Embark on a culinary adventure at SOUL Dining, a hatted modern Korean restaurant in Sydney that masterfully blends traditional flavors with contemporary techniques. Immerse yourself in a vibrant atmosphere as you savor exquisite dishes crafted from the finest seasonal ingredients, each bite a symphony of textures and tastes. Unwind with a selection of handcrafted cocktails, perfectly complementing the symphony of flavors unfolding on your palate.
Came here for birthdays of my friend and I, and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience here with the high quality of table service and food. The Korean Fusion Menu was very interesting and did not disappoint. I ordered the claypot rice like the rest of the review recommended and YES it is a MUST if you like fish. Will come back another time when the menu changes!
So many great options to try so decided to go for the Tasting Menu. Was definitely worth it! The ox tongue, prawn tteokbokki, and beef rib were my faves. The atmosphere was great as well! Service was really good. Nice place for a special occasion. The only thing was we booked too late and only got the outdoor option but there were mozzies around. Regardless, would still go back but would choose the indoor dining.
A great experience at this easily accessible hatted restaurant, right by Wynyard station. Food was clean, eloquently plated and tasty. The staff and service was great and we were well looked after. Cost, dimly lit restaurant as a good date night location. We didn’t do the tasting menu but the table beside us did and maybe we should have as it looked like a great sample selection less than what we paid with more selection. Would go again. Try the chocolate cake - just like Japanese Royce chocolate fudge, so good.
Will return ! Came here with my partner for my birthday. We ordered from the A La Carte menu and were blown away by the service and the taste! Would highly recommend the beef short rib and the Claypot rice. The signature rice bread is also a must try !
Visited soul dining with a group of 7 people. We got the set menu and added a wagyu tartare each and 2 claypot rice to share. The set menu comprised of a range of different dishes and flavours. Some I found quite average eg the rice cake, bibimbap and tteok, and would prefer the traditional style. I did enjoy the kingfish and beef short rib.
I'd previously been to Soul Deli and enjoyed it so thought I'd give Soul Dining a go. The food was nice and well presented but for the price point, it may have fallen a bit short both in flavour and portion. I think a couple dishes we ordered should not have been categorised under "Mains & to share". The service was not the friendliest but sufficient. I guess I'm glad I tried it but quite disappointed.
WARNING: You’ll book your next visit while you’re there while you’re having the CLAYPOT RICE!!! So scrumptious, soooo good. To whoever creates this dish I hope your coffee always tastes good and you’ll never need to wait for red light. The oysters were so well complemented with the kimchi icy topping was so fresh and creamy, perfect to start the night. Another must have is the Soondae croquettes, so flavorful and was a flavor that we didn’t expect (in the best way possible). We also had Pork Cutlet which was so juicy and fresh, quite a big portion too. Service is top-notch, waitresses are friendly Special thanks to our Sommelier, Liz, whom we think need a raise for all of her excellent work! Kev is amazing too :) We enjoyed our time and also watching the dynamic of the restaurant with the beautitul ambience. Wouldn't have enjoyed it this much without the two! I also have allergy that was well accommodated so that's highly appreciated🫶🏻 We ended the night with mugwort bingsu which was a new taste for us. We love exploring Korean food but the dessert is surely interesting. Kinda taste like matcha at first but it's mugwort. Oh, did I mention that the Cocktails were superb too?! Matcha cocktail that was extremely fresh to start the night and Tiramisu cocktail that was so creamy! to end the meal. BEST combo! If you reach till the end of the review, I just wanna say please order 2 of the claypot rice if there is more than 2 people dining! I will have one on my own next time!!
The food was excellent but I do think there should be some restrictions on the attitude of people dining in and atmosphere. The lady next to me had her shoes off and feet on the chair like she was dining at home. Her kids were slamming the cups on the table and running around the restaurant, throwing tissues on the floor. I do appreciate the staff having a word with her but it’s just not a vibe when you’re trying to enjoy a nice dinner. There were also groups taking photos of each other with flash on. Photos are not an issue but when it’s constant through the whole dinner seating it does get annoying. Anyways, we loved the devilled eggs they were so good we ordered it twice. The oysters were kind of like a slushy but everything else was great. All in all, I would come back but hope the restaurant atmosphere improves. Especially when it’s considered a high end restaurant.
Absolutely incredible food served with excellent service. Attention to detail in the serving team is evident and the fusion of Korean and western flavours is executed flawlessly. Cocktails were fantastic too. Will definitely be dining here again! Thank you team.
Food was tasty, balanced and interesting. We loved the pumpkin dish (pictured), and like other reviewers mentioned the rice cakes and clay pot are a must. We had a great lunch. Thank you Soul Dining team x
Every single dish tastes out of this world - first time here and will be back.
The restaurants chic, modern decor creates an inviting atmosphere, perfectly setting the stage for a menu that creatively reimagines traditional Korean dishes with bold flavours, stunning presentation and fresh, high-quality ingredients, all complemented by attentive, friendly and knowledgeable service. That said, I must admit that the prices are quite steep considering the portion sizes. While I appreciate the quality ingredients, exceptional cooking and attentive service, there could be a better balance between price and portion size to ensure value for money. The wine list is thoughtfully curated and quite extensive; however, the beer selection, while commendably steering clear of the industrial swill offered by many restaurants, could benefit from being expanded. Overall a great food experience albeit very expensive.
Food was somewhat lackluster and overpriced. Toothfish clay pot rice was solid, porcini tteokbokki was extremely bland. Chicken and kingfish was average.
Now.. it was a little pricey - but we also did not hold back. Services was exceptional and the food - simply awesome. Make sure u get the devilled eggs. Delish! Great bench of cocktails too - really appreciated the creativity . Nice work team Soul!
Experience korean fushion. Nice yes, Expensive yes,
Incredible experience. Not only the taste but also the service.
