The staff was very friendly and attentive. We enjoyed the wine suggestions for each meal.

I love to celebrate special occasions such as my birthday and anniversary at Gowings. The menu is exciting and the food is perfectly delicious, served impeccably. My sister always gets the cheese cart. It s very lovely how Gowings often gifts us a special dessert to help celebrate the occasion, such as a tiramisu last night.

Love the interior and the service was friendly. The food took forever to get served though - at least 20-30min wait between each course. Burrata and tartare were good, pasta was bland and steak was served medium instead of medium rare .overall pricey for what it is

We had the table side Caesar which was okay and then had to wait 30 minutes for two of the pasta dishes. The Lasagna was terrible and crunchy. Sent it back and the manager came over and said the chef said it was fine and we maybe are not used to it. We have been all over the world and have been in Australia for 3 weeks and have eaten at a lot of restaurants. It felt like the manager was blaming us when it was clearly not good. The manager did offer a free desert and it was taken off the bill. An additional bottle of water was brought to the table that we did not order and was charged to the bill but later taken off when I said I did not order it. Overall a pretty bad experience at what I thought was a pretty high end pricey restaurant at a nice hotel. There are much better options in the area.

The only thing that let this place down was the service. For the price you pay for everything, you expect a top notch service. It was the most bi-polar dining experience i think iv ever had. The staff provide a wonderful, friendly caring attitude. But they forget what youve asked them, and then then dissapear for ages forgetting you exist and look after other tables. Its a shame because its my first visit to Australia, I am a solo traveller, and I walked for MILES trying to find a decent restaurant that didnt look like it was a chain. This one seemed the best and I thought for the price, I would have a great experience. Its a shame because the food tasted SO nice and was cooked to perfection! I hope WHEN I dine here again, because I will, my feedback is taken on board.

Used to love this venue - it holds special and happy memories. But this was appalling - terrible, incompetent service across the board. The person who asked us which water we d like promptly disappeared never to return nor produce water. After a further 20 minutes we had to accost a passing staff member to order a drink. Another 15 mins until it arrived (a beer and a Campari Soda - un-stirred!!) when our orders were taken approx 45 mins after arrival, the server didn t know the menu (and this was the pre-theatre so there are only 3 mains) didn t know what the fish was or how it was cooked. The complimentary hot flat bread which was supposed to come out before entreés was served a full 30 minutes after them. We never saw the mains and left to be in our seats for the start of the show. 1 hour and 20 minutes for a cold Burrata and raw veg entreé and two drinks!! We won t be returning - sad to have what were memories of a once great establishment tainted so completely.

Thank you but no thank you. I found the service at the bar and dining room very poor. It s very disappointing experience especially when I had regarded Gowings B&G and QT Sydney, as a trusted venue - being a regular hotel guest and regular events customer (had my daughter s 21st party at StudioQ) Upon arrival, we alerted the MaîtreD that we will be at the bar prior to our 7.30 dinner reservation- asked them to alert us at 7.30. 7.30 came and gone, no one alerted us if our table was ready, we had to chase them. The bar experience was poor, with drinks ordered not served until we moved to the dining room. It was a very long wait. The booking was made with notes on gluten free and nut free requirements. Our server had to be alerted of the critical notes, once again indicating your process lacking in customer consideration which could have been very dangerous outcomes. Let it be noted that the mains were not served at the same time, leaving some dishes getting cold whilst we waited for others to be served. The pasta dishes were mediocre and tasteless. They were overpriced for the portion size and poorly executed. Once again disappointing kitchen service. When it came to settling the bill, the staff announced that the restaurant does not allow split bills. Firstly, this was not noted on our booking confirmation and your staff rudely insisted that it was. (No, it was not). For such a big group like ours with a $800 bill, it s one mighty credit facility required just because your restaurant fails to provide a service for group bookings. It was also rudely explained that most young people nowadays just transfer funds to the payer - which we all took offence to. Overall, the experience was extremely disappointing leaving us feeling robbed and deceived. Such a bad experience is hard to forget and we will not be future patrons nor will we recommend the venue.

