Quay is one of the country’s most celebrated restaurants, awarded Three Hats for 21 consecutive years. Located in the dress circle of Sydney Harbour, Quay is an organic space reflective of Executive Chef Peter Gilmore’s nature-inspired cuisine, where the menu is a progression of rare and beautiful ingredients, and texture, flavour, and harmony is paramount.
Quay continues to live up to its name and reputation. Great atmosphere, service and importantly, exquisite dishes. We had Quays 8 course degustation - with the perfect portion control to get us full by the end but not over-stuffed. Scallops and pig jowl were top of our rankings followed by the most tender lean deer we've ever had. Was definitely a good decision to leave the pig jowl on the menu in the revamp. The signature coral was a long await dessert after the meal, but the honey bee ice cream was what I really wanted more of. Our only recommendation would be to reduce the saltiness of the mud crab dumplings and reduce it's quantity as it did feel too dense. Thank you to the kind staff (and Para for the detailed descriptions)
A Quay-linary masterpiece? Had dinner celebrating our 10th anniversary and it was an amazing experience. We were seated right up against the window overlooking the iconic Opera house and were greeted with Champagne. We ended up choosing the 8 course without any wine or drink pairings. I highly recommend this course as the deer and dessert is just a beautiful combination of flavours that cannot be missed. The servers were very knowledgable, friendly and explained every dish with patience and expertise. Care and attention was taken at every step. The cocktails were very well made and well presented, especially the Quay-gerita. Overall, this was very memorable which everyone must experience at least once. Almost.
Celebrating the anniversary, but end up cruises block the view from Opera. The food presentation is pretty and taste is nice, eating and learning the knowledge of the each dish. At the end of leaving, waiter provides us a menu with two block of chocolate as gifts.
Without equal - every single interaction between us and Quay’s incredible staff was faultless. I arranged a special surprise for my partner at our anniversary dinner and it was handled beautifully. The food, which we’d been looking forward to for some time, was delicate and delicious. Sometimes, it can be disappointing to experience a highly reputed restaurant but we are happy to report that this could not have been better. If you are thinking of booking, do it now. You will not regret it.
What a magical experience. Best birthday present ever! My hubby took me to Sydney so I could eat at Peter Gilmore's restaurant and it didn't disappoint. The food was beautiful, looked like art, and tasted amazing. The staff were so lovely, everyone wished me happy birthday. It was so special. We were one of the last to leave. Treated to extra wines and courses. It was a delightful experience. Thanks
There's a reason Quay is as celebrated as it is. From the moment we arrived the service and friendliness of the staff was impeccable and quite unexpected, everyone we walked past greeted us in a warm and friendly manner. We were lucky enough to get a table with fantastic views and the ambience of the restaurant was fantastic, not the mention great lighting on the table. We chose the 8 course degustation. The food came wine came quickly, but it was never rushed and the staff adapted to your pace. With each serving the you could really tell the staff knew the menu extensively. Not only did they explain each dish, but confidently answered any questions you had on a dish. The food in this particular menu we had was more subtle in flavour, at the start, building up to more punchy flavours in the final two dishes. Texture was very much at the forefront of each dish to ensure every dish was a new experience. We were even given two extra off menu courses at no extra charge which was unexpected but welcomed. The portion size was spot on. Even with 10 courses in total, you were too full, you weren't hungry, but you definitely weren't not stuffed. All in all, Quay was a wonderful experience, the food was very good, the service was amazing, the staff made you feel special and you leave wanting to come back again and again.
Honestly, you can't not give Quay 5 stars! Food, delectable. Wine, stunning. View, incredible. Having come all the way from Perth, we had to do the 8 course set menu and sommelier wine pairing. Each course and pairing was a journey. The food brilliantly described and wine information in abundant. We greatly appreciate the service we were given, the wait staff were on point!
Tough one to write this one. Amazing technical food where every dish feels simple but exquisite. The view, the food and the service - it’s an experience. Every dish was amazing and definitely five star. Coral dessert was slightly disappointing- was expecting I guess something to be amazed by but a bit of a pass though a very high pass! Warm crumpet, amuse buche, choc mousse ..too many amazing surprises to make it worth an experience for sure. Technically amazing but if I was only reviewing based on my personal eating experience and expectations- it’s a high four for me.
It s rare that a restaurant lives up to the hype. Quay surpassed it. Incredible food. Wine pairings that worked magic. Stunning views. And warm, attentive, and fun service. Worth every cent and more. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
I dined at Quay on a trip to Sydney from the US. I chose Quay as my premier dining experience while in Sydney and was left disappointed. The standard for high dining experiences is astronomical, and you should be left with that wow factor. I left with a sense of wanting. I indulged in the eight course tasting menu with the Quay wine pairing. Let s begin with the amuse bouche. I m generally not a fan of fish + sweets (you can see a similar review of mine for Tugra in Istanbul making note of this). One of the amuse bouches (there were two) was a white chocolate snail shell filled with oyster cream. Not great and stuck to my teeth which didn t give it the intended pallets-cleansing experience. The other amuse bouche, a seaweed shell with oyster pearls, was more pleasant. 6/10 The first dish, scallops, were of a mucous consistency. Not very pleasant on the palette. Flavor wise, a bit too briny / salty. Texture was somewhat offset by the seaweed; however, eel cream + scallops that felt like poached eggs was a bit too much for me. 3/10 The star of the show in my opinion was the next dish. The smoked native marron. A delicious mix of marron, gochujang, and sesame seeds. I could have eaten this a la carte and left Quay a 5 star review. 10/10 The abalone and dumpling were fine. Nothing to write home about. 7/10 The next couple of dishes were the most disappointing. I m frankly surprised at a fine dining establishment making such a footfault as drowning wagyu beef in rich sauce. The meat itself is rich enough. The fattiness of the meat and richness of the sauce was far too overwhelming. The wagyu tasted gamey. I was not a fan. The pork jowl was effectively sou vide and covered in fig and pecans. It was ok tasting, but looked like dog food. 3/10 Aside from the marron, the next best dishes were the desserts. The white coral which was a mulberry ice cream topped with flash frozen white chocolate ganache was excellent. The honey bee dessert was one of the best I ve had. 10/10 I also got the Quay wine pairing. That was fantastic. My only gripe was the dessert pairings. I found the botrycised white paired with the white coral pleasant. The fortified gamay paired with the honey bee was too overwhelming. Too much sweetness. I would ve rather the honey bee served with a dry tannic red to offset the creaminess and sweetness of the dish. The service was great except towards the end. It was hard to get the staff s attention once the courses were done to get dessert. Coffee was also not included. Just an FYI. A macchiato was 10AUD. Not a dealbreaker, but if you re paying 1200AUD for a tasting menu and wine pairing, coffee should be complimentary. Additionally, I am accustomed to fine dining establishments leaving guests with a lagniappe (a small gift, usually in the form of a couple of chocolates). None here. Disappointing, but again, not a dealbreaker. Did I enjoy myself? I guess so. Would I ever come back or recommend it to a tourist wishing to indulge in a fine dining experience while in Sydney? Certainly not.
