Came on a Sunday for lunch and it was a very limited menu. Had been wanting to come here for so long and was so disappointed. Very average for the price ($84 for light lunch for two). Also apparently buying tea is a “requirement” ($10 for 2 people). I have never been somewhere where they’ve forced you to order and pay for drinks. We had ordered seperate drinks already too when she told us. Steamed Bahn mi - tasty but small - 3.5/5 Chicken herb salad - nice and fresh, but super sweet and the shredded chicken had gristly pieces through it 3.5/5 Xiao long bao - 1/5

Beautiful Vietnamese food in the city centre. We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday without a booking and they were able to accommodate us. The food was delicious and had quite authentic flavours but a lot of the dishes were sweeter than I've had in the past. Dishes like Ca Kho and Canh Chua. My favourite dish was prawn, green apple and mango salad. It was very fresh and yummy.

Had a stellar experience at this super cute restaurant. They served an inspired Vietnamese/Chinese Yum cha set menu that they just launched a couple of weeks ago. Everything from the Bánh Bột Lọc, to the Siu Mai, Har Gow and Bún Bò Huế Xiao Long Bao was to die for. I even loved their Bok Choy and Fried Rice finisher. Didn't get to try their Blue Cheese Egg Tarts because my wife doesn't like Blue Cheese - however I plan to promptly return and grab one soon. You can feel the love they put into the food and atmosphere. We also absolutely loved their house tea blend, having like 5 pots while we were there. They have lots of different menus throughout the week so are excited to return.

Been here twice and had an excellent experience both times! What was especially great about Cash Only: 1) Quick and attentive service - food was served quickly, water is constantly refilled 2) Allergen sheet - this is super handy to navigate intolerances, and the staff is super mindful of letting us know what can / can't be altered 3) More unique Vietnamese food and flavour - clay pot fish had such a delicious sauce, calamari was cooked really well without being chewy, the bun bo hue had such a lovely broth, the beef skewers packed a punch in its marinade and generous serving side, the mango salad was so fresh and fragrant, both the banana and pandan waffle dessert were also binge worthy!

Overall: 4/7 Overall felt quite overpriced for what it is. Perhaps they excel in a few key dishes, and everything else is quite underwhelming. Highlights were the pate and Spring roll. eggplant was ok. -1 for price. Spring roll: 5/7 Very big with lots of filling. Tastes decent. Very well fried though, cooked very well and goes well with sauce. Pate: 5/7 This was pretty great. We’ll balanced and good mix of flavours and textures. Eggplant: 4/7 Impressive cook on the eggplant as the skin was also very soft, which is unusual. Flavours itself were unremarkable though. Crack rice: 4/7 The bowl is a bit small for the amount of mixing that needs to be done. The egg we got wasn’t runny at all - perhaps they need to invest in a sous vide machine. But I can see the principle they’re going for - maybe would be better if they poured on more sauce. The bit at the end where the sauce pooled was pretty good. Inclusion of pork crackling is just strange - the sauced bits became very soft and the rest were too hard to break up and mix.

We actually couldn t finish our meal and took home the fried rice and ate it that night for dinner. Up there with the best fried rice I ve ever had.

Overall 2 star experience. The drinks menu had limited non alcoholic options so asked for a coke and received a half filled glass that tasted like off post mix. Shocked that it was $6... Restaurant was half full at 7pm and they wouldnt let us sit at a 4 seater table (we were a party of 2) even though none of them were booked and seated us on the street. The indoor tables were not occupied the whole time we dined. Vietnamese pancake had a few slices of pork that were the size of my pinky finger. Service was subpar- I asked for no coriander but coriander was in my dish. Will not be returning.

First, its not enough words to show the appreciation for the way they treat the customers with allergies - the lady who served us gave us the list with allergens in the dishes OH MY GOSH THIS IS INCREDIBLE!!! I am struggling to explain in every cafe what I can and cannot eat and this is very pleasant to have all explanations. Second, the food is FANTASTIC. I have never tried anything with so many rich flavours together (our choice was beef tartare and two different soups). Big portions, quality is top-level. HUGE THANKS Dietary restrictions: All dietary requirements are met and all explanations about allergens in the dishes are given!

