1/2-12 Angel Pl, Sydney NSW 2000, Australia
Contemporary Italian cuisine served in a fashionable restaurant that has a terrace.
We wandered around looking for a good place to have dinner and, after not choosing several decided to try this wonderful place on Angel street. The food and service were exceptional and we loved the ambiance. Special thanks to Michael who served us.
We were lucky to get an outdoor table on an unseasonably warm evening for a pre theatre meal. Outstanding service from the Manager and her team. Down to earth, friendly and efficient. And the food was first class. Beautifully prepared, fresh and really good, and I don't say that lightly. The wine list for wines by the glass was made up of carefully chosen wines and for the quality very reasonably priced. We will be back for a full evening meal. Highly recommended.
평쫌울 꼮 믿웅생용 쟁발.강성 졍쳥럼 됸냥뷔항쥥 말앙형 Today's dinner was the worst I've ever had. It was my first time experiencing such tasteless, barely edible pasta. When ordering, my partner and I chose the kingfish entree and a pasta as a sub-main. However, when the waitress questioned if that would be enough, we explained that this was our second restaurant of the evening and we had already eaten a bit elsewhere, so it should suffice. The kingfish we received was overwhelmed by parsley, making it impossible to taste anything else, and the final pasta had absolutely no seasoning on the noodles. The essence of pasta lies in the flavor of the noodles, but this was truly shocking after just one bite. The pork neck, pasta, and sauce were all disjointed. We must have come in with too high expectations because we even planned to try the tiramisu afterward, but we decided to skip it after this disappointment. Oh also, among casual fine dining establishments, this place is probably unique in not even providing any description of the dishes they serve.
Outstanding lunch today at Restaurant Leo. Staff were kind enough to bring a high chair out for our baby and drag over an umbrella to give us shade during our outdoor lunch. Food was delicious. Not your typical “Spag bol” kind of Italian, but also not pretentious/fine-dining - a happy medium of amazing entrees of Beef Tartare and Kingfish, and perfectly made pasta dishes. Unfortunately I was too full to enjoy dessert (and I had to rush back to the office), but I would happily recommend and return here. And for the love of God, order the bread.
Absolutely delicious pastas and starters! Pasta portion sizes are more decent than other fancy Italian joints I’ve been to. It’s just decent good Italian food. The atmosphere on the other hand lacks a little bit of a vibe or ambience, but all in all a great place for some good food. Star dishes were the lemon calamari pasta which was perfectly balanced and took our whole table by surprise, along with the crab pasta which is a clear winner for any seafood lovers. You’ll definitely be able to taste the crab throughout.
A fancy bit of Sydney right here. Lovely restaurant, truly a tidy little place. We can for mother's day dinner and was very satisfied. The flavours were all very clean, exquisite and left you wanting more. Particularly the veal main, the heirloom tomatoes and the zucchini flowers were quite delicious. We also went with the cod, the beef shin and the beef tartare. Very well portioned. Very well presented. Staff and service were great. Can't fault them. Perfect atmosphere for the night for a couple or a family outing.
Probably a solid 3.5 - Gave it a 4 as it should get the benefit of the doubt. The food was pretty good. The steak, while very expensive, was delicious. The only things holding it back were the ambiance (it feels a little cheap) and the pasta. Personally, it was a little under seasoned (could have done with some pepper/parmesan) which is ok, but it was definitely undercooked. I like al dente, but this was raw in the middle unfortunately.
Absolutely amazing food, wine and services. Not one dish disappoints!!! The wine is also amazing. The staff is extremely friendly and lovely. The food is just impeccable. I would say one of the best restaurants in the CBD. Be crazy if anyone leaves bad comments for this GEM!
Food was terrible, actually inedible. Service was great until we had finished our meal.
Excellent food and great service. We asked for no chilli, but dish came with chilli. They apologies, brought a bigger serve with no chilli and offered to take it off the bill. Great atmosphere. Not too loud. Food : 5/5
Beautiful place for couples or groups of friends. Really enjoyed the food. Very delecious. I recommend 100%
Best Vitello Tonnato ever. Friendly service Very good wine list. Food : 5/5
Really bad
Definitely a great restaurant to go to with great food and outstanding service .
Great experience at Léo restaurant
Great food & best service. We enjoyed the night out!!
Everything is perfect!!!
It was such a pleasant experience and great service. You will have a great memory with people you love.
Was amazing great service
Thank you for this lovely dinner. The food and service were perfect! well come back
Very beautiful place to eat homemade pastas , the tiramisu is amazing very tasty
A wonderful dining experience. Superb food, excellent service, absolutely perfect. Well done Food
The staff kindly accommodated us even though we had a short time until a performance at the Recital Hall. Fabulous pork ragu pasta and a great wine list. Well definitely go again Food
Good service.
All good we enjoyed the food the company was the best, that was BYO so the atmosphere had to good good place to eat God bless.
Nice dinner with friends - the buffalo mozzarella tomato salad was very nice and the pork belly was good - dessert had the pear tart - good wine list, great service enjoyable evening
Wonderful service, buzzing with atmosphere and delicious food.