Its so difficult to find the entrance The food is okay, but expensive for the taste and there is no salad. And they are trying to scam receipts. Fortunately, I found it before I left, but the male employees attitude was really unpleasant. For some reason, I canceled and repaid, but I paid as much as I could and was very upset. Im never going again Be sure to check your receipt before making payment.

Dont feel great at giving a 3 star as the service was absolutely fantastic, the food was divine BUT when booking a table for 9 people we didnt expect to be put on this random high table that protruded half into the kitchen. We were the only table without a white table cloth, it kind of felt we were put into the naughty corner, the table is like a complete after thought of design or left for your children to sit at away from the fine diners. We had visitors over from Europe and as a special treat for them and ourselves and thought this would be perfect, so by no means was this meal cheap! So go for the food but make sure you tell them you dont want to be seated in the naughty corner. An obscene amount of money for the wrong atmosphere :(

Great Margaritas. Beautiful bar and wonderful food

Our family really enjoyed our dinner here, the steaks were amazing and the cheese wheel noodles were delicious, the kids loved watching the food being cooked and prepared in front of them, it was such a wonderful experience

Ambiance and Service was nice, Focaccia was the star of the night. But the ribeye is burnt asked for medium rare but the steak was on more rare side. Our server Vera is very accommodating.

We ve been to Gowings several times and there are many positive experiences but this time sadly wasn t the case. We arrived as booked at 7:30 to be told the table wasn t ready. We checked several times and only past 8pm when I threatened to go elsewhere did they miraculously find us a table for 4. We ordered starters and the garlic pizzetta which didn t come so when they collected the plates we had to remind them. The mains came and everyone was a mix of shocked and laughing at the duck lasagna . It was a slice 1cm thick and about 8cm long. There were 10+ layers of pasta with nothing in between - no duck, no sauce nothing. It was completely tasteless. The sauce was supposed to be mushroom and porcini but was a plain tasteless cream sauce. For $40 it wasn t worth $5! The fish and chicken dishes for the same price were both very good. The fillet steak for $85 was also not worth the money. They did give us a slice of tiramisu as compensation but it went nowhere to compensate for such a laughable meal. We left feeling that it wasn t worth the money and knowing there are much better options so will be a very long time before we think of returning.

All I ordered at the bar was one glass of Shiraz and one of cab sav.. My fault for not asking how much that would cost. $50+ I could have bought a bottle for less. Fine if you re not feeling the cost of living. I ve never paid this much for a glass of wine in a bar. Won t be doing it again

At the last check, there was gin and carbonated water added that I didnt even drink. Fortunately, I found it as soon as I paid, canceled it, and recalculated it, but I felt uncomfortable. Please be careful. The menu seems to keep changing (I saw it on the blog, but the menu is different). All the food was delicious, but compared to the price... it was too expensive. However, it is luxurious and has a very nice atmosphere. I went on a weekday evening without making a reservation.

We like to go early to places, booked for 530, arrived at 5. We had a Manhattan (made just how I like them) and a Champagne while we waited. Moved to the table at 530 and enjoyed a variety of entrees. The scallops were particularly good. Oysters were great too. For main we shared a huge steak, cooked perfectly with some potatoes (that could have been better tbh) and a super fresh salad with cos, mustard vinaigrette and chives. I love this so much I make it at home. The highlight for me was the restaurant uses Coravin wine cork sealers. I had never seen them before, but they allow you to order a single glass of aged wine without them needing to open the entire bottle (look them up, great idea). Service was good and the venue is beautiful. Open kitchen but not intrusive. Great if youre seeing a show (we actually saw a show at the Capital Theatre and caught the light rail down as it was on our way home).

Never again will I dine at Gowings. While the food was absolutely dreadful, the delightful wait staff was the sole redeeming quality. Regrettably, Gowings, despite its supposed upper-class status, it fell short beyond words. As a frequenter of Sydneys finest dining establishments, I dare say I could have enjoyed a far more superior meal at the Rooty Hill RSL Club.

Very expensive menu, paying for the location and NY Italian steakhouse vibes. Food was ok, service hit or miss. Worked for a pre gig meet up with friends heading to the State Theatre but would probably not return.

What an awesome and amazing bar and restaurant. Third time visitor with meals, cocktails and drinks pre show. Another time was drinks. The service and staff were brilliant and professional indeed.

