The food was absolutely delicious. My top picks would be the yellow fin tuna tostadas and baja fish tacos. The kingfish cerviche had some interesting flavours and was quite nice too. And you can t really go wrong with any of the margaritas on offer. Service was standard good and ambience would be better if all tables had a lamp. Some parts of the dining section were a bit too dark. Overall, a really great dining experience. I m glad I tried this venue.

Really disappointed. Food was ok but tiny portions and overpriced. We were forgotten about, no drinks, food took forever, and we had to get up to chase wait staff for service. They were very apologetic and offered a couple of drinks comp. Dont bother with the traditional margaritas, $24 for 2 mouthfuls was outlandish.

Nice. The stand out dishes for me were the chargrilled octopus taco and the crispy squid.

We started with the calamari and chorizo and then had the slow-cooked lamb and patatas bravas - heaps of food and absolutely delicious. The staff were super friendly and very helpful with menu suggestions. The margarita cocktails were fantastic and we splurged and did a tailored Mezcal tasting flight to share. Great experience all around and highly recommended. Extremely busy even on a week night so make a table booking! Dietary restrictions: Most of the menu is gluten free!

Came here for a graduation dinner and had one of the best meals of my life! Food was divine and the service was flawless - Esteban in particular went above. Highly recommend coming here for events big and small!

Just had lunch at Santa Catarina, and it was fantastic! The lunch menu is such a great deal for the quality of food. I ordered the Black Angus Flank, and it was cooked perfectly, tender and juicy. The service was friendly, and the vibe was relaxed. Definitely one of the best lunch spots in Sydney. Santa Catarina you stole my heart !

We had very oily nachos, soft patatas bravas that seemed to come from a frozen pack, carne asada taco was very average and creme brulee was basically a completely different dessert with sliced bananas on top and a strange cream inside. I explained to the very serious waitress we didnt like it and she didnt seem to care. She just wanted us out of the restaurant as soon as possible after my feedback to be able to sit the next group of customers. It felt like a very transactional experience.

Visited on Saturday night, excellent food, fabulous service from highly attentive staff, the band was AMAZING and the guys looked like they were having so much fun. If youre looking for a fun night pout with great food Santa Catalina is the place for you.

We recently dined at Santa Catarina and had a great experience overall. The food was delicious, and the ambience was warm and inviting. Initially, we were seated at a less-than-ideal table near the food serving area with bright lights, but the staff graciously moved us to a much better spot. One small hiccup was when one of our drinks was removed before we finished it, but the staff promptly replaced it with a fresh drink after we notified them. Their attentiveness made a positive difference. I would definitely recommend Santa Catarina.

I have to admit, as an American, I often find myself skeptical of Mexican restaurants outside of North America. We re used to a certain take on Mexican food, so I wasn t sure what to expect from *Santa Catarina: Oaxacan Restaurant & Mezcal Bar* in Sydney. But I was genuinely impressed this place delivered in ways that surpassed my expectations. I started with the ceviche, which had a beautiful seasoning and was light on the palate, setting the tone for a great meal. I also tried the scallop, but I ll save that highlight for last. For the main, I went with the carne asada tacos, and they were fantastic. The beef was incredibly tender and perfectly seasoned, served with pickled onions and a side of hot sauce that rounded out the flavors just right. Now, back to that scallop it was a standout. Cooked and seasoned to perfection, it was melt-in-the-mouth tender, capturing the sweetness and brininess of the ocean in every bite. I have to say, while my wife s sweet kiss is the last thing I want to taste when I die, this scallop might just be a close second!

Very high quality dining experience. Excellent food and cocktails. The pork belly tacos and smoked duck breast were the standout dishes. The Al Pastor Negroni and jalapeño margarita were two of the best cocktails I ve ever had. Friendly and efficient service.

We came in for a 30th Birthday Saturday night, it was the best experience! Ive already recommended it to a few friends. The staff were amazing, the band, the food. It was such a good vibe, we loved it!

I was so excited to visit this place. The asada tacos were served in cold tortillas and the meat was cold as well. Meat was rubberish and didnt taste like and asada taco at all. The mole tasting was a joke, there were two moles out of four that were ok. They serve them in tiny containers with 4 cold tortillas on the side. The drinks were ok but not great. Customer service was great. We had to leave the restaurant and go somewhere else.

