The food was great quality and servings were plenty very tasty. Very tender octopus and duck was on my top ten. We were surprised this beautiful restaurant had a rating of 4.3 it deserved 5* until we dealt with management and their dismissive attitude. Really need training in dealing with customers. Had few issues but they were handled poorly. Hats off to the chef 🧑‍🍳 food was great! Except for the complementary desert that we asked for. Duck and trout were great!

I have been here three times since this place opened. Service and food are out of this world. Their wine list is impressive and being part of the Bentley group that is no surprise. This would have to be Bentley group’s signature restaurant. The ambience of Capella Hotel also adds charm to the venue. Agree with the two hat status!!

I’ve been admiring the Capella hotel for a while now and as much as I want to stay, it’s slightly out of budget 😮 so the restaurant was a way to get a look in. We hadn’t booked so took our chance and got a walk in. We’d also seen photos from our mate @eatwithmyfoodsafari who had eaten there and it looked fantastic. Their restaurant @brasserie.1930 has outstanding food, served in super efficient timing and staff are extremely good; whether it be the restaurant manager, sommelier or wait staff. We really liked the streak; we ordered it medium off the bone, green beans with mustard and almonds, a side of fries and the kingfish carpacchio. For 2 people, I think one more dish would be a good way to go. For this restaurant, sharing is probably a good way to try more too - for the whole duck looked incredible

Decor of the restaurant was nice and pleasant. Food was delicious. Downside is the service, I expected better service than what was delivered. Sommelier was great from the beginning when I ordered my bottle of wine, but never came back to our table afterwards. Waitress was slow in resetting our sharing plates before the food came for our table and we had to ask to top up our wine and there was no water topping up either. Glasses were empty for quite sometime and no one came over to top up. Not up to standard on service for a fine dining 5 star hotel restaurant.

Wow, what an experience! And I say experience because it wasn’t just ‘going for dinner’. I was so overwhelmed by the venue, the food quality and not to mention amazing service - thanks to the whole team - especially our waiter Phoebe, you made all the difference - that I forgot to take photos of the food (other than the desserts). We've been here twice - once for a romantic couples dinner and again for business - and on both occasions it blew us away. Do try it, you won’t be disappointed. It really is a special experience. Perfect for couples and for business.

Nestled within a stunning hotel, Brasserie 1930 boasts a decor and ambiance that are nothing short of sublime a perfect blend of elegance and charm. Having visited this incredible establishment four times in the past six weeks, I can confidently say that it consistently delivers an exceptional dining experience. My most recent visit was for lunch on Thursday, December 19, 2024. To my surprise, former Prime Minister Tony Abbott was dining just a few tables away, adding an unexpected touch of intrigue to the afternoon. As for the food, it is simply phenomenal. Over my visits, I have savored the melt-in-your-mouth lamb shoulder, the perfectly grilled chicken with its juicy tenderness, the prawn and chili pasta that delivers a delightful kick with its harmonious blend of flavors, and the ribeye steak, which was cooked to perfection and bursting with robust, savory notes. Each dish was artfully prepared, offering a symphony of textures and flavors that left me craving more. The wine list is equally impressive, featuring an extensive and thoughtfully curated selection of exquisite options. With a diverse array of vintages and varietals, there s something to suit every palate. The wines are vibrant, refined, and pair beautifully with the dishes, enhancing the overall dining experience. Brasserie 1930 is a true culinary gem, and I ll undoubtedly be back again. It s a place that embodies excellence, making it a must-visit destination for any food and wine lover.

We were invited to come and share the experience of Brasserie 1930 by some friends and we were not disappointed. The Sommelier Georgie was amazing and her service and recommendation of drinks and food were faultless. We were able to try a large selection of entrees, mains and desserts, which were all terrific, but my personal favourite was the Wagyu Tartare. Ooh la la! What an absolute gem - from the cocktail/mocktail bar to the dessert, dining at Bistro 1930 was a real treat. The waitstaff were very helpful and attentive as we dilly dallied a bit on trying to decide on such a delicious menu. Being able to share dishes was a godsend - the duck was definitely the stand out, among a very close group of delicious dishes. The starters of beef tartar and the king fish carpaccio were exquisite. I ve also just spent the morning trying to find a recipe for the green beans with almonds though as I can t stop thinking about them! The interior design of the space is luxurious and just plain cool. Can t wait to visit again the next special occasion!

