday, so we went all out. Nice experience but not extraordinary, keep in mind we lived in NYC and have visited Italy a few times. It s a nice Italian restaurant catered for a Sydney palate. Don t know if that is what they are aiming for but if they are, then great.
Impeccable service, even better food, really went the extra mile for a special occasion. Highly recommend!
Great Atmosphere but the food menu was very minimal, extreme lack of meat options, the so called seafood pasta only had two very small prawns in the $40 dish. Very surprised they could not produce a basic cosmopolitain when they have such a fully stocked cocktail bar
Delicious pasta. The menu is small, but every dish was outstanding. All of the pasta dishes were unique and simply well done. Love
Love the king prawn linguini.
Starters were great specially the spiced pork sausage with green lentils. We ordered fish and lamb shoulders for mains which were quite underwhelming. Their sister establishment Restaurant Hubert does a great job from starters to dessert both from a quality and price/ portion POV. The service at Alberto s was excellent though.
Food was good although small, service was decent and the atmosphere is very swanky, price is reasonable. However, the tables are too small & close together. We were seated next to a toddler which was very distracting. We came here for a romantic date and allowing children into the restaurant took away from the whole experience. My advice to management - either get bigger tables with more space, make the vibe/atmosphere more family friendly or do not allow kids under the age of 16
The Linguine Al Nero and Burrata were particularly my favorite, good ambiance and friendly service. Even the portions are very small for the price, the taste and quality just compensated it all.
Atmosphere: buzzy, lively and cozy. Food: We had the most divine sage fritters and steak (800grams - for two)) covered in garlic and delicious. Service: Our waiter was busy - so few gaps in service that could be improved - but very nice welcoming chap. One of the nicest places we have went to in Sydney (in 30 years).
Tucked away in a nice little spot. Fantastic atmosphere. Perfect date night.
All time favourite. Visit often. Enjoy always.
Food never fails to impress! Love the pasta! Didn t take photos of the other dishes because I couldn t resist digging in almost straight away
Foods were tasty and very cosy atmosphere ! The service was great too.
Amazing Dinner thanks to Jemima and this team
Had dinner here tonight and it was delicious. It was quite busy for a Wednesday night. The ambience is dark and moody with candles on the table. Loved the decor. The restaurant itself is very small so the dining tables are very close together and you can hear other people s conversations if they are loud. The service was super attentive. We shared dishes so they changed our plates and serving cutlery between entree and mains whilst also wiping the table clean in between. Burrata was a highlight with the sweet flavour and crunchy texture combinations along with the focaccia bread! The rigatoni was perfectly al dente. Also ordered the fusili goat pasta, the goat was unexpectedly SO SOFT! Only down side is the pasta portions were very small especially for the price point.
Went with a group booking $89 pp. Food was very tasty but servings way to small as had to share between 3 people each dish ( 12 people total) Pasta dishes x 2 Burrata, tuna dish which was slices of thin small tuna 2 per person, a leaf salad, sorbet for desert. Only meat dish was lamb shoulder which had minimal meat for 3 people. So all in all $178 per couple and still feeling very empty I definitely not recommend. Buy off the menu and get what you want for a fraction of the price. Great service too.
The food was avarge so was the selection of wines...many wines doesnt mean good wine. Rather expensive but the atmosphere was great
very first speakeasy we found in the city. this place is what started our obsession with speakeasy. just found it on google maps, n got confused where maps was taking us, then we found the entrance and thought it was the backdoor at first, very hard to miss LOL. the food was GREAT, honestly i d come back 10x despite the price. cocktails were sooo good too. this is the most perfect place i m not even joking. simply walking in the vibes n lighting were so nice. i wanna go on a date here next time fr but im single so..
Everything was on point. Food, service, wine recommendation and vibe! Went on a Monday night which felt like a Saturday night. Foccacia, burrata, pastas and lamb all hit the spot.
Stunning all round: awesome food, service and amazing vibe. PLUS the staff are genuinely happy. Happy doing their jobs and clearly happy with each other, like theyre friends - maybe they are!
