I had an amazing dining experience at Sydney Common, and a big part of that was due to our fantastic waiter, Jason. From the moment we were seated, he made us feel welcome and comfortable. Jason was courteous and helpful, providing great recommendations from the menu and ensuring we had everything we needed for a fantastic dining experience. The food was incredible, and Jason added to the overall experience with his knowledge and friendly demeanor. It’s rare to find such excellent service, and he really went above and beyond to make our evening special. I’ll definitely be returning and highly recommend Jason if you're looking for a memorable dining experience. Thank you for such wonderful service! HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE WAGUY BLADE !

Sydney Common offered an overall enjoyable dining experience with a few hiccups in the service. We were seated right next to the kitchen, which was a fantastic spot as we had a full view of the action—the kitchen was running like a well-rehearsed orchestra. However, the service was a bit lacking when we first sat down, as we weren’t offered water until we asked. Even then, we were told someone else would come around with water, and similarly, another person was responsible for taking drink orders, which slowed things down a bit. That said, the food was delicious, beautifully presented, and arrived at a good pace. While the service could be tightened up, the quality of the food made it worth the visit.

We had a fantastic experience at Sydney Common! From the moment we walked in, everything was top-notch. The ambiance was warm and inviting, creating the perfect setting for a relaxing meal. The food was absolutely delicious, with every dish prepared to perfection. What truly made the experience stand out, however, was the exceptional service. A special shoutout to Valentina, who took care of us with such warmth and attention to details. Highly recommended.

Went here for the first time. The food was sensational. Better than expected. The wait staff attentive and helpful without being intrusive. The atmosphere was not too bad considering it’s a hotel restaurant. Cosy and relaxed.

Our food was amazing and the flavours were exceptional. Jason looked after us and he was very well informed on the menu. An asset to the business. My only disappointment was the lack of vegan options. The only desert selection was a coconut sorbet. In 2024, with sustainability being such a major focus, I would expect a chef at a 5 star establishment, to do better. We had a great meal, nonetheless. Just had to eat dessert elsewhere.

Exceptional experience. Everything we ordered was delicious and original. The doughnut with crab, the scallops with nduja, the duck with homemade ketchup… everything simple was elevated and everything sophisticated was democratised. The pumpkin was the thing that impressed me the most, maybe, and I wasn’t expecting that flavour at all. Special mention to Ernesto, Valentina and the French waiter (sorry I didn’t get your name!) for the fantastic service they provided. Fantastic new restaurant, cannot wait for them to make it big!

Been there twice in a week ✅ Food is great. Setting is good. Service is super by Jason & Matteo. Kitchen pushes food out real quick specially oysters, beef tongue & octopus - so make sure you order drinks well in advance 🤞 Yes oysters are must, they're super fresh & slurp them just with lemon (you'd ask floor staff for it) but trust me - they're freshest amongst many other places I've been recently in Sydney 🤙🏽 Wagyu tongue - in 2 times we've had 3 of them, guess they're doing the best tongue thus far - yes it's 1 up on Nomad Surry Hills Pork Chop is incredibly done as well & of course they're Duck is the showstopper but takes an hour & is worth the wait. Order it soonest you sit. First time was better than my second 🆗 But will recommend to give it crack 👍

Brunch buffet at $125 pp on 6 Oct 2024. Highly disappointed thought it would be innovative this time. The promotion started once a month⋯⋯personally think that: Food : No improvement vs before covid times- 3 stars standard on food quality and variety (couldn’t find dim sums, no sashimi and couldn’t find sushi, bbq pork and Vietnam bahn mi doesn’t look tasty ⋯⋯but price asking 5 stars! If inclusive of the wine buffet, it is worth. Positives - the ramen station, and dessert is worth 5 star rating.

