food is good, said they have a place for 2 and not 7, waited for the other waiter, and she said sorry were fully booked. we get that its late (they said it closes at 11 PM, its 9 PM), but they should be straightforward if they wanna close, not tell us they have a seat for 2 and that were fully booked afterwards

We asked the guy at the front, any table available with booking, he didnt understand what we were saying as typically. and didnt say anything, just pointed table with irritated face. what a rude. There are so many amazing restaurants around. I dont want to spend money on this restaurant. we had a nice time from another restaurant.

The rudest front of house. Lady in blue hair was just being so rude to us. Be direct if you are closed. Dont give us bullshit like sorry we cant serve x amount of people, sorry we cant split tables, sorry we cant do takeaway, sorry we only have 30 minutes you wont be able to etc etc. Disgusting FOH train your staff.

I have dined here before and food was fabulous. I booked again and ended up stuck in another city due to a flight cancellation. I left a message then later rang again to make sure the cancellation was received. Staff response was rude, cancellation fee of $200, no thanks for ringing and letting them know, just bad attitude. Super disappointing. Shame.

The food was nice but cant say amazing. I definitely think they need to clean a bit better. The timber divider at the side of the booth was grubby and at the end of the night we saw a cockroach crawling on it. Would not go back or recommend.

As a city local i have visited Esteban so many times since they opened, I have recommended them to several friends even though they have lost quality in their food through the years, it is not as shocking to see as their decline in customer service which is now non existent. Pretentious, condescending and rude front of house staff. This was my last time coming to Esteban.

Cocktails are good.

Every mouthful was delicious. We had every cold entree ENTRANTES and all seafood plus vegetarian MEDIO TIEMPO - at the end, I simply couldn t choose a favourite dish. Bar seating fantastic. Highly recommend!

The set menu was great! there was also a vegetarian set menu which was refreshing to hear. Loved the mushroom tostadas, the tuna ceviche in blood orange sauce and salmon taco. The pork belly was delicious and so was the lamb shoulder. Margaritas were also DELICIOUS! went down so smoothly! The best part tho - the amazing milk cake with coffee and kaffir lime ice cream! The ambience and service was great too!

Was very impressed by their dishes that were cooked and prepared to a great standard. Came in for the pre-theatre special. I really enjoyed the food at Esteban and the wonderful combination of flavours and textures. The Esteban Potatoes was one of the best potato dishes I ever had!

Great for celiacs / coeliacs as almost everything on the menu is naturally gluten free, and the Bar seating is very comfortable and spacious to eat dinner as a couple. Dietary restrictions: Great place for celiac/coeliac dining.

Went here for happy hour tacos & margaritas as a birthday date with my wife. We loved it! Great location, wonderful ambiance, staff were all 10/10, tacos & margs were delightful. Endless tequila selection. The most notable bites were the Taco al Paster & the steak tartare tacos. Simply magnificent! Can t wait to return

I wasn t going to leave a review but I became really sick after eating their food. Saw a cook touch raw meat, not wash their hands, and then precede to touch vegetables and other items behind the counter. Food was good but I regret eating it. Gave chef feedback and he was open to it. Our meal was also extremely expensive given the above circumstances.

We had a really great experience at this past Friday evening. We were running slightly late, but the Esteban crew couldn t have been more accommodating. The fit out and vibe of the restaurant is really lovely, it has a cozy, underground speakeasy feel without being dark, and it felt intimate despite being packed. Everything that we ordered was phenomenal, but the fire roasted calamari (fried capers are a revelation), bean dip, and steak tartare tacos were stand outs. The soft tortillas were the best we ve ever had! The staff looking after us went above and beyond, could not have been more attentive and we were so thankful for the kind service. I was especially thrilled with the dirty martinis

Fabulous! Came here to try some Mexican food and it did not disappoint. Our waitress was wonderful, friendly and gave excellent recommendations! (the brussel sprouts and prawn tacos were stunning) We were seated at the bar, had some small plates, and enjoyed the vibe. I will definitely be back for more!

This place is a hidden gem! The quality of the ingredients is outstanding, and you can really taste the care in each dish. Our server went above and beyond to make sure we had an amazing evening. We ll definitely be back!