The best restaurant for first date
Great food, great service! Enjoyed every single dish. Service was amazing and cannot fault a thing. Will be back for sure.
Excellent service from the whole team. Every one of the staff was so lovely and attentive. I want to make special note of Jemima as she was so lovely with us and other customers. It could really be seen through the level of service from the whole team. All round, great time!
Absolutely unreal! The tuna is incredible and never fails! I ve been multiple times and they are never lacking. One of my favourites in Sydney! *photos are from separate seatings*
Service and atmosphere were both brilliant. Food was delicious (especially the burrata and the linguine). But for $130 pp the Grande Banchetto portions felt a bit stingy and it overshadowed the yumminess. 2 plates of burrata between 8 of us, 3 pieces of rigatoni per person, it was just all a bit small. We actually ended up having a snack somewhere else after our meal which is disappointing when the bill came to $500 per couple.
Food was fantastic in a cool little lounge bar The texture and combination of flavours was spot on Food
loved my birthday dinner at albertos lounge, great atmosphere, fun staff and amazing food and vino!
Delightful. Food was delicious, service great and wonderful cozy atmosphere.
Just what a great place, great staff, great food, and sexy atmosphere
Wonderful evening at Alberto s, the food and service were ten out of ten!
Walking into Albertos Lounge theres an immediate ambiance with the music and moody lighting. We were immediately met by the host who took her time asking us about our night and any special occasions before guiding us to our table. As someone whos gluten intolerant I was worried I wouldnt be able to enjoy many of the dishes on the menu, but was pleasantly surprised almost everything could be made gluten free! We asked our server about what dishes shed recommend and went with the Tonno (seared tuna), (Cotechino) spiced sausage with lentils, Fusili con brasato di capra (slow braised goat pasta), and a side of rainbow chard. We opted for a sangiovese to pair with our food which went beautifully. Our favourite dish of the night was the Cotechino which was so unique, and the perfect dish to have on a cold rainy night. A great date night spot and looking forward to the next visit. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free friendly (including gluten free pasta)
Not cheap but very high quality food with professional service.
on google maps it said it closed at 00, I arrived at 10:50pm and they said they were closed
The place is definitely overpriced and overhyped. The food was mediocre to my taste, very small menu that is not innovative by any means. Entrées were serviceable, but it s hard to be excited by a burata salad or cold meat plate. The pastas were bad: we had the goat pasta and the meat was too chewy and unpleasant, with bits of fat that were not edible. The prawn pasta was very basic in flavour, cherry tomatoes were in that weird limbo state where they re not raw but not quite cooked enough. Gelato was also absolutely mediocre at best, reminded me of the pallet cleanser gelatos they give you in Italy for free. The cocktails were nice, especially the passionfruit gimlet. The service was bad, waiter seemed annoyed and reminded us that we only had a 2-hour booking on 6 occasions, including on arrival and before we ordered first drinks. The place is probably too cramped, especially in winter when people have jackets and coats.
Fab food, atmosphere and overall experience. Service was impeccable and attentive. Beverage list kept on coming too. Cod is a must try!! Highly recommend (service staff also nice to look at)
Overpriced, and serving gelato in one dish for numerous people with individual Spoons and expect you to share the gelato with people at your table with all the flu and Covid cases around. So much for food hygiene
It was a wonderful shop
All who attended our group dinner enjoyed the food, wine and ambience. Two of our group were delighted at the wine and food that claimed it made them feel right at home. I believe well be arranging a larger group in the near future. Thanks again. Dietary restrictions: Halal
We had a top night out. Really interesting dishes, decent wine list. attentive staff and a buzzing atmosphere - the malt shelf also revealed some interesting and usual options to complete the night.
Ultimate vibes, great location for a date, gathering with friends or a fun time with family. Cant think of a dish that wasnt good! Also the toilet is very interesting as you can see in the photos, very unique indeed~
The burrata and pasta are delicious. The cotechino is slightly salty, but it pairs perfectly with lentils. The cocktail is lacking a bit.