Well, if you like crusty sourdough bread don t order this one as it was chewy, very chewy. We placed our ordered at 7:15 and our steak was served at 9:10ish. This was because our waiter made a mistake and didn t understand that we wanted a steak each. We were astounded that the sous chef, the regular chef wasn t working, wanted us to wait 20 minutes while he cooked the second steak. Of course, we requested that we have both steaks cooked at the same time which took much more than twenty minutes and the steaks were lukewarm. The fries were good and hot. We spoke to Matteo, the supervisor, who seemed to commiserate and spoke to his sous chef. Our waiter had the hardest time understanding that my husband was ordering two desserts one each. The desserts were also good. Nothing was excellent, including the service. Update Since writing this review we have discovered that The Reach for the Stars Shiraz we initially had, that was not quite right as it was a little bland and tasted like raisin with a short finish or maybe no finish, really has a nice write up with descriptors like blueberry and wild cherry with soft toast and lots of blue fruit to finish. We appreciate, that at my husband s request, it was swapped out for another wine. We also received a sincere apology from Matteo and his team the following day. We appreciate the gesture and acknowledgement. Such is life sometimes.

The waiter said the chips were the best hes ever had. They were the best part of the meal. Only problem is they were average chips! Every dish we had was below average. Half the ribeye was fat. Unevenly cooked. Small serving sizes were small - one dish was $20 for half an onion! All dishes were presented very nicely, but the taste was no good! How much did they have to pay to get that hat? Embarassing for good food guides.

Weird dining experience. Staff walking around but not our section waiter. Finally ordered drinks and entrees but had to ask for our drinks when our entrees were cleared. After ordering mains and requesting for only one to be put ahead of the rest (was late by now and one guest had to leave), our mains didnt arrive for another hour. Asked floor manager and another waiter who apologised - our whole order had been pushed back. Free desserts for the mixup were appreciated. For a Saturday night, also lacking any buzz. Definitely way below expectations, unfortunately.

We had an amazing dinner tonight and received exceptional service from Jason, Oliver, and the entire team. Food was creative and everything fantastic - we tried the grilled scallops, sourdough cavatelli (the thin sliced uncooked mushrooms on top blew my mind), and the egg yolk raviolo. Well be talking about this meal for quite some time. Thank you!

This was my first time I dined at this restaurant. I was appalled by the very low standard service I received there . Everything was ok until the prawn dish arrived . I instantly knew the prawn was still raw upon first bite. As I was not sure whether this was the proper way to cook the prawns with this dish ( the dish says barbecue prawns) and my brother agreed with me after tasting the prawn. I passed my query to the restaurant manager, Ernezto and he said he would check with the chef . In my mind , I was a little surprised with his answer as he seemed to me an experienced staff which meant he should know whether this was the usual way to cook the prawns. Anyway , he took away the dish , my plate but NOT my brother s plate. He came back a while later , saying that this was the usual way to cook the prawns ( in my opinion, surprising for barbecue prawns ) but if we did not like it, the chef would make another one for us with the prawns more cooked. We thanked him for that but still , he did not take away my brother s plate. Anyone could see majority of the prawn was left behind . Later on , the plates were replaced by another waiter. However, when the new dish arrived , there were only two prawns (. The dish was supposed to have three prawns). We could not understand why and thought that probably was an oversight, hence we asked the manager again. I was so disappointed and very unhappy with his reply . First , he intentionally raised his voice with his answer, saying : the chef only replaced the two you did not eat. Your brother ate the whole third prawn . How ridiculous was his response. Firstly , his tone was quite blunt . Secondly, he was implying that we were lying (. As my brother said he only took a small bite ) and taking advantage of the restaurant but the manager could not prove that as my brother s plate was taken away already. He just kept on saying : no , you ate the whole prawn. Imagine a customer has a couple of bites from a steak , then complain to the waiter that the steak is too well done as the customer requested medium initially, any average restaurant would replace the customer with another full piece of steak and not a smaller one ! Understandably, we felt quite humiliated and did not want to argue with him. As mentioned above , not just being rude , he purposely raised his voice, with the intention to make the next table able to hear the conversation. I did not mind at all . As a matter of fact, one of the customers of the next table turned out to be a food journalist and it was indeed very nice for her to know the this awful incident as we later talked to her about what exactly happened. To further add to our disappointment, as I am a Bonvoy platinum member, upon paying the bill, the waiter said he could not add points straight away to my account as they did not have the related machine ( if I understood correctly) . I was sceptical with this , so I went to the lobby reception, the bonvoy counter and asked about this . One could see the facial reaction of the reception staff when I mentioned the restaurant did not have the machine to add my points straight away . Anyway, the reception staff helped me with this. Sydney Common is a restaurant under an international 5 star hotel, how can this unacceptable service be allowed ? Any customer would feel so humiliated under the same situation. I feel sorry to disclose the manager s name but I have no choice . The was one moment that he actually sit down next to my brother on the same sofa, talking to us! Is that a 5 star restaurant service ? How disappointing and such a waste . Frankly , the oysters and the pork were above average but that kind of service is just repulsive. I forgot to mention , the restaurant was not full but it was not easy at all to get a waiter to attend , They rather preferred to stand far away and pretended not looking to our direction despite we waved our hands. So so disappointing