It was a two story indoor restaurant but there were some alfresco seat just outside the main entrance. We came there at around 6:30pm on Sunday with no booking. We took an alfresco seat and ordered some taco and main dishes. Food quality was good. The steak in medium rare was tender and tasty. The chicken was also good. The bar seems vegetarian friendly. One of my friend was a vegetarian and he ordered a roasted pumpkin and a mushrooms taco. He liked the dishes also. The bar seemed to made good tequila but we ordered just some beers and lemonade. The staffs were helpful, friendly and funny. The meal costed us around AUD 75 per pax. They accept cash and credit card just like other pub in the region. Vegetarian options: Mushrooms taco, coffee roasted pumpkin

Went solo as was recommended by my brother. I booked a seat at the bar, which was a great choice. The Margaritas were sensationally and food excellent. Service was top notch and would happily revisit.

This place is my favorite margarita (thanks to the bar man) ever but the manager with blue hair is a little very rude. So I always bring my people here but today she really ruin my bday. Hopefully next time she will be more happier.

Great service from Oli yesterday! The interior and the low light are definitely something that attracts me on restaurants, I am always a big fan of this cozy ambiance. The food feels a bit overpriced if I am looking at price, portion and flavor and in comparison to other Mexican restaurants that I have been. The juiciness on the chicken was on something to highlight though and the black bean dip also an interesting combination.

Lots of hype about this place but unfortunately it fell short. By far the best was the taco el pastor, everything else is horrendously overpriced and not that great tbh. Service was slow, several mistakes and still expected a tip. Overall not good value especially for Mexican food, we wont be back.

I was absolutely delighted to spend my evening at Esteban. This hidden gem in the centre of Sydney has amazing cocktails, great staff and delicious food. Perfect for a date night or dinner between friends. Our dishes were on point and simply delicious!

Great atmosphere, accompanied by great food and service. Ordered the feed me option with a few cocktails and wasnt disappointed with a single item. Salmon tacos, lamb, and mushroom tostada were highlights.

Food was terrible. I can cook better. Prawns were chewy. Tortillas had the texture of cardboard with zero taste, the pork belly was awful cooked fine but had no taste or seasoning at all, the only thing that was good was the bean dip and chips. Wont be going back here again.

Atmosphere is lovely and cosy, and one of the staff was absolutely fantastic. Food is nice yet overpriced (yellowfin ceviche really is only 3 slices of tuna, for $29), and I wouldnt say quality matches with pricing. I felt a little pushed by one of the waitresses to order more and they charged us more than what wed actually ordered.

I loved everything about this place. The top favorite of ours was prawn taco & the whole fish, but overall everything was sooo delish. Not forgot to mention, the waitress Sara was a top notch. She was so professional & helpfull on choosing the menu. Really loved this place! Cant wait to bring more friends here to try this out!

Such an amazing experience tonight at Esteban. Eddie was our server and he was wonderful and is such an asset to this restaurant. The food was incredible. We had the black bean dip, prawn taco, lamb, Brussel sprouts, potatoes, chocolate mousse and tre leche. Will definitely be back and will recommend this place highly to our friends!

Lovely food, interesting flavours and conbinations of ingredients. The decor was beautiful and the staff were lovely. A lovely experience and Ill be going back.

Absolutely delicious food mostly cooked on woodfire. The place is not huge but it s a cosy old charm atmosphere over two levels. The only negative is that they seemed to rush the food out with multiple dishes arriving at once, possibly due to the fact that each sitting is meant to be 1.5 hours only. Given it s not a cheap restaurant it d be nice if you could spend a few hours and not feel rushed. Kid-friendliness: At the price point and the atmosphere it s not really a place for kids.

Exceptional food - especially the grilled Brussels(!) and chocolate chilli ice cream. Highly recommended. The only downer was one rather aloof waiter at the door, but rest of the staff were great.

Fantastic food, one of the best meals Ive had in a while. We also had two bottles of wine and both were spot on.

Best Mexican restaurant !!