Service, food, flavour, everything 10/10
Delicious great fusion ! Cocktails are divine
Just another over priced joint in the city.
Food was delicious, wonderful service by Debbie. Definitely recommend
a favourite! always so delicious
Really mid for me. Service was not that great and nothing special about the food. The Tartare was probably the best dish we had
Your food and service are terrible
What a great find in Sydney! I ve walked past this place so many times and never realised it existed! Delicious well curated dishes - a taste sensation every dish! Can t wait to go back!
The food was absolutely amazing here, and the service was the best i ve ever received. They were very attentive and asked me how everything was going. I also loved the atmosphere of this place, and it has a more of a modern interior so it is very nice to take pictures in. The food was also so good and so worth it.
We thoroughly enjoyed the tasting menu here. The matching non-alcoholic cocktail menu was also excellent.
Food was amazing! Great service from French waiter
Lovely service especially from the French waiter, he was amazing. Did our beef tartare and just super welcoming. 10/10. Would recommend. Thank you!
All the dishes were excellent, very professional service. Reccomend a visit.
I had excellent customer service managing our booking. Kevin went above and beyond to accommodate our group. Will book in again the next time Im in Sydney
Food and service were brilliant. Staff were attentive, friendly and patient and made us feel very comfortable. Food was fantastic, amazing flavours and delivered with near perfect timing. Our favourites from the menu were Devilled Eggs and the scallops as well as the Abalone Risotto & Porcini Tteobokki.
Food and Service was amazing. We brought 8 month baby there was no problem. Our waiter was so friendly. I definitely come back again
Is so so so bad service! Im smoking an electronic cigarette which in the outside, The waiter told me that I would be fined $600 and that he would keep staring at me with a very bad tone and attitude What right do you have to impose fines? I in the outside!
Beautiful food, beautiful cocktails, beautiful service. Really loved the Claypot Rice, fish was so flavourful, truffle butter was so aromatic. I dont usually like oysters but they complement their oysters with good dressing that made me enjoy their oysters. Thank you to Liz for her beautiful description of the food and cocktails, we got to learn about Korean food in a special way. Appreciate the nice hospitality. Will come back!
Pork cutlet we ordered was not cooked enough. Some part was red and even tough. Desserts were absolutely below the average. Maybe they don t know what bingsu is. Watermelon sorbet was just typical sorbet but couldn t taste watermelon. Overall, they said they re based korean cuisine, but i can t feel how they ise korean food into fusion dishes and everything was just normal and something was below average. I think i ll not go back again.
Every dish was amazing. The bingsu was one of the best desserts Ive had, ever.
Customer service was terrible. We arrived 6pm in the evening and the hostess sat us at a table closet to the entrance. We kindly requested to move to another table but we only received a lecture on why she cannot do it. By the time we left the restaurant at 8pm, we can still see empty 2-seater table available inside. Food in general was average. They were mainly western dishes with a twist of Korean garnishing. Compared to some of the Michelin star Korean restaurants we tried, they didn t present the essence of the fusion in their dishes. In addition, when dishes were served, they were sometimes presented with a name but no description. This is not the type of service we received from similar fine dining restaurants. Therefore, I am unsure what the restaurant is meant to stack up against or is it supposed to be a casual diner? Overall, an underwhelming experience. (Unlike my usual review, I didn t take any photo because my mood was not up for it) Dietary restrictions: They have Pescetarian option
Wow now weve found our Korean restaurant in Sydney, loved it.
The atmosphere was nice and the food and wine were really delicious. However, the seasoning for the meat may have been a bit salty, so as a Korean, it would have been nice to have rice :) I can see that they put a lot of care into preparing the menu. However, I could see areas that need improvement in the service. The foreign servers speaking style was so direct that it made me feel really bad every time I heard it expressed things like What do you want?, you have to order now, you have to leave now. . Even in English, don t we usually say what would you like to order? Also, I appreciate that they kept asking Is it delicious? every time the menu was presented, but it was uncomfortable because they interrupted the conversation several times. I think two or three times would be enough, but I think you really asked more than ten times. And even though I was aware of the two hour seating time and there was a waiting time in between because it was a tasting menu, as soon as the dessert came out, when I had eaten about two spoonfuls, they told me to leave because it was 5 minutes past the two hour limit. They said there would be customers waiting, but when I came out, no one was waiting and I felt like I was being kicked out. It was a special place I went to for my birthday, but the service was very disappointing. The food was really delicious and pretty, but considering the seating time, I dont think you should order the tasting menu, and I recommend a la carte. Honestly, there were a lot of other inconvenient aspects of the service that I didnt write about here, but I think the servers way of speaking definitely needs improvement.
I just have very bad experience here about the food quality. I mean the taste is fine but after a long day at work i have not eat anything. And then i have dinner here with wagyu tartare and claypot rice. That is the moment made me went to the bathroom all night and got the feeling that i almost got food poisoning
First time I went to soul dining was when it opened in Surry Hills. I enjoyed the food very much and liked the restaurant environment. However, this time, I was disappointed. We had dinner. The new location is big and neat but feels commercial. For the price, food was average. I was especially disappointed with the beef rib. 6 small pieces and half is gristle.
It was a great experience, I ve been hosted by Anabel who made my night, she really took care of me. The clay pot rice was my favorite but also the chili tuna Big mention for the mixologies who created the cocktails, lychee harmony and the sweet Yuja are fabulous I ll be back shortly
THE BEST RESTAURANT IN SYDNEY. The food was modern Korean food with a bit of fusion. I highly recommend this place to anyone. Even with high food cost every cent was worth it. The cost of the food is easily made up for the amazing fresh high quality food. The complementary rice bread at the beginning was one of the best breads.
