Since 1977, The Alphorn has been serving guests from around the world! Our homestyle service and menu have everyone coming back over and over. From Canada's Best Schnitzel to Beers Of The World. From Apple Schnapps to the Alpenhorn. From the Candelabras to the Birthday Song. The Alphorn and the memories that come with it are absolutely priceless! Come on in and Ring That Bell!
I took my daughter as a treat to this restaurant because of the 4.3 star reviews on google. What a disappointment!! I ordered the Beef Bourginon for $26 and it was full fat and dry pasta thrown together. I sent it back and I was offered the option to pick something else from the menu. I choose the pretzel, thinking that it’s pretty hard to mess up a pretzel: BOY I WAS WRONG! old! Stale! Served with a gross, greasy “Beer Cheese Sauce” My daughter ordered the $45 cheese fondue. Served on a huge pot that should never have been presented to a paying client. Dirty and chipped. Stale bread. Cheese that looked as though it was melted in the microwave. Not at all recommended.
What a lovely place. Full on Alpine decor and Bavarian cuisine. We stopped for breakfast and both had the classic: 2 eggs over easy, Swiss rosti (basically hash browns), and a large sausage. It looked so good when it got to the table, I forgot to take a picture!
I literally just boiled raw elk and boar meat in oil at my table. So many things I never thought were possible. Fresh beer on tap. Classic decor. Free parking. Steins.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Alphorn Restaurant for breakfast, and it was a delightful experience. We tried the Classic Breakfast, Eggs Benedict, and waffles. Each dish was prepared to perfection and tasted fantastic. The Classic Breakfast was a hearty start to the day, with perfectly cooked eggs, crispy bacon, and golden hash browns. The Eggs Benedict was another highlight, featuring a rich and creamy hollandaise sauce over perfectly poached eggs. The waffles were light and fluffy, with just the right amount of sweetness. The staff was friendly and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed throughout our meal. The service was prompt, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. Overall, The Alphorn Restaurant provided a wonderful breakfast experience, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a delicious meal to start their day.
The coolest place in BM for dinner!!! Such a fun atmosphere and a must see. Felt like we were in the Alps!! Fondue was a great experience. Our sever was the highlight for us, he was so informative and knew everything there was to know!! We had a quick in and out process while enjoying an amazing meal.
Recently visited The Alphorn and it was delicious. Our server Sarah was attentive, chatted and kept checking in on us during our dinner. The pretzels are delicious! Could not fault our meal or service. Husband's meatloaf was yummy and the garlic mashed potatoes were amazing. Chicken schnitzel was very good and using the lemons squeezed on top hit it out of the park!! Definitely worth a visit and can't wait to check out breakfast
Like a step back in time! Loved everything about our meal at The Alphorn. We all had the Schnitzel (Pork & Chicken) and tried all of the sides. Great service and delicious food. Will definitely be back.
Amazing place to visit! Cozy atmosphere combining European vibe of Alps with Canadian nature spirit. Food is so great! Schnitzel is the best I ever had, it's serious competitor for European one I used to enjoy in Austria and Germany. We also loved onion soup. It's especially great to start with in a cold day. Strongly recommend to everyone!
It s been better in past years, very good quality but value is questionable. For the signature snitzel to not taste dry you need to upgrade to a gravy for$4.50 so if you don t your meal will be just ok. Also Mashed potatoes tasted instant which is not good for a $23 -$31 entre. When they had the snitzel special with gravy for $23 we got great value for family of 4 and all sides tasted home made.
An amazing place, great atmosphere! When you are looking for a local experience make sure you order JOK shnizle (not on the menu). Another local secret of you are reserved table after 8 make sure you request Wandas section!!
Great food. Had the cheese fondue appetizer. So delicious. Beef stroganoff for main was equally good. Friendly courteous staff made dining a pleasure. Will be back.
Super cute inside with a whole bunch of skiing memorabilia. Amazing staff and food the French fries are delicious! They also have a 52 beer passport to drink around the world and if you finish it you get an alphorn t-shirt!
The whiff of harsh cleaning chemicals was thrown into our faces as we walked into the restaurant very off putting. The woman who seated us, had her mouth stuffed with food, and was covering her mouth as she asked how many were in our party, also her hands were dripping wet as she gave us our menus .very off putting. I ordered the cheese fondue 4/10 stale bread. Food needs some loving
This place continues to be a must go every single time we visit. We will often go for brunch specifically for the smoked meat eggs Benedict, its so good! You just cant go wrong with very well executed schnitzel and a cold beer
Schnitzel was good and crispy, with lemon it is very good. I wish the vegetables and sides were better though, they were boiled carrots, green beans, and the potato rosti could have been seasoned. Little pricy but atmosphere was nice
Why is this not a Michelin rated place? The best place Ive ever been!!! The food, Im ordering everything twice!!!!