Delicious but we have had equal/better for half the price. No mention of the Sunday surcharge when we booked either. $1200 for lunch. I know the rent must be high but hardly enough to justify being double the price of equally delicious restaurants. Went there for our anniversary. They did add some extra nice touches as a treat but even then the price is extortionate Service was fantastic, couldnt fault it. Once in a lifetime opportunity to go but we have honestly had better elsewhere and the price really took from the whole experience. Instead of reflecting on a delicious lunch, we actually feel a bit cheated Removed a star due to the ridiculously long email I received to tell me that the prices are stated on the menu. I am well aware of that. My point is that lunch there was not worth $1200. I gave 4 stars initially which I felt was fair, especially considering we had MUCH more enjoyable food and experiences elsewhere. Please dont insult your customers by suggesting that they cannot read.
From the moment we stepped into Quay, we were transported into a world of elegance and culinary mastery. The ambiance was impeccable tasteful decor, soft lighting, and a soothing atmosphere that set the stage for an unforgettable evening. The menu was a symphony of innovative dishes, each crafted with precision and a deep respect for the ingredients. One standout was the deer paired with earthy mushrooms a dish that was nothing short of divine. The tender, perfectly cooked venison was complemented by the rich, umami flavors of the mushrooms, creating a harmony of textures and tastes that was both comforting and sophisticated. The attention to flavor, presentation, and creativity was truly remarkable. A special mention must go to Erica, our waiter, who elevated our dining experience to a new level. Erica s warm and genuine demeanor made us feel welcomed and cared for from the start. Her knowledge of the menu was impressive, and her professionalism and charm were matched by her ability to create a personal connection, leaving us feeling like valued guests rather than just customers. We ll certainly be returning.
Hard to describe what happened here but we arrived a few minutes early for our reservation. Seated and began the meal. Everything was fine until about course 3. It took about 35 minutes to arrive. We didnt complain it was obvious there was a large group upstairs from the clanging of the glasses for the toasts. Not a big deal until we could see that the food was delayed and the servers had a look of rush and panic in their eyes. The rhythm was thrown. Servers eyes darting around the room as the dishes were described.Dragging tables to accommodate. We knew the time of our sitting was ending and it had gone over but the food coming out slow was not our fault. Coffee was not offered. Both desserts dropped at the same time. And the check handed to us before we even took a bite of dessert. As we were leaving we could see the sign welcoming a corporate event. Something threw the timing that night and it definitely showed on our end. It wasnt a horrid experience but it definitely stepped on our expectations. There was an issue with normal service and banquet service and the regular customers paid for it. Thats why atmosphere took a hit, we understood the timing its just the food wasnt getting to the table in time to meet that window and it stressed out front of house. They did their best but something was up.
Sublime as always.
Thank you for looking after us and the amazing service. Took my parents for degustation experience for their first time. Whilst there are many great restaurants in Sydney and we are very lucky living in this city. I wanted their first experience of degustation to be different and memorable given it was their wedding anniversary closely followed by my dads birthday. I was concerned whether they would like the food or not. Wow! They loved every single dish. We love our food, so my parents closely inspected each dish and kept complimenting the chef how much effort and thought went behind each dish. It was a beautiful night, and the view was just absolutely mesmerising. Service was top-notch. Thank you, team, for making our night memorable.
Quay is Sydney s crown jewel of fine dining, with an unbeatable view of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge. The moment I entered, I was captivated by the sweeping harbor views and the refined, minimalist decor that lets the scenery speak for itself. Each table is positioned to offer guests an uninterrupted view, creating a setting that s both intimate and grand. Opting for the multi-course tasting menu, I embarked on a culinary journey that was nothing short of spectacular. Chef Peter Gilmore s artistry shines in each dish, which combines innovative techniques with the finest local ingredients. The standout was his signature dish, the Snow Egg dessert, an ethereal and delicate creation that was both a visual and culinary masterpiece. Paired with some of Australia s finest wines, Quay is a must-visit for any gourmet enthusiast in Sydney.
Booked a Wednesday dinner at 6pm for 3 people and six courses to celebrate birthdays for my mum and myself. Got there 20 minutes early. But because their staff were doing team briefing, so we took some photos outside and got back 6pm on time. At the beginning of the first dish, the staff (I think her name is Michelle) was saying they need to clear the table at 8pm. Then she keeps mentioning it through the entire time. We were absolutely not comfortable and not enjoyed because of the rush. At the end, the manager was saying sorry. The rush was because it was a big menu. But as customer, $325 pp to experience this rush is absolutely not acceptable. We were treated like animals so that they can make more money from the next reservation .
Had a great meal for our anniversary, went from having a beer downstairs to luxury restaurant upstairs, perfect meal would definitely recommened and try again
Had the 6 course dinner at Quay today. Superb. Lovely place. Can see Opera House opposite
Private functions great views & food
Wheelchair accessibility: Good access
Amazing dinner! The location and view is Sydney at its best. The food was totally spectacular and service was great. Every dish was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. Would highly recommend.
Absolutely amazing. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable with regards to the food and wine. The food, we could not fault delicious from the 1st dish to the last dish. It was our anniversary and they gave a complimentary chocolate cake. Has been several months since we dined here and still talk about it today. Thank you for a wonderful evening.
It truly was everything I hoped for and more - Thank you
Worth the price.
During my food travels in Sydney I was shocked that the standard of cleanliness of restaurants is exceptional, and far superior to my state of Queensland. I went to a McDonalds that you could have dinned at from the toilet it was that clean. So when I spent over 700$ for dirty toilets it left a bad smell in my nose. The staff service was excellent, the food was kind of boring, lacked flavour, we left hungry because the portions were really small. But the reason I am leaving a bad review is as we were leaving we saw the chefs sitting on the table where food was being prepared.
Iconic view and sensational food, amazing service and atmosphere.
I ate here with my partner for her birthday. I ate the vegetarian menu which was disappointing. Lacked any imagination, thought or flavour and relied too much on mushrooms. The eggplant dish was strange. My partner loved her menu though. Amazing views and great service. So a mixed bag overall. Vegetarian options: They do have a vegetarian menu but it s really not good. Do not recommend.
The price is reasonable for a tourist area and you can directly see the opera house
One of the best meals of my life. Every dish was perfectly balanced and the service was superb. The harbor view was amazing, highly recommend if you re looking for a fine dining experience in Sydney.
