I came here to eat a steak, but they said I couldnt order it unless I made a reservation, so I ordered a burger. It looked like a restaurant popular for burgers, and everyone seemed to be visiting to eat burgers. The chef came out and cut the bread and beef. It looked good on the outside, but the taste was surprisingly average to the point where you couldnt tell it was better than Burger King. Bettys burger in the $10 range is about three times more delicious. The locals looked like they were eating the French fries with admiration, but I didnt want to spend more than 10,000 won on seasoned potatoes from Lotteria, so I didnt order them. Theres a lot of talk about taking away a customers cell phone, but there was no such absurd action at all.

Great food, lovely steak and burgers and excellent service and atomosphere.

Went for dinner for my birthday. Probably the best food/service combo I ve had in Sydney. Servers were brilliant and the food was sensational. Will be back!

The experience was ruined when right at the start we got given a glass that chipped my friends lip and the only condolences we got was we owe you a drink the food is ok but overrated as, burger was dry and didn t live up to the hype, way better spots where you don t get injured on arrival and can actually use your phone without the staff staring at you

We had a great dinner last night.I took my management team out for a nice meal before the silly season and it was perfect. It was such a nice feed, the passing of the plates, the drinks and being present without phones just makes it even more special. Max our waiter was great, he was entertaining, professional and light at the same time. The sommelier with the nice beard did a great job recommending some nice tempranillo. There was a lovely guy that just served us our burger, what an entertainer. We stayed until the very end, bad hospo habit, but we never felt rushed. Professional, warm and fun. Great night. I recently visited The Gidley in Sydney and had a fantastic experience. From the moment I stepped in, the elegant yet cosy atmosphere set the tone for a memorable evening. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable, offering excellent recommendations from their extensive menu and wine list. The food was exceptional every dish was cooked to perfection and presented beautifully, especially the steaks, which were tender and packed with flavour. The sides complemented the mains perfectly, and the cocktails were top-notch. Overall, The Gidley provides a sophisticated yet welcoming dining experience that I highly recommend for any special occasion.

If you go to Sydney, I would like to highly recommend that you make a reservation and go to Gidley. I met the steak of my life. It looks easy to pass by from the outside, but once you open that door and go in, you are in a different world. I ordered a steak, a burger, and wine. First of all, the bread as an aperitif was excellent. The juice bursting out of the steak inside the burger was fantastic. The cooking, seasoning, and everything about the steak was so good. It was the most delicious restaurant Ive eaten in Sydney. Its a shame I couldnt take pictures because I had to take my phone away, but the interior was nice and the staff were very friendly.

Subpar/salty food with average service with waiters who have a poor attitude towards customers who dare to touch their own phones. Sadly, we can not even use our phones to discuss matters related to work. Clearly, the restaurant is shy to have their foods be reviewed publicly as there are strictly no photographs of their foods. My mind and tastebuds have been blown by that burger...... My goodness, youre doing yourself a disservice if you dont eat here at least once. Specifically for that burger.... I will be back.

the burger and egg was outstanding, and came out promptly (which i really appreciated as i was running for a flight.) juicy, charred, full of flavour. nice creaminess from the sauce and cheese really really top notch. service was wonderful thanks so much! will definitely be back.

I arrived without a reservation, there was no availability in the dining room so I saw in the lounge which has a very limited menu. I ordered: Burger: it is dry aged, very beefy Crispy pickles: amazing Smoked cheddar: good Amandine ( Mocktail) : prefect blend Will come again to try the full menu.

If you love your steak this is a place I would recommend, sides of pumpkin, mac and cheese and broccolini also great, the burger was a great way to start shared amongst 4 people along with Tuna 2 ways, service was fantastic very attentive, can be a little hard to find with no sign except for the logo, go down the stairs press the button for the intercom, we had a large booth and was very comfortable.

The Gidleys iconic burger has taken a regrettable turn, ironically following many accolades and even recent recognition as one of the Top 10 Best Burgers in the World. The burger and fries, a dish synonymous with The Gidley, was disappointing tonight (and I m saying this after eating the same burger fifteen previous times). The bacon was overcooked and dry, and confusingly so were the beef patties. The most perplexing change, however, was the fries. Gone are the towering silver cups of crispy, golden fries. In their place now, a brown paper bag (the kind served for school recess) filled with lukewarm, stale fries and a side of spiced seasoning, with the instruction from the waiter to, season and shake the bag. While the intent by the newly hired chef may have been to add a playful touch, it felt out of place in such an upscale setting like The Gidley, and probably something more appropriate at Maccas. Perhaps a return to the original recipe and former chef s preparation methods could restore The Gidley Burger to its former glory.

Horrendous attitude towards customers from front staff. Waiters constantly making petty comments through meal service which made me feel extremely uncomfortable. Definitely visit if you have a love for verbal abuse from staff and paying for overpriced food/drinks

We visited this restaurant for my husband s birthday two years ago.. when we were seated by the host and asked to hand over our phones, I was immediately apprehensive but intrigued at the same time.. I thought oh maybe this place is really special!! so we gave our phones willingly, we were then approached by a different waiter asking if we want bagels, however in my head I heard we would like your bangles lol.. so I wanted to absolutely leave!! Then I realized they asked if we want bagel s.. which we had and was ordinary.. the whole experience was ordinary, the food, the demands.. I m paying you to be there not the other way around!! So when we eventually settled our account and was about to leave, they couldn t find our phones?? We waited, waited and waited some more. The food was so disappointing.. I can t even remember what we had.. I just know we will never be back!! Go to Hubert s French cuisine.. amazing!!