I was excited to try Cash Only Diner, after visiting Hue and enjoying the local food. The entrees did not disappoint! The chicken wings with tamarind fish sauce was a crowd pleaser, followed closely by the Nem Lui. We found the mains of crispy chicken and pan seared duck were a bit ordinary after such fantastic entrees but the dessert made up for it - the coconut panna cotta with fresh fruit was a beautiful palate cleanser at the end of the meal. Service was lovely but the music was a little too loud.

lovely and attentive service as well as atmosphere, very comfortable and warm spot for a dinner. food wise, the most memorable dishes were the beetle-leaf (tasty! 4/5) and the cracked rice (salty egg and pork crackle 3.5/5) was fun. The mains we got were so-so and not as memorable - we had the Bún Bò Hu (2/5) which should be spicy and have blood jelly in it but instead it was sweet and didnt have some of the core ingredients (felt it was a little diluted down and too simple from the original tastes Im use to from this dish), the claypot fish had a perfectly grilled salmon, could definitely had more glaze here (3/5) and also had a beef shank, again well cooked meat though flavors were a little light. had a nice time at this upmarket viet resto, though flavors feel a little diluted down to win the masses, if you want that spice hit, probs best to go to bankstown ;)

This is one of my favourite casual diners in the CBD. Amazing Vietnamese food in a beautiful but relaxed space. The food has a home-cooked vibe but executed with technical and professional precision. Each dish is a flavour bomb with a special menu adding variety with every visit. I love the unique pork belly skewers, the banh khot, the banh xeo, crack rice and kickin wings. Amazing cocktails (which is to be expected as some of Sydneys best bartenders - the owners of Burrow Bar located beneath - run this venue.

My first time trying Vietnamese food and it was surprisingly good. I tasted the spring rolls, pepper beef skewers, VN Pate and Special Fried rice. If youre a foodie you definitely must order the spring rolls. Their service is incredibly good, if you have any allergy or food restrictions you can ask for different choices, and you dont need to worry about it because they take real care about it. We booked it for a company lunch for 20+ people ( with veggie, vegan and nut free dietary requirements) with one days notice and even with that massive challenge the owner Bryce was extremely responsive and could accomodate us with a specially created 3 course meal per person. The food was amazing, the chefs are so talented and we had an array of amazingly rich flavoured hotpots, papaya salads and even pandan waffle with caramel sauce dessert! Amazing job Bryce and team, would 100% recommend in a heartbeat to anyone as the best fusion Vietnamese restaurant in Sydney! PS the cocktails were to die for too ;) Vegetarian options: Plenty of tofu and vegan options too Dietary restrictions: Nut free options

Ordered the bun bo hue. This is a hard dish to get right and this places almost nails it for me. It s still very tasty, full of umami flavour. Traditionally this dish is a bit more spicy and that s what I prefer. They have a generous amount of beef and noodles. It also comes with the sides of veges.

I appreciate the review of the place in all aspects, especially the Vietnamese food because I am Vietnamese. When eating, I was truly surprised because the dish is purely Vietnamese but combined with a Western European style with a twist. Besides, the drinks are quite diverse, delicious, and unique. Bit underwhelming. After arriving at 5:39 for our 5:30 booking we were greeted with a lecture about how late we were and how we needed to finish by 7 before we even sat down. We ordered the spring rolls, pancake, duck and fried rice. The spring rolls were good, everything else was ok, nothing to write home about. Food coming out was slow and staggered with our fried rice being the last dish we received which was odd. At 6:15 the couple next to us had just received their food despite being seated before us, and at 6:30 instead of asking how everything is going, we were asked to hurry up as were the table next to us. We were out by 6:45 and were quite happy to leave at that point. We understand that it can be difficult to manage bookings on busy nights but that shouldnt translate to being rude or short with people trying to have a good night. Not a good first experience which is unfortunate given the other positive reviews for this place.

Food: nem lui hué platter, green apple and mango salad, five spice short rib, fish of the week and co special fried rice My fave is the platter, it was an experience to eat and the combination of flavour was interesting and the sauce was amazing. The salad was good but the shrimp is giving you that cheap shrimp fishy flavour that is not very pleasant. I didn t like the short rib, the sauce was too oily and the sauce overpower the whole dish. My friends enjoy the fish of the week which was baramundi but I think it is okay nothing special. The fried rice though like really it is something I cooked at home lol nothing special. Customer service: Amazing. The girl that assisted us was so lovely and helpful and gave us her best recommendation. The way we received the food was a bit weird too, it took some time to received each dish and we received the fried rice last which is very strange. We ordered some cocktails too which I can t remember the name but it was way too strong for my liking. Too strong that it overkilled the rest of the flavour.

Absolutely delicious. I ve sampled bun bo hue in Saigon and Cabramatta and I can say Cash only Diner s rendition stands up to those bowls as a worthy contender for most sublime. The addition of shiso leaves as a garnish is truely inspired and the broth had a perfect balance of sweet and savoury. The normal garnishes of Vietnamese mint, mint leaf and lime are of course a must. And don t forget to add the spectacular, spicy, scarlet red sate. The staff were extremely welcoming and also, quite rightfully, very proud of the food they serve. I shall be returning when I m in the area, or even when I m not, for if one has a craving for a BBH, one will stop at nothing in order to quench that unshakeable thirst. And fortunately for me, Cash only Diner has just the solution I m looking for. Like a junky to a dealer, Cash Only Diner s bbh will have me coming back again and again and again, until one of us is no more. Also don t be fooled by the name. They do of course accept eftpos.