Our experience at Soul Dining was outstanding. The customer service was exceptional and the menu took a creative twist on Korean cuisine. The sweet potato dessert was an absolute highlight! Cannot recommend this place enough and we cant wait to be back.
The food was just not good, it was a big disappointment. Extremely small portions that didnt taste good and made me sick. I would not recommend. The Oysters were kind of warm, the service was good, but I still would not go back. Save yourself some Imodium and go somewhere else.
8 of us showed up without a booking on a relatively busy Monday night. The Manager couldnt have been more accommodating to the gaggle of fatigued office-workers that showed up to the front desk. We were warmly greeted by staff, shown to a very comfortable table and were quickly enjoying a drink from a varied and comprehensive drinks list. The food was excellent and there was no problem splitting the bill. We will be back. Thank you for a great dining experience.
Perfect experience, excellent service from Michel and amazing cocktail. Will definitely come back! Food
Kev and Mich made the night. Food was brilliant, but these 2 made it unforgettable. Went from 5 outta 5 to 10 outta 5. Legends. Food
Bit noisy, and pricey, the food actually fills you up
Decent place for dinner. We got the tasting menu and it was filling, however, i think what made it filling was that lots of the courses had rice. I would rather it was filling because of protein, especially as the price was $120. There were 8 dishes, excluding desert, and half of them were rice heavy. First one was fermented rice bread. Third was Ox tongue covered in a dough, maybe it s not rice but it was sweet and heavy. Sixth was scallop with lots of sweet black/purple rice. Seventh was prawn with tteokbokki. Very heavy, though it had a good bisque style sauce. The last dish was beef which was really good but I was too full by then to eat much, which seemed a waste. We got it with hash browns which had a nice texture and at least it wasn t rice! Desert was some sweet pastry similar to the dough of the ox tongue, with ice cream. Not bad. If I do come back here, I would order ala carte instead.
Fabulous modern Korean diner in the heart of Sydney. We had the $120 pp tasting menu. All the dishes were excellent. Well balance, exquisite flavours in all the dishes. Also, wines prices are very reasonable and even more so during happy hour ($8 per glass for there house wine).
I can say this with confidence. This is the best Korean fine dining in Sydney Impressive taste and atmosphere the award winning Korean fine dining in Sydney. Best of the best I would say. Must try it!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent service from Kev tonight. Great food and good timing for food to be brought out. Can t fault any dish. Highly recommend :)
The food looks good in photos and the concepts are creative. but the $46 chicken tasted soggy n mushy as if its been soaked in water for an hr. the cabbage on it was strangely bitter. the $68 clay pot rice with toothfish wasnt salted, skin wasnt crispy. Claypot rice normally has slightly crispy rice on the bottom near the flame but there was none. even the truffle butter didnt have have truffle flavour. Spicy tuna dish was really sweet n no salt agn except for the ketchup they added in the sauce. I did like the chips with the tuna dish but chef needs to put flakey salt for better flavour. this was way overpriced. there was no seasoning just the sauce n felt like I ate expired chicken and cabbage didnt have pesticides washed out. Please return back to the quality before the move
We had the beef tartare, and it came with crispy seaweed such a great combo! The textures were super rich, and the flavor was on point . The short rib was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the kimchi tteokbokki? Absolutely delicious . Definitely recommend checking this spot out if you re into flavorful dishes with a unique twist.
This restaurant is a Korean-Australian restaurant with a hat. - claypot rice with glacier Toothfish and truffle this was OUTSTANDING - so good we ordered two ! - beef short rib - fermented rice bread amazing flavour and such interesting and chewy texture Food 10/10 - the Toothfish rice really was one of the best dishes I have ever eaten Highly recommend this restaurant
Food
Very special restaurant. Very, unique and delicious dishes that will surprise you. Really impressed by this restaurant and the quality and variety of ingredients. Beautiful atmosphere and friendly service. We got the Korean bread, triple cooked octopus, oysters, prawn and mushroom pastas. Dietary restrictions: They check on dietary restrictions and take them seriously
This is an exquisite little place. It has a relaxed yet cool sophistication about it without the pretentiousness. A well thought out and executed menu with the fusion element crafted intentionally with well balanced flavours and textures. The highlight, the Wagyu Tartare with bulgogi dressing, pickled Singo pear and seaweed cracking amongst many others with an honorable mention, surprisingly, the leaf salad. Have to highlight the exceptional service from the staff. Attentive yet subtle, adding to the warm tranquil glow of ambience to the place. Equally great for dinner with friends or a romantic date night. Will definitely go back, and share with more friends. This place definitely has soul.
Front of house looks angry, food served were not explained (tasting menu), nice bread and dessert but the rest were mediocre at best.
Food
My wife and I both loved the truffle menu, beautiful restaurant and truly enjoyed the truffle fine dining experience. Hats off to the chefs! Will definitely recommend the place and will come back. In terms of improvements would love to see them improve on their customer service: - Not all servers explained the story and ingredients behind each meal. - The cutleries were not replaced between each meals. That said, the food definitely made up to make this a memorable lunch.
Easily one of my favorite meals here in Sydney! It was my first time dining here and was blown away by the quality and intricate flavours. Highlights for me were: signature bread, devilled egg, ox tongue donut, eggplant, short rib and makgeolli bingsu.
Perfection. You must try the rice cake if you go, its delicious and unique, youll love it!
We had an absolutely fantastic time at SOUL dining this evening. The food was delicious and the quality was excellent. We had Kim s eggplant, the signature bread, flatbread, prawn tteokbokki and they were all incredible. We only wish we had bigger stomachs to try more of the menu. The service was also impeccable. All members of staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. We would especially like to thank Francesca. The advice she gave on wines was so helpful and throughout the whole evening she went above and beyond to make our last evening on honeymoon extra special. We left the restaurant feeling very lucky to have experienced SOUL dining.
