Wonderful little diner. Good food, good prices, and great (and fast) service.

My boyfriend politely even before ordering food asked if the server could change our table only because ours was really close to the entrance and was getting really cold. I understand that the place was extremely busy but my boyfriend clearly said, once everyone is seated and if you have an empty table, can you please change our place if you could? Only bc it s cold Server rudely said, if you sat in a place already we can t change and that s it. We paid for our coffe and cookie and left.

This was the perfect little place. Great service, good vibe and delicious food!

We were travelling through Thunder Bay and discovered this place and ate dinner here. The food and the staff were so wonderful we came back the next night to eat again!

Had the friendliest server, went before lunch rush and had breakfast sausages were plentiful and tender, eggs as requested at over easy, the rye toast evenly buttered and the coffee was never ending great breakfast menu.

Saw this place recommended as a good poutine place, so we decided to try it out as one of the few restaurants we were able to visit on our short vacation. Unfortunately, we were pretty disappointed. The poutine was pretty solid, and it was a cute place, but our service was not great

Menu is out dated. Food was late at pickup. Till worker was rude and food was sub par. We got the Calgary, minimal sauce, seemed like the bacon was re heated in the microwave and they just unthawed the pre cooked patty.

I felt like I received good value for the money at The Sal. The burger with fries and gravy was tasty. I enjoyed the drink menu on the wall (draaankz, wine not).

The Sal Restaurant has a diner atmosphere of community comfort. Service is personable, friendly and fast. The food is delicious and the portions are healthy. Prices are reasonable. Weekend lunch is very busy. I absolutely recommend The Sal for a down home meal with good friends or family.

This was our first time and enjoyed it. It was a nice hometown atmosphere. The food was very good except I didnt care much for the linked sausage. Id definitely go back though.

Sals is a classic downhome style restaurant thats been added since 1964. Nothing trendy here which is fabulous. Perfect place for a solid traditional breakfast. Everything on my plate was good and cooked perfectly.

Amazing food, always worth it

We had breakfasts and a lunch. They have nicely cooked omelettes, not fancy but tasty. Our friend had the fish and chips which he enjoyed. The chips were a reasonable amount and not too greasy. A good value as well. The place was clean and well cared for too. Thanks!

Wow!! I don t what to say is better- the super friendly staff or the delicious food!! Those bacon jalapeños are food art- I think I found a new favourite! If you haven t been, you gotta go.

It may not wow you at first sight from the street but the food and home cooking friendly service interior atmosphere will not disappoint. Had the burger covered in gravy with a poutine.....what! I love gravy since when is that a crime lol lets just say theirs will keep me coming back for more! Amazing comfort food selections with healthier alternatives if desired you cant go wrong!!

Just an update on our last visit due to an invite. The fish was back to two normal pieces of fish and a good portion of fries. So end result we will will visit again. Good job fixing the deficiencies.

Food was pretty good, asked for corned beef hash with over easy eggs. They came scrambled. I think thats just how they do them there. Still really tasty.

We love eating here... A true Westfort institution(since 1964). The staff are always outstanding, the food is always great and it has a super chill vibe.

The Sal is a great place to go on a date, though it might be a little too small for a large group. The Mexican poutine was amazing and my girlfriend really enjoyed her club sandwich.

My lady and I were on a cross country road trip and were super happy with everything we ate. The sandwiches were super tasty and they even gave us a little slice of turkey breast for our puppy. Great hospitality and very tasty food what more could you want.

Great local restaurant. Some of the best elevated diner food out there. All day breakfast too! Service is excellent. I encourage you to tell your server if its your first time... Wont spoil the surprise, but its worth it!

Food was ok but in my opinion the hamburger nip should include coleslaw with the meal and not have to be purchased separately, no where else have i paid extra for coleslaw.

We are so glad that we found this restaurant! Fish tacos were amazing! Fries and gravy were great, and I could have eaten them until I burst. All of the food at the tables around us looked soooooo good. If we had been staying in Thunder Bay longer, we would have eaten the rest of our meals there. Staff was so kind and personable.