Such a lovely experience! Food was delightful as per. The young gentlemen with the tats and hoop earrings provided us such a warm and lovely service, unfortunately we spent all of our cash so couldn t give him a tip so we are leaving this review to highlight his impressive customer service! 5 stars sir appreciate you xx
Great atmosphere in a hidden gem of a place. Service/staff great....ambience very good. Food up there in quality for sure....well worth a visit.
The food was mediocre at best, very dry lamb shoulder. The tuna tataki was overpowered with olive oil. Extremely rude bar staff who made us feel unwelcome. Ambience was nice but the rest was lacking
Amazing food and staff are super friendly, love the chill vibe here
The food was outstanding. Cool vibe too, a bit like a gastro pub but more fancy. Service was also good. The kitchen was open pretty late for Australian standards (after 10pm). By the way, the entrance is really easy to miss. Its a small opening.
Its so dark inside that you cant see anything, but the atmosphere is the best, the taste is the best, the friendliness is the best~ I had Tonno (tuna tataki), linguine, and rigatoni, and they were all delicious. Especially the linguine, because it was my first time trying it and it was really, really delicious, so be sure to try it. However, the quantity is small compared to the expensive price. Two adult women who dont normally eat much felt that it was enough to eat three menu items, so if we want to eat to our fill, I think we should order a menu for two people.
Delicious Martini, attentive and friendly staff, and amazing focaccia. Cozy and warm with spot-on music. Thank you Lily for your wonderful service.
Could not fault anything ! The food, the staff and the atmosphere were next level. Cannot wait to return 12/10 if that s possible. Food
Loved it. Swillhouse never misses.
Superb food, friendly eccentric staff who are nevertheless very capable. Special shout out to Jemima (sp?)
Great vibe and terrific food choices. The staff are friendly and welcoming.
Amazing vibe with a top wine list! The food is consistently great every time we visit.
I recently dined at this Italian restaurant, and my experience was rather positive. The burrata was delicious, and the sausage and fennel pasta was particularly flavorful. However, I was slightly disappointed by the hazelnut gelato, which was too sweet for my taste. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the warm atmosphere of the restaurant and the friendly service from the staff. Overall, it was a pleasant evening with good Italian dishes and a welcoming ambiance.
The food was absolutely delicious & loved the vibes
The food was delicious, the service top-notch, and the prices reasonable. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a great dining experience.
Wonderful dining experience- linguine, sage leaves with anchovy and the gelato were all spectacular! The wine selection was delightful. The young lady who attended to my table in the bar was very helpful and kind. Thank you! Highly recommend.
Amazing service and simple food done very well. Pasta was spectacular! Food
Excellent
Always incredible service and food.
Highly recommend
What can I say but the very best of reviews for what is definitely my favourite Sydney restaurant. Simply oustanding food with quality service to match! A unique highlight is watching the food prep & plating-up, whilst peering through to the kitchen via a very captivating bar/ kitchen design. And lets not forget Jimmys Martini, Negroni, Craft Beer & Red Wine referral(s). Master bartender ;) Thx guys. Enjoed it immensely as always :)
Always a 5 star experience. The food, service and ambience are excellent. Highly recommend.
Great experience dining here and very friendly and welcoming staff. Food is tasteful, interesting and savory.
Nice place for a celebration or date. Good food and service, but overcrowded and a bit overrated.
food was superb. it s a cute little spot but quite hard to have a good conversation as it s a little noisy. maybe a 5th date venue not a 1st. will have to come back and try brunch!
Went here for a date night and the food, service and ambience was absolutely amazing shoutout to the waiter who handled our dinner during our seating at the bar , Sachi. She was very friendly and did an amazing job ! Would love to come back again. Foccacia bread was so good btw
ALL dishes are too too toooooooooo salty Me and my friend had stomachs ache at night . Food
Food was really good in fact exceptional, it was rather pricey but well worth it. The lighting could be better especially for the slightly older person or someone wearing spectacles. Overall really excellent.