The food takes some time to come out. A couple of dishes took 25 min but this wasn t communicated and we were waiting anxiously to get back to the office. So maybe not the right pick for a work lunch - just ensure you have time. I did enjoy the pancake but parts of my friends order never came. Our waitress must have had an off day and seemed quite irritated with us. We did make a few requests but nothing out of the ordinary and could have been handled better. I think the manager picked up on this and made a big effort to make us feel welcome, so kudos to that. I d come back again for dinner when we have more time.

Pretty good vibes and clean aesthetic. Food is quite tasty but a bit expensive for portion size, pork belly skewer especially at $10/skewer. The bun bo hue was quite aromatic though the beef was just ordinary and there was not much toppings. Crispy chicken was crispy but not very juicy. Portion size is not terrible for $17. Banh xeo was quite crispy with a nice sweet chilli sauce but again quite small for $23 3.5 stars overall. Would recommend the bun bo hue really

This has to be the best Vietnamese restaurant in Sydney. The food was flavoursome without being too heavy and was able to cater to vegetarians (not a huge selection but what they had was delicious). We had a particularly wonderful experience at this restaurant, the staff were very attentive and friendly but what topped it off was that as we were leaving my friend noticed he lost a piece of his camera. We mentioned it to the staff member and also in the same conversation had told him where we were headed next. Elliott went out of his way to create a unique and delicious Bloody Mary to match the beautiful dishes and Bryce found us a tape measure to settle a friendly dispute. Thank you so very much for bringing that little bit of sparkle during every visit!

Vietnamese food Hue regional style, and guess what, it accepts cards as well as cash so ignore the name. Love the contemporary feel of the place, which has a bar component as well as meals. The food I would place midway between standard dinner and fine dining - the portions are a little small and within acceptability, the tastes achieved are different and special. The atmosphere is cheerful and chic. To think the only real issue is the name, which probably has a history to it - was this once a rustic cash-only cheap eat? Because it isn t anymore.

Came across this place while looking for some lunch. Was quite excited to try based off the amazing reviews. Unfortunately, a staff member looked to be having an off day and service was a bit lacking. Intro was lukewarm, was not guided to our seats at the back of the restaurant and no menus were given to us but to other tables that arrived after us. Tried to make eye contact with a staff member who seemed to be busy with other tasks, caught her eye but she then looked away immediately. Once we placed our order, the food arrived quickly and was excellent. Can recommend the pork belly skewers and the fried rice. The Viet iced coffee on the other hand was more ice than drink, would not recommend. Price was a little high but I think the food was high quality and venue was great.

We went on Saturday evening 1st July and sadly were very disappointed. Seemed like none of the staff got on, they were grumpy particularly the lady behind the bar who seemed to be the centre of it. Created quite a negative vibe, felt like we were imposing by just being there! I m sure that s not how the owners built their great reputation - current team need some love so they don t create poor brand experience.

W O W! do not be fooled by the name, this is neither cash only nor a diner . and the food is the star, matched by a casual dining atmosphere and great friendly service. Bryce gave us a fantastic run down on the menu and how the place came to be and expectations were raised . And the amazing kitchen did not disappoint! Big distinct flavors, perfectly cooked proteins in all of the 10 dishes and enjoyed every one. Just go!

We arrived at 5.40 on a Saturday night and said we would need to be gone by 6.30 due to a show. Despite the restaurant havin just one table occupied they said they could only fit us at a window seat. The restaurant had three tables in use by the time we left. We were very clear we would be quick, but they couldnt seem to accommodate that. The food was OK. Betel beef was the best. The Claypot fish was, I suggest, cooked on a grill then put into a hot claypot, and very expensive for one piece of salmon cutlet. The soup was lacking in flavour. Overall it was evry expensive for some OK but nothing special food.

Cash Only Diner has been on my to-go list for over 6 months, finally made it on Saturday night. The restaurant offers the Vietnamese cuisine from the regional area of Hue, and the dishes are inspired by the owners Mum. You wont find Pho or Banh Mi on the menu, which makes this place unique and different from all other Vietnamese restaurants. We were not famished therefore decided not to over order. We had Sour Soup, Claypot Fish, and small portion of Fried Rice, companied with bottle of wine. The dishes were flavoursome and nicely presented. Service was friendly and attentive. Nothing to fault and will be back to try other dishes on the menu. 19/03/2022

Incredibly authentic food served in a lovely little place. We surprised them on a rainy day with a table for 8 and they were awesome from start to finish. We didnt have the mental energy to order, so the owner chose dishes for us to share and brought them out in a non-stop stream of incredibly presented and delicious food. Great wine accompaniment (he recommended the Riesling and I trusted him!), and authentic cold coffees to end. When I paid at the finish, I told him he wasnt charging enough. It was far too cheap for Sydney CBD and the quality they provided.

