very nice funky decor, definitely quite loud and sometimes found it hard to take but it was manageable. As for starters oysters were okay. fish finger baos were great and I’d definitely recommend you to order this, the fish finger was crunch and the combination of this with the bursting roe and soft bao was great. The scallops were nice and they kindly accomodate to my friend with an orange allergy. The tofu cream and the lime gave it a nice tang! The okonomoyaki was also nice ! It was quite crunchy and not too spicy The duck was the signature according to our waiter but I found it was just okay. The eggplant was cooked well and the crunch made for a great taste and texture. Dessert wise I’d skip the fried peanut butter, I found it to be a bit too heavy. The mango pudding was delicious though! I also recommend the double water cocktail if you like something a little sweet and not too strong! Service was nice.

Gorgeous restaurant in the CBD, modern and well-lit and delicious and perfect for that special catch-up. We had a girls' weekend lunch here (10 people) and we couldn't have been happier. The food was spectacular, the service was great and they went above and beyond to catere to dietary needs. 🍹 The cocktails were good, but frankly, not as creative or interesting as I'd expect for the price point. 🥦 The veggie substitutes were so good, except for two which, frankly, phoned it in. Rice with corn on top isn't quite a sub for fried rice with pork and spices and veggies and egg 🤣 ❗ It was a fixed menu, either banquet or premium and the whole table needs to agree. However, one person can do a veggie/vegan option, it just has to be the same as the rest of the table's menu level. 💰💰 Yup, it's a splurge. $98 banquet per person, $148 (I think) for the premium and cocktails averaging about $22-26. 📷 Pix include both regular and veggie banquet.

One of my favourite restaurants I have been. Looks simple from the outside, but every dish is a 9/10 or a straight up 10! And they have been consistent with their dishes every visit.

King Clarence is a great spot if you’re looking for delicious food and excellent service. The dishes were well-prepared and full of flavor. You can tell a lot of care goes into the ingredients and presentation. Every bite was enjoyable, and the menu had a good variety to choose from. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. The service definitely added to the overall experience. The only downside is that it’s quite pricey. While the quality is high, it might not be a place for everyone’s budget. Overall, King Clarence is worth visiting for a special occasion or when you feel like treating yourself.

If you love delicious food in a welcoming, clean atmosphere, this is the place for you! The service is outstanding, especially from Kylie, who greeted us with a smile from start to finish. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy a touch of Korean, Japanese, and Chinese flavors, along with a fine dining experience! :)

Highly recommend this amazing Asian fusion restaurant. We tried several dishes, and all the entrees were delicious. The flavour combinations were unique and well-executed, down to the addictive mochi peanut butter fried ice cream dessert. The service was also excellent. We arrived early, but the staff was friendly and accommodating. They quickly got us seated and took our orders. For Friday dinner, reservations are highly recommended. This popular place fills up quickly, so securing a table in advance is essential.

Came here with my friend during lunchtime on a Friday afternoon. Was not too busy when we started and the staff was very tentative, However, as it got busier during lunch, we could hardly get any service which was slightly disappointing because they started off so friendly. The entree was amazing, Great Asian authentic flavours Especially the scallop and their signature fish bun (Taste it McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish with an Asian twist) We had the steak as our main, It was cooked well Source that came with the steak was a good pairing. The Mango pudding desert we ordered was very pleasing to the eyes and it tasted as flavoursome as it looks.

The food was delicious, my faves were the king fish, dumplings, fish bao and the spanner crab fried rice. The service was great, staff were friendly and attentive. We were a little early for our booking so we were able to sit on the seats outside to order drinks. Drinks were also really good. I’d definitely come back to try the rest of the menu.

I recently dined at King Clarence with a group of five, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The service was impeccable; the waitstaff were attentive, warm, and genuinely made us feel welcome throughout the evening. The atmosphere was vibrant yet intimate, creating the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable dining experience. The food was nothing short of spectacular. The beef tartare, served with sesame crackers, was a standout fresh, flavorful, and beautifully balanced. The fish finger bao was incredibly juicy, bursting with flavor in every bite. However, the star of the night was the 14-day dry-aged duck. Perfectly cooked, tender, succulent and flavourful. While the menu leans toward the premium side, every dish justifies its price with outstanding quality and portion sizes. King Clarence blends Asian flavors with modern techniques, creating dishes that are innovative. Every plate was thoughtfully presented and tasted as good as it looked. If you re a fan of Asian fusion cuisine, this place is an absolute must-try. Highly recommend!