I love you Sal best fish & chips in the whole city, fries, gravy, burgers, always on point. Best place to get a poutine as well. There s something for everyone here. Excellent food, excellent service. They re always super quick. They also have a bogo buy 1 get 1 50% off when it comes to their fish and chips, so maybe this is your sign to get it. (My only little criticism is that I feel the portion of fries they give has gotten smaller compared to a year or so ago, which has been disappointing because they re so good)

The Catfish Special is the Best! Had the cornmeal crusted catfish and it was deep fried to perfection! Crunchy on the outside & tender, flakey on the inside. It comes with a choice of fries, salad or soup. I chose the soup of the day and it was Tomato Basil. Absolutely delicious! Only complaint is I would have loved more lol it was Sooo Good! Sorry no picks as we were too busy enjoying our food. Great place for lunch in Westfort Village.

A good place to get something to eat that was a lot better a couple of years ago, some of the best items on the menu where removed and its just not worth it for me anymore.

By total fluke I ended up here twice this weekend for lunch, and I was blown away each time. Breakfast one day, and lunch the second. Both meals were absolutely delicious, and well portioned. They maintained the classic diner atmosphere but with modern twists, and a creative menu thats not bloated or intimidating. All-day breakfast is a HUGE plus, and theres always hot coffee in the pot too. The breakfast sausages are easily the best I have ever had. I have also tried the wings, and tacos and both were also among the best Ive had. (Which is hard to say about wings, but The Sal nails it). The servers were all nothing but lovely as well. Phenomenal job Aaron and crew. Keep up the great work. Ill sport my Sal hat with gusto.

The Sal offers up delicious diner fare in the heart of Westfort. Be sure to add fries as a side to whatever order because they re some of the best out there.

Go Thunderbay this is truly an iconic place!

What can you even say about The Sal that hasnt been said before. Its a wonderful local diner that really gives you the hometown feel. Great food, awesome staff and a wonderful time to be had almost anytime you show up here.

Decient portion sizes The monte cristo and the burger nip were pretty underwhelming and cold But the Battered Fish and Tartare sauce made up for the loss The fries were quite soggy but we got them replaced Staff was nice and the environment was nicely decorated with local art The BLT was a BLT

A great burger and really good fries and gravy! The Coney sauce on the burger had a hint of cumin or masala spice that really hit and the bun was very soft. The staff were friendly and the Sal has such a good hometown feeling to it that it puts you at ease while you eat. I dont make it out to Westfort much, but the Sal is definitely a reason to visit more

Excellent food and service! The staff here was extremely polite. They offer indoor dining and the patio. Fish n Chips were the best Ive ever had because Id never had such thick Fish n Chips before. Caught write out of Lake Superior. Very big portions as well. Korean Chicken Tacos were also great!

Weve been going here almost every other month. Great food. Great service. Can be busy at times when they have specials so be prepared. Fish and chips are a main dish. Make sure you get extra tartar sauce. I would like to make an amendom to this review. I had the pleasure of the owner in my vehicle as a rideshare driver. He and his friends drunkenly took me for a ride around the bay and when the time came to pay up, they stiffed me on the tip. If I ever go there again no waitress will ever be tipped by me for their service and they can blame their boss for that. Great to be young and entitled. Thanks Arron!

Decent little place. The staff was ok, but for the quality of what you get I find it to be quite expensive. Ive been 3 times since they opened and have yet to be impressed.

I just went for the first time and was completely blown away. The service was fast and friendly. The food was diner food (which I actually love anyway), but at a level of quality that is almost impossible to beat. I am really looking forward to eating there again!

We went for Sunday breakfast. We were delighted with the friendly service and atmosphere. The staff was well aquainted with proper handling of gluten free food (for celiac) and prep. They had gluten free bread available. The food was well prepared and delicious, we really enjoyed the experience