If you want to eat a good fondue in the Blue Mountains/Collingwood corners, head to the Alphorn Restaurant. The setting is typical Swiss German, music the same. and its choice of dishes as well. Excellent fondue, we went back the next day to eat one again and taste their hunter fondue bourguignonne.
Get the schnitzel!
Definitely a kitch bomb of skiing and Swiss -ness. Also really liked the beef stroganoff and spatzle. Rosti potato was the best ever! Vegetarian options: Eggplant schnitzel was on offer, and a few other assorted options.
Meat was from microwave, bread one week old. Not the same as 5 years ago :(
Best Snitzel I have ever had from a choice of chicken or pork. 1st time there with friends on a golf trip which they make it a tradition every year to eat at The Alphorn
So European-style cooking still needs to be learned. The schnitzel was bland and only tasted like breading...
Delicious food. Snitzel, spatzel, top sirloin all wonderfull. We shard the Hunters platter, and it amazing. Service is excellent. Polka music set the atmosphere for Octoberfest. Highly recommend. Food
One of the worst meals I ve ever had. My schnitzel was dry and overcooked in the deep fryer. Taste was very bland. The decor was nice like a European ski chalet but this is a hard pass. So many better choices in the area.
I attended the Octoberfest celebration and while the atmosphere was fantastic and the band was great, a few cons were the prices ($$$) as well as the food was not that great.
Love this place! Great service, cool bar tricks and free lemons! Plus the best schnitzel in Canada.
A favourite restaurant for over 30 years!!
The Fondue!!! Our server took excellent care of us & made sure our 8 year Grand-Daughter was entertained. Easy parking, good wine & a fun time.
This is Gem. Must visit.
Good value for the breakfast.
Awesome tasting breakfast and the interior decor was very unique.
Don t use margarine in your baking. I can taste it.
pretty nice moment, fondue was so good and perfect service !!!
Second time at this restaurant and unfortunately it has gone downhill quickly. The booths, floor and tables are visibly dirty. Old food bits all over the seats and floor. There are so many flies constantly landing on our food and table we couldn t eat in peace. I can t imagine how unsanitary the kitchen must be. Quality of the food is mediocre at best. Beef stroganoff had hard inedible hard bits from cheap cuts of meat. The bread in the cheese fondue was stale and hard. Every dish we got was gross or just meh. Would not recommend this restaurant. Super gross.
Had the pork schnitzel and beef stroginoff. Both were not good. Schnitzel was so dried out, whole meal was cold, veggies soggy (frozen?) Pasta side dish shells had no sauce. Paid 4.95 for a few ounces of bad mushroom sauce for schnitzel (should come with sauce free). Spouse likes almost anything, and said Stroginoff was too sweet and not tasty. Walls are dirty, food stains, rug (why rug in restaurant?) gross, ripped, rippled tripping hazard. Got seated sort of fast, but rest of service slow and only 3 other tables there. But servers were very pleasant. Dont usually post bad reviews, but it was just too bad.
Good hospitality and went with a friend who loves the place.
We were biking the Georgian Trail and stopped here for lunch on Canada Day. All 4 of us enjoyed our meal here. It was neat seeing Spatzle, Swiss Rosti as side options. I had schnitzel. It was perfect. Unfortunately we didnt have room for dessert. Another table were enjoying fondue. It smelled delicious.
Loved the food here, could have picked anything off the menu and been happy with it.
Awesome schnitzel! Always eating here when in the area.
Really loved this place. The environment is super traditional and quirky, in a great way. Service was prompt. The Raclette cheese appetizer is fantastic, as is the fresh home made bread. There is an excellent beer selection, and even some very unique cocktails. For me, the pork schnitzel was a bit too thin and dry, I prefer it to have some tenderness. The hunter sauce with it was very good though. Spatzle was good though plain, I would get the rosti next time. Portions very generous and a good value. Black Forest cake is incredibly moist and very tasty, though I was disappointed it had no kirsch cherry filling. If I lived closer, Id even go back just for an app and a beer, the bar is really nice. Overall a great visit.
We always go for the cheese fondue. It is always so delicious and not many places offer this. 5* for the fondue. It is high priced for cheese and bread but its a good treat. Although I like they have revamped the menu the last 3 times we have been there the schnitzel has really gone down hill. Really dry and overcooked. Its so thin that you barely get any meat. The service is always friendly but its disappointing to steer clear of ordering schnitzel at a Swiss restaurant
Very confused by all the positive reviews as the food here is awful. We ordered the cheese fondue, escargot, pork, chicken and eggplant schnitzel. The fondue was the only good dish. The escargot were absolutely tasteless. The eggplant schnitzel was so thin you couldnt taste eggplant. The chicken and pork schnitzel was dry and again had no flavour. The whiskey mushroom sauce is definitely canned mushroom soup. The spatzle was super oily and the vegetables were meh. I wouldnt recommend anyone eat here because this restaurant has never heard of seasoning. The atmosphere was great however.