We had a truly special dining experience at this amazing city restaurant. The hotel and by extension the restaurant, has been transformed into a sophisticated modern dining experience. The attentive and friendly service was without fault. Last and certainly not least was the food and wine. Every course was visually enticing and delicious. There is an excellent wine menu and the wine recommended by Georgie matched our courses perfectly. Thanks to Georgie, Patrick, Stefan and the rest of the team for a marvellous night out.

A perfectly adequate evening. Our Sommelier was excellent, she was a real highlight as we found the rest of the service was average at best. Water glasses remained unfilled for much of the evening. Food was good, again not a wow experience, but also not terrible. The only call out on food was the sourdough which felt like it had been sliced a few hours ago and had started to dry out by the time it reached us. All on all it was an ok experience, but given some of the hype and the prices, we had expected a little more.

We stayed at the hotel for anniversary and came here for anniversary dinner . It was a bit disappointed with the food and service. Lack of service / staff were not attentive, no one ever came over to refill water , during 90 min dinner but they pour water for other tables regularly . Food , overrated , ordered two starters and two mains , all were average / below expectations . We decided to skip dessert and asked for a bill. We were here for breakfast, it was included , same as dinner , Nothing extraordinary but one thing the Morning team was better , more attentive .

We like the Capella brand, just returned from dining at Cote at Capella Bangkok. For Brasserie 1930, the food we ordered was great and tasty, the decor is low key classy retro, all the plates and glasses, cutlery are beautifully chosen for us to enjoy. But..... the biggest problem is with the service. Main course came while still having entrees, Waitress argued she hadnt done anything wrong (big no no as a waiting staff of such a luxury institution is to argue with customers), felt being served just like in any average place you can find on the high street. But, I have to give a big thank you to the middle age Manager (with glasses), he was very efficient, he checked on how we were doing.... and he listened to us patiently. I know it is hard to find good waiting staff, please train them to the high standard of Capella, like those great staff I met at Cote in Bangkok Capella.

The one star deduction: The food was served on cold plates, and the plate with the duck ended up on the cold marble table without a warming plate or at least a base -> everything got cold immediately... We thoroughly enjoyed our dinners on both nights and our stays at Capella. Sommelier Georgie paired wines for us to compliment our meals and Gabriel explained the menu to us in detail. Both took the time to genuinely answer our questions. The duck we had the first night was superb and the lamb and rump steak on the second night were tender and delicious.

The food is NOT worth the money. Ive been to places who have charged us $200+ for the same type of food that we ordered but I have never left a restaurant feeling the kind of regret that I felt when leaving the Brasserie 1930. It is such a shame considering it was the part of my Sydney trip that my boyfriend and I looked forward to the most. If this truly is a 5 star restaurant, critics definitely need to do a reevaluation. If you want something fancy and upscale, do not look in this direction. Youll find something else. The interior was breathtaking, and waiters/waitresses were absolutely lovely and were always checking in on us but it wasnt enough to even give this place a two star rating because the food was truly disappointing and an absolute waste of money.

Stayed at the Capella 2 x weeks ago. Hotel and rooms were lovely. I found the brasserie to be a little underwhelming for a 2 Michelin star rated restaurant. Staff are very attentive though.

February 23, 2024

Venue was wonderful and staff very attentive but food was way too salty in very small portions. Bitterly disappointed. Should be left with a feeling of care and generosity which was sadly lacking. Terrible options available for a fellow vegetarian diner. $30 for bread for the table just simply unacceptable, Vegetarian options: Very very poor. Those available reported to be almost inedible sadly.