Rude Italian staff
I had a fantastic pasta here. I can taste the pasta is freshly made. Bread rolls also freshly baked, however the butter is out of this world! You can t go wrong for pasta and rolls as Italian restaurant. Not only that, the veal was also fantastic. This is one of the place that I will definitely come back. Sorry I forgot to take photo. We ordered: rolls with butter, strozzapreti, veal and beer. All fantastic!
Staff is incompetent, rude, or both. We waited 60 min for our pasta, it never arrived. Staff very unhelpful.
Food was great. And service A+. Would fine here again
Love the place!
Very disappointed with this place. The main issue is I m plant based/vegan and when I arrived I asked if there was vegan options ( lots of veggie options but not vegan). Thinking that a good chef should be able to make a nice vegan pizza or pasta. The waiter who really didn t understand asked the chef and came back and said yes chef will make a vegan pizza and the pizza ended up being a bowl of tomatoes and peaches in oil! Very disappointing for 2023 and when I said this the manager was very rude and said we do not care for vegans . I think she meant we do not cater for vegans. She also told me that Italians do not eat vegan! I said but I do and she did not care and just was so rude and told me I should have given her notice. Very disappointing that there is not one option for vegans. A plain pizza with veggies would be so easy to make and have on the menu. Also every wine we ordered they had non in stock! Admittedly it was two weeks before Christmas and it was a last min booking but still very disappointing. Definitely would not recommend this place if you have dietary requirements or if you want good customer service!
Even though he was busy, he responded well and let me in.
This place is amazing for the food and the service! Everyone is friendly. Specially Camille! Thank you for lovely night
I went with my girlfriend for dinner here. We weren t super hungry so we just got some oysters, a pasta each and a bottle of wine. The staff was lovely but I felt that they were a bit understaffed as it took us a while to get our food and pepper. I had the crab pasta, which was delicious. I d come back again when my soul yearns for some decent pasta.
Probably one of the most underwhelming restaurants I ve been too. Inattentive staff, desert that took 20 minutes, 3 entrees + wine was $170. Not good value. Cheapest wine $70 and the waiter said it s very dry as if trying to get me to buy a more expensive wine. Overall will not be going back and plenty of better options.
Great location, good food and friendly staff. Shame I forgot to take photos of the food, but they look and taste amazing. Will be definitely coming back for more :)
Despite being understated, it impressed me with their excellent service. The staff handled the situation gracefully, ensuring a positive dining experience. Kudos To the team for their hard work and friendly attitude. I will definitely be back to enjoy more of their great service and delicious food!
Came here for dinner one night. The staff were initially a bit dismissive of us, I m not sure if they were just busy helping other people but I felt a bit ignored. Once seated, they were relatively good I guess. The food here was pretty good, but servings were small. Also, be aware that the online menu isn t really updated so it s likely that it is different to what is on the site. Would I come here again? I m not too sure - my first impressions of the service and staff were a bit off putting but the food was good, so I don t know. The spanner crab and maccheroncini was really nice, and so was the chocolate tortino (a bit like a lava cake)
Amazing dining experience! Food was delicious (Burrata was one of the best we ever tried) and service was just perfect, really friendly staff with lot of good advices Camille and Francesco were amazing Just go and enjoy!
Really beautiful Italian food, understated, of the highest quality. I should have taken more photos on the night, but my friend and I were too enamoured of the food. Much better than the overly hyped Bar Totti s, they take their food seriously in the best way. We started with oysters which wonderfully fresh and had the crudo which was such a delight in terms of texture and flavour. And then, the pasta. Oh my. We had ordered one serve of the pork ragu and once we started eating it, we had to ask for another serving. Perfectly cooked, and mesmerising flavours that made you keep coming back for more. Utterly utterly gorgeous. Service was lovely, nothing to fault, warm and attentive. In a city heaving with Italian restaurants, when I say I would love to come back, thats a real compliment.
One of the best gastronomic experiences in Sydney. Great location for a relaxing pause when shopping.
I am so happy
Nice experience! Location lovely from the outside, food was good and portions on average. Wine a bit expensive
My wife and I visited this restaurant on Friday March 10th, and We were extremely disappointed with the service. the staff was dismissive and made us feel ignored; there was no eye contact at all. The food was not served in time , even when the table next to us arrived after us but received their food long before we did. we suspect that their might have been a mix-up in the kitchen or the staff was understaffed. Worst of all , the staff was neither apologetic nor helpful when we raised our concern . When we complained about the slow service and mentioned that some other tables ordered after us but were served way before, we were surprised to hear the waiter being smart by asking whether we have ever been to fine resturants before. What did he mean by that? Yes we have been to many fine restaurants, and dine out frequently. After we complained the manager told us that our dishes were plating then but didnt apologize for the delay. we haf to wait another 20 minutes and during that time our appetite was gone. The food was not bad , but given the situation we couldnt enjoy it. My wife lost her appetite and left half of her dish untouched. It was one of our worst two-hours dining experience ever. To change our mood , We went to Four Seasons Hotel nearby for dessert which was a wise decision. Writing these lines does not fully emphasize our disappointment with the service and the staffs attitude . I will be reacjing out to the management personally to get to the bottom of this. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone I know and If you plan on going there , be ready to be ignored and insulted.