Esteban quickly has become one of my favourite go to spots in Sydney... not only is the food, service and whole vibe of the restaurant amazing but as someone who struggles to find decent Gluten Free food, this place is a god send with most of the menu being GF... also the cocktail game is next level. Highly recommend

I was nervous as we arrived, heading downstairs, it looked noisy and cramped, we had 4 men and a lady...cramped into a booth....but it was one of the best meals I have had recently. Whilst noisy, we could clearly communicate, the staff were friendly and helpful and the cocktails came quickly (bonus points in my eyes). We did a chefs menu and the first taco was salmon and OMG it was next level good....I was super impressed with the evening (we took a client out) and my first impression of it being a big gritty was overwhelmingly crushed as the evening went on and it get better and better...I only gave it 4 stars for ambience because I always think restaurants could improve the noise levels to make it more pleasant for the patrons (but I am in my late 40s, so just call me old). I would 100% recommend this restaurant to my bestie!

The tacos at Esteban were disappointing. The pork tacos were dry and seemed reheated, while the sweet potato tacos lacked flavour. The fish and steak tacos were smothered in a citrus mayo that was overpowering. Overall, the tacos were not worth the price.

Fantastic Mexican in an awesome multi-level restaurant. Walk into a groovy layout. We sat downstairs at bar seating. The house margaritas are amazing, and followed up with a dark beer. We had a couple of different tacos and desert. Had a really nice meal.

The experience was not good at all. We arrived at the restaurant and chose to sit at one of the outside tables since it was a lovely evening. However, as soon as we sat down, we were overwhelmed by a nauseating smell of urine. The place was full, so we couldn t move to another table. We ordered a starter and two main courses. They brought us the starter, but the main courses never arrived. We spoke to the waiter, who assured us the food would be brought out immediately, but that never happened. After waiting for 30 minutes with no sign of our food, we decided to leave. You go out expecting to have a good time, with service and food that matches the price, but unfortunately, this wasn t the case. Sadly, this was the first and last time we will visit Esteban Restaurant. I do not recommend it at all.

Esteban has a great subterranean atmosphere with a cozy décor. The food is varied and very imaginative for Mexican food and every thing we selected was absolutely delicious. Francesca was very friendly and did a fabulous job navigating us through the menu options and dishes. The restaurant is a little hard to find but worth the effort. I would definitely recommend a visit.

One of the most delicious takes on Mexican we have had. Loved the corn chips and bean dip, the Brussels sprouts were the best we have ever had, and the steak was cooked perfectly. I could eat the Pina Colada dessert for the rest of my life. The server was also so kind and provided amazing recommendations!

I wanted to eat a course meal, but it was a shame that I couldnt eat it because there was a minimum of 2 people. I ordered steak, tacos, and cocktails. It came out to $130. The tacos were really delicious, and the steak was medium and it was delicious. The staff were friendly and asked if I needed anything every time I passed by. One thing that was disappointing was that although the interior and atmosphere of the restaurant were really nice (as expected from a Mexican restaurant), it was a bit uncomfortable to eat because the protruding part of the table hurt. If I get a chance, I want to go again.

I went to Esteban last weekend for the first time and I will definitely be back. The atmosphere was perfect and Eloyn made us feel right at home and shared so much knowledge about the Mezcals we were drinking. We arrived too late (quite close to closing time) to experience the food but that is another reason to go back. If the food was anything like the drinks and the experience it will be fantastic.

This place.is one of the best restaurants on Sydney not only for its food but also ambiance and service.

I was served by a female waitress who was a master of everything served in that restaurant. Generally waiters dont connect with customers beyond the courtesy. This waitress went above and beyond to make teams dinner experience the best we could imagine. I couldnt get her name unfortunately.

Great place with lots of delicious options and a great atmosphere. The staff were really friendly and the lighting was so cool! I really enjoyed the food although it is quite expensive! You can tell the high quality ingredients so that makes up for the price, would definitely go back!

My experience was fantastic, thanks to the excellent service, especially from waiter Santiago. He provided the best recommendations and was incredibly knowledgeable about the food. My partner and I had an incredible time here celebrating my birthday. Every dish on the set menu was to die for and definitely worth the price. All the staff were absolutely lovely, especially the girl who served us, who I wish we had gotten the name of. I Definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for great food, service and drinks.

Really wanted to like the food. The seasoning was nice! Perhaps it s more personal preference but the pork belly was 90% fat. I m often eating pork belly but have truly not encountered a restaurant that had a cut this fatty. I finished 2 out of 4 slices and just got the bill because I couldn t stomach it.