I lived in California and Texas - two states bordering Mexico with large Mexican populations and many Mexican restaurants. I would put this one right up there! The mole sampler was a really highlight with 4 very different moles. The Squash Blossom tacos were also delicious. I am only in Sydney for a week but will find my way back here.

Yesterday celebrated my birthday at this beautiful restaurant. The manager and the waiter/waitresses went above and beyond to make my night more than special. Starters I recommend: all of them but the chorizo and guacamole just wowww! Octopus and carne asada tacos are a must together with the coconut margarita. I had everything I wanted for my birthday; great food, friends, tequila + mezcal shots and good vibes. If you are wanting to celebrate a special occasion, this is your sign to book this place. I dont usually write reviews but my experience at Santa Catarina was one of the worst dining experiences Ive had in a while. I made a reservation around 8pm on a busy Friday night. Host was lovely, led us to our seats. However, it all went downhill from there. Ordered a few entrees and two drinks from a lady. Guac was okay. Chorizo was good. Tacos were meh. Standout was the beef taco but the pork taco was super dry. Fish taco was good (albeit there was a small bone in one of them). At this point all of our dishes had come out and we still havent received our drinks. I get it was a busy Friday night but simple things like this shouldnt be missed. Was not enjoying the food and decided to give dessert a shot. Got the banana crème Brule - probably the highlight of the night. As we wrap up the meal we saw a cockroach / bug crawling across the shutters. We asked for the bill and notified the waiter and his response was oh no and instead of doing anything about it, just comes back with the EFTPOS machine. Its not a good look when it feels like you want to rush your customers out of the restaurant without addressing an issue one of your diners pointed out. As he brings the EFTPOS machine over, he drops it directly next to us, creating a loud bang which gave us a fright. The receipt roll of the EFTPOS machine drops out and he spends 2 - 3 minutes crawling around looking for the receipt roll - he eventually finds it under the table next to us and asks one of the diners to hand it to him. Its a busy night. Mistakes happen. I get that. But simple things like remembering your drink order and addressing the bugs shown by your diners should not be second guessed. Food was overall below average (but this was maybe because we did not try any of their main dishes). Not a great experience.

Very nice :) kitchen lights are a bit annoying on the booth I m front of the kitchen but nothing major. Food was great and so was service !!

When I tried to order, the server tried to change my mind by offering alternatives but I wanted the tacos so I had to maintain my ground to order them. But the food was cold (broccolini & both meat & veggie tacos were cold) even though we ate it immediately after receiving it to the table and it was not particularly nice flavour wise. The live band was tuning their instruments for about 20minutes whilst we were eating, which having to listen to that plus the background music made it impossible to hear each other talk without leaning across the table and shouting. Then the band played 1 song far too loudly and then left again. Overall I was expecting far better for the price and vibe of the place gave the impression that it shouldve been a higher quality.

Rude manager, bad food - overpriced

Good service, good atmosphere But the food here is what we ordered: The Cauliflower Pastor didn t taste like pastor at all, just a normal cauliflower you could get anywhere else The beef tartare had no Mexican taste in it, just a normal beef tartare you could get anywhere else The Papas bravas where just normal potatoes, not even crispy on the outside, with a mayo that might have had a glimpse of spiciness in it (not event a hint of Mexican flavours)

The food, service ambience were all great however I thought the music was a bit too loud - and no I am not old foggy hahaha! We had a great night and will come back for sure! Thanks Parking: There is no street parking but the restaurant is in the middle of the CBD so why would anyone expect street parking? However there is a parking station basically two doors down. I never drive into the City. I either train/bus or Uber it. Safer and it allows me to have Margaritas :)

Had a lunch here recently and have only positive memories from it. The lunch deal and food were great, lovely wine and cocktail options to select from too. Seating area a little bit crammed. We were with a baby and unfortunately there is no highchairs available, however this is not something you would expect from a place in a middle of city area. Staff were all lovely. Although in no rush, we probably will be back when in the area.

The food was good. I would recommend the mole tasting and the tuna tostadas. The service is the only thing that could be better. We ordered 12 tacos and after a while, two different staff members asked us if we were still waiting on something - clearly they forgot about the tacos. I will still come back. Food

The cocktails were fantastic, but unfortunately, the service and food fell short. On a busy Thursday evening, there were too few waitstaff for the number of customers, leading to long wait times for taking orders and requesting assistance. The food, including the duck, potatoes and tacos, was disappointingly bland. We had to ask for salt to improve the flavour.