Delicious Italian food. The tagliatelle with Scampi was to die for! Wine was a little pricey, but a great selection. Staff were lovely. Will def recommend and return.
We had great food and time there! Their homemade ciabatta bread is so nice! Pasta is delicious!
Never had a ciabatta as tasty as the one I got served at Leo. Also had a pasta which was really really good. Friendly waitresses. Dietary restrictions: I dont eat meat and mushrooms and they adjusted a dish to be vegetarian and without mushrooms.
Awkward then cringeworthy service from the moment we popped up for a walk-in table to paying. Had high expectations as we didnt get to try Oscillating. Gawdy waitress who checked if tables were available like walk-in diners were unwanted guests. Loud obnoxious waitress assigned to us unfortunately, shocking us throughout the night, running laughing shrieking when some other guests popped up, who then grubbily grabbed our cash off the table without even asking if we were tipping or wanting change, while loudly talking to others and half paying attention. We even got a fright when she came up to us to take our order. The food tasted bland and was not memorable for me, my friend said the venison? (or some red meat) was excellent, overall the presentation was nice. But none of that was enough to offset the lack of flavour and bad vibes. And keeping our change without asking was just vulgar! Ok yes lockdowns crippled the hospo industry and good waiters became hard to find so they probably did the best with what mediocre people were applying for jobs???
Awesome pastas and other dishes were super tasty too especially the beef tartare and tiramisu. Definitely would recommend this place. Great service!
Honestly one of the best meals I ve had, run don t walk. The atmosphere of this place is so comforting and the food matches that. Truly the best pasta I ve had! Ordered the ravioli and it was so smooth and tasty that it was like I was tasting ravioli for the first time. The wine was beautiful and to top it all off, the tiramisu was to die for! So light and airy, incredible taste of coffee and cream, you d wish there was more. We were so happy to snag a 7pm table on a Saturday night and to see the place busy and thriving. Thank you Camille and Leo team! We hope to be back soon.
Wonderful place. Experience yo be done in Sydney
Impeccable service, very professional staff Homemade pasta is amazing The best pasta I ate in Sydney
Without a doubt one of the best authentic Northern/Milanese - style Italian restaurants in Sydney period. The sauces are rich and painstakingly made. The portions are balanced and sufficient. The deftness and freshness of the seafood. This is real handmade food, made with care and love. It is not for everyone. Each dish is meant to represent its own identity. It is not your suburban Italian. Parking: Its the city mate. Ripoff parking on Pitt Street, pick which testicle you want squeezed.
Price is high, therefore the expectation is high as well. Have diahrrea after having the prawn pasta, dont know if its the food or Im allergic to something
Nice food and service
The food was exceptionally good. Over our expectation. The service was excellent, fast and attentive to detail. The male staff are handsome and the female staff is so cool.
Not often do I write about dissatisfaction however last night at @restaurant_leo I have to say .. this wss a dinning experience that did not live up to its supposed one chefs hat rating. Staff were friendly so nothing wrong there, pastas were under seasoned and were the best thing we ordered, the pictured Veal Scaloppine, well do your own research, but imo was not veal Scaloppine - Scaloppine are lean slices of veal (though sometimes also pork or turkey), often lightly flattened with a meat pounder, cooked in a sauce. It s ok to create your version of a dish, However hold some level of comparison to the original or traditional dish. I was looking forward to this dish, a seared piece of veal cut in half with an underwhelming Lemon and Saffran sauce for $40. Not in any Nonna or Nonno s kitchen was this Scaloppine. I won t get into the Panna Cotta or the lop sided Tiramisu (which was probably the best dish of the night.)
Great pizzas on a Monday and the tiramisu is amazing
One of the best Italian restaurants Ive been in Sydney. Service was great, atmosphere was amazing, but the highlight of this experience is the butter, and the pastas. Will come back just for the butter.
Friendly service Really nice ambience Delicious meals Will definitely go back again Food : 5/5 |
Very nice people! The food is also delicious, if a bit expensive, but definitely worth it!
This is, in my opinion, the best Italian in the CBD. Excellent quality menu, amazing Italian wine list, and spot-on service. Enjoy!
Food was fancy-restaurant-excellent. Good service. Location is charming, but the interior decor somewhat unappealing. Table cloths would add a nice touch.
The waiters were very bad. The wait for the food was an hour and a half and the food was very salty
Expensive but fabulous food. Banquet menu has too much for a normal human to eat!
The crab pasta was really delicious. The noodles were soft and the scent of the bisque sauce was very sweet and fragrant. The variety of pizza was so-so.. but the pasta was really delicious!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope you try the cacio pepe too!! I want to go again next time and try the main dishes!!