We arrived to celebrate my husband s 60th birthday and handed over a beautiful cake my daughter had brought from the south coast where she lives. The cake was boxed and she handed it to the waitress on arrival. Because we were a group we understood we had to have the set menu at $120 pp. the table also shared about $700 worth of wine. We all really enjoyed the food and service, the restaurant was very accommodating of our varied food issues. We asked for the cake after we had finished dessert and the waitress sheepishly brought the cake in its box to the table. We asked for plates and forks - she said no cake at the restaurant. The manager came over and said we should have s en the no cake policy on their website. I m afraid I do not have time to trawl a website for every chosen peccadillo. This was clearly ridiculous. The manger said he would ask the owner and the owner said ok . Well by this time we had no enthusiasm for the cake and so took it home minus our guests and go we re celebrating the birthday with us. All in all a very sad experience for my husband s 60th birthday. We won t be back Mr Manager. Btw being aloof has no place in hospitality.
Great visual and tasty food
Copy cat shtz
I miss the OG soul dining! The food wasnt as good and maaaaaaan is it expensive now! Will stick to the deli
Our friends get-together included sampling the tasting menu, which showcased a creative fusion of Korean elements. We thoroughly enjoyed the claypot rice, deviled egg, beef, tteokbokki, and rice cake. The service was smooth, and the venue provided a comfortable environment for chatting. Perfect for a delightful evening!
Food is great ! Will definitely patronise again.
Yummy Soul Food Great Service and very accommodating Communication was great and the staff was very attentive. Worth visiting and great value for money Hope their business expands
Forgot to take photos as we were devouring everything lol. The best Korean fine dining in Sydney. The Beef Short Rib and potato desserts were INSANE, and the butler for Saturday lunch was extremely gracious and attentive in his service. We will be returning!!
Express lunch menu was generous and fun! I wish I took photos of the sweet potato dessert, but I couldn t stomach the idea of waiting to eat it. Excellent experience!
Incredible value for the quality of food in the CBD. Highly recommend the short rib and clay pot! Will be back. Thanks
This eatery presents a modern fusion of Korean flavors, challenging the palate with its innovative dishes. Not every item was a hit, but the standout was undoubtedly the claypot rice with fish, a flavor explosion in each spoonful. The Wagyu steak was also well-received. Portion sizes were modest, favoring a share-style approach to sample more dishes. Service was efficient, with all plates served simultaneously for a cohesive dining experience.
Food and service was great. Sadly no more complimentary rice bread.
It is quite good Korean fusion restaurant. We ordered the set tasting menu, we love all the entrees (they are some of the traditional Korean street food but making in a fancy way). Main is slightly above average, we dont like the scallop with too much sour taste in the black rice. The beef short rib is too dry like bbq pork. And we love the Cray pot rice! Super yummy! Last but not least the dessert is a perfect ending with sweet potato sticky rice! Tasting menu SOUL signature rice bread Devilled egg Ox tongue donut Soondae Kingfish in kimchi water Scallop bori-bap Prawns tteokbokki Clay pot rice Beef short rib Hash brown fries Sweet potato sticky rice Wheelchair accessibility: Yes
Stunning venue with a luxe high end vibe perfect for a date night or special occasion. Enjoyed all the food but highlights were the signature rice bread and triple cooked octopus.
My friend recommended this Korean fine dining. I always want to try new foods, and I can say I am impressed with the food. We chose a tasting menu for 120 per person. We also add one extra clay pot of rice to share. I highly recommend the rice. Very tasty and different. The price is very reasonable, the service is really good, and the staff are friendly.
Advertised as open until 10. Refused to seat me before 9.
Its very friendly and the taste and quality of the food seems to be better than any other restaurant.
This is no joke. I m eating soup!!! Please fight for a long time~~~
Contemporary Korean restaurant right opposite Wynyard station downtown Sydney. Don t drive as they have good wine pairing options. Must go for their tasting menu (A$80-120) - roast beef ribs and Korean pot rice (extra order) are both a must. Nice relax vibe and new decor. I d be going back when I visit Sydney again. Ps sorry I missed out some of the photos as were were busy chatting. But I managed to get the roast beef ribs and the fish pot rice at least
Delicious modern take on Korean cuisine. We ordered a la carte and the menu works well for sharing. Portions slightly on the small side but everything tasted great. Particularly enjoyed the octopus which was perfectly cooked. Staff were attentive and able to explain the menu items well. Wait times for the food were very reasonable. Overall a nice experience and would visit again.
A very modern fusion twist on Korean food. It challenged the tastebuds, some dishes didnt hit the mark whilst others were a hit. The claypot rice with fish was the absolute standout - flavour bomb with every spoonful. Wagyu steak was also enjoyable. Serving sizes were okay but on the smaller side. Good to have share-style so you can try more dishes. Service ran smoothly with each of the dishes coming out together so they can be enjoyed family style.
Some of the best food you can get. If you know of a better Korean fusion restaurant, please let me know.
Superb service and food. I dined for 1, and could not fault. Thanks guys
Good option for a fancy dinner. Korean inspired. Top ingredients and friendly service.
Very creative and tasty Korean food. Services were good and environment was spacious. Recommend it!
We were a group of friends catching up for the evening, and went for the tasting menu. Dishes had elements of Korean fare infused throughout, which we found to be both creative and delicious. Menu highlights included the claypot rice, deviled egg, beef, tteokbokki and rice cake. Service was fairly smooth, and the venue was comfortable for conversation. Recommended for a nice evening out!
Amazing good, great atmosphere, extensive wine selections and seamless and warm hospitality. Couldn t fault and one of the best dining experiences this year! Can t wait to go back to try more dishes.
We had the tasting dinner menu and while the main courses amazing, the ones before were just good. Worth the price. Cocktails were average.
