This is one of Sydney's best intimate omakase experiences with so many exceptional courses! Some of the highlights include the luxurious silky smooth chawanmushi, the rich succulent patagonia toothfish, delicious m9+ wagyu beef cuts, flavour packed miso soup with pipis and the finest nigiri expertly crafted in front of your eyes including heavenly bluefin otoro with caviar. They also have a wonderful sake pairing that was really well thought out to balance with the food, and also super generous in servings!

My wife and I had a wonderful dining experience at Besuto. The food was fresh, with a delightful mix of local and imported ingredients in seasonally curated dishes that transported me back to memories of Japan. The seating at the sushi counter was comfortable, with the environment perfectly balanced—pleasant lighting (avoiding the overly dim settings of some establishments) and an ideal room temperature. The chef and wait staff worked seamlessly together, providing attentive and warm service that enhanced the overall experience. My only suggestion would be to adjust slightly the pacing of the meal. My wife felt a bit rushed at times, as plates were cleared swiftly, which detracted slightly from the relaxed dining atmosphere. That said, I’d happily return if I can manage to secure a booking, as Besuto is understandably popular right now!

My dining experience at Besuto Sydney was exceptionally good. Having visited over five omakase places, I can say this one ranks near the top. Returning after my initial visit when it was located in Loftus Lane was a delight. Highlights included a handroll with extra uni, generously provided by the chef, and a delicious combination of wagyu beef with battered, deep-fried asparagus that had a vinegary taste. The mackerel, prepared traditionally, was flavorful without being fishy. The meal concluded perfectly with a refreshing yuzu gelato from Zini. Besuto Sydney continues to impress with its exceptional food and attentive service, making it a top recommendation for a special occasion.

Besuto is a truly Japanese style restaurant; so it is not big in size. The Omakase section may serve up to 10 guests. Thus, booking in advance is highly recommended. It also has a bar lounge to serve beer and wine, and of course, the Japanese sakes. The chef is very experienced and skilful in preparing every dish for the guests. The food is so delicious, dedicated, and fine. The sushi are such differences from those sushi shops. The chef was trained by a famous master in Kyoto decades ago. He has a nice and pleasant personality. He chatted with guests to have a feel-easy atmosphere. This is an unforgettable lunch for my birthday. One important thing to note is that this restaurant is located on the street very close to Circular Quay, but rather difficult to find it.

My friend took me here for my birthday and while it wasn't cheap it was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. Superb food, superb service, a lovely experience. The whiskey cocktails were delicious, the sushi was subtle and textured, the service was attentive and friendly, the atmosphere was quiet and refined. Perhaps my only criticism was that the music was sort of jazz versions of popular tunes and I didn't feel it was as stylish and considered as the rest of the venue. But honestly, I can't knock a star off the review because everything else was just so good. It's a small venue- there were three parties (of two, two and four) and all of them were birthdays! I'm not surprised. This is a place you go for special events, to experience slow thoughtful dining. We arrived at 7:45pm and left after 10:00pm. Despite the small individual serves I was absolutely replete and very satisfied. Highly highly recommended.

Wow! What an experience. Bookings are open on the first of every month for the following month. We were able to secure a spot for 2 at 5:30pm on the Friday night before Christmas on the 1st of November. Did not know what to expect and stayed clear of looking at reviews to make the experience a surprise. There was a total of 13 courses, with premium ingredients. My favourite was the toothfish with pickled cauliflower and a5 wagyu. The omakase chef was lovely and made sure everyone was looked after. There was a total of 8 seats which also made it a very intimate experience. Price was 250pp + 12pp for water + other drinks. Would highly recommend for special occasions.

For the Omakase, food is just ok, nothing special. The place is in the small, dark basement with no interior decoration. Probably it wants to give natural, intimate, garage style impression. But unfortubately, the place looks dingy & cheap for the price paid for the food !!