The food, particularly the entrees/starters, were very good. Zippy, bright flavours. Definitely no complaints in that regard. Service was attentive and excellent. I dug the decor, energy and atmosphere of the venue. I echo the pricing comments - most of the food seemed to be quite expensive for what you got. My partner and I walked away feeling that we could have probably eaten more. Weve definitely been a lot fuller for less at equivalent restaurants/price points. We ordered based on staff-recommended quantities. Cocktails were fun and tasty, but quite pricey. Would come back, but perhaps for a special occasion.

Entire experience was wonderful. Professional and friendly service, nothing was too much or a problem for the staff. Food was exquisite. Not only catered to some specific food requests but offered and insisted it was no problem. Created a fabulous non-alcoholic drink based on suggestion. Would highly recommend.

We had the banquet menu and every dish tasted so good!! Potato okonomiyaki, wagyu and clay pot rice definitely stood out. Steak was so tender and juicy. They also had good atmosphere and service. Will definitely be back.

December 18, 2024

The service was terrible and slow. The food was served too slowly. The waiter brought the wrong dish, which caused us to wait for a long time for our food. Because they only serve the next dish until we finished eating. There was no communication between them, and they thought we were still enjoying the previous dish. Not only was the food served slowly, but even a coke was served to me 15 minutes later.

The restaurant is very loud (why do Australians always have to shout and scream to prove they have a good time?). But the main issue is with the food. The menu is attractive, with many smaller dishes. Unfortunately, they all taste very similar. The cooking is solid, but far from spectacular.

The Wagyu beef and Peking duck were exceptional. However, the service was a bit disappointing. We ordered a few dishes that were highly recommended by our waiter, but two of them were completely forgotten. Additionally, it felt like we were treated differently because we didnt order alcoholic beverages. While the food is top-notch, the service could definitely use some improvement.

Overall good experience, but I had higher expectations given this was awarded two hats by good food guide 2024. This was our first time visiting, and we ordered 13 dishes from the menu and had some very good hits and some quite bad misses. In all honesty, had this been just a dinner date between my husband and I, this review probably would have been a 5 star review. We would have only ordered dishes that we would tend to order anywhere else, such as the oysters, hiramasa kingfish, steak tartare, fish finger baos, wagyu steak, duck tsukune. These were all well put together with balanced flavours and textures and thoroughly enjoyable. Tonight we were here for a small company staff Christmas party and unfortunately, this meant we ordered quite a few more dishes other than the ones above, and they were rather disappointing or just average. The prawn har gao were mushy, thick-skinned, lacked texture and prawn flavor. The clay pot rice did not have any signature burnt bits. The XO pipis were very disappointing, overly salty with no XO flavor and piled on top of mushy vermicelli. The bossam pork belly was very good with perfect crackling, but I wouldve found tastier accompanying sauces, kimchi and pickles in my own fridge at home or at the local Asian grocery. Staff were very friendly, service was great and the dishes arrived with good timing and in the right order. Cocktails were also delicious and arrived promptly with the entrees even though it was a full house. Tonight it was a rather warm humid night and being seated in the disco ball room, it was slightly uncomfortable as the air con did not quite reach that little alcove even with the blinds open, but we did have a little privacy which we enjoyed. I would return but for selected dishes only.

If I had come here with just my wife and ordered the stand out dishes I may have given KC a five out of five. However we came with our staff and wanted more variety, and unfortunately we were let down by some poor dishes which brought the rating down. Dishes that we would have given 5 stars were: - Oysters. Great gastric style sauce to offset the creaminess of the Sydney rock oysters - Kingfish carpaccio. Thicker cut pieces of hiramasa (amberjack) kingfish in a delightful ponzu style sauce. The thicker pieces give a great mouthfeel and more flavour per piece as the subtle flavour of kingfish can easily be drowned by a salty sour sauce. - Fish finger baos. Imagine a filet of fish, but instead of a steamed milk bun, replaced with a Taiwanese style bao instead. Add more fennel to the tartare sauce and then top with American style burger cheese and plump salty ikura. This was a favourite amongst our group. - Beef tartare. Quintessential Sydney dish done well, served with a prawn cracker infused with seaweed and generous sprinklings of furikake. Dishes we did not like: - Pipis. This was easily the worse dish. In hindsight we should have sent this dish back to the kitchen to see if the flavour delivered was what they were going for. It was way too sour, and tasted like a Thai larb salad. The pipis were over-cooked and very very chewy. - Claypot rice. This was a straight up no. Once again way too sour and the lap cheong had nowhere near enough fat to offset it. There was also not enough crunchy bits of rice either. Other dishes we had that were good but not GFG 2 hat restaurant good were: - Prawn Dumplings. I enjoyed these hargows cooked with butter however they were not 2 hat quality. - Duck Tsukune. These were fun and presented nicely to resemble a Bunnings sausage sizzle. Quite delicious - Crab fried rice. Quite moist, even though it looks quite dry. Order this if you need the extra carbs. - Wagyu steak. This was quite flavoursome and I would order this again. - Siu yuk ssam. A fusion of Cantonese pork belly served like a Korean bo-ssam. The pork belly was really good and this dish would have been better served with some jellyfish salad and mustard dipping sauce. The gochujang and mayonnaise did not do the pork any justice. Also the use of radicchio looked nice but did not add to the enjoyment of the dish. Getting two hats on the guide elevated my expectations. I expected my plates to be changed more often so Im not mixing sauces. I expected the table to be wiped down periodically so spills are not just left there for the rest of the meal. And I expected every dish to be a winner. NB For a group of 6, we did looks at the banquet menus. However the only option that included the fish finger bao was $158 pp. That would have been $948 before drinks. Our total meal was $913 including drinks. 2% surcharge on Amex, 1.5% on Visa and Mastercard Hot tip!! Get a Bentley Group gift card (24hours beforehand) and save 15%