Great looking establishment - beautiful layout with a lux and chic vibe with indigenous touches. Staff are very attentive and super friendly. Of the 4 dishes ordered, only the prawns were memorable. The Pork Belly was majority fat and didn t really pair too well with the other elements - the texture of the lamb was was really tough, it was very difficult to cut (needed a steak knife), everything else was good with the lamb but the lamb itself missed the mark. The Murray cod was the least satisfying dish, sauce was bland and the cod is drowned in it. Small mistake made - we settled the bill, but brought back to settle the bill again because the public holiday surcharge was not applied. No biggie, just inconvenient.

Went just before Christmas for lunch. The restaurant was full and that had some negative effects. We had nice large round table for 5, but with all the hard surfaces it was hard to hear the others across the table. Staff also seemed to be struggling to keep up so things like drinks took ~20mins. Food was wonderful but for the price $300 per head we had expected more attention to those last mile details.

Inside the new Capella Hotel by Circular Quay is Brasserie 1930 by the Bentley Group. Today was opening day and I popped in for my anniversary dinner. The premise here is a French brasserie through an Australian lens that heroes small independent farmers and growers. The fitout here is very swanky and service is overall great. The food here is simply beautiful and extremely easy on the eyes. Our full order was: $7 per - Sydney Rock Oysters $6 per - Sourdough, Cultured Butter $28 - Burrata, Black Garlic, Bush Tomato Oil $38 - Flinders Island Scallop, Brown Butter, Finger Lime $52 - Spanner Crab, Alla Chitarra, Tarragon, Sea Urchin Sauce $18 - Green Beans, Almonds $68 - Coral Trout, Potato Yoghurt Purée, Leek, Black Olive $110 - Coppertree Farms Ribeye, Borderlaise Sauce 600g $18 - Dark Chocolate Mille Feuille, Vanilla Cremeux, Passionfruit Sorbet $18 - Brown Sugar Tart, Black Fig, Creme Fraiche The starters here were divine: the burrata, the scallops, and the spanner crab are all must orders. Couldn t fault any of them. The spanner crab was my dish of the night. Very rich but not overboard, but definitely pricey for the portion. Unfortunately, while the cultured butter was nice, the sourdough was awful might as well have been a bread roll from Coles/Woolies. Don t order the bread. Onto the mains, while the borderlaise sauce and the ribeye was cooked a perfect medium rare, the ribeye was let down by the Coppertree Farms product itself. It must have been a Marble Score 4 or below because it was just far too tough and not great to keep chewing to break down to swallow. For $110 I wouldn t order this again. I appreciated the flavor of the Coral Trout as well but it was a touch overcooked and a touch too salty. Nothing that can t be fixed so not a big deal. I d probably opt for the Murray Cod next time. The Green Beans were great: buttery and very flavorful I d order this side again. As for the desserts, the tart would be my pick. As much as I enjoyed the Mille Feuille the passionfruit sorbet was simply far too tart to be edible, again easily fixable. All in all I d absolutely come back for the starters and when I do I d pick some of the other mains. Very keen to try the whole duck.

This was one of those meals that you think about after you ve been there for a while. The room I think most have seen it online prior to arriving, but none of that does it justice it s breathtaking. It has occasion to it. I was out for dinner with a friend who is also from the hospitality industry, both of us were expecting it to be of course very good given who is doing it, but also allowing that it s only relatively recently opened and these things take time. We need not of worried, of course the room is the room and incredible. The service in particular Martin the Som was exemplary and did not miss a beat. The food was spot-on delicious, perfectly cooked and classic, but still with interesting twists and technical. It was such a great meal. Amazing! The hotel is a bit whatever-trevor and after paying over $50 for one Old Fashioned in the bar across from Brasserie 1930 we were a bit skeptical. But as soon as we entered the restaurant doors we were greeted with with friendly welcoming smiles and warm friendly service. The food was hands down right up there with the best of the best. We had the freshest tastiest Sydney oysters followed by the duck for 2 and then dessert almost knocked my socks off. The chocolate Mille-feuille with was insanely good. Cocktails and wine were well-recommended and nowhere near the posh prices of the hotel bar. The service was friendly, welcoming and genuine. We ll be back in a heartbeat on our next visit to Sydney. PS - OMG the bread and butter. The butter was such a perfect silky smooth room temp, cultured, and with the most delicate salt flakes throughout.