2023 Had a great Canada Day breakfast at the Alphorn in Collingwood. Never been there before but the bar looks like a great place for Apres Ski. Will check it out this winter. Its conveniently across the street from Squire Johns June 2024 Went for brunch. Had Belgian waffle and Smoked Meat Benedict with coffee .$54 for two with tax and gratuity
JP would not be impressed!! As locals we have been dining at the Alphorn for over 40 years-2 years ago for Mothers Day, we had a very good brunch experience- this year on Fathers Day we decided to do the same-our party was disappointed with the entire experience! We were seated on the patio by a manager wearing a dew rag on his head, we ordered drinks which he managed to spill all over me and the balance of the table. When our brunch arrived, we were to say the least underwhelmed by its presentation and portion size. The ridiculously small portion of included rosti potatoes were hidden under the eggs,, toast was just slightly warmed wonder bread, no option any longer for a multi grain type, the saving component was the knackwurst. Mgmt did comp my meal, which can be argued was warranted, but did not compensate for the food that was sadly lacking. We feel very strongly that new ownership has grossly cheaped down this iconic eatery. We question whether we will return! Further, we had a discussion with local friends that were at the Alphorn the same wknd for supper, their experience was described to us as, well below previous standards of expected portion size, inclusions per order & quality of food. We sincerely hope the current ownership will react positively to this constructive review-in reading other reviews it seems apparent that other diners share this reviews sentiment. Ask D Barry M about Alphorn Swiss Restaurant https://www.tripadvisor.ca/ShowUserReviews-g181754-d766301-r955646916-Alphorn_Swiss_Restaurant-Collingwood_Ontario.html#
Had the Schnitzel Sandwich for lunch. I highly recommend it, it was AWESOME.
Went to celebrate my husbands birthday. Food was fantastic, atmosphere was warm and welcoming! There were 2 other birthdays that night and they played a Happy Birthday song that everyone sang along to.... all 3 times! Best Swiss onion soup Ive ever had!
Definitely DO NOT go without calling ahead. Our family has frequented the Alphorn for honestly more than 35 years, and being on a first name basis with many of the older staff. The legendary schnitzel still remains mostly the same, but sadly, something has been lost in the change of ownership over the years.
Love this place and the beer passport! So cool.
Fantastic!
Everything about Alphorn was lovely, except that some of the grilled pieces on our platter were a bit cold. However, we enjoyed our overall experience and will definitely be back!
We just had an amazing dinner for two. We shared the fondu (delicious) and enjoyed a wine and Paulaner. Service was friendly, we did not have to wait for service and we were not rushed at all. It was a relaxing, enjoyable meal. We will 100% return here next time we are in the area.
Sarah is the best server ever!!!
The absolute best restaurant to visit while in Collingwood. Specifically Sarah, she was an absolute doll. Made us feel super welcome and even put some rounds of shots on the house. They also have two bells highly recommended ringing those bad boys. It will get the whole place bumping. Some dude in the back , maybe the chef was playing an awesome track. He even came out and sang with us. P.S. get the grilled cheese and don t ask questions. Just let your tastes buds enjoy an overwhelming amount of pleasure. P.P.S They also have this crazy horn thing. Some ancient peoples probably used it as a war call. They let me try it but it didn t make a sound. Could be my cardio ain t what it once was. But cool of the staff to let me give it a go.
Nice place for a family dinner. Will be gone soon to development.
THE place to be when in Collingwood. Like Switzerland apres! Cant go wrong here!
Fun place, great service, terrible food
Had dinner here a number of times...very good...breakfast today was a joke...asked if we wanted 3 times before we actually got it..food was ok but service was terrible...another couple beside us actually left, we should have done the same thing.
This rating is for takeout. Have the waitress a 18%tip for takeout. Waited and waited. Finally found it at the bar cold. Ask for a reheat nothing but bad attitude after that.
A hidden gem for this area. Fantastic atmosphere and great service. Food portions were huge and the prices were reasonable. If its your birthday, I highly recommend you go there. Ring the bell for shots or ring a large bell to buy shots for the whole restaurant. Very kid friendly. I highly recommend making reservations.
Food sucked. They told us we only had one hour to eat dry food fish wasn t fresh. Not a good place to eat. Better off in town prices aren t right either.
Had such a great meal. The waiter was so accommodating and friendly. I ve been here a few times since my first time and the lady with the short blonde/gray hair could use an attitude adjustment. Food : 5/5
This place unites the cuisine of the alpine countries Germany , Austria and Switzerland. Being German I was really impressed how good it was and close to the original cuisine. I had the Farmer s Platter with Brat- and Knackwurst and mashed potatoes plus vegetables. Both Wursts were very good and I loved the mashed potatoes - and the green beans were absolutely fantastic. My husband had the meatloaf with the Hunter Sauce, which was delicious. Also the service was very good, friendly and quick. We immediately got the menu and water and also food was ready quite fast. I liked it there and it was a welcomed change to the common food of burgers and fries. So definitely recommend!