Had all the raws. King fish and scallops were great. Beef tartare was ok, would not have again. Will not recommend the tuna, tasted rather bland. Chicken liver skewer was my favourite, duck one was ok. Fish bun was really nice but not worth $15 a piece. Glorified fish o fillet but in a good way Did not like egg plant miso, Ive had better elsewhere. Would not recommend. Had the pineapple yuzu rice cream. Im a bit conflicted. Definitely interesting but dont know if Id order again. Music and noise was a bit loud, felt like I needed to yell to talk. Overall would definitely come back to get the chicken liver again and try some other stuff.

Unique Asian inspired degustation experience in a laid back environment. The courses hit some high notes but lacked overall coherence and continuity with each dish competing with the last for attention. Staff were incredibly attentive and friendly and there was even a house DJ on the deck. It s a refreshing change from formal degustation experience but not sure I d be back anytime soon.

Food was at best average. But the pain point is the staff (to be more precise, the manager), extremely rude and racist. We couldn t book a table so we came to see our luck and were told we can have a table for 1 hour cause there was a booking later. No problem, we all agree. But then the manager (he wear the shirt instead of uniform so I assume he was the manager) asked us Do you understand what I just said? even though he was distracted when we answered the question. Extremely racist behavior even though the guy was Asian himself and this is an Asian fusion place. When we were seated, my friend place had water dripping on her head. After we finish our meal, we then notify the receptionist wearing pink shirt about the bad experience . The women then reply us with We ll take a look into that , no apologies. None Overall, DO NOT COME TO THIS RESTAURANT IF YOU UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE TREATED LIKE NOTHING. Restaurant owner, if you see this, please re-train your staff. Worst experience ever

The music was too loud, the food was underwhelming, especially for the price - the fried rice only had toppings , nothing mixed in it, the chocolate mousse tasted like it came straight from a fridge from Coles. The servers were nice but too pushy. I wouldn t go back nor recommend it. Huge disappointment.

The staff and atmosphere are top notch. The food was slightly underwhelming to expectations. The Edamame was so hot it hurt lips and airways, with zero warning, however the team did replace without the spice as was a much better experience. Would recommend no spice as it was extremely excessive. All other dishes were great. Chicken liver surprised with subtle flavour but if you dont like liver, do not do this dish. Eggplant miso was a touch soggy for my liking and too much rice bubbles topping. All fish dishes were sooo good!!

It was a dinner party for 4 on Friday and boy, did this place deliver. The star of the show was undoubtedly the Half 14 Day Aged Duck with Black Cabbage, Davidsons Plum and Radish. The duck was incredibly tender and featured a nice blend of flavours. Another standout dish was their Short Grain Claypot Rice with Char Siu Pork Jowl, Garlic Chive, and Egg Yolk. The consistently crunchy texture of the rice was a treat, complemented beautifully by the rich pork jowl and aromatic garlic chives. The restaurant was packed and buzzing with energy, which made it a lil tricky having conversation at times, but it wasn t a major issue. The DJ s music selection was on point, adding to the vibrant ambiance. Overall, a venue worth checking out.

Note: I am a long term fan of the Bentley group since the original Bentley and really love what Brent and Nick do. They have so many good places to eat and drink. But this restaurant is unlike any other in the Bentley group. It lacks the refinement and clear flavours of their other restaurants and was a real disappointment. So much confusion on each plate and sauces that overwhelm the ingredients...its just so unlike these guys. I was really disappointed and would not recommend the experience. Go to Yellow, Monopole, Bentley etc to get a real taste of just how good Bentley group can be... I just think they are targeting a different market with this restaurant and that doesnt include me. Good luck with it guys, the place was packed so theres clearly an audience that like it!!