I walked in on a busy late night without a booking but the team mentioned to wait for a few extra minutes. In the end, I got a table and oh boy! The service was fantastic, loved dark and lightly ominous stairwell. Best cheeseburger Ive ever had. Recommend to add Chips + Pickle Salt al along with a Dirty Martini. I had an unforgettable dining experience at The Gidley yesterday with a friend. From start to finish, everything was on point! We started with the oysters and tuna prepared two ways both fresh and bursting with flavour. while the burger squid were creative and beautifully cooked.The rib-eye and the kangaroo was the star of the show juicy, perfectly cooked, and packed with flavour. We balanced it out with some sides: cos lettuce for a refreshing crunch and lion s mane mushrooms that were earthy and rich. For dessert, the ice cream and donuts hit the spot, offering the perfect mix of indulgence and sweetness.To top it off, we explored their cocktails and wine list, and they didn t disappoint. The wines were crafted to perfection, pairing well with each course.The ambiance and service were just as impressive as the food, making it an all-around amazing experience. If you re looking for top-notch food and a great vibe, The Gidley is a must-visit. Can t wait to go back!

Great service, food overpriced yet excellent

Came here for an anniversary it was a fantastic experience. Ambience is relaxing, service was friendly and wonderful. All the food and cocktails were great but highlights for me was the spinalis, pumpkin and the fresh pretzel at the start. Unfortunately we were in a rush to get to a show but the staff were super accomodating. Cant wait to be back to take our time and try more of the menu (:

The staff were professional and polite. Confused by the no phone policy, how did other Goggle Reviews take their amazing photos? Food was excellent but the wait was almost an hour, 6.30pm order was in, we didnt get our food until 7.25pm We ordered 4 steaks and 4 sides (fries, brocolinni, mac & cheese and lettuce salad) We should have been informed in the beginning about the extended wait time. Staff recoomendation from drinks to dessert were spot on.

Extremely hard to get a booking at this place. There s lots of positives here - the burger was really good, use of high quality mince, heavy American cheese and great set of buns. Definitely one of the better burgers I ve had. The ambience and service was also very good, nice and intimate which is great for couples who like to dine regularly. Unfortunately had to give 3 stars because we felt the steak wasn t up to scratch, felt it was very under salted and wasn t really cooked well as we didn t get the crispy outer layer and tender on the inside. Strangely we felt the cut wasn t that tender and soft even when it was a rib eye.

I would do naughty things to this burger , my partner said. I have raved about The Gidley for the past 5 years and was finally able to justify the hype when we dined in last night. Squid, Burger (+ bacon a must) and 2018 Yalumba Shiraz all necessities.

Food was decent. The chips in the bag to salt to your own liking was a nice touch. However our experience was ruined by a rude waiter who stormed over to us to chastise us for using a phone. We appeared to be the only ones singled out as others around us also had their phones out and were taking photos. Later that night, this same waiter took a photo for another table using their phone.

Food took incredibly long to come to our table -we waited for nearly an hour and a half. Also they charged us a service charge, screw that crap - include it in your overpriced food already. Your waiters barely spoke english and all they did was cut my burger in half. Why on earth should i be paying 10% extra for that. Skip the dessert menu too nothing special

Went to the Gidley for their burger over lunch time. We didn t have a reservation but they were able to seat us, we ordered 2 burgers and chips. 45minutes later, still no sign of our food. We had asked a few times how long more it would be and were told again and again 5mins. Yet, still no food. After 55mins we needed to leave and accepted the offer to cancel the order. We asked what the delay was and were told that Everyone came at the same time but this is not the case as another table of 2 arrived ahead of us, and a quick glance around showed other tables having ordered or already eaten. Either way, 2 burgers shouldn t not take almost 1 hour.we were then told there is a time limit but were not advised of this when we were seated. Needless to say, we left more hungry than when we arrived. Very disappointing as we had heard great things about the Gidley and are big fans and frequent visitors to their sister restaurants. We did manage to enjoy a glass of Coca Cola but that hardly counts as lunch.

It was a shame that I couldnt take a picture because I had to pay for my cell phone. Dinner with friends It was nice to be able to just focus on each other and eat while talking without cell phones.

This is a famous steak restaurant in Sydney. To be honest, I wasnt expecting how delicious it would be, but the meat melted... However, I dont recommend the kangaroo meat,,, Its a high-end restaurant, but the service was good and not burdensome! Its a shame that I cant take pictures, but I went with a group of people and tried a variety of dishes. I recommend eating it.

Amazing lunch at the Gidley! Went to the lounge the first time, and had an amazing burger. Returned with reservations in the dining room and the wife and I had an amazing time. Again, an absolutely amazing burger, but the fries, the drinks - everything was delicious. And then we tried the dessert which was in fire, and it was again - absolutely delicious! Highly, highly recommended! Must stop by here, at least for a burger!

Honestly so impressed by the service at The Gidley. Its a true art form being made to feel so looked after. It feels rare to me to be looked after in a way that is not superficial at such an elegant establishment these days. One of the managers, Jeanmarc, really has got making patrons feel looked after down to a fine art. Many thanks.

We have been celebrating our wedding anniversary dinner dates here for the last three years. It never disappoints. The food is always excellent and the staff are lovely as well. The ambience is very nice, it can be romantic and fun at the same time. Looking forward for our next anniversary date when well be celebrating 19 years together.

My first time dining at The Gidley & it definitely will not be my last. Had dinner for my wifes birthday and we both absolutely loved it, The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. The highlights for us was the Gidley Burger & Spinalis Would have been awesome to be able to take some photos of the food however they do have a no phone policy. The ambiance and vibe is in this establishment is awesome. Big thanks to our server Reuvin he was an absolute legend. Cant wait to visit again.