We have dined here multiple times over the years as it holds special significance for us: we held our wedding here, a few years back and consider this to be the most consistently excellent and elegant fine-dining experience in Sydney. The food and service are incredible, and you get what you pay for. What some might be interested in knowing, however, is that the food is relatively light on the palate across the board; nothing overly edgy, or flashy, or bold, or unexpected. In this, we do think that one should not expect the avant-garde when dining at the Quay, simply the best preparation of some of the best produce that Australia has to offer, in a comfortable and approachable manner. The overall mood is quiet, sophisticated, and modest, belying the immense effort that is needed to prepare most items on the menu. The presentation is similarly modest, with petite forms, and often floral flourishes. We think the highest care is given to the textural experience every bite is an absolute delight in the mouth. There are some regular dishes to expect at the Quay: seaweed tartlets to start, the poolish crumpets in the middle, and the famous white coral at the end. But the team at the Quay regularly find new ways to interpret these so that they always feel fresh and new, mixed in with a constantly evolving menu that always puts the produce in the spotlight. Were no wine connoisseurs, but the wine list is extensive, and we have enjoyed our wine pairings, with particular fondness for the temperance (non-alcoholic) range (also available in a pairing course). The service is always friendly and attentive the staffs sharpness blunted with warmth and smiles, in a way that lends to a less formal (but not so far as to be considered casual) dining atmosphere, suitable for all groups, ages, or occasions. We find it to be a cosy and unintimidating dining experience, and is a great beginners pick for those who have little experience with fine-dining. Lastly, it offers a spectacular view over the harbour and across to the Opera House.
Gorgeous view of the bridge and the opera house as the sun set. Food was absolutely amazing including a variety of tastes, textures, and smells. Cocktails were great. Truly a unique dining experience with some surprises. Glad we celebrated the end of our trip to Australia here. Can t recommend enough
10 star experience! Food was unbelievable, service was exceptional. We got to sit in the circular glass room with a front row seat to the Sydney opera house and Harbour bridge. We made reservations for this months in advance, so don t expect to get a table last night. This is an expensive dining experience, but not something you get to experience everyday.
an absolute beautiful place to dine
Capybara does not recommend this restaurant. We wanted to use the second floor for taking photos after our meal, but the staff informed us that new customers were about to arrive (even though we hadnt exceeded our dining time or disturbed any other guests, and the second floor was empty). However, after we finished our meal, no new customers arrived, and the restaurant closed shortly after. For a high-star restaurant, good service and attitude are both essential. While we received good service, we were disappointed by the attitude.
Amazing atmosphere and unparalleled views. The food is brilliant - Peter Gilmore really does augment the experience with the senses.
Dining at Quay is nothing short of extraordinary. The stunning view of Sydney Harbour sets the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable culinary experience. The Snow Egg, their signature dessert, is a masterpiece of texture and flavor. The delicate meringue shell encases a creamy center, with a burst of fruit sorbet that perfectly balances sweetness and acidity. The dish is as much a work of art as it is a dessert. Every bite is a revelation, making it a must-try for anyone visiting Sydney
BEST VIEW of Sydney harbour! You get to see both the famous bridge and the opera house. We couldn t stop taking photos. For the menu, we had a no shellfish/ crustaceans one due to dietary requirements: Pickled Japanese turnip black fungi, kohlrabi seaweed, aged vinegar Golden beetroot tapioca, confit egg yolk mustard butter, marigold Confit pig jowl Maitake, hispi sunchokes, salami White Coral We really loved first dish. It was our favourite. We could taste the freshness of the individual ingredients and how they complemented each other. Umami ! The pork, which was the signature dish of the chef, was also memorable. However, we didn t really fancy the beetroot because it tasted rather one note. Also, wished the dessert which featured green apple was more tart.
Absolutely phenomenal and beyond exemplary dining experience. From the moment you enter the Quay, you are in for a special treat. The staff are friendly, the views are second to none and the food is mind blowing.
Best fining ever, great service, noisy neighbours but not the restaurants fault
Is this, perchance, the famed dining place they boast, As Australias finest, above all else to toast? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Amuse-Bouche 1: Seaweed Trio with Squid Ink The first amuse-bouche featured a creative combination of three types of seaweed paired with squid ink. While the dish was promising in terms of presentation and concept, the seaweed flavors were somewhat MUTED. Amuse-Bouche 2: Oyster Cream with Finger Lime and Chocolate The second amuse-bouche was less successful. The oyster cream paired with chocolate unfortunately MISSED the MARK. The freshness of the oyster was overpowered by an unpleasant BRINY TASTE, lacking the expected delicate balance. The combination left a strong, undesirable aftertaste. First Course: Black-edged Abalone, Baby Octopus, and Scallop The first course presented a trio of seafood abalone, baby octopus, and scallop accentuated with aged vinegar and olive oil sauce. The abalone had a decent texture, and the scallop was the standout. However, the baby octopus, like the oyster cream, was dominated by a FISHY TASTE that overshadowed its potential. Second Course: Eel Cream, Sea Cucumber Crackling, Walnut, and Murray Cod Roe This dish demonstrated a high level of creativity, particularly with the eel cream, which was a bold and interesting choice. Unfortunately, the sea cucumber crackling, likely pre-fried, came off as overly greasy. The walnuts, while flavorful, overpowered the dish, masking the subtler elements. Moreover, the third consecutive seafood course contributed to a sense of REPETITION, making the tasting menu feel a bit MONOTONOUS. Third Course: Freshwater Marron, Sea Urchin, and Tapioca Pearl The combination of freshwater marron and sea urchin with tapioca pearls was an interesting concept, but the execution faltered. Some tapioca pearls were UNDERCOOKED, revealing a hard center that detracted from the overall texture. Bread Course: Crumpets and Fried Balls The bread course included crumpets and walnut-shaped fried balls. The crumpets, while good, were not substantial enough and came with an extra charge for additional servings. The fried balls were OVERLY GREASY and heavy, leaving a negative impression and contributing to a sense of incomplete satisfaction. Fourth Course: Bone Marrow Pasta with Mud Crab This dish was a creative highlight of the meal. The pasta, made with bone marrow, was impressively al dente, with a PERFECT bounce and chew. The mud crab provided a rich, savory complement to the pasta, enhancing the dish s complexity. Fifth Course: Pork Neck, Mistake, Squid, Salami with Garum This course was a standout. The pork neck was perfectly tender, complemented by the umami-rich squid and the depth of the spicy salami. The use of garum skillfully tied the flavors together, creating a HARMONIOUS and memorable dish. Sixth Course: Venison, Black Truffle, Brussels Sprouts, and Black Garlic The venison course was the PINNACLE of the tasting menu. The meat was exquisitely cooked, tender, and full of rich, gamey flavor. The black truffle added an earthy, luxurious note, while the Brussels sprouts provided a subtle bitterness that perfectly counterbalanced the richness of the dish. The black garlic tied everything together with its deep, sweet complexity. This dish was a MASTERCLASS in flavor pairing and technique, standing out as the highlight of the meal. Dessert 1: Signature White Coral The SIGNATURE white coral dessert was a visual and culinary delight. The upper layer, crafted from white chocolate, cream, and egg whites, was frozen with liquid nitrogen and shaped into delicate coral formations. Beneath it, the base was a luscious white chocolate mousse paired with coconut cream and a refreshing fruit-flavored ice cream. The combination was both INVENTIVE and SATISFYING, offering a perfect balance of sweetness and texture. Dessert 2: Prunes, Italian Wine, and Panettone Unfortunately, the second dessert did not match the quality of the preceding dishes.
Good very nice vip
Absolutely stunning restaurant with stunning views. Words cannot describe how this restaurant took fine dining to the next level. Wine was delicious and I loved the dessert. Had the best view as well!
Nice view, nice food and the service excellent. The male (I guess manager?) who served us with humor and profession, we enjoy to have meal here.