Firstly Id like to start by saying that the food here is fantastic. The service was perfect and the vibe is excellent. The cost of the meal however leaves a lot to be desired. For two we ordered the duck ($80!!), rice, steak tartare and two fish boas and our meal came to $185 - with no drinks. This amount of food was right for two people, so it wasnt as though we over ordered. The food was great (imo not exceptional) but it absolutely did not warrant the cost. Im annoyed at myself for not looking at the menu beforehand and realizing how expensive it would be, if Id have known I wouldnt have visited. Im happy to pay for a good meal, and often visit fine dining restaurants for tasting/degustation menu. But this food isnt fine dining and it isnt at that caliber.

Food was nice, but quite expensive so be prepared to spend quite a bit ($15 per fish bao and was not worth it because it was tiny and tasted similar to Maccas fish fillet burger...). However, the service (although prompt) was disappointing and we felt uncomfortable as we were met with a condescending attitude from our waitress. When we were ordering food, the waitress said thats not going to be enough food. When we asked her what she recommended, she snapped at us and told us thats why I asked if I could explain the menu in the most passive-aggressive tone. She then resorted to recommend us to order the most expensive items on the menu, to which we felt obligated to order one of the proteins, just so she could finally take our order without having to receive any more of her contemptuous and dismissive attitude. She kept coming to our group multiple times to see if we were ready to order, even though we repeatedly told her that we still wanted more time to decide, so already from the beginning, we did not like her pushy demeanour. We were an hour into our booking when we were close to finishing our meal and the same waitress was very quick to clear the dishes, then wiped the table, and immediately after, she quickly set the bill on our table, even though our group was still deep in conversation, not even thinking about the bill and finishing our dining experience. I understand that there may be a time limit for the booking, but 1 hour in?? I dont understand the need to rush us out especially when we JUST finished the food. Let us enjoy the company ... Were not critical diners at all, and our experience at many of the restaurants (that have a similar vibe to King Clarence) in the Sydney CBD have all been very pleasant. It was a shame that the yummy food at King Clarence was ruined by the dismissive, unwelcoming service that we received from one waitress. Would not come back here or recommend to others unless you dont mind being met with pushy staff.

recently tried out this place as id seen a lot of hype, so was super keen to try it myself! - Chilled oyster, burnt onion and charcoal mignonette - Steamed prawn dumplings, supreme butter, bacon jam, fried garlic - Fish finger bao, mustard greens, pickled chilli, salmon caviar the favourite of our snacks was probably the oyster, which I actually had hoped was the fish finger bao because Id seen it everywhere on socials. I found it really lacked flavour, like a frozen fish finger topped with American cheese. idk it was really boring despite how cute it looked - Hiramasa kingfish, sweet miso, wasabi, green pea furikake - Torched Bluefin tuna, smoked tamari, onion, malt vinegar, paperbark both of these raw seafood dishes were really refreshing and smooth! no complaints - Sweet & sour kingfish collar, coriander, grilled lemon - Cucumber salad, cloud fungus, yuzu soy, pickled red radish the cucumber salad slapped but damn was that kingfish collar funky. the sweet & sour combo did not work for me, I also find the collar a pain in the ass to eat, would much rather a fillet - Half 14 day aged duck, black cabbage, Davidsons plum, radish - KCs fried rice, spanner crab, smoked scallop, white kampot pepper the duck on the other hand was a treat, both cuts of the half were tender and perfectly cooked. the tartness of the Davidsons plum was so perfect, and the rice a lovely accompaniment - Mango pudding, coconut, cultured cream, vanilla bean, passionfruit because we had a peanut allergy on the table, we couldnt get the fried peanut butter ice cream which I did want to try haha but the mango pudding was still lovely. simple but done well, and the combo of mango, coconut, vanilla and passionfruit is a no brainer. price: $158pp set menu Check out my food Instagram @erinxeats for more!

We recently celebrated our anniversary with lunch at this establishment. The reception was warm and welcoming, and the service was proactive, ensuring we felt attended to throughout our meal. However, the food was a mixed experience. The half Signature Grilled Rock Lobster, while visually appealing, was overwhelmed with corn, making the lobster itself soggy. The Miso Eggplant had a burnt flavor that overpowered the dish, and the Fried Rice, again overloaded with corn, became watery and unappealing. The lack of knives added to the frustration, as we resorted to spoons to cut through the eggplant and dumplings. On a brighter note, the sliced Wagyu scotch and prawn dumplings were standout dishes well prepared and full of flavor. The Fried Peanut Butter ice cream was passable, though the smoky flavor carried over into the dessert, which felt out of place. For the $350+ price tag, we expected a more balanced and polished dining experience. Despite a few highlights, the overall meal left room for improvement.