My friend and I just stumbled upon this place and we thought why not. Best find I ve had in a long time, we ordered a pasta each and two sides and everything was phenomenal. Don t get me started on that tiramisu, my friend is Italian and she said it was hands down the best tiramisu she s ever had!
It was really delicious!!! The pasta was the most delicious, and the oysters, zucchini, steak, etc. were all great! The staff were friendly and it was a very pleasant meal. However, the lighting and atmosphere were a bit disappointing. I think it would be much more popular if they paid a little more attention to it, but the atmosphere doesnt match the food. The song is also strange...a country song? Its like that haha. There are a lot of hot places nearby, so there were relatively few customers, but the food seems to be better than other nearby restaurants. I think it would be nice if they just improved the atmosphere a bit.
Great pasta. Great wine. Great Tiramsu. What more do you want Food : 5/5 |
We went for dinner at Leo s early evening prior to going to the Opera. The service was 11/10! You can specify you have a show after dinner on their booking system. The host was lovely. She made the effort to speak with me in French when she picked up I was French native. Our waiters were also great: they explained the menu in detail and made some recommendations based on timing. The food was excellent. My pasta was cooked al dente and the pork ragu was beautiful. We had a great time. We enjoyed beautiful food and we were on time for our show!
We recently came here for a work lunch and had an amazing experience. Yasmin was so so lovely and made our lunch a true delight. Will be back for sure!
Loved the food and service but the portion is truely tiny I really can finish the risotto with 2 spoons. Flavour was amazing but we (4 of us) left with half full stomachs, after 2 cocktails each person, shared 3 entrees, 3 mains and 2 desserts..
Excellent food, friendly staff, nice location. My partner and I enjoyed our meal here, the dishes were high quality and portion sizes were decent for fine dining. The crudo was superb and delicious, and the semifreddo was sublime. Will definitely return in the future!
Highly recommend the Wagyu and Pasta! Definitely want to visit again.
Came to visit for a catch up with group of 5 people. Lovely ambience with the low lit environment, however the service was slightly lacking a bit. Food came out quite slow and the wait staff forgot about my friends glass of house wine and mixed up the other beers which was ordered. The food overall wasnt bad, but wasnt particularly filling. The restaurant provided a complimentary tiramisu to us, and this was made well and the alcohol was not overpowering. Quite authentic. The overall experience was okay, given the current difficulties in the hospitality industry. Probably better for a date night than large group outing.
We were extremely dissatisfied with the service at this restaurant, positioned in a prime location in Sydney CBD. It was actually quite embarrassing in front of our guests. Firstly, we were not able to get a high chair for the baby because it was too difficult to get to. Fair enough, it s not really a family restaurant anyway. Secondly, our entrees arrived and the bread we accepted, we had to ask for several times before it made its arrival. The icing on the cake however, our mains took 2 hours from our arrival to get served. The bottle of red our guests ordered had to be returned because it was off and tasted like pure vinegar. When things couldn t get any worse, the waitress dropped half the roasted potatoes on the table and picked them up and threw them away. We assumed they d be replaced or unaccounted for on the bill but we were fully charged for them. We were however compensated for the bottle of red. It was actually quite a joke and we couldn t help at laugh at the whole experience. It was a mess.
The combination of an extremely rude bartender and being severely overpriced means I will never step foot into this venue again nor recommend anyone else does.
Poor service, smallest serving I ve ever seen , especially considering prices. If you do decide going , eat before you go.
Incredible truffle pasta and excellent, friendly service. Best food I ve had in Sydney and great wine too!
All dishes are yummy and you will want to come back again and again
I ve had Lumi before and it was amazing. Then I noticed that Leo is also operated bu the same chef from Lumi. So I booked here with my girlfriends and we absolutely enjoyed all the food we had! We even added one more pasta since we enjoyed every single bites and wanted to try more dishes here! The Wagyu 9+ steak was so tender and well-cooked. And I would say the tiramisu is one of the best I ve ever tried! Will definitely go back again!
The food was amazing and so was the service. Great experience
Great food - incredible pasta. Would say the only thing let down was the service. Staff were courteous and attentive but food came out very slowly, especially considering it was a lunch time meal and restaurant was only at half capacity. Otherwise a very good meal.
Great food!!! Portions was very generous! Service impeccable, thank you for great service for our big group. Restaurant Manager was warm, funny and so accommodating. Cocktails was great! Food was amazing!!! Definitely will be back!
Love the pasta and risotto dishes from here!!! Always flavourful and packs a punch :)
Delicious Italian food!
An extremely disappointing experience. Although the pasta and sides were delicious, this was overshadowed by the completely unprofessional service. The waiter was rude, dismissive and unpleasant the whole evening. The cheese platter was overpriced considering there was very little on the plate and the few bits that were there didnt taste right at all. Wont be coming back here. Fortunately it was still early in the evening and we were able to go to another restaurant afterwards with much better service and food.