I had an awful afternoon and was in great need of a glass of vino. The service was empathetic and exactly what i needed.
I was so excited to try Alberto s given the reviews and was left feeling the overall experience was a 3/5. I was celebrating my birthday and had a 1pm reservation for which we were on time for and at that stage the restaurant was not full. While the atmosphere was lovely and the food was good I feel I have to say it wasn t authentic Italian rather it was a distilled version of Italian food. I say this solely on the bagna cauda. While it was absolutely delicious, it did not have the punch it is supposed to have. If I didn t know what bagna cauda was I would be forgiven for thinking I had a delicate white dip of something or other with vegetables. Please note, all the food was really delicious but the portions were smaller than I expect at this price point. Also, the pasta while it was also delicious was not al dente. Overall the atmosphere and the smaller portions of food was completely let down by the service. We arrived at 1pm and left just after 3:30pm because of the time taken between courses which was unusually long. We also were advised we needed to leave by 3pm but weren t able to because at that stage we were still waiting on dessert - which came out separately even though we both ordered dessert. We also needed to follow up on the second dessert because it seemed like it had been forgotten which it had. We then had to ask for the bill twice. Thank you for the experience however I hope you can iron out some of those simple details to provide a better experience for diners moving forward.
The atmosphere is great, the food is delicious, and the staff are very friendly. But the space between the seats is so narrow that I feel like Im sitting with the people at the table next to me.
Absolutely fantastic experience. Very nice service, food and drink (I personally had a very very nice negroni).
Dined here on the recommendation of a friend and it didnt disappoint! Food & wine were both delicious, service was prompt and staff were really friendly. Would definitely dine again!
Small cosy bustling place! We recommend the lamb shoulder which just melts in your mouth and the bread entree was sooo warm and delish! The waiters here looked after us so well - our cups were never empty!
If you want delectable cocktails, mouthwatering Italian food and a moody, sultry atmosphere then Alberto s is the place to go. I will be definitely be back!
Alberto s Lounge (17-19 Alberta St, Sydney NSW 2000). Known for its charm and cozy interior, Alberto s lounge is definitely a hidden gem in the Sydney CBD . Tucked away in a quiet alleyway, beholds walls lined with art and various alcoholic beverages . I would definitely recommend Alberto s if you love good Italian food and wine! The only downside is the noise levels as everyone is seated quite close together. Ragú dAnatra alla Veneta Fusilli, duck ragu, fried sage, Reggiano ($33) This was definitely the best ragu I have tasted in my entire life . The sauce was sooo rich and creamy!! Definitely a must order as it went so well with the other dishes ordered! Tagliata dagnello Lamb rump cap, charred radicchio, roast eschalot, saba ($62) I was SO impressed by the quality and execution of this dish! The lamb was cooked to perfection and was contrasted so well with the charred radicchio! I would definitely recommend this dish as it was super filling and definitely a highlight! Gratinato Swiss brown mushroom, taleggio, pangrattato ($15) I was quite unsure of ordering this dish as I surprisingly don t enjoy eating mushrooms, HOWEVER this was an exception as it was packed with flavour and the crumbing was to absolute perfection! Minne di SantAgata - Raspberry mousse, coconut sable, chantilly ($16) By the time we got to dessert options, we were definitely stuffed with the main dishes but I would totally recommend not over ordering and making room for dessert! The dessert was a tad overpriced but was a perfect treat after such a rich meal. It was slightly tangy but is super addicting! Instagram: Eatwith.nbs
The service and the food are amazing. Everyone is super friendly, the environment is superb and the pasta was one of the best that I ever had.