We had seen the amazing posts on social media and heard about all the positive reviews through word of mouth. So we went with high expectations and the entire experience did not disappoint. From the moment we were greeted to the time we stepped out of the venue, the service was fantastic. The vibrant atmosphere and comfortable setting was extremely welcomed. It was extremely relaxing and enjoyable. Last but not least, the food. Wow there was too many on the menu we wanted to try, so we ended up picking almost everything on the menu. There were items that we were familiar with but once we had tasted it, it was refreshingly different! There wasn t one dish that we didn t thoroughly enjoy! We can understand why Chef Khanh Nguyen and his entire team at King Clarence receive such high praise within the food industry. Thankyou again for such an amazing and memorable night!

Impressive decor with a cool vibe, complete with a live DJ that added energy to the night. The food was creative and delicious. A highlight was the Steak Tartare with fermented chilli, peanut, smoked oyster, and sesame an incredible balance of flavours. For dessert, the Fried Peanut Butter Ice Cream with mochi, rosella jam, and caramel was an absolute standout. I d definitely return and recommend it for a fun night out with great food.

Booked in for a birthday dinner with family and chose the banquet menu. Service was prompt and attentive with the staff knowing the menu well and asking about any allergies. No acknowledgement of birthday by the team though in case thats a priority. Comprehensive drinks menu made me sad about being the designated driver. Busy Saturday night and a mix of diners with a nice vibe. This is not your suburban Chinese restaurant nor a hushed tones fine dining experience. A round of drinks and it was easy to relax. Starters of kingfish, scallops and edamame were amazing but serving sizes for a table of 4 were surprisingly small. One plate of each for the table gave barely a taste of each. The kimchi was fresh but very mild and didnt match the other starters. The burger patty sized okonomiyaki gave less than a delicious spoonful each. The dumplings were thick skinned and bland. A rare miss there. Onto the mains and the steak was a delight with the miso sauce and horseradish condiment. The murray cod was overcooked to the point of being dry and notably small to share. The claypot rice was a hit and be sure to mix it up well as soon as it arrives so the beautifully runny egg yolk coats everything. The star of the night was the mango pudding dessert as others have proclaimed. Well done Kitchen! Overall, we enjoyed the meal and would suggest its better to order a la carte and plan to order more than expected to share.

We were up in Sydney over the long weekend and had the fortunate opportunity to dine at King Clarence. I was very excited after having dined at Aru back in Melbourne when Chef Khanh Nguyen was heading up the kitchen there, to try his latest venture in Sydney. All the small bites we had were incredible - the fish finger bao, the duck tsukune, and the chicken liver. Juicy, flavourful with great textures. The Pork belly Bossam was exactly what good pork belly should be, crispy skin and juicy tender meat accompanied with condiments, pickles and sides that really complimented the flavour. Ice, who was our server for the night was the embodiment of hospitality. He went through each item of the menu and highlighted exactly which ones we could order to accommodate for one of our parties allergies, was friendly, attentive and very artfully persuaded us into getting dessert, which we did not regret one bit. The mango pudding with the coconut sorbet was creamy and refreshing - great way to close out the meal. Absolute legend.

I would mark them a negative star if I could. But unfortunately, I have to mark them 1 star at least. A waitress there was super unfriendly and misled us by all means. We ordered a fried rice at the cost of 30 dollar but we had been billed the $45 one, they were very happy to prepare the expensive type for you whatever you happy or not. For another dish, we asked if this dish will be served as a whole fish and the waitress lady confirmed, but it turned out only 4 pieces fish meat on the plate. When I read those low marks about this restaurant in Google review today, I find there are so many customers in my situation , take a look on those reviews. There are so many great restaurants in Sydney, King Clarence is the only one I have to mark low star here, keep away from it forever.

October 23, 2024

Terrible service. I politely asked for a bowl and one of the waiter wearing glasses, black shirt and trousers in his mid 50s told me this restaurant only used plates in an impolite way. As i have already accepted the fact that the restaurant may not serve bowls, he continued to embarrass my party and I and repeated 4 times that the restaurant does not serve bowls. This was a shame and disappointing as I had heard good things about the food and overall vibe. However this dining experience was somewhat salvaged as another server overheard our conversation and went into the kitchen and fetched us a bowl. I really hope the server who ruined our dining experience may read this, and improve on his table side manners, as it will be disappointing for the restaurant s overall reputation.