We had the absolute best night here! We were celebrating a special occasion and every wait staff who interacted with us congratulated us. We also got some champagne and felt so special. The food was incredible. We bought the 800gr delmonico and it was perfection. The ceaser salad table side was delicious absolutely drowning in freshly grated parm and don t get me started on the duck fat potatoes! We could ve happily eaten another bowl. Our mouthwatering dessert was recommended to us by Emma who was an absolute angel all night. She was so attentive, cheerful and really added to our great experience. We will be back in the future

Thank you Gowings for giving me such a perfect Valentines Day dinner. Everything was so wonderful, especially the filet mignon steak; it was definitely the most tender Ive ever had. The garlic pizza for appetizer was also delicious. However, I must say the dessert wasnt great, but regardless, highly recommended!

It s located inside the QT hotel, you can ask reception or just take the lift up to 1st floor. We had the Bone Marrow, Caesar salad, crab linguine, NZ snapper, and several desserts. The food was overall quite good, although a little expensive. The NZ snapper was very crispy and not heavy so if you re a light eater I recommend it. The linguine was nice and fresh from the lemon but was also buttery and savoury and rich, the Caesar salad was typical Caesar salad with an egg yolk based dressing, anchovies, and cheese so a little salty but paired well with the fresh lettuce. The desserts and non alcoholic drinks were also enjoyable. The only dish we did not like was the bone marrow as it tasted of oil and a whole chunk of ground herbs. It would have been more balanced if some bread was included to spread the bone marrow and herbal sauce on. Their tableside dishes are made well, tableside and customers from other tables tend to like watching as well. We re guessing this is one of the reasons their Caesar salad and rib eye are so popular. The service was excellent, they refilled our water several times and came to ask us how the food was several times, and were generally pleasant and friendly. Wheelchair accessibility: Yes it s accessible, lifts available throughout.

What a great place to have an evening. Really first class service including somellier. Amazing selection of fish courses, pastas vegan/vegetarian as well as steaks, chicken, pork etc. Wines and digestifs to die for. Thank you Gowings chefs and staff - loved it!

Food and service were great. We had booked for our anniversary and ended up sat near two large noisy tables. The staff proactively offered to move us but it was after food had been delivered so we didnt want it to get cold while we moved. Excellent dirty martini

Steak and potatoes are delicious!! The salad was just average and the pasta was a bit salty... The staff was friendly and nice.

Loved the food and decor. A bit pricey but delicious food. I did not opt for the $300 lobster! The head chef clapping loudly every five minutes or less (presumably to speed up his staff) was so annoying it would almost put me off going back. Totally unnecessary and disruptive.

The food was incredible, and the restaurant (like the rest of the hotel) has an wonderful, theatrical and arty vibe. Our waitress Chi Chi was an absolute delight and we appreciated the service of everyone. I definitely recommend Gowings, and we will be returning soon!

Food is amazing, service is really slow. Took 10 minutes to give us desert menu after they offered it, then a further 15 to take our order, to be told it takes 30 minutes to make the desert.

My partner and I had our valentines meal here last night. It was our first time there and it did not disappoint. The food was absolutely amazing and the service both bar and dining was impeccable. The atmosphere is quirky, sexy and fun. We had the Burrata and the flavours were so fresh and worked perfectly together. I had the chicken for main and it was the best chicken I ve ever had, especially since I only order chicken out. The cocktails are so delicious too. I will definitely be coming back. And a very special shout out to our server Ernesto for making our night so much fun and so special. He is truly an asset to the restaurant. Thankyou to all the staff for making the night one to remember.

My drink on arrival at the Bar was excellent - great service, and my Old Fashioned featured a block of transparent ice - rare and a mark of quality. Dinner was Steak, and it was truly delicious - just as I ordered it - and the Duck Fat potatoes and the horseradish were excellent accompaniments. I enjoyed my night at Gowings. Ill come back for another special occasion.