This place is overrated!! My husband and I, together with our two friends were hugely disappointed with our dining experience. Food is good but in very small portions. Extremely slow service and poor ambience. Before our food orders were taken, an over-enthusiastic female staff came over to our table and in a loud voice (all diners could hear) asked whoo hass the allergiesss heere??!!. When I quietly raised my hand, she asked again in a very loud voice, doo youuu realllly haavve alllergiesss or youu just dooont like theeem???. Its difficult and embarrassing enough for me to request or mention about my dietary requirements and this staff just made it far worse and humiliating for me. I have a medical condition and its not for mere fun that I do request to accommodate my food allergies. Most restaurants nowadays offer a lot of flexibility and mostly, I have not encountered any issues. To top it off, the waitstaff forgot to serve my husbands glass of wine and dessert orders. We dont mind paying a premium price for a great dining experience however Restaurant Leo is definitely wasnt/isnt worth it. We would not recommend this place and well never visit again.
Great food but service wasnt which is a big disappointment.
Food was great as others have said in recent reviews, service was really disappointing. We were told that theyd like to get the table back by 8 pm, I was fine with that but we were waiting for them to take our order until close to 7 pm. Main courses came out before entrees. Our bread came last after enquiring about them but came with no butter so we had again to have to ask for it. When we asked for more butter, the waitress was a bit snappy and said we normally give out 1 per table only and continue on saying, but if you want more Ill get you more. At one point another waiter rudely snatched a plate out of my hand. There was no hospitality that night when we dined
Went there on Friday evening without a booking and was greeted by the welcoming and charismatic Yasmine & team who set us up a table in record time for 10 hungry diners!! What an amazing experience and the food was outstanding. Being Italian myself I normally shy away from eating Italian out but will certainly be back again!! Grazie mille!!
We had lunch today. Definitely worth a visit, pasta main ragu pork was beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. Serving sizes were perfect. Unfortunately there was no salad available which would had complimented the lunch. We shared tirimisiu and lemonchello semifreddo desserts were absolutely superb. Service was attentive and food came out promptly. My only comment is I wished they could turn down the volume of the music it was quite loud. Which meant we had to speak louder. Just a small thing but there was no where to put my bag in the ladies bathroom, I didnt want to have it on the floor and hanger behind the door would be great. I would recommend Restaurant Leo :)
What a surprise !! We went to Leo restaurant unexpectedly, a very cute Italian restaurant in cbd ! We had a very warm welcome from jasmine, she made our night a unique moment ! The service was amazing ! And the food was magic ! We had the burrata, the pasta and prawns, the pasta with pork and the beef !! A big thanks for the staff, I really recommend it ! We will come back very soon !! Merci beaucoup ! Muchas gracias ! Gracie Mille !
Food was ok, but the desserts were a let down - the fondant came out in 5 minutes, fully cooked through and bitter. Must have been microwaved.
Refined food, great orange wine selection and great service. Expect to spend a bit more for smaller proportions, even so, the food to me was more enjoyable eaten in smaller bites with wine to fully enjoy the flavours crafted into the dish.
Cosy Italian pasta joint tucked away in Angel Place. Chewy handmade pasta with very complex and layered sauces. Prawn tagliatelle is a must order for first time visitors. Pork strozzapreti was very nice as well. Will definitely be back to try more. I would personally skip all mains and just spend the time and stomach space on the pastas! Service for the food is fairly slow there s a decent pause between each meal.
Wine prices ridiculous. What we had was corked. . No Australian wines on menu. Food good, just dont drink.
I ll start with a positive - the oysters were delicious. Unfortunately that s the beginning and end of the positives. Ambiance was terrible. The lighting is way too bright; the tables are too close together; almost all of the diners were on their phones (not the restaurant s fault but it was just weird). The service was terrible. We had to ask for water a few times; the waitress was patronising. The wine list was ridiculous. The cheapest wine by the glass is $19 and bottles start at $88. The piece de résistance was when I found a hair in my pasta. I felt awkward about telling the waitress but I did regardless. My dish was taken away (without an apology) and after much discussion in the kitchen (visible from our table), the head chef appeared to tell me that the hair is blonde and none of the chefs are blonde. I had my blonde hair tied back so it was unlikely mine but I was definitely made to feel like it was mine even though the waitress had long blonde hair, too. My friend and I paid our bill and left immediately never to return. Restaurant Leo is not long for this world when it s surrounded by many fabulous restaurants which were unfortunately fully-booked. I now know why it was easy to get a table there.
The cacio pepe with shaved truffles will change your life. Weve been to Leo several times and the food is always excellent.
Food was okay, nothing I d go back to have again. Service was very mediocre - nothing done for a birthday and they gave us the wrong dessert without apologising. The staff all sounded impatient except for one very friendly waiter
Food was great. Tuna bruschetta and dry aged rib eye were delicious. Tiramisu is a must try. Service was very slow though.
Worse customer service I ever have before. Starting from simple table water which we waited for more than 15 minutes. One of the staff also gave us attitude when we wanted to clarify our offer and he said why you ask me when you ordered from my colleague . This restaurant is completely racist with their customers. The staffs walked away from us when we wanted to put in second order. Customer service in Maccas even better than this restaurant. Huge disappointment!!!!!