I would give this place kore than 5 stars if i could! OMG what a beautiful experience literally everything was perfect. The vibe the service the staff the food and cocktails. Couldn t ask for a better dinner date here This food is what you get served in heaven hahahah absolutely beautiful. We got 2 tasting menus for 105$ each and EVERYTHING was delicious. Personally I didn t like the lamb shoulder as much but also by then i was soooo full cos the portions are very generous. Overall an amazing experience. Bravo Esteban we will be back with more friends hahha

It was my first time and we chose the premium set menu and I was a little sceptical but the food was amazing. The staff was so helpful and kind. Santiago was in charge of our table and he deserve 5 stars, patience because we arent easy customers.

Drinks were amazing, although the food we had in the lunch period was nice I dont think the price justifies it. Example, 2 small tacos here easily equates to a large pizza with quality toppings or decent toppings in generous amounts. I may come back for a drink or 2 but that is about it.. Food

We booked the restaurant for a family meal, the food was excellent and so was the service as part of a round the world trip, this would have to be up there with one of the best restaurants we ate in in fact the only down side was the noise level where is was so loud you could hardly hear a thing! But that apart would definitely recommend this restaurant.

The food here was outstanding, and I really appreciate the option to order just one taco if youre trying multiple dishes. The Wagyu was bursting with incredible flavors. Plus, they offer a fantastic selection of tequila.

Delightful little place in the heart of the city. You lose all concept of time making it perfect for a slow long lunch. Our Tequilier who went by the name of Santiago was super helpful and knowledgeable on all things Tequila. Apparently studied ongoing for seven years. Tequila is actually complex and tasty ranging from $14 to $396 per shot. We stayed in the $30 price range and can recommend the ones see photos. The spicy margarita was also pretty special. The food was amazing we tried a bit of everything. Prawn Tacos as you would expect Pork Belly Tacos were amazing Tuna was fresh and delightful The Lamb was cooked to perfection falling off the bone Steak was also a great choice Potatoes and Brussel sprouts are exceptional. The chocolate dessert and the sorbet were a great sharing finisher. Service was fabulous. Thanks for a great afternoon.

The atmosphere is great. The service was excellent. The team were fun and friendly and accommodating. But the best thing is the food. Oh my what a spectacular experience. Highly recommend the set menu with the beef. I eat out a lot and it s rare for me to give a review like this but they throughly deserve it. Enjoy.

Fell ill with Infuenza A after making reservation. Asked to move appointment by 4 days but said I may not still be well enough. Was charged $100 cancellation and was told I could use as credit. After my husband also fell sick we couldn t make the new day either. I called to ask to move the date again as we didn t want to be contagious to other patrons. Was told I would get charged another $100 and lose the original credit. So $200 for not even stepping foot in the restaurant! Showed no compassion or flexibility, and when I said would you rather we come in with the flu he said that was our choice. So despite the website saying they don t like to charge they clearly do. Even when you are just booked at bar stools. Horrible service.

This place is always on my saved list and finally I got to try out their pre-theatre menu today. My friend and I came at 5 something and we were placed at the bar seating as the place was almost fully booked. Servers and bartenders seemed well trained and professional at service. We were presented with the pre-theatre menu with a brief introduction. The bartender gave us a good recommendation for cocktail, which had the fruity punch in it, and it was unsurprisingly good and my friend loved it. The pre-theatre menu cost $65pp, with yellowfin tuna tartae as entree, and we loved every bit of it. It was perfectly complemented with salsa macha, pickled garlic and crispy potato. We were presented with prawn taco as the second course, with tomatillo, salsa Mexicana and handmade corn tortilla as a combination. We enjoyed it as we found the prawns fresh and well prepared. Our main course was the butcher s choice steak, which was my favorite as it was cooked to perfection in medium rare, very juicy and flavorful with black garlic and chipotle butter, which left me hanging for more. We had Esteban s potatoes that came with the steak, which was an additional delight. The smoked kipflers were cooked to perfection with crispy ends and well complemented with roasted jalapeño crema sauce. Overall I enjoyed the dining experience here. They had great ambience with nice music. Service was attentive and couldn t be faulted with. Keep up the good work!

What a wonderful way to spend our 25th wedding anniversary, we were seated at the bar and Eloy (Bar Manager) was amazing and very attentive. His knowledge on mezcal made for a special night. Only disappointment, they ran out of chocolate dessert all the food was awesome as well. Well done to the whole Esteban team.