The quay offers fine dinning with Sydney s most iconic landmarks as a backdrop. As expected the menu is thoughtfully put together and maxed with exceptional service.
Great restaurant, stunning views, fantastic service. The food was interesting.
5 start to atmosphere, absolutely stunning. Food is aligned with fine dinning standard. Busy in peak hours but service is acceptable.
An absolutely sensational experience. My partner and I have been in hospitality for over 16 years and dine at restaurants of this calibre often, but Quay has to be one of the best. Both the food and wine are exceptional on their own, but we would 100% recommend taking up the matching wines as selected by the sommelier Carmelo, as when the wine is paired together with the food both the flavours of the wine and food are amplified. The service provided by all wait & bar staff was impeccable and exceeded our expectations. Huge compliments to all wait, bar & kitchen staff, you are all true industry professionals who provide an absolutely unforgettable experience.
Lovely place with mouth watering dishes
I had an incredible 30th birthday where I was spoilt rotten. The staff were exceptional, the food heavenly and the atmosphere was unlike any other. Thank you to Quay for making this a birthday I will cherish for years to come.
Best restaurant in Sydney. Met our expectations, friendly staff, amazing food
Absolutely stunning. Quay is a Sydney institution, absolutely spectacular location, impeccable service, lfood to die for and Quay wine pairing exceptional and interesting. Food : 5/5
Fantastic location, food and service
Oh, what a night - if I could give more stars I would. The staff went above and beyond to make our night incredibly special, from the moment the door was opened for us on our arrival. It was some of the best service and hospitality I think I have encountered. We loved the food, but it was heightened by the service from the staff. We enjoyed the 8(+) course degustation - the stand out dishes were the abalone, bone marrow pasta, deer, desserts (and the crumpets and truffle butter...I could have taken a pack of those home for later!)....and the holiday milk cocktail was sensational, just like Christmas in a glass!
Exceptional service and great view
Had really high expectations of Quay. While the service and atmosphere were unquestionably to the highest calibre, some of the dishes that came out were a tad disappointing. Two dishes were slightly over salted and one dish, the smoked oxtail was extremely salty!! For the price we paid I really honestly expected each dish to be unmatched in taste, quality and care when put together. We did tell the wait staff who passed on the feedback to the chef, who then gave us a free chocolate dessert which was a nice gesture however in my opinion I d rather go without the free dessert and receive better made food that is meant to be served. Just my two cents which isn t going to make a dent but hoping the chef will listen and learn.
The quality & price doesn t match.
Service was very polite. Food so good. Thankyou to Camillo and Aynsley for such a wonderful evening. Thankyou Camillo Help us take photo of me and my partner.
I dined here on a solo trip and had a wonderful experience. The food tasting menu was amazing and I had a perfect view of the Sydney Opera house. Absolutely delightful
Absolutely the most amazing experience i have ever had the food was incredible and the staff were wonderful can definitely recommend it to anyone thank you so much
The plating and taste were better than expected, so it was personally the most satisfying fine dining experience in Sydney
Quay is undeniably the best restaurant in Sydney! From the warm and welcoming service to the innovative and delicious dishes, it stands out not only in Sydney but across all of Australia. I visited Quay on the day of my graduation ceremony, and it made the special day even more memorable. Every staff member sincerely congratulated me, adding a personal touch to the exceptional experience. Every aspect of the dining experience is meticulously crafted, from the beautifully presented appetizers to the exquisite main courses. The desserts are truly exceptional, with both presentation and taste being top-notch. Quay offers a culinary journey that is unforgettable and unmatched.
went to Quay because ive heard a lot of good things about it. I was slightly disappointed by the menu, but the service was top notch
It was a gift, a dream. If you want to do something good for yourself... Quay Australia. No matter whether lunch or dinner. Fantastic food, fantastically good service.., Simply perfect, we felt very comfortable. The time passed so quickly during the four course meal. Thank you very much for that QUAY TEAM
Took my wife there for our anniversary. Pros: Excellent service. The staff really took care to make you feel special. Superb views! Cons: Portion sizes in my subjective opinion, too small (though taste great!). The ambience was at times a little too loud. We were struggling to hear the story behind each dish. Tip for new customers: hold eye contact, smile and nod. There were about three-odd Chefs Surprise dishes. These surprise dishes also surprised us at final bill... :\\\ Tip to Management: While we understand there is No Free Lunch, please tell us beforehand that this additional dish comes at an additional cost, would you like to proceed? It would be nice to have the option to choose.
Revisited Quay after 6 years, the services we received from ALL staff on the night is one of best in the world. They have allocated a window table with Habour bridge view and I checked with the front desk manager is there an opera house view table available? She has very gently said It s fully booked tonight but she will try to relocate us to a table once it s available. she has organised for us a window table with opera house view to enjoy our last course. Thank you so much for going the extra miles to accommodate our wishes . We ordered 8 courses with pairing of non alcoholic and wine pairing (we have received additional 6 complementary items/courses). Definitely to visit Quay restaurant if you want to experience the world class service, view of Sydney opera house and Habour bridge and quality of food. Shared the photos of the complementary items and tables with Habour bridge and opera house.
Their stuff is really great! If you have the chance, you will definitely go there again! But Ive been there twice . . . Check my Instagram account: observation75
Simply say very good service specially Vannia I ve been there on Sat, with drone show, very crowded, couldnt be there on time. Vannia manage us and we got a great time in there. Very appreciates to Vannia, she made our day. Thanks
I was given a bowl of delicious food(roast chestnuts), invited to try to eat, then admonished when I was successful in doing so. Im confused why I was initially instructed to try to eat them if I should not have succeeded
Went exclusively for the Snow Egg experience for Vivid. Superb view, atmosphere and service.
Had the snow egg during vivid. Can confirm both the dessert and the view were amazing
A must try restaurant at Sydney.

Eating at this Restaurant is an absolute Masterpiece, from a variety of tasty dishes and exotic dishes, this is a must try restaurant. After a restaurant owner Peter Gilmore opened this place 50 years ago, eating at his luxurious restaurant is a absolute memory creating joy, happiness and experiences through the freshness and quality of the ingredients used in his refined delicate dishes created from his recipes made with love and passion, the colour and appearance of the food shows its beauty and unique qualities to flourish on the plate in which the food was placed at a perfect angle for us to indulge in his delightful sensational Aussie cuisine at an unforgettable price. The intricate and thoughtful design giving guests a vivid feeling of the restaurant is absolutely stunning, the colours and textures of this fully detailed atmosphere gives me an immerse unforgettable experience making me want to come back for more to embark on more adventures with this restaurant.
Personally, i dont come here to comment on the price, i think of the food they deliver as the work of art which they hit it perfectly. Indulged in the balanced food with great presentation & great place. Service is excellent.
It s great and one of my favourite fine dining restaurants. Good views, food and absolutely great service.