Entree was okay..but pasta wasn t good tastes. Service was amazing
Food was absolutely amazing and staffs were super friendly too! Probably my favourite Italian restaurant in Sydney now :) would definitely recommend!
Amazing lil place, good was amazing! Staff were incredible and kind. I was taken here for my birthday back in April and found nothing to fault. I would definitely return again! The tiramisu is a real stand out from the many I have tried!
Very poor service. We had to ask for drinks after waiting 15 minutes, then the kitchen lost our order. The meal was finally served 1 hour after we arrived and 10 minutes before we had to leave for the theatre. The meal was not enjoyable.
Do not dine here. The service is horrible. The ambiance feels like a jail block. The drinks are overpriced. The waiters are inattentive. Overall - there PLENTY of superior places to enjoy Italian cuisine. The wait staff will make you feel like an inconvenience to their lives. P.s if you order drinks - expect to wait about 15-20 mins for them.
Extremely disappointing for Federico. After being blown away by Lumi and Lode, figured we d try this place. Service was terrible, the waiter had no clue what he was doing or knowledge of the menu items. Drinks came out 20 mins after food arrived, wrong orders, small serving sizes, incorrect invoices, and zero emotional intelligence from staff.
I have been to Restaurant Leo and I really enjoyed the new fit out of the floor, the ceiling and the bar. The food was delicious, loved the Carciofo and the king fish, but standout was pasta man! So much flavour there! Of course ended up with tiramisu and panna cotta, a must try! Had Aglianico Bauccio, good recommendation by Angelo!
Best food ever love the trattoria feel of this gorgeous place. Food is next level and the service matches. Best long lunch spot in Sydney CBD for those that truly understand genuine Italian dining. Can t recommend enough! Great wine list for people that understand and appreciate Italian wines
The food at Restaurant Leo is excellent. Everything we had was delicious and looked amazing. The David Blackmore wagyu beef was a highlight and I loved how the eggplant mimicked the pieces of steak. The pannacotta was superb and the layer of sliced grapes on top was very refreshing. We were dining at Restaurant Leo on our wedding anniversary and it was acknowledged by the staff and a candle was added to our tiramisu. This was a fitting end to the night and it is only one of a couple of times in decades this has happened even though restaurants know it is our anniversary from the booking. So well done to all the staff and many thanks!
Amazing pasta
Lovely ambiance and excellent service
Alfresco dining in alleyway is something which I dearly adore! Finally I had the chance to experience this at Restaurant Leo in Angel Place last night. This Italian restaurant showcases their handmade pasta, which is excellent in taste and cooked to al dente. The red prawn Tagliatelle is a crowd favourite and I can see why. It was packed with flavour and that richness of the prawn and crustacean was truly amazing. The tuna bruschetta isn t something I would normally order but I decided to follow the chef/ owner s (Federico Zanellato ) recommendation and I was so glad I ordered it!! That was certainly one of the highlights! Focaccia was really good too and the croquettes were so crunchy outside and creamy inside. I personally cannot fault anything but simply enjoying every single dish while watching the sun went down. Service was good, though slightly on the slow side as they had staff shortage on the night. Nevertheless everything was good and I enjoyed the company and moment together.
Absolutely delicious food, every dish was excellent.great ambience in a cosy location, perfect for date night. Ill be back
I used to really like this restaurant particularly their pasta. Haven t been back for sometimes until today and felt something was missing. Food was okay but we didn t get any single bread to accompany our meal. The service was really inconsistent one minute they seem friendly but next minute they seem snappy. Most annoying part was probably there were some fruit flies flying around and spoiled the whole atmosphere. Dessert was disappointing.
Couldnt fault it at all. Every dish was absolutely exquisite, and with advice on wines it was the perfect date night
Wow so nice. Alfresco was romantic and fun. Exceptional wines and food (chardonnay, cocktails, beef tartare, the truffle pasta, the tiramisu.. exquisite). Service was lovely. Very special treat, thank you
I recently visited Restaurant Leo in Australia and had the tagliatelle dish for $36. Unfortunately, the dish was overly salty and lacked flavor. Additionally, the restaurant tried to ask for tips, which is not the norm in Australia. Overall, the experience was disappointing and I would not recommend this restaurant.
Really disappointed by the whole experience here. Firstly the service was atrocious. There were barley 20 customers in the whole restaurant all night with 5 waitstaff. We had to constantly ask for everything. We asked the waiter if the Leo Spritz was the same as an aperol spritz and he responded No . That s it no further elaboration. We asked for a wine menu and literally had to call them over to take our order. We saw other customers get up and pour their own wine while one of the waiters literally stood there watching her do it! As for the food, entrees we re ok but we had burrata, beef tartare and fish crudo so hard to stuff up dishes which require no cooking. The pastas were awful, we ordered the ragu which was very oily and not ragu, it was mine meat so this is bolognaise. We also ordered the spaghetti pippies which had 4 tiny pippies (which I d call vongole bc of the size) but regardless of what they want to call it 4 pippies is a joke! Plus it lacked any kind of flavour. It was literally boiled pasta in a plate. Being of Italian background my expectations are high when I dine at an Italian restaurant but even taking this aside it was an extremely poor experience. It s no wonder the surrounding restaurants were at capacity and this one wasn t. Although if that s the service we received at half capacity I can t imagine they d cope on a full night
Standout food and service from the delicious house made focaccia to the veal and amazing wines! Highly recommend!