Finally getting around to writing this review thats been long overdue, but totally deserved! So, a few months back, my partner and I decided to hit up Alberto s to celebrate our anniversary, and let me tell you, they went above and beyond to make our night extra special. Right from the get-go, the service was top-notch. I showed up with some flowers, and they were quick to find a safe spot for them, giving us plenty of room to dive into the delicious feast awaiting us. And let me just say, the food was absolutely divine! Their Burrata? Unbeatable. Seriously, Ive been around for a good three decades, and this is hands down the best Ive ever had. Now, pasta might seem simple, but finding one that truly wows you? Thats rare and that s exactly what Alberto s chefes will deliver. As for the service, our wine choice was unfortunately out of stock, but no worries, Darcy had some great alternatives lined up for us and he absolutely nailed it. Plus, our server Lily was an absolute gem, always sporting a huge smile and bending over backwards to make sure we had everything we needed. If you havent checked out Alberto s yet, what are you waiting for? Trust me, you wont regret it!
A hidden gem in Sydney (at least for me) even though the restaurant is quite small and crammed; it wasn t a problem at all. The music was good, the lighting was moody. A nice place to have a small group around. Wait staff are extremely good at their job, shoutout to the one that suggested me an amazing red , I loved it. I went there to try their pastas based on other reviews. But was blown away by their focaccia and olive oil. Burrata with figs was delicious too. Loved the seafood linguine. The menu was limited; it s probably seasonal? Have to try the duck ragu maybe next time. Didn t stick around for desserts this time. Would love to come back for more. Also the staff were kind enough to split our bills.
OMG. If you want the best Italian restaurant in Sydney, this is it. Hidden away in Albert St, Albertos lounge is not just a place to eat, it is a full job Italian restaurant experience. From the little neon sign at the entrance to the long hallway to the dining area, this place feels like its building up to something and that something is delicious food and an extensive alcohol selection. The drinks menu has a few beers, the usual cocktails, (ask for whatever you want if its not on the menu), extensive spirit and wine list. Youll find something you like. The staff are incredibly friendly and know the menu back to front. The lighting is just right with real candles on the table. They even have a DJ playing. It wasnt techno, in fact it blended in so well I hardly remember what it was, it just got in worth the ambience of the place. We had the focaccia with olive oil first up.. OMG it certainly set the tone for the food quality, it was amazing. The mains we had were delicious, full of flavour and reminded me of the homemade food I had in Napoli years ago. Then, the dessert,I normally dont eat dessert, but I just had to, I didnt want to leave, I had to try more and OMG the little doughnuts were bite sized Nirvana. The decor is Its not cheap, but you have to treat yourself sometimes and this was worth every cent. We did walk in on a rainy Sunday and it was busy so make sure to book to avoid disappointment. OMG, thats what youll be saying for each bite. This place is the best Italian in Sydney, take your SO there, youll get brownie points like never before.
Dropped in for a drink and pre dinner snack and it was gorgeous. The food was delicious the focaccia is incredible. Staff were lovely. I ll definitely be back.
Great atmosphere and food. Even better aperitifs and digestifs! Thanks Jimmy.
A hidden italian gem! Everything we ordered was delicious and the service was brilliant!
Recommend : Focaccia with olive oil; Affettati misti; Prosciutto with burrata Good place to chilling with friends. The place is quite small and crowded, but that s fine. Playlist is full with blues music. Entrance isnt easy to find Walking in may spend few minutes to wait. Starters are so amazing, focaccia are crunchy and soft inside. Cheese in the platter is quite strong, meats are moderately salty, love it! But spaghetti are normal. Service is good
I think I ve actually dined here 4-5 times because of how much I love this hidden gem. It is privately located in a quiet street but the vibes inside are immaculate. Make sure to book in advance if you d like to be seated as they are usually fully booked. As I ve lived in Sydney for 4 years, I ve always made it a point to return to Alberto s as soon as the menu updated. You can see from the photos, they change up the way they accessorize their dishes but their ingredients are quality and worth every penny and all the calories in the world. You can taste the quality from the simple olive oil - chefs kiss! My only regret is not trying more of their desserts. Wishing to come back again and to all the people travelling to Syd, Australia make this spot a must do!
Food, service and ambience was great. The pasta was delicious :-)
My partner and I had a lovely lunch. We had the lunch set (3 courses) and it was very filling and soooo delicious! We also added buratta and focaccia. The best! Service was perfect too. Very attentive and welcoming wait staff. We will be coming back on our next visit to Sydney.