Title: Disappointing Experience I recently dined at the restaurant and unfortunately, my experience fell short of the fine dining standards set by other renowned establishments in Sydney, such as Aria, Obourzuki, and Crown restaurants. To begin with, the quality of the food did not meet the expectations associated with fine dining. In comparison to other establishments, the portions served felt more like appetizers, leaving me unsatisfied. Furthermore, the overall ambience of the restaurant was a letdown. The excessive noise from other diners and staff conversations created an unpleasant atmosphere, hindering the enjoyment of the meal. The issue was compounded by an echo that seemed to permeate the dining area. Another notable concern was the inconsistent temperature regulation of the seating area. Throughout my meal, I experienced fluctuating temperatures, which detracted from the overall comfort and dining experience. Additionally, despite making a prior booking and requesting seating in the upper levels to enjoy the renowned views of the opera house, the staff refused to accommodate my request. As a result, the expected and advertised views were obscured, adding to my disappointment. I believe its important for restaurant to address these shortcomings to meet the high standards expected from a fine dining establishment. I hope they take these observations into consideration and make the necessary improvements for future patrons.
My partner and I went there to celebrate our anniversary and we ended up leaving hungry and disappointed. I have been to several fine dinning restaurants in sydney and overseas but this is far from fine dinning it s a joke! The portion sizes are extremely small and definitely not worth $300 pp the only good thing about it was the wine. The table we had didn t have a nice view of the opera house and the AC was blowing cold air on and off so we couldnt even take our jackets off during dinner. Never going back again to this place.
very nice
Great atmosphere and location
Absolutely incredible experience. We were lucky enough to dine in the private dining room with unobstructed harbour and opera house views - wow!
We had an amazing experience during our weekend away. The view is amazing, the food was divine and the service perfect. Beautiful selection of champagne from France! Food
The cruise ship blocked the view at the beginning and lasted for an hour. The manger said the ship was leaving soon, and this soon means 30 mins, and they whispered and discussed about we ask about when the cruise ship will leave The food didn t impress me very much . but we are mainly here to enjoy the atmosphere. And also, we have asked if it is possible to change the table, because the view is blocked by balcony railings and window frames. The manager explained that the good seats required reservations six months or even a year in advance. I fully understand the need for advance positioning in order to enjoy a good view. But we are the first batch of guests to come in, and reserved a few days in advance. The things is, they arranged us in a crowded aisle and the view blocked. It is difficult to evaluate the service whether it is good or bad for this restaurant who s with a title, only can say they have A very basic good customer service.
What a beautiful special experience. Worth every cent
Saw other tables start with a green ball shaped snack to start which we were not given. Was asked to pay bill before last course came out Extremely small portions, was left still hungry. Majority of dishes were cream based and for the price expected a lot more. Views are great obviously but at this price point there are much better options and would not recommend Quay.
I can t fault this place perfectly placed foods always on point. Worth every dollar
I have enjoyed dining at many upscale restaurants. I had high expectations for this particular restaurant as well, given its luxurious ambiance, but unfortunately, it fell short in several aspects. Firstly, the live music from the first floor was so loud that it was disturbing and detracted from the dining experience. I requested to be moved to another table, but it took a while before they accommodated my request, and only after I asked again was I finally led to a quieter area. I noticed other groups moving seats after me, which suggests that other customers experienced the same issue. While the food was delicious, the portions did not justify the prices typical of a high-end restaurant. I understand the emphasis on quality over quantity, but it is undeniable that the servings were too small. Additionally, the flavor of the dishes was such that it might not appeal to everyone.
Fabulous service from Isaac & Camillo from the moment we arrived we were looked after so well. Food was amazing with wine pairing high end. Definitely worth a visit to experience a lovely atmosphere.
We came to celebrate our one year anniversary and we had such a wonderful and memorable experience. Everything was perfect, the food, the team and the view. The food was very tasteful, each dish coming with a new, surprising and delicious flavor. They also offer GF and DF options which were really amazing! We also greatly appreciated all the special care from the Quay team. They did everything to make our night special and it was a success. I can speak highly enough of them! A profound and sincere thanks to all of the team and a special thanks to the Chef and his team for the amazing work they are doing!
So good! Best table, great food. Only minor issue with the duck course taking a little while to get to table. Overall great night.
Best restaurant in Sydney.
If you want unbelievable, out-of-this-world kind of food, go to Quay! I actually had a shell in my dish, which at first I was a little shocked by considering its renowned legacy and high standards, however, upon letting them know about it, the staff and chef were very apologetic about it & fixed it straight away. They also offered me their signature dessert, complimentary to express their apologies. Had the most fantastic experience at Quay with perfectly-executed dishes that are crafted so beautifully, distinctive yet refined flavours, and high-quality produce that earned Quay its Three-Hats for decades.
The view is amazing and the staff is very nice. The food and wine pairing were a disappointment at that price point. In many dishes, the more subtle ingredients were overpowered by heavy cream/custard sauces. The paired wines were ok on their own but somehow they consistently made dishes taste worse. It might be better to go by the glass or bottle -- they do have a large wine list and many options by the glass. The design of the round room upstairs is great for views but terrible for noise. The windows and low ceiling made of mirrors echo everything. Its impossible to have a conversation without shouting and the experience is deafening over the course of a 3-hour dinner. It must certainly suck for the staff as well. One last thing to note (which is of course not the restaurants doing): while the view of the opera is fantastic, theres also a chance that a cruise ship will come in, parallel park, and block it
Food: (5/5) Absolutely amazing menu from beautiful ingredients. I would want to give 10 stars if possible. Service: (5/5) Exceptional service Staff were so attentive and knowledgeable for their menu. Each of them were so good at attention to detail Atmosphere: (5/5) One of Sydney s iconic spot with contemporary interior design. You will feel like you have onboarded on a cruise.
Such restaurants which do not even allow a 6 year old kid can go to hell.
We had been to numerous Michelin starred places in Europe and the world and we are sorry to say that Quay is nowhere near them. We had the six-course menu. Indeed, we had high hopes (being widley recognized as the best Australian restaurant), but the dishes were in our humble opinion, inconsistent and the ingredients (although top quality) were simply not connected. The service is great and the view is amazing but the food does not follow. Sorry Quay but if and when we come back to Sydney, we will not visit you again.
I came today to celebrate engagement with my fiancée. Greeted warmly by the hostess and congratulated by all the professional floor staffs. We were also seated at the table with the view of opera house which was fantastic to have. Every dish amazed us. Contrast and synchronicity of each ingredients. Mixture of flavours and textures that was just outstanding. Attention to details to literally everything by the chefs and wait staffs are delivered with excellence. Favourite dish was the Pasture Raised Duck. Honestly, the best dish i ve ever eaten in my life. There was also house crumpets with truffle infused butter which was my fiancée s favourite. Service was top notch. We want to thank especially to Para (i may have misspelled), that s taken care of us for the whole evening. We were also given complimentary Peter Gilmore s signature mudcake which was phenomenal. And also he was waiting for us at the door to give us a little box of chocolate as a treat. Overall, we had an exceptional evening here at The Quay. The place is also quite self explanatory of why it s crowned as Australian Best Restaurant .
Excellent food and service.