I was really excited after seeing all the positive reviews on Instagram, but unfortunately, the experience didn t live up to the hype. We ordered the steak tartare, which was quite small compared to other places at the same price point. The egg noodles tasted overwhelmingly of soy sauce and nothing else. The Goolwa Pippies had a bitter flavour, and half the dish was just rice vermicelli noodles at the bottom. The Potato Okonomiyaki was the only dish that stood out. :(

Skin of pork belly was very crispy. The fish finger bao was super juicy . Will be back for more. UPDATE SEP 2024 I came back again and was very disappointed so I probably will not be back again. Everything was soooo OVERLY salted. The pippies were disappointing. The salty and sour sauce was nice and would have worked but they put 3x too much sauce on the pippies, the fresh seafood was drowning in the sauce so you couldn t even taste the freshness of the pippies anymore. Egg noodles was the worst !!!! That was doused in its soy sauce , absolutely unpalatable, it felt like I was eating soy sauce and MSG directly from the bowl. The only thing that remained of standard was the fish bao. We sat in the secluded corner where there was a big birthday party of about 12+ people(directly next to the lobster tank). Acoustics was so bad that we were shouting across the table just between our party of 4 and I couldn t hear myself talking to the waiter when ordering. I just wanted to get out of there immediately. The server was nice but he lacked the energy when serving us. He felt tired and gave off a couldn t be bothered energy. Very disappointed. Portions also seemed smaller than before (very slightly) Do not order dumplings, it s disgusting

Where do I even begin! I truly believe you could just close your eyes and point at any item on the menu and be completely blown away. It was great to dine in a small group - to try as many dishes as we possibly could. Each dish was truly distinct from the next, and had their own Wow moments with each of those first bites. I loved the little nods to nostalgic foods we have all loved - from the Bunnings snag, to the fillet o fish but so darn fancy and tastier than you could ever imagine. A great wine list and sommelier was the cherry on top. My summary: World class, exceptional food and service without the stuffiness or pretentiousness you d normally expect at this level of dining. It s hard to pick the standout dish for me maybe the Kingfish, the Mapo Tofu or the best pork belly I ve ever tasted or maybe I ll just have to go back and try them all again to be sure ;)

I have been to Sunda in Melbourne where chef Khanh clocked hours prior to King Clarence. The snacks are a classic riff on the food that we have had growing up.. but with finesse and top par ingredients. Burramundi fish baos, a familiar flavour that takes you to McDonald s but elevated with fluffy baos and salmon caviar. The duck tsukune, I assume.. is a take on the Bunnings snag but lush! Signature dish of 14 day dry aged duck, although on the pricier side of $80, is worth every dollar (fyi - a lot of work goes into the duck). I was initially quite skeptical due to the mixed reviews mentioning about it, but IGNORE.. And immense your tastebuds with the sticky molass-y glazed duck legs and crisp skin breast with perfectly cooked meat. The claypot rice was another dish that is worth mentioning, the bottom crunch was just perfect, and it takes skill for the crunchy bits not to stick to your teeth. Chasiu, lapcheong, aromats - yum! Hats off and kudos to chef Khanh and the kitchen team at King Clarence. Thank you!

Stunning. The family came down to Sydney and we decided to visit King Clarence. Absolutely incredible. Each dish was well executed; The oysters married with a burnt onion dressing, Cured kingfish, ginger dressing and pea furikake, The seductive fish finger baos, Peppery chicken liver skewers with Vegemite? More please. Chef Khahns snack game is not to be trifled with. The courses that followed did not disappoint; Egg noodles and black garlic, Pippies in XO, Mapo tofu and steamed rice. The duck. Their signature main. The smokey duck breast, its crispy skin. The sticky plum glaze on the duck legs, black kale dressed in a sauce that leaves you wanting more. For our sweet tooth; we finished with the peanut butter fried ice cream. Parfait wrapped in mochi coated with a peanut crumb, a delight to my inner child. . The food was sublime. A really great place for dinner. It is top tier, from a rating perspective Im comparing it to places like Bennelong, Ruse and lilymu, so the fact its in that tier of restaurant should say how good it is. Food is very comparable to lilymu and probably a bit better. The portions are great, and the service amazing, they even went to the extra effort to recognise my partners birthday without asking. I would absolutely recommend king Clarence, its just not quite as good as some other fine dining places(hence 4 and not 5 stars).