This is a restaurant to visit at least once. Matteo, James, and staff gave my wife and I an incredible dining experience once thought lost in Sydney. The service was without fault, with our water and wine topped up constantly, and the knowledge of staff about the menu clear in their recommendations. The food was Michelin level: a cheeky crab donut set the mood, before a saucey steak and medley of prawns put the hammer down, accompanied by roasted lettuce that made me want to become vegan. But the steak was seared to perfection and served at perfect temperature, while the prawns were cooked and so well presented youd be forgiven for thinking you were eating lobster bisque, so perhaps another day. We dont normally get dessert, but Matteo convinced us to try the truffle ice cream. No regrets. Wonderfully presented and exceptional in taste. Some will say the price is high, but you are getting what you pay for. Dont doubt it, the price is reflected in the experience. Treat yourself or a loved one and walk away feeling like a regular.

Highly recommend Sydney Common as a business lunch venue in the CBD. The renovated space is elegant, tables are well spaced and acoustics spot on so you can actually have a private conversation without noise and being overheard. The food is absolutely delicious and well above expectations, was not expecting such quality and presentation at a hotel venue and for the price. Plus the business lunch menu offers just 3 mains and 3 sides with 3 wines to accompany. Such a great approach as we didn t want to pour over a long menu and all the dishes were fantastic. Hard to find a high quality, well priced, stylish venue in the city for a business lunch and this places nails it. Will be back.

Went to have some drinks in the bar. Asked for a whiskey sour, they could not make, so had the drink they suggested it was ok. Then had their tequila cocktail that was nice at $24.00. The mistake I made was having the second one, came out in a smaller glass, missing the garnishes of the first one and with so much ice it tasted watery. Same bar staff same drink, same price but different. Service was not good, you had to play find the server, and the three drinks took about 15 minutes to come to the table, did not think it was particularly busy.

Below average , especially for the price. The service was haphazard to say the least. One dish would come with a 15 minute delay and the next would come 4 minutes later. It seemed like the wait staff just did stuff when they saw it, very disorganised. For example we were asked 4 separate times if we wanted still or sparkling water but it didnt come from about 10 minutes or more after the manager noticed. The food wasnt very good either. Bland, fish tasted weird, I mean if it was home cooking youd say this is ok it will keep me alive but I wouldnt be going to this place for the food. I love this hotel but wouldnt go back to this restaurant.

The food was great but the service was awful, particularly for the amount you are spending. Long wait time for your order to be taken, having to tell staff 3 times what our water order was , a very surley waitress who couldnt be bothered to tell us what the degustation food was, we ended up seaking to the people around us who were also upset but the terrible service lack of care and the lack of anything special in the dining room just cheap tables. What a let down .