Some of the best service I ve had in a long time! Excellent food and welcoming atmosphere.
Had lunch there today Jan 27 2024 The meal was pretty much perfect . Pork schnitzel tasted delicious and the vegetables were perfect. Staff very friendly and well informed of their menu. The place could use a good updating starting with the carpet . Food
Are waiter would forget things we asked for and we would have to remind them to get us a glass of water and when my kid found the hidden word in the word search to win the free ice cream he asked and for twenty minutes nothing happened and when we asked the waiter she just said no and my son was really upset I really don t recommend this place and you should never go!
Lots of fun!
would visit again!
My experience at The Alphorn Restaurant was incredibly disappointing. Despite the place not being packed, my party and I waited for 30 minutes to be seated, all while being completely ignored by the staff. Not only did the staff fail to acknowledge our presence, but they also made no effort to apologize for the delay or offer any explanation. It was evident that our presence was of no concern to them. After waiting in vain for far too long, we made the decision to leave along with two other families who had also been neglected. The lack of customer service and basic courtesy left a sour taste in our mouths, and we had no desire to spend our time and money in such an unwelcoming environment. I would strongly advise against dining at The Alphorn Restaurant if you value prompt service and basic customer courtesy. Our experience was nothing short of unacceptable, and its clear that the staff need to prioritize their customers needs and satisfaction.
Nice place with good food
Love this spot. Much more cost-effective than eating in the village. Large portion sizes. The schnitzel sandwich was really good. Also...stiegl on tap ;)
The food is good but what sets this place apart is the atmosphere and service. Everyone who works here is lovely and all smiles. The decor is really fun and kitschy. The best part is the cute birthday song that has everyone in the restaurant dancing and clapping. We ordered the chicken schnitzel and the sausage plate and both were great. Thanks for a lovely evening
Great spot! Amazing fondue and schnitzel! Love the kitschy decor and vibe. Fun for a birthday as they come out singing and the whole restaurant claps along.
The good was good but we shared the food and didn t know they charged us for that. Each dish $9. The serving lady could mention it!
A local institution
My recent brunch experience at this establishment left much to be desired. Despite arriving on time, we were left waiting in the entrance for 15 minutes without anyone acknowledging us. It took an inside request for a bill before a server finally noticed us. The food quantity was generous, but unfortunately, the taste fell short of expectations. The only highlights were the sausage and bacon. Other dishes were disappointingly dry, and while warm, they lacked the hotness one expects when served. Overall, the service and food quality were subpar, making it a less-than-pleasant brunch outing.
There is a smell of rotten meat + disinfectant in the store
Super little place to visit. Nice beer, good people and decent food. Kid-friendliness: Super good with kids. Food : 4/5 |
We visited as a family of six for breakfast. The place had a nice atmosphere, but the service was terrible and very slow. The food was okay. However, we were greeted by a lady at the front in a very negative manner, which seemed to indicate she was displeased with our presence in the restaurant. This level of customer service is not suitable for an area frequented by tourists.
We were 4 adults and 3 kids. Waited 25 minutes to order. Not even a glass of water was served while waiting.
Do not go there. This is coming from a local.
Amazing interior and great European style food. Must visit if near blue mountain
A small and cozy Swiss restaurant located on the side of the road near the Blue Mountains. Ive never been to a genuine Swiss diner, but this one seems quite authentic, both in terms of interior design and its menu. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and the items on the menu looked quite Swiss. I tried The Classic and The Light Breakfast, both of which included eggs, toasts, Rösti, and a choice of bacon or Swiss sausage. The Rösti was similar to a hash brown but cooked in a flat way. The service was okay. The staff forgot my hot water and grapefruit juice, but they were able to make up for it with reminders. Overall, it was a good dining experience. Food (quality, creativity, consistency) - 3.5/5 Drinks (quality, variety) - 3.5/5 Ambience (interior design, cleanliness) - 4/5 Service (courtesy, knowledge, timeliness) - 3/5 Value (quality vs. price) - 4/5 OVERALL - 3.6
Nice and welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff, great, delicious food and fast service. European style foods. A great spot for lunch or dinner. Can be a little crowded on weekends nights. Would recommend.
Like walking into a ski party from the 80s. Arrived for a 6:30 reservation and the place was hopping! A little loud but prompt service and food arrived very quickly. Chicken schnitzel was good but a bit dry. Cheese fondue was yummy! Will definitely be back. If not for the food but just the super fun atmosphere! Food
My first experience at the Alphorn was in the mid-1980s. While the atmosphere is great obviously I must say that the food has consistently gone downhill in the past 20 years or so. I had the chicken schnitzel this last time which was perhaps a step above shake and bake. Fun place but they really need a makeover as far as the core food service goes. We were a party of 6 or so and everyone agreed. I think the many positive reviews here and goodwill of the restaurant are based on sentiment (and the bar) which does nothing to constructively improve things.