I stumbled upon this place when I was looking for a spot to have drinks with friends, and I m glad I found it. Ever since, I ve been a fan of this place and it became one of my spot to be at for drinks after work or over the weekends. THE AMBIANCE I love the art deco and funky design and the overall vibe, from the dark room featuring the buzzing bar, the booths to sit in, the music (not too loud and obnoxious), and the service you get is really top notch. THE FOOD & DRINKS I mainly go there for their cocktails and it s like an adventure for me to try all their drinks. They also change their drinks menu so there s more to try and it keep things fresh. And with that you know they really put some thought into their service, but you can still order your old favourites from any of their friendly bartenders there. Unfortunately I haven t tried their food yet. I ll update this review once I have but I m sure it wouldn t be any different. OVERALL I would go back in a heartbeat. They have one of the most friendliest bartenders I ve met. They aren t bartenders that puts up a show but their passion and seeing them work their magic makes it a really fun spot to be around with.

Food tasty but not amazing. Great service

We had a team event recently at Gowings and it was fantastic. We had 20+ team members and Andrea was our main server. She and the Gowings team made us all feel comfortable and made sure the food and drink kept coming. We were served family style and had Rib Eye, T-Bone, Delmonico, Chicken Saltimbocca, Ricotta Gnocchi and more. The food was fantastic and Andrea was able to accommodate several dietary restrictions without any issue. The food was great, great wine and drinks and fabulous service from Andrea and Team. Ive been there before for smaller events and I highly recommend Gowings for a small dinner or team event. It was a great night!

I was visiting the bar this weekend, the service and the food was exquisite. I had a very nice experience, more than anything because of Diegos attention, who was very generous, kind and met our expectations. Thanks and Ill be back soon!

Very convenient if youre going to a show at the State Theatre. But I do feel its very over priced, steaks are upwards from $70, starters/snacks upwards from $25. The Tortellini was $40 and you got 6 small pieces in a soup. Not very big for a main. Staff and service was great. Just not sure about the value for money here.

Food was very good: the only spoiler was the fennel salad served with the pork cutlet was underwhelming. Wine list was excellent. Servers were attentive, but there was a wait of nearly an hour between entrees and mains! Worth a visit just to check out the amazing decor (and, yes, you can exit by the old wooden stairs)!

My partner and I used to frequent this bar often but hadnt been in a while. Finally had some time to come in on Friday night. We found the menu had mostly changed and there didnt seem to be as many options. We ordered half a dozen oysters which used to come with a variety of dressings to try but now only comes with one. My partner had the baked burrata which had a little too much vinegar in it but the cheese itself was beautiful. I had the Scotch fillet steak medium rare but it came out quite rare. Lovely steak but I probably shouldve sent it back as it affected the enjoyment of my meal. Thats my mistake. The truffle mac and cheese is no longer a side either, absolutely devastated at this as it was a favourite of ours. Unfortunately we probably wont come back in a while as we were quite disappointed, which breaks my heart as I honestly used to love this restaurant.

Amazing food, pricey, but worth the splash out. I had scotch fillet steak with duck fat potatoes followed by a buffalo milk gelato with luxardo cherries for dessert, which was simple and incredibly delicious.

We had a great dinner here with first impression of warm greetings from the host. The red wine and cocktails were served with interesting explanation and the steak were delicious with correct way of cooking that we wanted. We highly recommend the place to anyone want to try good food and great service.

The cocktails were delicious and the food outstanding; the ricotta gnocchi deserves a special mention. We experienced fabulous service from the glamourous lady who took us to our table and the friendly server, who was already informed from our booking that this was a pre-theatre meal and kept things timely. The only criticism was that conversation could be challenging with the loud music that was playing. Definitely recommended, and we will be back to try the steak that looked amazing at a neighbouring table!

This is a great place for a meal before or after a show at the State theatre. Great food, amazing service and some serious wines and cocktails. Its a little tricky to find the first time as you take the lift in Parlour and walk past the hotel lobby, look for a big light in the shape of an exclamation mark and head up the stairs. They have a number of casual seats at the bar and some share plate options if you are after a more casual outing.

Its the best restaurant one must try. The ambience is really good and the food was also great I had an amazing time there. You can also try Sydney rock oyster,farmers breakfast, and veal all were delicious. You will definitely enjoy your time here. Parking: It depends at what time you visit this place.

At the bar area was really nice. Bartenders were professional and friendly. Good cocktails. Food wasnt my taste, but I was enjoying every bite of the burger and kingfish. Recommend to make a booking if you plan to be there after 5pm. Its busy.