This was only my second time going to an Omakase in Sydney and I definitely enjoyed this experience here at Besuto, the food is beautifully prepared by an amazing chef, service is extremely professional and the atmosphere was dim and cozy. We had Omakase to celebrate our anniversary, the waiter then served us a candle on the sorbet at the end saying happy birthday. We were hoping that with this budget the service and food would be impeccable, little did we know, it was underwhelming and left us rather disappointed. The entree and nigiri dishes were superb but the dessert lacked sophistication. Yuzu sorbet scooped up with a Hoyts ice cream scoop and a wooden spoon plonked on top is nothing close to satisfactory for a refined palate. Sake pairing for $165 pp was average with many courses sharing the same sake. The lack of variety doesnt justify the price of this pairing. Mineral water ended up a whooping $24 for 2pp who probably shared the bottle btw. That was insane and wasnt displayed clearly to our knowledge. You would expect sparkling water to be complimentary at $250 pp. Last but not least the surcharge on our bill was an eye opener $51??! When questioned the waiter, he was condescending about it saying we had agreed on the T&Cs when booking for our spots. We had to go back online to really find it in the small font and at the bottom, a whooping 7.5% on the final bill. (15% on weekends) Think ahead what youd be paying before you go there. Im not sure what you guys think but Id recommend you to go elsewhere unless you are clearly wanting to spend so much on-top of the $250pp.

This is exactly what Besuto delivered. David was invested in his diners, and proactively inquisitive about any feedback; and Chef Michiaki s creations were curated and plated with meticulous care and precision, which really is just a glimpse into the preparation that goes into each element before the diners even arrive. An excellent evening, particularly if you are interested in how the elements of each dish are prepared and where the produce is from. Would have loved something to take home from the experience, with the details of the dishes we ate, but also understand this is ever-changing and perhaps a way to protect the creativity of Chef s work.

It wasnt easy to find the place, it is tucked away downstairs in an alley behind a Japanese whisky bar. Inside we were seated with 6 others with two very talented and detail oriented chefs in front of us. There was also David the sommelier, who kept everyone engaged with his tidbits of information on every dish. Was a pleasant and entertaining night. The food was phenomenal, I dont know how you get the tuna to be so soft, or have such fresh uni. Caviar was delicious as well. Really enjoyed the chawamushi with their shellfish oil twist, turned it from a light dish into something super flavoursome. The nigiri and handrolls were so good I found myself trying to eat them as slowly as I could.

Such an amazing omakase! Celebrated a birthday dinner and could not have asked for a better experience. Service here was great. Staff, waiter and chef were all so accommodating and ensured everyone was well looked after. Waiter gave a thorough explanation of each dish so that guests had knowledge of how best to optimally enjoy the meal. Chef was very skilled as each course was so intricately prepared using high quality produce. The taste of each dish definitely reflects this as it was all so fresh and delicious. Highlight for me was the chawanmushi; it was textured so smooth and silky and the lobster oil used gave such a pleasant umami flavour. Overall, Besuto has definitely set the bar for omakase experiences and I would love to go again.

We stepped through to an underground room that felt very intimate with only 8 seats, you can really focus on the chef and what hes cooking in front of you. Had their omakase and was thoroughly impressed. My family wouldn t stop raving about it after. The waitress Winnie and the waiter (didn t catch his name) were great and made us feel very welcomed. Chef Kim was also very personable and friendly and explained each dish as they were served. Definitely worth a try if you want something more than your usual sushi meal. Their chawanmushi, otoro, wagyu, and yuzu sorbet were our favourite. Parking: Wilson parking available nearby but it s expensive. Wheelchair accessibility: Yes, they have a lift if you re trying their omakase.