I took my 15 year old daughter in for a treat and we were not disappointed. The service is lovely, friendly and helpful, but the food is at another level. We shared chicken wings, spring rolls and cured pork. The chicken wings were really good; crunchy with a sweet, gently spiced sauce. The spring rolls were excellent too: hot and crisp with a deliciously sour dipping sauce and good fresh herbs. The cured pork was divine. The food of the Gods. Small, thin slices of pork belly (I think) very heavily flavoured with what tasted like tamarind and garlic plus something sweet served over vermicelli noodles. Top, top beer food. We also had a go on what is apparently a new dish, Vietnamese pâté. I didn t know there was such a thing. It was so very good. Served with flying fish roe which is another new one on me; tiny morsels of flavour which pop in your mouth. Amazing stuff. In short: get your arse down there!

Yes they take card. Came to understand that the name is an ode to the owners passion for Viet street food. Service here is quite nice. The ladies that helped us were very informative and sweet. They would answer any question we had in detail and would go out of their way to explain certain things about their menu. The ambiance is quite great. It wasn t too busy around lunch time so it s the perfect CBD catch up lunch without too much bustle around. Especially if you are looking for a little flavor and something different. The menu seems limited at first due to the lack of plant based dishes and excess of pork based dishes. They do offer to adjust much of the menu items to match dietary requirements. I wish they had a menu for that though would ve been easier than having to ask about each plate. I don t like being the fussy customer. There was no online menu at the time for us to check beforehand. We had the veg spring rolls as starters. 10/10 maybe one of the best. So flavorful. Had the grilled stuffed eggplant (7/10) and ordered it plant based as well. It was good. The eggplant was well cooked. It didn t boast the flavors it claimed. I hoped it would be more spiced but my friend quite enjoyed it. Drinks menu was nice with plenty of options. There were a couple of tempting dessert options but we were quite full. Will come back to try them.

Delicious food, friendly service - can t wait to be back again! A little hidden gem and I m so glad our friend recommended us to visit. The dishes were unique and executed really well! We were all a huge fan of the Hue style barramundi (fresh, tender, tasty), grilled prawns (so good, but you have to get your hands dirty), mango apple salad (so good), house-made pickles (great kick but not too sour) and pandan mochi waffle (could be cooked a little less, it became a little hard to bite at the ends but still delicious). The grilled scallops were alright and the cracked rice was very intense (overly sweet sauce on the rice, very salty soft boiled egg - need to mix all components very well). Drinks were good but only the ones on the paper menu are available, and not much description on the cocktails. I did enjoy my green tea highball, but it could be sweeter. My husband got a mocktail with the citrus, lightly sweet notes he requested. The staff were friendly and proud of their dishes and drinks. It was a pleasure to chat with them! It could get a bit loud when the room is full, and it is a bit chilly as well when it is cool outside. Look forward to be back next time!

Wow~ This is going to be on my Sydney pocket list. Creative Vietnamese cuisine. The Apple Mango Shrimp Salad really surprised me~ I originally thought it was a shredded papaya salad with maybe apple sauce or mango sauce. I didnt expect it to be a salad made of shredded apples. Also served with other strips of vegetables. The taste levels are very distinct. There are also pickled white radish, which may be pickled with apple cider vinegar and taste sweet and sour. Not to mention the fresh shrimps are very chewy and sweet. Barbecue the whole shrimp, even the shrimp paste is retained. Only when it is fresh can you speak loudly. The Vietnamese pho soup must be the most on point~it contains beef slices~pork scalp~pork chunks~chicken sausage (cut into two pieces). It is rich and delicious. The key point is that his hot sauce is so smooth! I dont eat hot sauce. As soon as he ate the whole bowl was added to him. There are few restaurants where I can write so many thoughts! Haha. It was so late to learn about it. Highly recommended for everyone to enjoy

We sampled mostly from the entree menu as we wanted to try as many dishes as possible, it was perfect for sharing and allowed us to fit in cocktails as well Food was well presented and tasty, we had an enjoyable meal. The reason I gave you a 4 is because 1) we ordered VN Terrine but never got the opportunity to try it (think you mightve left it off our order as we werent charged for it and, 2) all viet restaurants need fresh hot chillies (yes, you can tell were asian lol)