Amazing Staff Great Food Cool View
Excellent dinner and wine pairing! Spectacular views and quality of service. Special thanks to our knowledgeable and attentive sommelier Monique. Vegetarian options: Very accomodating to dietary restrictions and vegetarian meals
This restaurant actively discriminated against families with young children. We have been customers for years but will not be returning.
Beautiful experience as always. Great food and amazing service by Ash.
Some of the dishes were fantastic! Was not such a fan of the coral inspired dessert as it was very sweet. The service was immaculate, particularly Ash who was phenomenally good. Thank you for another lovely dining experience.
Its very good rest a urant Very quick service Very affordable Food : 5/5
Stunning view of the Opera House, the service was superb , I certainly liked some of the dishes but not all, over all great experience.
The top on the harbour bay
I visited this place again this year as last year This restaurant always has the best view in Sydney It was a good restaurant that was pleasing to the eyes and mouth Overall, the food portions are smaller, but the friendly staff and great location remain the same
Best degustation menu in Sydney
The reason why I came here was because an officemate of mine told me to celebrate special occasions here. My husband and I celebrated our first big milestone in marriage which is 5 years. They put us in the worst spot in the room right by the bar area. I was a bit unhappy with that but tried to be positive. The food was simple & sophisticated. The duck was my favourite. It was delicious! The eel cream just tasted like cream with no eel. The flavours were too mild. We had complimentary sourdough pancake with truffle butter and the butter definitely needed more salt. Western Star butter was better. Haha That being said, this was the first 6 course meal where I left HUNGRY. Our expectations were high and it fell a bit short for us especially for the price that we paid for. Service was great. We got a free chocolate cake and dessert as well as a nice souvenir with the menu and artisan chocolate. Overall we give this restaurant an 8/10.
Very nice experience, very tasty dishes, a mastered contemporary presentation. Impeccable service, exceptional setting. We will keep great memories
It was quite an enjoyable dinner, but I did not think the wine pairing was worth what they charged. The duck, I felt, fell short of the flavours and textures of the rest of the tasting menu, and at the price I expected to at least leave feeling more full. Compared to Aria, it was somewhat disappointing, especially since Aria is about 30% less costly and I leave Aria feeling full as well as exceptionally well dined. If Quays prices came down by 20-30% then it would be an absolutely exceptional restaurant relative to that, but I dont feel it deserves to charge what they charge. I wouldnt go back due to what I think is a mismatch between the cost and the overall experience (The service is fantastic). But it was still a nice evening and dinner.
We couldnt fault a thing. The food and cocktails were incredible!! The service was beyond expectations - you can really tell the staff know what they are doing. We cant wait to dine here again!
Wonderful lunch at Quay, service was excellent. We had a great view of the harbour despite the dreary weather. Menu highlight: loved the white coral dessert, light and refreshing.
Spent New Years Eve 2023 there recommended if you have the money
what can I say . perfect from the moment we entered until the moment we left Food
Bonkers. This place is bonkers. Amazing food at the highest level you expect and then it performs magic tricks in your mouth. Every dish surprised me. The amazing lobster was the most basic item on the menu. Somehow the water crested almonds took the show in that dish. Iceberg dessert has been updated and even better than before. Views are still there seeing as the location hasn t changed. Service is amazing, each dish came with a story and instructions, amazing staff are attentive but leave you to enjoy the meal. Hands down best restaurant in Australia. Always get the 8 course.
Great dinner experience to celebrate our daughters 16th Birthday! Every item has its own taste and perfectly presented. Dietary restrictions: Halal combination.
We had our wedding here and it was simply perfect. They are the most professional team and the food was immaculate as always. Spectacular views as well!!
Incredible atmosphere and location, there was a lightening storm as we dined so we watched the opera house and bridge light up! The balance of flavours and textures was incredibly well done, couldve had an entire bowl of the bone marrow noodles (the waitress even offered us another bowl, the service from the team was the best we have had in Sydney)
Food was excellent
We came here today for our 26th wedding anniversary and it was one of our best experiences we ve ever had. The food was exceptional and imaginative, the staff were amazing and so knowledgeable about everything. Highly recommended. Thank you for looking after us today and making our day incredible. Clare.
Delicious food and wonderful service. Id say the chef is too enamored with cream, it got a bit too filling. Standouts were the abalone - a little slice of the sea - and the duck which was delicious roasted. View was amazing and food to match.
The most exquisite food, atmosphere and service. Worth every cent to have a beautiful meal with a loved one. Its an experience not just a lunch. Dietary restrictions: Very accommodating for dietary requirements.
The price is so expensive. Two big ones and one small one cost 6,000...
Spectacular harbour bridge and opera house views! The atmosphere was great, food was delicious and service was impeccable. Would recommend to anyone when you are in Sydney.
Magnificent evening with beautiful food, service and stunning views. Such a memorable experience Food
Everyone should be proud of this establishment. The staff, food, and service, were all totally enjoyable. Shout out to the wait staff and sommelier, making it a complete experience.
Came on mothers day, Quay gave our mom a champagne glass to celebrate (made it pretty clear it was free), but then asked if the rest of us would join in without making it clear we would pay. And it was not cheap champagne. Were already paying 374 AUD per person to be there, so we all thought oh how nice of then to give us this extra thing, i guess were already paying a lot. Being hit with 154 AUD extra on the bill for something that was not made clear would cost you never feels good and Id expect better from staff at a place like Quay. Food itself was okay, the desserts were great and unique but the rest wasnt too amazing - overall definitely not worth 374 AUD for the 8 course (and the 6 course likely similar story). Food came out too slowly (we were there for over 3 hours) and portions were unsatisfying. Overhyped, save your money.
Rating: ½ (4.5 stars) I recently dined at Quay Restaurant in Sydney and had a memorable experience. While the food was good, it didnt quite reach the level of excellence I was expecting. The standout aspect of the evening was definitely the exceptional service, which deserves high praise. We opted for the 6-course menu with the Quay pairing wine, and I must say that the wines served were delightful. Each wine was carefully selected and perfectly complemented the dishes. The sommeliers expertise was evident, and it added an extra layer of enjoyment to the overall dining experience. The service provided at Quay was truly outstanding. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and took great care in explaining each dish and its ingredients. Their attention to detail was commendable, ensuring that every guest felt well taken care of throughout the evening. From start to finish, the service was top-notch. One aspect that left me slightly disappointed was the portion sizes. They were incredibly small, even for a fine dining experience. While I understand the focus on quality over quantity, I felt that the portions could have been a bit more substantial to justify the price tag. Nevertheless, the flavors and presentation of the dishes were impressive, showcasing the culinary skills of the chefs. Quay Restaurant is undeniably on the pricier side, considering the portions you receive. However, the exceptional service and the overall dining experience make it worth a visit. If youre looking for a memorable evening with top-notch service and a good selection of wines, Quay Restaurant is a great choice.
Great experience
It is one of the best dining experiences ever. Remarkable degustation dishes beautifully crafted, wonderfully presented and explained. The food was excellent, as was the wine. For a special occasion there are none better than this. In no way cheap, it is still remarkable value.
Too salty too oily. This is the worst restaurant Ive been to in a long, long time. Every dish is either too buttery, salty or oil. Even someone like me that enjoys eating butter by itself cant stand how oily the food is.