Food is incredible, I still wish the confit ocean trout from the early days was a mainstay but new items are great. Jean Marc gave us impeccable service.

A restaurant only for the chosen ones I love such places. During my short trip, I had the opportunity to eat kangaroo steak in this restaurant, which turned out to be tastier than beef! An extraordinary experience for a European. I highly recommend it.

Went to the Gidley to meet up with some old friends. As such we ordered a wider range of items. The food is worth the price, but I may have been wrong to go in with expectations of the 24th best steak in the world and the best cheeseburger in Australia.The steak was delicious but not as interesting of a flavour as Rockpools. The mac n cheese is truffle flavoured, which overpowers every other aspect. The potatoes were nice but forgettable. The spinalis cut was a very interesting flavour but I think would be too rich to have as a main, so was glad we shared among a few people. The salads were a nice accompaniment to the meal without trying to be the star of the show. Ultimately, they created a very enjoyable experience and thats probably the most important thing

The place had the best taste and atmosphere You put your cell phone in a pouch before submitting it, but if you ask for a picture, they take it out and take a picture. Everyone is gentle and kind. As for meat, the ribeye was the most delicious. The number of grams is provided, but when I visited, 800g was the smallest size. The perfect mash on the side was delicious. Be sure to make a reservation~

Lovely restaurant with its own a distinct personality (won t give anything away as it is an experience) ..attentive, knowledgeable and engaging staff dressed to impress .. Unique menu and a variety of technicality to the dishes/offerings and some great wines A steakhouse that only serves rib eye (or derivatives) was not what I expected .this is Australia and one of the greatest beef producers in the world .hope they can work some other fine cuts into their menu . This place is hidden away and a real surprise when you get down stairs. To be honest I found it all a bit stuffy but there s no denying that the staff are very professional. The famous burger is very tasty but incredibly rich, the rest of the food was a bit of a mixed bag. Vegetarian options: Pretty limited.

Presentation of the food is wonderful, but tastewise i d rather pass the meat isn t flavourful in the burger and the pickle was not tasty theres so many things missing to make the burger more flavourful. Shrimp roll lacked flavor including the bread it was encased in. Oyster was probably the best thing we had in this restaurant. Rethink the shake shake fries they honestly have no flavor and the seasoning is so little.

Wow, whether youre looking for a good meal with mates or to impress a special someone, from the moment you walk down the secret staircase to the giant door and need to buzz to get access you feel like youre somewhere special. With private dining rooms, a bar area and the dining area, theres something for everyone here. Get the bourbon baba and enjoy the spectacle!

You can find it easily if you know the store logo. If you arrive earlier than your reservation time, you can have a drink at the bar while waiting. Aside from the expensive menu, the atmosphere and service of the store are very nice.

The Gidley provided an exceptional dining experience, even after a small reservation glitch, which the team quickly and efficiently resolved without any fuss. The service was some of the best Ive had in a long time kudos to the staff! The food was delicious, with the mac and cheese being absolutely elite. I also appreciated the no-phone policy in the dining room, similar to their sister restaurant, Bistecca. It really allows you to fully immerse yourself in the experience. Highly recommended for a top-notch meal and outstanding service!

Nice atmosphere and interior. Unfortunately their burger doesnt live up the hype and is served in the most pretentious way Ive ever seen (and Ive been to 3 hats restaurants so Ive seen pretentious). I really dont need you to wear a white glove, touch my food and cut the burger for me. Unfortunately it was very greasy and the fries were too salty. My local burger joints are way in front of this.

We came for the burger and it was great! Its a double patty burger, with a rich, creamy American cheese melted on top and served with a toasted milk brioche bun. Optional egg or bacon is available. If youve ever had Au Cheval (Chicago) or 4 Charles (NYC), this burger will taste very similar. Overall its a winner and should be on every burger lovers list

Jazz club steakhouse vibes but without the jazz. Relaxed and yet elevated. Seating is comfy, loungy, love the booths. Perfect for catch ups with friends, date nights or if you fancy, a private poker room For our meals, we all had the burger as it s listed on the 19 must try dishes of Sydney according to UrbanList, didnt disappoint. Cooked to perfection, bun was fluffy and very satrisfying.Potato gratin also a very solid. Butter lettuce salad with creamy feta and radish, fresh and tangy. Prawn cocktail, solid but not outstanding, happy to try it once then move on. Fried prawn heads were interesting but we gave it a go. Thumbs up for the cocktails, can vouch for the Jaffa Old Fashioned. Orange notes cut through the 3 half shots of whiskey Excellent service by host, servers and bartenders. We were interrupted by a fire alarm and firemen who may or may not have been strippers. Definitely had the look to be entertainers. They knew the service they were providing to the gals and gays sneaking looks. The no phones policy was a surprise, not because we spend time on our phones during dinner, but we do love to snap pics of food for reviews, memories and to share etc - hence the lack of images on this review. Some minor notes but overall definitely deserved the good reviews, would go again for sample the steak The entrance is tricky to find, it s a dark navy blue door down 5-6 stairs. Look for 155 King Street, the stairs are to the left - buzz for access. Nice and unusual experience, speak-easy style!

At noon, I took my children to a steakhouse with a high rating, wanting to enjoy the local food. Unfortunately, because there is a bar in the store, children under the age of 18 are not allowed to dine inside! A group of us had to leave the restaurant disappointed! Remind all families that children under 18 years old do not need to make a reservation for this restaurant! Don t miss out on dining here! Hope to have the opportunity to enjoy its meals in the future!