We arrived as a group of 8 and were promptly seated at their large round booth. Right away you get the feel of small town vibes with very authentic interior decor that just teleports you to the Alps! All of the food was amazing, reasonably priced and arrived quickly even though they had a hiccup in their kitchen with the plumbing. Everything tasted fresh and the restaurant was not too busy compared to the places in the village. We would return here again if we are ever in the area. First choice based on just the food or friendly service alone.
Very good place with delicious cousin and affordable prices. I give my five stars and promises come again.
We booked a reservation and was on time. They made us wait an extra 25 minutes before we could sit down. It smelt dirty inside the place. There was no signs locating the washroom. And everyone was rude. They didn t provided an alcohol menu. I ordered a ceaser salad and it barely tasted edible. For the price of these items they were certainly not up to standards. There were many other issues with the food and main courses aswell. I hope this isn t an occurring issue. This was my first time and my last time Thank alphorn.
Yum
Acres ski hotspot ...felt like Id been transported to the Alps for a lovely dinner :)
I ordered the cabbage rolls and they were terrible. The lentils were almost raw, in the filling. Will go back and have the schnitzel one day.
Ive been there with my friends and my wife for my birthday and had a really nice time! Great staff, good food and good atmosphere
Super cute restaurant. Cheese Fondue is a must - Pork schnitzel is great, meat fondue was good too .funnel cake is fun but just ok. They have a fun birthday song they sing. You can ring bells to buy shots for everyone or just your table. Great atmosphere and nice servers. I d definitely go back.
Such a great restaurant! A must when in the area. My husband and I have actually driven on multiple occasions over an hour and a half each way just to dine there!
Staff was incredible.
Fun place but our server had a bad attitude. Avoid the pork schnitzel and get the chicken. The pork is really dry surprisingly and has been the last 2 visits.
Thing
Heard great things about this place so disappointed, we were waiting for the hostess and she never showed up, multiple waitresses saw us and we were ignored, I asked for someone in the bar to help us and he never came back. SO RUDE!
Angrily disappointed! The Alphorn use to have the best Schnitzel around. I havent been there in years, but last nights Schnitzel was beyond terrible... it must have been cooked for lunch service, and reheated for my dinner. So terribly disappointed, I will never go again!!!
Kid-friendliness: They have a great kids menu and service was accommodating to groups with kids. Food
Food: abysmal Service: subpar Atmosphere: could be cute but unfortunately the food and service really ruined the experience. Took a few minutes for us to get seated and even longer for a server to make eye contact, let alone take our order. The schnitzel was dry, cripsy and indigestible. If only we had water to wash it down. Frankly Im shocked by all the positive reviews.
Must eat here!! We came after skiing and loved the food, service, beer and its decor. Felt like going to my friends Austrian moms house for dinner. We have to come more often:)
Love the experience at the Alporn simply for how rarely I eat fondue. The beef and cheese fondues are both delicious. The Raclette is also delicious.
Service is sooooo bad. I felt like I was inconveniencing the servers by being there. Won t be coming back again. When we finally got a table the food took so long. It s always busy because it s great food so organize your staff accordingly.
Great schnitzel!
Service is courteous, helpful, and efficient. Menu has for all tastes, good beer selection. Definitely I will be back
4 stars, food was good for a tourist attraction. One staff was joking rude, Im not sure if shes trying to put on a character or downright rude. Shed be a good candidate to work at Karens restaurant (the one restaurant which youre there for the rude service). The food was quick and big portion. Delicious schnizels, I ordered hunter for 2. Dont accidentally give tips twice because its 18% for party of 6 or more and the machine will still ask you to pay once more.
This is the spot skiers visit after a successful time on the slopes. Its decor is a European Ski Lodge circa the 60s, 70s, and 80s. The eclectic mix of hunting, and skiing, with Swiss flags, balconies, Swatch watches, and a large alphorn bell perched in the middle of the dining room all lends to the authenticity of this restaurant. There is also a bar and the restaurant has quite the wine list. The food was a 3 out of 5 for me, and tasty. I especially loved the pretzels. Fondue your way through the menu as you dine on onion soup, beef Stroganoff, schnitzel, and many other dishes. There was a lag when it came to ordering out entrée but the waitress made up for that lag with her awesome spirit, personality, and humour. When next youre in the Blue Mountains stop in at the Alphorn, if only just to enjoy the funky decor!
Fantastic dinner with friends
We were a party of 7 adults. Wonderful service and ambiance. Chef please take note: The schnitzels were dried out and didn t taste like chicken or pork. Tasted as if they d been prepared several weeks ago then frozen and then reheated for our dinner. Two of the party had the cheese fondue. Again it was a real disappointment. Cheese fondue is supposed to be a blend of cheese and wine, this fondue tasted like a blend of cheese and broth. You have such a wonderful place please please please reconsider your recipes and prep.