We were made to wait at least 15 minutes at 7:00 p.m., only to be told that there wouldnt be tables again until 9:00 p.m. There were still free tables, they were probably reserved. It is also narrow, dark and loud. Food looked good from a distance, but the prices on the menu are rather expensive.
Went with a group of friends on New Years Eve. It was so busy, but the staff were amazing and the food was great!
Never disappoints.
Gteat service, polite, knowledgeable, polite and patient. Food was excellent with the small room producing a great vibe.
Oh my this place is crazy good. Wine, food, experience - book it as it s popular
We had such a great time and so glad the restaurant is open late on a Sunday! We found this hidden gem starving on a Sunday evening, craving Italian. Vegan options are wonderful! Cocktails are made to perfection! Service was spectacular. Will definitely be back.
Amazing set course - pistachio gelato to die for
First time there and ordered 3 entrees, spiced sausage, tuna and burrata. The burrata was really good. Tuna and sausage were really salty! Nice but verrrry salty! We ordered their 500g steak thats on special. It was beautiful! But still quite salty. Not sure if anyone else experienced this? Panacotta was great!
Popped in for a quick late night dinner after seeing a show. What can I say, it was delicious. Seriously the best pasta I have ever had (squid ink linguini with king prawns). Quick and lovely service. Place was jammed with lovely atmosphere. Can t wait to go back again.
Loved this place; great Italian food, super friendly staff and great tunes and vibes all round
A first class experience! For online check in, continued through to exceptional service throughout our whole experience, the restaurant was an absolute joy. Some tricky dietary restrictions were accommodated most kindly and professionally. We felt incredibly welcome and very at home. The atmosphere was so cool, what a quaintly little sydney secret!!! The wine superb and food simply next level, tasty well balanced absolutely superb. The lamb was extraordinary. Can t recommend this place enough & will! Thanks so much. Dietary restrictions: They accommodated our group amazingly, this included someone who was gluten free and someone who can t have vinegar in anything
Great experience. Loved the decor and ambiance. It s a perfect date night spot tucked into a quiet alley. After entering through a long corridor you arrive into a light filled cosy room with bottles of wine lining the walls and an antique sheike vibe. Staff are chilled but on the ball with service. Shared the focaccia, buratta, two pastas and two side salads followed by the donut dessert. Everything was delicious and we left extremely satisfied. Including two drinks the bill was $210. I would certainly return.
A hot place where the food is really delicious and the atmosphere is nice. Must make a reservation
Best hole-in-the-wall discovery. Great food, good vibes, overall awesome dining experience.
Very pricey however worth it with how fresh the food is
Visited last night, really good vibes when we got there, service was also really good by the ladies working at the time, the entrées did take a bit of time to come but it was fine and we waited around 35-40 minutes for the mains. After we were done with the entrees, we had decided to keep what was left on the table to eat a bit of it with our mains, almost hitting the 30 min wait mark, the only male worker on the floor in our section, decides to ask if we are done with one of the entrees ( no one had asked us that whole time) and by this time we didn t want to eat it anymore so we told him we were done with it, then we asked if he knew how long left on the mains, he tried to say that they were waiting for us to be done with the entrees to bring it out, which I don t think was true, I think the mains were just taking some time (which is fine) but the fact that he tried to say it was taking long because we didn t say anything, I didn t appreciate it, kinda ruined my mood and was unnecessary. Mains were delicious tho.
Great hidden gem. Love the food and variety of beers. Be sure to make a reservation with time. Food : 5/5
We had a wonderful time on our anniversary and were treated to a complimentary prosecco which was a nice surprise. The food was perfect.
A beautiful lunch - food was amazing, wine beautiful and really a cool, interesting dining space - super creative and artistic. Thank you!