Visited on 13/7 to celebrate a friends birthday. The restaurant had a no phones policy while dining in the main dining hall which is fine, no complaints for us to really focus on the experience. Our server (Tan - hope I got her name right) was fantastic at explaining the menu and suggesting wine pairings. She was very accommodating to help us take a few pictures when the food arrived. We ordered the oysters for starters, the English cut and boneless ribeye paired with potato gratin and Brussels sprouts which was all delicious and portions were good. After about 1.5-2hrs, we were informed that we would be moved to the bar area as the table was needed by the next reservation. No issues on that, however when we wanted to get dessert at the bar, this was when our experience went downhill. The waiter working at the bar on that day came to us after awhile, and told us that we had to be patient and that this is not Asia, we dont not wave or call for the waiter by raising our hands. We wanted to order the chocolate crémeux for dessert and he put us in a spot by asking us Do you know how to pronounce it? You can pronounce chocolate can you? Felt that it was very uncalled for, sarcastic and rude. Did not know that paying customers had to be able to pronounce every word on the menu in order to be able to dine there. Did not feel that he was sincere in providing service unlike his other colleagues which gave us a fantastic experience from the start and sad to say, this spoiled the entire experience for us. In short, food and environment was good. Service wise could be a hit or miss as some individuals has to work on their attitude. Wouldnt be dying to come back due to this experience.

Probably one of the fanciest, yet friendliest and most delicious places Ive ever had good at. From the minute you walk in the door, to the time you have some of the best beef burgers youve ever had, as well as some super tasty cocktails I felt as though this place was worth every dollar spent. Burgers were to die for, definitely a top contender for best burgers in Sydney. Limited edition cocktail was boozy yet refined. Only slight nitpick was the chippies. They were definitely good, however I reckon having some larger steak cut chips combined with some fancy seasoning would make this place the best place in Sydney. Would highly recommend this place anytime!

I initially had a hard time finding The Gidley, but once I discovered the secret passageway and made my way downstairs, I was blown away. The service was excellent, and the steak was outstanding! Most of the sides we ordered were fantastic, except for the mac and cheese, which I wouldn t recommend. The cocktails were also exceptional, especially the Gold Digger. The pecan pie was divine. The speakeasy vibes and the no-phone policy create a great atmosphere for genuine communication and unwinding, though I did wish I could take some photos of the experience for memories.

Reading the previous reviews before going, I had prewarned the kids (21 and 18) that phones would be put in pouches by the staff prior to dining. I think they were a little apprehensive but the dinner could not have been any more fun. The food was just amazing! I never go to a steak restaurant like this and order a burger but the reviews told me otherwise so we ordered one to share between the four of us as an entre.....omg it was awesome! The steaks and the fish (yep fish) were cooked perfectly. The service and drinks were excellent too. Conversation flows when phones are away, so ended up a memorable night with the family for my birthday.

A thoughtful dining experience with standouts being the spinalis and burger. I have to say I found one of the waiters to be particularly rude. As soon as he found out we werent interesting in drinking alcohol (at 2PM no less), his manner was a lot more short and abrupt. My guess would be he figured we wouldnt spend as much as the corporates? He sent our burger out as an entree which was a bit annoying. I asked for a medium rare steak and he replied, well I can do medium ... ??? When kindly asking if we wanted our empty dishes removed, he also took our half full fries. He was again very abrupt when we werent interested in dessert at 3 PM. That unfortunately has tainted what otherwise was a nice meal in a thoughtfully designed restaurant.

Food was delicious, but service was meh. Within a few mins of us sitting down, 3 different waitresses asked if we wanted any alcoholic drink to start which came off pushy. We mentioned that one of us had nuts allergy in the booking, but the staff failed to inform us that some dipping sauces contained nuts until we almost finished the meal. I have sent the feedback to the restaurant a week ago yet they haven t replied but I can see the owner replies to review here. Overall, despite great food, it s not worth it!

This place is a must!!! The entrance is hidden away but opens up to a fabulous array of spacious rooms with dim lighting. Immediately we were told we had to put our phones in a little bag at the center of the table, that would be returned to us at the end of the meal. I though this was a great idea. The service was impeccable, every waiter that serviced us was attentive, kind and helpful. Our Cocktails were presented beautifully, deconstructed and most importantly yummy. Our Meals were fabulous. We had the Burger as an entrée and a couple of steaks that were extremely succulent. It was a very classy establishment and reassuring that the waiters put no pressure on us to order the more expensive meals. In all we had about 5 cocktails, a bottle of wine, 2 entrees, 3 sides and 2 mains for around $500. We thought this was very reasonable and will certainly be back.

We choose the Gidley this week to celebrate my Daughter s Uni Graduation. What a great choice, service was first class, Gentleman s Club like atmosphere and the food!!! Amazing, we had a 1.4kg rib eye cooked 3 ways, best steak I have had, the condiments were also very tasty. Highly recommended and will definitely go back. I hoped I could take some photos of the food, but they asked to keep all phone away at the entrance.

What has happened to customer service? 2 weeks ago I contacted The Gidley about booking a table for a post graduation celebration for 9 people - 6 weeks out from the event. It transpired that we would need a table at 5.30pm for early dinner. We were offered the private dining room (we declined) and were then told bookings open 30 days prior. I diarised it. Went online to book 30 days out at 2pm but couldnt book 5.30 for some reason. I re-contacted the Gidley and was told by the same person, As reservations opened at 7am this morning, I can see that another guest has booked the 5:30pm seating in the meantime so we can currently offer you either 2:30pm for a later lunch or our second seating for dinner at 8:30pm. That is not much use to as as we will still be in the graduation cerelony at 2.30, and 8.30 is way too late. Do they only have 1 table for 9 people at 5.30? and if that was the case why wasnt I told 2 weeks ago to get online first thing in the morning to get in quickly. I felt treated with disrespect and contempt for my enquiries to book there. Thank goodness there are many amazing steakhouses and restaurants in Sydney to choose from. We recently celebrated another graduation at Cafe Sydney and the service was so incredible and the staff very helpful. Gidley has much to learn about how to treat people!