Came tonight with my parents who just landed from overseas. Amazing welcome from the manager Camille and wonderful wine recommendations from Francesco, we travelled from Australia to Italy in a short amount of time and always with a good sense of humour and a warm smile. Food was excellent, go with the croquettes, the swordfish and the pappardelle with porcini, no delay with the service even they were clearly busy and nicely paced. Such a beautiful night. Again, thank you !
Service was bad and pasta was too salty.
Nice fine dining here. Excellent service and food. We will come back again.
Excellent addition to the Ash St precinct! Expect suitably fancy and delicious meals served up in a fairly small but buzzy and relaxed space. A sophisticated dining experience.
Service by our waiter 5/5, he was lovely. Food 2/5. Very intense flavours which could have been nice but its super salty and servings are quite small. The tirimisu was good. Ambiance, is ok, feels like a bistro. Overall probably 3.5 stars.
So busy today but still managed to present delectable dishes and good service
A lot of the reviews here says the foods flavor is too strong, but for us, it was spot on! Everything was perfect, from service, food, drinks! It was great that we celebrated our birthday here! Limited options, yes, but hoping it will improve overtime.
First time dined in here, flavour hit was spot on right from the start with the complimentary bread and anchovy butter. The rest of the food to follow (tuna crudo, cuttlefish risotto, duck ragu pasta, burnt white choc semifreddo) was so delicious with so much umami to the taste palette. It took me to that rare high I havent found in a while. So much so that I couldnt stop thinking about it the next day and went back to dine the second time on a spontaneous decision. Tried more things on their menu second time around, and had the same experience as the first time. Went there with my sister both times and we both felt the same. The service was attentive and flawless and the ambience was just perfect on a nice breezy evening in their outdoor seating space. Their menu is a classic example of a simple but sophisticated and flavoursome quality food. Its not an extensive menu, but theres not a single dish on their menu that doesnt hit the spot so far. Id prefer that any day than a bigger menu with only one go-to dish. Highly recommend this place and it has made it to one of my all time favourite restaurant.
Wonderful service, food spot on, awesome martinis
Impeccable service with friendly and engaged staff, but food was a bit mixed. Lobster pasta was quite salty and rather small in portion size but the David Blackmore wagyu was melt in your mouth delicious and absolutely delightful! Oysters and dessert were fine but not remarkable. Would come back for the wagyu.
Great place with great food and atmosphere
Coffee & Pastries here at Restaurant Leo sister cafe Picco Leo is amazing. They use little marionette coffee it always hit the spot, the barista Hendrik is manning this place its a one man show and he serve customers and make excellent coffee and latte art. Use to come here a few times last years for the pastries but they stop making it for the time being until May. Will definitely be back again for more coffee feed.
Great vibes and service here, especially suggestions from the sommolier which matched the food perfectly! Can tell lots of care went into each dish which had quality ingredients and some of the best pasta Ive had in a while. The portion sizes are small except dessert, which was a normal portion size. Would recommend this place for dates or special occasions.
Yeh nah sorry. Same service issues as Lumi. Got handed a dessert menu after entree. Menus did not reflect the food which was better but forgettable. Wine was stupidly expensive with a great range though. Staff tried hard but were too busy for the amount of patrons. A $400 restaurant for two needs way more polish
Better than average inner CBD lunch. Slightly over priced for the offering. Service slick and warm.
Nice food. Good service
Very disappointing, just had our 10 year anniversary dinner here and it was terrible. Other than the pasta and entree and our lovely Philipino waitress and friendly sommelier, the service and food was well below stanndard for what this restaurant claims. Dont waste your money. Got a lemon seed in my main, average fish dish and the second waitress couldnt care less. Said she told the chef and he said, it happens with fresh lemon. No acknowledgement of our anniversary except for a Happy anniversary as we walked out the door. Wow, thanks.
Super friendly help staff, Sommelier provided suggests that perfectly matched the food while not breaking the bank. The food was innovative, cooked to perfection and full of flavour.
The food was absolutely amazing quality. However, we left a little hungry. Not quite satisfied. We re not big eaters either so that was kind of odd The wait staff were efficient but a bit too efficient and not chatty and friendly. Would I go back? I m not sure. The food was delicious but not enough and the overall experience doesn t make me want to go back.
Amazing service and wonderful experience. On the higher end price wise but my work mates and I had a great night and will be back.
Dined here a few weeks back for dinner. The service was amazing, food was ok, standout was probably the crab pasta for me but felt hungry not long after. The lighting could also be dimmed a little bit darker, it was too bright.