The most incredible food and great service! Maddy was excellent, very welcoming and efficient. She explained the food so well and had the best recommendations. EVERY dish was superb, the service, flavours & presentation was the best I ve had in Sydney. I can t wait to go again!

Mexican is probably my favourite food to eat out and Santa Catarina does not disappoint at all! I found this by accident and then came back with a friend last night. Both times the food has been excellent and last night we tried a few of the Margaritas. SO GOOD! I even recommend trying the weird cheese flavoured tequila. Not because its good but because its just plain weird. :) Dietary restrictions: The staff were very mindful of dietary requirements.

The food never disappoints everything is always fresh and tasty. My favourite by far would have to be the kingfish and fish tacos they are a must get for the seafood lovers. The live music and decor of the restaurant makes you feel like you re in another country and just add to that Mexican experience. Finally a shoutout to the manager Esteban he goes above and beyond every time to meet our requests and make us feel welcomed.

The restaurant is magnificent and theres a great atmosphere. I came with my boyfriend and we had a great time. We had a chat with one of the chefs, Dani (the blond one), and he gave us some great advice about the dishes. It was very good and tasty, thanks again to Dani. Well definitely be back.

Booked this restaurant for a friends birthday dinner. Was so blown away by the food, the offering and above all the service. We were one of those loud fun groups that constantly had the owners and performers coming up to offer us more drinks, have a chat and a laugh. We felt like were were at their home being hosted and this made it all extra special! The tacos and food were so tasty and they know their Mezcals! Highly recommended!

Fabby food, atmosphere and service! Stumbling across this restaurant on a spontaneous night out, we were so pleased with the fabulous drinks (with a pleasantly surprising happy hour starting at 10pm!!) and dinner. As a coeliac with anxiety over cross contamination, I was able to eat here very confidently and was even able to speak to the chef to confirm its safety. Our host Koyal, and all the staff were lovely and we had a great night. Definitely recommend!

Santa Catarina is a delightful Mexican restaurant with good vibes and a pleasant ambience. The staff are attentive and friendly, ensuring a welcoming experience. The prawn tacos were a highlight crispy and full of flavour! Its a great spot to catch up over little nibbles without the distraction of too much noise. Perfect for a relaxed evening out.

A very cozy place with minimalist decor and an amazing ambiance that sets the tone for an enjoyable dining experience! Marcelo, the bartender, knows the menu well and is happy to make recommendations, enhancing the overall experience of the cocktail menu, which is equally tempting. Of particular note are their margaritas, where freshly squeezed lime juice and high quality tequila create a refreshing drink that is hard to resist.

Was told I only had half hour table than realised that was for someone else , food was average at best, but atmosphere was nice, a lot of people need to use the iphone torch to see the menu which is a joke.

A quick visit just for margaritas, and they were fantastic. Bartender was very friendly and had a great knowledge on all of the tequilas and mezcals he had. He made some excellent recommendations and we will definitely visit again.

I recently traveled to Australia and was fortunate enough to find this wonderful place! Marcelos attention was excellent, very good drinks and he was very friendly, he made our time there very pleasant!

I loved their guac, margarita s and the amazing service and the willingness of Carlos to explaining all our menu enquiries.

Excellent! this is definitely the best Mexican restaurant in town! I recommend it on Saturday evenings because there is live music. Both the food and the cocktails are exquisite. The impeccable service from the staff made the experience even better.

We went to Santa Catarina for late night drinks, drinks recommendations from Marcelo was great. We had 2 different cocktails that night and both of them were so good! Especially one with Mezcal. Thanks to him, and definitely we will come back.

It s a great restaurant, and above all there s a great atmosphere. Food was pretty good and especially the table service. Always, the waiter Carlos was really attentive explaining and giving us recommendations about drinks, entries and mains. Definitely, the service made a big difference. My girlfriend and I were so happy and we will come come back soon.

Easily the best place in the city for some cheeky margs and snacks! Last time I went, the manager (Esteban I think his name was), had our table feeling like we owned the place service and quality of goods was flawless! 100% recommend!