Ive been a fan of Gidley for a while now, having previously enjoyed their delicious burgers with a solid 10/10 rating. However, my recent birthday dinner experience left much to be desired. Upon arrival, my wife and I were excited to try Gidleys unique meat dishes. Unfortunately, the evening took an unexpected turn when our waiter displayed peculiar behaviour, kneeling on the floor and leaning on my wifes chair as we placed our orders. Things went further downhill when we discovered an unpleasant surprise halfway through our terrine entree something resembling a hair, but thicker and harder, embedded in the dish. Despite bringing this to the waiters attention, we were simply informed that it was from the pork skin. Needless to say, this ruined our appetite for the remainder of the meal. To make matters worse, when our main course arrived, we found our cutlery in a less than satisfactory state, with remnants of food stuck to the fork. The waiter attempted to shift blame to the table, rather than addressing the issue professionally. Disappointed but hopeful for redemption, we opted for the English cut as recommended by the waiter, promised to be tender from an extensive 8-hour slow cooking process. However, what we received was far from tender it was tough and chewy, a far cry from the promised dining experience. Overall, our visit to Gidley fell far short of our expectations. The service was disappointing, the food quality questionable, and the overall experience underwhelming. Sadly, this leaves us hesitant to return or recommend Gidley to others.

We had the pleasure of dining at this remarkable restaurant to celebrate Mother s Day. The staff I must say were exceptionally organised, professional, and friendly. The dishes served were truly outstanding, with freshly made, dense and chewy bagels, but tender and easy to bite through, a superb burger, and a succulent prime rib roast. Overall, it was an exceptional dining experience Impeccable service, exceptional food quality, and an impressive atmosphere. I highly recommend this restaurant for a memorable dining experience.

Was overcharged by over $70 called up the restaurant and was told theyd call back tomorrow and deal with it. Never received a call back, called the store the following day and the day after that. No answer. Thanks for stealing our money. Will not be back.

The great service at the restaurant was undermined by their lack of competency in evaluating the bill. We were overcharged without any explanation, and despite calling multiple times to clarify the situation, the problem was not resolved. Will not be going back anytime soon, even if we get our money back. Completely unacceptable from a renowned restaurant.

The food is fantastic, staff friendly and the atmosphere is second to none. It is our go-to place for celebrating special milestones or impressing interstate visitors. *Updating this this ending up being a pretty significant memory for us. We returned a few times to The Gidley with the most recent being our anniversary dinner which was a special moment. We now have a puppy which we have named Gidley as the place has a special place in our heart.

Great food, service, and vibes. No phones allowed

Wasnt the greatest experience in The Giddleys. We were 5 people having dinner. The waiter is over friendly and over comfortable until he sits down while taking orders. The food was generic, ordered the burger and it tasted ok, steak was normal, mac and cheers standard, potato gratin so so. Didnt really know how they set up the service but they use alcohol/cleaning detergent on the cloth, and wipe it in front of our face twice, once after we had our bagel and second after we had our main course. No courtesy at all when we were having fun chatting then all of the sudden, the waitress either comes to take plates (even when theres still food on the table) or refill our drinks continuously which was pretty annoying when the waitress probably think were camels. The atmosphere was very good, room was amazing. The set up of the place was out of this world, just the service and food was pretty average or considerably bad.

Peter looked after us so well and made a fabulous experience even better. The bar, restaurant, food, cocktails and wine were all wonderful and they took such great care with my gluten free requirements. The martini, potato gratin and burger (with a lovely GF bun) are a must!!

A disclaimer: this place is definitely worth more than 4 stars but unfortunately based on our personal dining experience, not quite a 5 star. A 4.5 if you will! Also please note, we visited while I am pregnant in which the staff knew about this dietary req We finally made our way to The Gidley after talking about it for sometime. We had a 5:30 reservation for 2 and was greeted by a gentlemen who offered to take my scarf and directed us to our bar seat (nice!). We were only under 10 mins early but they sat us exactly at our reservation time, which was unusually rare in restaurants (its usually if we are early and its available well sit earlier, and vice versa if its not quite ready yet). We ordered two drinks (1 non alcoholic) and they brought it into our dining table (we have moved inside at this stage). As The Gidley is famous for, no phones allowed. The menus are to share. So we had the following: 0) Complimentary bagel with condiments: Freshly baked, came with 5 different condiments, nice touch. Husband is a big fan of bread lol **** 1) Prawn cocktail as entree: We loved it (admittedly me more than my husband as he doesnt share the same enthusiasm when it comes to prawn heads) ***** 2) The Gidley burger to share: We opted no add on (egg/bacon), so we had them the classic style, with pickles. It was juicy, however, about half or a little more of the patties were pink inside, which was surprising as the patties were quite thin and our waiter (who was lovely) has informed us that it was cooked through for me, it wasnt. So we had to dissect bits and pieces carefully before we had them. Such an easy thing to avoid, we thought! We had voiced this to one of the staff (not the same waiter) and he was way less accomodating than the waiter. Unfortunate *** 3) My husband had the English Cut. super tender, thinly sliced meat. Cooked medium. No complain ***** 4) I had the Spinalis, arguably the most succulent cut in the world. We were informed that only 4 restaurants in Sydney serve this cut, apparently. It didnt live up to my expectation for the title and $75 price tag for two main reasons: *** a) It was not seasoned other than olive oil, which I assume is probably by choice so I had to salt it deliberately on the table. b) It was sent out, you guessed it, pink and nicely medium. It was sent back to the kitchen, and second time around, half of it was still pink also. Wouldnt a simple dietary requirement of cooked well be easy enough to follow through by the kitchen? 5) Mac and Cheese as a side: nice crunch on the top, a touch too garlicky to taste. Would love a sinful creamier inside, as it was quite dry and compact **** 6) Chocolate crémeux for dessert, excellent. The chocolate is rich and the ice cream balanced it nicely. There were different textures present, a silky smooth paired with a crunchy bite. Worth an order! ***** The drinks: 7) Bel Air mocktail: tasty and refreshing **** 8) Sandia: subtle flavours ***** 9) The Almanac: Easily husbands favourite drink for the night. He had both serves lol ***** 10) The Gidley fortified: more sour than sweet, caught my husband by guard for a dessert wine. Nice paired with the dessert **** The service: Overall, really attentive staff. They were on top with topping up our waters which was great, as well as clearing our tables after each course. The only downside having 2 different staff who clearly didnt communicate to each other, kept coming back to our table and asked exactly the same question. Considering the venue is small, it was disruptive and we had to keep repeating ourselves with already ordered , we are still deciding, thanks about 4 times. The atmosphere: Nice little joint, pretty much exactly the same as what you see on the Gram though I thought a lot more intimate and cosy in real life. Music a touch too loud. Bathroom was nice and clean with extra amenities. Overall it was decent dining experience. Worth a try but probably wont be rushing back second time with great desire. Exceptional quality.