Definitely one of the best places to visit. From the food and drinks to the service and atmosphere, this place certainly rates high in the books. The food was devine and was only surpassed by the wide selection of tequila and mezcal which is by far a stand out. Of course this was all brought together by the amazing service and friendly staff. Absolutely fantastic food (the salmon ceviche tacos and the tres leches cake were the standouts), delicious cocktails, wonderful moody ambience, and a friendly, knowledgeable, attentive waitress. Will 200% be back. :)

Enjoyed a dinner outing with friends. The staff was so friendly, even though it was nearly closing time. Both the food and drinks were great. It was a lovely night overall.

My girlfriends and I grabbed a few cocktails and share plates before seeing the Chelsea Handler show. Great ambiance. Service was outstanding; the menu was described to us very well and our waitress was attentive. Food delicious; my fav was the crispy pork taco and brussel sprouts. And only a block to walk to the State Theatre. A hidden gem!

Esteban is one of Sydney s finest Mexican restaurants. The food is fantastic and service impeccable. For those tequila and Mezcal connoisseurs or those looking for a warm introduction into the world of fine tequila and Mezcal, do yourself a favour and book a seat at the bar. The friendly bar manager Elowyn will take you on an incredible journey through Mexico s finest drops. Salud!

Wonderful staff, Atmosphere, food and drinks! Lots of dairy free meals and options for vegetarians. The tacos and the calamari were incredible!! Also we tried their cocktail of the month, very delicious (and nice and strong). Theyre also open late which was perfect. Vegetarian options: Plenty of veggie meals, seasonal veggie plate, roasted pumpkin etc. Dietary restrictions: Many GF and DF options.

Had an early dinner on a Monday night but it was still really packed. The decor and the vibes are perfect for a girls night out and dates. Ordered the salmon ceviche taco, sautéed vongole, butcher s choice steak (market price), brussels sprouts and pina colada dessert. Everything was really good except that the clams were a bit bland. Loved the flavourful and tangy salmon ceviche taco, super tender and juicy steak and refreshing coconut mousse and pineapple sorbet. Just a suggestion though, it would be great if the price of the steak is clearly stated on the menu as it costed an eye watering $96. Still a little too pricey for that portion even though the flavours were great and perfectly cooked to medium rare.

First time at Esteban last night and my gosh it was wonderful. The food is simple but delicious. The tartare taco was to die for. The cocktails superb and atmosphere very cool. Small and intimate , dark and cosy. Our waitress Sarah was honestly delightful. Sarah was attentive, polite, friendly and knowledgeable.thank you for creating such a beautiful energy Sarah! Would absolutely recommend Esteban.

Recommended by my brother, and it didnt disappoint. On this visit we only had drinks, no food. However, we will return for a meal, and more of those amazing margaritas!

The gourmet is incredibly tasty. Their dishes are full of layers; once in your mouth, you can feel the rich and balanced flavors being released layer by layer.

I was very disappointed with the 1-hour set menu that I booked at Esteban. The service was very rushed, and the steak was clearly pre-made for the set menu orders as when it was served on our table, the steak was very cold and chewy. They are also very strict with the hours they allow you to stay there. We got the payment machine right into our face whilst we were still eating as our 1 hour had finished. What they did was very unprofessional specially for the price they charge.

Found out that apparently happy hour is only available for outside seating. We ordered the lamb shank and esteban potatoes, and they were amazing.Pleasant experience overall and the atmosphere was very nice. The lamb shank was very well done. Best Ive ever had.

Great interior with active and friendly staff. Ordered a twice cooked pork belly for a main and choc mousse for dessert. The dessert was well presented and was very rich while the pork belly was one of the best I ever had. Would eat here again.

Had an amazing time at esteban, the tacos were my highlight of the meal and that was only the beginning. Each dish we tried had a balance of spice and flavour. The extensive Tequila and Mezcal list was almost overwhelming but they broke it down into the tasting flights which were a treat. I really enjoyed their signature cocktails as well as their classic Margheritas. The staff were busy but very attentive, we sat next to the kitchen and it was quite the show to see everything in action. The candlelight and toasty fires of the kitchen really added to the atmosphere and the overall experience was perfect. Cheers!