Everyone goes to restaurant with an expectation, mine was one friend telling me it was the best, the other said the opposite. So my judgement was based on what kind of food compare to its price point. For AUD215 (Jan-23) I expected: 1) wow I never had that before, not just ingredients but the Taste However, only 4 out of 18 dishes did that. 2) chefs interactions with guests, because thats the real difference in Omakase dining. There were almost none... he introduced what each dish is, then that s about it. 3) head chef is doing the main cooking, again thats what you would call Omakase. But from what I can see, the head chef was Assembing not cooking.... the chef next to him was the one cooking. The rating of 3 star is because its An Average on all 3 counts. Dish that I thought was not meeting stanard in fine dining are: Prawn and artic surf clams salad, you will see in the picture that the prawn intestine has not been clean properly. Chawanmushi with sea urchin and mud crab, there shells in mine one. Sashimi, from memory there was John Dory, whiting, they were all dry and doesnt have much flavours...perhaps its a deliberate choice because they want to Build up the flavours from light to heavey into the main hot dishes. Oh.... and my friend it had fishbone in her piece.... Abalone with abalone source rice, the abalone was dried, although I saw them took it out of a hotpot assuming it has been in broth. Grill scallops was size of a 5cent piece(extremely small), I was expecting Hokkaido grade or even the ones from cabramatta fish markers are way way way bigger.... Pippi soup was just one pippi and the smallest size... come on... two more wouldnt hurt. What puzzled me most was Wasabi, I questioned if the wasabi they used was fresh wasabi, fine dining restaurant Should Not use readily made wasabi. The staff assured me it was fresh wasabi, and he shown me the grading tool they used, However, fresh wasabi can only be granted and consume within 5mins, however I did not see them grading it. So i do have my doubts about that claim, also I have had fresh wasabi before and the ones they served was ... different... Dish that I loved was the flavour of chawanmushi, grill Wagyu beef with foie gras, many restaurant put too much foie gras, and it took away the beef flavours,but this one was just right. Toro was great, the yuzu sorbet was amazing! Therefore overall just an average for me and I strongly suggest the restaurant review its choice of food supplier, you may have great skills, but japanese food cant hind bad choice of ingredients.

A beautiful and wonderful omakase experience! Chef Hiro is super warm and welcoming and you can tell he is very passionate about his Japanese culture and food. There is no over the top showy performances like other omakase I ve been at before - it s genuinely about fresh produce, beautiful taste and a magnificent dining experience. Jake the waiter is also brilliant! The toothfish dish was my absolute favourite. Also loved so many of the dishes including the wagyu (that was a very hot pepper!), the yuzu oyster, chutoro, and yuzu sake sorbet. I would definitely recommend Besuto if you want a high quality omakase dining experience. They also have an extensive wine/sake menu!

Wish I can give 3.5stars but google doesnt give me that option. in short, its not bad, but for the price you would expect more. Omakase should be serve directly from the Chefs hands to your plate and the speed should be adjusted according to your customer. In this restaurant, Chef made most of the dishes together all at once and distribute it to the sitting customers and there is a long wait in between, this is really a disappointment. For the Sushi, the acidity of the rice is not there, I question the experience of the sushi chef. For sushi, the rice is just as important as the seafood, if you cant do the rice correctly its just a waste of the seafood. Thats another disappointment. For the Good side, we were at at lunch, atmosphere is good, seafood is nice, staff were attentive, however, for the price we paid, we wish there were more. More communication between customer and chef would be good. I would reduce the staff outside, and put another 1-2 chef in the counter to serve the food directly to your customers. You can easily tell the chefs werent the owner, and they were just doing their Job. The whole experience is missing the WOW factor. Wish it could be a restaurant that I would return to.. .... Happy to do another review if restaurant owner invite us back.

For a restaurant that boasts Sydneys best omakase, we were sorely disappointed. Upon arrival, the waitress talked up the 15 courses as if we were in for a feast, but then proceeded to serve up the first five courses on one plate (pictured). Thats right - every small piece of nigiri sushi you are served counts as one course, making the entire experience an overpriced sushi tasting. The staff were generally attentive in keeping the patrons well lubricated to the point where half the restaurant - including the chef and waiters - were inebriated and singing at the tops of their lungs by the end of the night. Somewhat embarrassing for the few of us who werent nearly half as sloshed. Beware that they whack a mandatory 7.5% service charge on top of your bill and the advertised omakase price of $195pp. Theyll even ask you to leave a tip on top of that, which Im sure slips past most diners if the staff have succeeded in getting them drunk enough. Bit of a sleazy tactic in my mind. Definitely not the best omakase in Sydney. Possibly closer to the worst.