Amazing environment and views, where we enjoyed one of the best degustation menus that we have tried in Australia. We chose the 8 course meal and I tried the Sommeliers pairing, which was excellent. The staff were very kind and knowledgeable. We were lucky to enjoy a beautiful view of the Opera, with the light and drone show. I really recommend the experience.
Well you cant beat the location and the food is exquisite if the portions are not exactly.... Hearty!
Love this place
The view here is fantastic. And their steak, OMG Ive never tasted anything like it before. Its meat but just so smooth melts in your mouth. It was just WOW. Food : 5/5
Amazing! Not sure of my fav dish but the White Coral desert with the liquid nitrogen was a surprise!
Price Point - $710 (for 2 people, without drinks) My partner made reservations to celebrate my birthday. Food was delicious and well prepared. Service was great - main waitress was extremely welcoming. Staff were well trained and explained each dish in detail. I enjoyed 7 out of the 8 dishes. Stand out dishes would be the sea harvest, white coral and native marron. Although Peter is the executive chef for both Quay and Bennelong, Quay is by far the superior restaurant. I had a terrible experience at Bennelong (food and service wise). Glad to say Quay was a very pleasant experience. Staff were professional and welcoming, food was delicious and unique as expected for the price point.
Memorable experience with great view, after the cruise ship left, and food that was great and good. Very nice seating area. A lot of what you pay for is the view. The best dishes were the raw seafood, bone marrow noodles, and duck, but every dish is very small. Time between the dishes was sometimes 30 minutes and 6 courses lasted 3.5 hours. Total bill was above $700 for lunch and I honestly left hungry. I think I d rather visit a modern restaurant and buy a really nice dish than go back to Quay.
We enjoyed the 8 course menu with Sommelier wine pairing. The service, atmosphere, view, food, wine and overall experience are unparalleled. Well done and thank you to all the staff, especially Steven and Para.
Very nice
Very impressed
My partner and I have been to most fine dining restaurants in Sydney over the last 12 years. Quay was always the one that we never got around to visiting. We had the pleasure of trying the 6 course degustation last night with the Quay wine package. Dishes were lovely and unique in every way. Main issues with the food were the small portion sizes and cost. Holy cow it is expensive! Service was enthusiastic and well-versed. Staff could not have been more friendly and helpful with questions about the menu. Atmosphere was amazing too - I have never experienced better views of the harbour. My advice would be to dine elsewhere due to the cost and portion sizes. There are a number of high-end restaurants offering amazing food all around the harbour at much lower cost to Quay. I think it will be a one-off experience for us.
A really wonderful dining experience. Obviously the view is amazing, and the food is thoughtful and well presented, and the cocktails are great. The service is good.
Nice experience
All there, great food, great atmosphere, great service.
Firstly five stars for the most amazing waiting staff who were so knowledgeable, about the ingredients & seemed to serve with so much ease & humour. Unfortunately this is where the good review ends, now the food.. for the first time ever I left a restaurant angry & thoroughly annoyed that I believed in this gastronomic Emperors New Clothes! The portions were tiny, 2 or 3 mouthfuls each, great intense flavours & textures but certainly not worth the money I paid, in short, it was an absolute rip off, if this is the pinnacle of Australian Cuisine then I think you are missing the point - customers want to get fed! Everything was served in a bowl & nothing was free standing except the pasta dish, no artistry, skill or panache, I can imagine its difficult getting top Chefs at the moment what with Covid limiting the skill set but if this is the case, do not charge so much. This has most likely been an issue before hence the filler course of crumpet & smoked salmon eggs, yes it was free but I would have preferred more of the original menu items. Talking of filler do we really need to know about the farm & dogs that look after the ducks that was plated before us, answer no, again more food, less waffle. Again the waiting staff were truly fantastic, the wine was perfect, the view lovely but I really came for the food.
Quay Sydney truly lives up to its reputation as a legacy restaurant of Sydney. From the moment you step in, you are immersed in an elegant and sophisticated ambiance that perfectly complements the stunning harbor views. The impeccable service and attention to detail further elevate the dining experience. But what truly sets Quay apart is the exceptional culinary artistry of the dishes. Each plate is a masterpiece, combining unique flavors and textures in a way that delights the palate and leaves a lasting impression. With its commitment to innovation and its celebration of Australian ingredients, Quay Sydney is undoubtedly a culinary icon that continues to impress and inspire, solidifying its place as a legacy in the vibrant food scene of Sydney.
Very good experinece. do recomend
An absolute Elegant , beautiful experience. Something to share with youre beloved.
Amazing food and staff are so kind
All was great. Great staff. Great food Have a fantastic time. Look forward to next visit Food : 5/5
Decent food, not sure if it s worth the price tag tho. A good experience nonetheless.
We had a fantastic experience at Quay. The food was incredible - especially the taste of the sea, the bone broth noodles, the crumpets and the duck. The Somm was incredibly knowledgeable and lovely. Highly recommend!
21 consecutive years of being three hatted in the AGFG for good reasons. Excellent attention to detail with regards to the food and stunning views. Dietary restrictions: Able to accommodate pregnancy dietary considerations well.
The environment is clean, comfortable, and not crowded, and the service is excellent! We had a great view of the opera house from our seats. As for the food, I loved every dish from the appetizers to the main course and desserts! Even though its quite expensive, its definitely a restaurant worth recommending! And lucky us, we got the birthday cake from the restaurant.
Simply amazing 6-course lunch that tantalise your tastebuds which leaves you completely satisfied at the end of your meal. Excellent service crew. Cant wait to return again.
This is the second time to go to the quay. The last time was before the epidemic, many years ago. At that time, I thought the scenery was good, but the food was average, not as good as tetsuya. This year I formed a team with my friends and went to both tetsuya and the quay. This time it was amazing. Every dish was flawless and in line with our taste. It surpassed tetsuya. The desserts should be the most attentive ones we have ever tasted in fine dining. Will try it again if I have the chance.
Have been coming for many years, always the pinnacle of great food !
We were extremely disappointed with our experience at Quay. Had waited for a special occasion to try it out and was not impressed. Had hoped for a culinary experience with some delicious dishes but unfortunately we found the courses bland and underwhelming at that price. Some tasted the same as the one before. Would recommend many other fine dining experiences in Sydney before you spend money here
6 course dinner is really a sampler menu. $300 a head and left hungry . Food ok but trying to be too clever and wasn t incredible.
Been there once and ordered the pasta. The portion of it was tiny and the it tasted unbelievably horrible. Horrible! So I really dont get the hype of this restaurant. Do not waste your money here.
This restaurant was a dining experience like no other. Service impeccable. Food impeccable. View impeccable. If you want to experience fine food, fine wine, look no further! Thank you Quay for making our Wedding Anniversary experience so special. Parking: Use Wilson s parking
The tempo is too slow, it took us more than 3 hours. For a fine dining restaurant, it s a bit too crowded and noisy. The staff tried ways to sell alcohols. 6 courses cost 295$/p fyi.
Service tended to be a little casual but friendly and informative. Overall a truly excellent meal.