Service and atmosphere was amazing. The food on the other hand was not great at all. The schnitzel was dry and overcooked. The breading/coating tasted almost burnt as if it was fried in stale oil. Food : 2/5
We come for the ambiance and the vibe. Food is subpar but it s definitely a place we enjoy going. They have a famous happy birthday they sing. Fun for the whole family. Good for groups.
Signature Schnitzel (pork) was overcooked, dry, lacking taste. Accompanying spatzle was dry and crusty edges - probably sitting in a warmer for too long. Unfortunately, decent service and good selection of beers doesnt make up for the food.
Our first time at Alphorn. We booked a table ahead of time for our trip to ue Mountain. We are glad we did! The food and service were excellent!! Swiss/German/Swedish cuisine as per my knowledge. The portions are big. You will not be leaving the restaurant hungry for sure. I recommend to book a table ahead. The place is busy. Absolutely loved the interior design! You can admire every single piece of memorabilia on the walls while waiting for your food.
We had a very good evening, celebrated a birthday at all the tables, music, lively conversation, the whole family gathered.
I have been coming here for years. It s all about the schnitzel. I prefer the chicken over the pork because i find it tender. ORDER the alphorn cut!!! It basically means you get an extra piece of schnitzel for $6 versus just getting the regular. Take an entire piece home in a doggy bag and boom, you ve got yourself a midnight snack or schnitzel for breakfast!
There is a reason why this place is always busy! Appetizer was excellent, schnitzel was excellent, beer was wonderful and desert was brilliant. Thank you!
Great restaurant and bar- still kept the old collingwood charm but added new systems and measures like reservations that make it feel more current !
Fondue... just do it! Order some great wine and treat yourself to a fun and casual fondue experience. Super cool.
Ive always loved this place and now they do breakfast? And a great one with real sausage and amazing marble rye bread. Now the top breakfast in town (well well see when Red Hen opens back up)
We have been to The Alphorn many times and appreciate the unique restaurant. We arrived and our orders taken promptly. However, the Rosti potatoes and Schnitzel were hard and very over cooked. The servers, the beer and the company were excellent. Next time I go I will look for other options on the menu.
This one is a nice restaurant and bar in this area. Nicely decorated with lots of details. Service is kind of slow. However servers are friendly. Food is good and the portion is big. Clean washrooms. Lots of parking space outside. A good stop before or after visiting blue mountain.
Food is fabulous, staff is even more fabulous and the place!! Its even more fabulous.
We went for breakfast. The prices are much better than in town and the food is very good. The schnitzel was dry and overcooked. It would be better with gravy or fried onions. The place is dated and tired looking.
Delicious pork schnitzel. Veggies perfectly done. Great service. Only drawback was soft, not crispy strudel. Will definitely go back. Appreciated easy wheelchair access! Dietary restrictions: Aware of soy intolerance issues!! Parking: Lots Wheelchair accessibility: Straight in on ramp
Nice and cozy place, typically alpine. Good food.
Our first visit here and can t wait to return! The interior is homey and filled with Austrian, Swiss, and German memorabilia - a lot of fun to walk around the restaurant and take a look at. We had the famous chicken schnitzel with spätzle and the mushroom cream sauce on the side (so, so good), and the farmers platter with bratwurst (delicious) and knackwurst (tasty but not as good as the bratwurst). The portions are very generous.
Fantastic food, quantities and a decent price! Service was a little slow but then again it was Mothers Day so that is somewhat understandable.
Great food and service. If its your bday, youre in for a treat!
Best schnitzel ever
If you are in the Craigleth area and love Schnitzel this is the place. Great food and even more than Schnitzel. But dont forget amazing Schnitzel.
Great Lunch. Food was quick to the table and hot! Best schnitzel ever! Excellent service.
This is a classic. We went in June which is not really fair as this is a classic Apres Ski location. Food would not win a Michelin star but it is classic. I had meatloaf and rosti and my wife the snitzel. The portions were generous. Service was friendly and timely. Atmosphere is classic and nothing more should expected.
Delicious! Fantastic service Parking: Yay Food : 5/5 |
We had dinner at this restaurant yesterday evening and the schnitzel did not taste authentic. The meat was way too moist and the breading was not close to being crispy. The breading was falling apart as you would be cutting. Vegetables tasted like they came out of a freezer. The free bread they gave with butter tasted better then the $23 schnitzel. We wont be coming back.
Very unique atmosphere and the food was made to order! As Home Cooked as it gets! Will definitely be back!
Great place to dine and great service.
The food was delicious! The environment is full of mixed decor from ages ago which makes for great conversation starters.
We were here in the winter, on a freezing cold day, but as soon as we entered the restaurant, we found ourselves in a super warm, welcoming, and homey environment. The decor is unique and fun to admire, service is kind and quick, the ambiance is perfect and makes the experience fun for all guests, and the food is really tasty. Schnitzels? Yes please!