First and foremost, due to Covid and the unfortunate events that can arise, Besuto (Lenny) lived up to all expectations with being very understanding and accommodating, thank you very much! The experience was great, nestled above a quiet laneway, we were treated to a small counter omakase experience, the welcome was warm and the scenery comfortable. Hiro-san (Chef) was so very friendly and respectable, the courses served were amazing and was perfect for our palette. Courses came out with varying flavour and was also explained to us. Thank you Hiro-san. Good selection of drinks on offer, from Japanese beer, whisky & umeshu. Favourite of mine was black larger (shikkoku) All the other staff were professional with great customer service. The restaurant was clean, and each patron was treated with care and felt special. One of the first things I realised I was in for when I stepped into Besuto was that its not your typical Omakase experience. Chef Hiro and Lenny were welcoming and warm. They encouraged diners to interact with them, were more than happy to be in photos / videos, and explained the courses as they were served. As for the ambience, the space is small, but well utilised with unfussy elegance. It reminded me of dining at a sushi restaurant in Ginza. The 18 course omakase consisted of a generous variety of dishes, not confined to just sushi. It started with an oyster, and a short series of small plates of seafood (and there was even a delicious cauliflower soup). This followed with the sushi (faves were the anago and chutoro). Then we had some warm dishes (pork with sweet potato, miso toothfish), and finished with the tamago cake and yuzushu sorbet. It was a cohesive meal, with highlights along the way. Overall, its a solid experience. Ill be keeping an eye on the menu as the seasons change and will be back for more.

The chef is very professional. Their style and food is well documented in a lot of photos you see. I think Besutos seafood-only Omakase offering misses the mark in a lot of areas. The restaurant boasted 20 courses on the night I dined. About four of the early courses were just variations of mixed sashimi with different garnish. Each dish was decent, but I saw no merit in serving such similar courses one after the other. One or two of the courses were over-seasoned. Because it was a seafood-only menu, there was no wagyu beef course that one would normally expect at an omakase. Instead, the restaurant offered Patagonian toothfish, which was fine, mainly because Patagonian toothfish is naturally succulent and it doesnt take much to bring out its flavour. This is the other issue. None of the courses really showed any innovation or creativity. I feel like you could give all the expensive ingredients Besuto used to any chef from a mid-range Japanese restaurant, and they would produce similar quality dishes but a with a lower price tag. Next came the nigiri portion of the omakase. This is where a sushi chefs years of experience and pursuit of perfection should shine through. Sushi chefs exhaustively consider every element of the nigiri - fish, rice, soy, wasabi - and combine them in such harmony to leave the diner breathless. I think the chefs (there are two) at Besuto make their nigiri with too little rice. As a result, it felt like I was eating yet another piece of sashimi, after already having close to ten courses of raw and cooked fish. None of the course really stood out to me, and one expects every course to be exceptional at an omakase. The chefs seemed to struggle to prepare the next course in time for the twelve diners that were present. Staff encouraged diners to chat with their neighbours, and they themselves mingled with customers well. But it feels like this was an attempt to mask the fact that the chefs couldnt serve the courses at the desired pace. The staff were certainly friendly and attentive, and I enjoyed the more casual atmosphere. There were also one or two minor issues that I felt simply wouldnt be overlooked by a chef staking their reputation on their restaurant. Things like the ginger being served in chunks rather than thin slices. Instead of cleansing the palate between nigiri pieces, they left an overpowering taste in your mouth. The tamagoyaki (a sweet egg dessert) seemed to be haphazardly cut. I just cant recommend Besuto to anyone. People whove never been to an omakase will not be getting the full experience, and people who have will leave feeling underwhelmed. Besutos offering feels more like a seafood tasting menu with a Japanese theme. Inexplicably, they didnt even have a tempura course. I think Besuto need to reconsider their entire approach, because right now it feels like they dont belong in the same tier as the other omakase offerings in Sydney.

Went a couple of weeks ago and must say we had a incredible time, amazing food, such a great service! By far the best omakase in the country. Experience it for yourself or miss out. The whisky collection is huge, affordable and has very hard to find top shelf wonders. A must try!!! Will definitely come back for more!