We came for lunch and between the two of us, we shared the Gidley burger (insane, the meat is so juicy), the prime rib roast (really good), the rib eye (the flavour was very smokey and was a bit too rich for my liking) and the fries and butter lettuce as sides (not bad but not amazing either). Definitely come for the burger!

Charged my friend $400 for accidentally booking for the wrong date! She called up and asked if they could just keep the deposit for the next weekend when she meant to book it for and they refused her - not a dollar given back and they were quite rude over the phone. She had to follow up multiple times to even get a response over a week later! Dont recommend

Going to the Gidley is always a delight. Arguably the best burger in Sydney. Some of the best steak in Sydney. The spinalis is a highlight. The side dishes are also amazing. The atmosphere is great. They take your phones away once you are seated at the tables. While a bit gimmicky, it does end up making for a better evening for all. All of this and it s priced relatively reasonably. Highly recommended.

Amazing food!! It was all very well made, we ll definitely go back for more! The drinks were good too! I did order a Piña Colada but it was very different to the ones I ve had before, they have their own recipe, it was interesting but I wouldn t order it again. They also took our phones! So I can t provide any photos for this post. It was a little annoying but it did force everyone not to get distracted on their phones which I guess is good. So I m 50/50 on this. The staff were good too. The first staff member who served us was quite different, maybe more informal and was using more slangs, which was surprising for this place but it was alright.

Walked in on a Friday evening for what s suppose to be the best burgers in Sydney and boy they definitely did not disappoint. The beef was so juicy with a slight crisp on the edge of the patty. The cheese was melt in your mouth delicious and the pickle was a nice refresher in between bites. Fries were also so tasty. Service was amazing and great drink options. The Gidley remains bookmarked on my list and will hopefully be returning very soon for the steak.

Finally a 5 star review from every point of view! We went to this place and ate in the wine room. Being a group of Italians, we were served by the restaurant manager who is Italian. This made our experience unforgettable. The entrance to the restaurant is not very flashy but you can immediately perceive the quality. At the entrance there is a free cloakroom and immediately afterwards you are accompanied to your table. The philosophy of the restaurant includes the absence of smartphones and to better appreciate the dinner experience, cell phones are placed in a pouch. The quality of the service was impeccable, the guys filled the glass with wine or water whenever necessary. The meat menu is varied and we placed a varied order that allowed us to taste the entire meat menu from the eye bone to the roast. The quality/price ratio of the meat was always excellent, the meat was truly of excellent quality as was the cooking and seasoning which was never banal. The potato side dishes and desserts also deserve special mention, try them. The cellar is also excellent with some good wine gems. What can I say, congratulations, you deserve 5 stars

Wow! What an experience!

Absolutely amazing. From the service to the atmosphere and last but not least the amazing food. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. For mains we ordered the spinalis and the off the bone rib eye. WOW This was cooked to perfection, every bite you didn t want it to end. For our side dishes we got broccolini and fries. The broccolini was amazing, fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned. And the cocktails were delicious! Especially the Calipso. Can t wait to come back and try the beef burger. My Boyfriend and I really enjoyed the fact that they confiscate your phones. We always do this when we eat at a restaurant but it was so nice to see that everyone was actually enjoying themselves and making conversation instead of being on their phones. Such a great idea! Thank you for a very enjoyable experience.

Best dining experience Ive ever had Me and my partner went for my 30th and our anniversary.. we had a waitor that explained he was a new staff member.. This did not make a difference if anything it made the vibe more authentic for us. He did a fabulous job! The food was the best food Ive had in a long time, we ordered the Brussels and Mac and cheese for sides. We had two cuts of steak both amazing. Will definitely be back !!

I took my partner here for her 30th birthday after multiple recommendations from friends and it far surpassed my expectations. The service was amazing, we had the pleasure of Gale who was on his 3rd day in to his role and he did a phenomenal job of taking care of us for the night. What most impressed me about the service was despite much larger groups than just us two, every single member of the team was ensuring we were looked after and I haven t experienced better service in Sydney so I want to commend the whole team on an amazing job. The food was absolutely incredible and easily one of the best steaks I have had in Sydney. Make sure to get the Mac n cheese! Despite not wanting to have desert after being so full, the team still put a little birthday jelly together for my partner to ensure she had a candle to blow out for her birthday which was a lovely touch and one I won t forget. Overall 5/5 and we look forward to coming back to visit again soon.