I normally love and enjoy this place. Saly tonight the a schnitzel waa so overcooked we were very disappointed. It was very dry. The restaurant was quite busy but the staff were good.
Great place. Cheese fondue is excellent. Schnitzel is yummy and the service is great.
The schnitzel and spaetzle were incredibly dry and looked like it was deep fried in very very old oil. Neither should have been deep fried to begin with. My (German) partner took two bites and refused to eat any further. He was personality offended by how poorly this restaurant attempted to prepare Swiss-German food. Maybe it was an off day but we will not be returning and can not recommend this place.
Food was decent. Waitress was great and very chatty and funny.
My family was swiss and its nice to visit these places. The food was really good and it was an amazing deal for a specialty restaurant . The inside is all decorated up but I like the table layout and wood everywhere. Fun place to take your family or a larger group to enjoy a fondue. We drive through here all the time and I have meant to stop in multiple times I will definitely be back .
Delicious food and friendly staff! We ordered cheese fondue , chicken Ticino with spatzles and pancakes soup with herbs. Food
Super friendly service. Ordered the platter, cold, dry, bland flavorless. Stroganoff was delicious, wish I had ordered it. Fladelsuppe needs some pep as well. Pretzels and dip were delicious. Spaetzle were dry as well. Hunter sauce tasted ok, but did not redeem anything we used it on. Those boiled potatoes are awful. Wheelchair accessibility: Ok for accessibility, however theres no door opener and the ramp is steep, so a wheelchair user can not enter the facility on their own.
Ive been driving past here for the better part of two years and just never had a chance to stop in. My wife and I came in for lunch and discovered how great this place is. I had their schnitzel and must say, its leagues better than the stuff I grew up with. It was lovely and the atmosphere is very much a 70s chalet vibe. Will definitely return.
Great place and atmosphere for breakfast. Will definitely go again the next time we visit.
The Alphorn better be around for forever because it is the best restaurant in town! Delicious food, kind and caring staff, and a unique interior. 10/10 always :)
Been going for years. Awesome staff and atmosphere and greate food
Meh. So Ive wanted to try this place for some time as Id pass by it quite a few times over the winter when skiing up at Blue Mountain. The menu is limited in its offerings in a good way - they can do the few items well. Unfortunately the chicken and pork schnitzel were very bland and the dish did not have any sauce or condiment to complement. My two dinner companions agreed the pork was better than the chicken. Likewise the Austrian spaetzle was very bland. The vegetarian cabbage rolls were apparently good though needed some hot sauce or something to liven them up a bit. I think I found the boiled potatoes THE best item in our dishes; they were plain but had a nice glutenous texture and flavour. Other times I have had schnitzel (Schnitzel Haus, Schnitzel Queen, Denningers) has been on a bun where you can add toppings such as sauerkraut and more to add some flavour and zing. Staff are very friendly but its the atmosphere that makes the place. Mounted animal heads, skiis, Swiss flag. Place would be super cozy in winter. Vegetarian options: Two options only - eggplant schnitzel and cabbage rolls. Kid-friendliness: Kids can eat there. There were many there.
Super cute restaurant. Server was great and friendly. The food was delicious and portion size was good. The schnitzel is thin and crispy. Mashed potato had lots of flavours and the spatzle had a bit of crisp to it. They also gave rye bread to start, which was delicious too. They have a great selection of European beers.
Good food, BF Cake was divine, overall great experience.
Potatoes were tasteless. Pork was tender but coating on pork was overcooked and almost impossible to cut through. Havent been there since pre COVID-19 Quality has definitely suffered. Portion sizes are great.
First visit. Had a great lunch. Loved the options and chose a bratwurst on a pretzel bun. Delicious!
Stopped here while visiting blue mountain. Perfect portion sizes, cool atmosphere and food was excellent
Had breakfast here, it was good and prices were good
I didnt really like what I ordered and the service was a little slow but also very sweet Id go again but maybe ordering something different next time!
Amazing food! Friendly staffs. Will come back :)
We stayed in Blue for an early fall getaway and found this gem after a Google search. Tis the season for schnitzel, so we decided to give it a try. The restaurant is festive, kitschy and cozy and we had the warmest welcome from our server Jordan who offered us amazing service the entire meal. The warm brown bread and butter was a homey and tasty start to our meal of Alphorn salad with flavourful Swiss dressing, cheesy escargot and schnitzel with veggies (fresh carrots and beans) and spätzle. We also ordered a side of garlic mashed potatoes and didn t regret it. They were creamy, garlicky and perfectly seasoned. The chicken schnitzel was nice and crispy and the portions were very generous. My partner loved the pork schnitzel and said it was one of the best he s had in a long time. The spätzle was buttery, crispy and a treat to have and we didn t have to add salt to anything. They didn t skimp on lemons, which was nice. They also have a locally made apple strudel on the menu that we should have ordered, but we were too full, and already had a good amount of leftovers to take away. Apparently their breakfast is also a hit. The staff were a delight and we chatted with a few other lovely servers as we were leaving who raved about the breakfast items. We will definitely put this charming find on the list next time we re back in Blue! Thanks for a delicious and fun dinner experience to the folks at The Alphorn.