The moment this Omakase opened I wanted to dine and sadly, it took too long. I have now and can definitely recommend. The journey the food has taken is amazing. Each dish has a story of why and where, the food is fresh and well balanced, and delicious. We took the sake pairing option and this heightened the experience. The team know how to make your experience really worth the money you spend. The space is intimate and cosy, and it makes you feel like youre part of the family. Hero is hilarious; he will actually pose for photos and has a good laugh with all the diners. Sadly, there are a lot of one star reviews here that appear themed and planned. Ignore the noise and read the real reviews with people talking about the food. I cant wait to go back and see how dishes evolve and change over time.

One of if not the best authentic Japanese food experiences I ve had. The 18 course lunch was amazing and the set menu pushed me to try things I normally wouldn t order but were delicious. The Toro Tuna and the salmon were the star dishes for me. The setting is warm and friendly as are the staff. The service was impeccable and the food was Devine. It took me back to trips to North Honshu with the predominantly seafood assortment. Would highly recommend to anyone who loves Japanese cuisine.

Truly amazing. All the dishes were really sorted after with care. Very good value on 18 courses for just over 200 bucks. Chef Hiro is the one who made us feel welcomed and so as the rest of staffs were very professional and knowledgeable. First time trying Omakase at Besuto but wouldnt be the last. This if from the formal executive chef. :) Well done team.

The red rice sake and the ebi tamagoyaki were delicious and interesting. Lots of aburi, done in a way that just melts in your mouth. The rice on the sushi tasted great but the cooking point seemed a bit harder than usual. The prawn entree was overcooked on the other hand. Would have liked more types of shiromi.

Besuto is a charming exquisite Omakase house. We went up the manual lift and greeted by a Japanese pebble garden. Upon arriving, the wait staff were friendly and we were introduced to the Chef, (both named Hiro!). The head chef had a terrific sense of humour as he introduced the 18-course meal. Each plated with care and precision. I especially loved how fresh the sashimi was and how pleasant they looked. Theres great interaction between the Chef and the patrons; the drink menu was impressive (though some of the drink menu wasnt in full flight yet). Most importantly this is the place you could dine at for a birthday celebration or an intimate evening with close friends. Highly recommended!

A wonderful dining experience! The food was delicious - flavours delicate and well seasoned. The staff were wonderful especially when our flight was delayed and we could not make our 6.30pm booking/sitting. They allowed us to start later and were able to allow us to catch up on the initial courses we missed. They even catered to my friend who is coeliac. The waiter Jake even managed to convert me a non-sake drinker to enjoying the 2 different types of sake we had with dinner. He truly could read us well and his recommendations were spot on! Thank you Joel, Jake and the rest of the team at Besuto for a wonderful night!

What a wonderful experience - a real culinary delight! Every course was so flavourful and beautifully executed. Personal favourite was everything with sea urchin (including the egg custard!), the mackerel nigiri and abalone. But what really stood out was the service. Friendly, relaxed and attentive. Overall, definitely NOT recommend. Went there on my friends birthday on September, for this price point, I didn t enjoy the quality of the ingredients. The fish is not as fresh, besides, it s the first time I had an salmon sushi at this price point. The sushi rice is quite hard, seems to be too half-cooked, which I don t enjoy that much. Chawanmushi is really smooth and tasty, but the Uni quality was very disappointing. The yummy one is the oyster, with a touch of yuzu, common seasoning but it s great and tasty. The ice cream was also nice.

Had a horrible experience due to the fact that the manager, Lenny, was drunk from drinking heavily with a group of extremely loud customers whilst serving them alcohol. The dinner already had a shaky start given there was a large group of extremely loud customers at a 10 seat omakase which is usually enjoyed in a quiet and elegant atmosphere. Half way through, the manager started to pour that particular group of customers with his own supply of sake and in turn started to drink with them, ignoring the rest of the restaurant. A phrase that I overheard that came from the manager included if you finish your drink, Ill finish my drink. Obviously this is extremely unprofessional and probably again the RSA. Hopefully they get their things in order!