Dining at Sydney Common is a multi-sensory satisfaction! We came in for dinner very last minute decision, although we have tried lunch and dessert before. But dinner just completely extraordinary. The service is impeccable and the interior design is stunning, comfortable, welcoming. The food selection are amazing, one of my favourite dish was the octopus and kipfler potato being the highlight of the night Ive never had such tender octopus paired with perfectly soft potatoes, the layer of texture was unforgettable. Each dish has a delightful complexity of flavors, balancing its sauce and subtlety. The dessert is incredible, with the chocolate mousse being a must-order. (One time I actually order 2 dessert and finished by myself) This time we had madeleine which is fresh, beautiful fragrance of yuzu, crispy edge of Madeline, again, the texture! ; its the perfect way to end the dinner. Thank you to the chef and the wonderful staff for an unforgettable experience!

Generally quite disappointing given high expectations from previous reviews. The venue is largely not isolated enough from the remainder of the hotel floor upon which it is housed to lend sufficient ambience. Service was a bit patchy on the day they obviously were trying hard but it just didn t run that smoothly. Food on the tasting menu was very slow to arrive and the menu itself failed to mesh in a structured fashion. Hopefully will improve with time but currently fails to escape from the stereotypical hotel restaurant genre.

I arrived at 2.00pm & unfortunately my friend was running 40 minutes late, they rushed me to order at 2.30pm due to closure of the kitchen, so I had to call my friend to order the food. It would be nice to know in advance as it was a little stressful as I had to call her up & down, and had to read out the menu to her. The service was friendly just the whole rushing experience, can be a little frustrating. The food was amazing though, loved the cocktails & desserts also.

The ambiance is smart casual , with nice seats and tables , The staff dressed in smart casual uniforms trying to create an upscale but casual vibe. However, as the evening progresses, the sheen of sophistication begins to tarnish with hotel guests and others dining in slippers / thongs / shorts and baseball hats. Everybody has a right to wear what they want and be comfortable, but sometimes there is a time / place and suitable dress code ? The menu, a collection of modern dishes with place names as complex as their flavor profiles and boasts above average prices and small servings. A starter of bread and butter arrives looking like a modern art piece, but the flavors fail to justify the **$3 each slice price tag**, similar to the scallops at $11 each. While tasty, hard to justify the price. The entrees , are enjoyable - both meat type dishes , prosciutto with figs and Bresaola with beetroot. The main , chargrilled prawns (3 pieces with a lovely sauce is cooked to perfection but leaves one questioning the necessity of such cost ($45). Finally at dessert, a passionfruit topped type custard that melts away but overly tart due to the passionfruit syrup pour over . Its a performance on a plate, yet the taste is merely satisfactory, not the showstopper one would expect. In conclusion, while Sydney Commons delivers on aesthetics and the promise of luxury, the culinary experience does not live up to the tik tok hype. The food, though fancy, does not match the prices, leaving one to ponder the true cost of dining and the hype. Our final bill was close to $300 for a couple with drinks.

We dined here after arriving on a later flight and pressed for time to look for anything else outside of our hotel. Our expectations were low so it was a huge surprise when we were absolutely blown away by the food and service. Our server - who I believe is also the manager - was incredible, immediately adjusting my cocktail and making it so much better after learning it wasn t as spicy as I d hoped. We kicked our dinner off with some sourdough bread that was perfectly baked with the right amount of chew on the inside and crustiness on the outside. It was accompanied by butter and smoked sea salt that took it to another level altogether and gave us confidence about what was to come. The mushroom pasta was earthy and delicious and then taken to a new level with a satisfying crunch from toasted breadcrumbs. Equally well received was the mortadella agnolotti comprised of pillows of pasta in a brown butter sage sauce. The sleeper of the night was the wood fire roasted chicken recommended by our server. The brined bird was beyond tender with crispy skin. By itself it was delicious - when it was dipped into the unusual panzanella sauce it rested on it sang. Serendipity landed us here and we can t thank it enough.