We had the fish bao (absolute standout), dumplings (much juicier than expected!), potato okonomiyaki (as expected kinda like a hash brown but with stuff on top), egg noodles (kinda reminded me of indomee with black garlic), eggplant (nice but I think it could be bigger given it s a main kinda like the other jap fusion places that do it I guess), wagyu (very nice that s all I can say). I paired it with the SA Grenache which in all fairness was my own mistake because it was too light for the wagyu but good experience overall. ^for two people

We paid over $680.- for 3 persons including tips. Food is a bit over imagined and not necessary. If the produces are of the highest quality, present it well . It will tastes great by itself, rather than over dramatised the produces in creating a so-called creative dish and results Table setting for the price??? There is Zero table setting, no table cloths, zero atmosphere. I considered its Interior Decor / Design is Cost-measured, ZERO atmosphere / ambiance, Zero Sound acoustic considerations. NOISY when it s 85% full. Staffs services is okay, we tip them more than 10% services as good manners measures. Will I return for another meal? No, because I can easily cook much better. My hair caught on fire at this restaurant and the staff made a joke about it. Yes, you read that correctly. As a lover of great food, I was very excited to celebrate my birthday at King Clarence on the 6th of July after hearing great reviews. On the day, I was waiting in line to use the bathroom when I smelt something burning, I turned to the mirror and realised a naked flame caught my hair and cardigan on fire. It was going up in flames. The candle is protruding out of the ledge and where one would naturally stand to wait for a cubicle (see image). I immediately alerted the staff that the open flame is extremely dangerous and that my hair/cardigan got caught on fire. Staff A offered me a glass of water and towel and asked me if I had a comb to brush my hair out. No one went back into the bathroom to blow out or move the candle so I did it myself to prevent others from getting hurt. This whole experience was extremely traumatising and upsetting. At no point during the dinner did a manager come out to acknowledge that my hair was on fire. By the end of the main course, my hair is dry, crisp, smelt disgustingly burnt and visibly shorter on one side. As I was attempting to brush out my hair with my fingers, more and more parts of my hair fell off. Its been two days and my hair still smells burnt. You can see the image for how much hair Ive lost. The final kicker was because it was my birthday, my birthday surprise (see image) was brought out with a candle and Staff B made a joke in bad taste watch out for the flame. It was now clear that management/other staff were aware that my hair had caught on fire but instead of checking up on me, they made a joke at my expense. Im writing this review to share my experience.

The standout dish of the day was undoubtedly the wood-roasted pork belly. It was cooked to perfection, with a crispy exterior that gave way to succulent, tender meat that was absolutely to die for. Equally impressive were the pippies in lemongrass XO sauce with rice vermicelli. The dish was divine, bursting with flavor and offering a delightful combination of textures. The clay pot rice was another highlight, with its delightful crunch and deliciously seasoned grains. Each bite was a testament to the chef s skill and attention to detail. However, not every dish hit the mark. The 14-day aged duck, while flavorful, was a bit chewy and would have benefited from being served with a knife. Additionally, the wok-fried greens, though fresh, were overly oily, which slightly detracted from their appeal. Despite these minor hiccups, the overall lunching experience at King Clarence was top-notch. The attentive service and the quality of the majority of the dishes ensure that I will definitely be back for another visit. King Clarence is a gem that should not be missed!

Came for a late lunch with group booking of 10. The food was impeccable *Chefs KISS* and quite rightfully so when the head chef is the talented Khanh Nguyen (previously from Sunda and Aru in Melb). Their service was attentive, friendly and professional. Standout dishes were the Waygu beef, 14 day dry aged duck, clay pot fried rice and of course the Coffee Dulce de Leche ice cream sandwich.

Amazing experience. Service was so warm and personable and food was out of this world. Everything we had was genuinely delicious and cooked to perfection but special stand outs would have to have been the 14 day aged duck, crispy clay pot rice and mango pudding dessert. Chef Khanh Nguyen has done it again!

Absolutely loved my experience at King Clarence. It was my first time and I didnt know what to expect, but I was blown away. The service was delightful, the food was great and everyone was so lovely. I particularly enjoyed the Potato Okonomiyaki which I was looking forward to all week! The Miso Eggplant & Kingfish Sashimi were also highlights for me. Definitely recommend to come with a group and share the dishes.

Thank you to the amazing head chef at King Clarence! It was my 30th birthday on Saturday, and I had the best time celebrating with my close friends. The food was outstanding, and so well paired with all its components. You can tell there was a lot of thought behind the menu items as everything was seamless in its taste and execution. Of course, coming to a place like this, you expect to pay a premium price for the quality and taste. The chef was so generous as to waive the cake fee as well, which was a lovely addition to an already amazing night. Thank you so much!

Went for a friends birthday dinner. The place was bopping with live DJs, mood lights, and exceptional staff. From our first step in, we were treated with personalised service, and the lovely staff made sure to keep checking in our evening. Chef Khanh and his team looked after us, ensuring every bite was savoured. I would highly recommend the Chicken Liver Skewers with the Vegemite twist! So good!! 10/10 would do again!

The staff were very attentive and made sure to check in with us every so often, which was lovely. Everything we ordered was marvellous, I particularly recommend the Beef tartare, the Okonomiyaki and the Claypot rice.