We were in a group so had to take the set menu which was the only negative for me. Too much food and things I wanted to try were not there. Otherwise could not fault it
Very nice place. Huge wine list. Small menu. Pleasant atmosphere and good music track. The food wasn t great. Simple. Small menu to choose from.
Fabulous spot, delicious food, good vibes. Highly recommend.
Absolutely divine! Im at a loss for words trying to describe these exquisite dishes. My craving for a flavorful pasta dish led me to Alberto Lounge, renowned for its handcrafted pasta and inventive menu. The Spaghetti Sorrentina, with its rich tomato-based sauce, generously topped with cheese and tomatoes, was simply delightful. However, the highlight of my dining experience was the Gigli con Granchio pasta adorned with blue swimmer crab, lemon, and pangrattato. Its easily the best pasta Ive savored in quite some time. Alberto Lounge has been on my radar for a while, and Im thrilled I finally tried it. Im already planning my return; its rare for me to revisit restaurants, but this place is exceptional. The specials, including the irresistible focaccia , are worth mentioning. Each bite was a symphony of flavors, complemented by the cozy ambiance reminiscent of classic swillhouse vibes. Places like Alberto Lounge, with their intimate settings and outstanding cuisine, are truly a gem to discover. Vegetarian options: Yes Dietary restrictions: Yes
To start, we had to wait over 45 minutes to get our food, the lights were so dim we had to take our flashlight to be able to read the menu, the music was so loud I could hear the couple sitting there better next to us is my own wife sitting on the other side of the table! This shows how close the tables are to each other. .. Each time the waiters came by, the place was so cramped that I was hit in the back. Claustrophobics therefore refrain... Ultimately the music is not relaxing at all! I would add that the temperature was so cool that all four of us had to put on our sweaters. We are a European family on vacation and although the food was OK, which for all the reasons previously mentioned, this establishment seems largely overrated to us. In short, all this makes us think that Alberto lounge is run by a team of geeks more gifted in marketing than in cooking, and all this seems very pathetic to us!
2023 most disappointing meal out in Sydney, basically seated next to each other patrons table that I just hear there conversations . for the swillhouse group Calibre of food was so mediocre and half dishes on the menu were not available - spend your money at kindreds or grana ...
Everything was amazing! The food was perfect - the entree Tuna dish was incredible. The lovely gentleman who helped us with ordering and our Amaro selections made the evening! Thank you so much! Definitely on my top list for Sydney.
Party of 9. Set menu. Food was excellent. Waiter very good and accommodated many different food needs. Definitely return. Thanks
Fantastic vibe here. Staff are awesome but food is better. Great wine list too. So good, you d think you were in Melbourne
Wow..... pretty hard to beat this one! Was looking for Italian food and came across this amazing authentic italian dining lounge hiding away... Out the gate 5* and more. Its another level everything met and above expectations. Highly recommend here
Really lovely restaurant in a small cozy space. The food is made from quality and fresh ingredients. Serving sizes are small but quality makes up for it. Lovely staff that are friendly and very helpful. We were provided with option for half serving size of the gelato and even that was very generous.
There was a lunch course so I ate alone. I went there after seeing a recommendation somewhere, and the store is small and has a great atmosphere. The salad wasnt sour and not to my taste, but the cacio pepe was worth it! But the amount is too small... I also ordered the popular rib pasta. But its too salty The size of the panna cotta that came out at the end is a joke hahaha It seems to be bigger than the pasta... The pudding was okay too! The staff are very friendly haha. Its worth going once, but the amount is small so dont go often. I don t think I can go. For your information, I m a woman.
Ordered the braised beef cheek Pappardelle but received it with busiate pasta instead with no mention of the change from the waiter. The flavour of the dish was okay, nothing special I personally think the pastas from Tottis are more flavourful. Service was a bit slow considering the place was not busy. Decor an atmosphere is a vibe.
Such a cosy spot to catch up with a couple of friends or a date. Service was very friendly and attentive. Food was delicious and visually beautiful.
Made a reservation but became unwell, called 8 hours beforehand to advise the team, was charged a $200 cancellation fee. Obscene.