Just wow. Fabulous multicourse dinner with incredibly inventive food. Attentive staff with great humor. Really enjoyable. Plus you get to watch the harbor activity. Eat the dessert first.
A nice place for dinner, a good view of the Opera House and cosy ambient atmosphere in restaurant, food above average
Compared to the price, the service and taste were a bit disappointing. I will think of it as the View value. * The urchin in particular has a fishy smell, so it would be nice to use something fresher.
Nice place !!
Highly recommend
Went to Quay on the tail end of a food trip to Sydney, we thought we had already been quite saturated with eating. Yet, Quay still managed to knock it out of the park. The restaurant checked all the boxes - food was outstanding and service was top-notch. The building that Quay is located in is a little dated (part of the overseas passenger terminal), but the restaurant itself had good ambience and great views of both the harbour bridge on one side, and the Sydney Opera House on the other. We were welcomed by a team of hosts and servers who paid great attention to detail. When they noticed us taking photos of the harbour bridge, one of them went the extra mile to show us an even better photo spot that guests would not normally know of. That it was during golden hour only left us with even better pictures to take home with. For the dessert courses, the team also offered us seats facing the Sydney Opera House for a different (and better) view. We took up the offer and were treated to a fireworks display. There is no shortage of fresh and high quality produce in Sydney, yet Quay still made every dish was outstanding and memorable in its own way. The dining experience was elevated by a Temperance pairing that had a mix of juices, teas and wine alternative. We happened to sit near a couple who left prematurely before having any food. They were looking for an ala carte experience, and not a tasting menu. The service staff handled this unexpected circumstance with absolute grace, despite the cancellation fees that would typically apply for no-shows. All in all, a place not to miss for one of the best -- if not the best -- meal in Sydney. It was certainly our best.
One of the most memorable dining experiences I have had by far. The food was amazing but what I really appreciated was the professionalism of the staff and the quality of the service. Would love to go back at some point!
Just simply the best we have in Australia. Extraordinary food and service in the most magical location. We always try to take our overseas visitors here. The food yesterday was sublime. Caviar, Seafood variations, the lobster was unforgettable. The duck was so beautifully balanced. Perfect wine pairings provided with the sommelier selection.
Overall, the food was alright but not filling. I have a higher expectation at this restaurant and came all along from Mel. While I think the view and atmosphere weigh more than the food. My fav dish was the scallop and the crab. Everything else was not surprising. And the highlight point is the coconut dessert and the cocktails display.
Jacob and Issacs services was extraordinary. Both as a team introduced the menu and wines professionally. Well nominated staff and great professionalism. Well done.
Interesting one-off experience as we arent the upperclass, and would say it was worth it. Seeing how the other half lives, its interesting how two slices of duck and and a leaf of cooked lettuce is any different from getting a roasted duck in Eastwood/Cabramatta. Maybe its my peasant tastebuds, but I cannnot tell the difference. I guess the Ivory-tower dwellers would never know because they have never ventured any farther than the golden sands of the East. Nevertheless, the food was delicious and what is expected from this famous restaurant. We chose the six-courses. The menu offered a variety of dishes such as fluffed-up ordinary foods (like homemade crumpets); inspiring combinations (white chocolate, cream cheese and seaweed); high-end ingredients. All of these were beautifully presented. The two of our stomachs were both comfortably full after the experience. However, this means the average person would normally require additional food. The service was wonderful except for one thing. They would always address me with questions and when explaining the dish, rather than my female companion. They even provided us with different menus (one with and without the prices). You would think a modern restaurant would also have modern standards for the 21st century. Apart from that, all the staff were attentive, and accommodating (we were late for 15 minutes), and never forgot the little things (opening doors, dressing her coat when leaving). Side Note: when they offered the complimentary cocktails, we were not given any options except to choose the Aperol Spritz or a mocktail but not a different cocktail. I am unsure if this was a miscommunication or part of the six-courses. The ambience was enjoyable. And the view was pleasant as well. If you are booking for the view, the restaurant/pub below provides the exact same thing but with a different atmosphere.
Good service
Great restaurant, sophisticated cuisine and a lovely view. I highly recommend!
Just Devine!
Thank you Quay for a wonderful evening. I booked the green room, there are 35 people in total, 5 courses. From the main dish to the beef, each is more exquisite than the last, especially the beef, my father ate 2 servings. The planning of the whole wedding dinner is also very humane, organized, and the scene atmosphere is miraculously good. All the guests were impressed by the scenery of Quay. Thank you for Quay s staff!
The view was good, but the taste was (too) disappointing...
This is a world class restaurant, expensive but worth it, and in London or New York you d pay 3 times this. Great views of Sydney Harbour but check whether a ship will be in port blocking the view. The last time we went there was 8 of us, tables seem to have better views if it s 2 to 4 people. Also, we were annoyed at being hit with a $42pp mandatory tip, we weren t told this before ordering, we didn t see it on the menu or web site, though maybe our friend that booked was told when booking but didn t tell the rest of us. So check yourself before going in a group. Apart from that, the service & food is magnificent.
Nice interesting flavours and ingredients, everything was tasty. Service was attentive and plentiful. Glad we chose 6 course menu as 4 wouldn t have been enough for us. Was not a fan of the sommelier wine pairings, expected better wines at that price.
There is a reason Quay is Australias most awarded restaurant. Its spectacular - the food is delicious and inventive, the service is extraordinary, the cocktails are great, just like they have been for 20 years. Fine dining at its best.
Exceptional service and great food
Best tasting menu. We had the 6 course taster, each course was outstanding in every aspect, taste, texture, unusual vegetable and balance of favours.
Very small portion and for the price you pay is way to expensive it s not Monaco . I wouldn t recommend this place as it s over priced and it s a ripoff ripoff tipoff and I will never want to come back near it , very tricky menu and the service is average as usual . The only thing is beautiful is the view beside that I would give it 000000000
Service was phenomenal! The staff was great. However, just because it is a well known high fine dining restaurant with amazing views, don t think you ll be coming here to fulfil the appetite, be prepared to be leaving hungry. Sorry Quay Restaurant. Sadly disappointed, especially with the amount you pay for leaving the restaurant hungry.
Cruise ship blocked the view of the Opera House. The ship was was right next to the restaurant. It would have been nice if we were advised about this beforehand when making the reservation. We would have changed the time of booking to get a better experience. Food was pretty bland and overpowered by cream in nearly every dish. It lacked of variations of flavours. The flavour of main ingredients such as scallops were not presented respectfully due to the very small size and the large amount of cream. Not a good value for money. When two people pay over $600 for a meal, they expect more amount of food.
One of my most memorable and exceptional dining experiences. From the moment we entered the restaurant the service was impeccable, the food exquisite and the view and atmosphere outstanding. So much flavour, such delicate composition that satisfied the eye and the tastebuds with every component of our 8 courses with extras absolutely devine. I will certainly revisit and recommend. Thank you Peter and your team. Dietary restrictions: I had a request that was met easily without fuss and I still felt included and well catered for. I even received a copy of the menu that I experienced which was slightly different to the other guests.