Love the food and ambience. Price is reasonable for the quality of the food. Everything we had was delicious - standout dishes include wine fermented rice bread with butter, ox tongue donut, prawn tteokbokki, beef short rib and spicy charcoal chicken.
The waiter at the front desk was very good at introducing the menu.
A wonderful experience at every level. Superb good, impeccable service and a wine list that is thoughtful and well priced. We will be back for sure!
Wow, what a restaurant. The food was absolutely amazing. The staff are so attentive and knowledgeable. Will definitely be going back next time we are in Sydney
For the price, its just sorry to say food is bad. The flavours are all off, the squid is overcooked, way too soft, with bland flavours. The bread entree was undercooked, with a hard centre The beef tartare was way too sweet, with too much radish:( Hash browns are inconsistent, some crunchy some soft Im just disappointed with all the hype and recommendations, came think that its greag that we have a Korean fusion fine dining in Sydney, but until they fix the food, won t come back. Especially a disappointment when all the food looks great in photos but taste bad
Celebrated my birthday at Soul Dining, one of the best decision I make. we had chef s tasting menu which we able to experience variety of flavors and dishes and we also order extra Truffle & Sea Urchin on Wagyu Pot Rice on the side. All the dishes were on point and cocktails were excellent Shout out to Jeremy( bar manager) who make our night unforgettable. Thanks you
We visited Soul for our anniversary and were blown away. Food was incredible, service was friendly and fast and the atmosphere was very cool. 10/10
definitely rate it. every dish was spectacular but i loved the wagyu tartare the most! not pictured but get the rice bread to start as well.
Phenomenal food and dining experience. All of the dishes were delicious and had unique flavours - a twist on Korean cuisine. Recommend the rice bread , octopus, prawn teokbokki, charcoal chicken and the shaved ice. Service was attentive and friendly. Vibe was classy, chic and romantic. Highly recommend for a date or get together with friends for special occasion
Amazing! I was reluctant to write a glowing review in case this place became too popular and therefore impossible to get a table. We ve been twice, and both times the food has been sensational. It s fusion Korean with bright flavours prepared by considered skilled chefs. We loved the kingfish, the octopus was the most tender I ve had from an Asian styled restaurant, the eggplant interesting with a shower of cheese, the chicken is a stand out with its glossy sticky sauce, and the desserts were stunning, especially the flan!
Soul Dining offered my first experience with fine dining Korean cuisine, and it exceeded expectations. The flavours were outstanding, introducing me to a new level of Korean culinary artistry. While the service was acceptable, I felt it could have been more attentive to truly complement the exceptional dining experience. Nevertheless, the wine list was impressive, adding to the overall enjoyment of the meal.
It was by fourth time coming here. First time after its relocation. The mock tail tasted bland. The oysters were ok. The octopus - weird. It wasn t as good as I remembered it. Not sure if I would go back again.
Soul Dining surpassed all expectations! The ambiance is charming, and the food was amazing. Each dish was beautifully presented. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable, adding to the overall exceptional dining experience. A must-visit for anyone craving a culinary journey!
Had a spectacular dinner at soul dining. Everything was perfect! Food was so flavourful and fun and the service was exceptional! Highly recommend the clay pot rice with tooth fish - delicious! Really memorable experience and would be back again!
Always good food here and great service.
When you say it s fushion It s more like an Aussie restaurant with a tiny bit of Korean favour We are all disappointed The rice cake is weird and doesn t match at all The ingredients are fresh but all wasted It s more like for those who knows nothing about Korean food and the portion is really small
Too superb! Speechless. All of the food are just great, especially the ribs and chicken noodle, beyond my imagination of korean fusion food. The meat is so juicy, perfectly cooked, the noodle cannot find elsewhere tasted like this one. Overall its a great experience, thanks to a friend who take us here.
We pre-recorded the live lobster with the tasting menu. The signature rice bread is unique and addictive, I wanted more. The devilled eggs, soondae & chilli tuna tart were enjoyable. The highlight dishes were Wagyu Tartare, Prawn Tteokbokki & Beef Short Rib. Whilst the live lobster was delicious & fresh, it was 1.1kg, slightly too big for 2 ppl sharing a tasting menu.. despite our lobster being slightly undercooked, making it a bit stringy, the Soul Butter complemented the lobster well, shame it wasnt cook perfectly. The dessert of the day tonight was Bingsu, which sadly didnt have much flavour. Great service all around. Our main waiter was shy, quiet but efficient, perhaps still in training. Jeremy (from the Bar) was great, he recommend alternatives since what I wanted was out of stock. Due to a family emergency, we were 1 hour late for our reservation. Luckily, our booking was pushed back without issue, and we still had the full dining duration without being rushed.
Nice food and amazing atmosphere. Went at lunch and got the $65 lunch special although it would have been cheaper to get the items on the ala carte menu and not with the lunch special.
Lovely and calm at lunch. Menu looked fabulous, just didnt have enough room for more. Will return for seconds.
Love the ambience, great service, super comfy in here and the food was yum! Really good. Got the degustation so we could try a bit of everything and it did not disappoint!
The flavours were amazing - very well thought out and brought out the best of each ingredient. Eggplant and short rib were my favourite, but everything we ordered was on point. The service was a bit more than I m used to, but friendly. The only issue we had was the smaller portion size! They did decked out the place with beautiful lighting and furniture which might explain the price tag. Just be prepared to order more than you would usually.
Date night with my miss, first time over here, everything was outstanding! Food, service and atmosphere, special thank to our Brazilian waitress Fernanda, very professional and one of the best customer service I have seen in a while (I m a the GM of a renowned restaurant in Sydney). I ll definitely return!