Gorgeous venue, attentive (at times overly attentive) staff at Brasserie 1930. The food was very tasty and the menu was extensive however the temperature of the food that arrived at our table just wasnt hot enough and especially the cod which was disappointing. Its not what I would expect from a place connected to Bentley especially for the price we paid. There was so much to like about the bistro, we started with the spanner crab pasta, then the Murray River Cod plus the lamb but please lets make it hotter next time.

Wow wow wow what an amazing dining experience.Had my birthday dinner. From the moment we walked in the level of service and professionalism is outstanding. The atmosphere & attention to detail is 5 star. Now the food .. Absolutely fantastic from presentation to the flavours, taste are wow wow wow. There Signature dish the Duck OMG not only did it present so gorgeous when it arrived at the table, but there are no words to describe the taste but to make a booking and order the Duck it will blow your mind yum yum yum. Ladies & Gents and of course the brilliant Chefs keep up the good work. You guys rock. I will definitely be returning to explore the rest of the menu. T.R.

I will be back for more. I wanted to try everything on the menu but with the 2 of us we could only order a fraction of what I desired. Everything was amazing! To the decor, the cutlery, the Crockery, all details were appreciated. The only thing was I felt the service was missing a little something. Not as attentive as you d expect at a restaurant like this. For example, I had to constantly ask for refill of water instead of them coming to fill up my glass when it was empty (and it would be empty for a long while).

The people here are wonderful. We had come, without a booking, later, and the kitchen had closed. However, they were nice enough to offer the four of us a seat. We ordered the tuna, crab pasta, which (understandably) did not have the Uni, of which we were warned beforehand, the lamb and the sirloin steak. Overall, the food was wonderful, but the lamb was slightly too chewy. Midway throughout the lunch, a glass from the table tipped over and broke all over my colleague s pants, and several staff immediately came over and cleaned it up, even offering to replace the apple juice (for free), and, as we were staying upstairs in the Capella Hotel, offered to go up and get another shirt for us. Overall, I would most definitely return .

First time at Brasserie 1930 last night and it won t be the last. Perfect 5 star hotel dining experience. Every table was taken in the beautifully appointed room which made it buzzy but the noise level was moderate. Knowledgeable and friendly staff, interesting wine list and of course, superb food. Standout dishes were the crab pasta, Murray cod and the quince dessert. Extra fun when the Matildas won and the dining room erupted in cheers!

Brasserie 1930 at Capella Hotel provided an unforgettable experience. The duck dish was truly exceptional, delighting the palate with its flavors and preparation. Equally commendable was the exceptional service, which stands out as some of the finest Ive encountered in Sydney. The fusion of superb cuisine and top-tier hospitality makes Brasserie 1930 a destination of choice for those in search of a distinguished dining encounter.

Tried the coal grilled chicken, which arrived looking anaemic, with flabby, rubbery skin. Any Coles barbecue chicken would have been preferable. After that let down, the brown sugar tart was good. The dining room is pleasant.

Capella is a five-star hotel with a rating of 9.7, which is almost the most perfect hotel in Australia. Service, environment, and location are all reasons for its high score. Of course its almost double the price of other five star hotels! ! ! The interior decoration is nice. Although the lobby is small, its layout is compact, making full use of the space and expanding the view without feeling oppressive.

Had high expectations of the restaurant, given its part of the Bentley group and attached to The Capella, but was a little disappointed. Firstly, the look and feel of the restaurant is top notch. Lovely decor and ambiance. The service was exceptional, with a very friendly and attentive service team. We ordered the bread and burrata to begin, and they were great. Great flavours with the burrata and garlic. For mains, we ordered the cod and the rump cap, and this is where the disappointment set in. Flavours were a little bland, the beef serving was quite small (although cooked impeccably), and the sides (fries and salad) were just a bit basic. For the price of the meal, and the reputation, i had high hopes, but walk away a little disappointed. Hopefully it was just a once off.