Rarely am I left utterly breathe taken but the Gidley did leave me just that. I highly recommend this fine dining burger experience for the cue tips alone! Nothing like your stomach being full and your ear canal being empty. As I always go to wash my hands after a burger this extraordinary touch of class was the cherry on top to a pretty decent burger. Service was outstanding, even though, the staff could spot me a mile off coming in to the establishment in shorts, tshirt and a cap and knew I was only there to burg, cue tip and dip AND still they waited on me hand and foot like I was ordering a $600 steak. Hats off to you kind sirs. The ambience was something that stuck with me too. If I worked at a bank and was only on 200k a year I would totally bring my plastic wife here to treat her a little. Lastly but certainly not least, mum would of loved that your restaurant uses grown alchemist. This is a must stop on any Sydney burger tour.

This is the best restaurant I have been to in a long time. I went for my birthday, and everything was perfect. The venue feels a touch old school exclusive, but in a warm and welcoming manner. The service was impeccable, friendly, helpful, guide you through the experience. The waiters were so special, super attentive with my mum who just got out of hospital, and even gave me a little extra gift for my bday. And the food? Phenomenal. They market a steak which they call the best in Sydney. And I cant disagree. Ever dish was heaven. I love that potatoes are their own category! They have a no phone policy, and I didnt really think it would make a difference to the experience, but I felt all of us being much more present. This will be a favourite of ours for many years to come. Thanks Gidley for making it a special night.

My partner and I booked dinner Tuesday, 30 January for our anniversary. Lin, our waiter, was exceptional. He made a conscious effort to make us feel celebrated as well as a clear passion and interest in the food he was presenting. The food was incredible and the drinks as well! We will definitely be coming again and hope to see Lin!

Absolutely shocking experience, food was rubbish, price was excessive and the staff were rude beyond a joke. Even to the point that one of the staff that called himself Harry, coming over to me and my friends asking me what s the problem and pointing his watch repeating it s been 45 min since you ordered all because I asked another staff member how long the food was going to take, then when I followed him to give him a piece of my mind, he tells me don t talk to me , after which he was standing in the corner giving me dirty looks. Me and my group were absolutely shocked at the service. I ve tried to call the Gidley a few times before I wrote this review but can t get through.

Amazing experience! The location and ambience sent the vibes of mystery. The experience was calm, relaxing, and enjoyable. We arrived early at our dinner, we were warmly greeted by the staff, and they assisted in putting away our stuff for us. While we were waiting, they offered us water and drinks at the bar. Then we were taken to our table, where our phones were taken away. This is one weird thing that I actually enjoyed, as they want us to enjoy the food, ambience, and conversations with the people that we dined with, also they want the food and everything they offer to be a nice mystery for their future guests (explained the waiter). It was a very nice experience to enjoy my food and quality time with my husband without checking on our phones or taking photos. How the Gidley team served us was great and timely - from explaining the menu to delivering the food to cleaning the table. The whole experience showed how well the staff were trained to pay attention to details and treat each diner with respect. Here is the feedback on the food: The bagels were fresh and soft, came straight out of the oven, it came with some pickles and 3 sauces. We couldnt decide which one is our favourite as they all tasted so nice. The Gidley burger - we agreed with what the waiter claimed. It was the best burger weve eaten. The buns are soft. Te meat patties were made of premium cuts of the meat. They were both juicy and crispy. The humbled looking burger offered multiple textures and flavours. It was nice. The Spinalis steak was cooked nicely, juicy, and tender. There was a lemon on the side. But both of us found that adding the lemon was not necessary as the steak alone was nice enough. Potato gratin - my husband liked it because it was so rich in flavour, I, on the other hand, found it a bit too salty for my liking. Overall, it was a good dish. Thick cut bacon was delicious. The pecan pie was lovely. However, a little bit extra of that buttermilk ice cream would have balanced out the sweetness of the pie better. Something interesting that I noticed and appreciated (it shows their level of excellence) are: - they wiped the table with lemon grass scented cloth after each dish, it prepares my mind and my senses ready for the next dish; - how they transported the washed utensils carefully from the kitchen to storage space, ensure nothing makes any sound; - how they worked together as a team smoothly to take away dishes and clean, set up serving plates and serve the food; - the staff knew about and paid attention to the special occasion, and give a little surprise for it. I would say the whole experience was astounding and better than some of the dining restaurants weve been to. We will come back again.

Using mobile phones is prohibited inside. If youre looking for an intimate dinner with a good steak, this is the place to be. They also serve delicious burgers!

I had a great time at Gidley, where my guest and I could share some dishes. The food is very well made, tasty and nothing uow. Especially for the price you pay for. The atmosphere is very pleasant, classic and sophisticated. The venue is located at biulding basement so fot that I felt a bit too closed, no fresh air, with 20 people dining in the same room. And to finish, the service was amazing, the stand out of the placez and thats why I gave 5 . We had the pleasure to have Peter and Lin as our waiters, being always very friendly and attentive. Top noch! Overal, thats it! Would come back if they add some more options to the menu.

A very special dining experience with a mix of bar and high-end restaurant. The waiter was helpful and friendly to foreigners and the steak was served with perfect condition. No phone policy could be not used to everyone but it s a good chance to really sit back and enjoy the cousin. In general I d recommend to everyone who wants a unique and great steakhouse.