Is a Korean fusion , food delicious. Like the entree
$320 spent for 2, portions are tiny and still hardly satisfying. The food is pretty mediocre. could get a similar experience at most other restaurants for like 1/4th the price. FIne dining is a once in a lifetime experience you go once and never come back.
Overpriced for the tiny portions
Service 5/5 with detailed introduction of each dish, really creative mix of Korean style dishes. Great atmosphere. Will be back soon!
Some of the most interesting food I ve had in Sydney in a while. Great Korean flavours with a variety of dishes. Drinks were a bit slow to arrive at times and the next booking meant we had to wrap up a bit quickly, but would definitely return to try the rest of the menu.
Food was good but be aware of the portions because they are small.
This is the best restaurant in Sydney. There are chefs who love cooking and an excellent wine list. Usually, a course meal of the level served here costs more than $180 at other places. They offer high standard courses at very economical prices. Very highly recommended.
Very good service and a place that makes you feel like youre at a good restaurant in New York. Korean fusion cuisine cooked by Koreans. Very highly regarded. suggestion
Good good Food : 5/5
This place is so nice!!! All of the menu was so perfect and the atmosphere was gorgeous!! Staffs were perfectly friendly and kindly to costumers and everything was all good!! Also, the wine list perfectly attractive to us!! I ll definitely visit again here!!!
I was a bit worried after reading some reviews, but it turned out to be the best course meal Ive had recently. There is Korean fusion cuisine, and each dish felt carefully crafted. The ingredients harmonized perfectly, making me happy throughout the meal. Specially I love the bread that I ate first! And the bartender recommended special desert wine, it was assume! And the young Korean female manager(Not sure, but she work professional) had a great sense, adding to the pleasant experience. She continuously looked after guests, handling things professionally. We can understand and enjoy the food because she briefly explained each of the dishes. It feels like we received service beyond what we paid for. Unfortunately, I couldnt know her name, and Im grateful for making my trip special!
Beautiful fusion of Korean cuisine and Australian ingredients
The atmosphere is so classy and all the food is delicious! I plan to come again later with my parents.
The meat and octopus are so soft that I think I could eat them even without my wisdom teeth. The ingredients are familiar to all dishes, but it tastes delicious for the first time, and the atmosphere is luxurious, so if you go on your anniversary, youll be able to succeed in anything! It was an evening where I felt like I had to work hard to make money.
As the restaurant moved to the city, I thought the food would taste the same but so much disappointed that the taste changed
Goof atmosphere The tasting menu is okay The hold fee is bit funny Food : 4/5
The new location is fantastic! The food was amazing! We had to get two servings of the rice bread because it was just that good. We also really enjoyed the sweet potato dessert. The kimchi was a surprising finish ! Service and atmosphere was also excellent, not pretentious but quick and professional.
Not sure what the hype is about. I m Korean American and I seek out Korean contemporary fusion restaurants. I ve been to a lot of great places in NY and LA and was excited to see one in Sydney. I had the tuna carpaccio and it was so drenched in sauce and the flavors were so overpowering that you forget that there s tuna in there. I then tried the octopus and it was slightly undercooked. The fish was overall bland even with the chili sauce and squid ink aioli. No matter how much to get the flavor onto the squid, it didn t blend. I ended up not finishing it. I d skip this restaurant and go for the authentic Korean food instead.
Oooft they have definitely upped their game since moving from Surry Hills to Wynyard. Nice fitting, no more darkness Food is amazing too, can t fault any of the dishes we had. The Toothfish claypot rice was Be aware sparking water cost $18/bottle
Everyone I speak to about this place says you have to check it out. They were not wrong! Great food, drinks and service.
Blown away by the tooth fish dish. Creative menu and excellent service.
Visited this place when they had their old menu and recently when they changed a few things. I much preferred they re previous menu with the burrata, prawn bisque tteokbokki and the sweet pastry dessert. Still enjoyed SOME of the food this time around though. Would say that the dessert was disappointing and the Short rib was too chewy.
The food and service is ALL CLASS.
Very good food good service, excellent value
Having come here for the second time, I can confidently say that there was a significant contrast from my previous visit. On this occasion, we opted for the set menu, but unfortunately, we were not pleased with our overall experience. While the food was delicious, and the service was exceptional, we felt let down by the portions, which did not seem worth the price we paid. If you plan on visiting this place, I recommend choosing the à la carte menu.
The people saying this is the best restaurant in Sydney are out of their mind. The food is relatively tasty but severely overpriced. The wine I had was marked up by around 175% from retail, and the staff were being unfairly coached on the floor in front of guests. 3 stars is more than the restaurant deserves.
Friendly service and a great fine dining experience that won t break the bank.
This just wasn t my cup of tea, snails and octopus and raw mince is just outside my comfort zone . The waiter didn t explain what was in the set menu and quickly took the menus away . Don t go if you want traditional Korean dining this ain t it . And then we went to pay the manager was telling me that there is another restaurant similar to this opening in the city - like I could not care less he saw that I didn t really touch the food. That was bizarre
Really enjoyed the tasting menu with the add on beef. My fav was the korean style bread at starter, kingfish, eggplant, octopus, pear mocktail and the beef! Wasnt a fan of the korean style oysters. The dessert seemed average; tasted like your usual Lebanese sweets. A small candle or mood light on the table would have made the ambience perfect. Portions could be bigger or they could add 1 dish to the menu. All staff were lovely. I would definitely recommend.
Exceptional dinng experience in Surry Hill thanks to Mark s warm hospitality and the creative cuisine. Loved it and highly recommend.