December 23, 2023

Overrated, disappointing. 6 of us went there on a Friday night, we had bottle of Ruinard Blanc de Blanc ($325 correctly priced for this type of establishment) in the lobby bar while waiting of our table at 8H30. Staff was friendly and efficient. The food was disappointing overall. The spanner crab (2) plenty of added sugar, over cooked pasta, making hard to appreciate the taste of the carb or any uni butter at $ 52 a serving this is a bad joke, (Raggazi does something much better.) The Prawns were nice but 1 large prawn cut in 2 halves, for $ 32 not fair value. The pork Belly was good. Bone in Sirloin was requested very blue, because the meat was aged, it was definitely not very blue, overcooked with a strong fat taste, bad product and not properly explained by untrained staff. The Murray cod were well served and properly cooked. The whole duck was disaster, overcooked serving only the breast, with the neck sausage been a mix of pork & duck overwhelmed with cinnamon. Definitely well behind the others at $ 190, The centennial makes one at $ 150 which is much better, The Charles makes one a $ 170 which is close to the Centennial, the best is at Cafe Paci where is duck an orange on Special at $90 for full duck is the best in Sydney right now. The desserts were good. Overall, this is not just about the price but the quality of the food and this is disappointing, they are supposed to represent the best in Sydney as a trendy location but the restaurant is noisy, the staff nice but definitely no class and poor experience, the food quality is not at all related to the pricing. I cannot recommend this to anyone who appreciate food. Kid-friendliness: they have especial attention for kids

I was really excited to spend my anniversary dinner at Brasserie, however the experience has left me extremely disappointed and doubting my return to the Capella. I ll start with the pros. Food was tasty! I really enjoyed the lamb and the beef tartare was another highlight. The ambience was relatively nice, although some ambient music would have made it a more comfortable experience. However, the food was outweighed by the appalling service. When you mention a restaurant associated with the capella, you expect friendliness and warmth. However the staff here were cold and did not even take the time to explain the dishes as they were served. Food was dumped on our plate and that was the extent of their service. The food also took a minimum of thirty to forty minutes to serve between courses. When we asked for the cheque, we had to ask for it repeatedly. Only for them in the end to tell us to pay at the front desk. For reference on how unattended we were, my water was left empty for most of the dinner and they only refilled it once. The prices of the food were also extremely unreasonable as portions of the food were small. They highly recommended the prawns (a whopping $32) and what came out were two small prawns the size of my thumb. TLDR; don t have high hopes for this esteemed restaurant unless you have extra cash to spend and are willing to spend a minimum of 3 hours for your dining experience.

Entrees were superb and the food generally of a good standard. Let down by the service which was exceptional when staff were at the table but they often werent and were hard to find. When youre paying a fine dining premium you expect the service to be on point and getting mains 2 hours after you sit down at the table, and having to ask for your water and wine glass to be filled is disappointing. Hopefully just a bad night as a relatively new restaurant. We did highlight to staff the issues experienced and other than an apology no explanation given. Will give them another chance but the experience affected the enjoyment of our evening so felt it had to be noted.

Brasserie 1930 is inside the 5-star luxury Capella Hotel, which was an over 100 years old building for the Department of Education in Sydney. The dining area is in good size, well decorated with a quiet and comfortable setting. It was a birthday lunch on Saturday for ourselves. Surprisingly, it was not many guests. We ordered the entrees and main courses. The beef tartare and sirloin steak for myself were just a bit below my expectations. Table service was not bad, and we would expect to be much higher standard for the cost meal.

The food was nice when we finally received it but service was terrible especially given the price of the meal. Basic things such as filling water glasses, remembering orders, giving us the wrong cutlery, removing our wine glasses before we finished our bottle, taking 20 minutes to serve our drinks, etc. A really poor experience and one that left us embarrassed in front of our guests as we chose this restaurant for a business meeting/dinner. Reading through some other reviews I can see this experience is shared.