Best birthday lunch at Gowing! Filippo was our main waiter and his service skills were amazing ! The Caesar salad he made at table side was amazing ! Everyone was friendly and the food was immaculate would definitely recommend. My partner dressed very causal would recommend wearing smart causal fits the vibe more but didn t feel judge by any staff member all were warm and welcoming !! Located on the first floor of the Sydney State Theater (not the Opera House)! It feels like a long time ago and the oysters are especially fresh! The steak is especially delicious! The salad is also very good! Great atmosphere and great service! It is rare to have a warm and beautiful young girl who can speak Chinese, which gives me, a person who is not very good at English, a consultant in my choice!

Fabulous food, terrific waitpersons and great atmosphere! We went here for dinner before a show after finding it through Google. What a hidden gem. Atmosphere is querky but classy with a bit of old world Gatsby charm. We were early for our booking so sat at the bar and ordered cocktails while listening to the funky DJ who played great tunes all the time we were there, loud enough to enjoy but not too loud that you couldnt chat easily so he created a good vibe. Our waitperson Phillipo looked after us with a smile and answered all of our questions about the menu with great information and was passionate about the food. He made our visit really great fun. All of the staff were really friendly and professional but relaxed. The food was next level heavenly....linguine crab pasta was amazing, beautifully cooked, spaghetti vongole cooked to perfection and the biggest pork chop we have ever seen, we all had a piece of it, delicious! Dessert ( which we managed to squeeze in...lol) is not to be missed...we had liquorice gelato and also English trifles ....wow, so good!! Massive thanks to the chef and his team who we could see working in the background creating these delicious dishes and also to the waitstaff and hostesses who all made our night very memorable. We will definitely be back, so many other dishes, cocktails and mocktails to try, cant wait.

It is better to visit during lunch time rather than dinner. The reason is that it is available without reservation.

After walking around like crazy for breakfast and lunch, I wanted to eat meat, so I decided to go to this place. Maybe it was because I was hungry, but I couldnt find it even on Google Maps, so it was difficult to find, but the sign was very big above. I went into the theater building, took the elevator, and took the stairs to get in. It was a high-end restaurant, so my family of three with backpacks felt a little embarrassed. I ordered 400 grams of steak, ordered vongole, and had steak and chips on the kids menu. My kids enjoyed the steak, and my wife and I also cut the soft and juicy steak into pieces and ate it without conversation. I ordered broccoli as a garnish, and it had long stems, so it felt like it wasnt broccoli. It was flavored with garlic and pepper, so it was nice to eat the meat and garnish, and it took away the greasy taste. I even ate the stems. It was so delicious because it even had carbohydrate vongole. I didnt order wine because I dont know much about it. If you go to Korea, you will regret it~ They even did a disassembly show by ordering T-bones from the table next to them, which was nice to see. My husband book us in QT hotel for the night and we had dinner here, what a hidden gem?. I love the deco, food are tasty, the service is top notch, friendly staff, I couldn t fault anything. Highly recommend this gem

Cant believe this! I came here with my wife and two children and all of us we were throwing up sick! Meat is uncooked, and the service is no better. Safe to say, none of us are coming back! Kid-friendliness: Every child I saw was terrified. Absolutely not child friendly!

Great food

The food was amazing, the service in the bar and the restaurant was impecable. Shani our waitress, was lovely, friendly and knowledgable. We only wish we got to know the bar staffs names so we could thank them directly. Overall it was a relaxing and extremely pleasent experience. Hopefully well be back soon. Thank you all :)

It was the best meal of my trip to Australia

It was a bit noisy during meals as it was in the same space as the bar. But the steak was the best Ive had in Australia!

What an absolute delight. Amazing food and service. World class. Try the Caesar salad made in front of you ! The crumbed pork chop was sensational. Honestly such a great experience.