I have been to several modern Korean restaurants, which are popular both in Korea and Australia. I tried this restaurant because they recommended a tasting menu. I dont know the style of this restaurant, so its worth eating, but personally, if youre going to come to this restaurant, I recommend eating a la carte. The taste and overall balance of flavors were very good and interesting, and the overall menu felt like a lot of time and care had been put into the food. Highly recommended just for the taste and quality of the food. However, the menu served at this restaurant felt more like a snack than a meal. The tasting menu itself felt more like a snack menu with drinks to go with it rather than a meal. For those of us who dont normally enjoy alcohol, it wasnt a good option. Although it is a restaurant, I think the menu is more like a dining bar than a restaurant where you come to eat. If I had known sooner, I would have chosen a different place. Still, I don t regret it because it s a place I wanted to experience at least once. Of course, eating Korean food means you need some carbohydrates, but there was no rice or flour, so I looked for it on the individual menu, but I couldnt find it. As a Korean at heart, this is a huge disappointment. At the modern Korean dining bar Ive been to, there were a lot of menus that were served as snacks, like this one, and of course, there were menus that tasted like liquor soup. Other than that, I feel very disappointed that most places where you eat modern Korean food only serve at least a little bit of noodles or rice at the end..... When I go to a Japanese or Korean restaurant, I always order ade with yuzu in it, but it was the worst yuzu Ive had in Sydney. Maybe its because its made with yuzu jam... It feels like some kind of aged yuzu ade. The service wasnt great, the staff moving between small tables the whole time I was eating. I felt a little uncomfortable because he kept touching my cup and water bottle with his butt. I also ordered sparkling water, but it was inconvenient because it wasnt refilled right away even after I finished drinking it. The store is not large, but it didnt seem like there was a lack of staff, but there were a lot of things that were disappointing while the service was being provided. When I first ordered the tasting menu, I misunderstood that I could upgrade to ribs instead of chicken. I said I wanted to eat both, and they said I could eat both, so they asked me to do so. (I was confused at first whether there would be an additional charge or if one was added as an individual menu, but it was disappointing that there was no explanation from the staff.) It was determined that an a la carte order was included as an extra menu order. After talking with my group, it seemed like the portion was too much, so I asked them to remove the extra order and order ribs instead of chicken. I dont know why, but I felt the staff was very uncomfortable, and we had no choice if our request was not accepted. I was thinking that I could just do it as ordered without it. I felt the employee was uncomfortable and felt unprofessional. * As for alcohol, Korean alcohol is more expensive than Australian alcohol. The price range is the opposite of regular casual dining, but I think it would be nice to have a variety of beers that are popular in Korea these days. There was also Tuesday 25, but I dont know the price of the others. If you think about selling Korean dining, it feels cheaper than you think.
This restaurant is so amazing!!!! I d definitely love to come back again and also go to other soul restaurant have a try! The rice bread was free and be served as first meal, that s my no.1! Sweet rice taste with the salty cream butter SO GOOD Wagyu Tartare is also highly recommend! The flavor is very unique and everything matches so well! Corn riblets/poppers/teokbokki were okay, but not necessary have to order, I believe there has more good and deserve meal on the menu SO EXCITED to visit Soul Dining again!
Tasty! I would recommend the kingfish in Kimchi Water.
Very warm dining spot. We definitely over ordered for 2. Everything was okay nothing exceptional. Most dishes were on the sweeter side. The Beef Short Rib was a let down since it was so dry and chewy. Good to experience once but won t come back for it.
Amazing food and service! Very sophisticated and modern flavours of Korean cuisine. Will not hesitate to return:)
Food was great but tiny portions and ridiculously overpriced! Long delays in food and forced friendliness in service
Each food was so creative and tasty! This is the best restaurant in Sydney We enjoyed it a lot. Food : 5/5
Interesting fusion Korean. Had the tasting menu and seasonal truffle. Traditional Korean ingredients are used. Fun to end with Makgeolli (rice wine) bingsu. Overall good experience.
We had a very good meal here. The tasting menu looks extensive, so we just shared a few of those, which turned out to be more than enough. The food is a very respectful version of fusion; you can still taste the Korean flavours but slightly different and very modern presentation. Prices were also quite good for the quality and amount of food.
This is one sensational restaurant! Wonderful, innovative food in a relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere. Terrific wine list. Delightful and knowledgeable staff. Highly recommended but please dont take our next reservation! We will most certainly be back Parking: I suggest you take public transport, the tram is that the doorstep
Probably my favourite restaurant in Sydney so far. Every dish was outstanding and cooked to perfection. Service was also amazing. Will go here again and again.
Came here 3 times in a month to try out every item on the menu. One of the most interesting and genuinely exciting menus in Sydney. The rice cake entree and cocktails were amongst many standouts
Perfect spot for a drink and some small dishes
Amazing experience! Great take on modern Korean cuisine. Perfect date night spot. We got the tasting menu which was appropriately arranged so that we could sample all their top dishes. For drinks we had a few cocktails - melona, sesame sour, samanco and the truffle popcorn martini - all were delicious! Would definitely recommend
Impeccable food and service
Thanks Mark and team for the brilliant service and amazing food highly recommend.
Thé food here is so good I can t stop talking about it with people. The service is sharp and you re enveloped with warmth and comfort by the staff, the cooking and technique is world class, and the flavours take you away onto a dreamy adventure. Very healthy food (apart from the dessert of course), and so delicious you wonder why you have waited this long before your first visit. The rice bread/cake was such a powerful start and a great alternative to the boring breads you get at most if not all restaurants.
Great lunch, interesting and delicious food!
We loved having our board of directors come together for dinner here. Quiet enough to talk, food distributed over 3 hours, great atmosphere. Vegetarian options: We got personal items for our special dietary restrictions. Dietary restrictions: Vegetarian, no shellfish
We had a wonderful experience here for a birthday dinner. The food was delicious, the ambience pleasant and the service top-notch. Mark in particular was very communicative, easy to deal with and accommodating of my dietary requirements which I really appreciated. Cant recommend SOUL enough!