My friends and I were extremely happy with the quality of the food that we ordered for lunch - everything was delicious and well presented. Our feedback is in relation to the level of service that we experienced - which was absolutely appalling. Our waitress was obviously very inexperienced, however made no effort to build rapport, and was not attentive when it came to topping up drinks etc, as well as making some basic mistakes for the standard expected from a restaurant of this calibre and for the price that we paid for our lunch. Things to highlight in particular included spilling water whilst pouring it into the glass as soon as we sat down, using her sleeve to wipe spilt water off the menu (which was very odd!), and trying to clear away our wine glasses when we still had more than a half a bottle of wine to drink. On another note, all the other staff that we had brief interactions with were all very professional and efficient. I would be very reluctant to recommend Brasserie 1930 based solely on the standard of service we experienced, which is a shame because the food was excellent and the decor of the restaurant is very stylish and tasteful.

Found the food over priced and extermely bland. The service was slow and the uniform needs some colour. Need additional acoustics in the restaurant as the noise doesnt work when meeting with clients. The main part of the hotel is beautiful and worth a visit for a coffee or a wine, just dont eat.

December 23, 2023

The reason I m giving 1 star is because I was charged $40 non-alcohol surcharge for not drinking. I m 8 months pregnant, my husband and I were drinking mocktails, which are almost as much as a cocktails. We still were charged the surcharge - very disappointing end to the evening and really bad way to treat your patrons. Won t be back.

Not the best experience we stayed at the hotel which was absolutely beautiful! Aperture was amazing food and service (just outside) 1930 was a real let down. Very simple and small entrees for dinner. Expensive. We had the share plate duck for main. I would not recommend cold.. no taste.. the best part was the onion under the duck. My water cup was empty for 2/3 of the meal and I was without a beer for at least 1/2 the meal.. subtly left at the edge of the table for waiter to notice.. I refuse to ask repeatedly for simple service.. We had breakfast the next day ok service.. was seated and told someone would take a drinks order.. 10 mins of waiting and trying to grab the attention fir a waiter i had to put my hand up and call someone over. Again water refill was an issue.. 5 times I had to ask for more water. Hate to say it I ve gad better service at a motel in country Australia. Breakfast was ok.. nothing to brag about. Got the extra option(paid more for) and it was absolutely tiny. Will stay at the hotel again will not go to the restaurant would rather got to the cafe just outside.

If you wake up the next morning and are still talking about your amazing dining experience last night you hit it right with your choice of a restaurant for dinner. We heard about Brasserie 1930 but the actual experience far exceeded our anticipation. We were a tiny bit of hesitantation because my wife and I are die hard vegetarians. But let me assure you, being a sworn veggie does not come in the way. The veg options on the menu and a couple of off the menu dishes they put together for us were absolutely delicious. It is not just the food. You go to a fine dining restaurant for an experience and you get just that in B1930. The team was genuinely warm and spent time helping us make the right picks explaining the Brasserie 1930 interpretation of the dishes, helping us pick the right wines to pair too. The service was efficient and non intrusive letting us have an amazing evening. My acid test before i give a 5* is, will I go back there a few times and would I unhesitatingly recommend it to my discerning buddies. My answer on both counts is a solid Yes Thank you Brasserie 1930 we had an amazing dinner and time Vegetarian options: Suffices to say that you can be an ardent vegetarian and have a fulfilling (intended pun) meal

I had been looking forward to this meal having heard excellent reviews. I was really disappointed. The food was excellent, however I felt that the restaurant service lacked attention to detail. I realise it is a busy time of year, however, I have dined at other Sydney restaurants and their service and attention to detail surpassed the Brassiere. I am a solo diner, the restaurant was increasingly loud throughout my meal to the point I had to get out of the restaurant, staff looked like they would rather to be somewhere else (I know everyone is tired). I couldn t wait to finish. I usually like to go back to places twice. But will not he going back to this restaurant.