After a Hinge date described The Gidley as having the burger that changed my life , it s not as though this burger lover s expectations weren t coerced into the elevator to the culinary penthouse. But, here I am, in a bougie basement. The double patty beef burger arrives and is cut in half before my eyes by the single glove wearing Michael Jackson mf. Fresh is best and another second isn t wasted. Chomp. Focused, devoted, invested. Lips luminous, tongue tingling, goosebumps bumping, fingers licked. Dead be decorum - for all I know I m wearing this all over my face - there s only one other of life s delicate delicacies that deserves this attention and demands this reaction. I suddenly think of my Hinge date. Great burger. Life remains the same, but ever so slightly better for knowing this burger exists. Btw my favourite films; Indiana Jones, Raiders of the Lost Ark. The Gidley was one of the most special dining experiences. The food is phenomenal, you must order the english prime rib. Drinks were also well made and upscale. But most importantly, the atmosphere was unique and exciting. The entrance is a small door that you would never notice, which leads down to a low-lit intimate basement setting. The decor is elegantly vintage with dark woods, plush seating, and antique light fixtures casting a warm, inviting glow. Staff also offered to take our phones away at the beginning of the meal, which was a fun touch and added to them immersive experience.

Its sad that I cant take pictures of my food because I have to pay for my phone. But its full of amazing things - (the staff talks about amazing things a lot) The taste and atmosphere are the best! (*Reservation is required, but if you want to visit Isuang Sinsa, you can make it.)

The staff were so welcoming and friendly. The restaurant is fancy with an almost secret entrance down to a door with a buzzer entry. Good menu, although we were disappointed that the asparagus wasnt available. The steak was good, but for me, it needed to be tastier with less gristle. I feel like we were supposed to be wowed by the prices and the ambience, but I wasnt. However, the gluten-free bread is amazing (if a little small), and the sides are excellent. Particularly the Potato Gratin and Brussels Sprouts. The GF Chocolate & Cherry dessert was also good. It made a change from the usual Brownie always on offer to coeliac diners. The wine was perfect, and the glasses made it taste even better. Dietary restrictions: Lots of choice for gluten-free, GF, coeliac patrons.

Ah, The Gidley. Nestled in the heart of Sydney, this place reminds me oh too well of the lavish and extravagant lifestyle I have grown so accustomed to in New York and Boston. Now, let me cut to the chase. The burger here is akin to ambrosia served to the gods. Served by white gloves, no less! Youd think I was dining amongst the Olympus. The taste? Unparalleled. Each bite was a symphony of flavor that had both my tongue and my soul doing a jig. I wanted to consume it slowly, savoring every morsel, yet the divine taste left me fiendishly gulping down the entire thing in record time. As for the drinks, the word perfection comes to mind. They added just the right oomph to the meal, which is exactly what I needed after a demanding week of travel. Once again, I was reminded of my connections with high-end hotels/airlines, with the exceptional service and attention to detail that was readily apparent here. Absolutely fabulous all around. The staff, the service the food ALL on point. Definitely an experience everyone should counter at some point. Burger amd sides yum. Prawn cocktail wow!!! See you again soon!

had an absolutely lovely evening here! the food was phenomenal - we ordered the 300g boneless rib chop, wagyu burger with egg, and potato gratin. very generous serving sizes, with the burger being the absolute highlight that you cant skip. the patty was so succulent and juicy; definitely one of the best finer dining meals ive had in sydney. the menu was very reasonably priced ($115 in total without drinks). nice atmosphere with dim lighting and plush chairs; very attentive server who regularly topped up my glass. loved the entire experience and cant rave enough about it.

It was nice. Great setting, good wine list, food was nice. But for the price, I was expecting more out of the steak.

Highly recommend if you re looking for an intimate yet high quality, speakeasy type restaurant, especially for a small group of 5-6 people. The service is great, food is great, I would most certainly go back! The appetisers salted mackerel and pork terrine were epic. Boneless ribeye were perfect to share, and 100% on the the sides of garlic mushroom!

The food is absolutely indulgent and rich in the best ways. Ive been twice now and both times the food has not disappointed. First time we had the rib eye (recommended ~700g for two), oysters garlic mushrooms and brussel sprouts, followed by the pecan pie and sorbet. We loved our everything but the dessert was a let down in comparison. The brussel sprouts complement well, bringing acidity to cut some of the heaviness of the meal while mushrooms are gorgeouslu decadent. Yes, they were very strict on phones and checked that they were in the pouches before whipping them away. The atmosphere was calm with dimmed lighting. Second time round, we went with friends. We were recommended ~300g meat per person and 3-4 sides depending on if we were planning to get entrees and dessert. We had the rib eye, spinalis, english cut, cured mackerel, brussel sprouts, mesclun salad and asparagus. Our ribeye came out rare instead of medium rare which was a tad disappointing considering our first experience where it was perfectly done (for our liking). The English cut and spinalis were both wonderful and smokey. The prices was quite reasonable for the four of us, more so compared to the the first time with just the two of us (drinks both times). The atmosphere however, was brighter and noticeably louder which detracted from the experience. As my partner and I arrived before our friends, I asked our server of the night to keep one phone for the group, which he allowed. Interestingly, when our friends arrived, they took the pouches immediately and without checking so my friends didnt even know about the policy let alone have the chance to oblige. This is important as while we were settling the bill, my friend who speaks english as her second language and couldnt hear very well was being hassled by one of the older staff and not in a joking way. She explained that she just wanted to check something and not make a call but the staff was quit rude and went on for a few more moments where she was trying to clarify (again it was very loud), and he kept cutting her off. There seems to be a misunderstanding, as the staff seemed to assume my friends got the rundown when they actually didnt, not to mention it was the same staff who took the pouches without confirming our phones were in there, even though he shouldve felt that one was completely empty (1 out of 4 phones only). TLDR food is amazing, service is hit and miss it seems.