We were disappointed with our dinner here last week. Firstly it took a long time to finish 3 courses (almost 3 hours). Restaurant felt under staffed. The staff that were present were doing a good job but you could tell they were stretched and time between courses felt very long. The food was very tasty and well presented however the portion sizes are too small (especially for the mains) and for the prices ($30 - $40). Pasta dishes also feel a little on the basic side. I was still hungry after 3 courses. The acoustics inside the restaurant are not great and wood decor a little off. We did eat just before xmas and in a busy period for what has been a tough year in the restaurant business.
Modern Italian restaurant where sophisticated cooking meets accessible food. Bean soup with mussels is a hearty low brow dish that s delicate and delicious, similar to the sand whiting, so fine and precious and hearty at the same time . Saltimbaco is more robust and would improve with a little freshness. Cuttlefish risotto was a standout along with the cauliflower gratin, made boujee with the addition of truffle. It s delicious and I can see this dish, along with the lobster macchirocini , becoming a standout dish in Sydney in 2020. Hazelnut ice cream with truffle and truffle jam has got me going bonkers and dish worth rushing in for before the end of truffle season. Excellent wines available, have a chat to Fabio to help find exactly what you re after, we had exceptional Italian orange wine. Restaurant Leo serves delicious Italian food that s more accessible than Frederick Zanellsto s other restaurant Lumi Dining and now you don t have to order a degustation to to get some of his awesome truffle pasta.
Took a client here for lunch recently, left with a new favourite spot to eat in Sydney. Impeccable service and amazing food. Will be back next week!
Exceptional food and service! Highly recommend x
Terrific modern Italian food and great service. Look forward returning and sampling more of the menu.
Delicious Italian food and we paired it with a Montepulciano wine which suited the pasta and Wagyu beef courses perfectly.
Amazing pasta and the service was top notched.
Enjoyed our recent dining experience where we sampled what felt like most of the menu. My favorite dish was between the maccheroncini and the Koshihikari risotto. Maccheroncini with lobster; perfectly seasoned, wonderful seafood sauce, al dente pasta with delicate morsels of lobster. Koshihikari risotto with cuttlefish and peas; black as night just the way I like it, the flavour and texture was just perfection. Every dish was modern, elegant and executed perfectly.
Wanting to acknowledge the barista Hendrick at the cafe side. Makes the best coffees in the area and great service with a smile. A usual morning stop for my colleagues and I. Thanks heaps
Simply right up my street so to speak. A few dishes done superbly backed up by impeccable service in a relaxed atmosphere. No need for a ball gown or 3 piece suit just go in knock off a negroni or two ask the staff for a good wine and your done. Think Il Bacaro in Melbourne for a reference point. Loved it.
Lovely meal here a couple of weeks back. The black squid ink risotto and the lobster maccheroncini
Loved it. Nice unpretentious service. Excellent food - had the lobster dish and tirimisu. Faultless.
Can see some good ideas but in general it hasn t reach to the fine level it s expected. Oysters were fantastic. Entrees and mains were quite average nothing outstanding and all in small portions. Service was not impressive either. There are many restaurants in Sydney with better food and service on that price range.
haven t dined out much these days, Leo is a surprise, including food & service very welcoming service from all staff, our server was very attentive and know her products very well food is amazing, risotto was Devine, squid is the same size of the risotto rice and used fresh peas in the dish ( my partner usually doesn t prefer anything in peas ) fish was amazing, boneless and keep it simple and nice we had a great time, well done !
The food is excellent, prepared with care and an eye to detail.
Dishes are ok for the price. Flavours of Dishes are strong. Our veal was bit over cooked but the pork loin was perfect. I do think the $100 per person minimum spending for dinner in weekends is not very reasonable.
Absolutely divine food and great service, great spot outside.
Service was attentive. Food was delicious! We particularly enjoyed the bread with anchovy butter, wagyu beef and risotto.
Food was meh, the cocktails were terrible the dessert still had foil stuck to it. The bar next door was great through save yourself some cash and just go to picco leo
Our second family visit to Leo. The staff was very accommodating and elightfully remembered our `memorable` first visit when my wife had a health related mishap. On this occasion we moved to an outside table in perfect weather. We have a gourmand or two in our family and they love the menu, the cocktail list and recommended wine by the glass. The Squid ink risotto was ordered for the second time by one of our sons, the other loved the Wagyu.
Really enjoyed the cuttlefish risotto the flavour was superb, not first date friendly though unless youd like your date to see you with a mouth full of black ink . It complimented the lobster maccheroncini super well and neither was stealing one anothers spotlight . Was not impressed with the cauliflower gratin, salad and potato sides were tasteless and that was emphasised even more so after we had the tasty pasta/risotto. Just wish they can zhoosh up the ambiance a little by maybe adding some candles or lights on the tables.
Amazing food and service. The beetroot carpaccio is one of the tastiest vegetarian dishes I ve ever had and the pasta is just perfect. Panna cotta is made without gelatine, just the way it should be. Hands down one of the best restaurants in Sydney.