Maybe time to change most of the chopsticks, the coating is falling off. Would be good to put a coaster to differentiate between tap and sparking, the waitress poured sparking to my tap water. Super salty for most of the things that we tried. But I liked the 14-days duck.

I have always been a big fan of Chef Khanh. I regret didn t try King Clarence earlier. The food was amazing, very thoughtful Chef Khanh actually came to our table to say hi and gave us some extra dish. He explained the food very well as I can see the passion he has for food. You can feel all the food was made with heart. Every food has a bit of twist between asian and western, and all of them stands out. Very tasty and delicious. The service was great, there were DJ played music. Wine, cocktails, everything is literally 10/10. I can t wait to come back as soon as possible.

Superb! Does Asian fusion well and clay pot rice with its crispy bits was THE stand out and so was their mango dessert. Awesome banquet selection to showcase their menu and generous. Understated decor and ambience so its not too hectic and loud - add this one to your must check it out list

The customer service here is ridiculously top tier. I would dine in here to eat cardboard just for the service Then the food! We ordered the banquet for 2 and I loved all the dishes but the beef tartare was not my favourite. The flavours did not match in my humble opinion maybe consider more zestyness and less heartyness for such a light dish? Still 5/5 for this dish though (crazy I know! But even my least favourite was a 5/5) My favourite favourite was the fish bun with caviar Atmosphere was amazing loved to watch the city buildings under the warm red lightening. The live DJ was also playing some musical bangers (you go glencoco!) Thank you definitely see you again ****For parking the nearest we found is on King street then walk through skittle lane (2 min walk) - parking not free ($30) after 5pm but convenient.

Fish Finger Bao - the soupy middle grabs you by surprise 2. Duck tsukune - wow. 3. Kingfish 4. Crab rice 5. Pork belly 6. Potato okonomiyaki Found the food really reasonably priced also. When fusion is done right, it takes your palette on a beautiful journey. King Clarence does just that and more. We had the $95pp Banquet (as well added the King fish collar and Moreton bay bug special of the day) which consisted of the following: Wood Fired Edamame, Salt and Vinegar Togarashi House Made Cabbage Kimchi, Ginger, Garlic Chives, Coriander Root Steamed Pork & Prawn Dumplings, Supreme Butter, Bacon Jam, Fried Garlic Abrolhos Island Scallops, Sunrise Lime, Tofu Cream, Nori Hiramasa Kingfish, Sweet Miso, Wasabi, Green Pea Furikake Potato Okonomiyaki, Bulldog Hot Sauce, Seaweed Ranch, Cured Yolk - Murray Cod, Ma La Tang, Sugarloaf Cabbage, Peanut Wagyu Sirloin MB5, Chickpea Miso, Horseradish Oroshi, Sweet Soy Cucumber Salad, Cloud Fungus, Yuzu Soy, Pickled Red Radish Short Grain Claypot Rice, Char Siu Pork Jowl, Garlic Chive, Egg Yolk - Mango Pudding, Coconut, Cultured Cream, Vanilla Bean, Passionfruit The standout/must order dishes were the pork dumplings, scallops and claypot rice. You also can t skip out on dessert as the mango pudding is out of this world. The wagyu sirloin however was the only disappointment as it was very tough despite it being advertised as MB5 cut. The sauce also lacked a depth of flavour compared to the rest of the dishes. All in all, it s safe to say I will definitely be back at King Clarence (and next time I will definitely get the fish finger bao and roasted duck)!

Great experience. My friend took me there after an event at the Machine Hall 50m away. I didn t know what to expect and it was such a great surprise. It was « truffle » week, so we chose a few dishes that were on the Specials list. The highlight was the wagyu beef skewer on toast with shaved truffle. Delish! We had the bao buns, some tuna in a beautiful broth, the cod, a noodle dish with artichoke chips which was amazing and for dessert the plum granita with matcha ice cream. Overall a beautiful experience. Our waiter Ivan was great. Good recommendations from him. He knows his stuff and he looked really happy to be there.

Recently enjoyed a faultless dining experience at King Clarence. All the dishes were delicious, gorgeous to look at and well considered. You can tell a lot of thought has gone into the menu which results as treats for both the eyes and tastebuds. The service was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. We felt like the center of attention even though the whole dining room was buzzing and lively. There was a nice vibe with a DJ providing the soundtrack which made things fun but the volume wasnt so loud that you couldnt have a good conversation. Our party also had some dietary requirements and they were very accommodating. They currently have a few menu additions for truffle season and Id highly recommend getting in ASAP to try them before theyre gone. This place ticks all the boxes, will be back soon