Fabulously executed tasting menu that quite literally, just kept on coming Knowledgable service and well priced food & drinks make Soul Dining a new go to. I love my chilli at blow my mind levels but the understated balance in the flavours and textures on offer, was sublime! Food : 5/5
Every dish was beautifully put together. So many great dishes on the menu. The service was fantastic, we look forward to coming back soon. Definitely dont miss Kims Eggplant and the Octopus! Food
Price range: 60-120 (ala carte vs tasing menu) Quality/taste: 8/10 Value for money: Satisfied for price range Overall rating: 8.5/10 Korean fusion, defined. Visited on a weeknight with some friends, including a 2 year old toddler. First off, kudos to the staff for being accomodating where possible, both in dietary requirements and for my friends toddler. We went with the tasting menu, and were offered the option of upgrading a portion of our mains to the beef - best decision for the night as the beef was stunning. Most of the other dishes were light, creative, and down right tasty, with a fusiony twist (a handful fell victim to the fusion game, erring on creativity rather than pragmatism). If planning a visit, do yourself a favour and grab the beef main. Thanks to the team for an excellent evening!
Amazing food, great service and fantastic ambiance.
Amazing dining experience. 10/10
Without doubt & by far the best restaurant I ve ever been to. Food was exquisite, staff were amazing, words can t explain how good this place is. Must be experienced to be believed.
Was there and wanted to leave a bad review, but was called by the restaurant to not to do so. I have been to plenty of Michelin restaurants in my life and this is not one of them that s worth it.
Wow! New location and fitout is very classy and the food was even more incredible than before. The wine recommendation from the sommelier was so good and well paired that it worked with every single dish! The team have upped their game which is a very tough thing to do with already such high food, drinks and service standards.
Based on reviews, we decided to try this new place. The word disappointment doesnt suffice to describe our experience. There was a significant delay before we received our entrees. The same applied to the main course, except for the spicy chicken others were bland. The new appearance of the place doesnt excuse how disappointing the food was.
We went in for lunch thinking its a new restaurant and we wanted to try something different. Their website reviews appeared to be very positive, suggesting that it was an excellent lunch option. Firstly we had to call someone to come take our order, and despite confirming the order twice, we didnt receive one drink until we informed them. Before being served a drink, my friend was asked to show her ID, which got passed around to four ground staff members. They recognized the inconvenience they had caused her and offered her a complimentary drink as an apology. The food took about 1.5 hours to be served only when we asked how long it would take. The prawn dish had no taste nor could we taste any sort of seasoning.
Went here for a birthday lunch after reading good reviews. Service was poor, people did not seem to know the dishes and constantly dropped cutlery on the table / in dishes. The food was disappointing, we had the set menu and opted to add in the chilli tuna tart (which was the only really great dish). Other than the donut, other dishes were average, whilst the mains were poor. We had to choose the final dessert after we were told they had run out of the normal set menu dessert. I had the green grape sorbet, it is genuinely one of the worst things I have been served.
Dec 2023: just took our team here for Christmas lunch & loved everything about their new space. Smart interiors & really great location next to Wynyard train station. Food was top notch as always and the Sesame Sour blew our minds. Great wine list & food that fit this hot weather perfectly. This place is excellent for vegetarians too. Can t wait to go back! One of our favourite restaurants in Surry Hills. Korean flavours here feel authentic and accessible at the same time. Our party of 4 chose the vegetarian menu and loved every course. Service is attentive and staff are very knowledgable about wine pairings which is great. Well keep coming back! Vegetarian options: Great vegetarian/vegan options
The new location is very convenient, being right next to Wynyard station. The food was interesting take on Korean flavours, Id go back to eat the prawn tteokbokki and the rice bread.
Since they switched locations, prices have changed a bit, quantities have been smaller and generally doesnt taste as good as before. Rice bread is no longer complementary with a la carte menu. Massively disappointed.
The best octopus I have ever tasted in my life. Kind staffs as well.
Great restaurant. Beautiful service. Delicious food! Beef short ribs, pork cutlet, kingfish sashimi soooo good.
Cant rate the experience highly enough! Excellent food, bold and intricate! Incredible service in a beautiful and ambient fitout.
I rate SOUL Dining. Without going into it, I grew up in Eastwood eating a lot of korean food, sadly once you hit higher cost fine dining sphere- those flavours and influences seem to be lacking. SOUL dining revives that korean influence in a way that I really enjoyed. Take for example the first dish of the set menu, the rice bread was delicious with a clean and deep rice flavour with a natural subtle sweetness (probably hydrolysed starch into sugars). The texture was fluffy but firm enough to have some presence. The bite was almost a mix between chinese bao and a fluffy mochi, very satisfying indeed. I appreciate that they bring their own creations of culinary design. I came here for a journey of flavours and textures that was distinguished from japanese fusion and I left happy. Wine pairing was fire.
I went with a group of seven for dinner and had some amazing food. The service was great as was the variety of food we were provided. Being a decent sized group we got to try a bit of everything! I cannot fault this place and will be going back again , especially with the cracking fit out they have! Thank you, One to visit for sure.
A thoroughly enjoyable experience!! Well done SOUL Dining Food
Food was amazing! I wish the serving was bigger though.
It was a pleasure to dine at Soul Dining earlier this week. I am a big fan of their other venues, and dinner in the new location did not disappoint. The food was delicious. The kingfish in kimchi water, the short rib, and the rice flour donut (?) desert were a highlight for me. The venue is spacious and gives a sense of privacy. The service was well paced and attentive. I had a great time with my friends and will be returning with my wife :)
New location; same impeccable taste, presentation, and service. Mentioned in the booking notes that I was a pescatarian, and received a printed pescatarian a la carte and tasting menu which was a nice touch that I rarely see done elsewhere. As someone who always opts out of dessert, do not skip dessert here.