I have been several times to Gowings with friends and thought I would celebrate my anniversary at Gowings and was really looking forward to it. I told the staff when I booked however when I arrived they didnt bother to check the booking. I ordered a glass of Perrier Jouet and my husband ordered a beer to start. I received my champagne however he received his beer on tap 20 mins later. They took our entree which came out in 5 mins then main within 10 mins of ordering even though we asked to stagger it. The bottle of wine we ordered was poured 10 mins into mains. After we finished which was 50mins after we got there, they asked us if we wanted dessert and we said we would hold off for 30 mins. The whole experience was rushed and not enjoyable even though the place was half empty and the food was average. Unfortunately I have booked high tea tomorrow for 7 or 8, I hope we have a better experience!

went out for dinner here last night. when ordering we had a pasta which was considered quite hot, we asked our waiter if the chilli can be limited and they told us no, the chef doesn t like changing up his recipes so , so we got a pasta of seafood which we were on edge about because we are not huge seafood fans, then we ordered potatoes and the pizza for entree and our waiter says to us ooo that s a lot of carbs. do you want a salad instead , i personally thought this was disgraceful and i am still in shock the next morning after the seafood didn t get eaten so was a waste of money. our dirty plates was not taken for 30 minutes after sitting there not touching and asked for the bill to leave. wont be back unfortunately

The staff make this place! From the time we arrived to the time we left each staff member accomodating our little family with a toddler, which is not very common in nice restaurants in Sydney CBD. I also work in the industry for over 15 years and so impressed with the service and how happy the staff. You made our night celebrating the husbands Birthday and juggling a toddler !! Food was delicious. We had the pickled muscles, linguine crab pasta, wagyu steak and roast potatoes. Wait staff were friendly and polite.

We were staying at the QT and went several times for cocktails, The cocktails were amazing as was the atmosphere and decor. The service was very slow. The staff were polite but basically ignored us after our first drink each time, they forgot drink orders consistently. The place wasnt very busy and we noticed other tables also constantly trying to wave staff down or get their attention. The drinks were good enough Id go back but with better service itd be 5 stars.

Had the rib eye with duck fat potatoes. Cooked perfectly . However I believe the waitperson ( Alice ) made a big difference to the overall experience as much as the food. Great night had by our table of 4

Such a surprise. Exciting busy bar and then to the restaurant which was also full. Plenty of wait staff. Very friendly, efficient and attentive. Very attractive decor. Food was excellent. Oysters with caviar and an excellent sauce. Scallops with a butter sauce flavoured with anchovies was perfect. Sure fillet cooked just right with duck fat potatoes, asparagus aside and brocollini. Lava cake vesuvius excellent. Expensive but very worth it

Its ok. Pre-covid time was better, like you could tell that they have put effort into the menu and the food. Now it is just a fancy-ish restaurant that has not much speciality and dedication in it.

A wonderful spot for celebrating a special occasion or simply celebrating the end of the work week. We had the burrata and peaches with a superb pesto sauce followed by calamari and then the divine pasta dishes which didn t leave much room for dessert, tempting as they looked. Everything was delicious, focusing on fresh ingredients as the star of the dishes. The only thing that marred it slightly was the waitress trying to convince us to have the pizzetta with ricotta to mop up the burrata as it felt like we were being upsold, but generally speaking, the service was excellent. Highly recommended

First had trouble finding way in. Was put in the lift the walked up stairs. We arrived just after 9 and was hoping still serving food as most things closed for a Monday night. Restaurant not over busy..but Waited for service. Food was exceptional and tasted fresh. Waited for service for dessert menu. That also was good. But had to wait to pay and wasnt asked if we required another drink. Waiter couldnt be seen so had to ask for the bill.

Not a place for cocktail connoisseurs. I ordered a Smokescreen and it took a long time for the bartender to make it as he seemed to be having a discussion with his colleagues. It turned out that they didnt have any Chartreuse so he simply left it out and added more lime juice. I know this because I was watching the bartender make my drink. I was on a date with my girlfriend and she doesnt like it if I complain and ask to be served what I actually paid for. This is just a place for pretentious people who have no clue what a decent cocktail tastes like. I was thinking of trying the food here but after sampling their over-salted french fries I have zero confidence in the kitchen staff to be any better than the bar stuff. I will never go back here!

Was very impressed with the service. We had tickets for a show at the State Theatre (next door) and the person who served us coordinated things so that we were all done in time to make it for the the theatre. The cocktails were lovely and our meals first class.The team are professional and beautifully attired, the space itself is interesting and inviting. I really enjoyed the evening and we will be back for sure.