The fondue s so bland. It tasted and resembled the meal you d see someone in a post-apocalypse movie scavenge together simply because they had nothing good.
Phenomenal place. This has made me regret all the times that I have used a 5 star review, this place deserves a much higher mantle. The approach is a family run mom n pop restaurant, further secured by a sign reading Open at 7 am----Cheryl will be living with in-laws on Oct 9....I do not know Cheryl, but after my experience at the restaurant, I almost feel sad. The food was astounding; 3 authentic Swiss dishes that were all equally delicious and presented as such. The level of handmade-homemade ingredients carefully and beautifully pieced together was pleasantly shocking. Absolutely the best fries that I have ever had, ever! A must-try place! Parking: Massive parking lot
Found this place by accident when i was up that way picking up a motorcycle. What a gem! Food was delicious and authentic, the kitschy 70 s/80 s swiss atmosphere was a delight and the staff were perfect. 10/10 will def stop in here every time i am in collingwood!
Made my first visit since the 80s last night! The kitschy decor has a distinctly 80s mountain vibe and I mean that in a good way. The seating and tables look a bit dated, but really, who cares? You are visiting to get a taste of Swiss/Austrian ski country. Ownership has changed recently and I suspect that the food has suffered over the years since the previous owner took over from the original owner. We enjoyed the meal overall, but the schnitzel was not as moist or tender as it should be. A shame. The hot oil fondue is fantastic - exactly what my Mom used to make in the 70s and 80s. That alone was worth the visit. Special should out to our waiter Jordan. He was attentive and thoughtful and was happy to put up with some stories from visiting food industry folks! We will visit again just to be served by Jordan!
Had the schnitzel dinner with their H gravey. So filling and delicious. We had the BlackForest cake for . Took home some for my meal next day. Filling Food
Such a cozy spot to have a hearty dinner! The food was incredible and the beer list was outstanding :) Hope to return soon! Recommended dishes
Fun place, good food
Good food
Looks like we found our new go to German restaurant. Schnitzel was excellent. Was happy to find Steigl on draft. Service was good love the atmosphere!
Just like home!
Large breakfast platter for 2 about $34. Can feed a family. Eggs any way you like it. Generous with the meat and a good way to sample one of their sausages and schnitzel. The only disappointment were the waffles. Im not sure if they made it. Decor is nice with different Swiss, ski, chalet theme. Came on a good day when it wasnt busy. Usually is from morning till close when I drive by the place. It is in a tourist area. Conveniently off the 26. Will return to try dinner.
Very nice unique place for an evening. Food was as advertised. I would have opted for the schnitzel next time. Did the beef fondue thing and it was enjoyable but not my preferred meal. Service really struggled but it seemed our waiter was new and didn t have an opportunity to learn the menu yet. I m sure after a week or so, it would have been a bit of a different service experience. All in all, the right choice for a unique experience out!
Been coming to The Alphorn for years (apres ski Shirley Temples when we were kids). As my brother in law puts it, 5 stars all around! . Such a fun place to have dinner, friends, family. The food is DELICIOUS (my god the cheese fondue is heaven).
If you love cheese, go here, just go. The Raclette and Fondue were delicious. The only negative was the portion size of the apple strudel. For the cost, it should be much bigger.
I had great experience, great food for breakfast
Awesome spot for breakfast. Hadan authentic German / Austrian feel. Got the breakfast for two, came with a lot of yummy food, waffles, eggs, bacon , schnitzel sausage and potatoes. Friendly service, great way to start your day.
Very good food and the services is excellent
Stopped in today for a late lunch. First time. Nice atmosphere. Great service. Great food.
Fun little restaurant with a warm rustic feel. Great schnitzel sandwhich. Be sure to ring the bell for some delicious apples schnapps shooters. Fun place.
Fantastic food, service and vibe. Our go to spot
We had the best server in our life here, JORDAN!!! Of course, the food was good. The vibe was amazingly fitting to the snowboarding trip.
Website and Google both shows open now, and no one answer the phone call, but when we drive 50km to here for diner , it is closed.
The place is so interesting
10/10 every time we go. Amazing food, welcoming service that makes you feel like youre home and very clean. I have had a good portion of their menu and when I tell you everything is spectacular....I mean EVERYTHING. I make special trips to collingwood just for this place. Dont miss it.
Fantastic evening. The restaurant was full with a super atmosphere. The food was delicious and the service attentive and fun. A great evening - we especially loved the birthday song.
Perfect
